Alex with Kara/Lena. "Put down that glass before you hurt yourself."

It took maybe a moment too long for the voice to register, for the darkened, hazy figure to resolve into something familiar and distinctly nonthreatening. “Ugh. It’s just you.” Lena lowered the glass, red wine splashing onto the floor, sparkling in the dark. “Do you have to dress exclusively in black and move as quietly as the night itself? Is it a job requirement?”

Alex snorted. “Well. At least I don’t mope around empty corporate reception rooms in evening gowns and brandish wine glasses like a sword.” She sauntered over, the way a secret agent does, and nudged Lena’s leg with her knee. “Scooch over. Why don’t you brood in your cushy little office with all your crystal goblets and shit?”

Lena scoffed. “I brood in my office all the damn time. That’s precisely why it smells like misery in there.”

“Shit, Luthor. Has anyone ever told you you’re a big fucking drama queen?” Alex said, with barely any feeling. Then, voice lowered: “Kara’s out of the woods.” She swallowed audibly, fiddling with something jingly and metallic. “For certain, this time. One hundred percent. I promise.” 

Lena put the glass down, shaky enough to spill wine over herself, and let her face drop into her hands. “Fuck,” she muttered. There was shuffling beside her, then silence. A slightly overlong moment later, Alex put her arm around her. Another beat, and a head dropped onto Lena’s shoulder. And finally, Lena could breathe.

No doubt episode time constraints were a consideration, but the fact that Supergirl went straight to Lilian - and not to Lena first - for info on the Graves siblings, seemed to me a (sad) sign of how palpable the distance between Lena and SG still is. And also: LILIAN!!!! *incoherent screaming*

It didn’t feel like a time constraint. It was DEFINITELY a symptom of the tension between them (and yes, by god is it palpable). And also maybe Kara not wanting to consider that Lena could be as familiar with the shadier dealings of the old LuthorCorp as Lillian.

The Graves would have been part of the Luthor business dealings back when Lena probably still worked with Jack on the nanotech. What would Kara have thought if Lena DID prove to know just as much as her mother? Would she have assumed the worst (just like she did last season) and only deepened the rift?

Fancast for Lena's birth mother? In case we ever get lucky enough to see her (either in flashbacks or in present day if they pull an Alura kind of scenario). Brenda, you're our only hope!

I’m not good at these things, but I remember seeing someone proposing Maria Doyle Kennedy some time ago, and although I’ve seen her only in Orphan Black (that I remember) I find her a very apt choice if they go for the present day road.

Also I think that with her, no matter what characterization she will be given,  they could give that character enough nuance to both contrast her with Lillian (Lionel’s “infidelity choice” included), and “explain“ some of Lena’s less Luthorlike qualities.

kara gets drunk. she really, really doesn’t mean to. she also doesn’t mean to get into a fight - or accidentally knock the other guy out. unfortunately, the policeman who handcuffs her doesn’t really care.

she calls alex to pick her up, but alex can’t make it; she’s tied up at work. her solution? she sends lena, the new intern.

“so you work with alex,” kara tries, if only to break the tension of the awkward drive back. “are you also a music producer?”

“i’m the intern,” lena says politely. “but that’s my hope, someday.”

for as strained as alex and kara’s relationship is right now - since kara is between jobs, and alex is begging her not to follow her in her footsteps - they’re trying. part of this means kara brings by lunch, sometimes, and by extension she brings food for lena.

lena doesn’t have the heart to tell her she’s not really a fan of greasy takeout, but alex knows. “you don’t have to humor my sister for my sake, you know,” alex tells her skeptically. “i don’t care how you two get along.”

“it’s not for your sake, exactly,” lena says, and the way her cheeks flush pink makes alex roll her eyes when she realizes what lena’s getting at.

kara keeps coming by the studio, flirting without meaning to, until finally  alex can’t take it any longer.

“can you please just ask lena out?” she demands, loud enough it draws a few stares. “you are really messing with our productivity.”

kara turns red, and lena protests something as alex walks away, but it’s not like it matters - alex finds them making out in one of the recording studios later that day anyway.

“this is a professional work setting!” she shouts through the intercom.

“alex!”

I loved your tags on the post with Katie’s answer about Lena and James. I’ve struggled to articulate it so succinctly and well, thank you! We’re a quieter bunch, but we’re here. 😁

Thanks, friend! I really appreciate you taking the time say this. My attachment to a show always stems from the characters first, so while I may ship one thing more than another, I am always supportive of any relationship that is healthy for the characters and makes them happy. I definitely think that (no matter the behind the scenes reasons why it came to be, because that’s a different conversation altogether) the James and Lena coupling meets that criteria. It’s something I feel very strongly about, but I’m well aware that it’s a very unpopular opinion in this fandom, so I’m glad to know that there are more of us out there.

Lena turned the corner to enter the DEO lab and almost dropped her cup of coffee.

Querl Dox was kissing Supergirl.

Even though Lena knew full well that he was dating Kara.

“What the hell is going on in here?”

Both Querl and Supergirl froze. “Lena,” Supergirl said tentatively. “I, uh…”

“I thought you were both better than this,” Lena said. She jabbed a finger in Querl’s direction, who took a quick step back with wide eyes. “Querl, Kara loves you. How could you cheat on her?”

“I would never cheat on Kara!” Querl protested.

“Oh really? Then how do you explain this?”

“I’m not sure what you want me to explain,” Querl replied. “Kara and I were just waiting-”

Supergirl frantically put a hand over Querl’s mouth. “Look, Lena, what he means is-”

“Oh my god,” Lena said, suddenly staring at Supergirl. If she were wearing glasses and had her hair up…

“Oh my god. You’re Kara. Kara is Supergirl. Oh my god.”

Supergirl - Kara - sighed and removed her hand from Querl’s mouth. “Nice going, Brainy.”

“I apologize,” Querl said, looking embarrassed. “I keep forgetting that you still use secret identities in the twenty-first century.”

“You’re Kara,” Lena said again, gaping at Supergirl.

Supergirl and Querl looked at each other helplessly. “Hey,” Supergirl finally said, shrugging a bit, “at least my boyfriend isn’t cheating on me?”

Okay, five things I like about myself:

1. Easily the first thing I like about myself are the people I choose to keep in my life. I think after 34 years, I have managed to keep a pretty rad bunch of people around me

2. My optimism and faith are things I’ve worked really hard to maintain. It isn’t easy because life can be difficult and rough and so full of things that test your very character. And I can’t control any of that. I can’t control anything that life throws at me but I sure can control how I see them and what I do with them. And I like that I’ve learned to be able to look for the brighter side of things.

3. My desire to make people happy/smile/laugh just so they can feel a little joy, whether it’s for a few seconds or longer. I don’t know if it’s from the way I was raised but a little distance has taught me that when there are no ways to see the brighter side of things, I might as well try to be one of those brighter things, y'know? Nowadays it tends to be via my writing fluff which is quite awesome

4. My spite. Which I know probably is a little weird after the last two things I listed but my spite is also what fuels me to choose optimism, to choose kindness and compassion over anger and hurt (trust me, a lot of shit went down in those developing years of Az lol).

5. My absolute thirst for learning. I have a goal to learn at least one new thing everyday. Today’s only just started so I’m very excited to find out what I’ll learn today, :)

Honestly, I wouldn’t have noticed anything obvious if it weren’t for the gifs lol. I think all the stuff that they want us to be suspicious of has not been done in a subtle way..? And the show have a tendency to tell instead of show for things that are not obvious. So something like ‘she knows!’ would be a big thing that they would absolutely milk and tease about especially since Lena is the only one who doesn’t know at this point.

But I do think that she is starting to wonder about Kara. The way she said ‘using my personal relationships against me’ seems like there’s a seed of doubt planted already, ’If she got to James, what about Kara who is even closer to her?’ (coffee buddies, heh).

It’s more likely just Katie injecting her own nuance into the situation though. Someone should ask her in the upcoming cons!

Dear future me by Kara?

Send me one “Dear—” and I’ll write a letter to this person 

I wanted to try doing this a bit differently. I hope you guys enjoy it ^^

Kara grabs the notepad she carries around for work from her bag, and sits down at her dinning room table. She feels stiff and out of place, like what she’s about to do feels foreign to her. With a small sigh, she starts writing a letter in kryptonian

         It’s not often that I write for myself anymore. I remember, when I had just arrived on Earth, writing down in Kryptonian how scared and lonely I felt, but having to hide it so the Danvers wouldn’t get upset at me. But...with time, I stopped doing that...

         Now I’m back where I started.

         I’ve become a hero to the people of Earth, my friends tell me that I give the citizens of my new planet hope. I think my parents would be proud of me. But since I came out of the shadows, so much has happened; I feel almost as lost as I did when I first arrived here...

         I know it must look senseless to write a letter to one’s future self when you’re feeling down, but...

Kara gives herself a small, barely-there smile, and continues to scribble.

         ...but if future-me is reading this right now, it means that I got through this confusing, and scary moment of my life.

         So to you, future-self, I say this: I’m happy you are where you are. And if, like me, you’re also at a tough spot in life, remember everything we’ve been through to get to this point. Remember all the amazing people you love, and who love you in return; the people who are in your corner no matter what. 

You’re not alone. 

You can do this.
