Been a while since my last plant update apparently, everyones growing and adjusted to my apartment! We'll see how the cephalotus is doing in a year but letting a shallow tray dry for 2-3 days at a time seems to be working out

well i took a crack at repotting the lettuce herself. id say it went pretty well! look at the big healthy roots (you can even see where they were just about to start growing out of the holes in the pot), and its already spreading out in the pot. god i havent posted pictures of it in a while but it got Really big.
the OTHER thing that happened today is. well you see what had happened was after i repotted it my mom thought we needed to do something relaxing and fun right. so we went to a plant store. and uhmmm.
okay so this is an N. ampullaria . im going to be so real we were about to leave and as i turned around to go i saw it under a shelf and the GASP i let out! its in not great shape, had some dead leaves and the pitchers are pretty clearly on their way out though not dead already, its quite floppy and clearly needs water. was ALSO in just regular goddamn soil, like the last one i got from that nursery (moe! in april! can you believe?)
but i depotted and it had these beautiful healthy roots you can see--all of that black mass is just roots, theres no soil left and just a little moss around the root ball. i cleaned it up, cutting off everything dead, and put it in nice sphagnum/perlite. heres the final product:
and a pitcher glamor shot (though theyre not very glamorous atm):
i had to put the hanging wires on the new pot because its a little top heavy, so theyre just temporarily holding it upright until i can make a moss pole (which i already needed to do to move moe out of the hanging basket for the same reason). this is really temporary--even for the babies, since theyre kinda crowded and will need to be spaced out some--because i need to find a different tray i can put it in too, but for now its a good setup. its sitting on a nice little stand i have where it should be getting enough humidity, plenty of sun during the day, and i gave it the water it desperately needed too.
fingers crossed it doenst go into shock too badly! this is far and away the worst condition a plants been when i took it home but i am confident this is fixable, especially with how good it looks now--it was at most a little beat up and thirsty, which i SHOULD have fixed. i hope. well see.
#plants tag#myposts#s purpurea venosa#sarracenia purpurea#sarracenia purpurea venosa#n ampullaria#nepenthes ampullaria#actually i should mention that while i doubt it it IS possible this is a hybrid though it really just looks like a pure species

My little N. ventricosa has been doing so well I got brave and ordered some more carnivores! The paler nepenthes is closely related to ventracosa and the spotty one is a ventracosa hybrid, so I’m hoping they’ll do just as well. The fly trap and purple pitcher plant will be my first try doing winter dormancy. Fingers crossed!
Species in image descriptions!
#Noodling and outdoor bog garden with natives but it’s such a can of wormssssss.#How big does a raised bed need to be to insulate through the occasional polar vortex we’ve been getting?#Will putting it in an old metal bathtub make it freeze harder? Will the soil need to be changed out every few years???#I just want a mess of northern purple pitchers and bog cotton. And maybe some of the lil native sundews. But this venosa is tiding me over.#carnivorous plants#indoor plants#house plants#plantblr#venus flytrap#pitcher plants#nepenthes#Sarracenia#Look at all my new wards they’re so cute :3

The true story of what happened to Tubbo Beloved and Tommy Innit.
by Little_T_T_devil
Rumors said that 7 years ago, two boys went missing. One was said to be like a beach, golden blond hair mixed with deep blue eyes was something everyone in the orphanage could only dream of having one day. It was said that his personality was like the sun, bright and happy. There were many words that could describe the boy, but there was one in particular that made the most sense. Selcoth. Unfamiliar, rare, strange, and yet marvellous. The other boy was said to look like the forest that is now his home. Deep brown hair and deep brown eyes was a combination that no one in the whole orphanage wanted. People said that his personality was like the moon, shy and unhappy. He was like the opposite to the other boy. When in fact, the two boys were more alike than anyone could have ever thought. The boy's personality was actually more like the sun, similar to his friends. Like the other little boy there were many words that could describe the boy, horrible, monstrous, scary, but there was only one word that could describe this sweet little boy. Nepenthe. Something that can make you forget grief or suffering.

Buy Carnivorous Plants Online: A Fascinating World of Nature's Predators
For nature enthusiasts and gardening aficionados, carnivorous plants represent a captivating and unique addition to their collection. These remarkable plants have evolved to catch and digest insects and other small prey as a source of nutrients. Buying carnivorous plants online offers an accessible and convenient way to explore the intriguing world of these botanical predators. In this article, we will delve into the diverse and exotic realm of carnivorous plants, as well as guide you on how to buy and care for them online.
The Fascination of Carnivorous Plants
Carnivorous plants have long captured the imaginations of plant enthusiasts and scientists alike. Their evolutionary adaptations to nutrient-poor habitats have resulted in a wide variety of ingenious trapping mechanisms. Some of the most famous carnivorous plants include:
Venus Flytrap (Dionaea muscipula): This iconic plant, native to the Carolinas in the United States, features hinged leaves with sensitive trigger hairs. When an insect lands on the leaves and triggers the hairs, the leaves snap shut, trapping the prey.
Pitcher Plants (Sarracenia): These North American natives have tall, tube-shaped leaves filled with liquid. Insects are lured into the pitcher by the plant's enticing colors and nectar. Once inside, they become trapped and eventually digested by the plant's enzymes.
Sundews (Drosera): Sundews are known for their sticky, glandular tentacles that secrete a sweet and viscous substance. When an insect lands on a sundew leaf, it becomes ensnared in the sticky liquid, and the plant's enzymes break down the prey.
Nepenthes: Also known as tropical pitcher plants, Nepenthes species have unique pitcher-shaped leaves that hang from tendrils. Insects are attracted to the sweet-smelling nectar on the rim of the pitcher and fall into the fluid-filled trap, where they meet their fate.
Buying Carnivorous Plants Online
Purchasing carnivorous plants online has become increasingly popular due to the convenience and access to a wide variety of species and cultivars. Here's a step-by-step guide to buying carnivorous plants online:
Select a Reputable Online Retailer: Start by researching reputable online nurseries or retailers that specialize in carnivorous plants. Look for reviews, customer testimonials, and information about their plant sourcing and care practices.
Explore the Selection: Browse through the online catalog to explore the diverse range of carnivorous plants available. You'll find various species, sizes, and even hybrids to choose from. Take your time to discover the plants that capture your interest.
Check Availability: Carnivorous plants may have specific growing requirements, so check the availability of the species you desire, considering factors such as climate and care conditions.
Read Descriptions: Pay close attention to plant descriptions, including size, growth habits, and care instructions. This will help you select plants that align with your gardening skills and environment.
Review Care Guides: Reputable online retailers often provide care guides or resources to help you understand the specific needs of carnivorous plants. Familiarize yourself with these guides to ensure proper care once your plants arrive.
Consider Accessories: Some online retailers offer accessories like appropriate potting media, containers, or terrariums tailored to carnivorous plants. These accessories can make it easier to provide the right environment for your new acquisitions.
Place Your Order: Once you've made your selections, proceed to the checkout and complete your purchase. Ensure that you provide accurate shipping information for a smooth delivery process.
Shipping and Arrival: Carnivorous plants are typically shipped with care, often in a dormant or semi-dormant state. Follow the retailer's guidelines for acclimating your plants to their new environment and potting them if necessary.
Caring for Carnivorous Plants
Caring for carnivorous plants can be a rewarding experience, but it does require attention to detail and a commitment to meeting their unique needs. Here are some general care tips for carnivorous plants:
Light: Most carnivorous plants require bright, indirect sunlight. Place them near a south-facing window or provide artificial light if necessary.
Water: Use distilled water, rainwater, or purified water with low mineral content to avoid harming the plants. Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.
Humidity: Carnivorous plants thrive in high humidity. You can increase humidity by placing a tray of water near the plants or by using a terrarium.
Soil: Use a well-draining, acidic potting mix specifically designed for carnivorous plants. Avoid regular potting soil, as it contains minerals that can harm them.
Feeding: While carnivorous plants can capture insects on their own, they may benefit from occasional feeding with small, live insects like fruit flies or gnats. Be mindful not to overfeed.

hihihi me again whats your favorite dinosaur? whats your favorite flower? favorite bear? favorite BIRD? do you play sports? do you play video games (besides tf2?) whats your favorite video game? whats your favorite cologne? whats your favorite outfit? do you have any piercings? do you have tattoos? what do you wear to bed?
Hello again!
What's your favourite dinosaur?
Not really a dinosaur, but Megalania. Favourite dinosaur would be Utahraptor. I would say Maip macrothorax but we don't know if they had feathers (unlikely at their size) and I love the idea of a giant feathered raptor because that's bloody terrifying.
What's your favourite flower?
Favourite plant is anything in the genus Nepenthes or Drosera. Favourite flower is anything in Passiflora but specifically Passiflora incarnata.
I also love Bauhinia yunnanensis!
I just think they're neat. :]
What's your favourite bear?
Nanulak bears. They're polar-brown bear hybrids. They're really neat looking.
What's your favourite bird?
This one's going to be hard to answer. For raptors it's a tie between the harpy eagle and barn owls. For ratites, as much as I love emus (having one), I'd have to say the southern cassowary because they're awesome and can kill me. That's not a bird, that's a bloody dinosaur. Favourite water bird is probably swans because I wouldn't want to fight a swan, it'd kick my arse.
Do you play sport?
As a nipper I played soccer. I hated it. I've played baseball, loved it. I played volleyball for a few years but baseball is where it's at. (If you ask me it's less confusing than cricket but don't tell anyone I said that because I'll get my Aussie card revoked.) I'm not agile enough for rugby and footy unfortunately.
Do you play video games (besides TF2) and if so what's your favourite video game?
I don't play much anymore. I have a Switch Lite that I play Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley on but I don't even know where that is. I used to do pixel art in Minecraft. Back in the day as a teen I played a lot of World of Warcraft. I mean an obsessive amount. Might've been a little addicted. I also played a fuckton of Halo. My favourite Halo game is Reach. NOBLE deserved better! My favourite video game of all time is Red Dead Redemption 2. I fucking cried at the horse scene. Any of you what've played the game know exactly what scene I'm talking about and you say you didn't cry I don't bloody believe you.
What's your favourite cologne?
This. I'd never use anything else.
What's your favourite outfit?
My usual work clothes? Which is also my typical everyday outfit. Brown pair of daks or jeans, blue or red flannie, leather vest (keeps the sun off and gives me places to store things), kangaroo leather belt, dingo boots (what Americans call cowboy boots), my hat, watch, sunnies (actually shooting glasses but shut up). If I'm using a bow I wear a glove on my right hand so the fletching on the arrow doesn't scratch my hands (it feels like a thousand paper cuts at the end of the day). Also knives. I wear a lot of knives. Belt, belt, boot, vest, machete on my back if you count that.
I also own a single suit which I look dapper in if I do say so myself. It's grey, so it fits any occasion. Birthdays, formal business, funerals, court.
Do you have any piercings?
Mum had my ears pierced as a baby and my dad spit the dummy over it. I was a bub so I didn't remember it. What sucked was piercing my septum. It's an Aborigine thing. The septum hurt like a fucking cunt. Also it got infected (cheers Jack you bastard) so we had to take out the piercing which meant the hole just ended up healing shut so I did that for nothing. That and he shoved wattle up my nose which was a funny experience up until I sneezed and let me tell you, sneezing with a fresh septum piercing it like shoving a branding iron up your nose.
Do you have any tattoos?
No, but I'm looking to get some! I want to get a crocodile on my left arm and a kookaburra on the inside of my left wrist (and maybe a hidden koala somewhere).
What do you wear to bed?
Singlet (wifebeater for you Americans) and trackie-daks (sweatpants also for you Americans). Grey trackie-dak nation. They make me sweat but they're comfortable. On summer nights in Kakadu I sleep in the nuddy because it's too fucking hot and humid for clothes.

alright i got a few days of big updates so we’re going quick quick quick
i switched out the trays lettuce and the new ampullaria were using and since then have added more marbles in the ampullarias tray
also i pruned back the dead pitchers which were starting to shrivel so yeah nothing good there + the dying leaves on the bottom. theoretically i didn’t HAVE to do that and for nepenthes it’s generally recommended to keep leaves on until they’re defo dead but i’m a little impatient PLUSSSS it’s got a new leaf coming so i want to maximize the resources going to that if possible. + new view of the babies on it!
also i got a bigger humidifier which is super great news! the little one is good but it primarily gives attention to the smallest neps and i wanna make sure moe and the ampullaria are taken care of especially since they’re both in somewhat fragile states w the ampullaria recovering and being recently repotted and now putting out all kinds of basal babies.
alsooooo i started using my artificial lights! the plan for now is to supplement 3 hours a day right at sunset and uhhh hope that’s good. i move lettuce out of there when they’re on so it still gets the decreased photoperiod for dormancy.
i still have yet to make moss poles to be able to move moe out of it’s hanging pot but honestly now i’m questioning if i have the space especially cause uhh
i got home from apple picking and my mom had bought me another sarracenia?????? its so gorgeous it’s some kind of leucophylla hybrid of unknown providence (possibly unique!) which is super fun PLUS it looks like there’s some sundews (routindifolia! i’ve been wanting to get my hands on these for a while i’ve had sundews before and they’re SO lovely) and something else? i think they MIGHT be utricularia (aka bladderworts, another bog carnivore) although i’m really not sure cause they’re tiny and don’t really match the pictures and i’ve never actually seen one in person before so IDK but this is really cool and exciting!!!
i have one single worry which is that there’s some spots on these pitchers but i suspect it may be a temperature/dormancy thing but idk. will keep an eye on for sure!

Nepenthes veitchii (bario) x mirabilis 'Viking'
Still a little baby but this is the biggest pitcher I've gotten out of all of them.
I have some grown from seed, but this one was bought from someone on Carousell; I got the plant and then realised it's literally the same hybrid I already had seeds of. <- idiot
