Why does this bracket look like that? Hey, y'all are the ones who didn't submit a perfectly round number. Look upon my beautiful monstrosity and despair.

Okay, but more seriously I wanted to organize by fandom, to better account for what's obscure *within* the fandom versus to people who've never even heard of the media in question.

There will be 8 polls coming out every day, starting tomorrow, each with a 1 day vote. Polls will be tagged with #obscure fancomic poll and #fancomic round 1 (then 2 then…you know the drill.)

sad to say but sometimes i am a hater (and in this post the thing i am a hater of is specifically the neo diamond cutters in da idw comic of sonic)

now i dont MIND them as a team and i was hyped at first! but thats kinda. decayed. under the readmore are my thoughts on them (long & rambly)

theres a few reasons to it: the visual designs next to each other, the team dynamics, the way tangle is treated in those dynamics, the reason the team even formed, the way they had tangle take the diamond cutters name so insensitively… i really *don’t* like them as they are that much, although i still dont ‘hate’ the team as a concept

visual designs: their color schemes overlap so much and not necessarily in a good way. every color used on one is used on the others in some form, which kinda blends them together instead of building separate identity. looking at other 3-man sonic teams highlights this: not just sonic tails knuckles being distinct primary colors, but even team dark that overlaps in black and reds is still distinct thru shadow and omega’s body shapes, rouge having pink instead of red, AND having different concentrations of each color. the neo diamond cutters/NDC have two majority white characters, both of whom wear yellows and browns and warm tones, and then one character who is yellow and brown and warm and wears cold gray tones. their shapes do stand out with tangle’s stripes and tail, lanolin’s puffs, and whisper’s angles, but still all the white is super same-y (and it gets worse when silver teams up with them). and the character designs aren’t bad on their own - but they’d work so much better together to be tweaked imo, maybe by working more purple into tangle’s design with her eyes (which is a color neither of the others use), and finding a way to give whisper a bit more of a peppy outfit (her extreme gear fit works SO well for this, the blue is cute on her and works great with the gold in a different way than it works with tangle’s white and purple with gold), and then lanolin can kinda stay the dusty down-to-earth tones, maybe work in green somewhere..

then my next point….. why does tangle stay with them i know the reason they gave her is she wants to stick close to whisper, but why is she back in a team with authority over her and responsibility and specific missions? isn’t that why she left the restoration - besides to be free to go find whisper, to be able to go where she wants and be helpful where she feels she’s needed? i can’t see tangle being content with this setup for very long, especially as it is where lanolin is clearly like their commander/boss. seeing that scene with lanolin slapping the paddleball out of tangle’s hand instead of asking her to stop - based on what they show in the comic, lanolin went right to smacking around instead of communicating, and based on what tangle says, didn’t even communicate to tangle that she wanted her to stop. tangle, who HAS been shown to be fairly good at self-correcting and staying within boundaries with whisper. it’s sure not the only part of their dynamic but the fact it was there is, man,, additionally tangle herself is getting slandered this arc, particularly by recharacterizing her as a rookie who hadn’t done any fighting until sonic showed up - issue 4, tangle’s introduction, explicitly contradicts this by showing tangle already easily handling badniks before sonic and her even first see one another!!!

for the purpose of this NDC team layout where lanolin and whisper are Good At Things and tangle is the rookie who needs their training and doesn’t even know how to fight, they’re scratching out the parts of tangle that made her so cool and fun! and it’s so frustrating seeing the character i like being written so wrong, i want to make a separate analysis post just for how recent issues contradict or build friction with recent tangle vs how she was in earlier issues.

additionally, if whisper’s trying to move on from her past and the diamond cutters, the better way to show that narratively isn’t by forcing whisper into another team, it’s letting her function outside a team, with her friends - the way tangle does. so instead pushing tangle into whisper’s box having a team, it grates all that down into ‘but what if they were secret agents sorta’. (oh, and all had wisps except tangle. is she allergic to wisps or something, or are they trying not to give tangle anything else special because she has her tail, despite whisper having *5* wisps not being too many?)

i guess i dont really have a conclusion besides ‘i hope tangle realizes she isnt having a good time here and that adhering to the standards other people hold for her instead of playing to her own strengths is holding her back and goes and spends time with literally anyone besides whisper and lanolin’, but i really wish this team hadn’t started at all, or at least ended up as a one-off instead of a recurring unit that isolates each member from anyone else in the comic unless they join the team. it pulls tangle and whisper away from potentially more interesting situations and interactions with other characters and pushes them into a structure, even ignoring what the writers had to break (ie tangle) in order to force them into that structure. and tangle clearly came out the worst among the three of them, but i think they all kinda hurt for it.

and hey, if you disagree- well first, why did you read all this if you knew i was just gonna be hating on the thing you like?- you’re free to share your standpoints! i’m not committed to thinking of NDC as Bad and Awful, but the things done with them have made the comic less enjoyable to me, so i’m not inclined to like the team very much. and i don’t dislike the characters themselves, just this specific way they’re stuck together. even lanolin, my least favorite, still has good points but is kinda kept in her ‘unlikable’ state by being stressed and put supervising the other two when she doesnt like it.

"Hyper-Space - The Simulation of Servitude & the Architecture of the Mega-Machine: 'The 'Human' & his Guide or The Jornery through the Nine Circuits of the Divine-Fractal-Zones know as: Hell"

(a continuous working draft).

Fractal realities issue out of pre-rendered holographic sockets - digital orifices spewing hyber-cyber frequencies that rapidly enmesh, our Human's flesh with hair-fine liquid like razor wire that cuts into our Human's anatomy followed by a sudden pull that starts a sucking vacuum with the strength of dozen sonic booms as he just comically disappears into what would almost amount to an eye of an needle - siphoned through a split atom sized hole (or so it seemed) within nought of nano second, sqeezing him out finally from the jelly-wet and npe doubled dilated hole - as an infinite explosion of malignant echo's cast ripples of neon rainbows that flood his pores with its atomic waste, skin peeling radiation the works.

Our Human's now in -- hyper speed - fast -- for-warding in some manically mind bending metamorphosis of matter, flesh - bone, from the bottom up to tip of his cranium - as ripping sound seems to reproduces his anatomy in a ultra smooth pale yellow plastic returning him to the manikin man he wasn't. His mouth now a perfect O, his eyes: two Obsidian black pearls sucked into place.

Our Human since sucked and spat out now stands rigid in the center of square cell - four walls, ceiling and floor, all glistening with mother of pearl, his toes then his entire feet start sprouting fine fissures of gold (enrooting) circuit lines slowly branching outwards across the floor in multiple channels which had rapidly root him to the spot (before he had even attempted to move a foot) until entire floor is a perfectly engrave in the finely threaded gold circuitry system.

Hyper--speed -- each four corners of the room fracture out in hyperbolic-geometrical-fractal fissures - suddenly shoot outwards in all directions until the entire four walls are engraved in a cybernetic virus. it's once golden circuitrty is now breaking out in a spontaneous blooming of some kind of sick binary bacteria fugue its glows phosphorus: cybernetic cancerous growths.

It starts circuitrty channels start issuing out from his toenails before inverting into our Human's legs up until his anatomy is entirely enmeshed -- then within a nano second and the all but last empty vacuums of space within cell are filled with via fractals of intricately arranged geometrical lines of fine liquid diamond razor wire bites into his flesh causing four seconds of indescribable pain until they pass through entirely finally -- suddenly his mouth piece begins issuing a semi-translucent klidoscopic light filling the last of any remaining space causing a pin prick black hole in the bottom corner of the cell which then in a nano dilutes suddenly sucking at him and the fractal room into its seemingly gaping black oblivion until he emerges breaking through a pink plasm film until he emerges screaming into what was once - Mexico now - Neo-XiKo, and the year - 2510 now a vast wastelands with clusters of chemical labs grinding mutanted strains of the rotting meat of native tribesmens rotting corpses mashed together with malign vines waiting to be processed in the gas chambers. Torture chambers. Chambers and more chambers.

Opium poppies with sigils carved into the pods (an attraction tactic to harvest Need Freaks far and wide) growing wild mutated overgrown covering old abandoned crack flats and cat houses. Pumped but limp seeping milk into thousand drip drops from their oversized pods that were rapidly lapped up by the Cat people before the milk hardened (sometimes in long urine-like slashes) up like dry wax, huge pale puddles of drying gum, the junkies wait once the beasts have had there fill. Dozens of Ayahuasca fill silos circle the chemical labs where raw opium is rendered into Hydo-Fent, cooking up even more potent opioids via chemical combinations - an infinity of numbers making mouculer geometry - atoms arranged into new chemical nightmares. Never ending nightmares.

Vast gigantic Fly Agaric mushrooms droop over the wastelands their vast red caps decomposing slowly in the sun causing the speckled white spots to melt and slide off the caps like some hallucinogenic cottage cheese.

Dozens of thin crucifixes sixty metres high tower into the sickly yellow sky swaying over the crack stalls and brick factories and torture cells, like macabre satellites of wood and meat, the crucified long since stopped screaming now puretrfied sacrificed nailed high corpses now only alive via the parasites that feast off them ... while they lay in wait for hosts of crow, vultures and so on. ...The very First of the Crucified nothing lives - baked to beautiful bleach pink encrusted husks, rendered that way from the radiating rays of the atomic eye, the pulsating blood orange that is the, Sun still rising (has it never) to claim itself as the only legitimate god of the Wasteland: Helios.

Our Human walks already blistering naked reborn dead - and continues into the first Circuit, his guide known simply as the Other, walks beside him, imitating his every move and gesture, our Human or HIM and his doppelganger guide now begin to finish the tame tour of this first of the nine Circuits...They slowly pass in pulsations through yet another field of Opuim poppies - forever in process of Harvest, by once tortured souls who continue to slice sigils into the oversized poppy pods to siphon its "Need" (an enegry of monumental parasitic importance in this realm) it issues out an essence of white smoked delirium tinged with aniseed, it rapidly forms in a sepia spirit that's nano-siphoned off for eartly dimensions, enriching the rich milkly sap that draws drips and dries rapidly under the Sun, their black blades expertly gather the fattening opium gum, as both Human and his Other (or Guide) pass through these ghosts of this spetic ozone essence, an eternity passes until both come to stop at wire fence that itself is covered in handmade small straw dolls with pins covering each and everyone, also - scarlet occult sigils seem scrawled across practically across all of them - those small dolls - all made of tightly wrapped fraying string as dry as old bones. Licked red. The pins too ... red with rust. A galaxy of them spetic pricks dripped a Zippy yellow coloured oil from each and every thousand needle eye. The sand absorbs it like a toilet mop absorbs piss.

At last the wire gate eerily swang open, letting them pass through as it swings back into place behind him and his guide, walks on, the a malignant stench followed by a frantic wind passes through them leaving a think kildospocic coloured membranous plasma across their now naked bodies: this signifies the next Circuit is in post.

The transition caused or Human to suffer a vivid sensation of a spider slowly crawling across his brain. A rancid shudder gooseflesh and a ripple of fear caused a tightening of his balls. He sensed before being informed by his guide he had entered the following Circuit, a sudden explosion of De jvu so intense it caused his knees to buckle as soon as he thought it would never leave it left. And he regained his composure.

Coffin lengthed-sized rectangular blocks of quivering green jelly containing screaming children stretched as far as the eye could see, (in all directions), they were seen lite up but for the black everywhere ... was HIS first vision. In seconds they solidified to stone and turned black disappearing but for a vague green outline of lines, all but the screaming children remained, and it never stopped until it was eventually a vague unconscience din.

365 Days Of Art 2018

First off, this is going to be a long post.

I have decided to make a drawing challenge list for an entire year. Ya sounds crazy but I’ve always been a bit eccentric.

This is also going to be my New Years resolution, so starting January 1st I will be picking a subject at random every day. Just need to find a big jar ^_^

I will be working in any media, not just pencil. The great thing about this challenge is that I can experiment with different media. This also takes me back to my College days, where we did a lot of experimenting e.g with sticks, feathers, I even made a printing tile out of form I found in a Pizza box.

Why am I doing this? I want to start drawing and painting again and I’ve always found it very therapeutic.

100 Days of Comics! 020/100: Deadpool v Gambit (The “V” is for “Vs.”) #2 (2016)

And the box of 100 mystery comics rewards me yet again! Today’s rummage brings me the Deadpool and Gambit teamup book. Team-up because at least in this issue, there’s not any vs-ing between them. Just a lot of hurt feelings and ‘can i trust you’ ‘oh defs’

What makes it more of a weird reward is that this book was written by Ben Acker and Ben Blacker, from the Thrilling Adventure Hour.

Apparently Deadpool and Gambit have a History. Because if there’s any universal truth is that popular characters will eventually get History with everyone. Wolverine for example, has probably met and teamed-up with everyone in his mysterious past. And Deadpool and Gambit are both popular characters with mysterious pasts.

Though in this situation, their history was that they once teamed up with a hustler named Chalmers to heist some diamonds and then he triple-crossed them. But now he has contacted them again with some new job.

Although they’re not sure whether they should trust the guy, when he hands them a briefcase of money as a down payment, Deadpool is in. And Gambit is in-terested.

The job is to steal a jade Dragon’s Tongue from some businessman called Peng Lai. But they’ll need his fingerprints to open his safebox so Gambit and Deadpool will have to go undercover as Neo and Steve Zahn and party with Peng Lai.

The guy is a handful though and it takes them a while to get good prints. He keeps doing stuff like jumping into pit fights and not falling asleep despite drugged food and magic booze. They finally get the final print off a girl’s butt. Because groping.

Deadpool was expecting Chalmers to double cross them again so he put a tracer on the guy. Good thing he did. The box was being guarded by a ninja defense system. Deadpool pulls a switcheroo by using an image inducer to return a snickers bar instead of the Dragon’s Tongue and Chalmers finally explains whats what what.

The Dragon’s Tongue is actually a vitality talisman and Chalmers has such cancer that he ‘basically have minutes to live.’ He wants to use the tongue to live long enough so he can make things right with his wife before he dies.

So he says. Deadpool still doesn’t trust him so he drags him to the safehouse so he can personally count the money. The money is legit except Peng Lai shows up. And his name isn’t Peng Lai. He’s Fat Cobra. One of the immortal weapons. He took that dragon tongue from an actual dragon. Its the only prize he took in his entire life. So he is pissed.

Also, Chalmers vanished and he took the money with him and Gambit is nowhere to be seen. Poor Steve Zahn.

That’s the plot. Its, y’know, a comic book heist kind of plot. But the writing is pretty funny as you’d probably expect from the Thrilling Adventure Hour people.

When Chalmers gives Gambit a briefcase full of money, Gambit chides him: “Don’t just throw a briefcase, man. Ask if I’m ready. Rule one of throwing briefcases. Good thing I have catlike reflexes and -- that’s a lot of money right there.”

At one point Deadpool pisses off Doctor Voodoo by calling him a Harry Potter type so Deadpool asks what kind of transport an apology and three hundred bucks will buy him, Doctor Voodoo summons a pink bike with a bunny basket for him to ride.

Lot of funny things. Gambit slacking off on the job to flirt with a woman with a white streak in her hair and unabashedly admitting he has a type but promising he’ll have Deadpool’s back when it really counts.

The pit fighters asking Fat Cobra to get back in his seat and complaining that the guardrails are for a reason.

Oh, have some contextless scans: Tush, a deep-fried thumb, briefcase throwing etiquette, Steve Zahn, a type, an apology and three hundred bucks, challenge run, and a drinking factor.

Might be worth tracking down the book if you’re a fan of the Acker Blacker or Deadpool or Gambit or comic type heists. Although I’m only judging from one issue out of probably... five? Feels like a book that might be five issues long.

Bismuth (a black-coded and butch character) was demonized from the very beginning;

Garnet and Amethyst (two black-coded characters) are ignored by the writers, have their characters watered down and DIDN'T had development, let alone solo episodes about them (the cartoon is perpetually stuck on Steven's perspective);

Steven is a uncaring self-centered little prick. He disreguarded Connie's feelings at the beginning of "Dewey Wins", and has left Lars alone in space;

Speaking of Lars, he had his nationality revealed short moments before his death... and was ressurrected as some pink zombie and became a plot device for Steven;

Pearl is a Predatory Lesbian with her devotion to Rose Quartz! She almost let Steven die, brainwashed Connie to be a mindless soldier, and demonized Greg falling in love with Rose;

Peridot (who's said to be autistic-coded) was infantilized and reduced into comic relief (it's Lauren Zuke's fault);

The non-binary representation is AWFUL. Stevonnie is pedo-bait (their supposed age is 26; 12 + 14, Steven and Connie's ages!) and Smoky Quartz was born through self-hatred and depression (trust me, that's no good rep);

The Zoomans are portrayed as hot and childlike. Please, don't tell me you guys were fine with that episode;

The writers have a neo-liberalist mentality, and they expect the audience to forgive the Diamonds, who are literal fucking TYRANTS who commited genocide of their own kind in order to create a geoweapon (remember the Cluster?), and colonized planets for their own benefit;

Rose Quartz was revealed to be Pink Diamond, and everything we knew was a LIE. This twist is bad, like Hydra!Cap levels of bad;

Rebecca says that there are no villains in her fantasy... if there are NO villains, then what are the Diamonds?!

Steven Universe is garbage.

Look, I’m a woman with simple needs. All I want is a Magical Girl series that:

A) DOESN’T make fun of the genre;

B) DOESN’T kill off magical girls for the Shock Value™ and senseless entertainment for the male audience;

C) DOESN’T sexualize the magical girls.

It ain’t THAT hard to understand.
