anyway. this is what ygo deck archetypes i think my ocs would use. some of these have genuine reasoning. most dont.

also disclaimer i dont play the tcg/ocg this is entirely from my knowledge of the ygo anime of which i am most familiar with 5ds, zexal, arc v.

aspen: photon

ok probably the one ill be yapping the most about BUT.

aspen has honestly always been a number hunter type of character to me. nearly everything he does is out of love and out of care for his friends and family, and he also just generally tends to have a lot of big feelings that revolve around them, something that reminds me heavily of not JUST kaito tenjo, but also droite (both from zexal plus the arc v iteration of kaito).

if rather than haruto it was any of his friends or family, aspen would honestly be very similar to kaito not because taking numbers has hardened his heart or because it drains him because in contrast to kaito, aspen as a character has a fundamental love and care for EVERYBODY AND EVERYTHING that ultimately makes it so he would not only be drained by any equivalent of the photon transformation but also the guilt.

aspen sharma is the chill one. nothing that bad has happened to him. he doesn't get to be angry for himself. not when instead of being angry he can try to fix things he can try to make things right. if hunting numbers is the way to do that then he ill do it, no matter how much the guilt drains him and how tired he is of hurting people. because he has to for the people he loves.

theres also just. this.

more focused on the cards themselves, there's also the obvious thing with the photon archetype including galaxy eyes photon dragon, and aspen's whole thing is dragons. but ALSO. galaxy eyes photon dragon is very unique within zexal that it is not an xyz monster but rather a level 8 effect monster, typically summoned through a tribute, BUT. it does have xyz monster counterparts, most notably neo galaxy eyes photon dragon but also number 62: galaxy eyes prime photon dragon. and like i feel like there are comparisons to be drawn between aspen currently considering himself and being a completely normal teenage boy, e boy style and all, but later on being completely and irrevocably changed, but deep down still being aspen. yk?
