Summary: Daryl reunites with his daughter and finds out that Negan is holding his wife.

How could he have not known it was her? Sure, the voice was muffled, muted by the wall between them. It had been easy to keep two prisoners separated. Still, he should have felt it. He should have known.

“Negan has mom.”

With the little one still clasping his finger, Daryl’s eyes shot up to meet his daughter’s.

“Your mama’s—she’s alive?”

Harley nodded, her face etched in worry. But more than that, he could see hope shining through. He knew that she had somehow managed not to lose faith in such a hellish world. They had found one another and if anyone could save Leni, it would be Daryl.

“She made sure we got out, but she wasn’t there. She didn’t show up to the meeting spot.”

Daryl nodded. “Tell me everything you know.”

“What’re ya gonna do?” Harley watched him gently push the baby’s grip off of his finger. He turned on a heel to stalk toward Barrington house.

“Gonna go get ‘er.”

They had all tried to talk him out of it, pleading that he wait until they could form a plan. He had conceded but only until nightfall, leaving in the cover of shadows. He had pushed his bike through the gates with a nod to the guards, not starting her up until he was down the hill and nearly out of hearing range.

He had gone without his wife for far too long, thought her dead—just as she had him. He could not only imagine the despair that Leni had felt. He had lived it. Felt the pang of jealousy as the people around him held tightly to the love they had found after the end of the world. It hadn’t been fair and it had made him bitter.

Rick and the others had stared at him, jaws agape, after discovering that he was not only married, not only had children, but was a grandfather. That had been news to him as well. Daryl. A grandfather. Man, he was too young for that. Then again, he and Leni hadn’t exactly waited until later in life to start a family.

Leni. He still couldn’t believe she was alive. Likely worse for wear but alive. And she had been right there, so close.

“You’re gonna get outta here, y’know.” The voice said. At least, that’s what he thought she said. It was so difficult to hear, but even so, the presence on the other side of the wall made him feel less alone. A stranger kept the nightmares at bay. A tone that he found comfort in regardless of the hard stone between them.

“Don’t know ‘bout that.” He huffed, a hand bracing his aching ribs. “Don’t stand any less’a a chance than you do.”

“Nah.” Came the reply. “I been here too long, tried too many times. Maybe ya can learn from my mistakes.”

He had escaped that same day, never imagining that he had been so close to his wife. So fucking close. But now that he knew that she was alive, where she was being kept, he would raze the Sanctuary to the ground before he’d let her stay there one second longer.

“M’comin’, Leni.” He doubled down on the gas, the bike roaring beneath him as it picked up speed. “Ya just hang on for me.”

ok I'm back on my Negan/Judith kick

this time with an AU where the apocalypse didn't happen

Judith gets dragged out to a bar by some friends in college, she doesn't drink and didn't really want to go, but she had so few friends already that she wasn't going to risk losing these ones

so they go out and her friends ditch her

she ends up sitting alone at the bar, sipping on a coke, trying to decide if she was just going to call a cab to get back to campus or stick around till her friends come find her since they were her ride

and then she sees a familiar face she can't quite place

one of Carl's old highschool teachers

she had only met him a couple times because she got dragged along to parent teacher nights, he was no longer a teacher by the time she got to highschool. Older students said something about him getting arrested but she didn't buy it, it was just gossip. She doubted he'd even know who she was, but at least it was someone she knew

so she goes to talk to him and sure enough, it is in fact coach Smith. She introduces herself, mentions he taught her brother. He of course asks what she's doing here, and she tells him her friends ditched her, she asks him the same. He just kind of evades the question and won't give her a straight answer.

eventually she decides she's had enough of waiting on her friends, and Negan offers to give her a ride back to campus so she doesn't have to pay for a cab. He also gives her his number in case she gets ditched again.

And sure enough she does. (she needs better friends unfortunately)

this time she gets ditched at a party off campus, and some guy she could not care less about is hitting on her, so she gets outside and calls Negan, not thinking he'd actually pick up so late. But he does, and he comes to get her. Unfortunately she does have to go wait back inside, and the same guy from before finds her. he just does not know when to quit. He even follows her out when she says her ride is here. to both of their surprises, Negan came on his motorcycle this time. So Random College Asshole sees big burley guy with a badass leather jacket leaned against a Harley and, understandably, backs off. Judith isn't sure about the motorcycle, but Negan's able to coax her onto it -and yes he brought a helmet for her. It was Lucille's so it's a little big but she does have a helmet-

He also doesn't take her straight back to the college, he takes her on a ride around the city, shows her some cool views, that kinda thing (same vibes as Christian taking Anastasia up in the helicopter) [this thought totally derailed what I was doing I'm so sorry]

he lets her know next time her "friends" try to take her out anywhere to call him in advance, and he'll come take her out instead. No more getting ditched in crappy bars or lame parties.

So word gets around pretty fast about the guy who picked her up from the party, and rumors start to spread, as they always do. It only gets worse when he starts taking her out more and more regularly.

eventually the calls aren't limited to nights she's in need of rescuing, Judith comes to really enjoy Negan's company

He tries to spoil her, she constantly refuses. She won't admit that she likes his attention, but she does.

Eventually he stops giving her a chance to refuse him. He shows up to her dorm, with a gift. Its a dress. A very flattering, elegant -but simple- black dress. And some flats to go with it. Getting her in a dress was enough of a stretch, heels just would have been cruel. He doesn't tell her where he's taking her, just that they're going out

Its a restaurant, a nice restaurant

and the evening is nicer

and it ends with her back at his place, finally

they've both wanted it, but neither wanted to make the first move in case they were misreading the signals, after all, the age difference was enormous. She was barely 21, and he was well into middle age.

anyway I've lost the plot like three times and if I keep going down this rabbit hole I'm going to make this into a 50 Shades AU so I'm stopping myself here where he's just her sugar daddy
