"Oh my, God, I'm dating an idiot." - Ragatha, probably.
Jax ain't wasting NO TIME in admiring his beautiful wife.
He loves her, really. I can prove it, I promise! Just...uh...give me one hour and forty minutes to analyse the entire show!
Jax does! You're just oblivious, love.
I started crying at this scene.
I think it's important to note that Goose/GLITCH likes to include little easter eggs/secrets in the dubs of the show. E.g. In the German dub the gloinks names are Uzi, V and Cyn.
I say this about this scene specifically because:
@livi-in-digital-circus brought the dubs to my attention before I start waffling about them.I
1
In the Polish dub, Ragatha says: "Ja cie nie lubie? Ale chce zebyś ty lubil mnie." which translates to: "I don't like you? But I want you to like me." I talk about the Polish dub in particular because 'liking someone' can also mean 'having a crush on someone'. In addition, the script could have been "I don't like you." but it's not. There's a '?' at the end, implying that Ragatha is questioning whether she does or does not like Jax.
2
In the Turkish dub, Ragatha says: "Seni- sevmiyorum. Ama benden nefret etme." which translates to: "I don't like you. But don't hate me." Which - going back to how liking someone can mean having a crush on them - could imply that Jax has a crush on Ragatha, and she's aware of that, but she doesn't like him back. But she also doesn't want him to hate her because of it.
3
In the Filipino dub, Ragatha actually doesn't say she hates OR dislikes Jax. She says: "Parang…may galit ako sa'yo? Pero ayaw kong magalit ka sa akin weird ba." which translates to: "It's like… I'm mad at you? I don't want you to be mad at me for being weird." So, basically, she doesn't know if she's mad at him or not. And she's apologising for not knowing.
4
In most of the dubs, Ragatha is questioning whether or whether or not she does hate Jax. Which I personally think is a great for Gooseworx to say "Hey, Bunnydollers, there's no canon romance but that doesn't mean I can't make you tweak out!"
I HIGHLY doubt Ragatha GENUINELY hates Jax. I mean, she was practically high from that idiot sauce. And even though we know she isn't as honest as she seems, I doubt she actually hates anyone. Again, even if she isn't as honest as seems, she doesn't seem to be the type of person to use a word as strong as 'hate' in a genuine way. More like in a way where you'd tell your friends you "hate" them when they do something stupid/immature.

The Snake, the Crocodile, and the Dog
- Completed January 19, 2021 -
Murder! Amnesia! False Identities! Cat sitting!
Amelia and Emerson return to the scene of their first adventure together in Egypt in this seventh book of the series. My thoughts under the cut...
As you can see, I finished this book last month. It’s unfortunate that I didn’t sit down right away and write out this post because I’ve read several books since then and it’s not as fresh in my mind!
I gave it 4 stars on Goodreads, but this really would have been 3 1/2 stars, I think. Honestly, most books in this series rank around there. There always seem to be moments I actively dislike, and the mysteries never really do it for me. The action is too spread out, and the stories all seem to follow the same patterns. And, of course, there’s never enough actual archaeology going on. I used to love the dynamic between Amelia and Emerson, but with this book I think I grew a little tried of their more unhealthy attitudes. Ramses didn’t have an active part in this book, so he wasn’t there to make me hate him more or start to hate him less. His letters were fine enough. Nothing too eye-rolling this time lol.
Since I only remember bits and bobs of the story, I’ll just divide my thoughts into two sections:
Nitpicks: I had a problem with the way Mertz kept referring to Nefret in the last book, and it really didn’t get any better here. There’s so much objectification of “exotic” women in these books, and there’s no shortage of “whiteness is the superior beauty” sentiment to be found in the series either. I hate how she feels the need to constantly mention Nefret’s physical appearance. This is a child we are talking about, and the author thought it would be totally cool to mention her adult male character (who acts as a father to this 13 year old girl) admiringly watching her figure as she walked? Am I the crazy one here to think that is irredeemably gross??
Ramses having a crush on Nefret is fine as long as he doesn’t turn into more of a creep, but I sincerely hope Evelyn raises Nefret instead because the girl is already calling Ramses “brother” and I don’t want this to be more creepy.
Amelia is writing this down as if she is working on publishing it. And yet refers to keeping the secret of the lost oasis?
I hate Emerson’s hypocrisy about sex and gender roles. It is not endearing.
I hate the constant “in your face” nature of the “English gentlemen” stereotype. It is mentioned in this book so often that I started to lose my patience. I know Mertz is American and these books are often tongue-in-cheek, but it was just too much for me this time around. “No English gentlemen would do this,” or talk of “the infallible British moral code” ...like these aren’t the folks committing the highest number of atrocities in the world during this time.
I usually love dragging men when they deserve criticism, but I’m afraid Amelia really crosses the line into “man-hating feminist” sometimes. But you get the feeling she has a ton of internalized misogyny too. At least she almost acknowledges it from time to time. Plus Amelia is classist as heck.
Amelia’s comments about beards on men were really messed up.
You knew something was up with Cyrus this whole time because Mertz goes out of her way to constantly show how much Amelia trusts him wholeheartedly. It was so silly because he hasn’t showed up in a book for ages. I pretty much knew Sethos was involved very early on.
Emerson punched Amelia in the face to knock her out. Sorry y’all, there is NO EXCUSE for this. I don’t care what his motive was. I loved Emerson in the early books, but this is not okay.
Things I liked: Abdullah and Amelia finally showing a bit of relationship development. Him referring to Amelia as “my daughter” was a very sweet moment.
This was my first time listening to Barbara Rosenblat’s narration. She brought Amelia to life in a way I hadn’t previously experienced, and it definitely enhanced my reading. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t say she did the male voices particularly well though.
Despite my criticisms with the way Mertz writes everyone around Nefret behaving and thinking, I do like Nefret herself. She has a bit of an Anne of Green Gables thing going on at the start of the book. Nefret of Amarna House. Her making Amelia promise not to go down to the school and hit the mean girls over the head with her parasol was pretty funny.
One thing I appreciate about this series is the way Barbara Mertz will tie in some of her real world knowledge of ancient Egypt to loosely fit the theme of the book. Most of the time it is a flimsy connection, but at least it may teach me something new! In this case, I had never heard the tale of the Doomed Prince, so I was happy to learn about it.
The scene where Amelia was drunk was very funny, but I’m sad a dog was tortured and killed for this scene to happen.
“Cats cannot be held guilty for their actions, since they have no morals to speak of.” Can agree. Have cats.

Conclusion:
So I’m sorry this isn’t a well-written, thought-out review. I guess this is mostly for me to come back to reference. These books are best enjoyed really spaced out from one another lol. They can be really difficult to enjoy. I thought they were going to be comfort books, but they are a bit too problematic for that. I will continue to read thought the series, but it will probably be longer between entires if they stay so same-y, predictable, and disappointing. Don’t get me wrong, they aren’t bad. It’s just that I’ve been chasing the same feeling I got when reading the first book in the series, and I just haven’t had that experience again. Also, I’m sorry if I sometimes refer to the author as Mertz, but say Peters other times. I’m also sorry for my poor writing skills in general, but like I said, these posts are mostly for me.

Book: Marked (Book 1 of House of Night)
Author: P.C. Cast & Kristin CAst
Publisher: St. Martin’s Press
Release Date: May 1st, 2007
Format: ePub
Pages: 306
Started Reading: October 15th, 2019
Finished Reading: November 15th, 2019
Summary (supplied from GoodReads): After a Vampire Tracker Marks her with a crescent moon on her forehead, 16-year-old Zoey Redbird enters the House of Night and learns that she is no average fledgling. She has been Marked as special by the vampyre Goddess Nyx and has affinities for all five elements: Air, Fire Water, Earth and Spirit. But she is not the only fledgling at the House of Night with special powers. When she discovers that the leader of the Dark Daughters, the school’s most elite club, is mis-using her Goddess-given gifts, Zoey must look deep within herself for the courage to embrace her destiny – with a little help from her new vampyre friends (or Nerd Herd, as Aphrodite calls them)
My Thoughts: Hmm...where to start....
Well lets start with setting I assume? In my minds eye this is in a parallel universe to our own, not quite our own reality. I say this because in the book it is common knowledge that there are humans and vampyres amongst the civilians of the universe. Heck the humans know that they may get “changed” into a fledgeling if they are “marked” by a “tracker” (another vampyre gifted with the ability to sense where a potential fledgeling is and mark them for the vampyre goddess Nyx). Other than that little difference based on my opinion, most of the technologies for 2007 are the same as we would have had in that year. Its kind of interesting that both of the writers made a logical choice and had the vampyre schedule be pretty much the flip side of the human schedule, Night vs Day. To me it made sense, and I wouldn’t have had it any other way.
Characters were actually pretty well rounded out for a beginning book of a series I think. It kind of gives you a glimpse at them, and want to learn more about them. But, of course with there being at least 12 books in the series there is still a lot of character development to be made. Honestly I’m not too surprised that this one has the content that it does simply because there is A LOT to cover.
As for each individual character....Nefret you can tell that there is something more with her from the foreshadowing that the protagonist Zoey gives us. Damien seems like a cupcake BATHED in glitter goodness, funny because thats how Stevie Rae is portrayed to the other characters. Speaking of Stevie Rae? I freaking LOVED her, honestly from the moment we’re introduced to her character you’re made to feel like there is to be a deep bond between her and Zoey. Mind you I think this is foreshadowing for the other books. The Twins are two psuedo twin girls from different ethnic backgrounds, but love everything the same way. I found them interesting in the fact that they are so much alike and spicy in personalities, but I do wish that we could have seen them more in this book, but again there is another at least 12 books so there is time for that. The character of Zoey’s “ex-almost-boyfriend” is named Heath....he’s not a bad guy....but he’s very much like a puppy that just won’t leave you alone...yeah take that how you want. The 2nd love interest of Zoey is Erik. He’s not a bad guy, but it just seems too easy of a love interest to me, like way to easy? “Hey I’m the new kid and I’m going to automatically get the attention of the hottest guy on campus”. Honestly I don’t know if I like that trope simply because I prefer the build up of a relationship dynamic. But, lets not forget about our main character Zoey Redbird. She’s not a bad character? She just seems kind of flat to me a bit. Especially when she has such a rich background and ethnic history that could have been explored more, or even stressed more to the audience. She seems like the type of character that is just spit out in a video game world and knows what they have to do *looks pointedly at SAO with a glare*. But, that’s just my opinion.
Now for a possibly touch topic? It really shouldn’t be touchy considering that its JUST a book. Religion/Faith/Spirituality. You’ve got a lot of this in the novel’s, and I guess you could say its the driving force of the realm that the books take place in. You have the humans and their “People of the Faith” who honour and worship the Judeo/Christian God, and who think that anything that is different than that is devil worship. On the flip side of that coin you have the vampyre society who acknowledges this god, but knows its not for their path and have been chosen to follow the way of Nyx the goddess of the night. Honestly this book was the first thing that introduced me into my own faith. I myself am Wiccan, but didn’t know exactly what this book was pulling from at the time of reading it. This is where I really do have to pay it to the writers for doing their research regarding pagan, mainly I do believe Dianic Wicca (I’m taking a guess on this path of Wicca simply for the fact that Dianic is more feminine power based to my knowledge). The symbolysims were pretty spot on from the colour candles representing each element to the fact that there is a goddess in this path. There is another reason why I want to say that it seems like the Vampyre society reflects pagan faiths. They acknowledge the other paths are there, but know where their feet are looking to go down the paths.
Now, I think I should address the writing style. Its actually fitting for the books. Its written like a teenager communicates. With the exception of Zoey though....to be honest she’s a little too innocent in the language department when I compare it to how I was at that age. On the other hand its probably at an age group that is probably available for a 13 year old to read? Even if there is some conent that you’re like “how is this in a book written in the language appropriate for a 14 year old? They should be more innocent?” Its just a little bit of a mixed vibe, but not bad.
Verdict: I’m going to rate this book as a 3.5 stars. Its showing that its got more in store for the story, and keeps you reading. It really is showing the potential in my eyes.

Bookish Questions
Tagged by the always lovely @dreamywritingdragon
1. Which book has been on your shelves the longest? I found a couple Little Golden Books the last time I cleaned out my bookcases so I must have had them since I was wee little. I also have most of the Black Stallion series left while some are apparently lost forever.
2. What is your current read, your last read and the book you’ll read next?
Current read: Tactics Vol. 7 and The Atlantis Stone (a Kindle freebie)
Last read: Jingo by Terry Pratchett
Next Read: The Luckiest Woman Ever (another Kindle freebie)
3. Which book does everyone like and you hated? There are a lot, but probably the first Game of Thrones book. I tried twice to read it and gave up both times. Just...no. It hit all my biggest squicks and then doubled some of them.
4. Which book do you keep telling yourself you’ll read, but you probably won’t? Ayn Rand’s The Fountainhead or Atlas Shrugged. I own copies--somewhere--but I fear they’ll be a long slog and so I kind of don’t wanna.
5. Which book are you saving for “retirement?” None, but someday I want to read the entire Wheel of Time series again since I took a year-long break between the last three books (I wasn’t ready for it to end).
6. Last page: read it first or wait till the end? Wait until the end! I don’t want to be spoiled!
7. Acknowledgements: waste of ink and paper or interesting aside? I read them to judge what kind of person the author is. :3
8. Which book character would you switch places with? Nefret in the Amelia Peabody series. She was a total Mary Sue but she got the boy and happy ending so.
9. Do you have a book that reminds you of something specific in your life (a person, a place, a time)? Oh, wow, most of them! I remember so vividly reading particular books as a kid and what was going on at home or school at the time. Some books I connect with old friends or ex-boyfriends or reading at a certain job. And some I can’t re-read because they remind me of the really bad times of my life when I first read them. Except Discworld which I finally read the summer my Dad died and which I credit with helping to keep me sane.
10. Name a book you acquired in some interesting way. One of my cousins is a self-pub author and gave me a signed copy of one of his novels.
11. Have you ever given away a book for a special reason to a special person? Yes, I tried! I shared the first Amelia Peabody Emerson book with my best friend at the time because I really thought she’d love it and I’d finally have someone to fangirl with...but she never read it and finally gave it back a couple years later.
12. Which book has been with you to the most places? My Bible? The one I got right after high school traveled to uni with me then all over the country and such for work and through apartments until I settled here.
13. Any “required reading” you hated in high school that wasn’t so bad ten years later? Romeo and Juliet. Unfortunately my high school teacher wasn’t skilled enough to make Shakespeare come alive or relatable in any real way. Thank God for wonderful uni profs!
14. What is the strangest item you’ve ever found in a book? A baseball card for a player I didn’t recognize. I stuck it back in and returned it to the library.
15. Used or brand new? Whichever I can afford.
16. Stephen King: Literary genius or opiate of the masses? I’ve never actually read any of his works! I’m not a huge fan of horror because I’m a scaredy-cat.
17. Have you ever seen a movie you liked better than the book? The Princess Bride.
18. Conversely, which book should NEVER have been introduced to celluloid? I don’t watch enough movies to judge.
19. Have you ever read a book that’s made you hungry, cookbooks being excluded from this question? If I did, I can’t remember a specific one.
20. Who is the person whose book advice you’ll always take? I used to follow this one extraordinary fanfic writer on LiveJournal who would rec books, and I enjoyed almost all of them I tried, and I think she was one of those who really encouraged Discworld too.

bye ... i’m truly done taking up muses ... these are short n poorly written but i did them ! i’ll eventually add more information on everyone when i finally get around to finishing muse pages but honestly ? this is all u need to know for now. again, if u wanna plot, just hmu :P a few mentions of drugs n alcoholism but nothing descriptive. here’s percy, zach, ajay, luke, bunny, paris & luma ! (i’ve added gwen, helena n gia too just so they’re all in one place bc i’m lazy)
FINN COLE, CIS MALE, HE/HIM — have you met perseus sage nichols yet ? the twenty-two year old is known for being both astute and jocular, but also very obstreperous and arrogant. born in melbourne, percy now lives in kensington, working as a junior management consultant. comes from a nice family that he will always be pissed off at for very little reason. has beef w his dad for not providing even tho he really did, it was just never enough for percy. is exactly the type of dude that got mad when leo didn’t win the oscar for wolf. just wanted to be dumb rich n coked out. v smart and got an international scholarship at a good university, by the time he got kicked out for being a rowdy asshole, he’d helped his friends develop some legit apps (the most successful one being a dating app which two yrs later is really just a meme) and they suddenly had a lot of money, he just bought his way back in. bc he was in charge of the business side of things, it was easy enough for him to screw over his friends n walk away w most of what was left when their success went down the drain. got a job as a management consultant at a big, scary firm in london mostly thanks 2 his reputation. is a known ugly n ruthless n desperate to be at the top n live in disgusting luxury. can’t talk to his family or old pals without Wanting To Die bc he’s so committed to this new life he’s created for himself. is literally awful if he doesn’t like u, still awful just in a less hurtful n more annoying way if he does. doesn’t know when to stop. always forgetting n probably trying to hide the fact that he’s not a trust fund baby like all the people he hangs with now. literally just clyde oberholt ?
JAMIE BLACKLEY, CIS MALE, HE/HIM — have you met zachary vaughn baltazar yet ? the twenty-five year old is known for being both unostentatious and sincere, but also very self-deprecating and uncouth. born in berlin, zach now lives in southwark, working as a telemarketer. the nice guy who is always getting rekt (he wrecking himself lbr) is Um .. a v talented writer but is happy just shitting on his work n never exploring his potential bc why bother when he has the ideal amount of friends n weed atm right ? given up and is convinced he is satisfied, will accept any invitation. still won’t let you live tho. has opinions on ur choices and will probably share them behind ur back. somehow feels underappreciated by everyone even tho he truly believes there is nothing to appreciate. omg have a cry and grow up. king of impressive first dates n writes rlly romantic poetry but is either ghosting or getting ghosted the following week bc he is dry and confused. doesn’t know if this is really what he wants/doesn’t feel like he deserves what he wants. close with his family but tries to force more n more distance bc he can’t stand their #drama... or any drama that doesn’t give him an edge Actual Of Ly. the ders of the squad probably.
RAHUL KOHLI, CIS MALE, HE/HIM — have you met ajay charles johal yet ? the thirty year old is known for being both urbane and jovial, but also very restless and quixotic. born in chennai, ajay now lives in newham, as an airline pilot. moved to london w his parents when he was v young, spent all of his teenage yrs feeling guilty for no reason just like watching all his parents did for him to be happy n healthy ? never got over the guilt. is just a v feeling person ig ! anyways he was so committed to helping his parents out, which was rlly truly the only thing he’s ever committed to in his life. needed enough money to support all three of them but rlly had no idea how to go about it. pilot was just one of the ideas handed to him back in high school n he went with it bc he knew he’s never actually settle on anything. turned out ok bc he likes being able 2 actually get the entire hell away from his problems. a v flighty person (aha... classic) and doesn’t have many close relationships bc of it. v respected ... v respectful ... quality lad but can be a lil immature under it all. wish he’d stop feeling bad just bc he has GOOD parents.
TOBY REGBO, CIS MALE, HE/HIM — have you met luciano andrius falley yet ? the twenty-five year old is known for being both genial and cultivated, but also very irksome and delphic. born in naples, luke now lives in camden, as a struggling actor and annoying historian. tragic backstory ? never heard of that. comes from a supportive ($$$ n <333) family who probably only pay for the many flights for all his long ass self discovery backpacking trips bc deep down they can’t put up with him anymore. is a super friendly n outgoing person, the type that is literally always reading a book he only half understands but will bring up what he has learned from it at one of his MANY dinner parties where ur only option is CHICKEN and lots of wine while he refuses to SHUT THE FRICK UP. cute ! kinda very judgemental but will just sigh n let u fuck up. “not to get political but...” is always like Hm Yes ! I Love Hearing Other People’s Stories ! but when ? when does he hear anything other than his own voice ? he probably gives himself lectures on intersectional feminism when he’s home alone he just doesn’t stop. honestly he only ever means well n ig he’s interesting enough but Really... fake struggling yet still pretentious aesthetics.
MARGOT ROBBIE, CIS FEMALE, SHE/HER — have you met elizabeth celine leblanc ? the twenty-seven year old is known for being both coruscating and ardent, but also very egocentric and bourgeois. born in seattle, bunny now lives in southwark, as an influential homemaker. boozy housewife. spent her childhood living below the poverty line before her father began helping ppl smuggle drugs into america. he built his own big operation off of that (with a hygiene product company as a cover) and was successful enough to squash the few people it pissed off. business spread to europe n then when he was ready to retire and the south gang was interested, he had elizabeth marry into it before he sold the operation just to make sure he would always be taken care of. it got handed down to her husband bc she wasn’t interested in any legit roles (her asshole fathers fault honestly ? he wouldn’t have given her control even if she wanted it) and she just went along with whatever would keep her from returning to her Humble Beginnings. is very “i do whatever i have to in order to survive” n by survive she means never actually work n just waltz around a mansion in designer gowns all day. materialistic n v selfish. fake charitable for her socialite image. doesn’t cook, but is always sharing recipes. has no real interest in the soap she pretends to make. is consistently fake. literally gets zero joy from anything that isn’t spending money. could probably be happy if she could escape her family’s ugly beliefs n misogynistic practices n she’s getting there but just . slowly. hates the nickname bunny, but i’m forcing the meme.

SOFIA BLACK-D'ELIA, CIS FEMALE, SHE/HER — have you met luma camille pontecorvo yet ? the twenty-three year old is known for being both optimistic and dexterous, but also very prevaricating and overindulged. born in quebec city, luma now lives in waltham forest, working in retail. ah , another brat . she was left w her much older half brother n his wife when he mom dipped when she was fourteen n honestly they felt so bad n also had no idea how to handle her so they just . gave her everything she wanted without question. she had her mothers bad attitude n reckless habits tho n when she started getting her nieces n nephews in trouble once they were all in college together, her brother Politely kicked her out of their lives by offering to set her up anywhere she wanted “for the Experience”. she picked london n quickly got a job at a kingsley store n has been working there for a few yrs now. now also deals party drugs at clubs for the north family n she rlly lets that be the focus of her life, so she’s always showing up to her day job late n overtired. doesn’t ever really lie but rarely tells the whole truth. ig she would be fun to hang out with but she’s probably a fair bit cunty. doesn’t care about ur feelings, has very few of her own, just here for a meme. truthfully she’s angry abt everyone ditching her but it gets ugly whenever the topic comes up n dark!luma is an actual thing that makes an appearance.
MADCHEN AMICK, CIS FEMALE, SHE/HER — have you met gwendolyn griet hathaway yet ? the forty-three year old is known for being both reverent and winsome, but also very acquisitive and ambivalent. born in las vegas, gwen now lives in richmond upon thames, managing a record label. also known as gwen nash. mother to gertrude bc we meme too hard. born in nevada, her own momther bailed early n then her father disappeared when she was fourteen (she’s always been sure he was murdered by a biker gang but no one believed her n kept saying he just ran off on her but ! the story comes up whenever she drinks still) n she ended up just getting a cleaning job in a motel n taking care of herself. eventually she met a nice older couple who sort of took her in. they were responsible for a lot of jazz artists n she stanned them hard ? sang for them for a short while n eventually married their son mostly bc she wanted to actually be part of the family yikes… anyway they had a Beautiful Daughter together obviously n eventually got control of the label n thats all they rlly share now post separation. tragic n twenty years later than everyone expected . anyway she’s lurkin about london, lookin for talent n trying to fix her relationship with gertrude (i’d hate my mom if she named me that too … no a fence) n just drinkin wine ig ! she’s very … impulsive and only ever thinks about herself in the moment but otherwise ? she can be kind n caring but Ya . her habit of just jumping into things for her own pleasure generally hurts other people so she’s a lot of strained relationships. still seems v standoffish mostly bc she’s Um . Scared Of Everything. literally does not matter how much shit she sees ? permanently spooked. lowkey cruel sense of humor but she just seems so gentle 95% of the time that when she makes a sick joke ur like Oh she doesn’t realize how bad that sounds ! hates memes.
LILY JAMES, CIS FEMALE, SHE/HER — have you met helena therese o’shea yet ? the twenty-six year old is known for being both cultivated and strong-willed, but also very callous and tenacious. born in chicago, helena now lives in wandsworth, working at erstead’s and planning birthday parties. a tragedy. always had it in her head that she was better than everyone else (especially her brother ) but never fully committed to the brat act, like she never threw tantrums or asked for too much, v well mannered n proper but it’s always been obvious that she’s permanently disgusted by everyone except for herself. sometimes also disgusted by herself tho. will say something cringeworthy n just about put a hit on herself for it. was a v successful wedding planner for a while, her business took off rlly quick thanks to a few helpful connections. got engaged herself 3 years ago and cut off most of her family n all her old friends to start this new amazing life she always thought she deserved ? sike. after three years of putting off the wedding, she got dumped n came home to work @ erstead’s bc she’s like well if i’m gonna crash this hard i might as well hit rock bottom ! plans birthday parties for children occasionally. hates children. hates everything. fun ? never experienced that emotion. barely tries to make up with the people she wronged bc despite setting herself back 6 yrs, she still thinks she’s above everyone else. loves to complain. doesn’t really have much going for her honestly other than ? total commitment to whatever it is that’s happening in her life. obviously that’s not workin out for her rn ?
CHARLI XCX, CIS FEMALE, SHE/HER — have you met georgiana lalaine visariya yet ? the twenty-three year old is known for being both jocund and unfeigned, but also very vexatious and lowbrow. born in kiev, gia now lives in soho, being extra on youtube. gia is honestly .. a headache. she was always a v creative person, ‘expressing herself’ n doin’ the most when literally no one asked ever. she started vlogging two years ago n got bored quickly so instead she decided to start her own (fake) reality series on youtube ? she handled everything by herself at first n reached out to hot local people who were popular on instagram n youtube to star in it WITH HER and only got a few people in on it but ? it took off. now she has a whole crew n writers n what not working on it with her (even tho most of the time she will take over every part of the production n handle it herself again) n it gets her good money (especially bc she’s shameless n stays making sure she’s a main in every single episode so she gets those instagram sponsors too) calls herself “““punk lauren conrad””” n is clearly too extra. a very very confident n loud person, super friendly, loves everyone n honestly u can try to drag her but that’s not gonna stop her running up to u in the street next time she sees u n telling you to drop whatever it is ur doing to go get cocktails with her. she’s so … genuine irl that you literally would not belieb how much of the show is scripted n thought up by her w that … interesting … imagination. will annoy u for content.
#smoke:intro#im not proofreading so Expect me repeating myself#its too cold for anything so#see u in the morning for attempted replies !#ᴏᴏᴄ ▓ ⚘ — ❛ intro post !

Reading meme
Created and tagged by the wonderful @dreamywritingdragon <3
1. What is your favorite genre?
I’ll try pretty much any fiction, but I usually prefer mysteries or fantasy. I do read and have read a lot of “literature,” but I greatly prefer escapism.
2. How many books did you read this year?
According to Goodreads, 82 BUT a bunch of those are manga and at least 12 are individual chapters of manga that are released monthly, so that artificially boosted my count. I’ve actually been reading through old manga that I own that I haven’t read in years, and it’s fun, along with scoring free ebooks on Amazon and my library.
3. Favorite book of all time?
Aaah, this is impossible! Growing up, it was The Black Stallion, The Black Stallion Mystery and Man O’War by Walter Farley. As a teenager, it was the Dragonlance saga by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman and The Hunt for Red October by Tom Clancy. As a young woman, The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan. Then The Mummy Case by Elizabeth Peters and One For the Money by Janet Evanovich. The Discworld novels by Terry Pratchett. Now, I’m old and I just don’t know. I DO know that I’m more discriminating. I try a lot of free Kindle books on Amazon, and I’m teaching myself it’s OK to stop reading and delete one if it’s awful. And a lot are.
4. The book you never thought you would love but adore so much?
The Harry Potter series. A friend loaned me the first four forever ago, and I liked them and I got around to reading the rest eventually as they came out. I enjoyed them and cried at all the appropriate spots, but I didn’t really fall in love with them until this summer. I listened to all seven audiobooks while I was cleaning out houses, and they just blew me away. Not just her world-building and character-making, but her language and the style of her writing is just incredible. They sound really, really lovely read aloud, which isn’t always the case for a lot of novels. I’ve since re-listened to the first six and they only get better on repeat.
5. The book you thought you would love but ended up hating?
A Game of Thrones.
6. Your favorite book written in your mother tongue?
I feel very spoiled because I can only speak and read English and we have a lot of choices.
7. The writer you would die to meet?
The two writers I would most love to meet are dead—Sir Terry Pratchett and Elizabeth Peters. The other is J.K. Rowling. I wouldn’t be able to say anything; I would just want to sit there and bask in her presence (and hope some of her talent and genius would rub off onto me).
8. The TV/movie adaptation you hate?
I finally got around to watching the Harry Potter movies this fall, and wow, The Goblet of Fire was bad and not true to the spirit of the book at all.
9. The TV/movie adaptation you love with all your heart?
The Princess Bride! I didn’t care for the book, but maybe that was because I already had the movie memorized by the time I read it.
10. The book you wished was adapted on screen (with all the details in, all the right characters depiction, perfect settings…do I need to go on?)
I would LOVE to see The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan done on premium cable. There is plenty of material in 14 completed books, a cast of a thousand characters, all the sex and violence you can shake a stick at. It would be a challenge, but if they could get it right and all the right actors and special effects, it would be AMAZING.
11. Which book would you recommend to your best friend?
I have recommended Elizabeth Peters’ Amelia Peabody Emerson series to so many people. I love it, especially the early books, with all my heart. Lately, I’ve been recommending Howard of Warwick’s novels. He’s a self-pub author on Amazon, and his books literally crack me up. They’re a touch of Terry Pratchett mixed with Monty Python, and I don’t know, his sense of humor strikes me perfectly (y’all know I’ve got a terrible sense of dad humor). He has a series about a medieval monk, Brother Hermitage, who accidentally becomes the King’s Investigator (he literally coins the term “Investigator” from the Latin...it’s a running joke) and the hijinks that occur as he walks around England trying to avoid having to solve murders. He’s accompanied by Wat the weaver who would probably still be able to make a fortune weaving his dirty porno tapestries. Howard really manages to mix in a lot of historical fact and show how everyday life was in 1066 along with the crazy antics of Hermitage and company.
12. Do you read fanfic? If yes, in which fandom?
Moi? Fanfic? What is this fanfic of which you speak? >_>
Hehehe, if I’m interested in a movie or show, I usually got to AO3 right after I watch it and see about fic. I subscribe to a bunch of favorite authors in so many fandoms. And there are the old anime/manga fandoms that I think about once or twice a year and check in on. Last night, it was Bleach.
13. Which is your favorite fanfic of all times?
I LOVE the writer daegaer on LJ! Everything that she writes—regardless of whether I know the source material or not—is brilliant. I always rank her among my top authors of all time. Her Weiss Kreuz stuff is about 1000 times better than that anime ever was. She is just the writer I will always aspire (and fail) to be!
14. Which wonderful (fanfic) writer did you discover this year?
I’ve gotten to know more DVD writers which is so exciting! :D
15. Who is your book OTP?
Amelia Peabody and Radcliffe Emerson FOREVER
16. And your book NOTP?
Ramses Emerson and Nefret NOPE
17. What are you reading currently?
I’m still trying to get through The Sword and the Dragon by M.R. Mathias (it’s my third try, and I really want to like it because there’s a ton of potential but argh this author tries to weave too many characters and too many subplots and it’s super-confusing. I’m 35% in, and if I can’t get through it this time, I give up.) Also, I just started the manga series Tactics, one of my favorites that I own and I haven’t re-read in years. It’s a lovely story with really beautiful art.
This was a fun meme you made @dreamywritingdragon ! Thank you so much for tagging me! :D
If any of you lovelies would like to play, please do and tag me so I can learn more about you!
