We're super close y'all! Yep this wedding gift is almost 3 years late but my sister doesn't care because she knows she'll get it eventually XD
I could finish stitching it today but I might not as I have my stream over on Twitch, my name on there is JZsketch and I'll be doing a craft stream so feel free to drop a follow and come along, and my current set up isn't cross stitch friendly so I might be doing something else. But I also need to decide how I want to finish this, I was initially going to frame it but depending how difficult it is to find a frame in my very small budget I may make a pillow, suggestions are welcome!

I bought a quarterly needlepoint magazine from 1991 today for $1 at an op shop, and there’s a four page spread about a woman who completely faithfully remakes samplers from the 1600s and the part that blows me away is that she was keeping women in history alive.
The original sampler maker was a teenaged girl called Loara she’s the only one known of seven siblings in that family. She was born approximately 1632 and had passed before her father had in 1656 which they know because it was mentioned in his will.
So in the 1630-40s a girl made a sampler, in 1991 a woman had put in years of research before recreating the sampler as Loara had 350 years earlier , and I’m reading about it in 2024.
Embroidery keeps women alive in history, and it’s part of why I love samplers so much.
Here’s a quote from samplers that I think about often:

I love harvest mice so much, and I wanted to try making a sampler and here we are! I really enjoyed designing and stitching this! Harvest mice are the cutest little critters! They can perch on the more delicate of plants! Find this design on my (extremely affordable) patreon until September 15, 2024. I hope you check me out! https://www.patreon.com/badstitch

The APL is such an amazing resource.
if you like crafting and also free things, might i suggest the antique pattern library?
it’s a not for profit that’s gathering books, patterns, and other materials related to crafting that are out of copyright (or getting permission from copyright holders in some cases) in order to share them online. they scan items, clean them up, then make everything available for free!
free things are great, especially when you’re just starting to get into something. like oh, i’m supposed to spend money on this hobby i just picked up 20 minutes ago???
the first time i ended up on the site, i seriously spent hours just trawling through everything. there’s the usual suspects like knitting, crochet, embroidery, but there’s also woodwork, calligraphy, and books on things like how to mount and frame pictures. with cross stitch patterns, they also make modern charts with the dmc colour codes available.
links to their webbed site and instagram:

behold, a glorious cat cross stitch pattern (link goes to antique pattern library page):
