It's been a funny old start to the year! This time last year I was up to ears in seagulls! Now I'm busy with Booby Birds! I'm struggling to get to grips with the new year (and we're already a month and a third in) and have been a little withdrawn while I focus on my latest project/building my new website/recover from the events of December. My instinct is to do everything all at once but I'm trying to be methodical! With that in mind I'm having a day to do my household chores and try and recuperate and do a little planning for next week. It's been all seagulls all week! After a massive push I'm down to my last 30 parcels but it turns out I can't count so have a few more babies I need to make before I can finish... so close to the finish line! Minor panic when I realised I hadn't printed a bunch of labels but a quick scan thru my records and I worked out who hadn't been sorted yet! Ending tonight... maybe I'll finally get to eat some fish and chips in peace now! Or maybe not... I'll be making over 100 adult seagulls and their babies, that's a lot of chips! I've been really enjoying Flock, my seagull project, part of the reason is I've been learning about all the different types of gull and I got to dig out some of my favourite bird books! My vintage bird book collection is pretty extensive, these books are published by Octopus and whenever I see them I have to get them! Black headed gull... otherwise known as the Little Gull. Doesn't always have a black head! Or indeed a black head... it is in fact a dark chocolate brown during breeding season. 200 proto-seagulls ready to get legs! I'm champing at the bit to get making seagulls so I went ahead and ordered my materials... my wool should come soon as well and then I'm set! There's just over 2 weeks left in the Seagull project and I plan on making felted versions of all 6 common British gulls and chicks - herring gulls, mew(common) gulls, greater and lesser black backed gulls, black headed gulls and kittiwakes. Baby seagulls have one job in this world and it mostly involves standing on the roof going "Phweeee" all night Phweeeee!
