Last week I mentioned the one oddball dinosauriform that had crocodilian-like osteoderm armor, so let's take a look at that one too.
Lewisuchus admixtus lived in what is now northwest Argentina during the late Triassic, around 236-234 million years ago. About 1m long (3'3"), it was an early member of the silesaurids – a group of dinosauriforms that weren't quite dinosaurs themselves, but were very closely related to the earliest true dinosaurs.
(They've also been proposed as instead being early ornithisichians, but we're not getting into that today.)
Much like its later silesaurid relatives Lewisuchus had a long neck and slender limbs, and was probably mainly quadrupedal, possibly with the ability to briefly run bipedally to escape from threats. Its serrated teeth suggest it was carnivorous, likely feeding on both smaller vertebrates and the abundant insects found in the same fossil beds.
Uniquely for an early dinosauriform it also had a single row of bony osteoderms running along its spine. Although it lived at close to the same time as the similarly-armored Mambachiton their last common ancestor was at least 10 million years earlier, and no other early dinosaur precursors with osteoderms are currently known – so this was probably a case of Lewisuchus independently re-evolving the same sort of feature.

John Hancock is sooo funny. Like to me personally. He's like if you played Skyrim and went to Riften, met the Jarl, and after doing 1 side quest to ROB said Jarl they were like "hey, I'm coming with you"
And if you even try to be like "what about the town?" He's like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ "don't care. It'll still be standing when I get back. Or it won't. Whatever." And he fills your little wasteland travels with deflective sarcasm.
And then you fall in love.

VOTE FIRST BEFORE READING BELOW. REACH INTO YOUR HEART AND VOTE FOR WHAT YOU REALLY WANT!
Warning: I chose violence everyday and I'm your passive aggressive friend who cares for you.
I'm giving you White Head Ribbon because... My girl, my boy, my enby baby, my bothsie, treat this as a wake up call. You need restraint. You need to start creating a list of principles that you think would turn you into your dream self, and stop doing things based on short term pleasure. I know I can't stop you for most as you have ADHD and/or autism, but the more you cater to your short term whims, the more you hate yourself. You also need the silence and peace in the cloud recesses. You may not know it, but your soul has been craving for some alone time. Seclude yourself in Hanshi if you want, just let your soul rest for a while.
I'm giving you a clarity bell because... You've been empathizing with people for so long that I wish for you to get out of the muddy puddle that is other people's problem and get back to your own energy. My sad baby empath... it's okay to say no. You've been in the Empathy ritual for so long, and a lot of people have been telling you to get out of it, the friend that you have been empathizing with is long dead, just a walking corpse who only see you as a free therapist, nothing else. They don't even want to change. You need this bell, boo. Clang clang clang or whatever.
I'm giving you a Vermillion Mark because... I want you to be proud of yourself for once. Acknowledge your hard work and credentials, stop brushing them off as "only", because I need you to bag that promotion and/or RESPECT FROM EVERYBODY, as what you deserve. Oh, you think you're not actually that good? Your achievements are nothing?? Well, I want you to get over your imposter syndrome because Su She was out there creating his own sect by being a pretentious wannabe!!! He has no skills and is only a steve jobs fanatic! You?! You have real skills. Wear this vermillion mark and show them! Jin Ling was bullied all his life by mere nobodies but he knew from day one that he's the GOAT. And always remember that you have someone who will fight alongside you, who will break their legs if they hurt you.
I'm giving you a Fan with Paintings in it because... I want you to follow your dreams. You may be raised in a family or culture where you are assumed to follow a certain path. Be relentless that you are living your life. The point of life is to be enjoyed, not to be someone else's puppet, ain't no way! And don't worry about where your life will lead you. You are smart and scheming, you know your subject. You will lead a fruitful life wherever you go. Stop living your life to get someone else's validation. Actually do things that make you happy. You deserve a life worth living.
I'm giving you a Bamboo Flute because... You need to practice necromancy, lol. Use the dead for your own goals... Stop a war or plant some vegetbales... Haha i think, um, idk the agressiv spirit guide who was ghost writing through me just fled to get some pizza she ain't coming back haha. Research about shadow work (it's an actuall clinical thingy) and rise above the challenges. Come back with the coolest fashion statement. Stop being a people pleaser and start being an feared entity. OVERCOME YOUR MEASLY HUNAN CONDITIONS AND BECOME A DEMONIC CULTIVATIR! Wei Wuxian did not die and came back to life to orove nothing!
#warnjnf i am chose violence everyday#I don't know what came over me#I have no rights to give advice and yet here I am#but I believe#that whatever you chose#you need it now#yey#mxtx mdzs#mo dao zu shi#lan wangji#lan xichen#jiang cheng#nie huaisang#jin ling#wei wuxian#clarity bell#lan head ribbon#nie huaisang's fan#chenqing#poll#polls#I'm testing out polls becase data science is my passion

I'm not an extrovert. At all. In everyday life, I'm a yapper, sure, but I need someone to first assure me I am okay to yap, so I don't start conversations, even when I really want to join in sometimes! It's just the social anxiety acting up. God knows where from and why I lose a lot of my inhibitions when it comes to talking to people about music. I don't know where the confidence has suddenly sprung from. I've made a crazy amount of friends in musical circles, either just talking to people about common music or (since it is after all in music circles) talking to bands about their own music. I let out a sigh of relief any time an interaction goes well, because in truth it's going against my every instinct. I wish I could do that in everyday life
#like that's the point where we need to remind everyone around me that as much as I say#radio is 'a job'-- it's not 'my job' lol. I wish I was this interested in data science#but like. Honestly?? I'm not even a data scientist!? I answered a few questions about classical AI having come from a computer science back#background and now people are saying to me 'I know you're a data scientist and not a programmer' sir I am a computer scientist#what are you on about#and like I guess I get to google things and they're paying me so I'm not complaining but like I am not a data scientist#my biggest data scientist moment was when I asked 'do things in data science ever make sense???' and a bunch of data scientists went#'no :) Welcome to the club' ???????#why did I do a whole ass computer science degree then. Does anyone at all even want that anymore. Has everything in the realm of#computer science just been Solved. What of all the problems I learned and researched about. Which were cool. Are they just dead#Ugh the worst thing the AI hype has done rn is it has genuinely required everyone to pretend they're a data scientist#even MORE than before. I hate this#anyway; I wish I didn't hate it and I was curious and talked to many people in the field#like it's tragicomedy when every person I meet in music is like 'you've got to pursue this man you're a great interviewer blah blah blah'#and like I appreciate that this is coming from people who themselves have/are taking a chance on life#but. I kinda feel like my career does not exist anymore realistically so unless 1) commercial radio gets less shitty FAST#2) media companies that are laying off 50% of their staff miraculously stop or 3) Tom Power is suddenly feeling generous and wants#a completely unknown idiot to step into the biggest fucking culture show in the country (that I am in no way qualified for)#yeah there's very very little else. There's nothing else lol#Our country does not hype. They don't really care for who you are. f you make a decent connection with them musically they will come to you#Canada does not make heroes out of its talent. They will not be putting money into any of that. Greenlight in your dreams.#this is something I've been told (and seen) multiple times. We'll see it next week-- there are Olympic medallists returning to uni next wee#no one cares: the phrase is 'America makes celebrities out of their sportspeople'; we do not. Replace sportspeople with any public professi#Canada does not care for press about their musicians. The only reason NME sold here was because Anglophilia not because of music journalism#anyway; personal

This is a shameless pitch for my field of work but if you like biology and you like coding...consider bioinformatics as a career 👀 Especially if you live in the US, as it's well-known for its bionformatics scene.
#musings#bioinformatics#stem#computer science#python#biology#i was just thinking about how not a lot of people know that a career like bioinformatics exists#hence my little post#most people i tell my job too just look at me confused like they didnt realize you could mix these fields#and a lot of people studying biology forget about how important it is to have a quantitative skill like math or computer science or physics#simply because the programs dont teach those skills#to do any sort of custom data analysis its important to have quantitative skills#and if you're passionate about genomics especially...and dna and the genome...then this may be the field for you!#good money especially in the states#of course a graduate degree is needed#masters minimum phd preferred#i have a masters

this is yet another random academia nitpick i won’t let go of for weeks but someone in the comments of the victor ninov broccumentary claimed that science is a “incredible field that can’t be simplified to storytelling like this” because “it goes against human nature to do” and writing good sci comm goes against scientific integrity.
and the whole statement is incredibly stupid but in true anthropologist fashion i must say what on earth about science goes against human nature. the desire to test a phenomenon and revise your theories based on the results is literally one of the benchmarks for early modern humans. this is the behavior in corvid’s (tool use) that people loose their shit over. communicating findings to others?? collaborative work to reach an arbitrary goal that won’t necessarily have a direct benefit on your immediate life???? that’s how we domesticated staple crops dumbass. it’s science all the way down
#look i know i am Biased to qualitative research and can and have debated engineering folks over the need to understand that human expression#in an field cannot be summarized into qualitative data without ignoring important factors#(the categorizing tells us more about the *researcher’s* perspective than the subjects. sorry i’ve spent too long doing ethnography around#human factors / psych people. i’m so glad i escaped)#BUT. EVEN I WILL ACKNOWLEDGE TRADITIONAL EXPERIMENTAL SCIENCE HAS A WELL DEVELOPED AND DESERVED PLACE#AND ITS AN EXTREMELY HUMAN EXPRESSION#i have also debated the validity of human nature as a concept#<- anthropologist behavior. but regardless what the fuck is the point of this statements#‘science is hard because it’s unintuitive for the human brain’ clearly you know jackshit about the human brain or any of history#and that’s because you’re too obsessed with science and ignore the wonders of humanity.#you cannot take the science out of the humanity you cannot take the humanity out of the conduct of science#text✨

What Are the Qualifications for a Data Scientist?
In today's data-driven world, the role of a data scientist has become one of the most coveted career paths. With businesses relying on data for decision-making, understanding customer behavior, and improving products, the demand for skilled professionals who can analyze, interpret, and extract value from data is at an all-time high. If you're wondering what qualifications are needed to become a successful data scientist, how DataCouncil can help you get there, and why a data science course in Pune is a great option, this blog has the answers.
The Key Qualifications for a Data Scientist
To succeed as a data scientist, a mix of technical skills, education, and hands-on experience is essential. Here are the core qualifications required:
1. Educational Background
A strong foundation in mathematics, statistics, or computer science is typically expected. Most data scientists hold at least a bachelor’s degree in one of these fields, with many pursuing higher education such as a master's or a Ph.D. A data science course in Pune with DataCouncil can bridge this gap, offering the academic and practical knowledge required for a strong start in the industry.
2. Proficiency in Programming Languages
Programming is at the heart of data science. You need to be comfortable with languages like Python, R, and SQL, which are widely used for data analysis, machine learning, and database management. A comprehensive data science course in Pune will teach these programming skills from scratch, ensuring you become proficient in coding for data science tasks.
3. Understanding of Machine Learning
Data scientists must have a solid grasp of machine learning techniques and algorithms such as regression, clustering, and decision trees. By enrolling in a DataCouncil course, you'll learn how to implement machine learning models to analyze data and make predictions, an essential qualification for landing a data science job.
4. Data Wrangling Skills
Raw data is often messy and unstructured, and a good data scientist needs to be adept at cleaning and processing data before it can be analyzed. DataCouncil's data science course in Pune includes practical training in tools like Pandas and Numpy for effective data wrangling, helping you develop a strong skill set in this critical area.
5. Statistical Knowledge
Statistical analysis forms the backbone of data science. Knowledge of probability, hypothesis testing, and statistical modeling allows data scientists to draw meaningful insights from data. A structured data science course in Pune offers the theoretical and practical aspects of statistics required to excel.
6. Communication and Data Visualization Skills
Being able to explain your findings in a clear and concise manner is crucial. Data scientists often need to communicate with non-technical stakeholders, making tools like Tableau, Power BI, and Matplotlib essential for creating insightful visualizations. DataCouncil’s data science course in Pune includes modules on data visualization, which can help you present data in a way that’s easy to understand.
7. Domain Knowledge

idk what the ettiquette is for liking posts people have made about the show. I wanna encourage you to yell about it!! i make the shows for this very purpose!! please yell!! but i worry that my tendency to go through the notes like 'yes good' may be slightly off putting.
#this is not a situation previous internet ettiquette knowledge can prepare you for#all i have to go on is 'how would i feel if the creator of i thing i like liked a post i made about it'#the answer is that i would feel absolutely feral but#i'm also aware i'm not necessarily a very good representative sample#a sample size of one is a poor sample size too#i need more statics#where's the data on this#science is really letting me down

trying to coax myself into working on my programming practice stuff by relating it to pacific rim. come onnnn you can graph the kaiju attacks! like hermann!
wait wait shit ok it wasnt working because the wiki is the only place i can pull data from rn & the dates on the wiki suck, but actually. i had a new idea. could put them on there and graph hermann's prediction next to them and from there reverse-engineer the timing of kaiju attacks that aren't specified anywhere. maybe. idk if the math works out. i can at least make cool graphs
#adventures in programming#i am aware that this is The Most Nerd Shit Ever but whatever. whatever it's fine. learning data vis sucks#i have to make it tolerable somehow#im probably going to end up working on the thing i was already working on tbh like ill open R and be like#this is less effort than pulling dates from the stupid wiki#....ok but what if i graphed the attacks and the predictive model and wrote it up like an actual data science report#does that count as fanart lmao#downside is id put a lot of effort into an R project i could then Never Ever show off to potential employers#lest they find my blog#but i think kaiju graphs are too nerdy anyway and i need the practice#unscientific aside#i might be a parody of myself but it's fine

In happier life news, my company is letting do some experiments and acquire some preliminary data to apply for a seed grant to study the disease my mom has been which is really cool!! And the unrelated collaboration with my husband’s postdoc lab is going well. Doing cool science yeehaw.
#using company resources to further my own needs? hell yes#and also still do some good ducking science along the way? HELL yeah#the seed grant is tiny but it’s enough to get more prelim data that might help us get a partnership w a company that works on this disease#which would be so cool
