Chris Cornell's final album before his passing, 2015's Higher Truth, feels like a soulful summary of his solo career. There are parts that harken back to Euphoria Morning both in sound and lyrical content, strong acoustic elements of Carry On, and even some of the divisive R&B/Pop sounds from Scream come into play in the background. It's a strong album that would play equally well love acoustically or electronically, and you can really hear that Chris poured a little piece of himself into every track, culminating in an album that was definitively him. Retrospective as it feels, it doesn't leave a sense of finality, nor was it meant to, and that makes his overdose all the more tragic; it feels as though it would have been the start of something new for Chris, at a time when he was playing with Soundgarden again, an Audioslave reunion was in the works, Temple Of The Dog celebrated an anniversary and seemed to be preparing something that we may never see now, and he would talk in interviews about how excited he was to be writing and playing as much as he was twenty years ago. It's honestly heartbreaking, the world has lost an immense talent and a truly influential musician. Listen to this album, you won't regret it. Highlight tracks include Nearly Forgot My Broken Heart, Dead Wishes, Worried Moon, Josephine, the title track, Our Time In The Universe, and Misery Chain. Available on iTunes and Spotify. So I rolled around the idea of saying something, on a more personal note, over the lose of Chris Cornell. To put it mildly, he was a cornerstone of my music-ation. My brothers Keith and Arnold, and best friend, Paula helped shape my love of music. Each, in their own ways, opened my eyes to music. Their knowledge gave me a fine tuned grasp on music, and Chris Cornell, in any band/solo performance, was someone who brought a deep passion and an unmeasurable amount of talent. He was the music. He embodied it. His voice is one of the more iconic voices in Rock. Soulful, and aggressive, sometimes both at once. It's unmistakable, and will never be duplicated. His dedication to the music is unparalleled. It never deviated, but it grew to be revered in the music world. I am glad I got to see Soundgarden. It is a memory that I will carry with me for all times. He helped so many people, from family to friend to fans. He will be missed greatly. 💔 I hope he is at peace. Rest Easy, Chris. You're memory and music will live on. You will forever have a place in my heart.
