So I was thinking more about this, and actually specifically about the Propaganda Model (PM) and then attempts to extend the PM out to entertainment (e.g., the Hollywood Propaganda Model). And I was thinking of them specifically in the context of fandom. (This is going to get a little technical. Sorry.)
The PM is a model created by Edward Herman and Noam Chomsky in the early 2000s (or at least that's when the book came out) to analyze and explain news media in the United States. Analyzing news media isn't my area of expertise and I haven't read that full paper, but the gist of it is that Herman and Chomsky argue that coverage about the U.S. gets filtered down by a number of factors to get it within the bounds of what is allowed to be expressed in the media. Those filters are "concentrated ownership, the economic importance of advertising, the centrality of the government as a source of information, the ability of the powerful to issue flak, and a dominant ideology of a superior 'us' in the West versus a backward 'them' overseas."(1)
Matthew Alford proposed a Hollywood Propaganda Model, built off of this, to attempt the same thing but with film instead of news media. He also had five filters: concentrated corporate ownership, advertising, sourcing, flak and enforcers, and anti-"other" as control mechanism.(2)
For both of these, a lot of the core to this is the idea that it's forces beyond the writers/direct creators (e.g., corporate owners, advertisers, U.S. government) who are essentially putting their fingers on the scale and either squashing or minimizing content critical of the U.S. government or its actions or pushing content positive towards the U.S. government and its actions. I don't necessarily disagree with this idea--we know for a fact that the government and especially the military plays a big role in films about the military.(3)
But I think a lot of this discounts the sentiment held by many directors, producers, and even writers that is largely positive towards the U.S. government and the military. I think a lot of the content would be pretty much within that same bounds of acceptable even without the corporate/government thumbs on the scale. For TV, I think about cop shows--Donald Bellisario and Dick Wolf, of NCIS and Law and Order fame respectively, are massive fans of the military and the police. They were going to write pro-military and pro-cop shows regardless, and their shows make up a ridiculous fraction of all of the police procedurals that have aired over the last 30 years. Maybe the fact that it's such a large fraction of what gets on air is because of the corporate thumb, but I don't think the actual pro-military/cop bent of the show is.
But also, I look at fanfiction. And even within fanfiction, it largely fits within the exact same boundaries of somewhat-critical through extremely-positive towards the U.S. and its policies as the stuff I'm seeing on TV, and it does it all without a corporate thumb on the scale.
Now, I haven't done a full study on fanfiction for this topic, and I can't say with any certainty if my instincts are correct, but I've read a lot of it, and I can't remember reading much of anything that stood out to me as particularly more critical of the U.S. government or its actions than published material. The same is true (or even maybe more true) of the self-published materials I've read, which similarly don't have those corporate, advertising, and government filters that Herman, Chomsky, and Alford talk about.
None of this is to say that they're necessarily wrong(4) but rather than I would be interested to see where fanfiction and self-published fiction falls in comparison, and also that I think that they underestimate the degree to which many people who are creating work for public consumption are relatively uncritical of the U.S. government and its actions. This is not to say that many people don't disagree with the U.S. government or actions it takes, but rather that most people don't actually see the U.S. as a "terrorist state", "rogue state", or "failed state"(5) and so aren't writing it as such not because of the corporate overlords but because of their own beliefs.
(1) From Matthew Alford's "Why Not a Propaganda Model for Hollywood"
(2) Ibid.
(3) From Alford: "At least a quarter of major 1991-2002 films depicting the application of US force received full cooperation from the Pentagon..."
(4) I disagree with some fundamental parts of what Chomsky says, including in this, but that's the subject of a different essay
(5) From Matthew Alford's book The Propaganda Model Today. The quotation marks are his--he's quoting Chomsky talking about the U.S.
If you're interested in reading about how fiction shapes people's views on and actions regarding real-world issues, this article has a decent section on it.

Cold Plasma Market Will Touch USD 5,568 Million by 2030
The total value of the global cold plasma market was USD,846 million in 2022, and it will rise at a growth rate of above 14.80% in the near future, to reach USD 5,568 million by 2030, according to P&S Intelligence. This can be credited to the profits of the cold plasma technology for a count of applications, including wound remedial, and the improvements in it.
Tumblr media
In 2022, the polymer and plastic category held the largest market share, of above 32%. This can be credited to the fact that plastic and polymer applications need solid surface adherence to get the finest mechanical functionality and extended lifespan of plastic components.
Observing the flared application of this technology in the polymer and plastic market, numerous key companies have started introducing systems and devices that permit this industry to utilize it.
Atmospheric cold plasma had the larger market share of the cold plasma market, credited to its utilization in numerous applications.
For example, it has shown promising outcomes in eczema treatment. Scientists from the Institute of Plasma Physics Chinese Academy of Sciences utilized an animal prototype to validate the possibilities of this technology in the cure of eczema with no side-effect. There is no treatment for atopic dermatitis, in simple words eczema, to date; it can be only managed with appropriate care.
In the coming few years, the wound healing category is projected to witness the highest revenue CAGR, of 15.4%. This is due to scientists having been utilizing cold plasma to accelerate the curing of exterior wounds for some time now. This method depends on making a high-voltage drop between a special device called the plasmodesma and the skin.
In 2022, North America dominated the market with the largest market share, 44%, it is projected to advance with a significant CAGR in the coming few years. This is mainly because of the surge in healthcare spending and Research and development activities.
For example, in March 2022, Jerome Canady Research Institute for Advanced Biological and Technological Sciences (JCRI-ABTS) issued a report on how a blend of the Canady Helios cold plasma and anti-BCL2A1 treatments might be helpful for patients suffering from breast cancer and other solid tumors.
Furthermore, the U.S. government has augmented its budget for cancer research. The Consolidated Appropriations Act, of 2023 has assigned USD 7.2 billion to the NCI, which was a USD 408 million rise over the FY 2022 funding, with USD 216 million for the characteristics of the Cancer Moonshot program being supervised by the NCI.
Hence, the profits of the cold plasma technology for a count of applications, including wound remedial, and the improvements in it, are the major factors driving the cold plasma market.

Abby searched around the smokey room. This was one of her favorite places to find all sorts of bits and bobs. It's where she found that epic wolf skull, the gorgeous black rose pillowcase that was currently laying in her coffin, and, of course, Bert. But this time, she wasn't here to get anything for herself. She spotted a couple boxes thrown in a pile. Weaving around the clutter, she made her way over. Each one was different but the swirly print of "Mythomagic" was printed on every one. So many choices! How could she choose? She started going through and reading descriptions.
"Do you need help?"
Abby's attention flashed to a small, pale boy who looked to be deeply regretting speaking at all.
"Yeah," Abby admitted. "It's for a friend. I am doing this for a local children's hospital. Getting stuff for some of the kids' birthdays. There's a girl that is really into card games like this. Do you know anything about this game?"
The boy hesitated for a moment before slowly opening up.
"If she's a beginner, go for the standard Olympian deck. It provides a good amount of basic instruction and application, sticking to the basics. It doesn't get complicated but still allows the player to make some flexible plays. The hero pack is way more complicated and is harder to customize, though an experienced player can really dominate using them. If the girl loves continuously long math problems, that deck is perfect. The expansion packs are for more experienced players looking for special customizations or who are playing challenges. I'd advise focusing on mastering the basics first, getting used to the standard packs."
Abby smiled. "You really know a lot about this game!"
The boy wrinkled his nose. "I used to play it when I was a kid."
"Well, thanks for helping me, um…"
The boy gave her a look-over. "It's Nico."
"I'm Abby. Thanks a bunch, Nico."
Nico twisted a jar in his hands. "It's no problem."
He shifted and, for a moment, Abby swore she something clipped to his side. It disappeared when he moved to leave. Her gut tingled.
"So, Nico," Abby said, feeling victorious when the boy turned back around to her, "What are you searching for in here?"
Nico lifted a brow and held up the jar. "I'm no longer searching."
Abby became genuinely interested. "What do you use that for?"
Nico's sigh sounded of defeat. "I'm looking for... a friend."
"They're lost?"
"He's always lost," the kid was quick to snark but recomposed himself with another glance at who he was talking to. "More like he's missing."
"And you think Misty's Freeze-Dried Tuna will help?"
His shoulders drooped. "It's a stupid idea," he said.
"Is he a dolphin or something?" Abby joked, trying to perk up the gloomy boy. Of course, you should never feed a dolphin Freeze-Dried anything.
Oddly enough, the boy looked to seriously consider it. "Well," he drawled, "If the shoe fits."
Abby thought about that. She guessed Sister Alba's laugh sounded Dolphin-like, especially when she got a strike. Still, Abby was confused. She jolted as her phone dinged. It was Tim. There was another case. Another body. She had to get back to headquarters.
She glanced back up. "It was good to meet you, Nico, and thanks again for helping me out. I hope you find your friend."
Nico shuffled to the door. "Thanks."
"And by the way, sweet Bomber."
Nico smiled and slipped out.
Abby stared at the closing door. Right there, as Nico left, she saw it. It was slid into a black sheath hanging on his hip. That kid was walking around with a three-foot-long sword!
-Ντόναλντ-
Ducky stared down at the poor man who now occupied the autopsy table. Gibbs would want answers soon. As Ducky worked on opening the body, he dutifully educated his young assistant.
"…Indeed, if troops would stay long enough in an area, it had the potential to grow into a village. Many modern villages- hold it steady, Mr. Palmer- in the Middle East are there because of U.S. forces. Troops provide protection and also quickly build secure, structured bases. If left- hand me the scalpel- long enough, the local population will start settling down, populating the area, and expand, making a place for themselves to stay. This isn't a new phenomenon. It has been happening- a clamp, if you would- since ancient times. In fact, many English cities are thought to have been created due to Roman Military camps, such as…" Ducky wavered.
Roman?
"Doctor?"
Ducky looked back at the tattoo on the victim's forearm. SPQR. Senātus Populusque Rōmānus. Could this man be?
"Doctor Mallard?"
Ducky blinked.
"Oh, yes. My apologies, Mr. Palmer. I was just thinking that- er- you should give these shrapnel pieces to Abigail."
"Now, Doctor? We aren't done with the procedure."
"I can handle it just fine, Mr. Palmer. Don't you worry. You know how Abigail gets. I don't want her rushing to call me for more work."
Jimmy chuckled, and Ducky forced one out, too.
Making sure that Jimmy was off in the elevator, Ducky hurried to his desk.
If his hypothesis was correct…
He went back to the body and made a small mark on the shoulder.
Oh, dear.
He examined the cut he made with the Celestial Bronze dagger.
He would have to tell Jethro. Immediately.
-Λέρωι-
Jethro got off the phone with Ducky. Hopefully, there wasn't anything supernatural related to the victim's cause of death. They would have to prepare for the possibility anyway. He sank in his chair. Wonderful.
Out of the corner of his eye, he spied McGee loitering in the middle of the bullpen. He refrained from rolling his eyes.
"What is it, McGee?"
"Um, Boss?" Gibbs mentally shook his head. Tim really needed to outgrow his timidness. "I just got a new e-mail from- uh- Agent- er- Anne Lima."
Jethro snapped to attention. McGee jumped. "I just, you know, thought you should, well, be aware, and…"
Jethro opened his own e-mail. He had one, too. Jethro guessed she must have sent it to all four of them.
He was proven correct as Ziva said, "Gibbs, I've also been contacted." Tony responded in kind, too.
"McGee," Jethro interrupted the rambling, "Put it up."
"Right." McGee scrambled over and soon had the message up on the plasma.
There was a moment of silence as they all read.
"What do we do, Boss?" Tony asked.
Jethro looked at his team, all eyes on him and ready to follow his orders.
"We have a missing Agent. Find him."

Aah hello, I’m super excited to be joining you all and I can’t wait to start plotting with everyone. My name is Liv and I’m pretty much trash for everything about sci-fi, fantasy and pretty much any other genre you could throw at me. I’m English, I like tea, dogs, I’m 19 and currently at uni studying sports therapy (yay medicine).
I tend to use skype more often for chatting and plotting mostly just because it messes up less than tumblr so if you want to add me there just ping my a message and I’ll give you my username but I’ll plot over tumblr too if that’s what you’d prefer. I’m very chill about everything so no need to rush replies. I also ramble a lot, like it’s kind of ridiculous how much I can ramble. Anyway, I’m just going to put some background about my sweet cinnamon child who tries to help all the people because he’s nice like that under the cut and if you’d like to plot please feel free to hmu. \O/

H I S T O R Y ;
Life was relatively normal for Zach; born the only child of the Stryder family he was loved and cared for like any child. Even when his power manifested at quite a young age they loved him all the same, though they thought that since he was only displaying minor capabilities there was no real harm in keeping him at home. Over time and with practise his powers continued to grow in strength until one fateful day the event that would change his life occurred. After a particularly intense argument with a neighbour he accidentally tripped a blackout across his home-town and the surrounding ones.
The Stryder family knew it was only a matter of time before organisations connected the dots and came to try and collect young Zachary and take him away before anything more severe occurred, but little did they realise that Zach’s abilities had already been picked up by scouts for a faction of elitist mutants who wished to recruit him for their cause. He was after all, incredibly powerful for his age and still had plenty of time to grow this power and in an age of growing technological warfare his abilities were considered indispensable.
The day of the blackout was when it was finally decided to extract him for the cause. Unfortunately for the mutants sent to collect their prize, Zach’s parents (his mother already being a former student) had already been in contact with the Academy about potentially having him transferred there or even a mentor being assigned for his own safety. The attempt to kidnap him went south; his mother being killed in the chaos and his father severely injured, ultimately leading to the decision for Zachary to be transferred from England to the Lynx Academy where he has since lived since he was in his early teens. An odd case in comparison to most. Zach is incredibly apt at engineering, electronics and designing gadgets mostly wishing to simply make both his and everyone else’s around him more easier.
P E R S O N A L I T Y ;
Zach in a nutshell is an attractive nerd, he’s intelligent, friendly and has a great sense of humour; which makes it hard for people to not like him. He is a known prankster more often than not being up to some mischief with his friends around the Academy. Despite his intelligence Zach is rather socially awkward resulting in episodes of technical and science babble when he feels nervous. Even though he is prone to mischievous tendencies he is an incredibly hard worker; wanting to succeed and often putting himself under immense pressure to get things done to perfection.
He isn’t the strongest person on the island and he knows it, but he makes up for it with his brave attitude and quick thinking making use of anything around him to get out of a bad situation or help people out. He is strongly opposed to anti-mutant agendas though is fully aware he isn’t really going to be any help on a battlefield and thus aspires to be as useful as possible off of it in the engineering and technical department.
- Here’s just some general rping things - Here’s some stuff on his powers - Here’s some connections I’d love to get

The hope that the next day might be better than the one before. What frightens this character? A fear of failure is probably the strongest thing that Zach feels afraid of. What makes this character happy? Chocolate, pizza, music, dancing and building things is a definite thing that makes him happy. Is the character judgmental of others? Not very unless they do something really stupid then he can’t help but judge a little though otherwise he tries to be as non-judgemental as he possibly can. Everyone deserves a chance or two in his opinion.

Nervous tics: Pushes his hand through his hair and fidgeting.

Peptide Cancer Vaccine Market to Partake Significant Development by 2025
Vaccines are biological products which stimulate the immune system of the body to protect the body against foreign substances. The stimulated immune system destroys foreign body and remembers it. Vaccines work on the principle of memorizing a foreign particle and prevents it from invading the body in the future. Cancer vaccines are medicines categorized as biological response modifiers. These modifiers work by stimulating the immune system to fight against the disease. Increase in prevalence of chronic diseases such as cancer and failure of conventional methods to treat the disease effectively have led to the demand for a new immunotherapy-based treatment. Different types of cancer immunotherapy include monoclonal-based immunotherapy, dendritic cell-based vaccines, antibody-drug conjugates, and peptide-based cancer vaccines. Among these, peptide-based cancer vaccine is widely used due to effective mechanism, easy manufacturing process, and user-friendly nature of the product. Peptide cancer vaccines are used to treat solid tumors and under certain clinical research protocols. Peptide cancer vaccines act by creating T-cell immune response against the tumor present in the body or by enhancing pre-existing immunity against the tumor.
The World Health Organization reported around 14 million cases of cancer and 8.2 million deaths caused by the disease in 2012. Among these, the common cases pertained to lung, colorectal, prostate, cervical, and breast cancers. Thus, there is a significantly high demand for vaccines to prevent and treat cancer, which is driving the growth of the Peptide Cancer Vaccine Market. Numerous clinical trials are undergoing by NCI- supported cancer prevention or treatment for different types of cancer using vaccines. Increase in the pool of cancer patients, technological advancements, new drug development in the field of cancer, rise in government support, growth of geriatric population, and enduring effect of peptide cancer vaccine and its specificity are the drivers of the peptide cancer vaccine market. However, shortage of cancer vaccines in remote areas and the need for special storage facility and transportation are the restraints of the peptide cancer vaccines market.

What is Steampunk?
http://karenjcarlisle.com/2017/03/19/what-is-steampunk/
Last month, for Steampunk Hands Around the World, I posted about how steampunk had enriched my life. I spoke of the diversity and inclusivity of steampunk, how it fired my imagination and inspired me to search for the wonder in the world and how its whimsical nature has helped with my anxiety. Recently I spoke to someone who asked me what exactly is steampunk? I thought I’d revisit a post which explains about:
The Steam, the Punk and the Writing.
The first appearance of the word steampunk was in Locus Magazine in 1987. The term was coined by SF author K W Jeter to define specific speculative fiction works and is a tongue-in-cheek variant on cyberpunk.
What is Steampunk?
The simplest definition of steampunk is to describe it as Victorian science fiction. To elaborate: Victorian: set in the 19th century, with the science fiction element containing modern technology powered by steam.
In reality steampunk is more complex. It is a creative movement re-imagining analog technologies, mechanics and inventions – powered by steam – and set in the industrialised 19th century. It now encompasses not only fiction, but art, fashion, music, cinema/TV and fandom.
The Steam – The essence of steampunk can be described as an imagined alternate history or future where electricity and petroleum technologies did not dominate, and where steam/ geared, analog technology gave rise to its own versions of modern technology.
The Punk – a philosophy of bucking the system, going against the convention to declare an individuality in style, attitude and gadgets. In a way steampunk is a rebel with a cause – to be free of the norm.
One of my favourite definitions comes from the TV show Castle (Episode: Punked) “…a subculture that embraces the simplicity and romance of the past but at the same time couples it with the hope and promise and sheer super coolness of futuristic design.”
As a writing genre, it is a sub genre of science fiction and fantasy; steampunk is now listed as a separate sub-genre on Amazon and Goodreads. It can contain fantasy, horror or historical aspects. It is usually written as alternative history or alternative fantasy.
Steampunk stories are often set in 19th century Western civilizations, such as Victorian England (or the Wild West) where there was a rapid urbanisation and expansion of Empires, a plethora of inventions and scientific discoveries, telecommunication and the rise of mechanised manufacturing and industry.  Recently more stories have been set in Asia or Africa. Steampunk has also crossed over into other genres such as YA, Romance, Erotica and with Gothic/paranormal crossovers such as Gaslamp.
There is sometimes a fine line between Victorian (historical) era and steampunk novels. There is no rule to how many steampunk elements need to be incorporated into a story; it can be subtle or over reaching, creating a very blurred line in some cases.
Steampunk has increased in popularity over the past decade. There are books on writing the genre and even an article on How to Write Steampunk in Writing Magazine.  It has infiltrated into mainstream media and fashion. Steampunk inspired fashion featured in the Fall 2012 line from Prada, Retro G Couture.
Icons and Idiosyncrasies:
Steampunk often includes the following:
Goggles are probably the most recognisable steampunk icon. They are often found used in pastimes – eg. driving, inventing, mechanics etc. now commonly seen in the fashions and one way to help delineate from historical 19th century styles and modernity.
historical or fantasy setting/world or retro-futuristic
alternative history – 19th c industrialised setting and society,  or post apocalyptic
steam powered gadgets and machinery
gears are a familiar icon – relating to engines, pistons, wheels, mechanics.
modern inventions as envisioned with 19th century, steam-powered mechanics, eg. mechanical/analog computers
airships and dirigibles
often relaying the Victorian optimism for the future, encompassing a sense of adventure (often found) in the Empire
oh, and kraken/octopuses/squid are not uncommon, whether gigantic, mechanical or symbolic (cool – I love cephalopods)
Examples of Steampunk:
Literature – novels by HG Wells and Jules Verne. Modern novels such as William Gibson’s The Difference Engine, KW Jeter’s Infernal Devices, The Parasol Protectorate series by Gail Carriger. Graphic novels such as The League of Extraordinary Gentleman.
Movies/TV:  Captain Nemo, Steamboy, Wild, Wild West, Sherlock Holmes, Murdoch Mysteries, Warehouse 13. The steampunk theme has been used in episodes of TV shows – with varying success – like Castle (Punk’d – liked) and CSI:NY (Time Up) and NCIS: LA (Random On Purpose – disappointing).
Music: Professor Elemental, Abney Park, The Men That Will Not Be Blamed For Nothing, and The Cog is Dead – to name but a few.
Games: Bioshock II, Arcanum,
And the Writing – I have written science fiction, fantasy and even science-fiction comedy (or at least tried to). But I most enjoy writing steampunk. It meshes my long-time love of science fiction with my love of history and historical re-enactment. I can identify with the steampunk philosophies of creativity, decoration, self-reliance and the Victorian optimism for the future – even in the face of danger, and dastardly deeds.
I often find a delicious contradiction between the passions and machinations that are concealed beneath the expected manners of Victorian society. I love the rampant enthusiasm for new adventures, scientific discoveries and inventions. Steampunk allows me to rewrite history to allow my female characters to exert themselves, to rebel against the conformity present in history. There are so many possibilities I can write – political intrigue, murder, mystery, myth and magic, treachery and adventure. And the clothing is cool too.
