NAVRATRI ( MAA DURGA PUJA )

Among the festivals of the Hindu tradition, Navratri is endowed with a great significance. It is the symbol of victory of good over evil.

The nine day festival culminates on the tenth day which is the day of victory and success. This festival also marks the symbolic journey from humanness to divinity thereby reminding people of the real goal of human life.

The chief deity adorned on these days is the feminine principle of the divinity. Therefore, all the forms of Mother Goddesses are heralded, worshiped and adorned on these days. Called as Shakti, the female energy represents the universe, while Shiva represents the consciousness or soul.

Maa Durga is the ultimate source of power who takes care of the entire universe and feeds it. The Navratri festival glorifies the eternal power of Durga and seeks her blessing and protection. As per the legend, there was a demon called Mahishasura who was a terror to all the three worlds.

As per the boons he had received, he could not be killed by any gods, humans or demons except the feminine energy, which he underestimated to be insufficient to vanquish him. To save all the worlds from his captivity, Mother Durga, assumed a terrific form and waged a war against him for nine days and killed him on the tenth day. The word Durga also means the power which destroys misery and sufferings.

A Sanskrit verse heralds Mother Durga as “Durga Dhurgati Nashini”, the one who destroys afflictions. Worshipping Mother Durga on these nine days is said to confer joy, prosperity, wealth, hope, wisdom, success and lasting happiness.

The Navratri festival is a sort of refreshing and recharging

one. Homes, educational institutions, businesses and organizations clean their premises and conduct pujas and worship on these nine days.

Charities are given away and cultural events are held. In several possible ways, divinity is worshipped and praised. The three first days are dedicated to the worship of Mother Durga, the second three days herald Mother Lakshmi and the third three days are in praise of Mother Saraswati – the three energies that rule over the universe and do the creation, sustenance and destruction.

The final day is also called as Vijayadasami on which Mother Durga won over the demon. Any tasks started on this day is said to be successful.

This puja or worship of the Ten-Handed Goddess, Goddess Durga and her children, celebrates victory of good over evil and also represents womenhood.

This is for people who don't know about this

The elephant God is Lord Ganesha, the God of Wisdom, Good luck and Removal of Obstacles. His vehicle is a mouse.

The Goddess wearing a pink saree is Goddess Lakshmi, the Goddess of Wealth and beauty. Her vehicle is an owl.

The Goddess with white skin is Goddess Saraswati, the Goddess of Arts, Music and Education. Her vehicle is a swan.

The God with black hair is Lord Kartik, the God of War. His vehicle is a peacock.

The Goddess in the middle with ten hands is Goddess Durga. She is one of the forms of the Supreme Goddess, Mahamaya, also known as the Divine Universe. She was created by all the Gods of heaven to defeat the demon, Mahishasur, and all of the Gods gave her each weapon, including her vehicle. Her vehicle is a lion.

The lion is her vehicle.

The demon who is here is Mahishasur. He's the demon who was really powerful that he conquered heaven but was killed by Goddess Durga in the process.

This festival is celebrated not only among Hindus but also among different religions and people from all over the world.

In the darkness before the seventh night, Durga Maa's fierce gaze seems to ignite.

Did you feel it last night at 01:56 UTC? The X1.8 flare, a powerful eruption from the sun's fiery sea?

I'm obsessed, intrigued, and almost forget what I'm doing,

My body seems to stray, distracted, with all my life's pursuing.

I whisper to anyone who'll hear: "She dances through each 'Nava' night!"

"But," I frantically quicken my voice, "I feel her most when I write."

She dares me to look within, transform the "ratri" of my personhood,

Telling me it's my turn to finally feel self-understood.

Typical me: my energy plummets on this holy day, As 3848 erupts in flame, a cosmic ballet.

Solar Cycle 25 plays out its celestial game, And numbers swirl in my head; there are too many to name.

There are so many to consider!! I tell her with a pleading smile,

25, 7, 9, 3848, 156, 9, 10, 34, 23, 1431 - I rattle off in my style.

But numbers are not why she battles or presents herself here,

She's here to tackle our ego, way hotter than the sun's sphere.

She tears apart thoughts that bind our darkness so tight, Guiding journeys, reminding us of lessons, showing us light.

I love how many colors and forms she takes when she's with me or when she's with you.

One of my favorites is that deep, beautiful, cosmic royal blue.

You know that color, not quite pitch black, but deeper than night?

I imagine that it could crush and destroy any ego just right.

Every year, we celebrate her victory over a demon of lore,

But I think we honor the humanity in him and his death, and more.

Of course, we revere her: stronger than any coronal mass ejection,

Indeed, more potent than any form of earthly conception. This begs the question: Is she a delusion? Is she not real? Or is she humanity's defensive maya of idealistic zeal?

Is she just a tool to pinpoint his Earthly dwelling? The ignorance, chaos, the disconnection ever swelling?

I shake my head as if to reset my point, Here, willing, ready for her to anoint.
