Military Officers
There's an infinite variety of scenes and photos of an afternoon sun casting long shadows in an interior space… and practically every single one of those images I adore. There is something nostalgic about such a scene. The prompt for the January 2022 competition in Krita-artists.org was "Military Officers." I knew I had to set my "military officers" in such an afternoon setting that I love so much.

THE DESCRIPTION OF SAINT FRANCIS OF PAOLA The Patron of Mariners and Naval Officers Feast Day: April 2
"Be converted, then, with a sincere heart. Live your life that you may receive the blessing of the Lord. Then, the peace of God our Father, will be with you always."
The founder of the Order of Minims and known as Francis the Fire Handler, he was born in Paola, Calabria, Kingdom of Naples (modern Italy) on March 27, 1416. His parents, who had been childless for so many years, named him after the founder of the Franciscan order - St. Francis of Assisi, whose intercession they had sought.
Francis retired as a hermit in a cave by the sea at the age of 16. Attracted by his holiness, many disciples followed him and formed the first community of the Order of Minims. That name was chosen to signify their desire to be considered the least in the church of God. They practiced a life of extreme austerity, sleeping on the bare ground and observing the vow of perpetual abstinence from meat.
Francis said to them: 'I earnestly admonished you, my brothers, to look after your spiritual well-being. Death is certain; life is short and vanishes like smoke.'
In 1481, Francis went to France at the request of King Louis XI (Louis the Prudent), who was slowly dying form illness. He said to the king: 'Even the lives of kings are in the hands of God, and have their appointed limits.'
Louis was not healed, but learned from him to die in peace with the Lord. His successor and his son, Charles VIII, chose the saint as his adviser, and built for him several monasteries in France and Italy.
In his final years, Francis then received the last rites and asked to have the Passion according to St. John read out to him, and whilst this was being read, he died on April 2, 1507, almost a week after his 91st birthday, in Plessis-lez-Tours, Touraine, Kingdom of France.
