I know this isn’t great timing, but this is really important...
There was a post further down on this page about Level 2-10 people with the coronavirus. As a mini-summary: 
Level 10 people are the people who are most at risk of dying from the coronavirus, or getting other very serious problems from it, like huge medical costs or problems.
Level 0 people are the people who get the coronavirus but have no symptoms (The %s would probably be similar enough across all nations: https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-06-08/coronavirus-update-world-reaches-400000-virus-deaths/12331358) The virus can also survive up to 3 hours in the air (hence the masks), up to 3 days on hard surfaces (like car door handles) and up to 24 hours on clothes- so to be extra careful with risks to vulnerable Level 2-10 people who want to live, both in your life and also with risk factors in the wider community. 
Level 1 people are people who get the coronavirus and get symptoms, but are at no risk of serious problems besides uncomfortableness. This Level is assuming people don’t have risks that are unknown to them, or that happen unexpectedly.
Level 2-10 people are the people at varying levels of risks of Level 10. For example, where do we put someone who has asthma? Where do we put someone who is older and has diabetes or heart disease but no other risk factors? 
We can’t truly know where someone is, so maybe people are in bands, like “this person is a Level 5-7 and that person is a Level 3-5″
Yes, around 40-50% of deaths are elderly people, but a lot of people who are not elderly people are scared for their lives. 
For example, some people are sole parents, or the main- or the only- breadwinners in a household, or grandparents looking after kids. They feel they really need to survive for specific reasons and they are afraid they are at high risk of dying from the coronavirus. 
Or what if you come from an background of heart disease, and you don’t think you have it, but you do have high blood pressure? And most people just want to live, regardless if they have to overcome 12 or 18 months of challenge.

I know this is a bit uncomfortable to say, but it’s really important, both 
for the reason of preventing deaths where they could have survived
and also for preventing ripples of deeper racism. 
It might be a bit uncomfortable at first, but it’s so much better to be aware of this in advance than not to be aware with something like this.

However, I do suspect that part of the reason behind the riots is people also saying, ‘we can’t live in fear forever- our vulnerable family members can’t live in fear forever- let’s alleviate the suffering by just ripping the bandaid off’- especially communities with the double impact of jobs. 
However- let’s seriously respect all of the people who are Level 2-10 and want or need to wait the full 18 months for the vaccine to live (e.g. primary breadwinners, primary carers, and primary protectors in situations of hidden domestic violence, as well as many, many, other examples). 
What can be done to protect and respect their lives? 
I think that maybe the #1 might be to make certain hours where there are never protests- e.g. 7am to 11am, 7 days a week, so that people can cross streets in a socially distanced way and do their shopping (especially the people who don’t have cars), and to also figure out how to help Level 2-10 people get home from work at 5-6, or maybe different hours in a socially distanced way. 
Just to be extra mindful of the solutions for these people, so that Level 2-10 people can avoid catching the coronavirus as long as humanly possible.
I also think that protesters need to keep coming back to the prioritised list of what they more specifically want from doing the protests...  could the protests be done more online somehow?
And also states and counties where the healthcare system is overwhelmed... for the 3%+5% who need Intensive Care beds to survive, or the other 11% who need general hospital beds- what should be done with protests in these states and counties? 
Can they move online instead of on the streets until more beds have freed up? Because these are people’s lives- they might die for no other reason than being rejected from hospital. So just keeping an eye on how close hospital beds are to e.g. 85%. 
I think the above has been the main reason that I’ve been a bit hesitant with the protests, 
although I 150% agree that black people and people of colour should not have more fear or more problems in life because of the colour of their skin.

Everyone wants people to speak from their heart on the above topic, and that’s not really my way of speaking, but I can offer some insights...
If I can be completely vulnerable, I do see a little bit of racism in me, although I’m not happy about it and have made a tonne of attempts to keep trying to evolve it into something more ethical.
I think one of the biggest causes of racism is associating black people with negative things in media, which I’ve always found really weird, frequently out of character and for that reason, I genuinely believe is an unconscious and unaware cultural habit. However, at the same time, people can’t be taught to be naive. If you’re in a rough neighbourhood with a higher percentage of violent crime, the media is doing you a favour if it teaches you to be careful. 
I think what black people would say is for the media to think about how it teaches people to be careful of different types of white people, and to apply the same standards to black people. The media’s teachings (e.g. from a movie), that people unconsciously default to can really help or really cause problems, just because people can be lazy with thinking because they’re focused on their top 5 priorities of the day. So, to associate black people with things with the same ethical standards that you associate white people with things.
And also with history, and people automatically associating the word black and darkness with bad things and light and enlightenment with good things. Yes, enlightenment as a >concept is a good thing, and the colour white does make you feel all light and airy (different colours have different emotional effects), but from now into the future, people need to be aware that people “are black” and be more thoughtful about symbolism. 
I personally love the colour black, and at the same time think black- like all of the colours- has both good and bad associations in popular culture and subjective experience. Black reminds me of stars and dreams when sleeping, and is elegant, mysterious, sure, and strong, but it can also be overbearing, heavy, lack of clarity, and childhood fears of the dark. Just like blue is good for anxiety, peaceful, clear, focused, but also without energy, cold, sleepy, clinical. And just like red is love, attraction, heart, energy, emotion, but also anxiety, annoying people, anger, overwhelming. I could do this for any colour. But people should stop putting black as the colour that is ‘bad’ too often (i.e. please share it out more equally between the colours), because it’s not ethical to black people. Past media can’t be changed (and I do genuinely believe that it was just an unconscious and unaware cultural pattern) but I think that people need to be more mindful of this in the future. 
I think another of the biggest causes is unfamiliarity- for example, when I was a child and spent years in a white neighbourhood (and I’m not actually ‘white’, I’m ethnic, so I grew up being “the other”) and a black person moved there, I was really aware of “don’t do racism, whatever that is, because it will make them feel bad and make me look like something I don’t value” but had no idea how to act with it. My dominant thought was “he seems culturally different from me”, “I don’t know how to act” and “I don’t want to hurt his feelings by accidentally acting weird”. But the other side of the familiarity thing is, I had several brown friends from different backgrounds, and because of interacting with them for ages, things were pretty natural (some more than others, as some friendships were closer than others). So I hope that is another big insight- association, friendship and direct interaction builds patterns and gets through the initial 10 or 20 or even 100 blocks of “what do I do with this sensitive and important area” much more quickly.
There’s also a piece of research on how people tend to automatically gravitate and empathise to people with superficial and deep life factors (e.g. values or similar hair) similar to them (as well as things that they need). Therefore, I’m guessing finding the areas of some shared loves (e.g. travel) or some shared joys (e.g. sports) or some shared values (e.g. let’s all be healthier) would be one of the biggest things at the foundation of the cultural part of equality. Although, as with all things, it would be an equation of shared things minus e.g. feeling problems (e.g. if you’re polar opposites on feeling things but have similar shared joys, it could still be tipped in the wrong direction).
Another thing is the biggest feeling and image associations you get from someone over minutes, days and weeks, both with them individually and with the wider social community. Let’s suppose we ignore individuality and only look at the race category... what are the first 10 things that people think about when they think of
For example, I had a friend who was a Muslim, and I automatically remember how generous and kind she was.
I had a friend who was a Bangladeshi, and I remember how warm, kind and principled she was.
I had a friend who was gay, and I remember how empathetic he was and how good he was at making people feel happy.
I had a friend who was Spanish and I remember how charismatic and interesting he was.
These are the things I automatically first think of, not only when I think of them but when I think of the overall category of these groups.
I also think of negative things like 9/11, I think about the problems Bangladesh has with flooding, I think of how worried I feel when I hear about gay people being hurt, and I think of Spain’s problem with women. So that’s one good thing and one bad thing, as well as many other in between things. For example, for Muslims, I also think of the French Muslim news, which understands both cultures and does a beautiful job of bridging them to promote understanding.
So some of the questions here would be- what are the current automatic associations different types of people might have for ordinary looking black people (not just celebrities), whether people are clumping all black categories of groups together when they should actually be distinguishing them as having these different specific traits much better, and what are the associations that you want to be going for, for different black groups? 
But not superficial forced associations, rather, the deep down ones- the ones people deeply believe, those are the ones you need to work with.
