Happy 26th birthday to the little girl pictured here. I can’t believe how much time has gone by and how fast it has gone. It feels like yesterday I brought her home from the hospital. One minute you have a baby, then *poof* you have a grown up. I still can’t get over the fact that I am a parent to adult beings.

Natalie has grown up to be a smart, beautiful, loving and kind woman. I’m awfully proud to be her mom. 

Happy birthday to my big little girl.

Get a job

...that you hate but that you need because that's what feeds you and heats the house and pays the bills. Spend every minute, every day, every week there until you wake up one day and realize that you're going to spend your life at that job you hate, doing something that you aren't passionate about or even give a shit about at all. Get out of work that day, go home and change into a pair of sweats and stare out the window for a while and realize that you ARE home, wherever you are. It IS about the roof over your head. Life is a series of failures and disappointments. It's the occasional, tiny pleasures that make it all worth it. The leaves changing. The smell of coffee brewing. The sound of the dishwasher running while you're falling asleep. Watching your child walk out of school and look around for you. Birds. Dogs. Being up before sunrise. The perfect song coming on at the perfect time. If I could go back and tell my twenty year old self anything about anything, I would tell him to quit looking around for things that are right in front of his nose.

so awesome to set major goals for yourself. but you should consider some more basic things that only seem basic until you think about them, too. like thinking about your senses while they’re not being used, or just fuckin being young while you can.

Thank you!!! The major goals are so much easier to think about than the basic ones that fill up life. Hopefully I think of more as time goes on.

If you notice when you go to Starbucks, most employees wear green aprons. But a select few wear black aprons. Those aprons say “coffee master” on them and that means the employee has studied their ass off and worked hard to get certified as a coffee master.

Natalie got her black apron this week and I’m really proud of her. Starbucks is only a second job to her - she works there only one day a week now since she started her other full time job - but she put so much time into getting her coffee master and showed so much passion for it. She set a goal and went for it and she accomplished it. It’s pretty much the way she attacks everything. 

So congratulations to my coffee master daughter. Go show off that apron. Good job, Nat (and coworker, whose actual name is Harley Davidson).

Truthful Tuesday

Natalie is coming over soon so we can watch a movie and snuggle.  There is nothing else I would rather do tonight.  She makes me so happy and she's so cute I can't handle it sometimes.

Thanks for reminding me that I’ve been wanting to add a favorite part tag to my Harry Potter post from this morning! And I also very much appreciate that you’ve been keeping it up. :)

I'm approximately twice your age, which is well beyond the cut-off point of being able to respond "That's what she said" without coming across as Creepy Old Guy.

So I definitely won't do that.

That reminds me, I still need to see the last Harry Potter movie… although someone ruined the ending my telling me that Voldemort was actually Harry's father and that he had actually been dead the entire time he was secretly tunneling out of that prison using his sled Rosebud only to find that Hermoine's head was in a box which Keyser Söze had cut off right before he was killed by his gay/self-loathing neighbor who shot him in the head, except the it was all a setup and he actually committed suicide to point out the inherent flaws in the death penalty even in "obvious" cases.
