Hey, requesting a ramble; given the chance what singular thing would you change about Fairy Tale as a show?

What would you change about the fandom?

Blessed with the ability to ramble I'm gonna answer these out of order because one I want to actually go off about and the other I'm trying so hard not to be too negative with.

The fandom itself, I'm surprised to find, is still alive. Mostly for the manga, 100 Year Quest, and the Gajeel spin off apparently. Super cool love that for y'all.

But I think the general Fairy Tail fandom is very... Boring?

I don't want to be mean! Everyone has the right to enjoy fandom however they want of course! This is an attack on no one! Live your life! I love and respect you so much!!

Just like. 90% of the active fandom are infatuated with Natsu/Lucy exclusively, which I don't get at all. Coming from My Hero Academia, I saw how big the cast of this program was and really expected everyone to have their little Blorbo guy with their own niche content. Blurry screen caps and low quality images with "There he is the scrimblo!!" kind of nonsense.

Instead the entire place only cares about the Main Guys Smooching. There's no crack ships, there's no Tono Rabbits Stan accounts, there's no Some Gremlin Blorbo from my shows background character lovers and it's Really jarring?? And boring. Y'all boring.

If I could change anything about the fandom, I'd ask y'all to pick A Guy (gender neutral) and go rabid for them. There's so many guys of so many types in this program. Please fawn over someone other than the main 7.

Really I want to change a LOT about the program itself. The execution, the treatment of most female characters, everything with Lisanna, the lore behind Magic, the Morals behind Magic. There's a lot to unpack here.

But if I absolutely had to pick one thing to change it's be the character's ages.

I found out recently that Mirajane is 19 in canon. Cana is 18. The oldest woman in the Guild before the 7 year time skip was Evergreen at 20. TWENTY. That's how old Bisca is when she gives birth to Asuka!! (roughly. Asuka doesn't have a canon age but she's somewhere between 5-6 based on how she acts)

I'm twirling this show's timeline on a fork like Spaghetti these girls are going to be 20+ and you're going to like it.

Here's my rough concept so far (this is for the beginning of the series, the wiki list their ending ages, after the two different 1 year time skips and the 7 year stasis)

I want to make Natsu the oldest of the dragon raised dragon slayers, but still roughly the same age as Grey. I'm thinking 23 or 24 for the both of them, with Gajeel close behind at 22, and Laxus just ahead at 25 or 26.

Lucy I want to be the youngest current member, so she can stay at 17-18, but I also want Erza to be young compared to the Raised By The Guild squad, so she's 19, maybe? Levy's 20-21, Cana's 23, and Juvia is 19-20, like Erza.

Mira gets the most change because I just think she should be pushing 30, maybe 27 or 28. Elfman about 3 or 4 years younger at 24 or 25, to keep him Grey/Natsu aged. Lisanna has about the same age gap, 3 or 4 years, making her somewhere between 20 and 22.

I really jangled up the Thunder Legion because apparently Bickslow is the oldest at 22 in canon. He's still 22 in this version but now he's the Thunder Baby. I wanted to keep Freed around the same age as Laxus, so 25, and Evergreen the same age as Mira, maybe a tad younger at 26-27. I like the idea of Bickslow being the youngest anyway, he's big but young and it fits with his personality. I'm tempted to make him 18, but your 20's are age of being dumb anyway so it's fine.

Macao and Wakaba are in their mid 30's at the beginning of the series, Reedus in his early 30's on par with Mira maybe older, with Warren, Max, and Mest all near mid 20's I think. I don't have exact numbers for them because I don't really know if they're meant to be Natsu's peers or not, but they all seem pretty young and stupid. Jet and Droy are the same-ish age as Levy, 20-22, with Jet being a year younger than them.

Wendy's hard because apparently she's 12 when we meet her, but she doesn't change at all in the next 2 years, which simply isn't how being on the cusp of puberty works. But I don't have as much wiggle room as I do with everyone else sense she's at the stage where she should be growing a lot so I'll just keep her 12-13.

Unrelated but Sting and Rouge being the same age as Wendy is the reason I hate the 7 year stasis thing. We deserve more age diversity in dragon slayers, I say. They can't all be a brisk 18, that's boring. Also how old is Erik??? Genuine question I cannot get a read on him.

The exceeds are also hard but it bothers me that supposedly they all hatched at the same time when they were supposed to be an entire lost generation (which for humans is about 20 years, cats about 2 years). Unfortunately I don't have a scale for how long they are expected to live, what their incubation period is like, how long their infancy to adulthood is, if Happy and Carla are even considered child bearing aged adults in their society at their canon age of 6, etc.

Still I think there should be a few years or so between them, so in order oldest to youngest of Earthland born Exceeds it's goes; Carla, Samuel, Lector, Happy, and Frosch. Also I wanna add right here unrelated to anything, Nadi is my second favorite Exceed, right behind Samuel. I love them.

I realize this causes a collection of problems with how the timeline reads, but considering the constant usage of 7 years never really came up in a meaningful way I am more than happy to tear that consistency apart.

To begin, to make this easy let us establish this Dragon Slayer is an alpha. If you did not know you might suspect he was a beta with how he is so careless and goofy. Not your stereotypical stern tough guy alpha.

Natsu doesn’t care if you see him as an alpha or not, and he doesn’t care if someone doesn’t believe he’s an alpha. His status as a dragon slayer and member of Fairy Tail is his pride not something decided by birth or gender. Gender, who cares about that, are you strong or funny or nice? Thus goes his priorities.

So needless to say he’s not really into the whole, he has to court you by rules xyz due to his secondary gender. He’s going to court you how he believes a dragon slayer and guild member (because you will be adopted into Fairy Tale if you're not in it already) should be treated.

It might have taken him a long while to realize he wants to court you though. At first he just knew he liked being around you, and isn’t that enough? Spending life going on adventures and laughing together are most important to him. 

Once or twice he feels like frowning or growling when he sees someone get really close to you. Not just proximity wise because he too is a skinship with all the friends kind of person. But seeing someone attempt to get close to you romantically or emotionally and nudge him aside and out of frame? He doesn’t understand why but it burns him up inside.

I hate to say it but he tries to train it off, or just cling onto you and insist on starting a job right now. No he hasn’t picked one and yes it might be midnight but it's the perfect time to start a quest! No really-

He may go and confide in Master or Mira Jane. He knows he may get teased for it but he can’t figure these emotions out, and it's imperative to him to know because it's becoming stronger. His anger (its jealousy), his thoughts about you, why your scent is smelling sweeter and sweeter to him, all of it.

Bless this poor boy's soul because he really couldn’t figure out why he was “hungry” when he smelled your scent. He thought he needed to eat more food or fire because we don't eat friends. Thankfully they explained it's a physical and emotional longing to be closer with you.

This was not his first birds-and-bees talk but it was the one that made him realize he wanted you, and without them having to say more Natsu realized he wanted you as his mate.

Thankfully he does know from seeing others do it, although he thought it stupid at the time, the basics on how to court someone

His heart cannot take this he's so jittery and happy as he bounds up to you, if it's night time he may have broken in but that's okay! To hand you some hand picked flowers and a snack. He’s pretty forward about this, not subtle on starting the courting process. 

“Why? Because I want you to be my mate partner too of course!” Queue big happy grin

Lucy has helped him go shopping several times for you, blankets for your now shared nest. Food gifts galore.

No seriously everywhere you go, and you go to all places together now unless you ask for some space. He gets you food.

You looked away for two seconds and he disappeared. Don't worry he’ll be back in ten minutes with something scrumptious for you. 

If he has to go on a mission without you, or if you decide to take some time to yourself, expect a small little sweet or scone to be placed on your desk or in your hands. They are often a shade of pink, or dragon themed so you’d think of him.

Not huge on you wearing his clothes, with the exception of his scarf. He adores seeing you in it before he started courting you because he hadn’t realized yet, now he is obsessed wrapping it around you both as you cuddle. Or do anything for that matter.

Natsu did realize it's not practical while walking only after clotheslining you once…or twice…

He is super attentive to your needs, perhaps not romantically, but he knows you’re hungry before you do. 

Shivering? Not around him he knew to warm you before you knew you were chilled.

Tired, and he somehow has drafted you for a cuddle and nap session or has told the other guild members to go away so you can nest in a corner where he can keep an eye and make sure you are safe

Guild member pissed you off, he’s already squaring up to fight with you

You are feeling needy? He's right there giving you a hug

It all stems from his fighting experience funnily enough. He’s gotten really really good at reading body language because of it and he has yours down to an art form.

Natsu is strong and independent despite his love of skinship and kinship. However he will always be longing to be just a little bit closer to you and his gifts sometimes reflect as much.

Never in his life before would he have wanted to buy a massage, but here he is getting vouchers for couples massages. He heard about it from Elfman and it was a lightbulb moment.

Matching funny hats at the amusement park

Small little quirky dates to places to do things together, like making matching earrings. Or a food tour of a town together, quality time is his utmost number one gift and treasure. It's the best thing you can give him too, volunteer to spend time together and he is over the moon.

This goes without saying but Natsu is above all else, protective. You are strong or weak, it doesn't change this, he will fight god and anyone who looks down on you or tries to hurt you. Even if it's a guildmate in a pre ordained face off, someone will need to hold him back. You are too precious to him to risk losing, so please stay by his side forever.

Thing I've noticed about the Fairy tail fandom misogyny problem (I'm about to sound like such a nerd)

Not to be the loser of the year but the easiest way to see the bad treatment of women in the ft fandom is by imagining what would happen if you swapped the genders of gray and erza.

As we all know gray has a running gag of taking off his clothes, however while people clown on him for this it's also well known and obvious that he is more than that. He has depth and character beyond just that gag. In the more recent 100 year quest he really hasn't done that much by comparison to natsu Lucy erza or even Wendy. This has been (reasonably) upsetting to some fans arguing that he deserves better. I agree with this but I need you to imagine what the reaction would be if he was a women because it would be a completely different story.

If gray was a character who didn't get a lot of development and was always taking off his clothes as a women people would not be saying he deserves better then would be absolutely dog piling this dude calling him useless and fanservice only completely ignoring all his previous development.

How do I know this? Because that is literally what happened to Lucy. Back in the 2010s people WOULD NOT GET OFF HER ASS. people were constantly calling her useless (completely ignoring the fact that she's a brand new wizard being compared to guys who've been doing this since before puberty and NO SHIT SHES NOT THAT GOOD YET. THATS WHERE THE DEVELOPMENT COMES IN). It made sense for Lucy to be weaker than the others she was brand new to this and that was literally the point of her entire story to watch her grow as a wizard and become more independent and powerful. In some instances Lucy was written to be a damsel in distress character but rather then looking at her as an obvious victim of bad writing it was treated like it was somehow her fault. Gray and Lucy are very similar characters but gray is treated far more favorably right now than Lucy ever was back in the early days.

As for erza, people cannot stop calling her a plot armor character. All I see online is none stop hating, some people even claiming it's worse than natsu. The things is, to a degree they are right erza does have plot armor, the issue is that so does literally everyone else. As much as you don't want to accept it erza fights more so it's more noticeable with her but every single fairy tail fight outside of a few will have an element of plot armor ESPECIALLY for natsu.

The issue I have isn't that people are wrong it's that they completely ignore the fact erza is literally only being treated the same way male anime characters have been since the dawn of time but now suddenly it's a problem. Being overpowered and winning by punching things harder is fine as long as you're a dude ig.

It's even worse when people argue she's a Mary Sue because she objectively isn't. She not only has so many flaws that come to mind easily, she had probably one of the strongest character arcs I've ever seen. She's gone through more character development then 99% of the cast the only problem is that it happened very early and afterward Hiro didn't really know what to do with her.

That being said, even if she had no character arc at all I STILL WOULDN'T SAY SHES A MARY SUE. BECAUSE A MARY SUE IS A CHARACTER WITH NO FLAWS. AND NOBODY IN THIS SHOW IS MORE FLAWED THEN ERZA IS. I've heard people argue that all her flaws are comedic and, ignoring the fact this is just not true she has plenty of flaws that are genuine problems she needs to grow from (ie galuna island, tower of heaven and edolas), who cares if they are comedic? Natsu is also a very flawed person and has not had to change even a fraction of the amount Erza has and does that make him a Mary Sue? No. Do I still love him? Absolutely, he's funny as hell.

This post was not made to complain about gray or natsu btw Its not that I think they're useless or Mary sues I just don't think any of these characters are at all and I think people who do think that should all explode. Anyway this is just what I think feel free to disagree but don't try to argue with me because nobody is changing my mind on this one.

Baki would research all the foods you can eat and he’d make sure you two have everything set up. He’d baby proof everything in your shared home prior to the pregnancy. Little things you wouldn’t even notice at first. If only you paid more attention to how hungry he looked when he stared at you from time to time

He’s extremely doting and caring the entirety of the pregnancy and even after it’s all over. He won’t ever leave your side

Baki is a very doting partner, he’s just so possessive it’s suffocating. He never wants you to leave because Kozue left him broken. He doesn’t want to fall apart like that ever again. Baki is afraid of failure so he’ll do his absolute best to make this relationship with you and your baby work

When your baby is born, he’s with the two of you constantly. He holds you both with a soft smile. He swears he’s going to be the best dad and he’s going to give your child the childhood he never had.

Gaia and Sikorsky

Gaia was the first to notice the way your face lit up when you would see a baby. He’d point it out to Sikorsky, the blonde and him now in a silent competition on who would be the father first

You’re now double stuffed during sex, your pour body so stretched and sore from the two of them constantly stuffing you. You’d constantly be over stimulated from how competitive they were being as of late

Sikorsky would be the one who would slip up and tell you that they’re trying to get you pregnant, more than likely during sex. “I’m gonna be the one to get you pregnant! Take it!”

Gaia would sit you down with Sikorsky and explain to you that he saw the way you kept looking at babies so he and Sikorsky wanted to give you one. They both just want you happy.

They’re both very honest people so you figured that’s what they were trying to do from the beginning. You love your boyfriends

When you do conceive, they’re both so thrilled. Gaia is buying gender neutral baby clothes and supplies, Sikorsky is cooking you nutritious meals, Gaia builds a crib, and Sikorsky helps set up a nursery with Gaia. The two argue over baby names but you keep the peace by taking a first name from Gaia and a middle name from Sikorsky. They’re both extremely involved in the pregnancy

When it’s time to give birth, Gaia is the most level headed while Sikorsky is freaking out. He is an ex convict, what if the baby hates him? Gaia will smack him on the head and remind him that you need him by your side too. Gaia holds your right hand and Sikorsky holds your left hand while you push the baby out

Sikorsky cries when the baby comes out with blonde hair and Gaia notices the baby has your eyes and his nose. It’s seems they both played a role into making this baby. Sikorsky tries to fight Gaia on who gets to hold the baby first after you. Gaia let’s Sikorsky hold the baby first. Sikorsky starts crying immediately. He never thought he’d be a dad or be in a polyamorous relationship

The three do you take turns with the baby. Sikorsky makes sure you prioritize your rest over his (plus he’s the one who spoils the baby the most). Sikorsky wants another one immediately and Gaia has to stop him all the time. Gaia is the one keeping the peace now because they don’t have space for another baby quite yet

Gaia promises you can have another one once the four of you get a bigger place

Natsu Headcanons:

Genderfluid Dragongender Aro Bisexual, He/Any pronouns

5'8", well muscled, he's got some fat padding, but overall not a lot. He has a fast metabolism rate (largely in-part due to how fast he has to consume and digest fire), causing him to not gain a lot of weight.

Mixed, he's half Japanese half Māori. He takes after his mom in all but hair color.

He has ADHD and Autism. Look at him.

Left with some serious burn scars on his arm after Alvarez, along with a lot of scales. His dexterity in that hand isn't the best anymore but Wendy healed it as much as she could.

Best sense of smell out of all the dragon slayers, he is comparable to a bloodhound.

Due to being a dragon slayer he has red scales lining his cheekbones and the top ridge of his pointed ears. He has larger canine teeth than average. His tongue is also slightly forked on the end. Later in life (around 30s) he has scales on the back of his hands and tops of his feet.

After unlocking Dragon Force, one of his coal black eyes lit like it had been placed in flames, and now it is the color of fire.

Lucy is his life partner, and he would do literally anything for her. It's unsure if that partnership is romantic, queerplatonic, or what, but it's still a partnership.

He is an extremely tactile person and struggles with the concept of personal space especially when he likes someone. Lucy has lectured him about it before. He's... Working on it.

He has a tā moko band right below his guild mark, he got it from Gajeel and it represents the connection between the time periods that he and the rest of the dragon slayers are from.

He fucking loves having stuff in his mouth. In a modern AU he would probably constantly carry his phone in his mouth and have a chewing stim.

Differences in his gender from day to day/moment to moment are mostly internal and he rarely expresses verbally, but sometimes if it's relevant to the conversation he'll state it.

He has texture issues regarding sleeves he doesn't like them most of the time.

He thinks sex is just something fun to do, nothing too serious. Because of this he's been known to have casual sex with his friends.

Natsu

I've always felt that Natsu sits somewhere on the Ace spectrum, he's never shown interest in sex nor does he care for it when anyone mentions it. He is however, panromantic, he cares very little about how a person identifies but if he wants to pursue any sort of relationship then he'll go out of his way to make romantic (at least he thinks it is) gestures towards that special someone. Natsu doesn't actively think about his gender, he genuinely doesn't get the concept, he just dresses and acts how he wants to without putting too much thought into it

Gray

Gray if asked would probably say he's bi, much to Juvia's horror as she now has twice as many love rivals. He'd casually admit to having liked various guys and will weigh in his opinion on checking out the models (male and female) in the latest sorcerer weekly. While Gray would identify as a man he's fairly comfortable in his masculinity and wouldn't mind having his nails painted but would draw the line at wearing women's clothing unless absolutely necessary.

Erza

Demi-ace queen and she knows it. Despite having very little physical interest in people Erza still shows her affection towards her friends by, rather aggressively, showering them with praise and compliments. Erza cares very little about peoples perception of herself and dresses and presents however she pleases. She'll find any reason to dress up.

Cana

Asexual, panromantic. Most people don't realise that Cana doesn't care about sex considering how many dates she goes on and how often she complains about not having a date. In truth as much as Cana can talk dirty and openly flirts with anything that breaths, she really just enjoys someone taking a genuine interest in her and being romantic (not that she'd admit it).

dabi being incarcerated for his crimes after the villains lose the war. whatever sanity he had left is completely gone at this point. he’s completely mad with rage. enji is alive and well, that’s one thing to go batshit over. but these heroes won’t even grant him the freedom of death. he has to continue living with the weight of his most recent failure, as if it hadn’t been heavy enough to suffocate his entire being before. the men guarding his cell become familiar with the sounds of his sobs and screams; occasionally, they have to bust in and stop him from bashing his head into the walls in an attempt to free himself from his misery. so much for quirk nullifying cuffs.

the first time enji tried to talk to him through shatter proof glass, dabi let him have it. released all his sorrows, told him how much he wanted him to suffer in the depths of hell. the old fart fell to his knees, his face contorting into the ugliest expression while his eyes leaked gross tears. that should have brought dabi some sort of satisfaction, he supposed, but why would it? his words were just ricocheting off the barrier preventing him from killing that bastard, and at the end of their meeting he’d go home to his cushy mansion and golden boy son….. oh, right, and those other two kids. and wife. ex wife? who fucking cares. dabi doesn’t.

those background characters paid him a visit too. didn’t have as much to say to them, but didn’t let them walk away unscathed either. called his mother spineless, his sister a two faced bitch; they cried, just as expected. his brother — just a different color palette from Satan himself — wasn’t all too happy about that, pounding his fists on the glass yelling about “where’s touya” this and “what have you done with my big brother” that. it got the guards to pull him away and remove him from the room. and thank fuck for that because dabi was, quite frankly, having a hard time trying to conjure up some venom to spit at natsu.

but after the first visits, dabi had sworn himself to an oath of silence. if he couldn’t literally be six feet underground, he was going to act as if he was by being unresponsive. call him childish for it, but he’d been holding onto a grudge that existed since before his voice dropped a shit ton of octaves, for YEARS, so this was just the half of it. he was going to make the todoroki’s feel like they were passing by his open coffin at his dream funeral every time they walked through those maximum security doors, until the day his body decided to finally give out.

that was the plan, until you walked through the doors, looking so scared and small next to the giant walls of the metal dungeon they were holding him in. you don’t belong here. you don’t belong anywhere near this world. that’s why he left you that day without notice. so how the fuck did you end up here? you were always too stupid and curious for your own good, but surely you weren’t crazy or powerful enough to break into tartarus just to get involved in his business. no, that was his level of psycho. you’re twiddling your thumbs as you approach him and your footsteps are so loud in a silent facility like this, yet muffled by the blood pounding in his ears. he can tell you’re gathering the courage to lift that dumb little head of yours. you take a deep breath before meeting his eyes.

and god you’re still such a baby for him, even after you’ve probably seen all the destruction he’s caused on the news. your bittersweet smile goes all wobbly and a sob you were trying to hold in escapes your lips.

“hi,” you whisper meekly.

and that’s the way the cookie always crumbles. he scoffs, knowing he’s long walked right into enji’s trap. because if you’re a big baby for him, he’s a complete sucker for you.

“there’s a seat right there, idiot,” he mutters, snapping his head to nowhere in particular. he doesn’t need you seeing the softness in his eyes or whatever. and who knows how good those surveillance cameras are? for all he knows, enji is in some camera room right now zooming in and examining every detail of his expression, searching for a hint of his son inside that monster’s body (there’s no need to zoom, really. cat’s out of the bag now).

you’re quick to scramble for that seat like someone’s gonna come out of your blind spot and tackle you for it. you’re trying so hard to repress all the physical signs of joy currently overtaking every part of your body. “quit acting all cheesy,” or something like that, is what you expect him to say. and touya can see the battle you’re having with your mannerisms, trying so hard to stay cool for him, and it just makes him chuckle. maybe he’ll give the guards a hard time later, when he’s thinking back to how many displays of “weakness” he’s exhibiting at the moment. maybe he’ll successfully turn his brain to mush this time. but right now, your effect on him is kicking in, and he can’t find it in him to be be bothered by all that bullshit.

“you look hot today. this a date or something?”

you gawk at him, clearly not expecting one of his flirtatious comments you used to be familiar with. then you giggle, and it’s like rays of sun peaking through rain clouds during a thunderstorm. his stay in this prison has been nothing short of grim; he figures that’s why you haven’t come to mind once since his arrival, despite the nauseating amount of love he carries for you in his heart. you don’t belong here.

“you’re healing so fast,” you note. “seems like you’ll be in good shape in no time.”

touya knows you’re referring to his scars. but the sight of you here, right now, fills him with a whirlwind of unfamiliar emotions. you’re not human, he thinks. not from this earth. maybe you have some quirk you haven’t told him about that would explain the surreal effect you have on him? yeah, that has to be it. that has to be why he has this feeling of…. hope growing inside of him.

Gruvia Fan Content Prompt Idea List

well, some people seemed interested when i said i'd make a post with a list of Gruvia fan content prompts, so I'm making it! I'll warn you, though: I don't really like the way ideas are shared on typical prompt lists so mine might not be to you guys' tastes:

AU where Juvia joined Fairy Tail first and was the one to inspire Gray to join the guild. Some of you might recognize this as a previous post of mine, where the idea is more fleshed out, but I don't mind at all if anyone else takes it as a prompt and uses the idea to write their own story.

Gruvia-centric Stone Age Omake fic. There's tons for Nalu but only one I found that's Gruvia, Learning to Love by starryfairyjedi, which is excellent but the author hasn't finished it quite yet.

Pregnancy fic. ik ik, another unoriginal idea. There are tons of these, but I think that's true for a reason. A scenario where Juvia accidentally gets pregnant forces Gray to commit in a way he avoids throughout the series. Plus also that guy just has a ton of untapped worry-wort dad potential. It's tragic, really.

Forced to live together. Who doesn't love these kinds of fics? As for why Gray and Juvia have to live together...maybe Fairy Hills got destroyed during Alvarez or by another Dark Guild, and when Gajeel offered to let Juvia stay with him, Gray stepped in to offer up his own place in a moment of irrational jealousy. There's a lot of potential for humor with Juvia's various Gray paraphernalia, plus it would be a chance for them to address feelings about their previous cohabitation.

Playing off the last one: AU where Juvia's an informant targeted by the mafia and Gray is the FBI agent tasked with protecting her. Therefore, they are forced to live together in a safe house.

Grease-esque AU. Juvia could be one of those rollerskating waitresses and Gray and Natsu could be race car drivers/rivals. Sides of other pairings would work well with this one, like if Lucy and Erza were also waitresses.

Juvia meets Edo-Greige somehow. This would be so cute! How would she wind up meeting him? Well...i don't know, lol. It'd be interesting if she wound up in Edolas accidentally and Gray had to go rescue her. In the meantime, she could interact with Edo Gray and Juvia, also...that's a moment we never really got to see in the series.

Juvia and Lyon wind up paired for a mission and Gray follows them out of jealousy.

Assassin AU where Gray's the assassin and Juvia's the target. Good potential for a steamy fight scene and ultimate cuteness when Gray refuses to kill her.

Pirate and Mermaid AU. a lot of fics have elements of this dynamic but i don't think i've seen one that's really Gruvia-centric and about the love story. would make a great oneshot or short multichapter fic imo.

Juvia's a nymph who cares all alone for her forest since the other nymphs died, until one day, an Ice Demon Slayer, injured in battle, drifts into her forest via river on a slab of wood. The forest urges her to kill him, but Juvia is unable to kill the first man she's ever seen. While she nurses him back to health, they fall in love. Lots of potential for romance/humor with the whole "Juvia's never been around people, especially men, and doesn't get personal space" thing, a bit like the Stone Age Omake idea.

MHA/BNHA AU where they meet as heroes-in-training or young pro heroes in the field.

Fake Dating. Kind of a sucker for these, ngl. Would be even better (in my personal opinion) if it was an AU so this was how they met.

UFC/MMA AU. Few different potential ideas with this one. Could be Juvia falling in love with Gray from the audience while he fights Natsu, a mixed-gender version of the UFC where Gray and Juvia fight each other, or Gray gets a crush from the audience watching Juvia fight someone (I'd personally love to read this one).

Gray and Juvia meet as kids. Would be really cute if little Gray comforted Juvia about her rain.

Robin Hood AU. The Fairy Tail ethos goes well with Robin Hood's. You could have it where Juvia serves as a knight for King John (/Jose?) but abandons the kingdom for Robin Hood's cause when she meets Gray.

If I think of more, I'll add to this list or maybe make another one! Feel free to use any of these/apply them to any ship. I'd love if you lmk you used one of them or tagged me or whatever, but if you're not comfortable with that you don't have to. I may use my own prompts one day, too, especially the Stone Age Omake ones, the nymph one, and the Edo Greige one. I'm totally fine with us having written the same idea if you are.

Fairy Tail and Gender

A self-indulgent Essay on why I enjoy Fairy Tail!

[Before I get into this, would like to say this is mostly personal opinion and I will not be debating anyone :)]

So, this all began when I had begun to wonder, "Why don't I enjoy One Piece when I love Fairy tail?". They both stem from pretty similar themes and plots, and I admit that One Piece is a good show! It's just not something I could bring myself into for some reason.

And it gets me to thinking, objectively Fairy Tail is pretty not great. The writing can get repetitive, arcs are forgettable, and just overall it's kinda mediocre. But nonetheless, I ADORE it! It could be partially due to nostalgia, yet around the time I started Fairy Tail as a kid, I had also picked up and dropped One Piece, so what stopped me then?

It all came back to one thought! Treatment of different genders.

Of shounen anime, I can't think of many that make female characters on equal power standing as male characters (never mind even having them as main characters).

As great as One Piece is, their treatment of women in story and relevance is something that always draws me away from it.

Fairy tail is very good at making women who are equal power standing to the male characters, with some of them being even stronger! Not to mention the story treats them with equal relevance and gives them the same amount of depth that the male characters get. Lucy, Erza, Gray, Natsu, (and the many side characters that I adore) all have rather equal amount of back story. Though there is some power gaps, for the most part these characters are all really strong, and grow with each other as well!

Now let's get to the part we are all thinking about and why Fairy Tail has its reputation: The fan service.

Fairy tail had an ABUNDANCE of fan service and raunchy humor, but one thing I can admire on this subject is they acknowledge it! 90% of the show's fan service consists of characters knowingly making raunchy jokes, and this goes for both genders!

I will like to clarify that they do go into some pretty strange territory sometimes, and there is no excuse on that but for now i'd like to focus on the more comedic bits.

For example, every joke about Lucy is usually balanced out with a joke about Gray! Any fan service with the women characters as subjects will then often be turned over to the men ALSO being subjected to fan service!

This essay is getting messy and unorganized but idc its a tumblr ramble.

My other point I really appreciate is the women are very self aware! The show doesn't write the fan service as "oh this helpless and cutesy girl doesn't know shes teasing men by existing with big boobs :(". The women are well aware of their surroundings(for the most part) and will joke about it themselves! The women who are used mostly for fan service do it of their own will, rather than it being an accident of some sort? MiraJane chooses to model for sorcerer weekly, Lucy purposely uses her "womanly charm" and so on! It's all things they chose to do and not pushed on them!

Overall I just think that the show is pretty good at its gender balance and keeping the men and female equal. Whether it's on power levels, intelligence, back story, social consciousness, and yes, even fan service.

So as bad as the writing can get for main plot, the vast amount of well written characters with varying experiences, as well as how the characters are treated balance it out for me!

Dating a member of the Thunder Legion can be stressful, after all they tend to go on some of the most dangerous missions, but the most annoying part is when said member you are dating follows Laxus around like a lost puppy half the time. Yes, I’m dating Freed and as much as I love the rune mage, it can be annoying watching him give so much attention to someone else. Don’t get me wrong I think it’s kind of funny, but I can’t help but to feel a little jealous. I try not to show it though, I like to hide it by teasing him about it. After a couple comments from me he usually realizes what's happening and stops, but recently he hasn’t been picking up on it as quickly.

That is exactly what is happening right now, I’m sitting with the Thunder Legion in the guild hall. I would like to just be able to spend time with my boyfriend while he’s not on a job but no he has to be following Laxus around. I could feel Evergreen’s eyes on me as I watched Freed talk to Laxus about who knows what.

“Can I help you Evergreen?” I asked, taking my gaze off the green haired mage.

She just rolled her eyes at me before responding. “You know if it bugs you so much that he’s close to Laxus you should just get over yourself and tell him, If you don’t out right tell him, he won’t change”

I nodded along with what she was saying. She was right in a way, as smart as Freed is he can be clueless sometimes, especially with people and feelings. “You’re right, but I don’t want him to change, I think it’s sweet that he cares so much about Laxus. I just wish he would spend more time with just me, it’s like I only see him when you guys get back from jobs and even then we are always around you guys. It’s never just the two of us.”

 “Just tell him that, stop making dumb jokes to him about it when you get jealous, eventually he’s not gonna realize that it bothers you. Ever’s right tell him to his face that you’re upset.” Bickslow said, joining the conversation, with an echo coming from his babies of “tell him, yeah tell him”

I swatted away one of the floating dolls rolling my eyes at the two. “I know that I just don’t want to make him feel bad. I don’t want him to feel like I’m upset about it.” I tried to explain why I hadn't said anything yet.

“Make who feel bad about what? Did something happen, do I need to use Dark Écriture on someone?” Freed asked as he and Laxus made their way back to our group after getting drinks from the bar for all of us. I was glad he had missed the rest of our conversation, I really don’t want him to feel bad about it.

I smiled up at him as he sat next to me, greeting me with a quick peek on the lips. “Oh it’s nothing Natsu was just -” “Y/n wants to talk to you privately about something.” Evergreen stopped me from finishing my lie, forcing Freed to look at her in concern before looking back at me.

“ Well let's go for a walk then, and you can tell me whatever it is you need too.” Freed said, standing back up and pulling me up with him. I nodded in agreement as I followed him out of the guild hall hearing chuckles from our friends as I presumed, the two aware the situation filled Laxus in as we left.

Once we were far enough from the guild hall that Freed felt confident that none of our guild members would hear our conversation. He stopped us and turned to me. “What's wrong Y/n? Is it really about something Natsu did or is there something else going on?”

I turned my head away thinking of how to bring everything up without making him feel bad. “Natsu didn’t do anything. I was just nervous to tell you the truth. Now I don’t want you to feel bad about it so you have to promise that you won’t blame yourself.” I said, finally turning back to face him.

“You’re not breaking up with me are you?” he asked with a frown forming on his face.

“Oh god no, I could never do that, I love you too much to do that. It’s just I feel like you don’t want to spend time with me anymore." I said, trying to calm his heart. “I know you are busy taking jobs and stuff with the Thunder Legion and all, but whenever you get back you only seem to want to spend time with them and there’s no time for just you and me. I love that you care for our friends but it would be nice if every once in a while we spent time with just the two of us, when we are both home from jobs.” Finally getting this off my chest felt great, but I was still scared to see his reaction.

It was silent for a minute as I watched him process what I had said, and it was almost like he was replaying the last few times we all happened to be back from the near constant stream of jobs.

“I love you too, and you’re right we haven’t been spending a lot of time just the two of us. I’m sorry for that, to make up for you, we are both going to take a week off from taking jobs and just relax together. I truly am sorry for making you feel like I didn’t want to hang out with just you. I honestly thought you wanted to hang out with everyone and didn’t even think to ask if you felt different. I promise to try harder at asking about your feelings and to make time for just you.” Freed said resting his hand on my cheek, smiling gently at me.

I leaned into his warm touch smiling at him as I took in his apology. “Thank you, I truly appreciate it, but it’s partly on me as well. I should have said something more. But, I can’t wait to take a week off, I'm tired of listening to you fawn over Lauxs all the time.” I said with chuckle breaking the soft moment we were having to poke fun at the green haired mage.

He pulled his hand away rolling his eyes, “I do not fawn over Laxus, I just care about my friends. But whatever, let's just go back to your apartment and rest. We both need it.” He said defending himself before grabbing my hand and walking in the direction of my apartment. “We can tell makarov that we are taking a break in the morning.”

I was supposed to do a strictly Courting Headcanon but uh I got distracted...SO I shall put a strictly nsfw courting (and maybe some more bonus sfw) headcanon on my to-do list X.X Sorry

We are going to do Laxus post his first fight for this one~ Because we love character growth in this universe~

Laxus is an alpha, a seemingly calm alpha with a selective and secretive short fuse. 

He has no time anymore for meaningless violence. Laxus is too busy looking towards the future and doing whatever is within his power from behind the scenes to make the lives of his guildmates better

However if you purposely put yourself in his way, by threatening his assumed fairy tail this man will assert himself as the alpha and without letting that sink in he will strike

One blast of lightning is all it takes to fry most, and just to be a disrespectful shit, he will let his scent out so they are stuck smelling like the alpha who kicked their ass so easily and warning any of their buddies there is a Fairy Guardian ready to kick ass if they try to lay a hand on them

Unlike Natsu or Rogue he is not hiding or ignoring his alpha status, he doesn’t necessarily think it makes him better than anyone anymore. However He knows that secondary gender often leads people to be naturally stronger in terms of strength and scent

He is very mindful of how much force he puts into everything, from opening doors to helping someone up who fell. It would bother and upset him if he accidentally caused injury to someone who did not deserve it

Unlike how Natsu just has a generally lower scent unless he’s angry, Laxus’s scent is strong and he has gone through time to learn how to keep it calmer and not overpowering for those around him. In fact it is a rather grounding and calming scent that makes you feel you can rely on this man

He takes pride in his scent but understands not everyone wants to smell him 24/7 so he hardly ever pushes his scent out(except as a power move on assholes), and never scent marks not even the Thunder legion 

Although awkward when it comes to expressing affection, Laxus is a very passionate alpha it comes across in the tiny turns of his lips, the stance he takes to protect others, and the crackling of his lightning (it differs in fights against guildmates vs enemies you can feel his ferocity)

This goes for shows of affection to his guild mates too, he plays with them like a jock big brother would the youngest sibling. He treasures them but also this usually comes through him unintentionally teasing them or pissing them off by how he interacts with them

Alpha Laxus is not looking for power, he is looking for a family. A place to rest and a place he can protect with everything inside him

If he is needed to lead then he will but it will not be from the thought of I am alpha so you will listen, but because he wishes to protect and he will serve the role of protector (not alpha) but protector for those who he has come to accept as family regardless of their secondary genders, primary genders, sexuality, or magical ability

He has learned to protect the strong as well as the weak and he cherishes each one even if he does not know them personally all that well, when family views them as his family thus he will protect them

As for Laxus as an alpha to be with you, well you must be a member of Fairy Tail plain and simple, or someone Fairy Tail sees as family

If you are seen as family but a part of another guild it won’t work for him. He has to be able to protect you and while he does see other guilds as friends he can’t trust them with your safety

Civilian? Oh guess who just got the best gig ever? Working at Fairy Tail! Congratulations~

He is a quiet partner at first, he speaks with his body and actions. You’ll need to learn to notice his glances because they speak volumes about whether he is watching you lovingly, worried for you, or just perplexed by your behavior.

Same for his body positioning, he tends to linger closer to you not like hovering beside you, but same side of the room as you. Sitting just a seat or two away, or positioned so he can be beside you in an instant if anything happened

Laxus is not huge on PDA, he just is a bit awkward because he doesn’t really crave skinship in the way many do

He prefers to gently fix your hair as a way of giving you affection before moving on to the next objective. Or cup your cheek and smile for a moment before he walks away to go get you food or one of his jackets 

He will on occasion stand just a half step behind and to the side so he can rest one of his gargantuan hands on your hip and bask in your presence

Laxus will actually commit murder if he sees you crying. The snarls and way he snaps you up into his arms is terrifying enough to his guild members let alone the stranger who had hurt your soul thusly

He feels helpless but will be there to hold you and offer soft words of encouragement and protection. This is one of the times you would hear him give you verbal affirmations without having to ask for them. He will get revenge for you unless you stop him

If its because of unfortunate events, nature is nature after all Laxus will steal you away to somewhere safe preferably your nest so he can just be a strong shoulder to cry on, and later cook for you. Expect the best cuddles, kisses, and home-cooked food, unintentionally becoming more like husband material by the day

It's much later on in your relationship when he starts to act on certain alpha impulses

One of those is kissing you, he found you too cute before and he was in no rush to claim you. If you wanted him like he did you it would happen in time

When he finally acts on it, it is probably after a heated battle or moment where he feels he had nearly failed to be the man (not alpha) he wanted to be for you and is so desperate and filled with all the love he has been storing up inside for you

It’s a claiming and dominant kiss and later he will apologize if that wasn’t the sort of kiss you wanted your first kiss with him to be

Now he seeks you out sometimes tugging you in gently by your hips or cupping the back of your head while he presses slow claiming steamy kisses to your lips (or if he is feeling needy or worried about you to your throat by your scent glands)

If someone in the guild is getting too close or handsy expect his jealousy to leak out slightly in a small scent flare and him coming over to kiss your forehead and cheek and suggest you both go “-get a drink” “show him that thing you were talking about” or if they really pushed it “to our Home”

Another impulse he is acting on? Scenting for the first time in years! He wants to leave his scent lingering on you so that you know he is never too far away

It does ward off others as well, being an alpha but it was more because it's his way of claiming his mate as a man who is terrified to lose you and his family again

The times it is as an alpha is if you have to go into battle and either of you are worried about the other's safety. He hopes his alpha scent could deter any harm that might come to you, he knows it can't always but even if it helps a little it's worth using his secondary gender then. Please scent him back, it helps calm his mind that you will be okay while he has to fight. He also fights six times harder with your scent on him subconsciously fighting to defend his mate with all the deadly precision he has learned over the years as an s class wizard

If he knows you are okay with it he will often wrap you up in some of his clothes

It tickles his heart seeing you drowning in his huge things

He’s unaware of it but the others see that alpha light in his eyes when you wear something of his. All the pride and love of an alpha watching their mate but they really want to tease him for this behavior he's unaware of

Alpha status can sometimes be used by him without thinking if it can make your or the guilds lives easier or safer. It is less OOO I’m a big scary alpha and “Oh? Scared of alpha’s huh? Then get the fuck out of here before I show you what an alpha really is, scum.” 

Would not appreciate being referred to by his secondary gender, it brings up bad memories and discredits his actual prowess and growth. Use his name, or his position as a s class Fairy Tail wizard not “Alpha”.

Is re-assured if you like his secondary gender but it's something he wouldn’t realize he finds relieving until it happens and you tell him as such. Although he would still prefer if it was not one of your favorite things about him

Not the greatest at understanding what the other positions need, but he is trying to learn every single day. Has gone to the library to try and find books that aren't archaic so he can be sure to provide the family or you with whatever you require at any time. He still gets surprised by things, like why your little clicks and prrts can grab his attention from across a battlefield. Doesn’t realize that is his mate's way of calling to him and him alone and he is responding to it the right way, he may ask you to be more careful about when you make those noises after he accidentally gets distracted by it while you were cheering him on and Natsu socked him in the jaw

I’ll do a more courting one but I think this is more than I had meant to do for just him as an alpha lol XD Heres a few little more but I’d be willing to do a courting headcanon, or nsfw mate headcanon if people are curious

THIS COLLAB revolves around a woman, using her greatest assets to outdo the man, proving him wrong.

WHY. I wanted this collab to be more of a woman straight-out defeating a man, whether or not he underestimated her. The idea for this popped up because I wish there was a fic out there where the reader could give Gojo Satoru a run for his money. There's not really a term for a woman like that, so I chose sly fox. It's mainly for catchy namesake, but I just need more strong women.

IDEAS. You could write reader (I say woman, but gender neutral is okay too) as physically stronger, magically stronger, more intelligent, more cunning, etc than the love interest. A docile reader who suddenly turns sadistic, a yandere reader who has been acting this whole time, a villain reader against hero love interest or vice-versa, a kidnapped reader who fights against love interest or maybe she doesn't need saving against a random kidnapper, etc.
