Somebody To Love
you bet your ass i’d make a queen reference in the title
@tylersegsy91 asked: “Hi. I followed you :) could I have an imagine with Tyler Seguin? Something like your his best friend and you surprise him at one of his games then end up admitting your feelings toward him”
i’m gonna apologize now if this is terrible. i haven’t published anything for a long time oops.
You’d like to think of yourself as a daredevil. You’ve jumped out of planes, off of cliffs, held poisonous snakes, the works.
But the idea of confessing to your best friend? You would rather hold that diamondback.
You and Tyler met back when he had just joined the Stars and you had been best friends ever since. Over those years, you could feel yourself slowly falling for him more and more.
Tonight, Dallas was playing home against Chicago and tonight was the night you wanted to finally come clean.
According to Tyler, you were still supposed to be visiting your parents at this point, but you decided to come home a little early to surprise him at the game.
Standing before your mirror, you put on the last touches of your makeup before you were satisfied with how it looked. You hummed to yourself before you headed into your living room where your bag and jacket lay waiting for you.
With a quick glance at the clock, seeing that it was four o’clock, you decided now would be a good time to leave.
A few minutes later and you find yourself at the AAC. The parking lot had already been bursting at the seams when you first arrived and the game didn’t start for another 45 minutes.
Luckily, you knew some people on the inside.
You parked in the employee parking lot and headed straight inside.
It was chilly inside, even as you made your way down to the locker room.
It felt a bit odd to you that they let you walk into a locker room. You knew all of the guys on the team, and they all knew you, or knew of you, but it still felt a bit out of place.
You slowly creep through the door of the locker room. The first one you saw, of course, was Jamie.
“Y/N! I thought you were still supposed to be out of town!” Jamie exclaims. You were quick to shush him.
“Why don’t you announce it to the whole stadium?” You snipped playfully.
You stepped a bit further into the locker room and you saw Tyler with his back to you. A smile curls on your lips and you cross the room to Tyler. Quickly, you yank up the sleeves of your jacket and move your hands to cover his eyes.
“What the-“ You hear him mumble in confusion. He reaches up with his gloved hands and pulls your hands away from his eyes. Holding your hands in his larger ones, he turned around.
“Hi.” You grinned. Tyler immediately scooped you up into his arms and twirled you around. You let out a squeal as you clung onto his jersey. He did eventually put you back down.
“You’re back early, I thought you were still with your parents?” He asked.
Once you found your balance again, you beamed up at him.
“I came home early. I wanted to surprise you.” You explained to him.
“You’re too good for me.” He said before he pulled you in for a tight hug and you wasted no time wrapping your arms back around him. Glancing over his shoulder, you caught sight of the clock. There was less than half an hour before the boys had to be out on the ice. Now was your chance.
Tyler pulled away from the hug as he walked over to his locker where he had grabbed out his white jersey before tossing it to you.
“Wear that for me.” He said with a grin on his face.
“Gladly,” You replied before you began to pull the jersey on over your sweatshirt. It was intentionally big for Tyler to make room for his pads, but on you, it was a dress. “Also, I, uh, have something to tell you.” You spoke sheepishly. Your anxiousness suddenly washed over you like a beach in a tsunami.
He turned back towards you. “What’s up?” He asked.
You bit down on your bottom lip as you stuffed your hands into your back pockets. “Well,” You started. How would you go about saying this? You feared for the health of your friendship. Making it awkward or completely ruining it would destroy you. “I’m kinda, sorta in love with you.” You bit your tongue. Tyler went to open his mouth to speak, but just as he was about to say something, they were beckoned to the ice.
“Sorry, Y/N, I gotta go,” He muttered before walking off, grabbing his helmet and stick on the way out of the locker room. Soon enough, you were left behind.
Somehow, you didn’t think this was going to turn out well. A weight had settled in the bottom of your stomach as you made your way back to the main floor.
Your body had been put on autopilot as you made your way to your seat while your mind was racing with other things.
God, what if he didn’t feel the same way? What if he was seeing someone and you didn’t know? Would he hate you for telling him? Were you coming on too strong for him? You tried to shake your negative thoughts from your mind as you finally arrived at your seat.
You tried to get your mind off of it, focusing on the echoing music in the stadium. You sighed as you leaned back into your seat and watched the start of the game.
The game was long, after having gone twenty minutes into overtime, and the amount of screaming and cheering you did made you tired, but all worth it. Dallas came out on top, winning 5 to 1. The game also almost distracted you enough about what you had told Tyler.
Almost being the keyword.
Once you had gotten back out of your seat, you began to head down to the locker room once again. You hadn’t made up your mind on whether you were going to talk to Tyler or if you were going simply to return his jersey.
You waited a few minutes outside of the locker room as the guys were showering and getting back into their clothes, leaning up against the wall.
While you were scrolling along on your phone, Tyler had walked out of the locker room, but you had been too busy to notice.
“Hey,” He called out. You looked up to see who had called to you, but before you could respond, you felt something crash upon your lips. It took you a few dizzying moments to register that he was kissing you. Tyler. Kissing you. You turned your phone off with one hand while the other rested on the nape of his neck. You practically melted in Tyler’s arms as he kissed you. A few moments pass before you both break away.
“I’m so glad you said something, Y/N. I wouldn’t have been able to scrounge up the courage.” He muttered, letting his forehead rest against your own. “I love you too.” He breathed out. You felt yourself release a breath you were unaware of holding as a smile curled up onto your lips. “By the way, you look really cute in my jersey. I was just too afraid to say it before.” He said, earning a laugh from the both of you.

In 1895, The Colored Hockey League of the Maritimes was formed in Halifax, Nova Scotia. This was twenty-five years before the Negro Baseball Leauges in the United States, and twenty-two years before the birth of the National Hockey League. The Colored League would emerge as a premier force in Canadian hockey and supply the resilience necessary to preserve a unique culture which exists to this day. Unfortunately their contributions were conveniently ignored, or simply stolen, as white teams and hockey officials, influenced by the black league, copied elements of the black style or sought to take self-credit for black hockey innovations. Black Ice is the first written record of the Colored Hockey League in the Maritimes. (via)
The league was formed by the sons and grandsons of escaped slaves, whose innovations helped create hockey as we know it today. (via)

Half of leafs nation seems to have their head so far up in their Canadian bias that they forget the simple fact that winger and center are two different positions, one worth more than the other.
Even IF Mitch were as good as Asuton is, which he's not but even if he WERE he would not be worth the amount Auston is making bc the position Auston plays is more valuable than the position Mitch plays. PERIOD.
As it stand Mitch is as good at hockey as Willy is, no really, you dig in to the numbers they are nearly identical. So no he doesnt deserve Auston money bc hes literally replaceable by a guy making just under 7 million dollars.
You know who is not replaceable by someone making less money than him? The best even strength goal scorer in the leauge, Auston Matthew's.
Listen I'm not saying don't ask for it. If I could sit down with my boss and go "let's start at 11.6 million a year" I TOTALLY would. But also like.....@ Marners camp, stop making yourself look like assholes about it, be quiet.

Derek Boogaard Estate Lawsuit Against The NHL
By Evan Guthrie
Thr\e parents of Derek Boogard a NHL player for six seasons with the Minnesota Wild and the New York Rangers brought a worngful death suit against the National Hockey Leauge claiming that his accidental overdose of pain medications and alcohol in 2011 was caused by the league’s negligence. The suit was reportedly dismissed partly because of probate procedural issues after the court claimed that Boogard’s parents were not appointed trustees of their son’s estate which is a requirement to bring a wrongful death action in their jurisdiction.
When family members wish to pursue a lawsuit on behalf of the estate of a deceased love one it is important to make sure all the legal bases are covered so that there will be no issues later a court is reviewing the case. Wrongful death actions can be difficult enough without having to deal with additional hurtles. A lawyer can help make sure that all of the estate administration matters are taken care of so a potential case can move forward.

Not Another Brit Abroad’s Guide to...Ice Hockey in Russia
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JiNe4XoPWAThis week saw me attend my first, though no doubt not my last, ice-hockey match in Russia. Despite a disappointing result for the home-team Spartak, it is safe to say I’m now hooked, which is why this week Not Another Brit Abroad brings you an unofficial guide to ice hockey in Russia.
The USSR: A Force to be Reckoned With, and Not Just in the Political Sphere
Although now one of the country’s most popular sports, ice hockey wasn’t initially popular with all in Russia, with many favouring the more European sport ‘Bandy‘. One sports journal is reported to have written in the 1940s, “the game is quite individual and primitive, with few combinations…Therefore, Canadian hockey should not be cultivated into our country…”.
Despite the scepticism, it wasn’t long before the Soviet Union had established itself as a key player on the ice rink. In 1946 the first Soviet Champions League was introduced; six years later, the Hockey Federation of the USSR joined the International Hockey League, thus allowing the national team to compete in both the World Championships and the Olympics. And the Soviets definitely showed they were there to compete: the team from the USSR won the 1954 Ice Hockey World Championships, and took home gold and the Winter Olympics two years later. From then until the demise of the Soviet Union in 1991, the “Red Machine” was one of the most dominant teams in international play, winning nearly every World Championship and Olympic tournament.
The Team with No Name
In 1988, Soviet Union Ice Hockey team won their seventh gold at the 15th Winter Olympic Games in Calgary. By the time the next Winter Olympics came around, the Soviet Union was no more.
In its place, a team comprised of former Soviet Union citizens, informally the CIS team (Commonwealth of Independent States) or the Unified Team, competed at the games in Albertville, France. There was an empty space on the front of their red jerseys where the famous “CCCP” had once been blazoned across their chests; there was no national flag to hang upon their victory, only that of the olympic rings, and no national anthem to raise the flag to, only the olympic hymn. But what they lacked in identity, they made up for in talent.
The main stars from the Soviet Union team had been drafted into NHL teams, and therefore could not compete due to a clash between the NHL season and the Olympics. As a consequence of this, the Unified Team was comprised of naïve youngsters such as Darius Kasparaitis, and Alexei Kovalev, and veterans such as Darius Kasparaitis, Alexei Kovalev, and Yevgeni Davydov, whom head coach Viktor Tikhonov is said to have had to coax into playing. But this didn’t stop them from going for gold.
Soviet teams were famously composed when victorious at the Olympics, but this year was different, this year would solidify their place in history, even when their identity was crumbling. So when the final horn blew and the score was 3-1 in their favour, the players, understandably, reacted with the enthusiasm expected of a team who had just won gold. After the game, Tikhonov remained at the press conference after the official question period was over, eager to tell everyone through an interpreter that he valued this Olympic gold medal more than all the other wins in his 14 years behind the national team bench.
“We had no stars. We won this Olympic gold with youngsters. This is why I am so happy,” — Viktor Tikhonov, Unified Team head coach, 1992
Hockey in the 21st Century
Given the history on which modern Russian hockey is founded, it’s no wonder that the Russian men’s team today are considered to be part of the “Big Six” – The six national teams that have been dominant in competitive play throughout the history of international hockey. The name refers specifically to Canada, Russia, Sweden, Finland, the United States, and the Czech Republic (in order of current world rankings). Of the 69 Olympic Ice Hockey medals ever awarded, only six have been won by a team outside of the Big Six.
Today, ice hockey is the second most popular sport in Russia (behind football). Russian teams compete within the Kontinental Hockey Leauge (KHL), which brings together 27 teams from Belarus, China, Finland, Kzakhstan, Latvia, Russia and Slovakia. Russian teams are not allowed to sign more than five foreign players, while non-Russian teams must have at least five players from their respective country. The KHL is considered to be the second best league in the world, following the National Hockey League in North America. The league runs from late August to mid-April, although no KHL regular season games are held on 7 September, a day of mourning to mark the Yaroslavl air disaster, in which almost all members of the team Lokomotic Yaroslavl lost their lives.
For anyone considering going to a game while in Russia (which I would highly recommend doing – get your tickets here) but, like me has no idea of the rules, I have created a handy list to help you understand what’s going on:
The match is divided into three periods of twenty minutes, with a break between each section. Stoppages in play, and the two 15-minute intermissions between the thirds mean that, in real time, the game will take around 2hrs 15mins.
Each team will have six players on the rink at one time (5 skaters, 1 goaltender). The actual team however tends to have around 20 players.
There are an unlimited amount of substitutions and they can happen at any time
For a more detailed run-down of the basics, click here.

I would just like to point out that on this day, 20 years ago, history was made as Manon Rheaume became the first woman ever to play in the NHL. Basically, this is one of the most amazing things ever. <3
