Comet C/2023 E3 (ZTF) by nathantw Via Flickr: Comet C/2023 E3 (ZTF) This comet was one of the most overhyped comets in recent years. The press claimed that we'd be able to see it with our naked eye or at least with binoculars. I looked and looked and never saw it even with 10x50 binoculars. I checked my star charts and programs and I still couldn't find it. I finally grabbed an 85mm f/1.4 lens and shot photos in the general vicinity and finally found the hazy blob. After locating it I went back to my binoculars and could only see it with the corner of my eye using the cones. Here's my interpretation of the comet. Since I'm in the middle of a large city I wasn't able to capture the long tail that many others could see. In fact, I was only able to see up to magnitude 5 or 6. The photo you see is about 20 minutes of capture time or 43 photos at 30 seconds each.

Ghostly face by nathantw Via Flickr: I was processing the Orion Nebula without the stars and had a weird feeling someone was watching me. When I enlarged a small part of the nebula I noticed a ghostly face staring right at me. It sent shivers up my spine. LOL

First telescopic shot of the Moon - 4/9/23 by nathantw Via Flickr: After waiting literally decades after seeing the orange tubes in an advertisement in National Geographic in 1974 I finally bit the bullet and purchased a Celestron EdgeHD 8". I wanted to dab in astrophotography and didn’t want to buy a Celestron mount. I knew there were more modern mounts available but I liked to old, outdated look of the Losmandy mount, so that’s what I picked. However, the long, tough wait for Losmandy to make the mount is/was excruciating. I ended up throwing the telescope tube on a tripod to temporarily use it that way. It’s a horrible experience and I can't wait for the mount to come in. The moon was literally moving out of the frame so fast at 2000mm that I had to use a fast shutter speed and an awfully high ISO just to stop it, but it worked. I'll hold judgement on the optical qualities vs my usual 400mm lens until I can get some low ISO guided photos. So that said, here's my first unguided photo of the moon through the telescope.

Moon and Jupiter - 2-22-23 by nathantw Via Flickr: Close up of the Moon and Jupiter conjunction. Jupiter's moons (Ganymede, Io, Europa, Callisto) are up and down. A rain storm was on its way in so catching this conjunction was challenging, to say the least.
