Nathaniel "Nate" Buxaplenty aka Remy's younger cousin! :)

I love when characters have obscure relatives and when I learnt about Nate I just had to draw him.

What do mean Remy has a younger relative who greets people with "ahoy ahoy", makes ship puns, has a writing team that writes said puns, gives names to each of the many dollar bills he is carrying around at all times, pays people to be his friend but then later decides fuck friendship, I want a pony???

Granted the only sources of information I have about him is from the wiki or a reel I saw on the actor's Instagram account. So I may have missed stuff. But I don't think anyone will care.

I like to think of Nate as Remy's annoying baby cousin who he sometimes tolerates.

?? I never got more than 3 episodes into "Fairly Odder," but I was poking around the Wiki and apparently there's a Nate Buxaplenty, theorized as Remy's younger brother...

And I'm yellin' that the actor's name is Liam and they didn't name this character Liam. Liam, the name Remy's dad calls him because he forgot his son's actual name. hilarious.

Fairly Odder: episode 4

ah, we have come to the first episode to feature a returning character (Tim and the fairies not included). it is the return of Vicky! how will she be integrated? will it be better than the other live action version? will it suck? lets find out!!

oh...we open with Hamilton jokes...kay. i don’t get it, i don’t like it, and this continues to date this. cool. moving on. Wicked now...eh sure.

aw man talk about a missed opportunity! this is the PERFECT time to whip out My Shiny Teeth and Me. seriously! it’s length is the recommended time suggested for brushing your teeth. i used to play it for my cousin when i lived with her and she was little, because you know kids hating teeth brushing, so it was funner to go “you have until the song’s done. and go!” plus it’s a song about teeth. huge missed opportunity. you could’ve even just used the instrumental if you weren’t allowed to use the vocals.

musical number already? well, it is a thing a 13 year old girl would wish for, so ok. also Rachel is kinda great with how terrible she is.

huh, this Vicky sounds like the other one when she yells. and she’s a tecaher?? O.o!!! ok i did not see that one coming, though i guess that does fall in line with her desire to have power over small children (though why jr/high school kids???) but also...she’s 6 years older than Tim, so at minimum 11 years older than Viv, so she’d be 24? i guess you could be a first or second year teacher...and she said teacher not student-teacher...and her social calendar is that of the Grinch pft, ok.

another mention of Nate! he’s annoying, and lonely, ok...interesting...oh wait there he is in person!! ok so...uh...yeah, are you Remy’s baby brother or cousin? you...you not gonna tell me? ok show...

so...the plot of this episode is kinda Frenemy Mine?? i swear there was another one, and not Vicky Looses her icky...but maybe that is the one i’m thinking of as the secondary example. but yeah much more Frenemy Mine.

why are Ty and Rachel scared of Vicky? parents liked her as a babysitter (minus hers). is it because she’s a teacher now? also calling it just “sports ball” this show gets me XD

but i got a problem here, Vicky is far too nice. is it because she’s a mature adult now? because in Frenemy Mine she was still over the top terrible...or extreme at least. and this Vicky is far less clingy. but again, she’s a mature adult, so maybe it’s ok...oh there we go, once she’s attached to Roy she’s going hard mode because completion for friendship from the peanut gallery. much better.

also hello again Nate. yes Buxaplenty’s very rich, many yachts and boats, you haven’t sailed the friendship, the peanut gallery isn’t fawning over your money, cool yeah...are you Remy’s brother or cousin???

Nate has an old over sized cell phone. clever?? and the peanut gallery has fallen in with him but are unenthused, cool ye he has no personality, are you Remy’s brother or cousin??? did his parents adopt you because rich people adopting orphans was trendy?? that’d be a horrible “joke” but you don’t resemble any Buxaplenty we’ve seen before now. or do you just coincidentally have the last name and are pretending to be rich...because that’s a really far stretch.

so Roy confirms Vicky is possessive of him...but she wasn’t possessive of Viv...

holy secret room and conspiracy board Catman!!! nope, rewind gotta pay close attention to all those photos. ahhhh!!! so many easter eggs!!!! and all illustrated when people are real (i need to stop getting hung up on that). Jorgen’s 70s wig, Delores and young Crocker photo, Crocker’s teeth getting bad when he lost his fairies??, Crocker scanning AJ, a shot from Wishology??, photo of Crocker’s journal??. this is Vicky’s secret room??? she’s the new Crocker??!!! HOW? WHY?? WHAT??? no, no commercial break pause, answer me now show, this is the first major continuity twist i am so invested in and shocked and amazed and into, explain yourself!!! (yay no actual commercial because streaming but you get the vibe). oh...Vicky didn’t make it but found it here, and yes this is the Jr High building. so...Crocker got transferred to the Jr High at some point (just like i wrote) 

and harhar saying Crocker drew that picture of himself when it’s his framed animation model. no, i’m not buying that all the other screen caps are all drawings in-universe, that doesn’t make sense. 

wait there’s a Dimmsdale Psychiatric Hospital? ok i can buy tha- VICKY IS IN LOVE WITH CROCKER????? WHAT THE FLIP FLYING WHATEVER?????????? i-you-what-no-you-WHAT-WHAT-WHAT!!!! what twisted fanfic are we in now, seriously????? Crocker is like 50s or 60s by  this point, and Vicky’s mid 20s to 30. that is...no. i-you-what???????

ok flashback to recent (as in not from the original series) events. ok...why would Vicky be upset about messing up her hair? i mean, sure, she was vain about her appearance as a 16 year old girl, but, uh...oh look, she has memories of Tim’s magic since he never lost his fairies, cool yes, lets focus on some continuity instead of, uh, the above paragraph...

oh, nope, can’t, since her motivation to find fairies is to free Crocker. ok, yeah, sure, uhhu...at least it seems very one sided and like he doesn’t know anything about this. ra i hope that remains the case, don’t tell me Crocker is totally into leading her on, because ew and yikes.

aw good on the peanut gallery for being faithful to their friend Roy. still watching you and waiting for answers Nate...

ok, so this episode overall was uh...well, it advanced the original story and uh...stuff...i...um...hm...ok, so removing the context that Crocker was probably Vicky’s teacher at some point and instead going with an idea that aside from the few team ups vs Timmy, they didn’t know each other, it...makes sense...nope, nope can’t really get behind it. i REALLY hope this si all Vicky and Crocker is just in the crazy house (with a lava lamp maybe??) and if she shows up he has no idea who she is but will  happily let her spring him because you don’t look a gift horse in the mouth...and because he also has a thing for redheads (i mean Ida and Waxelplax) but ew no that kinda made it bad again. i just...nope, nope, nope. moving onto the next episode, quickly!!

I'm curious by what your planning with Nate. Are your going to make him the same age as Liam (older than Remy) or his keep him his canon age (Younger than Remy)?

I personally headcanon Nate being a younger cousin. But it would be funny if while Juandissimo is looking after young Remy as a Bulter Ms Buxaplenty ends up preggers AGAIN because "a woman has needs" and Juan just lets out a frustrated sigh because now he has to look after two of these people's children.

I don't consider A Fairly Odder canon in my works and don't plan to include him in anything. I've not even watched anything with him (I only saw the first 3 episodes and am not interested in continuing my watch).

That said, I like your cousin idea, so if I do anything, I might make him extended family. Remy deserves to have family who care about him considering his parents do not.

I'm holding off to see what future seasons give us about the Doe family - I still vote they're aliens - but if we don't get more seasons... I mean, the jokes write themselves there. It would fit so easily in my headcanons... But also, please let them be Yugopotamians in hiding. That would also be funny and would tie so well with Mark living in disguise. We deserve to see aliens fool humans.

I'd probably throw more black hair into the Buxaplenty family (i.e. Remy's grandparents) and connect Nate through the tree as a cousin. Not necessarily to the Does, but to one of those siblings.

Fairly Odder: episode 2

ok now we get to the story proper. e1 was setup, with the first half feeling like a prolog and the second half being this story. so yes, lets get into this. i’m ready for this ride.

there’s a random mountain behind the school??? well, there is the Dimmsdale Dam, so maybe...plus this is the middle school/junior high i think?? we know where the elementary school is, not this. and yes the mascot is a toucan; weird.

ha! “where’d you get these?” “internet?” gag. classic.

Dustan Lumberlake?? was Chip Skylark too expensive?

and omr a Cats movie joke. that’s dating this...as well as everything else...but still

you know...why’re the fairies so small? they were the same size as Timmy and other 10 year olds when animated. now they’re, well, fairy sized. that’s fine, nice to see some real fae lore introduced, just a weird inconsistency.

ok another “the internet” joke. you’re allowed 1 more for the rule of 3s

8 minutes in we get the opening theme why do shows wait so long for these now? the opening is supposed to be the start of the whole program, or maybe we get a minute for a cold opening. this one’s a third of the way in. also i can see the Dimmsdale vegas-like sign, and it says “Nicest Town on Earth!’ so i hope that’s a call back to Brightburg (and their rivalry) and i hope we get a mention of Brightburg in the future. that'd be fun. and i mean, Roy’s a sport kid, so rival sport team is a needed thing.

Shari Underwood? Jimmy Hiphop? Rockin’ Joel? did we seriously loose the rights to Chip Skylark? i could understand forgetting Britney Britney, but Chip?? however, Council of Pop Superstars is totally a thing i’ll take for the Superverse thank you very much; Chip’s got himself a justice league now XD also a musical earworm infection to make music zombies? i’ll also take that.

well over all, not a bad story for the first full outing. it was very early season remained. kids cause a problem with magic that was started by magic but is still mundane enough to not draw attention, then figure out how to solve it with minor magic. so not bad, not bad. though why it was called “the forbidden phrase” when really it was a musical note sequence is beyond me.

pffft ok, i was just trolling the fop wiki and stumbled upon Odder’s cast list, and well, spoilers! but also wth??

so, going in order more or less...

Nate Buxaplenty: ohho, so does Remy have a brother now? or is this another cousin? because the actor isn’t normally blonde...

Vicky: (why didn’t i highlight that one??) so she’s back too...as an adult...hm...

Anti-Sparky: oh, so this is a Sparky timeline...so...maybe there is no Chloe ever in this series? because one could argue that Sparky and Chloe didn’t co-exists since he never showed up in her season?? interesting... (so this puts us at 3 timelines then maybe?? cause there’s the live action trilogy as it’s own thing, the Sparky timeline, and potentially a Chloe timeline)

Dudley Puppy and Kitty Katswell; wth??? did they finally do that TUFF Puppy/FOP crossover they wanted? are they gonna be cartoon characters on the tv?? will the gang go into the tv or take the cartoons out of it??? it just seems really out of place in a LIVE ACTION series to have the animated anthropomorphic characters show up

Shannon and Scarlett Shallowgrave: this is also confusing but less weird i guess??? the actress is an adult, so...is this Officer Shallowgrave’s wife or daughter? is Scarlett her daughter or sister? or was one a place holder name and there is only 1 character? but expansion on Shallowgrave???

just over a week until this mess airs and hopefully things will get answered???

Can I say that Tina Churner is based off of Tina Turner who made a cameo appearance in an episode in the OG series. I wonder if there is a connection between the two in-universe. In the Fairly Oddparents episode "Hassle in the Castle" Tina Turner (who in real life was born as Anna Mae Bullock) was one of Cosmo's and Wanda's Godchild. Her face was probably not shown due to legal reasons.

His parents or at least his dad seem more responsive to the kid as he calls his dad in the episode he is introduced in to tell him how much the kids liked the jokes that the writing team wrote for him.
