Summary: Your roommate is one annoying individual and you haven't managed to sleep in months. After reaching the end of your tether you have been reduced to taking the next resort, bunking with a stranger. College AU.
✧:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧:・゚✧
Most nights you had been getting a severe lack of sleep, which wasn't great when you had to wake up for your 8 am lectures. Your roommate Wanda was an absolute sweetheart, the only issue was her new boyfriend, Vision. Before Vision entered the scene, the two of you would study together, watch a movie, and fall asleep at midnight or before. Like the responsible students that you were.
Though ever since Vision, they're up until the early hours of the morning cuddling and chatting whilst watching TV shows. Granted, the main light was always off as a common courtesy to you, but their voices and blaring light from the laptop kept you awake until they got tired and turned it off. Much to your dismay, this rarely occurred before 2 am.
You just weren't confrontational and she seemed so happy, so you didn't have the heart to tell them that they were being the most annoying people in your life currently, and the bar was low. You knew a lot of annoying people.
Another thing that annoyed you is that even without makeup, Wanda would still look stunning waking up every morning after 4 hours of sleep every day. You had to slap on some concealer so that you didn't look like the demon panda from hell. Oh, how you envied people who won the genetic lottery in terms of eye bags and dark circles.
The current night was a particularly bad one. They had started binge-watching "Sweet Tooth" on Netflix, and instead of doing a couple of episodes a night like they normally would do to finish up 'early', they kept watching and watching until they had finished the whole thing. You had been drifting in and out of sleep for hours, but when a new noise blasted from the laptop, your eyes would fly open.
When it was time to wake up and get ready after only getting an hour of uninterrupted sleep you felt all kinds of nauseous and lightheaded, but you were determined to get to class. You rushed into your shared bathroom before Wanda could get a chance to use the shower, and quickly scrubbed at your teeth and tried to style your hair, though your blurry eyes meant that your hands were not cooperating.
After giving up with just throwing it up with a hair tie, you tried your hardest to hide the dark circles that were painfully obvious under your eyes, though no amount of makeup was enough to hide the damage that was done to your skin last night. Once you deemed yourself somewhat respectable, you moved out of the bathroom to throw on whatever clothes appeared in your wardrobe first and left with a granola bar in hand.
You let your feet carry you on autopilot and somehow ended up on the right part of campus. Without even spotting your friends, you were about to walk straight past them, but luckily they noticed you in your zombie-like trance and grabbed ahold of you, pushing you onto your normal space on the bench that you had claimed. Shuri and Kate gave each other concerned glances as they looked at your out-of-it state, before Kate waved a hand in front of your face, snapping you back into reality.
"Hm?", you spoke before yawning and stretching. "How long were you out last night, and why didn't you invite us?", Shuri gave you a playful shove, which you just groaned at, the rattling movement of your head sending a sharp pain through your skull.
"Jeez, seriously what happened to you?", Kate tried, taking the more cautious approach than Shuri, treating you like a deer in headlights as her eyes flashed with worry. "Wanda", you spoke again between a yawn, and the pair beside you rolled their eyes. They knew all about how you had rarely been getting any sleep and kept trying to convince you to tell her to have a 'no sounds past midnight' rule, but you always ignored them. Again, you didn't have a single confrontational bone in your body.
There wasn't much time for them to be able to lecture you though, as you all had to go to your actual lecture, so they linked arms with you and led you over to your first class of the day, which you promptly fell asleep in. Kate had to keep pinching your thigh to keep you awake so that you didn't feel the wrath of Agatha, your ancient culture studies professor.
This was a continuous theme throughout the day, though towards the end of it Shuri had to resort to stomping on your foot with all of her might with the shoes she made that makes no sound. Unfortunately, you were capable of making sound, so you had to hold in your yelps of pain as your foot thumped angrily with the constant disturbance to its peace.
Luckily, you made it through the day and the two walked you back to your dorm, and tucked you in, making sure that you stayed in bed as you had spent the entire walk home babbling about the work you had to catch up on. Though that was important, your two friends knew that you were in desperate need of sleep first. At least a nap.
They left your room content with you getting some well-needed rest, hoping to see you in better spirits tomorrow. You instantly drifted off into a deep slumber, your body basically shutting down from exhaustion. But you only got three hours of sleep before the couple from the depths of Tartarus came bounding through the door. Wanda winced as she spotted your sleepy form stretching under the covers, then sitting up as you rubbed your eyes.
You squinted at them from across the room, your eyes still blurry from the gorgeous sleep that you were rudely ripped away from. "Sorry", she grimaced before chuckling playfully, "It's 5 though! Wake up lazy guts", she walked over and patted where your knees were under the cover before moving over to her bed, Vision following as they got out some of their class resources to start working from.
Immediately you wanted to scream into a pillow, though you didn't want the embarrassment that would come with that, so you begrudgingly reached for your laptop and began completing some worksheets that had been assigned to your class. Your eyes were comically wide as you tried to stare at the screen, urging your brain cells to do something.
They came through after an hour of working on a sheet that should have taken ten minutes, but you counted it as an absolute win and got up to make yourself some noodles. Having only eaten a granola bar and a packet of crisps that day, you practically inhaled the bowl too before settling back down into bed again, curled up into a ball.
Grateful for Vision and Wanda doing some studying, you tried to fall back asleep with the quiet atmosphere, but just as your eyes started drooping, you heard the dreaded theme tune of one of her sitcoms, and the chuckles that came alongside it. Sleep was not going to be a luxury that you could afford any time soon.
Hours passed and you felt like crying. Your body was screaming at you to get some sleep, but the laptop speakers across the room from you were shutting that idea down. Your head was pounding, your mouth was dry and your hands were tingling. Months of minimal sleep were fully starting to catch up to you, and it was not healthy.
At some point during the night, at about 3 am, your mind snapped. You needed to get out of that room, you would sleep in the hallway if you had to. So, you grabbed your comfortable, fluffy blanket from the bottom of your bed and wrapped it around your shoulders, clinging onto it for dear life at the front. "I'm just gonna get some air", you announced to a confused Wanda who frowned but nodded in acceptance. She had thought that you were asleep.
You stepped foot outside of your room, and immediately a draft from the air vents hit you, making you very aware that you were just in your pyjamas. Looking around the dark hallway a little helplessly, you were preparing to sit on the floor and sleep against the wall. It was better than having to sleep in there.
But just before you were about to sit you spotted some light streaming out from underneath the cracks of a door at the other end of the long hallway. So, you started your journey towards it. Like a moth drawn to a flame.
When you reached the door you hesitated with your fist in the air, ready to knock. But when another cold draft hit you, your hand instinctually knocked lightly, conscious of others nearby who were most likely sleeping. You heard some shuffling from behind the door, and you immediately felt nervous. It had only just dawned on you that you had knocked on some stranger's door at three in the morning. They may have even been sleeping but accidentally left the light on, the light was not a valid indicator that this person was awake, though you were proved wrong when the person opened the door fully clothed. Unless they are some weirdo who sleeps in jeans.
When you made eye contact with the woman behind the door you were immediately taken away by her stunning green eyes and her red hair. But you swallowed thickly and stumbled out your next line of words as she looked at you expectedly, confused at why you were at her door at this ungodly hour. "Sorry for disturbing you so late- or early I guess. My roommate always has her partner over and they always watch shit until like 4 am and I haven't slept in months", you sighed.
The harsh stare of the redhead soon turned soft as she took note of how your eyes didn't seem to be able to focus on one thing and how bloodshot they were. It looked painful. "You knocked on the right door", she spoke without smiling but her tone was kind, which confused your sleep-deprived self very much, "I live alone, my roommate lives with her girlfriend now, so you can take the spare bed for the night if you want", she offered with a shrug.
Your eyes lit up which made the corner of her lips twitch up ever so slightly, not that it was noticed by you, you were too busy practically drooling over the fact that there was an empty bed in the vicinity with your name on it. "Thank you, thank you, thank you", you rushed out and she moved out of the way to let you in, gesturing over to the bed in the corner of the room.
Her laptop was open on a PowerPoint presentation and her notebook was open in front of it, so you guessed that she had been doing some late-night studying, but she quickly shut her laptop and packed her notebook away whilst you clambered into bed and wrapped the duvet around yourself. She could see how much you needed the sleep, and she could finish off the final part of her notes on her lunch break tomorrow.
Even with the light on, you had immediately fallen asleep. The fact that it was a quiet room was enough for your brain to drift off, and now that you couldn't see her, she smiled softly at your now relaxed features and quickly went into her bathroom to get into her own pyjamas, before turning the light off and slipping into her own bed.
You slept like a baby for the remainder of that night and woke up feeling ever so slightly more refreshed than you had done for a while. Due to having none of your things in her room, you had to bid her farewell fairly early in the morning so that the two of you could get ready for your respective classes. Though you found out that her name was Natasha, and she insisted that it was no problem that you stayed over when you started apologising as soon as you were both awake.
The newfound energy that you had did not go unnoticed by your friends who were happy to see that you weren't on the verge of collapsing. Though the energy did not last long at all. The next month was worse than the last, and you truly did not know how Wanda and Vision were not dead. You felt like a walking corpse every day, and you had been tempted many times to go to Natasha again and again, but you didn't want to disturb her too much, so only settled for when you were truly desperate.
She had insisted that you hadn't been bothering her, but you didn't know if she was just being polite, so you still kept the visits to a minimum. She was a nice person and you felt like you had connected with her on your last few visits, indulging in some conversation before going to sleep. She had been a very closed-off person when you first met her, but now she would freely talk to you and would look very happy to see you.
You had promised yourself not to visit Natasha at 3 am again for a few more days as your last visit had been rather recent, but you had reached a breaking point and you needed her. Tears pooled in your eyes as Wanda and Vision started watching "Kimmy Schmidt" at 2 am. You were so tired.
You felt sick constantly these days, and you knew that you couldn't go on much longer with the amount of disturbed sleep that you were getting. So, again you stood up with your blanket and announced that you were going to get some air. You shuffled over to Natasha's room and saw that the light was still on, causing a smile to break out on your face for a second, but then the exhaustion overpowered you again as some of those tears started rolling down your cheeks.
She answered quickly after you had knocked, and this time she answered in her pyjamas, almost as if she was expecting you at some point over the next few days. She went to give you a hello and a smile, but when her eyes took in your appearance she was shocked.
The last time you had seen her you had looked tired sure, but this time you really did look unwell. She took notice of the tears streaming down your face, how puffy your under eye was, how dry your lips were, and you were shivering under your blanket. "I'm sorry", you whimpered as a sob escaped your lips, "I'm just so tired".
"Oh, honey", she said soothingly and tugged you into her room, shutting the door and wrapping her arms around you after. You clung on for dear life as you cried into her shoulder, though she didn't mind. She rocked you from side to side and rubbed your back reassuringly. Whilst you were standing by the door she took the opportunity to turn the light off, the darkness immediately soothing your sore eyes.
Your cries subsided after a few minutes of standing in the darkness, which Natasha was happy about. She hated seeing you upset. Though you had come into her life in an unusual way, she couldn't imagine hers without you now, and it was rare for Natasha to feel a connection to someone so soon. She had even planned on asking you out the next night that she saw you, but now her main focus was on calming you down for the night. Luckily, it was a Friday night so she didn't have to wake you up in the morning for class.
You were basically already falling asleep in her arms, which she could tell as you had started getting heavier in her hold. Swiftly and with ease, she looped an arm under one of your legs and lifted you up, your other leg wrapping around her waist without a single thought going into it. Being in Natasha's arms felt natural and safe.
Her heart melted at how much you trusted her whilst you were in such a vulnerable state, and with help of muscle memory, she navigated over to her bed in the dark and laid down with you still clinging to her, placing the duvet over the top of the both of you for warmth.
When she placed a kiss on the crown of your head and started to run her fingers through your hair, you hummed in contentment and pushed your head further into the crook of her neck. Only when she felt your breath even out did she fall asleep, knowing that you were okay. She would make sure that you were okay. Always.
-4 months later-
"Nat?", you shouted from your en suite bathroom out into your dorm room, though you got no response. With a sigh you yelled her name again, and yet again not a peep could be heard from your girlfriend. With a huff and narrowed eyes, you swivelled on the balls of your feet and looked towards the bathroom door expectedly, maybe Natasha had heard you and was about to walk into the room. However, your hopes did not come true.
Dramatically you ran a hand through your hair, "Tasha!", you yelled from your place, and immediately she popped her head around the corner with a disgruntled look. "Baby you know I hate that nickname", she pouted slightly with an amused glint in her eyes, causing you to laugh. In front of everyone else, Natasha was a closed book, she never wanted anyone to know what she was feeling. 'Showing emotions shows people you're vulnerable', she would always say whenever you brought it up. But with you, she never hid how she felt away.
The fact that she felt safe enough to be herself around you always made a warm feeling spread through your chest whenever you were reminded of it, such as now. The pet names and funny faces were a quick reminder that this was your Natasha. Or, 'your Tasha' as you liked to tease her. "I know but you weren't responding to your normal name!", you exasperated, it wasn't your fault that you had to resort to other measures to get her attention.
"Oh... sorry", Nat frowned, "I was just closing up one of your boxes and got distracted I guess", she shrugged, though the sudden change in demeanour jolted you. Due to you getting zero hours of sleep with Wanda and Vision continuing their usual antics, when you started dating Nat you basically spent all of your time in her room thanks to the spare bed. After four months of dating, she started to get sick of you having to leave and spend your time in between both rooms, so she suggested that you officially transfer dorms and move into her room.
It was a big step, but since you had basically been living there anyway it made sense for you to have all of your things in one place. Plus, you and Natasha were excited to be able to spend even more time with each other, if that was possible. The two have you had been very excited in the leadup to the transfer, so her sudden change worried you. "Hey, are you okay?", you took a few steps forward to reach where she was leaning on the doorframe and ran a soft hand down her arm, leading to interlock your fingers.
Nat seemed to hesitate, but the way that your eyes shone with adoration and seemingly stared into her soul made her feel like she could say what was wrong. It was you. She was safe. "I know I'm not easy to love, I don't show my feelings the same way that others do- I don't know I guess I'm just worried that you're going to get sick of me".
Your heart broke at her insecurities shining through, and anger bubbled up aimed at whoever had made her feel like that. "Woah, who told you that you're hard to love?", you said with wide eyes, genuinely shocked. You received an answer in the form of her jaw tightening and swallowing harshly. She didn't want to talk about it.
Sending a soft smile her way, you shook your head, "You're so easy to love sweetheart, so easy, I love everything about you. I could never get sick of you, you're my person".
"You're my person too", she whispered as unshed tears lined her eyes, and she dipped her head down slightly, brushing her lips against yours before you took the next step and leaned in further, capturing hers. It was slow and intimate as your hands travelled up her back and hers resided on your waist, proving in totality how you feel for each other. How you get butterflies every time she walks into a room, how all air escaped her lungs the first time she heard your morning voice, how her touch made fireworks explode in your heart, and how your smile made her feel at home.
When a creaking noise could be heard in the main room, you two pulled away with soft smiles before she guided you out hand in hand, finding Wanda and Vision standing looking around the room, your half now empty aside from the cardboard boxes that were scattered about the space. Even after everything you and Wanda were still good friends, you just couldn't share a space with her. She had always made sure that you were eating well, she invited you on impromptu trips out to coffee shops or ice cream parlours, and you would help each other with essay reviews. You couldn't ask for a better friend, she was just a shoddy roommate. Though the fact that you were moving out of the room made you feel nostalgic for time passed, and apparently she felt the same.
As she looked at your side of the room you spotted her bottom lip wobbling slightly and you felt your heart drop, "Oh, Wands", you cooed and engulfed her in a big bear hug. She chuckled tearily and squeezed you back, "Promise you'll still come and hang out?", she pleaded against your shoulder, and you nodded with an "Of course". When you pulled away from the hug you gave each other a small nod with a thousand hidden meanings. But the time had finally come for you to say goodbye to her. Just for now. After all, she was only a few doors down.
Whilst you and Wanda said your final goodbyes, Natasha and Vision worked together on moving the boxes over to your now shared room. You felt guilty for not helping with the heavy work, but Natasha kept reassuring you that it was okay and that it was more important for you to be able to say goodbye. You grinned at her being so understanding as you made your way over to your new room. The afternoon and evening was spent unpacking all of your things, eating pizza, and listening to the 'Do Revenge' Spotify playlist. The last one was self-explanatory, it's a great soundtrack.
When everything was unpacked and the two of you looked at your handiwork, you felt a great sense of joy overcome you. You were sharing a home, albeit a small college dorm, but still a home, with the person that made you feel the safest in the world. You were beyond ecstatic. Though this feeling soon plummeted when you saw Nat frowning at your side and tutting. "This won't do", she sighed and released her grip that was around your waist.
At first, you had thought that maybe she had suddenly changed her mind, which would be shitty considering you had just unpacked all of your stuff, but when she began awkwardly shuffling your bed across the room, a grin spread across your face again.
Her chest heaved when she had accomplished her task, and she joined you at your side again, snaking her hand back around your waist. She had pushed the beds together, making your heart swell for the hundredth time that day. "We will need new bedsheets to fit as it's now a double, but whaddya think?", she questioned and nervously chewed on her lip.
"It's perfect", you breathed out and looked at Natasha with heart eyes before jumping on the bed in a starfish position with a giggle, an amused Nat rolling her eyes behind you. You lay in peace for a few seconds, before a grunt escaped your lips as a certain redhead landed on top of you, your face now smushed into the pillows.
Before you could complain, she wrapped her arms around you and rolled over, her back on the mattress and yours on her front. "Are we just gonna lie like this?", you spoke with a blank face, it was a rather awkward position. But when Nat replied with a chirpy "Yep!", and squeezed you tighter, her face nuzzling into the back of your neck, you couldn't help but smile. You never wanted her to let you go.

Lessons in love
Lesson 2: Party time
Lesson 1: A new professor
Tumblr media
Summary: No slow burn around here, we’re already making out at parties and taking off underwear in a car! You and Wanda see each other at a sorority party where a bit of liquid courage helps Wanda along greatly and as much as you tried resisting her she was so irresistible, but is there something waiting at home to ruin it all? Of course there is 🙄
Warnings: 18+ Minors DNI no actual smut just very close to being smut, talking about masturbation if I had to put a label on it, kissing and soft moments and men (meh)
Words: about 3000 maybe more
A/n: I like this chapter I’m sorry it took a while between the first chapter and this one, some stuff at work and whatever stopped me from writing I wanted this to come out soon after the first but alas here we are, also it does seem sudden but I wanted to get initial meetings out of the way so we can fully focus on the relationship and other things so no slow burn here as I said 😂
A/n: Also I’m sorry for any mistakes and how long it is, I was going to cut it down but I couldn’t think of when to do it so, hopefully everything’s good but please do let me know if anything’s wrong
*****************************************************
Pepper had demanded you get ready at their place before the party and you had a suspicion it was to see you undressed, you didn’t mind though, you liked the attention, was that narcissistic? Probably a little
“I only have this to wear Pepper, is it a little much?” Pepper turned to you and stepped back “woah! If I wasn’t married to a man and you weren’t obsessed with a shy emo 22 year old I’d do you”
You were just wearing a pantsuit , something you picked up at a place in the city, maybe it was the plunging neckline that pretty much went down to your navel
“I’m pretty sure Tony wouldn’t mind” you winked and pepper laughed “he’d want to join in but then get overwhelmed and leave, he hates the attention not being fully on him, and with your body I’d definitely forget about him”
You stepped closer to pepper kissing her cheek “careful Mrs Stark 1 might think you were being serious”
“Hmm who says I’m not?” She laughed and kissed your cheek too
“Sorry Pepper you’re not my type” you pulled away going to the mirror and fixing your lipstick and rubbing out some that pepper left on your cheek
“Sorry I forgot your type was a young 22 year old shy girl with mommy issues”
You gasped spinning around to the woman “wow! You get rejected and this is what happens? Talk about catty”
Both women laughed fixing themselves up before leaving for the party, were you hoping to see Wanda again? Absolutely, was a party her thing though? You’ll found out.
“Take me back to the dorms” Wanda complained to Nat who was definitely listening and not at all staring at Maria playing beer pong and watching the beer overfill her mouth and then drip down her neck and her chest
“What?” Nat didn’t remove her eyes from the girl and was only half listening “why do you wanna go?”
“Because Nat there’s people grinding on each other and I’m bored”
Nat didn’t listen to Wanda instead walking towards Maria kissing her in celebration of winning beer pong
Wanda rolled her eyes heading for the less crowded kitchen hoping to escape the crazy house and try to get a early night, walking into the kitchen Wanda walked right into someone’s back, god why was this the second time this happened?? When the woman turned around her eyes went wide both in surprise and shock, why were you at a party?
“Professor Y/n what are you doing here??” Wanda really tried not to look at your outfit, or the way the plunging neckline highlighted some freckles that disappeared towards your breast and Wanda wanted to see where they ended up, wait focus Wanda!
A hand landed on her shoulder and she looked up to see your face once again really close to her own “did you hear me honey? I said I was here for the party like you, do you need some water? How much have you had to drink?”
Your concern for her made Wanda smile “no I’m okay I’m not too drunk just surprised you’re here”
“Okay good” god she was beautiful, a short black dress, simple but so elegant, though you thought Wanda would look nice in a plastic bag
You smiled back picking up Wanda’s hand and leading her away from the kitchen when a group of people came in “where are we going?” Wanda asked but you didn’t say anything until you both ended up outside
“Ah isn’t that better? Outside in some fresh air” you turned back to Wanda and picking her hand up again you pulled her closer inspecting her face holding it in your hand that made Wanda melt, god your hands were so soft “are you sure you’re not drunk princess?”
“You’re so hot” she whispered immediately hoping you didn’t hear but you did, oh you definitely did “you think I’m hot princess? Is your brain all fuzzy with the alcohol?”
Wanda couldn’t move you were holding her firm so she just took the plunge pushing forward to kiss you, you tasted like cherries and Wanda loved cherries!
When Wanda tried tugging your jumpsuit you pulled away and grabbed her hands to stop her “hold on princess, you’re drunk”
Wanda shrugged “not that much I told you I’m fine”
She tried kissing you again but you dodged her advances, even if you didn’t want to “I’m going to take you home”
Wanda perked up but you quickly shut her down “no no I’m not taking you home to sleep with you, no you need to sober up, you can sleep in my bed while I sleep on the couch okay?”
Wanda simply nodded annoyed with you saying no but grateful that she’d be finally leave the party
She let you take the lead back into the house going towards the front door, you held her close to you with a protective arm around her shoulders, you felt her pull you to the side seeing Nat “I have to tell her I’m leaving” she mumbled and you nodded “go on I’ll wait here”
Wanda walked over to a surprised Nat holding in her massive grin as you eyed her up, bless her, trying hard not to laugh or freak out, you could see what the other teachers were talking about when they said Nat was a lot to handle
“Hey Nat I-
“You got the hot teacher! Wanda I’m so proud! Wear protection” Wanda laughed at Nat “natty come on, protection really?”
Nat shrugged “yeah I know I know but I bet if you tried really really hard you could get her pregnant, anything could happen!”
Wanda playfully slapped Nat “don’t be silly, she’s taking me home because I’m not enjoying myself and I’m a little drunk, but we did kiss, Nat she tastes like cherries”
“You love cherries! Go on Wanda maybe you can convince her to do something”
Wanda glanced back at you and caught your eye, you winked at her and she quickly turned back around blushing, even in the darkness Nat could see the blush “you’re blushing Wands, she clearly wants you, even if she said no because you’re tipsy, if you flashed her something I’m sure she’d forget all about what she said”
Wanda sighed “I’ll see, but all I know is that I’m going home with the hot teacher, on her second day! We work quick”
Nat laughed and turned her around back to you talking in her ear close “okay enough talking to me, you go and get your older woman, make sure you remember to use your tongue to spell out the alphabet, ladies love that, now I’m gonna go find Maria again” Nat kissed her cheek and sent her off with a small tap to her ass
Wanda shuffled back to you and you greeted her with a kiss to her cheek “I know you said no to sleeping with me because I’m not in the right frame of one or whatever but-
“No buts princess, you can do whatever you want, walk around naked or even touch yourself in front of me I’m not taking back what I said”
Wanda groaned “you could at least play with me a little”
You sighed gripping Wanda’s hand and dragging her out of the house towards your car on the other side of the street, not saying a word until you got Wanda and yourself into the car “Professor?”
“You want me to play with you?”
She nodded “y-yeah”
“Are you sure you’re not drunk?”
She shook her head “no, actually I’m completely sober now to be honest”
“Hmm okay” you looked down at her pretty dress and back up at her flushed face “I’m glad you’re wearing a dress princess, how about you hike it up for me?”
Wanda’s eyes went wide staring at you for any wavering or laughter but there wasn’t anything as you started the car up and set off for your house
“You’ve got 15 minutes to prove to me how much you want me to play with you”
Wanda was confused, what did you want her to do? “Erm I don’t-I don’t know what to do”
You nodded your head keeping your eyes on the road, Wanda was so sweet and innocent “awe has your bravado has all gone? Go on princess, show me how wet you are for me, touch yourself and I’ll decide if you’re on the couch unsatisfied when we get to my place”
Wanda flushed hot all over, she pulled up her dress exposing her plain black panties, god she wished she put on something sexier, what would you think?
“Take them off” you said, you weren’t even looking at her just so focused on the road, how were you doing that?
Wanda nodded removing the clothing, the cold air from the car AC hitting you all at once making you shiver “oh god” she whispered and you smiled hearing her loud and clear “has it been too long honey? Been so long that even a small blow of cold air sends you over the edge? How fun”
Your enjoyment was quickly cut short when your phone rang and you looked at the screen to see who it was “oh fuck off Steve” you ignored the call and tried focusing back on Wanda and the road but the phone rang again forcing you to pull over on the side of the road and take the call on speaker “this better be important Steven I’m busy”
“Y/n you need to come home right now”
“I’m on my way home now idiot. Wait! are you at my house??”
“Yes we need to work on us, I know you’ve started your new job and you needed space to adjust to that but we need to talk”
“Sorry Steve you need to leave my house before I get there I’m bringing back company and don’t want you to scare her off”
You offered Wanda a smile motioning for her to pull her dress back down so she was comfortable and blew her a kiss, Wanda didn’t mind though, she was more intrigued than aroused now, who was Steve? And why was he demanding things from you?
Wanda broke out of her thoughts when you switched the phone off and slammed it against the floor of your car “Professor are you okay?” She asked cautiously and you lifted your head up to smile “I’m okay Wanda, just my husband being a dick that’s all”
“Husband? You’re married?? Oh god I’m a home-wrecker” she started to panic but you reached over the console to hold her hand rubbing it softly “shh pretty girl no you’re not a home-wrecker, I left him weeks ago but he thinks we’re still together and has apparently found me already, everything will be fine but I’ll need to get rid of him when we get back of course”
You reached round the back of your car for a hoodie for Wanda “here you go, wear this it should be long enough”
You gave her a small peck on the lips and Wanda tried but failed to keep your lips on her “I want to Wanda, trust me it’s been so hard to keep my calm around you, I’ve wanted you literally since the moment I saw you but let me deal with Steve first okay?”
“Okay professor I’ll wait”
“Good girl” you did kiss her again letting your lips linger a little longer before pulling away and setting the car off for your home again
*******************************************************
Pulling up at your house you saw Steve through the window watching you with his arms crossed and that stupid disappointed look on his face, you turned to Wanda “darling I know it may be a bit much to ask but can you come in with me? I’d feel better if you were there”
Wanda nodded “of course! I want you to be okay, do I need to do anything?”
“Just stick with me and don’t let him insult you or upset you, he will try and do that, that’s how he gets to you”
Wanda agreed although slightly nervous too “okay, but I’ll tell you now I’m completely sober and scared”
You’d both gotten out of the car and you pulled Wanda into a hug “it’ll be okay I promise, behave and I’ll treat you so well” you winked and Wanda blushed “please don’t say anymore I don’t have my underwear on”
“Awe poor baby, if I continued would you start dripping down your leg?”
“..yeah..” she answered meekly making you laugh “I love honesty, well we better get this over with then, just one more thing though”
You pushed Wanda against the side of the car and kissed her hard forcing her lips apart and your tongue in making her moan and grip your sides, okay she was aroused again
Breathlessly pulling away you licked your lips savouring the taste of her and admiring how messed up she looks “good girl, god you’re gonna be such a good girl for me aren’t you?”
“Yes mommy” Wanda immediately stood up from the car and stumbled over her words but you put a finger to her lips to shh her “mommy’s good girl then” you pulled yourself away from her body keeping a hold her hand to keep her with you “I’m dreaming right?” She giggled between small kisses you gave her walking towards the door
“Better than a dream, but I’m sorry my love it’s about to become a nightmare, remember to stay with me and don’t let him insult you I’ll deal with him”
“Okay”
You took in a deep breath before opening the door and walking through with you, you were immediately met with the grating voice of Steve, god how were you with him for 4 years?
“She’s young enough to be your daughter Y/n are you serious?”
Wanda kept her head down to the floor feeling you squeeze her had 3 times to reassure her
“How about you mind your own damn business, she isn’t any concern of yours tonight,” you tried redirecting the conversation but the man persisted, now looking at Wanda like a disappointed adult would a misbehaved child
“I mean seriously do you have issues? Did Y/n here manipulate you? Did she take advantage of you and make you feel things you probably shouldn’t?”
Wanda accidentally looked up and clocked eyes with Steve confirming his suspicions “ah she did, did she? Interesting, just wait until she moves on and gets someone even younger-
“Okay enough!” You turned to Wanda shielding her from Steve and whispering in her ear “baby please go up stairs, second door on the left is my bedroom please go in and make yourself comfortable and I’ll be up in a couple of minutes”
Wanda nodded sadly but you were having none of it, you kissed her sweetly and led her to the stairs sending her up “I promise, a few minutes”
“Okay” Wanda made her way up glancing back at you and you gave her a smile “be good”
Wanda disappeared and you waited for the bedroom door to shut and as soon as it did you turned back to Steve with a scowl on your face “you better have a fucking good reason for being here and disturbing my evening”
Steve was drawn to your outfit and you felt gross, you were together for 4 years and in all that time he never looked at you the way he is now and you wanted him to stop
“What are you wearing? You look like a whore”
You scoffed “ because you know exactly how a white would dress wouldn’t you? Whatever I don’t care to be childish anymore, how about you just leave so I can be with my girl there”
The man rolled his eyes “I can’t believe you, you cheat on me multiple times throughout our relationship and you’re fucking students now, that’s completely inappropriate, what would the higher ups think?”
You rolled your eyes “please Steve this isn’t the 1900s anymore she’s of age and it wouldn’t be inappropriate to be in a relationship if that’s what we both wanted, you have no power here now get the fuck out of my house”
“Fine, but I’ll be back, you need time to think and I accept that but myself and your parents think-
“Parents?! You’re still talking to my parents? That’s it, get the fuck out” you pushed him out of the house and locked the door behind you racing upstairs to Wanda who was sat on the bed playing with her nails looking up quick when you entered the room
“Everything okay?” She asked and you sighed “no but I’ll be okay, just men being men, I’m sorry darling I don’t think I’m up for anything anymore”
Wanda stood hugging you, kissing you softly “it’s okay we don’t need to do anything, do you want me to go? I can get Nat to pick me up”
You shook your head kissing her back “you can stay here, I said you were staying here to sleep and that’s what we’ll do, let’s get you out of this dress”
You gently pushed Wanda away and spun her around to start undressing her “this is not how I thought the night would go, you don’t deserve this Wanda” you took the hoodie off and the dress was unzipped, you took the dress placing it in a wash basket in the room “it’s okay Y/n I’m sorry I pushed you to do something with me”
Picking up a long sleep shirt for Wanda you put it on her and fixed her hair taking all the hair pins out and pulling her into your bathroom to clean her makeup off “is this your shirt?” Wanda asked admiring the flower patterns on the sleeves of your soft shirt
“Yeah it’s my favourite to sleep in”
“Oh what are you sleeping in, I’m okay with a old shirt or something” you smiled tapping the counter in the bathroom for Wanda to jump onto “don’t you worry princess, its like a conquest you wearing my shirt”
You enjoyed the blush on Wanda’s face, you’d never tire of seeing that
You smiled “I meant it before, I didn’t want to hold back tonight, I came to the party hoping to see you and I’m glad I did, I just wish I slept with you in a spare room at the party instead of putting you through all this”
Wanda giggled “you’re better than a night in a sorority house, plus I’m pretty sure Nat would follow and cheer me on from outside the room”
“Hmm yeah I don’t think I’d like that, plus I’m a screamer so-
Wanda shook her head “nope please don’t start with anything like that or I’ll get aroused again”
She allowed you a kiss on the cheek before stepping away from you “you’re so funny”
You moved around the bathroom picking up some makeup remover and facial wipes “close your eyes honey” she obeyed and you cleaned her face free from makeup “you’re so beautiful” you whispered and Wanda smiled opening her eyes “you’re beautiful too”
You both enjoyed the comfort of each others company in silence while you finished cleaning Wanda’s face and then brought her back into the bedroom.
Am I okay to change in front of you?” You were being polite of course, you did know the answer but to be a lady you needed to ask
“Yeah yeah of course I don’t mind” her eyes stayed focused on you as you took off your heels and then tried (not very hard) to take off the pantsuit do you mind helping me honey?” Wanda was over to you like a shot unzipping you and slipping her hands through the suit to pull it down your body, your soft soft body
“Are you having fun there Wanda?” You chuckled turning around in Wanda’s hold where she was looking at your chest “you’re so obvious princess”
Wanda wasn’t paying attention she didn’t even pretend she wasn’t paying attention, did you have piercings on your nipples? Jesus what else were you hiding?
You pulled Wanda’s chin up with your fingers forcing her eyes away “should a professor have piercings? Seems a little unprofessional if you ask me”
“We met 24 hours ago pretty much and I’ve made sexual innuendos, kissed you, nearly forced you to touch yourself and you’ve just undressed me, none of what we’re doing is unprofessional anymore”
You both tried holding in your laughter while you kissed failing after a couple of seconds “well professor I think it’s time for bed don’t you?”
“I think you’re right Miss Maximoff excellent work” you let Wanda go and fished out a shirt to sleep in “so what side do you normally sleep on?”
Wanda shrugged “to be honest I’ve only ever slept in a single bed so there’s only one side really”
“Okay well I sleep on the right so you get in on the left and we’ll meet in the middle”
You both climbed into bed and before Wanda could even settle you pulled her against your body wrapping your arms around her waist and burying you face into her neck “perfect”
“I agree” Wanda relaxed, fully relaxed for the first time in a while and it was amazing “what happens in the morning?” Wanda whispered and you kissed her neck to reassure her “we’re not doing anything wrong Wanda, if you want to leave in the morning I’ll take you back to the dorms and you can decide what happens on Monday” you manoeuvred Wanda around to face you kissing her on the nose “but if you stay in the morning and eat breakfast with me I’d be delighted to figure out what all this means for us, all I know is that you’re a great person even though we’ve not known each other more than a couple of days I want to get to know you more”
Wanda was welling up and trying not to cry but god it was difficult, you noticed though and used your thumbs to wipe away the stray tears “you are so good with words”
“That’s good since I’m also an English teacher when I’m not doing psychology”
You kissed Wanda’s forehead keeping her close in a protective cuddle “sleep tight Wanda”
“Sleep well Professor”

Hoodie | Yelena Belova
Tumblr media
Pairing: Yelena Belova x Reader (College AU)
Summary: To Natasha you are Yelena's roommate and best friend, to Yelena, you are so much more than that. Yelena isn't out to her family yet, what will happen when Natasha visits?
Masterlist | Marvel masterlist | Words: 970
You had met Yelena through a roommate ad a few weeks before college had started. She had her roommate cancel on her at the last minute, most students had already found housing, so she didn't think her chances of finding a new roommate would be high. However, when you saw the ad you were thrilled to have found an open stop somewhere near campus. Since you went to a different state for college you didn't know anywhere here to room with, so you had settled for sharing a dorm room with a stranger. Of course, Yelena was also a stranger but your beds were in different rooms.
It was a little awkward at first since you barely had any time to get to know each other before moving in together, but as the weeks went by you got closer and closer. You went from strangers, to friends, and then best friends in a matter of months.
It wasn't long until you realized that you liked her as more than a friend, though at first you kept this to yourself. You didn't want to ruin what you had by sharing your feelings that might not be reciprocated. After about a month of hiding your crush on her, your eyes lingered a little too long on toned stomach when she discarded her sweater on movie night. She commented on it when she realized, "Like what you see?" You remember it like it was yesterday. With flushed cheeks you had tried to stumble your way out of it, but to no avail. All the while Yelena was just smiling at you, your reaction to her comment had only confirmed that you had feelings for her as well. So, she bluntly asked if she could kiss you.
Ever since that day you have been together. You still had your own rooms, but your nights were always spent together. Still having your own rooms turned out to be a great decision, when Yelena’s older sister Natasha was visiting. Yelena wasn’t out to her family, so they didn’t know about your relationship yet. She felt bad for asking you to hide your relationship until she had told them but you told her that it was not a problem and that coming out was a process that she could do at her own pace.
While you’re out you receive another update message from Yelena, “Hi baby, Nat wanted a lazy morning, so I let her sleep in a bit. I have to drop off some papers at school, I’ll be back in around an hour.” You pocket your phone after letting her know you’re about to head back. When you walk into the apartment, Natasha is having breakfast at the kitchen counter. You put your bags down and greet her, when you notice something familiar. "Hey, not that I mind, but why are you wearing my hoodie?" Natasha looks down at the hoodie confused, “I thought it was Yelena’s.” You chuckle, “Nope, it’s really mine. You’re good though, I don’t mind.” Natasha shrugs and continues her breakfast, though her mind is turning. “I guess you guys had a switch up during laundry or something, I got it from her room.” She was focussed on your face for any reaction to her comment. You thought you hid it well, but she read the nervousness on your face. Natasha decided not to say anything though.
Natasha would arrive on friday and stay throughout the weekend. You were in your last class of the day when Yelena texted that she had arrived. Once your class was done, you went back to your apartment. You were nervous to meet your girlfriend's sister, even when she didn’t know you were dating her sister, you still wanted to make a good impression on her. When you arrived, Yelena had given Natasha a tour of the apartment, and offered up her room. You spend the evening getting to know Natasha, and learning more about Yelena’s childhood.
The next morning you had a quick errand to run. You tiptoed around the living room when you noticed that Yelena was still sound asleep on the couch. She looked so peaceful. You took a quick look toward her bedroom door and saw that it was still closed, which meant that Natasha was still asleep as well. You plant a soft kiss on Yelena’s forehead before slipping out of the door.
Yelena walked in and eyed the hoodie Natasha was wearing immediately, when Natasha went to greet her sister she saw the slight panic on her face as well. Natasha starts smiling, “I knew it!” Yelena hesitantly asks, “Know what?” Natasha stands and walks up to her sister, “My little sestra is dating her roommate!” She brings her in for a hug without letting Yelena say anything in response. “I am so happy for you, Yelena.” Yelena steps away from the hug stunned, “You knew?”
“Well, I wasn’t 100% sure until I got here, but I had a feeling for a while. You’ve never talked so fondly about a person in your life, sestra. It was obvious that something was going on. Seeing the way the two of you interact with each other just confirmed my suspicions.” Yelena takes a deep breath out, releasing all the tension. “Do you think mom and dad know?” Natasha thinks for a moment. “Well, mom always knows everything, so she probably has her suspicions too. Dad on the other hand, he can be quite oblivious to these kinds of things.” Natasha noticed her sister getting worried again. “They’d love y/n, though.”
Yelena was super relieved once her sister knew, and she was happy that she didn’t have to hide her relationship for the rest of Nat’s stay. That night you held her while she fell asleep in your bed.

When your academic rival gets the graduate assistant job you wanted, you’re standoffish towards each other until one party changes everything
Warnings: Smut! 18+ please! Kissing, cursing, oral (both receiving), thigh riding, thirsting for Nat
Note: I just couldn’t get college Nat out of my head again so here we are. Enjoy!
Natasha Romanoff Masterlist 1, Natasha Romanoff Masterlist 2, Main Masterlist
Tumblr media
It’s finally summer break. Well, for exactly one week it was. You decided to stay for summer classes and try to graduate early, so you only got one week of break.
That part isn’t ideal, but some of your friends are also staying. You’re determined to make it a fun summer anyways.
As you and Wanda walk to class, you catch up on her week at home.
“How was your family?” You ask her.
“Clingy,” she says. “But really good. Pietro asked about you.” She says the last part with a grin knowing that Pietro has had a crush on you since he met you.
“Not my type,” you say, laughing as you open the door to the building.
Wanda chuckles and you follow her inside.
“Right. Your type is redhead sisters of your close friend,” she teases.
“Wands, I do not have a type and it’s certainly not Natasha!”
Wanda laughs it off and you two walk into the classroom. You sit next to her and later Kate comes in and sits on your other side.
“Who got the graduate assistant job?” Another one of your friends, Peter, asks the group.
“I don’t know. I just know it wasn’t me,” you say with a bite to your tone.
You were up for the role despite being a year away from graduation. The professor, Dr. Banner, had loved your writing this semester and he was going to make an exception for you. But at the last minute someone else applied and got the job.
You’re still teeming from the memory when none other than Natasha Romanoff walks in. Was she in this class? Surely she had taken it already.
“Hello everyone. Dr. Banner is running behind, so I’m going to be leading class today. I’m Natasha your graduate assistant,” the redhead introduces herself.
She throws a glance your way and you cross your arms over your chest. Of course she got the job. Dr. Banner practically drools over her.
Natasha starts going over the syllabus with the class and dives into the material. You don’t say a word the entire lecture. She notices.
“I will see you all tomorrow,” Natasha says. Everyone gathers their things, but you’re stopped by her voice. “Can you hang back, y/n?”
You stay put and wait for your classmates to leave. Natasha leans against the desk and looks you over. You feel warm under her gaze.
“Are you not going to participate in class?” Nat asks.
“Not when you got the job I deserved,” you say.
“Ah,” Nat revels. “I’m sorry.”
You scoff at her words. She stands up straighter. You don’t miss the way her dress hugs her hips as she does so.
“I am sorry. Even if you don’t believe me. We both applied for the job. It’s not personal,” Nat says.
“You only got the job because Banner wants to fuck you.”
“How dare you?” Nat says. She invades your space and you’re overcome by the scent of her. “Maybe Bruce wants to sleep with me, which never ever will happen. But I got this job because I’m qualified for it. I worked for it. Do not reduce me to something that man wants.”
You don’t really know how to reply. You know everything she said is true and you feel bad for even questioning her qualification.
“Are you going to say anything?” Nat asks.
“I’m sorry. I’ll participate in class tomorrow,” you say.
Natasha backs away from you and gathers her papers from the desk.
“Good. Your grade depends on it and I’d hate for a pretty girl like you to fail this class,” she says. Her tone changed and for the first time you really think you might be attracted to her.
You leave the classroom and meet up with your classmates to do your homework. The next couple of weeks go by pretty smoothly. You participate and find Natasha to be tolerable despite her position.
She wears dresses and button ups that threaten to distract you, but you keep trying to fight your attraction to her.
It’s one week before finals when you meet up with your classmates to study.
But at some point the study session turns into a drinking game.
You’re a few shots in when your friend Yelena walks in the door. She’s been home for the summer, so you haven’t seen her.
“Yelena!” You pull her into a hug and kiss her cheeks.
“Hi drunk, y/n,” she says, chuckling at your over affectionate self. “I brought Nat hope that’s cool.”
Before you can reply, Yelena is off to talk to her girlfriend. Natasha appears behind her. She’s wearing a light blue button up shirt and khakis. She is wearing what she had on in class today and she looks so good.
“This doesn’t look like studying,” Natasha says, taking in the scene. There are people everywhere drinking and chatting.
“You want a drink?” You ask her, ignoring her comment.
She nods and you grab her a beer. You get pulled away to play a game and beer pong, but after you win you try and find Nat again.
She’s outside and you bring her another drink. Nat accepts it easily, getting a little buzz of her own.
“You look good,” she tells you. It catches you off guard.
“Oh, thanks. You look good too,” you tell her. And she does. She’s undone some of her shirt buttons and her bra peaks out just a bit from her shirt.
“Thank you, y/n,” Nat says. It’s dark but you think you see her blush. It’s quiet for a moment as the two of you stand together. She breaks the silence. “I forgot you were friends with my sister.”
“Oh yeah. Yelena and I have been friends since freshman year. She’s great.”
“I’m inclined to agree. Do you think Kate is good for her?” Nat asks. It’s already the longest conversation you’ve ever had with the woman.
You nod. “They’re both really happy.”
“Good,” Nat says. “What about you? Are you seeing anyone?”
“Nope,” you say. “Although my friend’s brother is into me, so it is nice to be crushed on.”
Natasha chuckles and takes a sip of her beer. You notice the way her neck flexes as she leans it back and swallows the drink.
“You’re so beautiful,” you blurt out, feeling unfiltered from the shots you took earlier. “I mean- yeah you’re beautiful and I’m annoyed by your academic success but I also find you incredibly attractive.”
She smirks at your rambling. Natasha shifts closer to you. Her lips hover over yours.
“I also find you attractive,” Natasha says. “And I really want to kiss you right now.”
“Please.”
Natasha closes the distance and kisses you. Her empty hand comes to the back of your neck to deepen the kiss. When her tongue moves into your mouth, you feel weak in your knees.
“My bedroom is upstairs,” you tell her once you break for air.
“Let’s go,” she says.
You take her hand and pull her through the crowded rooms to your bedroom. She closes the door behind herself and kisses you again. And again and again.
“I want you,” you tell her. “I thought about this when you were up there teaching today.”
“Oh yeah?” Nat asks. She kisses your neck and bites against your skin gently.
“Mhm, I don’t remember what the lesson was about.”
Natasha smirks against your neck and slips her hand under your shirt. Her strong hand moves over your side and pushes your shirt up. She stops kissing you long enough to slip the shirt over your head.
“Fuck you’re gorgeous,” Natasha says as her eyes rake over your body.
The two of fall back into your bed. You reach for her hips to pull her closer. She straddles your hips and kisses you again. You begin to unbutton her shirt and you leave a kiss to her exposed skin with every button.
When you open the shirt completely, you waste no time unclasping the bra that had just barely been showing earlier.
“Oh Natasha,” you say before you take her nipple into your mouth. She moans at the feeling.
“I get the feeling you don’t hate me,” Natasha says as she begins unbuttoning your pants. You continue your efforts against her chest.
“Not right now I don’t,” you say. She smirks and slips a hand into your pants. You can imagine how wet you are down there.
Nat pulls her chest away from your lips and moves down the bed. She slips your pants off and takes off her own. Her red lacy panties don’t leave much to your imagination.
“Fuck me,” you mumble. She chuckles and lays on her stomach, settling between your legs. She kisses the dark spot against your underwear, teasing you with her hands on your thighs.
“You’re so wet for me, baby. God I love it,” she says. “You don’t know how many times I imagined you just like this. All spread out for me.” She drops kisses to your thighs as she slips your underwear off your legs.
“You imagined this?” You ask her.
Nat pauses and moves back up your body. She hovers over you with her arms on either side of you. Leaning down she stops just short of your lips.
“I’ve imagined this. I’ve wanted you for so long. I had to take care of myself every night after class because I couldn’t get you out of my head,” Natasha explains.
You pull her lips to yours and kiss her until you’re dizzy. She grins and moves back to her previous spot.
“Fuck Natasha,” you moan as she dives right in this time. You’re not embarrassed for how wet you are for her. It makes you feel so good how she basks in the pleasure of you.
She uses her fingers to work around the edges of your folds and her tongue licks and sucks expertly. She’s definitely done this before.
When your legs begin to shake, she knows you’re close but she doesn’t stop her ministrations. She goes faster, adding a finger to work in tandem with her tongue.
“Nat,” you whisper, pleasure keeping you from being any louder. “Please.”
“Let go, detka,” she says. Her deep voice vibrates against you and cum hard against her tongue.
Natasha keeps her lips on you until you’re pushing on her head to ask for a break. She kisses your hips, stomach, and breasts as she makes her way to your face again.
“Are you okay?” She asks. Her hand rests on your cheek, it feels so loving, so soft.
“I’m- I feel amazing,” you tell her. She smiles and brushes her thumb over your face.
You kiss her softly, but the want for her takes over quickly and you’re pulling her onto you again. You slip off her panties and can’t help the gasp that you let out. Her body is just so perfect.
She moves her hips against you and moans when your leg falls between hers. You feel her wetness against your leg.
“I’m going to ride your thigh, baby,” Natasha says. You’re not going to say no to that.
You reach for her hips and help her move against you. She’s above you, her perfect breasts moving with every thrust of her hips.
“Come for me, Natasha. Show me how you thought about me each night after class,” you say. You know the talking is working when Nat has to fight to keep her hips going. “You’re so hot right now. Being so good for me.”
“Fuck,” she mumbles.
“That’s it, sweetheart. I thought about you when I touched myself too, Nat. Keep going.”
Her movements become more erratic and she’s coming on your thigh. It’s the hottest thing you’ve ever seen.
Once Natasha’s recovered, she lays next to you and you reach for her hand. She grips yours back easily.
“How do you feel?” You ask her, turning your head to face her. She’s got her eyes closed, and when she opens then you’re lost in the sea of green.
“I feel like I’m dangerously close to falling in love with you,” Natasha admits.
“Is that a bad thing?” You ask.
“No,” Nat says with a smirk. “But technically I am your teacher.”
“Yeah, that’s true. Well, maybe you can give me an A on my exam then?”
Natasha laughs and leans in to kiss your forehead.
“It was worth a shot,” you joke. “Really, I like you so much.”
“I like you so much, too. The class is over in a week and then we can go out,” Nat says. “If you’d like to,” she adds shyly.
“Of course,” you say. “Would you like to stay tonight? I mean it’s already late and you live across campus and-“
“Yes,” Nat interrupts your rambling. “I think technically this would still count as the same evening so we could-“
You cut her off with a kiss. The kind that is definitely going to lead to more. When you pull away, Nat is smiling mischievously.
“Oh, you’re definitely getting an A for tonight,” Natasha says.
“I haven’t even taken the exam yet,” you climb onto her and she giggles happily. It’s the most carefree you’ve ever seen her.
You sink down onto the mattress and settle between her legs.
“I get it,” Nat says aloud. “An oral exam.”
You share a long laugh with her. Mostly because you didn’t even mean to make that reference. But when you bury your face between her legs, suddenly everything becomes clear about how you feel about her.
And you know that you want her more than anything else in the world.

Going back to California the following semester was harder than you imagined. You’d grown accustomed to being near your parents and Tony again. It was a big adjustment leaving them once more, and somehow it felt bigger than last year. Then again you were actually excited to leave at that point. “Come on Y/n!!! Your flight leaves in a couple of hours. You can’t miss it again.” You groaned and nodded. You’ve been ready for the past five hours. You were just waiting to leave. “I get it mom. I’m not missing this flight.” Your mother and father had been very accommodating the last couple of months. “You will feel better once you get back into your routine.” She encouraged. You smiled. “I know... I’m just going to miss you guys.” You said softly. “We miss you around here too but you’ve got your whole life ahead of you.” You nodded. Your mother knew everything now and she was grateful that you’d finally found the way to speak to her. “You don’t have to see her if you’re not ready.” She said this time with confidence. She didn’t dislike Natasha, but you were her daughter, and anyone who made you cry was immediately on her shortlist. “I don’t want to get into it right now…” You said finally gathering your things from your room.
Natasha had returned to California sooner than she had expected, she couldn’t handle the pitiful looks her family would give her any time they crossed paths. Given they currently all slept under the same roof it happened often. When she finally exploded and managed to ask her family what was wrong with them, you’d come up. “We just... we just don’t know what to say to you.” She sighed. “And you haven’t said anything, we’ve heard the Maximoff boy passed, and you haven’t said anything.” Alexi said exasperated. Clearly, he was troubled, and as much as Melina tried to keep a straight face Natasha could tell it was eating at her too. Yelena on the other hand had an annoyed look on her face. “She’s screwed up somehow…” She said it like it was obvious. Natasha glared at the younger girl. “Come on!!! Y/n’s friend died and even now y/n can’t even look at her.” The words hurt to hear, but ultimately her sister was right. “Those kinds of things bring people together…” She mumbled going back to picking at her food. Natasha managed to swallow the lump in her throat and nodded. “She’s angry at me right now. Things weren’t going well, and then everything with Pietro happened… and I made a mistake.” She sighed, her feelings finally catching up with her. “A big mistake, one that I can’t take back.”
She flew to California two weeks before she had to go...
Being back now, things felt very different this time around. Your excessive partying was under control, no more drinking on random Tuesday nights, and more focusing on your school work. Your visits back home were more and more frequent, and you liked it. It was peaceful back home and spending time with Tony and Peter was always a good time. Yelena would hang out every once in a while things were awkward, as you still weren’t on speaking terms with her sister, but she didn’t push it so you were grateful. There were still moments of grief, your mind still couldn’t wrap around how he could be gone. It still managed to keep you up on long nights. But overall you’d actually managed to make more friends which you honestly thought was a miracle. Who would’ve thought that having a healthy social life could lead to that? Your sorority sisters were also not half bad; they were lovely girls who were very relatable. Things were good, you weren’t going to lie. That was until you managed to find yourself at a soccer sporting event your college was hosting. You thought things would be fine, nothing could go wrong. That was until you realized who was actually playing in this game. A friendly game between Berkeley and Stanford.
There’s a lot of people you thought, no way she spots you. Wrong, you were incredibly wrong. Your friends had snagged the closest seats to the pitch that they could. “Y/n you alright? Is something wrong?” You’d heard your new friend Kate ask from beside you. You swallowed lightly and nodded. “My ex, or ex-friend is on the other team.” You managed to explain. Kate immediately jumped into action. “Y/n we can leave right now, If I’d known I wouldn’t have suggested coming.” She was stumbling over her words and the things she’s started gathering at this point you chuckled lightly. “It’s fine, and no we aren’t leaving. Our outing does not have to be ruined. I’m sure everything will be fine.”
Everything was not fine.
Twenty minutes into the game you’d already heard Natasha’s name more than you cared to. Kate noticed the grimace every time so she took it into her hands quite literally. You were startled as you felt her arm wrap around you. Then suddenly all sounds were muffled. You smiled at the girl's attempt to make the situation better. “You don’t have to do that.” You chuckled. “Nonsense I shall remedy the situation.” You laughed, you could still hear everything but it was the thought that counts. You hadn’t really realized the implications of seeing Natasha and her team. As they scored goals you managed to catch their celebrations and some interactions. You weren’t proud of the feeling but you were jealous. You couldn’t help but hope the players would trip the other girl. Your eyes were plastered on the bold letters on the back of her shirt “HILL” Suddenly you weren’t jealous, just angry. A blinding rage, conveniently the taunting chants had started to pick up in the stands and your shouts were very much welcomed and even expected.
Kate was flabbergasted. Your mood had miraculously picked up, but still, she felt somewhat relieved. That was until one corner kick where an all too familiar redhead was now walking towards. A clear view of you and Kate with her arm still around you. The look sent her way was not one she’d normally receive, she picked up on the context embarrassingly late. Too late to just remove her arm. She was the Ex. Unconsciously her arm squeezed you. “Please don’t tell me that is her.” The girl said leaning into your ear. You simply nodded. After that interaction, the mood was detrimentally brought down. So much so that the both of you walked out mid-game not speaking a word. Once you were both out you sighed. “I’m sorry I shouldn’t have made you stay.” You shook your head. “You didn’t know. Plus I had fun for a while back there.” Kate sighed. “I just you’ve been through a lot these past couple of months. I wanted to distract you for a little while.” She explained her hands moved as she spoke. “And somehow I managed to drag you right back in the middle of it.” You laughed. “Somethings just can’t be avoided.”
You both walked off to a bench near the stadium. “What happened with her?” She asked curiously. You sighed. It was complicated… you’d tried to justify it in any way you really could. “She cheated when everything with Pietro was happening.” Kate couldn’t hide the shock. You nodded letting her take it in. “I wanted to come back and fix things with her and I found her In bed with someone else that happens to be her team captain.” Kate nodded. “Let's go back to your place and you can tell me everything.” You smiled. “Only if you buy pizza!” She smiled and quickly nodded.
You find yourself sprawled on your couch and telling Kate everything that has happened since senior year. Re-living the hardest moments Kate hugged you. “It must have been a hard loss. I’m sorry you went through it alone.” Her words hit you. And tears start rolling down your cheeks. “It just all happened so fast it was like a dream.” You sighed. “Then I was at a funeral holding my ex-best friend's hand through it all.” You wiped your tears. “And then she didn’t need me anymore, sent me on my way…” Sadness was an emotion you’d become well acquainted with. “Then I came back here, and the girl I was currently seeing…”
You took another slice of pizza. “I am sad.” You settled. Sobs started raking through you before you could stop them. Kate’s arm settled around you softly pulling you in. “And I’m so, so, so unbelievably angry.” The slice was now forgotten. “At Natasha, and Wanda, and most of all Pietro.” You sobbed. “No one was there for you?” You shook your head. Of course, they were, Tony and Pepper were more than happy to speak with you. Your parents had tried to help you to the best of their ability. “Everything was just so fresh, and then life kept going and I kept rolling with it.” Kate hummed, rubbing your arm. “And now I just feel empty all the time.” You sighed pulling away. “I wake up and it's the same thing as the day before, and everything just still doesn’t feel real.” Kate nodded, moving to wipe your tears away. “I wish I had the right words for you.” She sounded conflicted. “But I can offer my support, and whenever you need me I’ll be here.”
A loud knock resonated in your apartment. You sighed. “It’s probably my neighbor.” You spoke softly. As soon as you opened the door it was pushed in. “What the…” The sight before you was ethereal. There she was still in her uniform, her braids disheveled. Sweat clinging to her skin. That was as far as you got when she noticed your tear-stained face. Your puffy eyes. You saw when her eyes landed on Kate. You saw the fire in her eyes, the determination as she charged Kate. You were almost too shocked to move… almost. “What did you do to her!” She pointed an accusing finger, at the girl. Who to her detriment only opened and closed her mouth like a fish out of water. Guilty written all over her face. It almost happened too fast, Kate however did have a survival instinct it seemed. Managing to place herself behind you. “Y/n please explain…” She mumbled into your ear. Natasha’s eyes were locked on Kate faltering at the closeness with you. “What are you doing here Natasha?” You asked, not sure if you wanted to hear the answer.
Her fists were clenched at her side, and her breaths were shallow. “I wanted to speak to you.” She said matter of factly. “So you barge into my apartment, and threaten my friend?” Your words came out more cutting than you thought they would. “I think you should leave.” You feel Kate grasp your hand keeping you from moving. You didn’t take another step. The hurt that flashed on Natasha’s face made your heart clench. She slowly nodded, moving towards the door. She managed to walk out. “Wait here.” You ordered Kate as you quickly ran out. She was still in the hallway, her head leaning on the wall banging softly against it. The soft click of the door pulled her out of her thoughts. Then for the first time in months, you stood in front of the girl. Nobody and nothing in between the two of you. You almost felt relief, there was still a silent comfort in the girl's presence. She inhaled slowly. “I can’t…” She started, her emotions were catching up to her. “I can’t… Keep going on like this.” She wiped the tears that were beginning to roll down her cheeks.
“I can’t not have you in my life Y/n.” You closed your eyes at her words. “I didn’t come all the way back from Russia to not be in your life.” She said her exasperation shining through. She stepped closer to you, her lips ghosting yours. “I know I made a mistake.” You let out a shaky breath at the proximity. It took everything in you not to give in to push it further. “We were about to break up…” You murmured softly. “You were about to break up with me…” You let your words hang in the silence. “We weren't working.” You settled, and finally took a step back. The tears that had subsided earlier came back with a vengeance. “And then… you left me alone. To go through one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to endure.” You sighed. “If it were me in your position… that wouldn’t have happened.” You settled finally letting the words you wanted to say out. She closed her eyes knowing your words held true, you’d done as much for Wanda. Even after months of not speaking to her. She didn’t even have to ask. “You threw it in my face, Natasha…” She nodded. You cleared your throat. “I’m not the one who slept with someone else.” You shuffled further away from her. “We were basically broken up.” You rubbed your temples. “Still…” You mumbled hurt flashing in your eyes.
She flinched at the words coming out of your mouth. “It was a mistake.” She was completely aware of how pathetic her words sounded. “One, and now…” She looked to the door behind you. “Please, we were friends before we were anything else.” You sighed. “My friend would have showed up when Pietro died.” Your tears were blurring your vision, and you harshly wiped them away. “Those were your choices, Natasha.” You sighed. “I am trying my hardest to forgive you, not for sleeping with someone else, but for leaving me alone.” You scoffed. “I’m trying to be here for you now.” She looked genuine, and you nodded. “Too late.” Your tears stopped, and you were left with only an empty feeling. You looked at her, her shoulders were slumped. Her eyes were downcast, defeated. You relented. “Next time don’t bang on my door, don’t threaten my friends, don’t barge into my home… you have no right to.” You weren’t looking at her. You didn’t let her speak either. “We’re not talking about it, about him… nothing will happen between you and me.” You took a deep breath in. You turned slowly back to the door and walked in. You sighed when the door clicked behind you.
Kate immediately rushed you. “Are you okay?” She was inspecting you. “Did she hurt you? What did she say? I can take her!” You chuckled at the thought. “I’m sure you’d try.” You assured her. “No, she didn’t hurt me… I’m sorry she charged you.” You apologized to the girl. “No, no It’s okay I’m glad I was here. I feel better because you aren’t alone.” She squeezed your shoulder. “What did you tell her?” She asked after a beat. You sighed deflating, and leaned into her hold on you. “I told her I’d give her a chance as friends… nothing more.” You mumbled into her chest. She chuckled. “You’re holding out on her?” She questioned. “Noo, yes… I don’t know. She looked so hot…” You confessed, and Kate laughed, fully and unabashedly. “I agree, It was hot when she yelled at me like she did.” You huffed out a breath. “I know.” She hummed fully pulling you into her arms. “Want to get drunk and forget about your problems?” You nodded softly.
The night was spent like that. Drinking the cheap alcohol you had still lying around your apartment. Which looking back was a horrible idea. You confirmed as much when you woke up naked next to the girl, still snoring softly beside you. Then immediately after the pounding in your head wanted to be noticed you groaned. “Jesus.” You all but yelled. “Be quiet please.” Kate shuffled beside you. “You’re up?” You questioned, you kept your eyes closed, you weren’t sure why but you did. “I’ve been up, my head hurts when I move. We drank too much.” She settled. “I’d say so.” You could barely remember ending up in bed with her. The more you tried the more the memories flashed in your head. “Last night?” You asked and she hummed. “No strings…” She said after a beat. “Good.” You sighed somewhat relieved. “Don’t sound too relieved, I’m a catch.” She almost sounded offended. You chuckled. “I’m sorry, I mean… Darnnn it.” You let her chuckle. “We’re still friends, right? It’s not going to be awkward?” She moved her hand to hold yours. “I’m a big girl, you are too. I’m sure we can handle casual sex.” You nodded.
You could not handle casual sex with Kate. It’d been a week and you were still avoiding the girl. It was harder than you originally thought, more so when you realized you ran in the same circles. You could not go a single evening without hearing the girl's name. Then you’d run into the other single person you didn’t feel ready to see. “Nat?” You questioned as you were walking out of your class. She looked hopeful when her eyes landed on you. You missed her eyes. You shook your head softly pushing the thought aside. “What are you doing here?” She cleared her throat softly. “I was calling… uhm but you weren’t picking up.” You then hit yourself on the head. “I’m sorry… I got a...” You were going to lie but you decided against it. “Nope, sorry I forgot I blocked you.” She raised her brow. “Well, I came to look for you. I didn’t know your classes, and since you said not to barge into your apartment. I figured I'd find you if I lingered here long enough.” You were about to reply when you heard the voice of a girl behind you.
“Are you done avoiding me?” Kate asked, her hand reaching out to turn you to face her. “I’ve been busy Kate, I’m not avoiding you.” You winced. Your eyes widened, motioning to the girl now behind you. She shifted slightly to get a better look at her. She quickly moved back to face you, nodding along with you. “Well, you know me, can’t go more than a day without hearing from you.” She shrugged and you put your head on your hand. Natasha cleared her throat behind you. You turned to face her again. “Natasha this is Kate, Kate this is Natasha.” You introduced them both. “Good to finally properly meet you.” Kate extended her hand. Natasha’s jaw clenched but she still nodded along, extending her hand to greet the girl. “Likewise.” She forced a smile for the girl. “Ok, well I’ll leave you to it.” She said, stepping away. She then looked at you, her eyes pleading. “Call me, please.” You nodded softly. “I will.”
“That’s new…” Natasha murmured as you both watched Kate walk away, stumbling through everyone on her path. You sighed. “I told you not to harass my friends.” You said not looking at her. “Your friend… right.” You scoffed. “Natasha… We are not doing this.” You left no room for discussion. She sobered at your tone and sighed letting out a soft breath. “I’m sorry.” You nodded. “Why are you here?” You asked after a beat of silence. “Well, I uhm… I wanted to invite you to lunch.” You hummed. “I’m free.” You said walking ahead of her. She scrambled to catch up to you. The walk was rather silent. The small cafe you walked to had grown on you after many visits. “Y/n!” The barista greeted you after you walked in. “Hey!” You waved enthusiastically, soon after looking for a suitable table. “Do you come here often?” You heard Natasha ask. You nodded. “I like that it’s empty most of the time.” You explained. “How have you been?” You watched as the question slipped out of her mouth. You watched as she braced. “Hello, what can I get for you both today?”
You’d never been more grateful for an interruption. You smiled at the girl you’d come to know over the past months. “Claire Hi, Uhm I’d like my usual no coffee today though juice will do.” She nodded, jotting it down. She then turned to Natasha whose eyes were already trained on the woman. “I’ll have what she’s having.” She said with a deadpan look on her face. Claire nodded looking between the two of you, she looked back at you. You gave her a tight smile. “I’ll see you at the rally later?” She decided to ask after a beat. “Yes.” You answered swiftly. Then again as she was about to walk away she stopped in her tracks. “Kate’s been asking for you.” She probed again. You grimaced, nodding along. “Yes, I just spoke to her.” Claire nodded. “Good.” She said simply this time, thankfully actually walking away. “Where were we?” You turned back to Natasha, who now sported an annoyed look on her face.
“I asked how you were.” She stated again this time with no hesitation in her question. You, equally as annoyed, answered her question. “The brunt of it has passed Natasha. I am fine.” She flinched at your words. “I-I didn’t mean it like that.” You hummed. “I did.” You said looking down at your hands. “If you are worried, you shouldn't be.” When your food was delivered there was another stretch of silence. Claire this time seemed to notice the tension and cleared away quickly. “I do worry.” She said softly. “Natasha, it’s too late for you to worry.” You settled. “I needed you when the pain was so unbearable it hurt to breathe. Even after everything, when I came back… Had you come home, come to me?” You held your fork tightly in your hand. “I needed my best friend, not my girlfriend.” Natasha took your blunt words in stride. “You worrying now does nothing for me.” You settled. Natasha nodded. “How have you been?” You asked after a beat, it only seemed fair. “Be honest.” You added after you watched her hesitate. “Lonely.” She settled after a minute.
You nodded. “Still studying 24/7 I see?” You asked, attempting to lighten the mood even if only slightly. She hummed. “That and practice.” You nodded your mind flashing to Maria. You swallowed down the feeling. “You still partying?” She asked casually, still picking at her food. You shook your head. “It’s not really a sustainable practice.” You said chuckling. “I’ve made a lot of good friends, now that I’m sober at sorority events.” You said. Natasha actually laughed at that. “Who would’ve thought?” She asked rhetorically. “Not me, that's for sure.” You sighed. “Did you win the game last weekend?” She nodded softly. “I scored twice.” She said pulling out two fingers. You smiled… She’d won the game and right after went looking for you. “Why are you lonely then?” You asked after a beat, not understanding. “I just haven’t really been able to make friends.” You nodded. “You should come to my birthday party.”
Famous last words.
“I would love to!”

“You’re not serious.”
You shrugged, looking over yourself in the mirror. Natasha sat cross-legged on her bed, disappointment visible on her pouting face. You turned to face her, wearing your baggiest pair of sweatpants and a hoodie. Your hair was up in a very messy bun, and you were still debating on putting the hood on to cover it up.
“I am not interested in becoming just another notch on Bucky Barnes’ bedpost. If this doesn’t get the point across, I don’t know what will.”
Natasha just blinked, and you sighed as you walked over to sit on her bed.
“Hey.”
You looked back to her, meeting her eyes, seeing the soft smile on her face.
“I’ve never seen him act the way he does around you.”
Just that day, Bucky had appeared while you and Natasha were eating lunch on the quad. He’d sat beside her, but all of his focus had been on you. Teasing you, making both you and Natasha laugh, and reminding you of the date you swore wasn’t a date that night. You shook your head.
“You’ve known him for like a month.” “Long enough to see how he acts. He puts on just enough charm to melt the girls, gets what he wants, and that’s it. Not that he’s selfish or a dick or anything. The girls clearly enjoy it so—“ “So he’s a manwhore.” “Hey.”
Nat sat up.
“We do not slut shame in this house.”
You nodded and she reached to pat your hand.
“Just make it clear to him that you’re not going to have sex with him. I think he’s a good enough guy to respect that. If nothing else, you can be friends.” “Guys and girls cannot be just friends, Nat.” “What about Bruce? He and I are friends.” “You kissed in junior high.” “And that’s how we decided to just be friends.”
She stopped, then nodded.
“I see what you’re saying.”
You laughed, glancing at the clock beside your bed. Before you could say anything, there was a knock at the door. You got up and answered it, feeling your whole body heat when Bucky gave you a slow once-over. He nodded, smiling as he met your eyes.
“I’m so glad you didn’t dress up for me, Pidge.”
You had a flash where you felt a little bad, but before you could say anything, Bucky motioned with his head, holding the door open.
“Let’s go. I’ll have her back at a decent hour, Nat.” “Too bad.”
Bucky chuckled at Natasha’s low purr. He held out his hand and almost without thinking, you put your hand in his. Once the door had closed behind you, Bucky kept hold of your hand as the two of you started down the stairs.
“This isn’t a date.” “Whatever you say, pigeon.”
You tried to pull your hand back, but he only adjusted his grip. He glanced at you, a devastating smile on his face.
“Friends hold hands sometimes.” “Oh, we’re friends now?”
Bucky nodded as he held the door open for you. The two of you walked out of the dorm and into the parking lot.
“You came to see me fight. Bet on me and won. We partied, and I poured you into bed when you went a little hard in the paint.”
You moved your free hand to smack your forehead and Bucky chuckled.
“You were a cute drunk, Pidge.” “I don’t usually drink that much and I don’t know why I did the other night.” “Hey, you don’t have to justify anything to me.”
He let go of your hand to hold the door open for you, and you stayed beside the door as he jogged down the steps to a motorcycle.
“Come on, Pidge. It’s too far to walk.” “I’m not riding on that.” “Yes, you are. I’ve got you a helmet and everything.”
You shook your head, eyes wide as you stared at the bike. Bucky sighed as he climbed off the bike, carrying a helmet as he jogged back to you.
“Come on. I don’t have a car. It’s the bike or nothing.” “I’m going to pick nothing. See you later.”
You turned to leave, but he grabbed onto your wrist, holding steady.
“Breathe, pigeon. Your heart is racing. Are you scared?” “No!”
You answered way too quickly, and the smile on Bucky’s face was anything but mocking, which you were expecting.
“Pidge, hey. Look at me.”
You did, and his gentle smile helped you take a deep breath.
“I’m not going to let anything happen to you.” “You don’t know that for sure.” “I’m going to do my damnedest. You’re safe with me, pigeon.”
You swallowed, looking towards the bike.
“I’ve never ridden one before.” "Nothing to it. You just hold onto me and I’ll get us where we need to go.”
You tore your eyes from the bike to meet his, and you closed your eyes as he slid the helmet on your head, buckling it under your chin. He held your hand as the two of you walked to the bike, and once he straddled it, he walked you through climbing on. You wrapped your arms around his chest like he told you to do, and when he started up the bike, you squealed and slid closer to him. He laughed, lifting a hand to touch your wrists, sliding his finger between your wrists and his chest, loosening your death grip.
“Just breathe.”
He had to yell to be heard over the bike, and since your heart was in your throat, you gave his torso a squeeze in response. You felt rather than heard him chuckle, and you tightened your hold as the bike started moving. You kept your eyes closed, resting your cheek against Bucky’s leather jacket. At one point, he moved a hand to give your knee a gentle squeeze, and you finally opened your eyes when the bike came to a stop.
Neither you or Bucky moved, but that was mainly because you couldn’t get your arms to unlock from around him. He moved to take his helmet off, shaking out his hair, then patting your hands, which were locked over his heart.
“It’s okay, Pidge. You can let go.”
You swallowed, your brain telling your arms to relax, but your arms weren’t listening.
“Or you can keep holding onto me. I really don’t mind.”
You swallowed again, hands shaking as you finally pulled them apart. Bucky took hold of one, rubbing it gently, lacing his fingers through yours and maneuvering your wrist around. He did the same with your other hand, climbing off the bike and turning to face you. He gave a quiet laugh as he unfastened your helmet, murmuring softly at your quiet gasp when the tightness of the helmet disappeared from your temples. You stared up at him and he smiled, cupping your face in his hands.
“Just breathe.”
You did, staring into his pale blue eyes. He held your gaze with one side of his lips turned up in a smirk and you shook your head to break the trance. You climbed off the bike, stumbling into his waiting arms.
“Easy, Pidge. Your equilibrium might be off for a bit.” “I’m … I’m fine.” “Just take a second.”
You did, since your heart was still racing, and your head was spinning a bit. Bucky lifted a hand to cup the back of your head, holding you close, and you decided to allow it, just for a second.
“You’ll love this place. You’re not lactose intolerant, are you?”
You shook your head, stepping back from his embrace. He reached to take your hand, leading you into the restaurant. The lighting inside was dim, red checkered tablecloths on all of the tables. A few people called out hello as Bucky waved, pointing and smiling as he led you to a booth near a window. You slid into the booth, touching the holder where salt, pepper, red pepper flakes, and Parmesan cheese sat. Bucky laid a menu in front of you, nodding at it when you looked at him.
“You can order something if you want, or you can trust me.” “I don’t even know you.”
He grinned.
“That’s why we’re here, right?” “It’s not a date.” “Did I say it was?”
You raised an eyebrow, the smile never fading from his face.
“I just said dinner. You’re the one assuming.” “I am not!”
He chuckled, leaning back and spreading his arms over the back of his side of the booth. You rolled your eyes before looking down at the menu.
“The Alfredo is fucking divine. The lasagna will make you want to kiss the chef, and Antonia's friendly enough to let you.”
You bit your lip to stop the smile you wanted to give, studying the menu as you spoke.
“What do you get?”
“You gonna trust me, Pidge?”
You raised an eyebrow as you lifted your eyes to his. He grinned again as he bounced his eyebrows, and you couldn’t help but smile as you rolled your eyes. You closed the menu, pushing it towards him.
“Alright, Barnes. I’m all in.”
“Don’t tease me with poker terms, Pidge. You’ll make me declare my love for you right here and now.”
You swallowed the terror that suddenly appeared at the back of your throat, wishing you had a glass of water. As if he could read your mind, a waiter appeared at the table with two glasses of water and a basket of bread.
“Signore Barnes! Molto bene, good to see you! Antonia was wondering when we would see you again. And who is this bellissima?”
You widened your eyes when Bucky said your actual name to the waiter. He winked at you as he continued to talk.
“She’s new here, so we’ve got to treat her right, si?” “Oh, certamente! Let me go talk to chef and we will take care of you!”
The waiter left in a hurry, and you waited for Bucky to turn his eyes to you.
“So you do know my name.” “And that will be the only time you hear me use it, pigeon.”
You pursed your lips.
“Am I annoying to you? Is that why you call me pigeon?”
Bucky smiled.
“No, that’s not why. I’ll tell you one day, if you’re lucky.”
You rolled your eyes, but smiled. Bucky laced his hands together, leaning forward and resting his elbows on the table.
“So, pigeon. Tell me more about you.” "No.” “If you want me to just sit here and look at you, I can.” “Oh my god, do any of these lines ever work for you?” “To tell you the truth, I don’t usually need a line.”
You reached for your glass of water.
“Girls just fall at your feet?” “Honestly? Yes.”
You didn’t spit out the sip you’d just taken, which was surprising to you. You turned wide eyes to him and Bucky shrugged his shoulders.
“I’m not trying to be obnoxious, but I know how I look, Pidge. I put a lot of work into it. Girls happen to appreciate it and I appreciate them. That sometimes falls into a category we can both find mutually beneficial.”
You slowly nodded, taking another sip of your drink in the short silence.
“So you sleep around?” “In a manner of speaking, yes.”
You laced your fingers together and leaned forward, copying his positioning.
“I’m not going to sleep with you.” “Never say never, pigeon.”
You shook your head.
“How do you feel about girls who sleep around?”
Bucky shrugged his shoulders.
“Long as everybody’s on board, who cares? If it makes you happy and it’s not hurting anyone, you do you.”
You pursed your lips and Bucky leaned forward, a smile on his mouth.
“I’m no sexist, Pidge. Nice try on attempting to catch me, though.”
You tried to stifle the smile, but you couldn’t help it when Bucky chuckled.
“As you’ve said a few times now, you don’t know me. But, I don’t know you either.”
Bucky glanced over at the bread basket before looking back to you.
“I was raised by a good man and a good woman who let me think for myself, but steered me in the right directions. I’m not so full of myself that I think I’m God’s gift to women, fucking whoever I can while a woman doing the same thing is a slut. What’s good for the goose and all that. If you want to sleep around and you enjoy it, go for it.”
He smiled as he leaned closer to you, giving you a wink.
“And let me go ahead and volunteer for that.”
You groaned as you leaned back, and Bucky laughed from across the table. You shook your head as you leaned forward again.
“I am not sleeping with you.” “Now, or ever?” “Ever.”
Bucky tilted his head to the side.
“Aw, come on, Pidge. Don’t be like that.”
You rolled your eyes until he reached across the table, laying his hand on your wrist. He opened his mouth, closing it and pulling his hand back as the waiter appeared back at the table with two plates in his hand.
“Chef insisted. And you better make sure to share with bellissima, capice?”
Bucky nodded as he smiled at the waiter. The man set a plate before Bucky and another before you, then clasped his hands together.
“Buon appetito.”
You looked at Bucky as the waiter walked away, and he picked up a fork, stabbing at the slab of lasagna on his plate.
“Oh my god, Pidge. You’ve got to taste this.”
You blinked at the sudden rush of heat in your belly, shaking your head as you picked up your own fork. You studied the pasta before you, twirling some around your fork and sliding it into your mouth.
“Oh my God.” “Right?”
You gave a happy moan as you twirled more pasta, closing your eyes as you chewed. You opened your eyes to see Bucky staring at you, empty fork poised above his plate.
“What?”
He shook his head, clearing his throat.
“Noth—nothing. Here.”
He cut a bit of lasagna onto his fork, holding a hand under it as he leaned across the table. You looked at the fork, then at him, leaning forward while keeping your eyes locked on his and eating the bite he was offering. You watched his jaw go slack, giving a soft moan as you chewed.
“This food is fantastic.”
Bucky slowly nodded.
“Yeah, the … the food is … it’s good.”
You bit your tongue to keep from laughing out loud. You twirled some more pasta, eating as you felt Bucky’s eyes on you. After a moment, you twirled some pasta onto your fork and held it out.
“Want some?”
Bucky swallowed.
“More than you could imagine.”
You gave a soft laugh at that, but it trailed off as he leaned over, taking the bite from your fork and chewing slowly.
“Damn good, Pidge.”
You nodded, flustered as you looked back down at your plate. The two of you ate in silence, and you didn’t put up much of a fight when Bucky insisted on paying. Once you were outside, Bucky slid his hand into yours, steering you away from his motorcycle, towards the sidewalk. After a moment of silence, you spoke.
“I feel bad that you paid for everything on this non-date.” "Date or not, if I ask a woman to do something with me, I pay.” “Does that include—“ “No, Pidge, I do not pay for sex.”
You gave a quiet laugh as he smiled.
“Listen.”
You turned your head towards him, an expectant look on your face. Bucky stopped walking, moving in front of you, lifting the hand he was holding to his chest. With his other hand, he reached to slip a strand of hair that had fallen out of your bun behind your ear.
“You’ve got to feel something here. I can’t be the only one, right?”
You smiled, reaching up to push a piece of hair back behind his ear, just like he’d done for you.
“You feel something here because I haven’t fallen at your feet. Because I am definitely not going to bed with you. You’re not used to a challenge, and that’s why you think you’re feeling something here.”
He stared into your eyes as he slowly nodded.
“So it’s definitely a no, then?” “Definitely.”
Bucky nodded again, understanding filling his blue eyes as he moved your hands away from his chest, still keeping hold of your hand.
“I’m not one of those guys who’ll just keep hounding you ‘til I get you under me, Pidge. No means no, right?” “Right.” “Then … we’ll be friends?”
You cocked your head to the side as you studied him, and he smiled again.
“I mean, with Nat and Sam the way they are, we’re bound to be hanging out all the time. Might as well be friends since you’ve broken my heart.”
You smacked his chest and he laughed.
“I did not break your heart. Blue balls do not equal a broken heart.”
Bucky laughed again, letting go of your hand and throwing his arm around your shoulders.
“Oh, Pidge. This is the start of a beautiful friendship. I just know it.”

As the hundredth whine from your lips sounds out today, you are glad that no one else is home. You would be scolded for being more dramatic than Sam during that week after his concussion while simultaneously yelled at for doing too much when you should be resting.
The words have since long started to blur together and the pen is clutched tightly in your hand without even touching the paper for half an hour. You can't remember comprehending the change from afternoon sun to complete darkness outside of your window, but you do know that you have piled on three layers of clothes only to tear them off of your overheated body in the last hour.
Fucking fevers. It's incredible how you forget how absolutely horrible they are between each time, but battling this one seems especially miserable when you have a test in four days. Your roommates had begged you to come with them to this god awful long Lord of The Rings marathon at the local cinema, but you were stressed out about the test enough without losing a full day of studying.
You have gotten some things done. It's just that your room is drowning in tissues, and the pills you've taken haven't done shit and your back hurts from sitting for so long. What you really want to do is take your comforter out to the couch and open all the windows with the AC on full blast. No—what you actually want is to be rid of this fucking cold and sit lodged between Steve and Bucky at the cinema, warm hands on your thighs with an obscene amount of chocolate in your lap. You know that Bucky would whisper random facts about the movies in your ear during the entirety of it, and that Steve would give him angry glares for speaking in the theater.
God, if it weren't for your body's excessive temperature, you would kill for them to hold you. It would suck in reality, because both of them run hot and that is the last thing you need right now. But you miss them. You miss them all the time lately and it frustrates you, because six months ago things weren't like this. Steve and Bucky were two of your annoying, though very sweet, roommates who bickered like siblings constantly at ungodly hours in the morning and left dirty dishes out in the living room (thank fucking god Bucky has stopped doing that).
Now, you dream weird dreams about them at night and shiver everytime they touch you. Calling you by name has suddenly turned into 'sweetheart' and 'bug' (still can't quite figure that one out), while merely the sight of Steve unintentionally flexing his bicep and Bucky moving his metal fingers makes you want to escape into your room. It's hard, because they are pretty much doing that everyday.
Worst of all is your resentment towards Natasha—she caught on so quickly that you barely managed to slip out of Steve's room the night you slept over before she confronted you about your feelings. She very conveniently left out the bet she and Sam had set up, but Bucky found out about that two weeks later and pushed Sam into some bushes. The latter complained about how Bucky didn't cater to his 'bush-related trauma' for much too long after that.
But at the same time, she reinforces your delusions about them liking you back. They are very protective of you, sure, but so are Sam and Natasha. Actually, that might have something to do with your constant knack of getting into the trouble rather than harboring secret, unconditional love for you. Natasha says they look at you with puppy dog eyes, but you think they just always look like that. And the constant touching and pet names are just—it's just who they are. You think.
Another onslaught of heat crashes over your tired body, and you give up completely. There comes a point where even you can't force yourself to work anymore. It's too draining. Instead you gulp down another pill, turn off the lights and throw yourself onto your bed. You groan out of pleasure, but know that it will soon disappear only to be replaced by torturous discomfort.
Yeah, it's good that they aren't here. Gathering the energy to deal with a smug Sam and overbearing Natasha is not in your capacity.
Besides, facing them in this state feels embarrassing. You'll pull yourself together by the time they come home. Just a short nap, and you'll fix your hair. Just twenty minutes of sleep, and you'll put on something presentable. Just some rest, and you'll look good for them.
Tumblr media
"Ah, shit—why's it fucking pitch black in here?" Sam seethes as he now limps on his newly stubbed toe, reaching for the hallway light.
The living room is empty and so is the kitchen, they notice that pretty quickly. Usually when you're home alone you cook something elaborate with music blasting in the background, or rewatch that show for the thousandth time. Bucky always gives you a hard time for it, but he usually ends up watching it with you anyways.
"Y/n?" Steve calls out, taking off his jacket before hanging it up on the rack placed by the door.
"Hey, bug—we're home!" Bucky says, walking further into the apartment while searching with his eyes.
The lack of answer gives them anxiety, even though it's probably nothing. Might've gone out. It's Saturday night after all. But you don't really have many close friends outside of them. Unless you're on a date, which quite frantically makes Bucky want to throw up. Yeah, he chooses not to believe that for his own sake.
Natasha bites off another section of her snickers, the one she made everyone stop at the gas station for, while toeing off her shoes. Shoe-free household since you moved in, but exceptions are allowed in emergencies. If you knew that both Bucky and Steve have on theirs right now, you would be mad. But Natasha isn't about to nag about that—she's more focused on getting a huge glass of water for herself. She knows those idiots will take care of whatever's going on.
Steve knocks on your door, waits for too many seconds before calling out for you again.
"Y/n? You okay?" he asks, leaning against the wall.
And because Steve is a considerate man, he doesn't open the door without an answer. But the same can't be said for Bucky—he shoulders past the former and pushes down the door handle without even so much as a sound. He is met with resistance as soon as he steps over the threshold, but all of it comes from the guy behind him.
"Buck—no," Steve seethes through a whisper, trying to pull him back by his shirt unsuccessfully.
Your room is as dark as the rest of the apartment was. Warm and stuffy, rid of any fresh air from outside of the four walls. You've been in here for a long time.
The small strip of light coming into your room reveals your figure splayed out over the unruly covers, a sign of tossing and turning in your sleep.
"Let her sleep, Buck," Steve sighs, rubbing his forehead with the back of his hand while leaning against the doorway.
It would be near goddamn foolish to ever expect him to listen. Steve isn't surprised when Bucky steps towards your bed anyway. He lowers down into a crouch, reaching his right hand out for your face.
"Christ, she's burning up," Bucky sighs, pushing himself up to his feet again.
"Shit," Steve answers, passing the threshold into your room while forgetting the previous reservations he held. And as if Bucky's judgement isn't enough, he presses the back of his hand to your forehead. Steve's hand is normally warm, but your skin is a hot furnace against the lines and creases of his palm.
"Fuck, we just left her here all alone." Bucky shakes his head. "We watched fucking Lord of the Rings that we've seen a million fucking times and she laid here suffering with a fucking fever."
"Tone it down with the 'fucks', will you?" Steve tells him.
He turns on the small lamp standing on your bedside table, soft light revealing the dozen tissues spilling out of your trash can. There's not much doubt about your sickness now.
"What do we do? Oh god, what do we do?" The brunette starts pacing as if he has never been more stressed in his life.
"Calm down, Buck. It's a cold, not a heart attack." Steve raises his brows, turns around to glare at his friend. "You've taken care of me dozens of times when I was like this as a child. Go get a glass of water and a few Tylenols."
It seems like it takes a few seconds for Bucky to register Steve's words. Even then he looks anxious, as if he doesn't want to leave. This makes Steve nervous, because Bucky never acts like this, but then again he feels the same way. That's why he told his friend to get you medicine instead of himself.
But Steve could never deny Bucky anything, even if it costs him time watching over the girl he almost certainly cares for more than a friend should. He ignores that part though, and pushes himself up to a stand.
"I'll go," he sighs, gesturing for Bucky to replace him by your side.
The short trek towards the kitchen is filled with anxiety. Why does his heart beat so fast when it's probably just a cold? He just told Bucky to calm down despite feeling anything but calm himself. Just gotten very good at hiding it through the years, he supposes.
Steve has never been the caretaker. He so desperately wanted to be that person during his childhood—the fierce protector, the strong hero, the one bullies cowered away from instead of running towards. Maybe he has been overcompensating for his lack of heroism in his early years now with his friends. The guilt is always eating him up if even the slightest thing happens, because most of the time he can stop those things now. Steve is tall and muscular, fast too, and he's not afraid to speak up anymore.
But things like these—sicknesses—he cannot help except for pouring water down your throat and make sure you're comfortable. Because he wants you to be comfortable so badly, as the slightest sight of pain in any shape or form makes him as gloomy as Sam on days where his favorite football team loses. Steve has known for a while now that you—the girl living on the other end of the hallway who curls up at his side on movie nights and bakes him cookies after each test he's had—is much more than just a roommate. God, he waits by the door for you to come home like a puppy, for goodness's sake. Gets a hard on at least once a day no matter what you are wearing.
And Steve really likes this thing he and Bucky has going on with you. That caretaking thing that he never has gotten a chance to do is now so natural. He and Bucky has adapted this protector-role in your life that makes Steve feel so good. He likes making you happy, making sure you're safe. Like he has a purpose.
"She alright?" Sam speaks up as Steve passes by his room, changing out of his thick sweatshirt to a thinner t-shirt.
"Not really. She has a fever," Steve answers, both hands filled with water, pills and more tissues.
"Oh, shit. How bad? Dr. Wilson bad?"
"No." Steve rolls his eyes. One time Sam helped patch you up and now he has been calling himself Dr. Wilson ever since. "We're taking care of it. She hasn't woken up yet."
"Well, just call for me if she gets tired of your needy asses and wants some Sammy loving instead."
Steve raises his eyebrows, shakes his head like he always does, and moves on. He purposefully quiets his steps down while walking past the occupied bathroom—a fuzzing Natasha is not what you need right now. You already got two overbearing people in your room.
The door is shouldered open by Steve as he returns, realizing as soon as he steps inside that your eyes are open, tiredly nodding along to whatever recap Bucky is giving you of the movies. Steve stays silent, setting down his gifts beside you before crouching down. Soon enough you have him staring up at you, that ever present frown in between his brows.
"Now, will you tell us why in the goddamn hell you did not call or text any of us to say that you were sick?" Steve asks sternly, though his hand is gentle on your head. "Excuse the language."
You let a chuckle slip despite his lecture, because of course he needs to apologize for the very tame curse words inserted into his sentences. Of course Steve scolds you before even saying hello. Such a dad.
"You were at the cinema..." you croak out, glancing down at your intertwined fingers.
"So?" Bucky says with a look on his face that reveals he has no idea what you are talking about.
"I thought you wouldn't notice if I just—didn't think it would get this bad." You pout visibly. A bead of sweat has formed in your hairline, steadily making its trek down your forehead.
"Wait a minute, Y/n—you thought we just wouldn't notice you holing yourself up in your room for days until you were fine again?" Bucky raises his eyebrows, nearly rolling his eyes on you. It sounds dumb now that he says it out loud.
"Yes..."
"For god's sake, bug." He lets his palms scrub over his face while Steve sighs, balancing on the scale between amused and concerned.
"I didn't want to bother you! Besides I'm—this is not my finest moment. Kind of disgusting right now," you say.
"Now, c'mon," Steve tells you with a pointed gaze. "You know we don't care about that."
"You look fucking adorable right now. Just a little shiny, that's all." Bucky pokes you in the forehead, earning an offended gasp from your lips.
"Hey! I have a fever, asshole. I can't help it." The expression on your face is offended, but inside it's all warm and fuzzy because he called you adorable. Bucky fucking called you adorable.
But the playful grin on your lips soon turns into rumbling coughs, hiding your face into your elbow to avoid spreading saliva all over the two men beside you.
"Hey, hey. Take some water, Y/n. Here." Steve's hand flies to your back, rubbing gently, while reaching out the glass towards your lips.
Your throat is all scratchy and sore, and coughing up half of your lungs does not help in the least. But gulping down the cold liquid soothes the pain for the moment, even though most of the water drops down your chin.
"Should I...uh—"
Bucky reaches his hand out towards the box of tissues on your nightstand. Calloused fingers brush over your skin as he rids it of the stray drops, a metal hand tilting your chin up.
It's entirely too silent as you sit and let your face be dried like a toddler. Steve puffs up the pillow behind you, readjusts it until your face is getting enough support.
You don't say anything. Nobody says anything. The two of them work in tandem as they usually do, and have done since they were little boys, while making sure you're as comfortable as you possibly can be.
Soon enough there is a fan dragged in from someone else's room (you think there might be an angry Samuel barging in here any minute to demand it back), three boxes of napkins on your bedside table (you did not know there were that many napkins in your apartment) and four blankets on your bed in case you start shivering again (you do not own four blankets).
You get up to go to the bathroom and end up being carried instead. Being left alone is something you have to literally beg for, because you might, in their words, "pass out". The door remains unlocked as a compromise.
It's sometime around 12 am that you switch off the lights, still feverish and so tired of the sickness already. Mostly you're tired of the babying. But you don't say anything about the fact that both Steve and Bucky remain in your room, sitting on the goddamn floor even though you've told them several times that you have a desk chair and a bean bag. Actually, they have their own beds right on the other side of the hallway. Stupid boys.
They fall asleep pretty quickly, if judging by their snores. Both of them will deny their obnoxious sounds in the morning when you tell them. It makes you happy in one way, because Bucky usually has trouble not staying awake for hours on end grumbling over everything under the sun. Steve is sometimes found in the kitchen at 3 am when you go up for a glass of water, staring blankly out of the window as if he has the entire world resting on his shoulders. On the other hand, you're now the only one awake with your misery and overthinking.
Steve and Bucky definitely cares about you. For you. That much is clear from the past few hours. But to which extent? Is this what they would do for any of their friends? You would like to think so. It feels self-centered to not believe that. But they have been so adamant on making sure you're safe and alright and comfortable today—telling funny stories to distract you and getting caught up in those meaningless, petty fights they know you enjoy so much. Stroking your cheek, calling you sweet names and constantly making you drink water. College boys don't act that way towards their friends, or anyone at all really. You don't know why they are like this.
At the same time, the sweet things have become almost too much. You didn't think it was possible. But it frustrates you that this has become a whole savior-situation for them. Maybe you should want that now. Many girls do—not having to lift a finger while two men come at your every beck and call, and you usually do too. But the thing is that they are not listening to you. They are deciding things for themselves about you.
There comes a point where being helpful and taking care of someone transcends into being condescending. You absolutely can dry away water from your chin yourself. You can go to the fucking bathroom by yourself too, and would actually prefer it that way if you had a say in it.
Maybe you're just sick to the point of extreme irritability. You're probably overreacting to their sweetness because of everything happening in your life right now—this comes at the worst possible time with your final exam for the year in just three days. The final grades for most of your classes come anytime now as well, and you're not sure you did so well in all of them. You haven't even gotten a job for the summer either because no one wants to hire you. It's all pretty shit at the moment.
Barely anything is in your control right now. Not even your own health and how you choose to deal with it, because there are two men hovering over you every second since they came home. This is the first breather you've gotten in way too many hours. You're actually surprised they fell asleep before making sure that you did too, but happy that they did.
Another hour passes before you give up. It's too hot in here, despite cracking the window open half an hour ago, and the fan doesn't do you any wonders. The air is too thick from the small space being occupied by two giants and a sick girl for hours on end, and your bed is too soft.
You silence your coughs as you sneak out of your room out onto the living room couch. It's colder out here. Quiet.
You fall asleep within two minutes.
Tumblr media
"Sweetheart, wake up."
"C'mon, Y/n."
"Let her sleep, you assholes."
"She's burning up, for fuck's sake! We gotta do something!"
"Throw cold water on her."
"What the fuck, Sam?"
You groan, stirring awake while your eyes reluctantly flutter open. It feels like they have been glued shut. The fever-aches hit you instantly, distracting you from the mumbled voices right beside you as they try to gain contact.
"She's alive, at least," Sam says right before leaving the room. You barely notice.
"Y/n, hey, can you hear us?" Bucky asks, on his knees in front of the couch.
"Yes," you croak out, rubbing your eye while squinting. It's still early judging by the dimmed morning light coming into the apartment. "Wha—“
"Why did you leave? You have a 103 degree fever, baby. We have to cool you down."
You simply shake your head, letting out a distant hum while sinking down into the pillow once more, letting your eyelids close.
"C'mon. Sit up," Steve tells you, sneaking his hands around your back to push you upwards before you even have a chance to react to his words.
There's too many sounds around you, too many voices and hands prying your body around. You want quiet, like how it was when you went out here a few hours ago. What you sought after from the beginning.
"I want to be alone."
"Well, we're not going to fucking leave you alone right now, Y/n," Bucky says, stress practically seeping out of his pores.
Steve returns from the kitchen. You didn't notice him leaving. He reaches a cold, wet rag out to Bucky who immediately presses it to your burning forehead.
"I can do that myself."
"Nonsense. Just rest," Steve tells you.
"I'm serious. Guys, it's fin—"
"Can you get me the pills on her nightstand?"
He turns his head over his shoulder, nodding for Natasha who disappears into your room without so much as a blink to confirm. Your frustration grows with each second—Steve just entirely ignored you to speak over your words. He doesn't usually do that.
Red hair comes into view again, at least as much as you can see of her from underneath the rag covering half of your eyesight. She tosses the bottle, and you're lucid enough to try and catch it. Bucky grabs it instead.
But when he pours out a pill and begins prodding at your lips you push him away. It's  too much.
"Bucky, stop!"
This is the thing with the two of them—you love being cared for like they watch over you, but right now it just feels demeaning. As if they believe you can't do anything by yourself, as if you will fall and break your bones each time you stand or confront someone who has done you wrong without bodyguards crowding your space. Their intentions are good, so good, but right now it feels like unnecessary babying.  You are a grown woman who just happens to have very bad luck, but that doesn't mean you can't handle yourself at all.
As your yelling echoes through the now quiet room, their expressions fall, even though they did not look too chipper to begin with. Bucky inches back just slightly. Your tone was harsh enough to know that something is wrong.
"I get that the two of you are trying to help me right now, but I can lift my own fucking fingers!" Your face is hidden beneath your hands, head tilted back with a groan.
You can almost feel how their faces change right in front of you, postures tense up. It's not what you wanted—that is their reaction when being confronted, and this is not a scolding. At least you didn't intend it to be from the beginning.
"I just want to sleep right now, okay? I'm not going to die." Your voice softens into a whisper, a large contrast from the previous yelling that has the room quiet as a mouse.
Another three seconds of silence pass after your statement. Now they won't say anything? Steve runs a hand over his mouth, looking away from your gaze. Nervous.
"Uh...okay." He nods, despite looking like he doesn't want to agree. "Just—just take the Tylenol. If it gets worse you'll tell us, right?"
You don't really answer in the way he wants you to, which is not at all. You can tell by the way he purses his lips. Bucky just looks scarily neutral, as if he's schooling his face with every ounce of willpower in his body.
"Alright, boys. Scatter," Natasha says, waving her hands towards their rooms like she's directing an airplane. You guess that's about the organization you need to coordinate the three of them.
Before you can catch Steve and Bucky's conflicted glances, and Sam's slightly shocked expression, you roll around to face the back of the couch. As peace falls over the room, so does sleep once again.
Steve and Bucky take turns tiptoeing into the living room to watch over you each hour.
Tumblr media
Natasha sits in the living room chair reading from her iPad when you wake up. It's dark outside—you've been asleep the entire day. She has a cup of tea and half a cookie left on her plate sitting on the table, and does not even stir when you speak up from out of nowhere. Damn her spy skills.
"What time is it?" you croak out, so unbelievably hoarse that you can't even believe words are coming out of your mouth. You kind of regret speaking at all.
"7:32," she tells you while pushing a glass of water your way. The glass is devoured immediately.
While drying away the stray drops of water from your skin, you put the back of your hand against your forehead to realize your fever has gone down significantly. Not gone entirely, you think, but so much better. The only thing worse is the lack of anyone else in this room besides you and Nat.
"Where is everyone?" you ask her, pushing yourself up slightly until you sit up in the couch.
Natasha must instantly clock your hesitant tone, the slight trace of regret in your voice that manages to seep out through your cold-affected throat. She turns your way, leaning forward slightly.
"Hiding in their rooms."
Your face soon gets buried in your hands, leaning back with a groan from your lips.
"I was too harsh on them, wasn't I?" you say suddenly, letting her decipher your muffled words. "Fuck, I upset them. I was too mean."
"No, no. Hey, no," Natasha interjects, clasping her hand around your wrist to reveal your face again. "Babe, you are allowed to have boundaries, and they're not allowed to be bitchy about that."
"But I—they were just trying to help and I went off on them," you whine. "They haven't even talked to me since this morning. I feel like shit about that, Nat."
"They didn't talk to you 'cause you've been fucking asleep, that's why," she says. "And just because their intentions are good doesn't mean they have the right to be around you."
Natasha raises her perfect eyebrow, glancing over her shoulder towards the empty apartment behind her. Her words hit you like a fucking truck no matter how cliche that sounds, regardless of the fact that you have never taken any sort of advice of this sort to heart before. They never used to apply to you earlier.
"You decide that. And I'm sorry that their egos were bruised, but they need to learn how to respect people's wishes even when they believe they are doing the right thing by disregarding them," she tells you.
"Yeah," you breathe out. "Yeah, you're right."
"Sure as fuck I am," Natasha agrees. "Now go tell them that."
"I don't want to," you whine.
"But you have to. They're not gonna learn if you ignore them. And I know they're dying to check up on you."
"They haven't been in here?" you ask, trying to sound more curious than disappointed. Why are you disappointed? You were the one who wanted space.
"I banished them after they kept checking your temperature as you slept seven times within an hour."
Your eyebrows shoot to the roof. Actually, that makes you annoyed. It's cute, but you were sleeping! You had just yelled at them for invading your space and privacy! Goddamn men who worry too fucking much!
She smirks as you struggle your way up from the couch, angrily making your way towards the end of the hallway to your best ability in this state. The knocks on their doors are loud. Both doors open almost at the same time.
"Get in Rogers' goddamn room, Barnes," you mutter, before shouldering your way past the blonde wall of muscle looking entirely too confused for your liking. He's way too cute like that, and you're supposed to be angry.
The two men follow you like obedient puppies, sitting down on Steve's bed when you gesture towards it. You sway slightly after closing the door, resulting in someone shooting up from their position, but quickly falls back when you shoot the brown-haired guy a glare.
For what must be at least five seconds, you stare at the two young men now sitting on Steve's bed, staring up at you nervously as if you are the principal and they've been called into the office for disobedience. It's kind of fun, but you tire quickly of the staring contest, and instead run the back of your hand across your forehead with a sigh.
"I do just fine by myself," you say all of a sudden. No warning, no explanation. "And yes, it's really sweet that you two want to help, but you've completely ignored me and what I want since I got sick. That's not okay."
What started off strong and confident has now turned into looking anywhere but their eyes as you speak. Why are they making you nervous?
"I have boundaries when I'm sick too, you know? And it doesn't exactly feel like you actually care about me when you just push and prod at me like I'm some doll instead of a person who told you repeatedly that I didn't want your help."
You can't really see their reactions, since you're...not looking at them. Instead you have your arms engulfing themselves, fingers picking on your skin and the hem of your shirt nervously. You're not used to confrontation. Almost no training in scolding people at all. Especially not when it comes to people you care about so deeply. But it has to be done, according to Natasha. And maybe you know that she's right.
"And I'm mad at you. But I know that your intentions are good, and this doesn't have to be a big thing...but I just wanted you to know how I felt."
Too many seconds of silence passes after your little speech is done. The only sound in the room is your collective breathing. You're still looking down to the floor, watching your toes wiggle as a distraction.
"You can speak now, if you want to," you add timidly after what must have been half a minute.
The sound of Bucky letting out a long pent up breath almost makes you laugh, but you school your expression as you finally look him in the eyes. He almost burst watching you so fidgety, refusing to look at either of them.
"I'm sorry, babe," Bucky says, volume nearing on a whisper. He didn't mean to say that last word. "I just—I get kind of panicky when people get sick. You know, Steve—"
"I know about Steve's sickness, Buck," you tell him.
"Yeah, but...sometimes when he was like this it would be a life or death situation. Y/n, I've been the one to call 911 several times when I didn't think Steve would make it."
"I didn't know that," you say. "That it was that bad."
"He would start off exactly like you." Bucky pauses for too many seconds, scrunching his nose before shaking his head. "This fucking cough that would never disappear, and then the high fever. But I guess you have a better set of lungs and heart than he did back then."
"Oh, I—I don't know..."
"You're not about to go into heart failure because of a stupid cold," he says, but you think it's more of a reminder for himself. Steve looks at him funnily, as if he's almost sad by Bucky's words. Maybe he didn't know how much his friend saw during their childhood.
"We're sorry we ignored you, Y/n," Steve speaks up. "Now after, I...I can see that we were too overbearing. And you're right, that's not okay. But I don't want you to think we don't view you as a person. That's not true."
His blue eyes do that soft, concerned thing only Steve can pull off. It kind of pisses you off. You're supposed to be mad, but it's hard. Okay, you actually forgave them before you even entered the room, but they don't know that yet.
"Well, it kind of felt like you didn't," you mutter, looking away.
"I know. You don't deserve that," he answers. "I'm really sorry, sweetheart. I promise I'll do better."
You can't help but let the tiniest of smiles grace your lips. They barely notice it, you think.
"Okay. I guess I accept your apologies. But, this doesn't mean that I don't want to be helped at all—it just means that it will happen on my own terms. No more extreme coddling and babying."
Bucky gives you an amused smirk, rubbing his chin with his fingers. God, he would fit in perfectly in a douchy frat house. Idiot.
"You're kinda cute when you're yelling at us, you know?" he tells you. You think both you and Steve share the exact same reaction—Bucky gets a slap to the back of his head from the latter while you just scowl at him.
"You're such a jerk. That is not what you should take with you from this situation," you seethe, even though heat is traveling to your cheeks in an almost unhealthy pace. Goddamn him and his charm. You blame it on the fever.
"Punk," Steve mutters, shaking his head in disapproval while Bucky just ducks away from any further violence. There's still that smug grin on his face though.
"Bucky is a lot more likeable when he's shy and quiet, don't you think?" You turn to Steve, ignoring the brown-haired man now pouting at you. You've already forgotten why you're in this room in the first place. And damn it, you're starting to feel that you're not exactly top condition right now, and you know you have to sit down soon.
"Uh-huh. Is a lot easier to keep in line, at least."
"Hey! I'm right fucking here, you know? Don't talk shit about—"
Bucky doesn't get to finish his sentence before your seemingly healthier state turns critical in just a few seconds. The standing up for too long with a fever and no source of energy for two whole days finally takes it toll, and the clear focus you had on your boys turns into a big blur. A thud sounds through the room as your side crashes into Steve's drawer, balance lost completely before you could even notice you were dizzy in the first place. Within a second you're on the floor with a throbbing pain in the back of your head.
"Ow."
"Fuck," Bucky breathes out as he gets to his feet with Steve right on his heel, crossing the few feet's distance between you. "I know you just said we shouldn't coddle you...but—"
"It's fine. I'll give you a pass," you manage to get out while rubbing the back of your head, a small chuckle escaping your lips.
Strong hands pull you up to your feet, embracing your unsteady body so your head rests against Bucky's chiseled chest. Steve has his palm on your back, searching for any kind of contact.
"What happened? Are you okay?" he asks while Bucky leads you to the bed, forcing you to lie down.
"I don't think it was such a good idea to stand for that long," you say with a tired smile.
"Well, I tried to tell—" Bucky stops himself in the middle of the sentence, catching himself doing exactly what he promised he wouldn't. You grin at him, patting his thigh the best you can from your position.
"Good boy. Already learning."
The man blushes like a grown man has not done ever. You don't notice though, of course you don't, and his momentary weakness remains harmless. Steve doesn't point it out, because he's too engrossed by looking at the now sore spot at the back of your head. But you never notice, and Steve almost begins to think you're avoiding the signs on purpose. You should have noticed by now. Sam and Natasha certainly have—they can't give either of them a break when it comes to teasing about you.
"Fuck, this is the last thing I needed," you groan, putting your hands up to cover your face while leaning back into what now feels like Steve's thighs. When did he move you?
"Know it sucks, bad timing and all that, but maybe a sign to take it easier?" Bucky says, though he has to clear his throat first to rid it of the thickness he gained from your little comment earlier.
"What d'ya mean?" you mumble, eyes closed.
Maybe you were overreacting earlier. Now, with their hands in your hair and stroking your legs soothingly, you feel great. As if they really do care about you. But it's different now, you guess.
"Sweetheart, you've been stressing yourself to death this past month. You have this irrational fear, which is completely wrong, that you will fail all of your classes when you absolutely are not going to," Steve tells you.
"Maybe..." you mutter.
"Yeah, lay it down, will you? 'M only taking it easy on you with the scolding now 'cause you're sick, but it's actually worrying. Don't know why you think so low of yourself when it comes to school. You've done great the entire time."
"I can't help it," you whisper. "But I really don't want to study anymore. I'm tired."
Steve chuckles at you, shaking his head. "You don't have to. If you're good to do the test in two days—and I really mean if—you're already perfectly prepared. Been studying for a month. God knows I ain't ever studied that long for an exam."
"I know..."
"But even without me and Steve...helping, I, uh—are you gonna be fine 'till then?" Bucky asks, a new concerned frown in between his eyebrows appearing.
"You are allowed to help me, Buck. I never said that you couldn't," you tell him. Your eyes are closed, deep breaths being taken to rid yourself of the nausea. Despite this, you notice his restlessness over the thought.
"Yeah. I guess. Just don't want you...don't want you to be sick anymore," he mutters under his breath, as if though he wishes you could not really hear it.
This is the Bucky you usually see. The one who's a little shy and has trouble expressing his feelings, except if it's anger. Then he has all the willpower in the world to act on it. The guy who cares very deeply about his friends and becomes closed off when he can't help them.
"Not super excited about this either, Barnes," you whisper, arm thrown over your face to shield you from the rest of the world.
"We're on last name basis now, huh?" Steve says. You can hear the smirk in his voice.
"Uh-huh." You nod to your best ability. "You deserve that."
"She's just practicing her future last name, Stevie," Bucky speaks up, wearing a grin that falls just as quickly as it appeared. A dreaded, wide-eyed expression dawns upon his face as he stares at the two of you. The realization is painful.
"What? What did you just say?" You lift your head up from Steve's lap, staring at Bucky who's now beet red.
"Buck..."
"Oh, shit."

Honesty teaser | n romanoff | wattpad book
Ok hello :) I know this goes against posting on Tumblr, seeing as it won’t be updated on here, but I really need to kick myself back into writing, so what better way than to promote my book on here so that I have more of an incentive if more people know about it! For now it’s Wattpad only whilst I figure out how AO3 works (idk if I even have an account) but I will try to get it up on there too. But… until then… here is the first chapter of ‘Honesty’.
College!AU | Enemies to lovers
Natasha Romanoff x O!C
O!C: Kaiiarina Lenkova (Kaia/ Ky). Sister to JB Lenkov (James Buchanan aka Bucky)
Current available chapters: 9
The classic ringing of an incoming facetime call sounded through the speakers of a MacBook, which made a rather exhausted 18 year old leap up from her sprawled out place on her bed. She threw herself onto her spinning desk chair, which spun a bit too far, meaning she had to grab the edge of her desk and haul herself back around before she fell off.
She lifted the lid and quickly typed in her password as an excited face filled the screen, their voice far too loud as the volume had been left turned all the way up from last night's dance session. Dark curly hair swung against her back as the girl winced at her friend's squeal.
"Have you looked?" The blonde girl screeched, far too close to the camera to create a flattering angle.
"Lena, it's 8am. It's a miracle I'm awake at this point." Kaiiarina groaned before she was cut off by a yawn, which only emphasised her point. She'd been awake since 7, knowing that today was one of the most important days of her life. Every possibility and outcome of her future was shuffled through her head as she tried to grasp any ounce of sleep that made itself available to her. But instead of blissful dreams, she was faced with pits of anxiety that made her dream feel like her worst nightmare.
"We promised we'd open them together, so hurry up!" Yelena was horrendously impatient, which was a huge contrast to Kaia's more laid back approach in life. But they'd planned this day since they were 11 years old, having been inseparable since they were 6.
Their first day of ballet class. Yelena was only there because Melina wanted her to follow in Natasha's footsteps; the golden child. But, naturally, the blonde wanted to be anywhere else, so she was stubborn in not moving from her spot on the bench. Her hair was pulled up into what could have been a neat bun, but she had wriggled so much that her baby hairs were everywhere.
Kaia, on the other hand, couldn't have been more different. Her uniform was pristine, tiny feet slipped into perfectly tied ballet shoes. Her almost black hair was pulled into a braided bun, secured perfectly on the top of her head, not a single hair out of place. She sat on the bench with her back straight, her hands folded in her lap. She looked alert, attentive; her blue eyes wide as she took in every person who walked past. She looked in wonder at the older girls who walked past, admiring their pointe shoes with lust. She was going to be like them one day.
Their teacher called everyone into the studio as a group, knowing a lot of the children would be nervous. Kaia walked in with her head held high; this was where she was meant to be. But out of the corner of her eye, she saw Yelena putting up a fight with her mother, who was trying to coax her defiant 6 year old from the bench.
What spurred her to do this was a complete mystery, but Kaia found herself wandering over to Yelena and extending out her hand.
"I'm Kaia." Was simply all she said. Yelena stopped squirming, peering up at the girl with her big green eyes. She looked at her mother briefly, who just smiled.
"Yelena."
"You know that class is about to start, right?" Kaia stated, confused as to why the girl wasn't in the studio like everyone else.
"Yes. But I'm not going." The young Russian was stubborn and folded her arms over her chest, pouting slightly.
"Ballet isn't sissy, you know. It's strong. You don't see the 'tough' boys doing it, do you?" Yelena shook her head, slightly confused at her point. Kaia leaned towards Lena and whispered in her ear. "It's because they can't handle it. They're not strong like we are."
Yelena smiled at the thought of being stronger than the boys in her class. She was fiercely competitive and she revelled in the idea of being better at something than someone else. Kaia's hand was still outstretched and so the blonde Russian took it gladly, their tiny hands clasping tightly together.
Melina watched the girls disappear into the glossy studio, a proud smile on her face. Those girls were going to be best friends, she just knew it.
And she was exactly right. Kaia transferred to Yelena's school in 2nd grade, and they became inseparable. Even the teachers knew they wouldn't be able to find one without the other 2 steps behind. And when one of them were sick and off school... it was like the one left behind was missing a limb.
When they transferred to middle school together, they made a pact. The girls would go to the same high school and the same college.
And that day had finally come. Acceptance letters were being sent out and the girls had applied to the same university. Which was what prompted Yelena's early morning facetime call.
Kaia scrolled through her emails, her heart pounding out of her chest. This was what they'd worked towards for 4 years. Their extra-curricular activities, sports, dance, languages... everything leading up to this moment.
"Oh fuck." Kaia muttered, seeing the email appear in her inbox. "I've got it."
On the other side of the screen, Yelena had her email open too, the link tempting her mouse, but also making her hesitate. What if their plan didn't work out?
"Wait." Yelena rushed, making Kaia freeze. "Whatever happens, we stay best friends, right?"
"I can't believe you just asked me that question Belova." Kaia scoffed, slightly offended as she adjusted the neck of her hoodie.
"I just had to be sure. Okay," Yelena let out a big breath. "It's now or never."
There was silence on both ends of the call as they waited for the link to load up. Time seemed to slow down, seconds turning into minutes as the loading circle span round and round. Yelena had picked up a hair tie and was spinning it around her finger as Kaia chewed on the edge of her thumb.
But the circle stopped spinning. The girls stopped fidgeting. They both held their breath as a message appeared on their screens.
Pale Oak University is delighted to offer you a place on your chosen course. We hope that you accept our offer and will join us in August on campus. Please click 'confirm choice' at the bottom of the page to secure your place.
But neither of them said anything. They tried to read each other's expressions as they looked back at the camera, but they were so scared of not going to the same college that neither wanted to burst the bubble.
But Kaia couldn't help let a small smile slip, which prompted Yelena to do the same.
"Did you-"
"Are you-"
Both girls started to speak at the same time but paused for the other continue. Kaia just nodded at Yelena's question, not trusting her voice to be strong enough to speak.
"Oh my god, me too." Lena's voice came out as nothing more than a hushed whisper, her hands flying to her mouth as tears welled in her eyes.
"Lena." Kaia croaked out, a tear slipping down her cheek. "We did it." She laughed lightly, which blended into a choked sob.
"We really did it."
"We fucking did it!" Kaia leaped out of her chair, spinning around like an excited puppy. "Mama! Dad! We did it! I got in!" Although she was still on facetime, Kaia sprinted downstairs to find her parents, screaming her results to them.
On the other side of the screen, Yelena did the same thing, racing into the kitchen where her parents and sister were sat.
"I got in!" She announced as she skidded to a halt in her fluffy socks, grabbing onto the back of a chair so she didn't slip. "I'm going to Pale Oak!"
Melina and Alexei scooped their youngest into a huge group hug as they cheered, leaving Natasha sitting alone at the table. She would have joined in, if it wasn't for the news that her little sister was going to be at the same university that she was currently at.
"Natasha, come and congratulate your sister. You know out of everyone just how hard the entry process is." Melina said, giving her 20 year old daughter a stern look as she rolled her eyes.
"Nice job Yelly." Nat said, ruffling her sister's hair, purposely messing it up even further. "Just don't bother me okay? I don't want you hanging onto me all the time. It's annoying."
"Natasha be nice." Alexei said disapprovingly. "Your sister is blessing to us all. We are so so proud." He pulled Yelena into his side, which she did not appreciate as she pushed him away with a disgusted look.
"Don't worry Nat. I've got Kaia. We're gonna be just fine."
Nat's head whipped round and she stared at her sister with a raised brow. "Wait... Kaia's going?"
"Duh. She's my best friend." Yelena rolled her eyes, not believing her sister's comment.
Nat shrugged, turning back to her phone. "Wow. Didn't know she had what it took." She mumbled under her breath for only Yelena to hear.
Rage flooded the blonde's cheeks and she clenched her fists at her side. "You're a bitch." she spat through gritted teeth, before marching up the stairs and slamming her door shut, slumping onto her chair in front of her laptop where Kaia was waiting.
"I'm guessing Nat didn't take it too well then." Kaia quipped, throwing an m&m up in the air before catching it in her mouth.
"You know me too well."
"No, well yes, but I also know just how much your sister hates me." Natasha always had a distaste for Lena's best friend, but no one quite knew why. Maybe it was due to them being in the same ballet class, despite Kaia being 2 years younger, or maybe how much time Kaia spent at the Romanoff's. But the brunette didn't really care. Having Nat like her wasn't exactly on the top of her to do list.
"Well, forget about her. She's not going to ruin it for me, or for you. We've had everything planned out since we were 10 years old Ky, and it's actually going to happen."
"Still gonna be roommates right?" Kaia asked, reading over the email one more time to cement it into her brain. It still felt surreal that they were actually going to college. No more high school. No more living at home. No more living 25 minutes away from each other. It was perfect.
"If you really think I'm gonna sleep in the same room as some random ass girl who snores and talks in her sleep, then think again. I'm sleeping with you or not sleeping at all."
"Well then I think we need to contact someone about it, because I don't even know if you can pick your roommates."
"I'll just say I have major attachment issues and breakdown into floods of tears whenever I'm not around you." Yelena said, spinning around on her chair before getting distracted by her massive shark plushie. She reached for it and pulled it onto her lap, stuffing her face into its fur.
Kaia just rolled her eyes. Yelena was always one for the dramatics. "Well that's going to work so well seeing as we are taking different majors, but sure." Yelena was majoring in sports science, seeing as she was on the women's football team and she loved it with all of her heart. Ballet was never really her thing, so as soon as she could quit, she did.
Kaiiarina was majoring in dance and they both were taking a Russian language class, as it was easy credits seeing as they both wanted to be fluent in their 'motherland' language.
"Well if that doesn't work, we can just get your brother to intimidate them all into putting us together." JB Lenkov (or James Buchanan) was in the army and had been away for 8 months. He was 5 years older than Yel and Kaia, so they joked about him a lot. Plus, he did try to ask Natasha out on a date, only to be turned down by her harsh words. "If you have a dick, I'm not into you."
"Let's just email them. See what they say." Kaia clicked on the email link, excitement surging through her body. It felt real now. But with the excitement came a lot of nerves. The kind that sent butterflies swarming in all different directions, extending from her fingertips to the depths of her stomach. A nauseating feeling descended in her throat, but she swallowed it down.
New experiences weren't really her thing. She grown a lot more self conscious from the bold and daring 6 year old she once was, but within the duo she was still the sensible and down to earth one. A stickler for the rules, which Yelena often felt were mere suggestions.
"I know its 8:30, but something in my body is screaming for a Starbucks right now, and unfortunately my asshat of a sister won't drive me." Yelena peaked over the top of her shark, which she had nicknamed Brucie, and batted her eyelashes rather dramatically at her best friend, who payed absolutely no notice to her.
"Kaia..." Still nothing.
"Ky!" Crickets.
"Kaiiarina!" Oh now she'd done it. The brunette's blue eyes seemed to darken as she peered up at the camera, narrowing her eyes into what became a bone chilling glare.
"Yelena Fyodorovna Belova. Did you just use my government name?" Although she was joking, Kaia made no effort to smile or even lighten her expression, loving how scared her friend looked. Similarly to a deer in headlights.
Lena flashed a sheepish smile. "Coffee?" Was all she offered, trying to hit Ky's sweet spot. "Caramel iced coffee?" Kaia was still glaring. "I'll buy you a blueberry muffin."
Now that was a deal breaker. "Even when I hate your guts, you still manage to win me over." Kaia groaned, pushing away from her desk and wheeling over to her closet whilst still sat on her chair. She grabbed a jacket and stood up, walking over to her table to grab her keys. "I'll be there in 20. Be ready or I'm taking Nat instead." She leaned over her laptop and hovered her mouse over the red 'end call' button.
"Oh wow. Threat of the century." Yelena feigned offense and Kaia blew a raspberry. Childish, yes, but
"Bye bitch."
~~~
Kaia's family was rich, very rich, but it hadn't gone to her head like many privileged girls she could mention. Her father was the CEO of a major jewellery company back in Russia, that had gone global in the last 10 years.
She had all the physical signs of a rich girl; expensive clothes, dainty jewellery, designer sunglasses that were nearly always placed in her wavy hair, pristinely manicured nails and of course, her most prized possession... her tesla. It was an extravagant 18th birthday gift from her father, and as normal as it seemed in a life like hers, Kaia burst into tears when she saw the sparkling white car parked on their driveway.
Yelena seemed more eager to show off Kaia's new car than she was, hopping into the front seat and immediately connected her phone to the aux, Mitski blasting at full volume.
And even though it had been 6 months since Ky's birthday, Yelena still clambered into the sleek white car with a gleeful expression, her phone ready in her hand to Bluetooth. Kaia's once peaceful music was soon replaced with songs more to Yelena's taste, reflecting her wild and chaotic personality.
"This is just like a free taxi service for you isn't it?" Kaia commented as Yelena clearly made herself comfortable, her hands adjusting the direction of the aircon as Kaia pulled away from the drive.
"Yeah, but you're rich so it's fine." It was true. Kaia didn't care about giving Yelena lifts. And besides, it's not like she payed for the electricity that powered her car.
10 minutes later she swerved into the Starbucks parking lot, a smile gracing her face as she saw the all-too-familiar store. The girls pushed the doors open and went inside to order their drinks. Yelena offered to collect their drinks so Kaia took a seat in a booth next to the window and peered outside, watching the hustle and bustle of the world outside.
Her hand was propped up under chin and she soon drifted into her thoughts, trying to process the events of this morning even though it was only 9:20am.
Yelena observed her best friend from afar, watching how she retreated into her head. She knew Kaia's concerns about college, especially with Natasha who was also doing the same course. The tension between the 2 could be cut clearly with a knife, which made thanksgiving and birthdays slightly awkward. But Yelena's outlandish personality always helped muffle the discomfort with a joke or a random song, which Kaia was thankful for.
She carried their coffees and blueberry muffins over to the table and slid in opposite Kaia, who was still staring into space out of the window. Her bottom lip was pulled between her teeth and Lena could feel Ky's knee bouncing up and down as their legs touched under the table.
"Hey. Kaia." Yelena said gently, placing her hand on her friend's knee. "I got that muffin you wanted." She slid the muffin across the table and watched as Kaia's eyes flickered into focus and she took a deep breath.
"I was beginning to think you'd forget." She joked, taking a sip of her coffee and smiling at the taste. Her grin was slightly forced and Yelena could tell it didn't quite reach her eyes.
Yelena laughed, her adorable giggle making Kaia smile harder. "Me? Forget? Never." She watched as her best friend slowly picked apart her muffin, breaking it into pieces on the wrapper. "What's going on?"
Kaiiarina sighed. Her anxiety wasn't anything new, and the duo had learned to cope with it really well. Yelena was goofy but always understanding, switching her naturally comedic tone to a more serious one when she needed to. And she was an excellent observer, which definitely came in handy as Kaia usually withdrew into herself whenever anxiety took over.
"Oh nothing." She said casually, more so to convince herself than Yelena. "It's just- well, college is a lot."
Yelena knew where this was coming from. They'd spoken about it a few times, but Ky still struggled to wrap her head around it. "Yeah... but it's not different for us."
"Why?" Kaia questioned as she bit into a chunk of muffin. A blueberry exploded on her tongue and sent a fuzzy feeling in her stomach. That's why those muffins were her favourites.
"Because we're still together. And we always will be."
Kaia thought for a moment as she chewed. Yes, they would be together, but they'd also be around Natasha and a bunch of new people they'd never seen before. Plus, they were doing different courses which meant different people, different professors, different buildings, different schedules... it was a lot.
Yelena took her silence as a hint to keep talking. "You're worried about Nat aren't you?"
"No." Kaia snorted. "Well... I'm hoping your sister is too busy to worry about making my life a living hell... but you know..." she trailed off and Yelena smiled, having figured out the root of her worries.
"You'll be fine. Besides, you won't even see her. You have me instead!"
"Hmmm... I wonder which Romanoff-Belova sibling I like best..." Kaia pretended to think long and hard, knowing it would mess with Yelena all too well.
Yelena narrowed her eyes and lined up a blueberry to flick, her lips curling into a pout. "For the sake of your white sweatshirt, you better say me. Or I'm gonna find another roommate."
"Okay Miss 'I breakdown in tears when I'm not around you'. Can't fool me Belova.". A smug expression crossed Kaia's face and Yelena huffed, sinking into the soft leather seat as she tossed the blueberry into her mouth and chomped on it with force.
"I hate you." She mumbled, glaring around the half empty coffee shop as her arms folded across her chest and one foot came to rest on the maroon seat.
Kaia chuckled at her childish behaviour, expecting nothing less. "No you don't."
With her infamous pout and inability to look her friend in the eye, Yelena answered "Yes I do" whilst eyeing up the baristas working quickly behind the counter, taking drive-thru orders as they drizzled caramel onto several frappuccinos.
"Okay then. See you around." Kaia grabbed her keys and iced latte and made a move to stand up from the booth, before Yelena put her leg on her seat so she couldn't get out. "No wait! I need a lift!"
Kaia sat down with a scoff. "Wow... so you are using me!"
"Yeah I am." Yelena said with no shame with a mouth full of muffin. "What about it?"
"Remind me why I'm friends with you again?"
"Because you need someone with good music taste to test your car speakers. And someone to bring banners to your dance recitals." A cheeky glint shone in Yelena's eyes as Kaia groaned, her head falling into her hands at the memory.
"No! Never again." She peeked through her fingers to see her best friend sniggering, to which she kicked her rather hard in the shin, earning a pained yelp from the blonde. "You may find it hilarious, but I will never live that down. I almost got kicked off the team for that!"
Yelena rolled her eyes. "Oh shut up. Natty was only jealous because I didn't make her a sign. She would never kick you off. You're too good. They need you to win." She was right. Kaia was unbelievably talented, although she would never admit it.
One of the many things the girls had in common was their dedication. When they wanted something, they were some of the most driven teenagers around. Both sets of parents were proud, although Yelena's showed it a lot more than Kaia's did. Her's seemed to think that the money they gave her was enough to make up to the detached and cold behaviour they showed towards her and her brother. But it just brought the siblings closer than they ever would be.
"We have 3 months until college. What the fuck are we gonna do?" Yelena asked, slurping the last of her coffee. It seemed like a hell of a long time to sit around stressing, which is what Kaia would do.
"We need to buy stuff for our dorm. And I want to go to the beach."
"Okay Ky that's boring stuff. I'm talking sleeping under the stars, going to haunted houses, days at the lake, getting drunk whenever we want! We have all this time and no pressure to do anything. We can't waste it!"
Kaia chewed on her lip before smiling. The sun as shining and it was warm. Perfect May summer weather. "Okay fuck it. Lake day?" She asked, grabbing her keys and adjusting her sunglasses on her head.
"I love you!"
They dumped their trash and ran out to the car, jumping in before racing home to collect their stuff. Kaia's parents weren't home (surprise surprise) so she didn't need to ask permission from anyone. And Yelena never asked permission She was 18 and frankly Melina and Alexei trusted her enough for her to do what she wanted.
"First day of stress free summer is about to commence!" Yelena announced when they were both back in the car. The electric guitar intro of 'Sweet Child O'Mine' blared through the tesla speakers as they pulled out of the driveway and it suddenly felt real.
It was summer.
They were going to college.
Together.
10 year old Kaiiarina and Yelena would be proud.
you’ve had the esteemed privilege of getting to fuck your old college history professor for the last couple of months. No, he’s not a misogynist (he eats you out far too often & he’s never been pushy). He’s not old—OK, he’s got maybe 20 years on you, but he’s got 1 of those bodies that looks pleasantly cuddly til you see the muscle underneath. Add that to a dazzling smile, a quick wit, and hair you loved running your fingers through…oh yeah, plus the part where he wrecked you 80% of the time & begged for you to send him over the edge the other 20%.
you go to his place dressed in nothing but some flats, a matching bra/panty set in his favorite colors, a bracelet he’d given you, and an oversized sweatshirt. The last item left a tiny part of you uncovered, but it wasn’t like you planned on wearing it for long. Yeah, well…
Your drama professor answers the door, and she’s wearing less than you. Yup, former ballerina of the Bolshoi, actress in some of the most badass action movies you’d ever seen, is standing in the doorway. Prof. Natasha Romanoff leans against the doorframe like her loosely tied silk robe isn’t giving you a sneak peek of her cleavage and upper thighs. And she looks like she’s gonna kill you.
“What took you so long?” she huffs, holding a glass of wine, “He kept saying you came by, and I’d always miss you.” She waves you in, then shuts the door behind her. Once you’re in, she shoves you up against a wall and samples the taste of you with a smirk. You’re just frozen, aroused, and very confused…until you see James watching you both.
“I know it’s unexpected…” he starts, trying to keep some measure of composure despite the obvious lust in his eyes.
The next thing you know, you’re sticky, warm, and wet, face lovingly pressed into Natasha’s lap as she whispers curses and uses a firm-yet-gentle hand to keep you in place. James is thrusting in and out of you at a steady pace, smirking every time you both manage to fuck a whimper out of his wife.
Feel free to add onto this! Just tag me!
NaNo day 1: There isn't even a den in this apartment!
Chasing Ghosts
Warnings for drug use, badly behaved college students, sickness/gore, very tiny allusion to eating disorders (blink and you'll miss it), mentions of politics, references to war (Operation Iraqi Freedom) and associated violence, strong language, and references to criminals/violent crime
_________________
James is used to the walk by now. Every Tuesday when his academic day is finished, he traipses around the University's man-made lake and sculpture garden as he makes his way to student housing. James tries not to seethe with discontent and forces himself to focus on the task at hand. He's being helpful. He's being a good big brother. He is not angry at Tasha for neglecting to submit a mail forwarding request.
James doesn't need to know the apartment number; the pile of damp-looking envelopes and sales ads on the doormat make his destination visible all the way down the block. He wonders for a moment what Tasha's would-be neighbors might think. She's slobbish and self-centered to the point of true oblivion? If James is honest, the description isn't far off. He just happens to love the little turd and can't help his instinct of automatic forgiveness, hence his dedication to clean up the studio and continue the charade that it's inhabited. Tasha's much safer living in James's spare room, but he hates to think of the consequences that will come if a protective service worker comes knocking at Tasha's technical address.
Shaking his head, James scoops up the paper and newsprint. It's mostly grocery store coupons and political flyers destined for the recycling bin. When Tasha eats, it's Steve's home cooking, and in the political realm, her opinion is already clear. She probably doesn't know half the candidates on the ballot, but James has heard her say that she'd rather vote for "the girl" instead of "the troll."
Tucking the junk mail under his prosthetic arm, James fumbles the apartment's key out of his pocket and into the lock. When it doesn't make the telltale click, his brow furrows. Anxiety prickles down his spine. James is sure he locked up after last week's tending. He trusts his paranoia more than his memory. He tries to think of legitimate reasons for the door to be open. Maybe maintenance? Someone to fix the plumbing? But James can't hold onto it as an option. It must be someone unwelcome. An intruder. An ax murderer. A terrorist planting a bomb.
As James tentatively turns the knob and eases the door open, it finally processes that the apartment's just unlocked. There are no signs of a forced entry. The lock doesn't even look picked, but it’s still far from reassuring.
James automatically jumps to worst-case scenario. The break-in must be premeditated. He thinks of careful surveillance and copied keys. Tasha might not notice a stalker. She's vulnerable. And now in desperate need of protection from what could be a serial killer. James just hopes he can head the guy off before he realized where Tasha actually lives.
The door momentarily sticks; the pile of unopened mail that’s made it through the slot over the last week makes crumpling and shredding sounds as James forces it open. So much for stealth. But this situation calls for a soldier, not a sniper. James squares his shoulders, shoves the door inward as far as it can go, and calls out in a clear, if not threatening, tone.
“Sergeant James Barnes, U.S. Army. If anyone’s in here, make yourself known.”
James’s nose is hit with the scent of smoke. Maybe a tinge of something chemical? He wills it not to be a bomb.
A throaty cough comes from deep within the apartment’s interior, along with a soft, “The fuck?”
Is it Tasha? James’s head is filled with white noise, and his hearing aids only increase the volume of the tinnitus. Whomever it is sounds impaired. Bound and gagged?
“Step out where I can see you. Hold your hands above your head.” James goes for his thigh holster, but of course it’s not there. He settles for holding his keys out like a many-bladed knife. The pieces of mail spill from under James’s arm as he brings his prosthetic hand under the other for support.
“Jamie?” A swath of frizzy red curls appears over the arm of the sofa. “Ugh.” Tasha’s pale face comes into view, her pointed chin dug into the upholstery.
James wants to sag with relief. He recognizes the thick smoky odor as cannabis, accompanied by the bitterness of bodily fluids. He can’t lose his nerve yet, though. Tasha still might not be alone.
“Anyone else?” James easily maintains his authoritative tone. “Clear the building.”
“Jamie, seriously, what the fuck?” Tasha’s eyes crinkle around the edges as she squints at him.
“Are you here of your own free will?”
“Yeah…?” Tasha raises an eyebrow. “Shut the door. You’re making it all bright.” She speaks the last sentence with a very familiar whine. As far as proof of identity goes, that’s definitely the ticket.
“Are you here of your own free will? Nobody is forcing you to be here?”
“Uh…no.” Tasha blinks slowly. “Shut the damn door, will you?” Her voice cracks, and Tasha’s head disappears, and she retches painfully.
James dutifully closes the door. A catalogue and a few credit card offers catch at the door jamb and tumble back out to the front stoop, and James suddenly remembers his original mission of sorting and recycling. He’ll get back to it. Tasha’s wellbeing is the priority, and from what he's seen so far, he has a feeling she's south of the mark.
James isn’t comfortable putting his keys away yet, but he folds them int a less threatening fist, which he grips so tightly the metallic points and ridges indent themselves into the pads of his fingers. He takes a breath to steady himself. Threat avoided, James thinks. Mission complete. He can drop his militaristic pretence for recon and rescue. Tasha does better with a more sensitive touch. If only he could be sure his body will behave.
The essence of marijuana becomes stronger as James steps into the apartment's tiny living area. His eyes burn and his head starts to buzz as if he's taking a joint himself. "Hey," he says quietly, stepping out of parade rest and into a more casual stance.
Tasha's bent double; she sits on the couch with her feet on the floor her torso draped down between her knees. She spits into a small bathroom trash bin, then raises bloodshot eyes to meet James's.
"Not feeling that great?" James asks. He kneels and steadies the bin for her.
"Nah." Tasha shakes her head, then squeezes her eyes closed and snuffles. She seems to notice James's vice-like grip on his keys as she uses the sleeve of her t-shirt to wipe her nose. "You, like, gonna stab me or something?" she asks hoarsely. "I'm not doing anything illegal."
James chooses his words carefully. "I was making sure no one was doing something illegal to you."
"By calling a bomb threat?" Tasha slumps back into the couch cushions. "I was tripping really good. Did you want me to start hallucinating desert rats or something? I hate it when the other side is all creepy."
Tasha's not one to respect anything, but James wishes she could see the situation from his side. Well, actually he doesn't; the 19-year-old has enough to deal with without wartime flashbacks to boot. James swallows his annoyance. This time is for helping Tasha after all. Postal pickup, sober friend. Same difference.
"Let me guess." James takes the slightest peek into the bin. "Robatussin and..." He pauses to think. The red fluid is easy enough to read. The green, though... "Bile from the deepest depths?" He greatly doubts Tasha would have blenderized spinach in her system.
"Bingo." Tasha slowly brings her arm around her head and leans toward her horizontal position again. "But your timing sucks. I have at least another hour before the pretty pictures go away, and you will not subject me to a moving vehicle in the meantime."
Seeing as Steve's currently at swim practice, the only available mode of transport is the city bus. James decides not to drop the news.
"You can stay put," he concedes, but he sits back on his knees and straightens his spine. "But we have to talk."
"I promise I'll never, ever do it again." Tasha doesn't bother to open her eyes.
"Hey, you're supposed to listen first."
Tasha puts a hand over her upward-facing ear.
"Stop." James folds Tasha's arm back down to her side, then gently prode her with a thumb between her eyebrows. "Seriously."
"Ok, what." Tasha gives him a glare, but her eyes gloss over almost immediately.
"This place reeks of weed," James states.
"It's a fucking college dorm." Tasha's whine is back. "It was like that before I moved in. Or, well, you know."
James doubts it, but again, he lets Tasha's words fly, leaving no meaning behind. "How often are you coming in here to smoke?"
"I don't know. Once? I guess?" Tasha's voice is thin and watery.
James nudges the bin a bit closer to Tasha's leg. She dry retches a few times, then brings up a trickle of pink-tinged spit once she's well over the trash can.
"I don't believe you," James says in all seriousness. "Are you going to your classes? You're going to flunk out if all you do is hole up and get high." He can't stop himself from going on. "Or is this where you go on Friday nights in your tube tops and high heels? Is there alcohol in here? Do you, like, have people over?"
"God, Jamie." Tasha wraps her arms around her stomach and gulps.
Guilt begins to sicken James's own gut. Is he being too direct? It's always a careful balance to strike; too lax, and she'll ignore him. Too harsh and she'll spite him. James wishes he still had the ability to hear his own tone.
Tasha looks like she's about to cry, but she doesn't. She just vomits again, then cringes. "Cherry," she mumbles. "What is a fucking cherry? Do these people actually eat fruit?" She shoots an accusatory look at a the smashed boxt halfway under the sofa. James recognizes it as the packaging from the Robatussin.
"Tash." James won't stop until he gets some actual answers. "Tell me you're not hosting intoxicated orgies in here."
Tasha takes a long time to spit and wipe her lips on the back of her hand. "If I did that, there'd be no carpet."
It's a valid point. The low-pile beige running wall-to-wall is as clean as its last shampooing. James considers. Tilts his head to the side. "Ok. I'll give you that."
"Gee, thanks."
"But are you cutting class? How often--?"
"You're being kind of an idiot," Tasha says with remarkable patience. "How many days in a row can you hit up without becoming a permanent benzo zombie?"
James struggles to hold the upper hand. They have an unspoken agreement not to talk about James's usage. He's a grown ass adult with his own legal prescription. The fact that Tasha's a grown ass adult as well with her own ID to buy over-the-counter hallucinogens isn't supposed to be in the same league.
James sighs. "Yeah. Fine. I get it."
"Do you now?" Tasha murmurs. She's heading toward unconsciousness again. "If you need somewhere to, you know, convalesce. The door's open."
"Hmm." James finds his keys and rattles them close to Tasha's face. "About that. I expected this place to be empty, but then the door was unlocked."
"So you went into ninja mode?" Tasha laughs, as if James's militaristic behavior was just a party trick.
"That's not actually funny." James's expression goes hard. "I can't stop once that switch turns in my brain. You know that."
"If you've got oxy on you, there's plenty of room." Tasha waves vaguely at the opposite end of the couch."
"You are not making this place into a drug den. It's, what, 400 square feet? There isn't even a den in this apartment." James laughs as well, but it's cold and incredulous.
"Well, I'm going back to lights and colors," Tasha says decidedly. She looks to the bin, then seems to decide she's done evacuating stomach contents. She flops back to lie on her side and lets her eyelids slide shut.
James gives it one last try. "I'd rather you do this at home. It's all legal; I really don't care. Just, safety, you know?"
"Sure." Tasha lets out a deep, peaceful breath. "Or you could just stay here."
There's no hope in moving her now, and James's inner vigilante hasn't completely gone back into hibernation. "I'll stay," he acquiesces. "But just for today." He turns back to the entryway.
"But-" Tasha points again to the couch. "Where are you going?"
James stoops and gathers the mess of mail into two great handfuls. "Entertainment," he says simply, then taps a few envelopes on the top of Tasha's head.
James sits on the couch, crosses one leg over the other, and begins to sort. He peruses the Walgreens mailing, but puts it directly into the discard pile as soon as he sees the perforated coupons offering half-price cold and flu medications.
Lessons in love
Chapter 1: A new professor
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Summary: You’re a new professor at Avengers U and one of the first students you meet is Wanda maximoff, when you make her stay behind your class due to her friends childishness you find out she might be more than you thought, Wanda on the other hand is a huge gay mess and can’t deal with anything you do
Paring: Professor!Y/n x college!Wanda maximoff
Warnings: 18+ only Minors DNI lots of innuendos, swearing and Nat being really annoying to Wanda (let me know if I’ve missed any)
A/n: I’ve watched Bloomington again but I’ve not followed the plot for this story but it’s inspired by it, but there will be a happy ending because I can’t end things in sadness
Wanda wasn’t in the mood, she didn’t want to be in class today and didn’t know why she was here, they were getting a new professor this year, what a waste of time, you had the same teacher for the 4 years you were here and now you’ve got someone new? Ridiculous!
“Oh sorry!” Wanda wasn’t looking where she was going and bumped into a hard body nearly knocking both her and the person over, Wanda gathered herself and looked up at the person and stood stunned “woah” she blushed and you laughed “are you okay honey? You seemed to be in quite a rush”
Wanda tore her eyes away from you and dusted herself free of the imaginary dust she had gathered “sorry sorry I’m just nearly late for class and apparently we’re getting a new teacher who’s strict on time so that means she’ll probably be a bitch and I don’t have time today”
She let out a big sigh and finally looked back up to you and you had a smile on your face “a bitch huh? Interesting, I’m pretty sure it’s just called good manners if you’re on time and ready”
She shrugged “sure and I get that but still it’s annoying when they’re like that”
You laughed “yeah I get it, I had a teacher when I was younger who was a bitch, she was hot though so I made sure I was on time, most of the time anyway, she’d keep me back after lessons and gave me a stern talking too” you winked and Wanda’s heart did a flip, why was this happening
“Oh yeah I guess but those things only happen in weird porn films and fan fictions”
You chuckled “sure, but I think the world of fantasy and fan fiction is so much better than the real world, anyway go on to your class, I hope the teacher isn’t a bitch like you say”
Wanda agreed “yeah me too, okay thanks I’ll maybe see you again”
“I think it’ll be sooner than you think”
Wanda shook her head, “unless you follow me, I don’t think I will” she laughed moving past you towards her classroom, what a coincidence, that’s where you were heading for too.
**************************************************
Wanda’s mouth hung open as the door opened and you stepped through walking to the desk and writing your name on the board behind you
“Oh my fucking god” Wanda whispered and her best friend Nat perked up from her half boredom nap “what’s up Maximoff?” She looked at you then back at Wanda and smiled wide “you like the teacher? Dude she’s old enough to be your mom”
Wanda slapped Nat on the arm “shut up Nat no she’s the woman I saw outside and told her I thought the new teacher would be a bitch, god she’s going to hate me”
Nat watched your eyes search for something and land on the distressed Wanda, you smiled and turned back to the board writing the objective down and introducing yourself and talking about what everyone would be doing today
“Wands I don’t think she’s mad at you, she’s just searched for you and smiled when she found you, you’re so going to have sex with a teacher this year and I’ve never been more proud” she wrapped Wanda into a bear hug and squeezed her hard, when she finally pulled away Wanda looked to the front seeing you sorting some papers out, you were very pretty, she thought
“Are you thinking about it?” Nat giggled and Wanda swatted her away “no, no I’m thinking about the clearly illegal age gap”
Nat scoffed “oh come off it, you’re 22 and she looks about 30 something, it’s not illegal wands”
Wanda shrugged “still feels wrong though”
“Okay sure Wanda” Nat ripped up some of the paper from her notebook, scrunched it up and threw it at your head as you turned to the board forcing you to turn around quickly “and who threw that? I didn’t know I was in a class with children”
Nat put her hand up and pointed to Wanda “it was Wanda professor, she said you looked like a bit- “Nat!!”
Wanda tried but you interjected “okay! Natalia thank you for being honest and Wanda please see me after class to talk about your behaviour” you turned back around to the board and Wanda glared at Nat with fury in her eyes
“I’m going to murder you in your sleep” she whispered and Nat just laughed “you won’t be able to kill me when your face deep in the professor”
“You’re disgusting” Wanda rolled her eyes and tried to focus on the lesson, why were you so attractive Jesus Christ, she couldn’t focus, god this was going to be long year.
*****************************************************
“Miss Maximoff don’t forget to stay behind” your voice echoed in the room and Wanda sat back down in her chair flipping Nat off as she left, the whole lesson Wanda felt like she couldn’t breathe, whenever you glanced to her her breath hitched again and her face turned the same colour as her hair.
When the room emptied and all that remained were you and Wanda, Wanda started feeling sick, what was gonna happen, she couldn’t believe it she’d definitely kill Nat later
“Wanda come to the desk please I can’t talk to you if you’re sat far away from me” your voice was stern like a police officer and Wanda just wanted to run away but she dragged herself to your desk
“So, what a start to lesson hmm? First you crashed into me in the hallway, indirectly call me a bitch and now you’ve thrown paper at me why? Because you wanted too?”
Wanda shook her head “no no no I didn’t throw the paper my friend Nat did then blamed it on me because she wanted me to stay behind!”
You quirked an eyebrow in question and Wanda blushed a deep red again at her outburst, but that didn’t bother you, students would yell at you all the time, it was comical sometimes “and why did she want you to stay back?”
Wanda stepped from foot to foot keeping her face towards the floor “Idunno”
She didn’t notice you step up and round the desk coming to stand in front of her, that was until your fingers held under her chin lifting her face up to look you in the eye “I want to be looked at when being spoken too Wanda now, tell me exactly why Natalia wanted you to stay behind”
Wanda couldn’t move, or maybe she didn’t want to move, maybe she wanted you to caress her whole face they way you were rubbing her chin in a soothing way forever, wait were you moving closer? Oh god your breath was on her cheek
“I’m waiting darling” your voice broke Wanda out of her small trance “o-oh er yeah she thinks you like me and was searching for me in class so then me staying behind means it would be a good thing….”
“Do you think I like you?” You whispered and Wanda’s breath hitched “erm”
“Actually don’t tell me, I already know the answer but I won’t push you, be a good girl and go to your next class okay?”
You let go of her chin and Wanda left the room faster than she wanted to admit and it made you smile “she’s adorable”
********************************************************
“Nat!” Wanda burst into her and Nat’s shared accommodation not noticing the scrunchie on the door so you were met with Maria hill straddling her friends waist both without shirts or bras on but to be fair she didn’t care at this point she just needed to tell Nat what happened
“Wanda! There’s a scrunchie on the door you know the rules!” Nat scrambled to get Maria and herself covered with some blankets
Wanda realised it was Maria and momentarily forgot about the intimate interaction between herself and you
“Wait Maria? I’ve seen you slap Nat a few times whenever she tried flirting with you what’s going on?”
The flustered woman held the blanket close to her chest “well Wanda that’s what happens when you get worn down and have sex at a house party, turns out Nat is good enough with her tongue to keep her around”
Nat had that stupid smug look on her face that Maria wanted to smack off of her “don’t be so smug Nat, when someone better comes along I’ll move on”
Nat faked gasped “oh nooo I’m devastated”
“Whatever, anyway Wanda don’t you have another class now?”
Wanda nodded “yeah but I couldn’t go I’m too stressed and upset and I need help!”
She slumped down onto her bed and Nat quickly jumped to her side, with a hoodie thrown to her by Maria
“Tell us red, tell your parents what happened” she rubbed Wanda’s shoulders in comfort and winked at Maria who just scoffed “I’m not anyone’s daddy thanks”
Nat stopped comforting Wanda for a second “woah woah, why would you be the daddy? Why aren’t I daddy?”
“Because you’re on your knees for me more than you are in classes so that makes me a daddy”
Nat blushed hard “hey but-
“Guys! Please I need to tell your guys what happened before I combust!”
Nat and Maria’s attention quickly went back to Wanda “okay sweetheart tell us, what happened with the new teacher”
Wanda nodded “okay, well I stayed behind and she made go to her desk to be close to her so she could talk to me and then I told her it was Nat being a bitch and wanting me to stay behind because you thought she liked me and then she held me chin and forced my head up to look at her while we talked because she said she didn’t like it when people didn’t look at her when talking then she got so close I could feel her breath on my face and then she asked if I liked her then she said she already knew the answer and sent me off to my lesson but I came straight here”
The two girls were silent, extremely unsure of what to say and Wanda got nervous “Nat? Nat say something please it’s your fault I’m in this mess”
Nat shrugged “Wands, she likes you! You’re so in, unless you felt uncomfortable because obviously that’s not good, did you feel uncomfortable? I wouldn’t but I know what you’re like”
Wanda didn’t answer, was she uncomfortable? No she didn’t think so
Maria came to sit on the opposite side of Wanda now wearing a hoodie too “how do you feel Wanda, like truly feel? If she did make you uncomfortable you could go to the dean and tell him about it, innocent flirting and such is fine but if it’s truly upsetting you-
Wanda shook her head “no no I’m not uncomfortable I’m just confused and stressed because what if she’s just being really really nice? Teachers are like that and then students get in trouble for it because we misread situations”
The three girls sat in silence for a while letting everything soak in, the silence was broken when Nat got a text message from the sorority she was in “hey Wanda we’re having a party tonight, maybe it’ll get your mind off professor hot for a while”
Wanda groaned laying back on her bed “I’m not big on partying you know that”
“Yeah but I think you need it tonight, plus no classes tomorrow it’s Saturday so it’s perfect!”
Wanda knew Nat wouldn’t let up and she didn’t mike letting her best friend down “alright fine”
Nat squealed in excitement “yay! I can’t wait to get you absolutely shitfaced drunk”
Maria rolled her eyes “I can’t believe I’m sleeping with you”
Nat shrugged “At least I’m in a sorority so I’m sorta popular”
“Thank god”
******************************************************
“There’s a sorority party tonight, perfect for a new professor to get to know everyone” Tony stark had taken you under his wing, in fact he insisted on it, you had no choice but he seemed alright and his wife was fun too so that was okay
“A party at a sorority? I’m not a spring chicken anymore Stark I can’t be seen hanging around students” you laughed but the man scoffed
“Let me tell you Y/n these guys don’t care if teachers go or not, me and pepper go every few months just to show our faces, plus pepper is amazing at beer pong, it’s a little hot actually”
Pepper slapped Tony on his shoulder to stop him talking “calm down cowboy don’t scare her off yet, but he is right, going to the party could be good, plus maybe you’ll have some fun with someone” Pepper winked
“Wouldn’t that be inappropriate Mrs stark?” You smirked and the woman just laughed “not at this party, there’s a few older sorority members that go, so you may have a chance”
Pepper offered you some chocolate which you took “actually there is someone I want to ask you about”
Tony’s ears pricked up and he slid into the chair next to you “oh? Please tell me everything, your first day and something’s already happened”
You waved him off “nothing big just, what is Wanda maximoff like in lessons? Is she shy?”
Pepper smiled “Wanda is a brilliant student, I think she’ll really excel, she is a little quiet though and it’s a shame because I think she has valid questions but she’ll only ask them after class or if her friend Nat asks for her, it’s her last year this year so maybe she’ll surprise us”
“She likes being involved in my practical experiments only because I’m so flamboyant so she doesn’t have much attention on her, why do you ask? Was she bad in your lesson? That would be exciting”
You shook your head “she wasn’t bad, Nat got her in trouble and I made her stay behind and we talked for a bit”
Pepper sensed you wanted to say more “go on Y/n”
“I know she likes me and it was adorable how she was so flustered about it”
Tony jumped up from his chair and high fived his wife “I knew Wanda was gay! You owe me $50”
Pepper shoved her husband and you both laughed when he fell over “don’t start Tony it was a silly bet I’m not paying anything to you”
“Wait you guys have bets on a student’s sexuality?”
“Doesn’t matter anyway you’re going to that party tonight and we’ll come with you, pack your party clothes”
Tony jumped up from the floor and dusted himself off “we’re going partying? Hell yeah I can bust out some dance moves tonight”
Pepper kissed him on the cheek and looked at him lovingly “if you dance at any point during the night I will divorce you and go and sleep with dean Coulson”
Tony was taken aback “oh, no dancing then got it”
“You guys are wild”
You sigh as you walk into the lecture hall where your History class is, coffee in hand, already tired of this week and it’s only Tuesday.
You sit down in your usual seat and take out your laptop, taking notice that Steve, Bucky and Sam, the only ones of your friends that take this class with you, aren’t here yet.
Looking at the time you realize it’s still pretty early, so you take advantage of the peace an quiet to start your homework for other classes due next week as you wait for your friends and the professor to show up.
After about 10 minutes, Steve comes in, sits next to you and smiles at you. “Hey, beautiful.” He says in a playful tone, like he always does.
“Hi, Stevie.” You say while chuckling.
Steve is a bit of a flirt with you, but only because you both know he doesn’t really think of you that way; You tried dating freshman year but realized you were better off as friends. Still, he feels more comfortable with you than with other girls, so he flirts with you a lot while he’s pretty shy around girls he actually likes.
He gives you a charming smile and looks at the computer screen to see what you’re doing. “What’s up, nerd?”
“Not your grades, jackass.” You tease him back with a grin.
“That was uncalled for, you jerk!” He chuckles and then, when he notices you’re doing homework for other classes, he frowns. “Shouldn’t you be studying History?”
“I already handed in my essay, so I thought I’d get ahead on my homework for next week.” You explain, your eyes still on the essay you’re writing for your advanced lit class.
“You do know that you're not supposed to finish all your homework, right?” He looks at you in mock disbelief and scoffs. “That's against what the college experience is all about… You’re supposed to be irresponsible about studying until the deadline is almost up only to panic and start studying at like midnight.”
You finally look at him and laugh, his expression so shocked you’d think you told him you killed someone.
“That might be the way you jocks do it, but doing it my way allows me to go out and have fun and get drunk every single weekend without worrying about failing.” You say playfully, teasing him about being a football player.
Almost all the guys in your friend circle (Steve,Tony, Bucky, Thor, Clint, Sam, Scott and Pietro) are on the university’s football team, and Steve is the Quarterback. only Loki and Bruce aren’t, while you, Natasha and Wanda are cheerleaders and you’re the head cheerleader.
Steve crosses his arms and tries to act annoyed to keep the joke going, though he can’t help but chuckle. “And it allows you to be an obnoxious know-it-all. That's why you can’t keep a boyfriend.”
“Ouch!” You say while dramatically putting a hand above your heart, pretending he actually wounded you. “Low blow, Rogers.”
You laugh together, it’s not like it bothers you, you’re not ashamed that you don’t have a boyfriend and you know Steve is only teasing. So you tease him back.
“Didn’t think you’d stoop so low.” You shake your head, pretending to be disappointed. “You’ve been spending way too much time with Tony.”
“Don’t act like you’ve never told me about how many of my girlfriends were dumb as bricks.” He rolls his eyes with a chuckle. “Also, you think Tony’s the one who spends too much time with me?” He raises an eyebrow at you, and you know where he’s going with this. “Who was the one that came with me to the Super Bowl last weekend?”
“Guilty as charged.” You say while chuckling as you think how much fun you had last Sunday together when he took you to the Super Bowl because neither Bucky nor Sam could make it. “But, in my defense, some of your past girlfriends were dumb as fuck since they only wanted you because you’re the team’s quarterback and not because of the amazing person you are.”
It may sound flirty, but you’re just being honest. Steve may be hot, but he’s also really caring, sweet and one of your best friends. It’s a shame a lot of girls can’t see past his football player status.
The fact that you said that still surprises him, though. He smiles a bit, not expecting you to point out how shallow the girls who only date him for his status are. Though he quickly hides it, acting like a jerk again.
“You say that like you're any different. You're the head cheerleader and you're a goddess. The only reason anyone would want to date you is because of your beauty.” He says it with a playful grin, just trying to mess with you.
“Which is why I’m single.” You reply back playfully. You know you’re in his same situation but, unlike him, you stay away from dating unless you know the person actually likes you for you.
“Most guys on campus think I’m dating you, though.” You add absentmindedly while looking back at your computer. “You know, because of the whole ‘head cheerleader and quarterback’ thing. It also doesn’t help that you flirt with me relentlessly.” You chuckle.
It’s not like it bothers you, but he does flirt with you a lot in front of other people that don’t understand that both of you just see each other as friends. Which is also why a lot of girls hate you, and a lot of Steve’s past girlfriends had a problem with your friendship. Thankfully, Steve never let any of them influence the way he acts around you.
“Let them think what they want.” He says with a cocky grin, before his face quickly turns serious. “Actually, there is a guy on campus that asked me if you had a boyfriend.”
“Do I even want to know?” You ask, raising an eyebrow as you look back at him.
“Probably not, but I’m going to tell you anyway.” He leans forward, pretending to whisper in your ear just to be dramatic about it. “His name starts with ‘T’ and ends with ‘ony Stark’.”
You let out the breath you didn’t even know you were holding in and groan when you realize he’s just messing with you, the jerk.
“You’re fucking with me.” you roll your eyes and look back at your computer.
You both know Tony doesn’t see you like that. He’s had a massive crush on this girl Pepper since freshman year, even if he’d never admit it out loud. But your whole friend group is aware of it.
You personally have some classes with her, but you’re not exactly friends. Still, you think she’s a pretty cool person, though she’s friends with girls you don’t really care for.
Steve laughs at your reaction. “Yeah, I know, but the look on your face was priceless.”
You roll your eyes again, focusing on your essay for a minute before his voice captures your attention again. “But now that we’re on the subject… Who do you think likes you?”
“You mean besides every guy on campus with a cheerleader fantasy?” You ask playfully with your eyes still on your computer.
“Besides that, you dork.” He says chuckling. “I mean… Out of all the guys in our friend group… Who do you think likes you?”
You suddenly stop writing on your computer, looking up at him with narrowed eyes. “Do you know something I don’t?” You ask him suspiciously.
“I might…” He says casually, shrugging before adding. “Let’s just say that a certain friend of ours has been asking about you quite a lot.”
“Are you gonna tell me who it is?” You ask, raising an eyebrow at his cryptic answer.
“Nope.” He grins. “You’ll need to guess.”
“You’re having way too much fun with this.” You tease him while looking back at your laptop, not really in the mood to play this game right now.
“That’s because you’re gonna go crazy trying to figure it out.” He chuckles and turns to look at the window as if he’s thinking. “Do you want a hint?”
“Fine, I’ll bite.” You say with a sigh, your essay completely forgotten now. “Give me the damn hint.”
He chuckles and thinks for a moment, before carefully saying, “The guy in question is the opposite of me in pretty much everything.” he stays vague, not really trying to make it too obvious to you.
You frown. The first name that immediately pops into your mind is Bucky.
Everyone on campus knows they're complete opposites; sure, they're both tall, muscular dudes with blue eyes, but Steve is blonde, sunny, outgoing and friendly, while Bucky is a brunette, brooding, closed off and more of the shy type. Yet somehow they're best friends, almost brothers. Everyone thinks they're the Yin and Yang of best friends.
But that can't be who Steve's talking about, right?
Before you can answer, Bucky and Sam come into the lecture hall and take a seat next to you, Bucky on Steve's other side and Sam on yours.
When they arrive, both you and Steve quickly try to look like he hasn’t said anything at all, but Bucky and Sam quickly realize that something is up by the way he’s acting and by the fact that you’re clearly only pretending to be focused on your laptop just to not look at them.
Sam gives you a curious look but doesn't say anything, knowing that if something’s up you will probably tell them later. Bucky, on the other hand, just glares at Steve. He knows him too well and he knows that Steve was probably messing with you.
Thankfully, before anyone can say anything, the professor comes in and the History class starts. Although, admittedly, this is one time that you’re having trouble concentrating because damn Steve got in your head.
After a few minutes of lecture, Steve leans over to talk to you quietly, so the others couldn't hear him.
“So, have you figured out who it might be yet”? He says it with a devious grin, enjoying the fact that you’re now stuck thinking about it during the whole class.
“I hate you.” You whisper back but the small smile on your face makes it clear that you don't mean it.
He lets out a small chuckle. “So, that’s a no.” He says it in a playful, cocky tone.
“I'm trying to pay attention, if you don't mind.” You say playfully while nodding towards the professor who's giving his lecture undisturbed.
“Alright, alright.” He lets out a small chuckle. “I'll let you pay attention to the class.”
He leans back on his chair, acting like he didn't do anything to make you curious about who might like you. Though, he has no idea how distracted you really are now, only one thought clear in your mind.
I can’t believe that idiot got into my head.
After your class ends, you gather your stuff as fast as you can. “I gotta get to chemistry.” You say to the guys as an excuse and quickly walk out, which is not really a lie since you do have chemistry class next.
Tumblr media
You walk into the lab and find Bruce already sitting there, so you sit next to him since you're lab partners.
Bruce is already working on something, and when you sit he doesn't say much, he just nods to acknowledge your presence as he continues to work on whatever he’s doing.
He seems to notice that you look distracted as you put on your goggles and he says to you quietly. “You good?”
“Yeah, just Steve being a jackass.” You joke. Bruce knows as much as you how much Steve likes to joke and he knows you don't really think Steve is a jackass.
“Classic Steve.” He chuckles and nods before going back to working on your chemistry project.
He's pretty good at picking up when something is troubling you without you having to actually say it, though, so a few minutes later, he speaks up again.
“Are you sure that it was just Steve being a jackass?” He says in a genuinely concerned tone.
“I'm okay, Brucie.” You tell him with a smile, grateful for his concern but it's not needed right now. You shift the focus back to your project, helping him make progress.
He just gives you a smile when he realizes you don't want to talk about it but doesn’t push it. He knows that you will tell him when you feel like it. So, instead, he focuses back on the project too.
Half hour into working on the project, he turns to you and says. “Hey, can I ask you something?”
“Yeah, what is it?” You ask a little distractedly while you keep my attention on your project with a small frown as you try to fix the formula in your notebook.
He sighs and looks down. “Well, you know how Steve likes to tease you a lot, right?”
“Yeah?” You say back, not sure where he's headed with this. “So what?”
“Well, I guess what I'm trying to ask you is…” He looks up to you again. “Do you think all those times he was teasing you, he was just being annoying or…” He trails off, not sure how to finish his question.
That finally catches your complete attention and you put down the beaker in your hand. “Or what? He likes me?” You ask incredulously as Bruce nods.
“Steve doesn't like me like that.” You say with no hesitation. We dated for like a week back in freshman year and we both agreed it didn't work. He just teases and flirts because he's comfortable with me. I'm one of his best friends.” You say casually while picking the beaker back up and continuing to work on your project.
That's not exactly the reaction Bruce expected. “Wait… you dated?” He raises an eyebrow, his interest piqued as he looks at you with a curious grin.
“Yeah, it was before we had our friend group.” You say absentmindedly. “He was cute and all, so we went on a few dates and got along pretty well, but after one kiss we realized there weren't any romantic feelings there.”
That's actually how your friend group started: Steve introduced you to Bucky and Sam, then they joined the football team and you became a cheerleader where you met Nat and Wanda and you all just kind of started to hang out together.
Then the guys got closer with some of the other football players on the team, so Thor, Scott, Tony and Clint added to the mix, Pietro too since he’s also Wanda’s brother. Loki joined you just because he was Thor’s brother, but you all ended up getting along, and you introduced Bruce to the group since you’ve been lab partners since Sophomore year. Then, lastly, Vision started hanging out with you when he started dating Wanda, but he’s not that much into ‘the friend group’ thing, as he once put it.
Bruce is silently surprised by the fact that Steve and you dated, his attention locked on you as he says, “So… I take it that you see Steve as nothing more than a friend? Even with all the flirting?”
“It doesn't bother me,” You shrug. “I know he doesn't mean it. And it helps him practice too, he used to be so shy around girls.” You point out before chuckling.
“I mean, he still is around girls he likes, but, trust me, it used to be much worse.”
Bruce chuckles. He knows Steve can be shy, he can’t imagine him being even shyer. “Well, he certainly seems more comfortable flirting with girls and talking to girls he is interested in now.”
He then pauses for a moment, thinking about what you two just talked about before speaking up again. “Can I ask you another question?”
“Sure.” You say while you keep working on your project that he doesn’t seem to be as interested in today as he is in your love life.
He sighs for a moment, seemingly hesitating when he finally asks his question. “Have you ever thought about dating anyone from the group lately?”
Your face gets a pink hue and you try your best not to stutter, the question completely unexpected.
“Uhm… Maybe.” You say cryptically, but making it clear that you don't really want to talk about it.
Bruce has no trouble reading your reaction and, with how close you two are, he is even more curious about it since you haven’t mentioned anything to him. “Can I ask who?”
You look at Bruce and sigh. He's always been a very good friend to you and you have no reason not to trust him. You know he would never tell anyone a secret, even your friends.
“Well, maybe… Maybe lately I've been thinking about how cute Bucky is…” You say quietly, your eyes down on the formulas you're working on.
Bruce is surprised by your answer. The thought had certainly crossed his mind, but he didn't think that you would be interested in Bucky.
His expression changes to a smirk and you internally groan, immediately regretting saying anything.
“Bucky, huh?” He teases you a bit more than he usually would, knowing that he can. “I would've thought that you would've been more interested in Tony.”
You roll your eyes playfully. “Why does everybody keep saying that? We all know Tony's head over heels for Pepper, even if he'd never admit it.”
Bruce laughs at your comment. “Okay... let's forget that for a second.” He has a mischievous grin on his face, since he loves teasing you. Though, he always makes sure not to go over the line.
“So, what do you like about Bucky? Is it his eyes? The fact that he's handsome? His big muscles?” He's definitely doing his best to tease you right now.
“Okay, maybe you're the one with a crush.” You tease him back before actually taking a moment to think about the answer.
Bucky’s always been kind of a mystery, and maybe that’s part of the appeal, and he’s certainly hot, but… Truth is, the more you know him, the more you like what you discover about him.
“I know he seems like this hot, broody, intimidating football player,” You start quietly, looking at the beaker in your hands. “but when you get to know him, he's sweet and funny and caring and sensitive… He's a lot of things.” you finish, your mind filling with all the memories you have of Bucky, both with your friend group and those rare times it was just the two of you.
Bruce can't help but chuckle with a smirk on his face. “So, you definitely have a thing for Bucky then, huh?” He's enjoying this immensely, and he still has a smirk on his face as he decides to tease you a bit more.
“And here I thought that you would prefer someone more muscular, like Thor.” He can't help but grin mischievously when he says this. He's definitely enjoying this too much for your taste, so tease him right back.
“We both know Thor is more your type.” You say with a grin, knowing Bruce has had a crush on Thor since forever.
He raises an eyebrow, seeming surprised that you called him out like that.
“Oh, so now I'm the one who has a crush on someone!” He chuckles. “Thor's not my type, thank you very much.”
He looks down and smiles, he can't really deny it and he knows you know it. “Besides, he's not one to date anyone, we both know that.”
“Maybe that's because no one he likes has tried to date him…” You say cryptically.
You’re convinced Thor and Bruce are both crushing on each other, but they're both too chicken to actually do something about it. Maybe you should take matters into your own hands.
Bruce's eyes narrow for a second, as if he's suspicious of what you just said and he clears his throat. “Well, maybe no one has tried to date him because nobody would think that Thor would be interested in them, right? And who's to say that someone like you hasn't tried to flirt with Thor and got rejected by him?” Bruce tries to play it cool, but you can see right through him.
“Oh, trust me. A lot of girls like me have tried to flirt with Thor and got rejected. I guess they just weren't his type.” You say with a grin, enjoying the way Bruce is blushing at what you’re implying.
Bruce turns his head away completely, suddenly feeling a little embarrassed by your words. He clears his throat before he lets out a small chuckle. “So, you're telling me that just because Thor rejected all those girls before, it means he’s just waiting for the right one?”
“Or maybe it's not about waiting for the right girl.” You try to drop a hint, but it seems like, as bright as Bruce is, he's not getting what you’re insinuating. Or he’s pretending not to.
“So, what do you think he's waiting for? The right guy then?” He chuckles, finding the whole idea funny. Especially since he has no clue that you're actually trying to play matchmaker, something he never suspected you would do, but the idea is already forming in your mind.
You shrug casually. “I don't know.” Is all you say but, before he can say anything else, your class is over. “I have engineering next. See you at lunch?” you ask Bruce since everyday your group of friends has lunch together.
He nods, still unsure about what to make out of your answer, though he decides to drop it for now. “Yup. See you at lunch.”
Bruce packs his things and heads out of the lab. He still has an hour before lunch and he's definitely still curious about what your answer meant and what you might have been implying.
He can’t help but think, I can’t believe that idiot got into my head.
