Tower of London, Natalia Lewandowska

Original Artwork Linen Canvas 70 x 100 cm Usually, word 'tower' reminds of iconic Tower of London (1066), which is one of Britain's most visited historic UNESCO sites. Today, perception of this word by a young Londoner couldn't be more different. It brings to mind council flats, benefits and metal signs written in red paint: 'No ball games'. Grenfell Tower Fire is an example of modern 'tower', where reality of living in London is exposed. Perhaps, after death of over 80 people trapped in a blaze, Prime Minister realises that iconic 'towers' were built by people who live in concrete 'towers'.

Chomolungma III, Natalia Lewandowska

"Chomolungma" is a project composed out of three engraved plywood plank panels. This panel (III) represents topographical map of the Mount Everest made out of words associated with past accidents on/around the mountain. Main keywords are: Beijing; records; rescue; euro copter; millionaire; death zone; Tibet; effort; died; disaster; controversy; north ridge; oxygen; south col; exhausted; body; blood; crashed; pressure; Chinese; climb; ropes; prostitiusion; khumbu; theft; crimes; knife; impossible; Nepal; corpses; unsportsmanlike; crashed; north col; physicist; abandoned; breathe; Chomolungma; killed; human. This artwork was exhibited at The Old Police Station Gallery, New Cross, London 2009.
