I searched 'natalia grace' because I've been watching season 2 of The Curious Case of Natalia Grace, and the results are overwhelmingly this same post, with the same tags, with everything stylized almost exactly the same.
sure.. I totally believe this is real and not an attempt to push the dumbass narrative that she wasn't a child.

Not related to what I usually post but the Natalia Barnett story is the most horrific example of institutional ableism I've seen in recent years. The fact that the public was so willing to believe, and some people are STILL willing to believe this sensational horror story about an adult masquerading as a child, even after it's been proven false through DNA and medical records, just because she is disabled, is staggering. And I don't see enough people talking about the obvious ableism that permeates every aspect of this case.
When the story initially hit about "an adult pretending to be a child and menacing her adoptive family" I was twelve, four years older than Natalia actually was at the time. And even I, a literal stupid child, thought it was a fishy story and the parents were probably lying and I was NOT an especially bright or observant child. The fact that adults believed that, the fact that her age is still legally recognized as thirty-five when she is currently twenty-one as proven by DNA analysis and her Ukrainian birth records, is a horrible, horrible demonstration of the objectification of children, demonization of the mentally ill and traumatized, and the horrific institutional neglect of the physically disabled. It makes me genuinely sick. I gotta ask, if you heard this story back in 2012ish, and you believed the parents and you were OVER the age of like fourteen at the time, fucking why?? How?? Fuck. I'm glad that documentary came out to shed some light on the situation but even that felt exploitative of the situation.
#If I ever become a lawyer I swear to god I'd take her case for free if not for the fact I can't see any other reason to get barred in IN#she needs to sue the fucking state of Indiana for their gross mishandling of her legal case#especially as someone who cares about the legal process enough to want to work within it for the rest of my life its so disgusting#natalia barnett#the curious case of natalia grace#natalia speaks#ableism

Natalia Speaks Ep. 2
Well, that's a start. A bit overboard with the motivational speech, but okay.
Is it really money, tho? Come on. I mean it's not surprising that she took her kid's money, but is that really it? That's her money?
Jacob only has my respect. He seems to be the only normal one in the family. He is right, he needs to be able to sustain himself, that is part of the criteria for existence. I'm definitely using that from now on.
Freddie, what about the ominous ending last season?!
Who is saying that? I need to know who's behind that voice. I would like to think they are not lying and really witnessed that, but it doesn't track.
Really? Barnett Academy? I mean, can't complain about those classes. To be honest, I don't know if I would've gotten A at making spaghetti at that age. But he is a genius.
Again with the pepper spray?
Omg, just imagine literally being eight years old and your "mother" hates you and singles you out and never makes you feel appreciated or even loved. Everything is intensified at that age.
And hiding her on the stroller?
Seriously Michael? You know what she means when she asks that. You're trying to play the victim still? Not him trying to cry.
Um, that scalated quickly. Not Michael throwing a tantrum. What's with storming off like that? It was just a simple "please don't curse". The lawyer saying they wouldn't ask him not to be a Christian? Like, I'm not that religious but I don't think that's the same thing. Sure, her father shouldn't have intervened but I feel that reaction was way overkill. I know it's a lot of emotions, but the way he started screamming and having a meltdown, really doesn't sit right with me.

Look I'm super late to the case but I really believe Natalia Grace. The Barnetts have provided no genuine evidence- they've said doctors have confirmed this and that, but they have not shown any doctor's notes and no doctor has spoken in their defense. Hell, the doctor they took her to couldn't even identify the form of dwarfism Natalia had- yeah, the doctor diagnosed her with a different form of dwarfism. A lot of the things they say she did, such as standing over them, nearly pushing the mom into an electric fence, or putting knives on top of the fridge, are physically impossible for a person of any age when they're her size (she was two feet tall at the time and is under four feet tall now, with a lot of physical disability.) And this is despite how multiple doctors the Barnetts took her to confirmed Natalya being a child. Meanwhile, her first adopted family, her birth mother, and her new adoptive family have provided evidence of her being in the ballpark of being born in 2003, maybe a tiny bit older or younger, and Natalia really does act like a teenager, just a teenager who has gone through some stuff.
I really believe they left this child with major medical needs in an apartment on her own. Her story just makes a lot more sense than theirs does.

"The Spark" and Natalia Grace's Plight
I’ve pondered here about Natalia Grace Barnett before. If you’re not familiar, she is a Ukrainian orphan adopted by an American family who then suspected her of being a dwarf adult and not a child at all. The adoptive parents had her legally reaged and booted her to the curb and come to find out, all evidence points to the fact that she was 9 or 10 when they reaged her to 22 and this is basically…

I have been watching the Curious Case of Natalia Grace, mainly for the second season where Natalia actually gets to speak for herself. It is so beyond upsetting, do not watch unless you're ready to rage.
There is a Lot to the story but I will sum it up as best I can. Natalia is a Ukrainian orphan with dwarfism, specifically Spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia congenita. Because of her disability she would need many surgeries for her feet, and money concerns related to this is considered one potential cause for what was to happen. After being passed around, a family called the Barnett's adopted her.
According them, Natalia was really an adult that was secretly trying to kill them. If it sounds familiar it's because it's the plot of the movie Orphan. This poor girl wound up with an incredibly abusive family that eventually decided they didn't want her but because the mother was so concerned with her image, she couldn't be seen as getting rid of a disabled child. So she tried to pass Natalia off as an adult pretending to be kid, and after lies and faked drama the Barnett's actually got Natalia legally re-aged to 22.
Natalia was actually about 8 years old. Dental records, DNA tests, doctor's records, her own biological mother, who gave her up because she couldn't care for a disabled child, all say she was born in 2003 and was a child at the time of these events.
So Natalia was put in an apt at age 8, and Mrs Barnett forced her to tell people she was 22. Ableism and ignorance of little people plays a huge part here, otherwise no one would have believed her age was 22 nor would it have been legally changed. Even though neighbors thought she was young, they went with the lie and proceeded to view entirely childish behavior as weird and annoying. Because she lacked the fucking boundaries and sense of stranger danger of a typical 8 year old!!!!! They also said she said a lot of sexually stuff, and I don't know why I should need to explain to you what 8 year olds do when they hear things!!! An 8 year old with no adult, looking to anyone for company and just help. It's beyond upsetting to think of what it must have been like for her during this time.
Natalia was evicted after a year and moved to another apartment. Not too long after being there she met a family that recognized she was a fucking child, took her in, and called the goddamn cops. First people in Natalia's poor life to do something for her. She is still with them to this day, with what looks like a beautiful loving family.
The Barnett's were charged, the husband was ables to get acquitted in part because the judge decided her Legal age would stand, and he could only be accused of abandoning a disabled person and not a minor. Meanwhile no one could let the jury know she was really a minor when this happened. Huge miscarriage of justice and the wife was never taken to trial.
It's a hard documentary to watch, especially when you get a lot of the Barnett's story first without much dissecting of the facts. But then you do get Natalia's side, and the Barnett's lies are laid to waste. One of them being that Natalia had pubic hair and a period. She never did, the wife made her say it to the husband. I mean, there's a lot of fucked up shit that happened to Natalia that I have not mentioned. I'm also not getting into the drama within the Barnett family except to say the husband tried to blame it all on the wife, claims he was abuse and avoids accountability, and is the most pathetic excuse for a human being, honestly. The wife is no better, she's just a monster.
The thing that pisses me off so much though are the attorneys, especially this one guy that Knows Natalia was a child and acts like she has to take accountability for being a troubled child. Of course he offers up all excuses for his client.
And that's the rub, Natalia had her childhood robbed from her, then and now. She's not ever granted the view of her behavior as mitigated by being a child. They even showed one of her neighbors refuses to accept she was 8 and not 22, and she knows for sure because she was hussy and just knows how to put on an act. It just amazes me how quick we are to jump to the most negative explanation for something and ignore any evidence to the contrary.
I'm just glad Natalia was able to have a voice in this drama, and that she finally has the family she had always wanted.

Natalia Speaks Initial Thoughts
I waited so long for the second season to be released and I hate that they are releasing the episodes daily but I don't have that many thoughts yet.
It was pretty clear to me that Natalia was a child, since last season. Michael was a complete liar and I don't trust anyhing that comes out of his mouth. He is full of shit.
Kristine seemed pretty evil to me. Michael is a horrible person but Kristine may be the one who was pulling the strings. She at least is aware enough to not go doing interviews trying to make herself look like the victim and blaming the other party who she was suppoused to take care of.
Um, what about the ending of that dude talking about Natalia and accusing Michael of doing something? What happened there? Because I ended up pretty convinced something horrible had happened to Natalia because of Michael.
I still have beef with most of the adults interviewd last season. I'm looking at you nosy old grandma. At least the little people were so sweet, they seemed to really care for Natalia.
Honestly I just remember being so frustrated after I finished last season because it pretty much ended in nothing. So many adults seemed to fail her, it's heartbreaking. I'm dying to hear her side of the story. I wish and hope she can get the closure and justice that she deserves and needs.

Writing an essay on why Jacob Barnett's treatment is incredibly relevant in Natalia's entire case, as his parents demonstrated a clear love of exploiting their first disabled child for money and fame with no care for what it did to them. When they couldn't use Natalia like they used Jacob, they turned against her and turned their children against her. If you look back on it, you can see how their treatment of him was a warning sign. Even right now, when there's almost certainly a lot of stuff we don't know.

The media failed to investigate a tragic legal case, and instead, they continue to monetize exploitative narratives
According to the ID docuseries, the bulk of evidence — including hospital paperwork, dental records, testimony from her birth mother, and multiple medical tests (some of which the Barnetts were aware of at the time of re-aging) — indicate that Natalia Grace was born around September 2003, making her 23 years old as of 2024 and clearly a minor when she was left alone in Indiana. But few questioned the legal change to Natalia Grace’s age, and those who did assumed her size was due to her medical condition and child-like behavior was due to trauma, developmental delay, or deception.

I understand that lawyers have to do their jobs and Terrance Kinnard's job at the time was to represent Michael Barnett, but the motherfucking audacity of this man to look into a camera and state, on record, for the fucking world to see that Natalia needed to be "held accountable" for her "sexual promiscuity" as an 7-8 y/o child. As though this was evidence of her being dangerous and a manipulative mastermind beyond her years rather than a small child who'd been abused and taken advantage of, who wanted love and attention from adults which she'd never gotten throughout her extremely young life, and was saying and doing things her abusers cruelly taught her were perfectly normal ways of showing love.
I understand that his job is to cast doubt onto Natalia, but calling a small child "sexually promiscuous" and heavily implying that this is proof of her being dangerous is disgusting. It's perpetuating r*pe culture and p*do culture and actively makes the world a more dangerous place for girls and afabs everywhere. And he should be fucking ashamed of himself
