Natakas x Reader
“No, I will not let a Persian step into my house.” “But mater…” “Do not test me lamb.” “It’s okay… I’ll tell him.” “No [Y/N] wait!... Malaka…”
The conversation went just as you predicted it to be.
To be honest, it was not a surprise. After all, Myrinne’s father, Kassandra’s grandfather, died, albeit with eternal glory, in the brutal hands of Persian. You can only imagine how she feels about the current alliance of Sparta and Persia.
It was Kassandra’s idea. “The most dangerous place is the safest.” She said. After you two told her about finding a place to stay permanently, she suggested that you should live here, at Sparta, with him and dine with her family before settling down. The whole scenario is simply peculiar, since your only relationship with her family is Stentor and he is still out there for the war. Maybe Kassandra sees you as her real sibling, and is eager to reunite the family, but it is too much for you. Kassandra always brings people together. She brought him and you together.
You let out a big sigh on the middle of the main street, surrounding by a vibrant crowd minding their own business. Helios glides toward the west, softens daylight. Standing among people you could smell the sweat and incense lingering in the air. Reminding you of part of the reason you left all those years ago.
Then why do you feel disappointed? You ponder while dragging your pace along the stone-paved street. You left home as soon as the war started. Meeting Kassandra and traveling with her was a pleasant change but you don’t feel like your relationship should extend beyond sibling hood, and you certainly don’t need nor desire a new family. Piling up the list of people you care weary your mind with its burden. So why?
Maybe it is because of him.
Walking further down the street, passing the gate and finally out of the city, you see him standing by the gate in solitary, looking around with cautious. When his gaze finally meets with yours he breaks into a smile. He chuckles with relief, raising his arm to signal where he is.
He sprints toward you and takes you into his embrace. Maybe it’s because of him. Never have you forgotten that night in Makedonia, where he divulged his past without hesitation. You remember his expression when he talked about his late mother, about how she used to make anywhere they are like home. Maybe that’s it, a home.
“Didn’t go well?” He asked, holding you cheek in his warm and gentle palms. He looks right into your eyes like he always does.
You shake your head and sigh, with a sense of failing. But his smile remains, then leans closer to land a kiss on you cheek. “It’s alright. We can just go somewhere else.”
He puts his arm around your shoulder. The two of you facing south, the dusty road stretches in front of you under a cloudless sky. It speaks tranquility, a different world from within the gate.
“Where is Darius?” Looking around you question. “Out.” He laughs. “As always.” “Oh…” An idea comes to mind. “Well then, follow me. I want to take you somewhere.” Before ending your words you start walking.
“Where are we going?” He soon catches and you walk two abreast. “To my favourite place in Sparta.” You smile and take a glimpse at him. His hazel eyes shine with enthusiasm and glance back with the brightest beam.
On your way up to the hills, you see deers dancing across the field, warblers soaring up into the clouds. After spending days at sea you learn to appreciate the beauty of land once more. Sometimes you stop on the ridge to glance down at how much you have ascended. You can see him bouncing from one rock to another, striding behind and taking time to absorb the breathtaking scenery. Then comes the dearest moment of your time together, when your eyes meet, it always makes you smile with admiration.
“Are we there yet?” He beams at your reaction and shouts. “Almost!” While answering him, you pick up the pace and dash up the ridge.
Finally, you reach the destination. The city of Sparta spread out beneath you in the valley. From this height the city looks like a sleeping giant tucked away between mountains. The grand temple located on the hill nearly looks insignificant from here. All the noises, scents, and energy are blown away by the mild breeze that brings nothing but tranquility.
It’s your favourite spot in Sparta. On the mountaintop where one tree stands in solitary, like a lonely guardian watching over. From here you are able to see everything and nothing. What lies here is the delightful solitude you craved while being surrounded by people. Nevertheless, you don’t mind sharing this sanctuary with the person you love the most.
“Woah…” Arms akimbo, he stands in awe. “I can see why you like this place.” “Stunning right?” You take a seat below the tree and gesture him to sit. “And quiet.” “Kind of remind me of that house in Achaia...” It had been burned down. His face darkens for a millisecond, but soon he throws his head back and return with the usual smile, despite mixed with a subtle bitterness.
“Natakas… Are you disappointed?”
You can’t help but ask. He turns to you looking surprised. At first he tries to say something, his lips shiver, words hang in the air, gaze shifts around trying to focus. You sit beside him in silence. Your hands grasp onto the earth beneath. The warmth of sands comforts you, but it also makes you remember the horror of the burned down building, the smell of smouldered objects, and the lasted desolation, which remind you how many burnt down buildings he must have witnessed in his travel.
“About what?” He asks, staring blankly at the city, with that alluring curve still clinging upon his lips. “Everything?” What you hear next is a mellow chuckle you didn’t expect. “Not really.” You stare at him with your wide round eyes. “I left that emotion in that cave in Makedonia. Nowadays I just find things pity at most…” He rubs your dusty hand with affection. “Like, it’s a pity we can’t live here. But that’s alright. We can always find someplace else.”
You really had no clue what you expected to hear from him, yet you are pleased with his answer. Then why are you disappointed? Once more you ask yourself. You were thrilled to leave this place all those years ago. You have never considered this land as your home. Home is… you can’t apply it with a clear definition. It’s a vague and distinct concept for you. You remember what Natakas told you, about his past, about how his life so far has always been associated with running and hiding, about how he lost his family members during the process, about home.
“Don’t you want a home?” You intertwine your fingers with his, feeling his skin that has been roughened with years of archery and wandering. “I do...” He quickly replies yet pauses soon after. Then he continues with a mysterious tone. “Or I did…”
You look at him, baffled. When he smiles, you feel like he could see right through you. He might not have an appearance of a confident person, but he surely provides assurance whenever you need one.
“I did want a home. After my mother died… but…”
He leans closer to you, resting his head against yours. His eyes are brightened by the golden lights traveling through the leaves; and you are dazzled by the mesmerising sight. Lost within the beauty, you take a minute to realise the distance between your lips. No, concentrate, he is saying something important.
“Then I met you.” He chuckles; the voice you love the most. “With you, home is everywhere.”
“Since when you became so romantic?” The sense of relief makes you laugh. Or maybe it’s nervousness. You cannot think straight with the closeness.
His eyes widen with disbelief. “What are you talking about? I am always like this.” An eagle flies across the sky above you and makes a sound that resonates throughout the mountains. “See, even the eagle agrees.” “Now you are an eagle whisperer?” “I am a man with many talents.”
When you both burst into laughter, you lie down beneath the tree and see the sky above, so clear, so broad, so limitless. In this wide world, home is wherever you are with him.
With satisfaction you lean onto him, placing your hand on his chest, and brushes a kiss playfully across his lips. You want to say something, like appreciation or expressing adoration, but before you can think of any phrases he pulls you in for another kiss, then another, then deeper, stronger.
Laying on his chest, you could feel the racing heartbeats through your hands. You can feel his fingers grasping the back of your head, pulling you in with exhilaration. You let your hand dive beneath the rough fabric resting between you and him. His body heat and the coolness of the breeze are the perfect remedy.
“Ah there you are!” Just when you are ready to go further you hear Kassandra’s voice. Unfortunately, your reaction comes later than her embarrassing gasp.
“Kassandra!” You cry out simultaneously and pull away as fast as possible.
“This is awkward...” She tries to avoid meeting with your eyes. It doesn’t take much effort since you both are too embarrassed to raise your head. “Ummm…Anyway, I’m here to invite the both of you to dinner, at my place, with my family.”
You didn’t expect to hear this.
“But Myrinne said…” “Yes about that, Darius cleared everything out. You are good in her book.” “Father?”
“That’s right… So dinner, tonight, my place.” She speaks while she turns around. “I won’t disturb you further. Have fun you two. I’ll be on my way.” Before she finishes her sentence, she’s already gone. Leaving only her voice still lingering in your ears. When you finally raise your heads, she is long gone. Leaving you two petrified below the tree, speechless.
You take a moment to let the information sink in. The news and the circumstance you received it make the situation harder to comprehend. Perhaps you are dizzy beneath the scorching sun; or the blood that rushed toward your brain earlier made you lightheaded. The message was simple— dinner tonight at Kassandra’s house. Yet after feeling disappointed and eventually reaching reconciliation with yourself, the message befuddled you with its simplicity.
“Well, that good news.” Natakas breaks the silence. “I suppose it is...” Still astonished, you throw yourself back onto the grass bed. Your gaze drifts between the twinkling light dancing in the midst of leafy branches.
“Should we finish that?” He rolls to your side. Supporting his head with one hand, he eyes lock on your wandering gaze.
“What are you waiting for then?” You giggle when you turn and look into his eyes, wide, beguiling, dark yet luminous. The enchanting beauty you call home.

Sleep Talking
Natakas x Reader
A/N: This is probably the first one I’ve finished in one sitting. Wow. I’m still in denial btw.
p.s. Set in the end of ep2
“I will meet you two there later.”
Standing in your hideout in Achaia, Kassandra says with a smile. She has business to attend to, being a famous misthios, she always has. Another bandits to kill in the west of Achaia, you were there when she took the job, accepting it as soon as a bag of drachmes was dangling in front of her.
You didn’t mind that; you needed the drachmes, Achaia had not been treating you well since you set foot here. When you arrived not long ago, a group of bandits ambushed you in the woods, if your hadn’t been thinking about the message you and Kassandra received, you wouldn’t lose all the drachmes on you. You were just glad Kassandra caught you up in time and saw the bandits disappear in the thick green. The rest of that unfortunate day was full of exchange of “Malakas” and “I’m sorry.”
You didn’t mind. In fact, you were thinking about another subject Kassandra had discussed with you the other night. She was drunk; you were on Adrestia, celebrating defeating another pirate ship on your way to Achaia. Barnabas had been distributing several cups of wine around the crew.
“So you think it’s them?”
Between the conversation she turned and asked you, with that smug smile of hers lightened up by the fire. She is your dear sister, but that smile annoys you, always does.
“Could be. They are the only people we know who would send this kind of mysterious message.” With the papyrus in hand, you tried to identify the handwriting on it, with the memory of their handwriting in the cave in Makedonia.
You felt someone pushing your shoulder. It was Kassandra, chuckling softly, obviously drunk.
“So are you going to tell him?” “Tell him what?” You wished you were drunk enough to handle this question. “Oh, come on, it’s an open secret!” She laughs and giggles like a mischievous little child, sometimes it makes you wonder who is the older one. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” You turned your head away, shifting your focus back to the papyrus. “Bah, you’re no fun.” She turned back to rejoin the celebration
***
Now you are here with him, you cannot stop thinking about what Kassandra had said. It makes you anxious, not just about your apparent distracted mind, but also about the dire situation. It hadn’t occurred to you when you went to search the information of the Tempest with Kassandra and him. Not until now as Kassandra seems eager to leave you alone.
You feel someone staring at you, and you realise Darius is already gone.
“Take care of [Y/N] for me, Natakas. I’ll meet you in Dyme before you know it.”
Before you even has the chance to protest, she is already running off with her full speed, and disappears from your sight within a second.
He laughs and you sigh. Without further conversation, you follow Kleta to the villages she talked about.
It is a peaceful tiny village by the shore. At first you are surprised that how close it is to Kephallonia. You have heard about that island for thousands of times. Where Kassandra grew up always fascinates you because it sounds completely different from Sparta.
Kleta points out a house located on the hill beside the village. Looking from below you could already imagine the magnificent view you could overlook up there. You haven’t paid attention to Kleta’s words, your thoughts are all over the place. When you finally wander back to the reality, She is already leaving the town, waving goodbye from the other side of the bridge.
“You seem excited.” Natakas chuckles. It reminds you of that pleasant evening in Makedonia. “I just have a lot of things in mind.” You reply. Remembering he’s leaving tomorrow. “The view up there must be amazing.” Trying to distract yourself from the melancholy raising inside you. “Yes, it’s a beautiful place.” He seems unsettling. You wonder what’s on his mind. “Kassandra should be here right now.”
Turns out Kassandra arrives when the sun is about to set, just in time for enough daylight to climb up the hill. After exchanging a few words about the house, you head on inside. When you see the amphoras lying on the ground, you almost feel relief, crossing your finger hoping it is carrying wine inside. You want to drink, forget the doubts and troubles that has been clouding your mind since you arrived in Achaia. You all want to drink, to have a great night before parting for eternity. To leave a splendid memory of each other and hold dearly forever.
You have never seen Natakas like this. His imitation of Darius is perfect that makes you and Kassandra burst out laughing. You can’t remember the last time laughing like this. Maybe the wine is working its magic inside you. However, you are still bothered by all the worries. You decide to sneak out of the party and climb up to the roof. It is not a safe task to perform while being drunk, but the night wind has sobered you up a bit. When you finally reach the roof, you lay down an amphora beside you, pouring wine into the kylix till its full.
That night in Makedonia was much like this, but instead you were on Adrestia drinking with the crew, with them already gone.
The only thing that comforted you after the last separation, was that you would always stand under the same sky, the same night sky where you laugh and talk about life beside the bonfire. Yet you are not sure this time you would have the same optimistic attitude.
With the breeze brushing across your skin, you try to hum the song Kassandra always hum when she stands by the sea. Its rhythm and melody are soothing and calming. Eventually you lay your head down on the ground, with only the stars in your sight. Gently, slowly, quietly, you drift into a sweet slumber. Hypnos closes your eyes with his tender fingers.
***
“Where is [Y/N]?” It takes a while for Natakas finally notices your disappearance. But Kassandra has seen your exit, she is still sober.
“Sneaked out. Probably asleep on the roof.” She takes another drink and places the kylix on the table. “[Y/N] does that when she’s drunk.”
She wipes off the remaining wine hanging on the corner of her lips, prepares to set out again.
“I need to go now, need to prepare for tomorrow.” “What about [Y/N]?” Natakas looks confused. “Just bring her back to me in one piece tomorrow.” She grabs her spear and fixates it on her back. “That won’t be an issue.” He laughs, waving his hands urging Kassandra to go.
“Oh, by the way,” When she reaches the door, she turns back and walks toward Natakas. She leans closer to him, and whispers playfully into his ears. “She talks when she sleeps. And none of them are lies.”
Natakas looks puzzled, but the smile still clings upon his lips. His brown eyes shine with curiosity, glowing beside the candle light.
“My father does that too.” He laughs, and bids goodbye to Kassandra who runs away into the dark.
When he makes his way up to the roof, you are lying soundly under the night sky. The temperature in the air is perfect for sleeping outside. He goes down to grab a pillow and places it under your head. Sensing the motion, you remain asleep, but turn toward him and mumble a few words.
“Leaving again tomorrow.” He sighs, turns to you, gazing at your countenance, thinking, talking to himself, and chuckles. “I was hoping to hear something from you. Kassandra said you talk while you sleep.”
He stretches his hands toward you, but decides to reach for the empty kylix and amphora lying next to you, to place them beside him.
Maybe tonight reminds him of the night in Makedonia. Gazing the stars, remembering your expression when you tasted the food he cooked, the sparkle in your eyes that lightened up the dark night.
“Natakas don’t.”
Finally, you utter some words. He turns to you waiting for further movement, not expecting to see something dripping down from your cheeks.
You are trembling. He is panicking.
“Don’t go.”
You whisper. Probably suffering in a nightmare, the rhythm of your breath turns into a mess. He’s shocked. Looking around for Kassandra’s trace, but she was long gone.
In the end, he puts up his courage, and places his hand on your head, gently rubbing the soft hair of yours, still looking around, now trying to find something to say.
Thankfully, you soon return to a calm state. Inhaling and exhaling, it seems that you‘re sleeping soundly, but he senses some quivers through his fingers resting on your head. He pauses, remains silent for a long while. Eventually he turns back to you, opens his mouth, hoping his words would drift away with the evening breeze.
“I won’t.” He pauses once more, seems to regain confidence. Finally he smiles again. “Trust me.”

Ugh, just need to express some frustration on the new episode of First Blade. Haven't played it, haven't even seen it in my PS Store, but already seen the major spoiler of the ending.
Just have the following things to say:
I love Natakas, but I hate to be forced to end like that.
I'll still write a Natakas x Reader in the future.
I'll leave Kassandra for the ladies , thank you.
(Btw I always imagined there will be a twist, so I can finally get Kassandra to be with Neema, guess I would have to write it myself if Ubi f up) (actually finished one
(And thanks for astolove’s kind reminder. I learned sapphic has a broader meaning, so, not fit for the rambling here)
Totally unrelated, but on the plus side TTWD is back.
