Israel Adesanya has expressed his disappointment after suffering a shocking knockout loss to Nassourdine Imavov at UFC Fight Night 250 in Saudi Arabia. My stream went down right before Izzy got Ko'd. So that sucked. Damn, feel bad for Izzy, it looks like this is it for him as a title contender. Wonder if he retires. Imavov has real potential, huge win for him. What a sport

Israel Adesanya Loss Highlights A Key Issue With The UFC
Tumblr media
I am in a state of absolute despair after this weekend's UFC Fight Night main event saw Israel Adesanya lose to Nassourdine Imavov via tko.
It's been a slow decline for Izzy as far as his UFC career is concerned. After losing to Dricus Du Plesis at UFC 305 back in August.
However despite how I may feel as a fan and viewer, I can't help but notice something very wrong with how the UFC books it's fighters after losing championship bouts.
Tumblr media
It's always been how Dana's company have done things but that doesn't make it any less of a waste.
Why is a guy like Izzy, who although sliding down the middleweight rankings, fighting in non pay-per-view events?
This is Izzy coming off of 2 losses to current number 1 contender, Sean Strickland, and current champion, Dricus Du Plesis. Surely, putting him on a pay-per-view card makes more sense in terms of selling an event because he still has his name recognition and even if the UFC don't like it, that has value still.
So why don't the UFC do it?
The first thing that comes to mind is obviously money. The UFC don't want to negotitate with Izzy at a ppv rate when they can stick him on fight night and pay the going rate for guys on FN events.
The real reason this is an issue, other than my obvious Izzy fandom, is that the UFC are actually not that great at creating stars or getting the general public to care about any one of thier fighters.
It's important that I be understood clearly here.
youtube
Yes, the UFC has a massive marketing machine, and yes, it matters if they choose to use that machine to market any of their talents, the issue is that they don't do it at all.
I know that most will point to Conor McGregor, to which I will retort and remind readers of how unique the McGregor situation was for the UFC.
Conor forced their hand with his popularity in a lot of ways and the UFC has since learned how to market foreign athletes better than most other American sports, but that still doesn't mean they devote all the resources that they could.
Anyway, I don't mind if this comes off as sour grapes from an Izzy fan, but those that understand the UFC business machine will understand that the UFC could do more to ensure big names like Izzy contribute more in their later days, while still making profits for themselves and the company.

Nassourdine Imavov knocks out Israel Adesanya in the 2nd round!
Not gonna lie, that was a tad anticlimactic. Izzy tries to parry a jab while countering with his own jab and eats the follow up right hand from Imavov. Goes down, gets followed to the ground and pounded on til the fight was over.
I feel for Izzy a bit. He looked…himself. Not degraded. Not faded. Slower defensively, yeah. But he was having a bunch of success. Thought he was in trouble when Imavov landed a clean uppercut with no preamble in the 1st. Made me think Izzy couldn’t see the shots coming. But he got punished for his leaning back retreats.
Huge win for Imavov. All of a sudden, middleweight has two true blue contenders in Imavov and Chimaev.

UFC Fight Night: Adesanya vs. Imavov Recap Pt. 2
Hello fight fans !
The main event of the evening marked the long awaited return of the former Middleweight champ and top contender in the Middleweight GOAT conversation, Israel Adesanya. Israel Adesanya (-162) was 0-2 since 2023 and was looking to change the “washed” narrative with a definitive win against rising Middleweight contender Nassourdine Imavov (+136). Imavov was 3-0 since 2023 and needed a win against a big name to get his name in the title shot conversation.  Unfortunately, for the fan favorite Israel Adesanya, the night did not go his way.
The first round made it very apparent that these fighters are evenly matched. Each fighter jabbed and feinted their way to the end of the round trying to calculate their opponents rhythm and distance. The second round followed suit until the final 2 minutes. Each fighter landed counter punches and calf kicks in multiple blitzes in an out of each others range. Imavov was able to get the win with 0:30 seconds left in 2nd round via TKO by a counter left hook and unstoppable ground and pound.
Adesanya now boasts a 0-3 record since his KO win against Alex Perriera in 2023. He and the UFC now need to figure out his next move as retirement approaches his horizon even quicker after this loss.

I feel like I’m finally witnessing history. UFC history idk about real history. Well just being alive is living history in some thousands years humans will be studying us. But UFC history. I’ve been watching UFC not MMA, UFC. PFL, Bellator, all that other stuff I couldn’t care much about. I started watching UFC in 2023 September. First card I ever watched live was 293 Adesanya Vs. Strickland. I think I started to become a fan in the 280’s like Cejudo vs Sterling Pereira vs Izzy 2. But I didn’t find out about stream east until 293. I remember how loud I yelled when Sean knocked down Izzy with the cross. I guess that was history but I mean like a time line. Some people say stuff like ‘dude I remember how hard xyz fell off he seemed unstoppable’. Never got to see Tony Fergusons prime. I was born in 2008 like when the UFC was barely getting a name for itself. Rampage, wanderlei, chuck Liddell, shogun, Dan Henderson, nick Diaz, GSP. Those were the fighters of that era. When I was a kid like in 2016 the guys were Connor, Jon Jones, DC, Dustin Poirier, Robbie Lawler, Nate Diaz, Carlos Condit, Anthony Pettis. You get the whole deal. Today the guys are Alex Pereira, Jon jones still a big name and active fighter, Ilia Topuria, Islam Makhachev, Tom Aspinall, Max got even bigger after the 300 fight, Merab. I watched Volk piece up Yair at 290 and watched him get slept at 294, then again at 298. Didn’t watch Izzy rise but I’ve seen the down fall. First Sean, then Dricus, and now Nassourdine Imavov. I want 10 years from now to be able to say ‘dude this guy was the man for a while it looked like no one was going to beat him then this other guy came along and took it from him and he was never the same fighter’.
