How 9/11 Became Fan Fiction Canon
Every fictional character you can think of has experienced 9/11 in fanfiction.
A Clone Wars veteran with two lightsabers is on United Airlines Flight 93 and prevents it from crashing. Ron and Hermione get caught up in the chaos as the towers fall. Buffy the Vampire Slayer and her friends watch the attacks unfold on TV from Sunnydale. We have spent 20 years trying to process what happened on 9/11 and its fallout, and that messy process can be tracked through the countless, sad, disturbing, and sometimes very funny fanfiction left across the internet.
Many of the fanfics written in the weeks and months following the 9/11 attacks seemed to directly respond to the news as it happened, processing the tragedy in real-time through the eyes of characters they loved. In the absence of a canon episode where Daria Morgendorffer paid respects to those lost, writing fanfic about these characters also experiencing trauma helped fans cope.
One YuGiOh fanfic published on fanfiction.net in May 2002 could have been ripped exactly from what this writer experienced that Tuesday morning. “It started as a normal day,” user Gijinka Renamon wrote. Yugi and his friends were in school, where their teacher informed them of the attacks and sent everyone home from school.
“After reading people’s 9/11 fics, I decided to write my own, and put a certain character in it. And Yugi and his pals were my first choice,” the author's note reads, explaining the connection they felt to United flight 93 and the World Trade Center attacks. Given that they lived in Pennsylvania, and “it’s close to New York, I felt really sad about it.”
Stitch, a fandom journalist for Teen Vogue, told Motherboard that this reaction to 9/11 is not at all uncommon in fandom.
"Fandom has always been a place that positions nothing as 'off limits,'" she said. "Historical tragedies like the Titanic sinking and atrocities like… all of World War 2 show up regularly across the past 30 years of people creating stories and art about the characters they love. So, on some level, it makes sense that 9/11 and the following 20-year military installation in the Middle East has joined the ranks of things people in different fandoms turn into settings for their fan fiction."
Reactions depicted in a handful of Buffy the Vampire Slayer fanfics published in the weeks after the attacks ring a little truer to the characters. “Tuesday, 11th September 2001,” written by Anna K, almost echoes the lyrics from “I’ve Got a Theory,” one of the songs in the musical episode that aired in November 2001. “We have seen the apocalypse. We have prevented it. Actually, we’ve prevented quite a few. So we know what they look like,” they write, before taking a darker turn. “They look a lot like…New York today.”
Killing demons and vampires doesn’t phase the Scooby Gang, but when preventable human death is brought into the picture, it’s gut wrenching.
“What am I supposed to do…When I can’t do anything to save the world?” Buffy cries  into Spike’s chest, watching the attacks unfold on TV in a fanfic the author described as being “about feeling numb and helpless.”
In “Blood Drive,” Kirayoshi writes about Buffy and her friends saving a van full of donated blood meant for victims of the attacks from a group of thirsty vampires. One Buffy the Vampire Slayer fic even takes a blindly patriotic turn, where noted lesbian witch Tara McClay helps Xander hang an American flag from the window of the magic shop to make Anya feel better.
Experiencing 9/11 as a young teenager was overwhelming not just because of the loss of life. Almost immediately after the event itself, it was as if the entirety of American culture re-oriented itself towards an overtly jingoistic stance. As we get distance from the attacks, seeing the tone of television and movies from the early 2000s is jarring, and some have gone viral on Twitter. In the world of pop music, mainstream musicians like the Chicks, formerly known as the Dixie Chicks, were blacklisted from the radio while Toby Keith sang about putting a boot up the ass of terrorists. On the Disney Channel, a young Shia Labeouf reading a poem he supposedly wrote about the events. The poem concludes with the line, "it's awesome to be an American citizen."
In a world so completely saturated with this messaging, it is not surprising that fanfic authors started including 9/11 in their work so soon after the event. Even The West Wing had a strange, out of continuity, fanfic-esque episode where the characters reacted to 9/11. In some cases, it made sense that the characters in the stories would be close to or a part of the events themselves.
"For characters like John Watson or Captain America, the idea works to an extent," Stitch told Motherboard. "In the original Sherlock Holmes works and the 2011 BBC series, Watson had just returned from Afghanistan. For Captain America and other Marvel heroes, 9/11 was something that was addressed in-universe in The Amazing Spider-Man volume 2 #36. Technically, 9/11 is 'canon' to the Marvel universe."
In “Early Warning: Terrorism,” a fanfiction for the TV show Early Edition in which a man who mysteriously receives tomorrow's newspaper, predicting the future, avoids jingoism, but tries to precent 9/11 from happening. This fanfic remains unfinished; it’s unclear if the characters successfully prevent 9/11 in this retelling.
Largely in fanfic from the era just after 9/11, when many young authors were trying to emotionally grapple with it, the characters don't re-write or undo the events themselves. It's this emphasis on the reaction to tragedy that colors the fanfiction that features 9/11 going forward.
Although fanfiction authors have been writing about 9/11 consistently since soon after the event, whenever that fanfiction reaches outside of its intended audience, it looks bizarre.
A screenshot of a Naruto 9/11 fanfic on the Tumblr subreddit comes without any context, or even more than two lines and an author's note. It’s impossible to suss out if this falls into the category of sincere fanfic without the rest of the piece or a publication date, but modern-day commenters on the Reddit thread see it as classic Tumblr trash.

“Bin Laden/Dick Cheney, enemies to lovers, 10k words, slow burn,” one user joked in the replies, underscoring the weirdness of Naruto being in the Twin Towers by comparing it to a What If story about Cheney and Bin Laden slowly falling deeply in love.
It’s hard to tell how much of the 9/11 fanfic and fanart starting a few years after the attacks is sincere, and how much of it is ironic, and trying to make fun of the very concept of writing fanfiction about 9/11.
A 2007 anime music video (in which various clips, usually from anime, are cut together to music) that combines scenes from The Lion King with Linkin Park’s “Crawling” and clips from George Bush’s speeches immediately after the attacks feels like the perfect example of this. Even the commenters can’t seem to suss out if this person is a troll or not.
There’s no way that My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic 9/11 fanart could be serious, right? Especially if the description pays tribute to “some of the nation's most memorable buildings,” and features five of the main characters as child versions of themselves. The comments again are split between users thanking the artist for a thoughtful remembrance post, and people making their own headcanon for why Twilight Sparkle is surreptitiously absent from the scene.

There’s Phineas and Ferb fanfic that combines a 9/11 tribute concert with flashbacks to Ferb being rescued from the towers as a baby, written on the 10th anniversary of the attacks. It jumps from introspection to lines like, “‘Quiet Perry the Platypus. I’m trying to listen to these kids singing a 9/11 tribute.’”
The author's notes make it more likely that they meant for this to be a tribute piece, but it doesn’t quite make sense until watching a YouTube dramatic reading of it from 2020, fully embracing the absurdity of it all.
“For me, 9/11 is synonymous with war. It completely changed the course of my life," Dreadnought, the author of a Captain America fanfic Baghdad Waltz that sees Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes fall in love over the course of the war on terror, told Motherboard. "It’s the reason I joined the military, and I developed deep connections with people who would go on to deploy to Afghanistan and Iraq. These very much felt like my generation’s wars, perhaps because people I graduated high school with were the youngest folks eligible to serve at the time.”
Dreadnought told Motherboard that although they didn't deploy, their career has kept 9/11 and the trauma from it in their mind. After seeing that people who fantasize about Steve and Bucky getting together seemed particularly interested in reading fanfiction that related to 9/11, they decided to try their hand at it.
"I had to do something with all of that emotionally, and I’m admittedly a bit emotionally avoidant. So I learned through fic that it’s easier for me to process those feelings and the knowledge of all the awful stuff that can happen in war if I can turn it into something creative," Dreadnought said. "Give the feelings to fake people and then have those fake people give the feelings to readers!"
To Dreadnought, who is a queer man, the experience of researching and writing this was more cathartic than they first expected, especially as a way to navigate feelings about masculinity, military culture, and queer identity. But they said the research they did, which included watching footage of first responders at ground zero, was what helped them finally process the event itself.
"It was like a delayed horror, and it was more powerful than I expected it would be." Dreadnought said. "When I was eighteen, I was pretty emotionally divorced from 9/11; I just knew I wanted to do something about it. So coming back to it in my 30s while writing this fic, it was a very different experience. Even the research for this story ended up being an extraordinarily valuable exercise in cognitively and emotionally processing 9/11 and all of its second and third order effects."
Fanfiction that features 9/11 provides an outlet for people who still grapple with the trauma from that day. But Stitch warns that the dynamics of fandom and how it relates to politics can also create fiction that's less respectful and more grotesque.
"With years of distance between the stories written and the original events of 9/11, there seems to be some sort of cushion for fans who choose to use those events as a catalyst for relationships—and Iraq and Afghanistan for settings," Stitch said. "The cushion allows them room to fictionalize real world events that changed the shape of the world as we know it, but it also insulates them from having to think about what they may be putting into the world."
The tendency of turning these events into settings or backgrounds for mostly white, male characters to fall in love has the unintended effect of displacing the effects that the war on terror has had on the world over. Steve and Bucky might fall in love during the war on terror, but they would also be acting as a part of the American military in a war that has been criticized since it started. Fanfic writers in other fandoms have come under fire for using real world tragedy as settings for fic before. In the aftermath of the 2010 Haiti earthquake Supernatural fanfiction about the actors Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki going to the island to do aid became controversial within the fandom. There have also been fics where characters grapple with the death of George Floyd that is written in a way that displaces the event from the broader cultural context of race in America.
"A Captain America story where Steve Rogers is a 'regular' man who joins the US Army and 'fights for our freedom' post-9/11 is unlikely to deal with the war’s effect on locals who are subject to US military intervention," Stitch said. "It’s unlikely to sit with what Captain America has always meant and what a writer is doing by dropping Steve Rogers into a then-ongoing conflict in any capacity."
After enough time, “never forget” can even morph into “but what if it never happened?” A 19k+ word Star Wars alternate universe fanfic asks this question, wondering what would have unfolded if someone with two lightsabers was on United Flight 93. This fic, part of a larger fanfic series with its own Wikia, considers what would have happened if Earth was a military front in the Clone Wars.
In this version of events, a decorated general who served in the Clone Wars is able to take back control of Flight 93 before it crashes, landing safely and preventing even more tragedy from happening that day. In the end, all of the passengers who made harrowing last calls to their loved ones before perishing in a Pennsylvania field survive thanks to the power of the Force, and are awarded medals of honor by President Bush.
Twenty years after the attacks, it’s painful to think about what would have happened if people got to work 15 minutes later, or missed their trains that morning. There weren’t Jedi masters deployed to save people in real life, but for some of the fanfic writers working today, the world of Star Wars might feel just as removed as the world before September 11, 2001.
Fiction serves as a powerful playground for processing cultural events, especially generational trauma. The act isn't neutral though; a decade's worth of fanfiction that takes place on or around 9/11 shows how our own understanding of a traumatic event can shift with time.

Hello! I hope this ask is ok.. I just wanted to ask what inspired you to start writing and what is your favorite anime (or show/manga)? My favorite is between Naruto and Dragon Ball because they were the first I ever watched and I grew up with them :3
You’re welcome in my ask box any time bby 💖💖💖
I’m not sure if you mean like,,, the very beginning of me writing or you mean like now, cus I only started writing again recently lol. Like this year. But imma just drop the whole thing here lmao.
I first started writing stuff in middle school (which was coincidently also when I started watching anime). That was probably when I enjoyed writing the most. Especially since it was new to me. What drove me to start writing then was that I wanted to see myself with characters I liked. Deviantart was a thing at the time, but I honestly did not give a single fuck about that LMAO. Like literally I wrote just to write and then would print out copies of what I wrote and gave it to friends to read at school. I was into vocaloid before anime so my first fics were about them lol. My OC x Len Kagamine and then eventually my first love Ichigo Kurosaki from Bleach lol.
I took a couple years long break from writing but then kinda tried to start back up in high school on Quotev. I wrote a few chapters for a story I had absolutely no plans for and then stopped again lmao.
I started this side blog maybe like 2 yrs ago? But didn’t really get continuously active (if you can call it that lol) until this year. And now we’re where we are lol. I don’t really know what else to say about what inspired me to start doing stuff this year aside from me just wanting to get back to writing again.
My favorite anime of all time has got to be Bleach. It was the first real anime I got into after watching like Dragon Ball Z Kai and Dragon Ball GT (Wasn’t all that into Pokémon or Yugioh as a kid). Bleach is also where I met my first anime crush as mentioned before lol. He is still one of my three husbands to this day~. The favorite one I’ve watched more recently though is Food Wars! Shokugeki no Souma. It’s so good. Also the protagonist of that anime is another one of my three husbands lmao.

Yo, ya boi has decided to finally cave and watch Jujustu Kaisen (frankly it was between this and the New Gay Skating Anime, but I’ve been in the mood for fantasy lately so  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )
I’mma post my reactions to Episode one on here cos it seems like it’d be fun! idk if this post gets traction i’ll post my reactions to the next episode?? i’m gonna try and put my actual reaction under a cut and get the whole episode out in one go maybe.
- what the fuck, why is this boy is a BSDM dungeon - boi what did you do - wait this is the mfer people are drooling for over on TikTok, he’s like a reverse Kakashi right?  - BOY WHAT DID YOU DO why the fuck does reverse Kakashi gotta kill you?! i mean i know you aren’t gonna die cos you’re the MC and this is a shounen anime, but still - okay so the MC’s name is yuji, reverse Kakashi’s actual name is Gojo, got it - man i love it when intros are in the middle of the story and confusing as shit, it’s such a good hook when writers do this imo
(During the OP)
- oooh pretty train scene - okay i’m assuming all of these people are the MC’s buds -- IS THAT A PANDA - WHY IS THERE A PANDA I DON’T UNDERSTAND - Wait is the MC also the BBEG, that looks a LOT like the BBEG in that reflection there - this song kinda slaps, i’ll have to actually listen to it when i’m not thrown off by a LITERAL PANDA WHAT THE FUCK

- awwww yuji’s grampa is sick? - oooooh it’s New Sasuke!!! - a cursed object??? - HAH it’s gone, poor Sasuke - oof, not going home until something is done is a Customer Service Mood i think ;;;; - ARE THESE IDIOT CHILDREN USING A OUIJI BOARD IN A SCHOOL BUILDING - i’m going to cry, these kids are idiots, i love them immediately - why are the student counsel presidents always bad guys to occult clubs? First MP100 and now JJK, i feel bad for these kids - YUJI YOU WALNUT DON’T REGISTER FOR A CLUB YOU AREN’T IN  - oh wow i immediately don’t like the track and field coach, let this kid have fun and do what he wants you asshole???? -- coach: If you, a child, can beat me, a grown ass man, in a sport then i will let you be in this club you already signed up for -- yuji: oh okay that sounds fun - i worry for this kid cos he’s a whole ass stupid, but also i love his energy. he’s a Good Shounen MC. - WHAT THE FUCK IS IN THE GRASS - NEW SASUKE KILL IT - what the fuck, there are grades for this cursed item thing??? -- hopefully we learn more about that and that’s not just a one-off line. - oh god i think i know where this is going and I Don’t Like It - oh DAMN itadori just... yote the shot put. welp. - okay that didn’t go how i thought it was gonna and i’m relieved - OH SHIT is this a Naruto situation???? - I HAVE QUESTIONS WHY IS YUJI CURSED - yuji is a good kid i’m gonna cry - i love his grampa too he’s fun XD - OH MY GOD JUST IMMEDIATELY RIP MY HEART OUT  - poor yuji oh my gosh i’m too soft for this oh no - SASUKE NOT NOW OH MY GOD - oh his senpai took an interest in it??? is it the girl?? - wait these kids are dumb enough to do ouiji board shit.  - oh. oh no.
(everything that comes next is from the beginning of the Fight Scene to the end of the episode, because i steadily loose coherence while watching the show. maybe i should do audio next time i wanna do this ;;; )
- oh it a fingy - OH SHIT - GO SASUKE GO GO GO - yuji isn’t gonna stay put, he’s the MC - YESSSSS GET THEM YUJI - NO NEW SASUKE, I ACTUALLY LIKE YOU  - that monster went YEET - OH NONONONONONO - GOD DAMMIT YUJI - holy shit he tore that bitch clean in half - aaaaand now he looks like a Bleach antagonist -- it looks cool tho, ngl - holy SHIT  - WOAH WHAT THE FUCK - excuse me what was that about women and children - i mean i knew something was gonna happen, but what in the YuGiOh is this possession bullshit -- -oh my god them talking to each other out loud and Yuji being like ‘no no, no pillaging for you my dude, you chill the fuck out’ and the curse guy being like ‘wHAT THE FUCK’ is hilarious -aaaand now Yuji and New Sasuke are gonna have to fight. Swell.
Overall, this seems like it’s going to be a really fun, exciting show! It’s got a good first episode. I’m def gonna keep watching it, and maybe one day learn New Sasuke’s name.
It’s up in the air for me whether this is gonna be a consistent thing cos this was pretty spur of the moment, but this was still pretty fun! i enjoyed it, anyway. i guess lmk if you want me to keep posting reactions???
In the meantime: have a good day (or night) bluebelles! Bye~

1. best anime you’ve watched: Fullmetal Alchemist, really love it. But at the moment, Tower of God, I’m curious as to see if they miss anything else out of it.
2. worst anime you’ve watched: There’s not really been an anime that I’ve watched that I actually hate, I watched a few episodes of Naruto and decided it wasn’t for me, so maybe that
8. first anime you’ve ever watched: Well crap, I first started watching anime as a little kid and I’m not really sure which one I watched first: Pokémon or Yugioh, but I’ve always stuck with Yugioh

Headcanons pt.4
Middle school and early high school
I know American class but also Japanese class schedules. I don’t know if I want either or a hybrid.
Based off this post (If i can find it)
Naruto-band
Shikamaru has a knack for playing the drums, but he's never serious about it. He plays the drums because the systematic rhythm helps him think of strategies for shoji.
Has been asked multiple times to join the jazz band in Spring. He refuses everytime because it cuts his time in shoji, but once he gets his own cubie in the band hall he sets up his shoji board and plays it when he has free time.
Hinata has played the violin but hates the way her fingers hurt after being forced to play for long hours.
So she seeks asylum in the band hall, and has secretly taken lessons how to play the saxophone. It's her favorite of all the wind instruments.
She has been asked to join the spring jazz band, despite not being an actual member. She easily took the first chair when they were evaluating their skills.
Choji has been following a senior that's been teaching him the guitar, he's in the brass section playing the tuba. Has been asked to replace the senior when he gets older and wants to.
Naruto is in the brass section with Kiba but only Kiba is the trumpet player. Naruto is a trombone player and tells dad jokes. He didn’t fit the mold of a trumpet player but he still loves it regardless.
But his energy is definitely on par, if not greater than the rest. He will always cheer up everyone around him and is a part of the cheerleading squad.
Hates that there aren't anyone other guys. He just wants to flip off someone's shoulders. Damnit!
He's flipped off Sasuke's and Shikamaru's shoulders before. In Sasuke's case, it was during elementary/primary. They were on the playground and this was Naruto’s second ever attempt to land a backflip. They couldn’t do it because the teacher caught them when a group started forming and they started betting their snacks from lunch to see if Naruto failed or not.
They continued their promise after school and Naruto broke his arm, but he did do it right after. He ate like a King the next day. It was great for him.
The first time Naruto did it was completely by accident and because he was so excited that he got a trampoline.
He’s never taken gymnasium classes before and has not seen a backflip before. But he somehow did it. It still shocks his parent’s to this day. Sasuke and him are neighbors and he came over to see what Naruto was so happy about.
Sasuke came just in time to see him do it. It was the greatest moment of his life because then Naruto tried to do it again and fell flat on his face.
In shikamaru’s case it was during middle school and they were next to the pool. They were at Sasuke’s house for the day because he had a cool deck and pool.
Naruto wanted to jump off his shoulders into the pool. Shikamaru agreed because he didn’t think Naruto could actually do it. He realized his mistake when Naruto beamed in total confidence and Sasuke moved away from the pair.
Naruto didn’t do his back flip because Shikamaru moved the second Naruto decided to jump, without warning.
Needless to say, Shikamaru didn’t support his legs enough and Naruto accidently kicked him in the chin. Naruto ended up on the pool, back first, and Shikamaru fell on his ass.
Naruto swims up to the edge of the pool and looks at Sasuke, trying so hard not to laugh.
Naruto: Did I do it?!
Sasuke, trying to reclaim his composer: No, not at all.
Shikamaru, on the ground rubbing his chin: How did you even hit me!?
Naruto: Again!
Shikamaru: No!
Sasuke, running inside to get a camera or phone to record it: Yes!
Naruto is sometimes very confused as to why he is going to a house, when he has an apartment and his milk is about to expire! Also, his stash of untouched ramen!
Kushina: Naruto, sweetie. Where are you going?
Naruto: My apartment!
Minato: Naruto, we have a house.
Naruto: What’s that? Is it edible?
Kushina: Sometimes. During winter.
Naruto: Why winter?
Kushina: There are houses made of cookies.
Naruto: Really?!
Kushina, nodding along: Yup!
Anyway after High school they sometimes played together. Naruto had to buy a new entire trumpet because he rented from the school. Hinata bought her saxophone and has kept it under maintenance.
Shikamaru’s parents bought him his drum set and he learned how to play on his own. Choji does keep up with his guitar lessons but he did save up alot to get his electric guitar and a bass.
Card games
Hinata, Sasuke, and Shikamaru cannot play competitive and strategic card/board games. Scrabble, poker, 21, War, Bullshit is off the list. A Lot of decks, mostly up to 3 at a time and they are very distinguished between all of them.
Sakura refuses to play but does rude commentary to any group she is overseeing. Usually magic, because of Sasuke.
Choji doesn’t play anything but he does place bets on who would win with his snacks.
Magic the gathering.
Sasuke, Itachi played. Black Commander Deck
Sai, again his older brother. Green and Black Commander Deck.
Tenten; She found it and didn’t want something that Lee and Neji enjoy. Standard White and Blue Deck.
Yu-gi-oh.
Hinata; only because Neji played. Silent Magician Deck
Neji; because Lee played. He didn’t want to seem stupid. Hero elemental deck
Lee, he just likes the anime. But does have Yusei’s deck
Ino, she likes the pictures on Toon town and they let her do whatever but to some extent.
Both.
Kiba; Rarely, Magic first. Green and Red Commander. Gear deck
Naruto; Rarely, yugioh first Odd-eyes deck and Black and White Standard Deck.
Kiba, dissing on Yugioh.
Naruto: Shut up, your mother buys you mega blocks instead of legos.
Hinata and Sasuke are both petty about each other’s card games. They each have respective sleeves and taunt each other, constantly.
Neji and Lee look at Tenten on the magic side and hate that she betrayed them. She’s just glad that they don't harp on her in her card game.
Pokemon.
Shikamaru, because no one knows how to fucking play.
Shino only collects the cards.
Shino showing Shikamaru his deck.
Hinata: Oh, are you playing?
Shino: You can play it?
Shikamaru has tried to teach Shino. Shino doesn’t sleeve his cards and when they take damage, he puts some non wet, non greasy food on his card.
Once the pokemon dies, Shino eats the snack. There are crumbs everywhere and Shikamaru’s pet peeve is being messy. Shikamaru appreciates Hinata’s and Sasuke’s sleeves.
Shows
Ino loves Reality TV and other things. But hates the Kardasians. Loves Rupaul drag race.
Sai is often encouraged by Ino to watch anime around her and he also finds anime that she thinks he hasn’t seen.
Sai has brought up Keeping up with the Kardasians and it was a mistake, he thought she would like it.
Ino: The Kardaisians are garbage and Kyle Jenner is a fake as hoe!
Sakura, from another room, hearing Ino rant: Did someone bring up the Kardasians?
Sai: Yeah.
Ino: Never do that again dear.
Sai: Got it sweetheart.
Ino has never actually called any other of her partners by a pet name but she does with Sai and they act like a married couple sometimes. They never talked about it. I mean they have shared stuff about each other that no one else knows. Coming out to each other, learning together because they both feel safe and comfortable with each other. Trust each other a lot.
Elementary bus crew.
Morning
Konoha 12 except Hinata
Naruto was so used to being independent that he has left his house on his own for school. It has freaked his parents more than once but they just watch over him as he goes to school.
Naruto always spots a red haired kid on the opposite of his bus stop with two older people that he holds their hands. Naruto always waves at him and waits until the day he waves back.
Gaara is very affected by his past life, like he was carving the kanji for love when his mom walked in because Temari tried to stop it but couldn’t take the blade away from him. She got slashed on her arm as a result.
Karura walks in and gasps softly.
Karura: Gaara sweetie.
Gaara: Mama, you're alive?
Karura: Of course. Please put the knife down.
Gaara: Knife?
Gaara completes carving in perfect kanji and stops once he completes it. Then the pain registrator for him
Choji is allergic to mustard, he found out in elementary and by accident. Shikamaru went to the teacher and Hinata stayed with Choji because he was rubbing his face and making his hives worse.
Afternoon
Rest of the Konoha 12 except (Hinata Neji and Shikamaru) No Sai yet.
Middle school. Bus Crew
Morning
Konoha 12 except Hinata, Ino, and Sakura
Afternoon
Konoha 12 Except Hinata, Tenten, Neji and Sasuke
High school bus crew.
Morning
Hinata was too scared to do it on her own in elementary, she tried in middle school and failed, but she succeeded in high school. She has to wake up an extra hour and walk to her stop but she doesn’t after freshman year. She got used to it
Afternoon
Everyone unless they have clubs, even then there is an after after school bus.
Hinata and Neji are on the richer side of town and everyone in middle school often joked about how they are on the west side while everyone else is on the east side.
They all meet on sports day. The other schools were pitted against each other east versus west.
Sakura, Sasuke, and Naruto were in a group together and were mocking Neji from a distance.
Naruto: Ew, is that a West sider?!
Sakura: Is that a boy or girl?
Naruto: It doesn’t matter! It’s a west sider!
Hinata from behind them, joins in.
Hinata: Ew a west sider.
Naruto, turning around: You got that r-
Hinata a carbon copy of the guy they were mocking.
Naruto: AH!!! They got us from behind!
Hinata blushes: Naruto-kun
Naruto: Oh, it’s just you Hinata.
They don’t know each other at this point, Sasuke and Sakura look bamboozled at their interaction.
Hinata is going to therapy for this because her parents are worried and she just wants a break from the whole past life stuff.
Hinata sighs to herself: Not again
Hinata walks off towards where Neji is and leaves Naruto in her wake.
Naruto’s motto: We are here to cause some ruckus, then DIP!!!

what do you like about naruto so much? what do you think is the reason that make naruto so huge? i am curious. actually asking, not sarcasm
It's the nostalgia, really. People around my age watched Naruto when we were in the middle school/high school etc. and it's the first anime most people has ever watched (excluding the ones we've watched as a child such as Pokemon, Yugioh, Digimon etc) so it evokes a nostalgia for adolescence years? Also since it's widely known & there are many plot holes and moments where the author fucked up really bad, it's fun to turn it into a meme lmao
edit: also a lot of us projected on naruto or sasuke as angsty kids but that's whole another topic anckajfnsjz

What’s your story behind all the things that you like? What I mean is how were you introduced to all the things you find enjoyment out of (video games, anime fanfics etc). How’d you find quote on quote “geek culture” or how did it find you?
The majority of what I enjoy was via introduction by my older sister, or a friend. (This includes music. Nova is always exposing me to new stuff and giving me culture) Or. The old fashioned way, TV. Lol I survived off morning cartoons and cereal. In short, sister, friends, cartoons, fanfics, and CONVENTIONS.
My older sister had played KH1 up to the Deep jungle and then she quit. It was maybe 2004 at the time. But I remembered it well enough, that when my friend showed me KH2 lent his copy that I’m like. Ah hell yeah, I kinda remember this? (KH2 was the first I played, never even saw anything after Deep Jungle until I played KH1 later. But honestly KH2 pretty much gives you a recap, CoM exempt so it was fine. Sora didnt remember, so.. we were on the same page. Lol)
Same thing with Zelda. My first exposure was Majora’s mask, watching my sister play. (She wouldn’t let me play.Older sibling complex.) My first game was Twilight Princess, love that game, it’s beautiful and amazing. Dont @ me lol
Miraculous Ladybug was on Netflix, and I had seen @philsterman01 ’s comic dubs so I was like, yeah, I can finally watch it. (It wasnt what i expected AT ALL, but I still frickin love that cornball of a show. It’s ridiculous and cute.)
Sailor Moon was a huge part of my life, and I still adore it, my First OC was based off that and Tokyo Mew Mew.
Toonami was a huge thing way back when. Yu Yu Hakusho, Cyborg 009, Dragonball/DBZ, a liiiiittle Naruto. There was Fox Kids with Digimon, Shaman King, Winx Club, KidsWB had Yugioh, Pokemon, Cardcaptors, etc. (Adult swim had Inuyasha, Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo and Scry-ed)
A lot of what I enjoyed actually starts at the library. I would ride my bike to the library and check out the limit of Manga and DvDs, I’d read them all and return them the next week and do it all over again… the internet was still foreign to me. Lol
My library didn’t really carry the “POPULAR” manga series, I got stuff like Iron Wok Jan, Skip Beat!, CLAMP stuff (to this day I still don’t understand Clover), Maison Ikkoku, Angelic Layer, but they still had like Fruits Basket, Bleach, Death Note, Chrono Crusade, Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles, etc. Anime was Rurouni Kenshin, X (1999), Tenchi Universe, Ranma ½, Vampire Hunter D, a lot of arbitrary anime I can’t remember but they were weeeeird.
When I was 13 I got a GaiaOnline account, and a FFNet, where I actually met my best friend and current roommate. (We bonded over our love for Hiei.) Lots of new stuff was introduced there.
A coworker of my Mom’s from a past job lended me Trigun, Raxephon, Fullmetal Panic, Generator Gawl, Arc the Lad, Kiddy Grade, Noir.
My mental library is pretty small all things considered. And I’m definitely more of a Casual Geek. I enjoy things in passing.
I think Kingdom Hearts is the thing I’ve held onto the longest, besides Yu Yu Hakusho and Cardcaptor Sakura. But I definitely love it the most.
And Miraculous Ladybug is sticking with me pretty strongly atm too. (But we’ll see. It’s still young)
I missed out on an lot of stuff in high school because I decided to ignore anime and instead get obsessed with Japanese and Korean Pop stars, of which I still need to get rid of my posters 💦💦💦 (they’re just… sitting in the closet lmao) and I was like… a YouTube nut. (I was absorbed into stuff like NigaHiga, Smosh, Mystery Guitar Man, Tobuscus, SMPfilms, Chonny, Bubsbeauty, Shimmycocopuffs, Equals3, stuff like that. Also the time I drew the LEAST and my art stagnated BAD)
I’m still playing catch up, but I’m more interested in creating, working on my OCs, animation/storyboards. Etc. It’s hard to get myself into new stuff cause I know I’ll be sucked in. *stares at Fire Emblem from a safe distance*
It’s also only in the last year or so, (2?) That I’ve actively been a part of a fan community, so it’s still a territory I’m treading lightly. And I’ve kept it to just the KH and ML fandoms. (And maaaaybe the MLP fandom but you didn’t hear that from me. *sweats*)
Long answer is long.
But it’s interesting to think back. Because everything is so VASTLY different now.

BOOMERANG: The Neglectful DEATH & Re:BIRTH app (@RebelTaxi) What Happened?
You know with Boomerang kind sucking right now, I have some ideas to try to improve it, First by changing the schedule to have more of mix of classic Cartoon Network programming being played during the day, with classic shows from 70s to 2000s (including a random movie being played at noon, two on the weekends) and they can still have commercials to pay the advertisers, the flash games from the past returning on their website (with additional comments section), and have the following programming blocks:
Monday through Thursday from 6pmE/7pmC to 1amE/2amC Cartoon Network Prime Time: Where all the cartoon network shows from the original channel plays mostly while Adult Swim is on their own channel
Fridays from 6pmE/7pmC to 2amE/3amC Cartoon Classic Fridays:  Where every friday they do usually do marathons of any of the cartoons that was played on the channel before (from the classic ones to the ones people barely remembers to the ones that were exports from Kids WB to even What-A-Cartoon Shorts & failed pilots from the Big Pick) and they would have special contests with the older viewers watching online or through the phone
Saturdays from 7pmE/8pmC to 2amE/3amC Toonami on boomerang: Where, with its the classic toonami look and feel of it (from the classic font and blue lighting from when TOM 2.0 was around), plays classic Toonami programming from the original block's run [including the Dragon Ball series, the Gundam series, the Sailor Moon series, the Transformers series (at least Beast Wars, Beast Machines, and the Unicorn Trilogy), series from DC comics, Yu Yu Hakusho, Big-O, IGPX, Naruto, One Piece (Funimation Dub of course), and even some of the uncut dubs of Yugioh & Shaman King] and at the final Saturday of two month they play an anime movie instead of the normal lineup (like the movies based off the ones in their lineup, Akira, Hellboy, and the films that were made by Hayao Miyazaki)
Sundays at 6pmE/7pmC and again after 2 hours of Cartoon Network Prime Time Boomerang's Cartoon Theater: Where they play old movies every week that have been played on Cartoon Network's Cartoon Theater & Flicks with some new ones, including the Fearless Four, the Super Mario Bros movie, and of course all of the recent animated Direct-to-DVD Warner Bros movies that hasn't been shown on Cartoon Network yet, also one of the two movies for Sunday that play at noon is the movie that played on Cartoon Theater last week
Everynight from after the block of the night is done to 6amE/7amC Good Ol' Boomerang: where they play classic old cartoons from the 50s to the 80s from Hannah-Barbera to Warner Brothers to MGM
do you think that would be good?

when the Future Colours ED dropped.... you just had to be there man...
As a 23 year old, there's plenty of stuff I missed out on when it came to fandoms, mostly because of my lack of interest in most of the popular anime at the time, but I was always on the periphery and got to know *some* of what went down. For yugioh 5ds though? Front and centre man. Front and centre. And maybe that's why I find it so bittersweet just to even think about 5ds because it takes me to such a specific moment in time that I'll never get back.
Like, as 5-6 year olds my cohort just about caught onto the original Yugioh cycle, and of course we all hated GX as the cultured 8 year olds we were (I love it guys, I always did) but 5ds was different. It came out at the time my year was at the older end of the school, and it grabbed me immediately because of how serious it felt, which is the one thing at that age that I disliked about GX. All of a sudden we all brought out our old decks, dark magician, Blue Eyes, E hero beatdown and we were all influencing each other to absolutely get on these hot new cards because synchros are COOL. The permanent rainy British weather didn't stop us from dueling with our paper mats and unsleeved cards, and we had to go behind the staff room to make dodgy trades lest our cards get confiscated.
And then CITV *really* hit the Dark Signers arc and didn't air new episodes for years. Just to put it in perspective, I was in Year 5 when 5ds started airing here. Season 3 started airing in 2012, when I was 2 years removed from primary school. What's a girl to do? Go online of course! Most of us were already sharing around our favourite websites to watch naruto because the UK edits were trash tier, and of course, 5ds was there too. And then the 4kids forums had whole threads dedicated to the merits of the different fansubbers.
Once I left primary school and had nobody to talk to about yugioh except my little brother, 5ds fanfiction became my bread and butter, and I can't tell you how funny it is when I remember the trend of "Yusei and Aki have a child but the other is raising them alone/doesn't know about her". But I was invested! And God, when the Future Colours ED dropped, it gave the writers material for DAYS.
Now, I'm older, it's been over 11 years since 5ds ended, and I especially consider the ending to be even more poignant because of where I am in life, I'm on the cusp of true adulthood, finding jobs and settling down and whatnot. Good friends of mine that I've known since I was 4, and from 4 years ago, are getting married or having kids. I have a wonderful group of friends, who we all met during a sports event and made a gc, and since meeting them, I feel like I understand better than ever the power of bonds 5ds tried to show. It's such a valuable thing! It's because of those guys that I even bothered to write my first fanfiction, which was based entirely off of a real event that happened.
When I think of the hilarity we've had over the past 4 ish years of knowing each other, and the deep conversations as well as the heart breaking ones, it's so super silly, but it makes me think of Team 5ds and their dynamic. And just like how they went their separate ways, we're all kinda splintering off too. It really makes me sad, but, I'm so grateful for being able to experience this wonderful companionship in the first place. And the thing is: We're never really gonna get rid of each other completely, because the love of sport that united us in the first always brings us back to each other, even if it's just for a few weeks over the course of a tournament.
So, hopefully, when I write more 5ds fanfic, I just want it to be known that it's dedicated to my real Team 5ds, and I'm so lucky that I got to have an anime plot unfold in my real life, which is what that 8 year old girl dreamed of back then! And here I am not even realising that I was living her dream.
BTW, I'll just drop the link to the one thing I have written for this silly funny beautiful crew, who remind me so much of my own silly funny beautiful crew. Maybe in another 11 years I can look back on these fics and remember the pure joyful time I had with them. https://archiveofourown.org/works/35254714
Of course, one thing you gotta know though is that they can NEVER know its me because if they found out how sappy I got I'll never hear the end of it 🤣

My Memories of Watching Berserk Before Watching Berserk
This ain’t a traumatic memory to me tbh out of all the the things life has burdened me with, I find this to be endearing in its own way.
So when I was 7 - 8 years old, I was on youtube. Just having fun on the family computer. I used to watch a lot of shit from family guy funny moments, to dumb skits, to meme songs (the numa numa song was huge back then)
I was looking around YouTube and in the sidebar I remember seeing a video titled “most disturbing anime scene ever” and me—being a child—was like “damn I gotta see this. Aint no way it’s that bad”
It was the Eclipse scene with Casca, Guts, and Femto (real ones know) from the 90s berserk anime. Now, I wasn’t really disturbed by the sexual stuff because I hardly knew what was going on. But I was like “goddamn!!!!!!!!!! That’s insane” when Gut’s cut off his own arm. That shit was gnarly. I could understand that, not really the casca stuff.
I remember scrolling down to the comments and reading a comment along the lines of “pfft men always mad when they see they girl having a better time with another man” or whatever.
I got weirded out by that comment, I think because I knew shit before I knew shit (this ain’t some shit I’ll dive into, it not something I’m speaking on) if that makes sense.
Honestly, Gremlins scared me way more as a kid more than the Eclipse scene like I had real ass night terrors and panic attacks about gremlins but I always looked at the Eclipse as like this whacky gnarly as fuck anime scene that was like no shit I had ever seen.
I never had one nightmare over it, surprisingly.
But yeah like when I watched berserk as an grown woman, I kinda was like “damn bitch you really seen this as a kid and didn’t know it” because the anime wasn’t listed in the description. I do remember wanting to know where it was from.
I think this is why fictional shit doesn’t get to me at all because tbh this was my first real exposure to anime because I wasn’t allowed to watch Naruto or Pokémon or Yugioh
It’s also hilarious because my parents tried super hard to protect me from shit deemed “demonic” and I still ended up seeing the Eclipse scene from Berserk in my formative years.
I love my folks dearly but it seems like their attempts to keep me away from “demonic” shit always just lead to me finding actual harmful shit by accident.
Do I love berserk? Yeah of fucking course.
Now I’m not one for horror movies (most them gross me out) and I don’t like most disturbing content but I dunno that shit just never phased me as a kid. I think because my brain knew it was a cartoon.
Family Guy and Robot Chicken disturbed and disgusted me more as a kid than the Eclipse scene from berserk. if I’m being real.
I had more nightmares over Robot Chicken and Nightmare Before Christmas than I did Berserk’s eclipse scene. I never once remember being even scared of that scene after I saw it. That’s insane to me

Tag game! Let's get to know our Animanga Fandom mutuals/followers better? Tagged by @spectralreplica
01. How did you find out about anime? Just happened upon it watching TV, mostly on WB Kids I think? My first anime was Sailor Moon, which I watched religiously and adored, but didn't really know anime was a separate media from western cartoons. This trend followed for the dubs of Pokemon, Cardcaptors, Digimon and Yugioh. When I was a little bit older I became aware that these were all the same category, and I sought out time slots that offered anime on YTV, and also watched Inuyasha, Case Closed (Detective Conan), .hack//SIGN, FMA, Eureka Seven, Gundam Seed, Mew Mew Power (Tokyo Mew Mew) and more things that cropped up with these but those ones I remember best from that time. The first anime I sought out online to watch subbed was Bleach in highschool, after a friend showed me the old bleachportal site for torrenting or downloading the new episodes, after which I watched a lot more AND became aware of manga available online, and dove into reading Fairy Tail, Naruto, One Piece, Elfen Lied, Black Cat, and from there I was trapped in the addictions.
02. What’s your favorite anime? This is a hard question just because I have a hard time singling out favourites for anything. Fullmetal Alchemist is my favourite manga and I do quite love both animes, the first for nostalgia of when I was introduced to it, some of the episodes, the OPs/EDs, and I really loved seeing Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood bring characters I adored in the manga, like Ling Yao get their moment to shine in animated form. Plus the way the manga and the new anime ended almost together was so great of a build, it was fantastic reading and watching alongside, being hype to see something you just read be animated mere weeks later near the end. I also adore Baccano! as a shorter series, and one I hadn't expected to like but ended up loving when my uni anime club watched it. It's zany and told in a fun format, and not that long which makes it a fun rewatch. Eureka Seven and Soul Eater are old faves that no longer hold the title but have a special place for me as the first two series I cosplayed from, with Anemone and Black Star respectively. Movie wise, Promare. Promare is easily my favourite anime movie, and I still adore thinking up aus and content for it, as well as seeking out the fandom. It's the art, the characters, the dynamic! Special shout out as well to Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle, which I come back to often as comfort movies, and Belle which I saw recently and enjoyed! Honourable mentions: Steins;Gate, Tiger & Bunny, .hack//SIGN, Cowboy Bebop 03. Do you have a favorite J-music/K-pop group/singer? So I don't really listen to a lot of bands/singers specifically, I find songs and cling to them and add them to my playlists forever. That means most of the J-music I have is indeed the stereotypical music from openings and endings in animes. I will say the ones I have multiple songs from and actually sought out other tracks from not in animes are UVERworld and yui. The second Bleach Opening with UVERworld got me good, okay. I can sing that shit acapella, and again from yui I needed to hear the full track after seeing the goregous FMA brotherhood opening.
04. When is your bday? And how old are you? June 8th, 30 right now 05. Currently, what is your favorite fandom anime? Given the huge rundown I gave before I'm going to limit this to newer things I'm checking out, not necessarily all time faves. I enjoyed Toilet-bound Hanako-kun's first season a lot and am excited for a second! My sister keeps trying to get me to read the manga, and it is really pretty so I might. I'm checking out Case Study of Vanitas because I used to really love the Pandora Hearts manga, but I'm considering switching to reading over watching. Akudama Drive was fun, I checked it out since it was the DR game writer. Really out of left field since it's not my usual genre, but I just watched Zombieland Saga and I loved it, it was hilarious. Need some more humour based series now and then, not everything's gotta be heavy hahaha. Jujutsu Kaisen's fun, reminds me a lot of my Bleach phase. None of these unseat my other faves, and I have a lot of videogame fandoms I am more heavily into over them right now (Danganronpa, Zero Escape, Umineko, AITSF, Steins;Gate (again)) but I'm still checking out lots of new animes as they come, and more genres than before since my sister's back into it and prefers some other stuff and wants to chat about it. 06. Despite the ups and downs of Tumblr, what motivates you to stay here today and do your best? The working tag system? The chronological order timeline? The fact that I can type more in a single post instead of having to make long threads? The fact that I've been here over a decade and you'd have to give me an official eviction to get off? Unpopular opinion maybe, but tumblr is one of the better social media ish sites for art displaying and sharing, I came here from deviantart, I hate instagram, I am on twitter but mostly because you kind of have to be in this day and age. Tumblr is probably the only site like this I like, I used to be a fan forum kid, but those are fewer and far between, and I've outgrown gaiaonline for sure. It's just a good site build here. 07. Finally create it yourself in this picrew: Link Mmmmm not the best time I've had in a picrew but I sort of managed to get it close. Really always trouble that no streak options go all the way to the root and that there's only ever two glasses shapes that aren't shades.
