Haruno Ume Design
Hello! It's my Naruto OC, a character I created out of love for my favorite characters. Ume is my pride and joy and I'm excited to share her with you.
I'm a huge fan of Naruto and have been since I was a kid. I've watched every episode, read all the manga! So I'm truly passionate about this series and it's been a huge part of my life for many years.
A little bit information about Ume:
NAME: Ume Haruno
AGE: Part I: 16-17
DATE OF BIRTHDAY: April 29
ZODIAC SIGN: Taurus
HEIGHT: 163 cm
FAVORITE FOODS: Mochi with ice cream, peaches
FAVORITE COLOR: Red
FAVORITE WORD: "love" (愛する, Aisuru)
FAVORITE TIME OF THE SEASON: Spring
HOBBIES: Reading, training, floriography
I managed to find a little bit of my time to finish this (God only knows how many times I already changed her design) redesign of Ume, but it's totally worth it because each time she gets closer to perfection and I love her more and more. 🥰
At first I planned to change just her clothes, so they would portray her personality even better, but when I sat to work on her, I realized that her hair made no sense, or maybe that is just my crazy love for symmetry? Anyway, I changed her hairstyle. Now it has bangs on both sides, and she looks more spiky, but somehow it suits her pretty well and emphasizes her teen fighty spirit.
I stayed with her original color scheme, but this time made red a little bit lighter, so it would better compliment her soft colors. Another major change that I did is I put her bandana on the “right” place, on her forehead. Ume would definitely proudly wear it for everyone to see. Also, I changed her dress to something more Japanese traditional looking clothes. I find this piece more practical because, technically, she can take off any part, and I believe Ume would love that very much! Especially when she needs a lot of freedom in her clothes, so she prefers light materials that don't make much noise, and yet I can't let her go without my favorite type of sleeves that are actually not so practical, yet they suit her perfectly. Last thing that I did was change her shoes to something more “standart” and gave protection to her knees and elbow joints so they would be always warm and protected from her own movements.
The next thing I plan to do is finish her redesign of Shippuden. I have already begun working on it like a hundred years ago. I'm really excited to see the finished design, and I hope you will be too. Good luck! Have a wonderful day, may it be filled with smiles and laughter. :^)

My Thoughts on Naruto EP 1; and Naruto Shippuden EP 162, 163, 168, 174, 175
I had not seen any of Naruto up until this point, and it was definitely one of the better series we’ve had the pleasure of watching. The episodes featured many of the areas of concern similar to other animes we’ve been assigned; the destruction of the hidden village similar to the atomic bomb devastation depicted in Barefoot Gen, the powered society of ninjas similar to the village in Shin Sekai Yori, moral gray area in conflicting ideologies to bring about peace evident in Eden of the East, and the consequences of war similar to Mobile Suit Gundam. The show features a sort of coming of age tale of a ninja with a troubled childhood, who despite being ostracized and doubted, never gave up and turned into a celebrated hero. The assigned episodes heavily focused on the realistic possibility of achieving peace in a conflicted world, and the determination to overcome pain to become an inspiration to others.
The main conflict presented in the episodes is between Pain(Nagato), whose war-torn past leads him to want to gain control of immense power and distribute it equally to all villages so that war will no longer be necessary, and the protagonist Naruto. Both were disciples of the same master, and the two engage in a series of powerful battles, but ultimately settle their conflict through a battle of ideology. Nagato argues that it is impossible for the world to achieve true peace, that one who does not know pain cannot understand true peace, and that because of the hypocrisy of the greater nations and their control over the majority of the power, the world is cursed to never ending war. Naruto counters by offering the teachings of their master, who encouraged them to save their land, and proves to Nagato that despite all the pain Naruto has experienced, along with the hurt Nagato has caused, must find a way to end hate. Naruto’s determination and dedication to his master allows him to have faith in himself, and a blossom of hope that never wilts in the face of adversity. Although true peace may be difficult to achieve, he will do everything he can to make it a reality.
In the first episode of Naruto, the main character is shown to be ostracized by others for his misbehaving nature and lack of parental figures. The dynamic shown between the majority of the instructors and Naruto reflect a Wild Child sort of outlook on his potential to unleash a great and dangerous power. Despite this, some provide support and encouragement that he is capable of controlling his power and becoming a ninja. Naruto believes in their words and in himself, so he overcomes the doubt through hard work, strenuous training, and a never-give-up mentality that allows him to become one of the most powerful ninjas. Even after fighting many battles, and losing loved ones to conflict, he finds it within himself to not kill his mortal enemy. This act of peace inspires Nagato to sacrifice himself in order to rewrite his wrongdoings. Naruto goes from being ostracized and shunned by his own village, to becoming its savior and hero. He exemplifies that a strong and determined spirit can accomplish anything.

Naruto ep 1 | Naruto Shippuden (ep 162, 163, 168, 174, 175)
★★★★★
I did start Naruto a while ago but I never got far. I was told these episodes were more impactful having had the context of the rest of the show, so it kind of sucks I had to skip around. I always find these concepts of villains who aren't entirely evil so interesting. Pain wanted peace, and that's not a bad thing. Many people can agree that they also want peace. The issue with pain though is his methods of obtaining peace. He believes pain is necessary to fully understand peace (which I don't necessarily disagree with), so he forces everyone to go through pain (this I do disagree with). I do think you're not going to understand peace if you haven't gone through pain, because how do you measure what peace is if you've technically always lived in peace. If you've always lived in peace, are you aware that you've been living in peace? But this doesn't justify destroying a village so that everyone can experience pain. Peace could've been reached without traumatizing innocent people. It kind of reminds me of Thanos, who wanted to ultimately fix the world's issues. His motives were right, but his methods of reaching that end goal of prosperity weren't. If you think about it though, is their a way to reach peace and prosperity while also ensuring no one has to suffer to reach that goal?

Naruto (ep. 1), Naruto Shippūden (eps. 162, 163, 168, 174, 175)
Not gonna lie, the Naruto series has always been my favorite! And the only long anime that I have ever watched. It sucks that those who haven’t been able to finish Naruto Shippuden before this class had now received spoilers. The pain arc has the most impact on the leaf village. From the first episode, you see that Naruto, an innocent young child, has the center of hatred from the villagers. This was a very painful experience that Naruto had to grow in but his reaction to pain and hatred is what makes him different from Nagato.
Nagato tells Lady Tsunade that pain is necessary to find true peace and that he will the pain by destroying the villages. He states that people use war as an excuse of killing others for the purpose of seeking peace. However, all that brought was pain and hatred! That this cycle of hatred will continue to bring violence and peace will be impossible to achieve. His plan to bring peace is by infusing all jinchurikis to make one single powerful jinchurki that will bring “Pain” (which is killing a lot of people) for temporary peace until villages continue the cycle of hatred.
Ironically, young Nagato's hope of finding a way to find peace had influenced Jiraiya’s book that the fourth hokage named Naruto. However, the pain brought by war destroyed that hope of finding peace and twisted the definition of peace because he was consumed by that hatred. When Naruto found Nagato he decided that he decide not to kill Nagato for revenge because he believe he will believe that he can find peace another way. Nagato saw that Naruto had not let pain and hatred change his hope of peace and decide to rely on him to find peace like their master, Jiraiya.
From day one, Naruto has always been a target of hatred and he didn’t let him be consumed by hatred or lose hope. He could’ve easily turned his back on the leaf village when the sand village attaches during in chunin exam but he made it his responsibility to stop the other Jinchuriki from saving the village. He had hoped that he was able to grow and change the heart of the villagers which made them recognize him as part of the village and not the nine-tail fox that once attack their village. Naruto’s will, hope, and action slowly made the leaf villagers hope to view him as a monster but as a hero to the village. Naruto found it shocking that villagers rally for his arrival with hope and love and not with hatred because they used to throw rocks and insults at him as a group. It was nice that the adults who supported him acknowledged that Naruto suffered so much for this recognition and was crying for him!

I’ve started reading the maga recently, so it’s unfortunate that I got spoiled for the Shippuden parts, but it can’t be helped. I have mixed feelings about the show. While the writing is good, I find the power system to be somewhat flawed.
Starting with Naruto episode 1, I was immediately drawn in by the characters and the world-building. The show does an excellent job of setting up the premise of a young ninja named Naruto Uzumaki, who dreams of becoming Hokage (leader) of his village. The first episode introduces us to Naruto's character, his backstory, and the people in his life. The episode sets the stage for the entire series, and I was excited to see where the story would go.
Moving on to Naruto Shippuden episodes 162, 163, 168, 174, and 175, I have mixed feelings about the direction of the show. The writing is still strong, with well-developed characters, but the power system begins to feel repetitive and overpowered. The magic system is so soft that people just use crazy powers out of nowhere. Naruto and his allies face increasingly powerful enemies, but they always manage to come out on top thanks to the power of talk-no-jutsu and a new ability that comes out of nowhere.
For example, in episode 162, Naruto and his friends are fighting against Pain, an incredibly powerful enemy with the ability to destroy entire villages. Despite being outnumbered and outmatched, Naruto manages to tap into a new power called the Sage Mode, which grants him immense strength and agility. While this power-up is exciting to watch, it feels like a cheap way to give Naruto an easy win.
Similarly, in episode 168, Naruto gains access to a new ability called the Nine-Tails Chakra Mode, which allows him to harness the power of the Nine-Tailed Fox that was sealed inside him as a child. This power-up feels like a lazy way to make Naruto even more overpowered, and it undermines the idea of hard work and dedication being the key to success in the ninja world.
In conclusion, while the writing of Naruto is excellent, the power system leaves something to be desired. The show relies too heavily on cheap power-ups and deus ex machina moments, which can be frustrating to watch. However, the characters and the world-building are still engaging, and I would recommend Naruto to fans of the shonen genre.

Naruto
This long-anticipated animation surprised the whole world with its convergence of characters and story. In general, the series episodes 1 to some series in Naruto Shippuden (162, 163, 165, 168, 174, and 175) focus mainly on Japanese social problems and universal topics that have crossed any borders of the country. The story of Naruto is that of a small boy who feels ostracized and seeks to be recognized, eventually becoming the Hokage—struggling for acceptance and finding oneself within this society, which values group loyalty. Naruto Shippuden elaborates on the themes of war and peace, the cycle of hatred, pain from conflicts, and fighting to find peace in a torn world—only from episodes 162 through 175. It is relevant to our interconnected and turbulent world today.
That was one of the most touching moments that had occurred to me in the episodes: the confrontation of Naruto and Pain. This discussion was truly of heart-wrenching pain, loss, and peace. It just reminds us how many problems we go through in our lives, and its shade relates to the wider conflicts in society. It only gives the hopeful message of the resolute. Naruto's will to break that circle of hatred and seek a path of peace. His story simply reminds me that, amidst all this chaos and complaining, there lies a light of hope in which we can all rise and make a difference in our communities. Essentially, in the years to develop a universal theme, Naruto brought a strong, relevant tale for audiences anywhere in the world: a bundle of lessons worth investing in and a sense of connection that cuts through cultures.

Naruto
Today's anime is really interesting, because Naruto is the first anime I ever watched. Not like fully watched but I would see my cousins watching and I would do the same with them sometimes too. I have also played Naruto video games and I would say I liked it a lot. Even though I am not a fan of anime, I would say that Naruto would be my best bet if I was an anime fan. However, I recently watched several episodes of Naruto, including the first episode and episodes 162, 163, 165, 168, 174, and 175. Just for an overview, this anime is about a boy named Naruto who wants to become a powerful ninja to gain social recognition. Watching these episodes gave me a lot to think about which I did not think it would, regarding issues in Japan and around the world.
Narute explores themes like feeling isolated, determination, and trying to be accepted, which are relevant in many places, including Japan. In Episode 1, Naruto is shunned by his village because of the Nine-Tails Fox demon inside him. This shows the problem of bullying and being left out, which is common in Japan and many other countries. In Episodes 162 and 163, we see Naruto’s determination to protect his friends and village, showing the importance of perseverance and loyalty, values that are highly regarded in Japanese culture and around the world.
While I don't have the same experiences as Naruto, I can relate to his desire for acceptance and recognition. In Episode 165, Naruto continues to fight despite overwhelming odds, showing incredible resilience. This reminds me of the challenges I've faced in my own life, especially moving to a new country and trying to fit in. Just like Naruto, I've had to work hard to prove myself and gain acceptance in a new environment. His story is inspiring because it shows that determination and a strong will can help overcome many obstacles.
I do not necessarily believe that our assigned readings and viewing so far are relevant with the themes in Naruto, but I can say that they connect to a certain level when talking about social identity and the need for recognition. For example, in the readings on modern Japanese culture, the importance of perseverance and hard work is emphasized, which is clearly depicted in Naruto's journey. Episodes 174 and 175 highlight Naruto's growth and the recognition he finally receives from his village, aligning with the concept of achieving social recognition through persistent effort.
Overall, watching Naruto was an enlightening experience, brought back a lot of memories from when I was kid. The anime addresses significant social issues like isolation and the quest for acceptance, which are relevant both in Japan and globally. Naruto's journey resonates with my own experiences of overcoming challenges and striving for recognition. The connections to our readings further highlight the importance of perseverance and social identity. Naruto is not just an entertaining show, as I would think before, but also a meaningful story about resilience and the human spirit.
Thank you everyone for reading!!!

Naruto — Ep. 1 & Naruto Shippūden — Ep. 162, 163, 168, 174, 175 (SUB)
Throughout the series of Naruto, the anime has developed into a story of coming to age and of being finally accepted by your peers through one’s good works. It showcases how Naruto, the titular character of the story, who had once been deemed an outcast and a menace to his society and community, has finally been praised as a hero and celebrated by those that once held him in a damning light.
The episodes that were featured in this class helped to elucidate upon how Naruto had grown and matured, putting forth his best efforts to be a hero in his community and to be acknowledged by it.
The way that Naruto had viewed the world was quite antithetical to the way that Pain had viewed it with his nihilistic philosophies—which further served to emphasize Naruto’s optimism and show how he serves to be the Yang to the Yin of the story at hand.
Pain had adopted his mindset due to the fact that his community, and thus himself and the people around him, were affected detrimentally by the rest of the ninja society. He grew power hungry and aimed to gain peace, or his version of peace at the very least, by any means necessary for what can be seen as to the benefit of himself, the people around him, and his community.
On the obverse, though, despite Naruto being demeaned at every corner he turned throughout his village, and being the sole subject of everyone in that village’s contempt, he did not aim to go to such extremes of nihilism as was adopted by Pain. He took route of self-betterment, took sovereignty of his own being, and aimed to be acknowledged through hard work. This is very reminiscent, at least to my own perspective, of how many capitalist societies view how one should be accepted—through patience and hard work. Despite all that may come at you, you will get to a better end through your hard work and determination.
Pain and Naruto, to this end, are two sides of the same coin. Pain, in the way that I interpret the logic that drove him to the ends that he took, saw that the ends justified the means and valued more inherently the right of a person to have sovereignty over their own happiness and being—Naruto, however, embraced the process of optimism and the principles of hard work and determination—of ganbare—and saw that one’s worth can be built up through actions and the accumulation of clout amongst your community.

Naruto: Shippuden (Ep. 1, 162, 163, 168, 174, 175)
I was thoroughly entertained by these episodes. They had interesting action scenes and dialogue. What remained in my mind the most after watching these episodes was when there is a flashback to young Nagato saying that what's not important is the method of achieving peace, but to believe that peace can be achieved. It made me think that maybe faith in peace is what will lead us slowly closer to peace.
Nagato's idea of peace was to make everyone suffer the same pain and then to make sure no one would wage war against him by collecting the jinchurikis and creating a weapon of mass destruction.
Naruto does not know what peace will look like in the end, but he has an idea that killing and causing suffering is not the way to go. He also believes in stopping the cycle of revenge by deciding not to kill Nagato.
When asked by Nagato how Naruto can be sure that he will not change and will continue to search for peace no matter what hardships may come, his answer is quite naïve. He says that it's because he is the main character of the book by Jiraiya Sensei and that he must stay true to himself so that the book will remain true.
It's interesting to see that the villagers only accepted Naruto after he was able to prove himself. All he wanted was attention and the acceptance of the villagers but because of his Nine Tailed Fox, he was shunned and excluded. Only when he proved himself useful was he able to gain positive attention and acceptance.

Naruto (ep.1) Naruto Shippūden (ep. 162, 163, 168, 174, 175)
RATING: ★★★★★
Out of all the anime series and movies we have watched so far, the Naruto series definitely has to be one of my favorites. I had watched part of season one a few years ago, but watching part of Shippuden convinced me to continue. Compared to other anime, the series does an exceptional job at portraying both the protagonist and antagonists’ sides to the viewer.
First, let’s start with war – the prominent theme being discussed in class these past few weeks. Once more, Naruto puts forth the notion that no one truly wins in war. However, as observers, we do see different perspectives on the subject of conflict. First is the cycle of hatred as proposed by Nagato (Pain). According to this theory, suffering triggers hatred, which feeds the vicious circle further. The two sides of the same coin are justice and revenge, and once vengeance is passed off as justice, you are already on the road to inflicting more suffering. Nagato also thinks that peace is an illusion in which bigger countries appreciate it while smaller one’s struggle. But the idea that war is fought to defend the things we cherish was also suggested. This affection itself is the cause of hatred.
When compared, the story's protagonist and antagonist, Naruto and Nagato, are remarkably similar. Both are Jiraiya's disciples. Both have gone through a great deal of anguish and hardship. Both aim to establish harmony. The distinction is that Yahiko's passing and Nagato's ultimate breakdown caused Nagato to lose his goal. His disappointment serves as the motivation for his negative strategy for achieving peace. But Naruto hasn't given up on his initial vision yet. Naruto grew up in a toxic atmosphere where he was aware that the villagers were gossiping about him but didn't grasp the true motivation. We saw in the first episode how Naruto became isolated from his class and eventually began acting out in order to feel loved and get recognition. Despite going through these experiences as a child, Naruto still felt a duty to defend his community rather than lash out and make matters worse. Despite all the suffering he has experienced, he has remained intact, and so he continues to have that upbeat resolve. Even at the arc's conclusion, when Nagato queries Naruto about his strategy for establishing peace, Naruto doesn't appear to have a concrete plan. He only possesses a great deal of faith and optimism, but it seems that was sufficient to persuade Nagato and reignite his own goal of world peace.
Lastly, Naruto also has a great coming-of-age theme, as we see Naruto at first alone and shunned by the Hidden Leaf. He yearned for acceptance but is rejected. But by the end, we see the challenges he faces in getting the respect he so desperately wants. He is now regarded as the community savior by The Hidden Leaf.
Overall, I’m excited to keep watching since I stopped in the middle of season 1 and just didn’t have any motivation to get past it. The episodes we had to watch were quite enjoyable, and I see why the franchise has gathered so much love and support.

Naruto EP 1; and Naruto Shippuden EP 162, 163, 168, 174, 175
Naruto is another one of the anime’s on the list for this class that I have watched before, and as it is one that has a good bit of episodes it did take me a while to get through it the first time I was watching it. Rewatching these episodes for this class however I was able to pick up on some things that I didn't notice the first time around when I was watching for mere enjoyment. As we have gone over some somewhat heavy topics in this class regarding different movies and anime’s I think that this anime incorporates a few of those topics all into this children's show so to speak. The main villain so to speak in this set of episodes went by the name nagato and based on his ideology that if the shinobi continue to be strong and exist, then the civilians won't ever be able to experience or world without conflict. We see in this set of episodes it really pushes the idea that in order for peace to exist pain must exist first, and I think this concept of getting to peace through pain is something that we can kind of see in today's society. With the whole statement “life is not fair” it capitalizes on the idea that people are going to experience pain but that's just the way the world works and there isn't anything that you or I can do about it, and I think this ties into what nagato believes that for peace to exist pain it's something that simply has to exist before peace. Naruto who throughout the entire series has a positive optimistic outlook on things is centralized in these episodes as the turning point for nagato and makes him realize that Naruto has experienced a lot of pain but that hasn't dampened his belief that people deserve peace and he will do whatever it takes in order to help the people around him not have to go through the same pains that he did. Overall I think that this show does a good job in bringing about different social constructs and issues in a way that an older audience would be able to grasp and understand but the younger audience watching will be able to enjoy from the standpoint of the quote on quote ninja theme.
