“Naruto! How many ramen bowls have you eaten?!” You ask the boy after he finished his god knows what bowl of ramen.

“This one is my seventh.” Naruto said as he was served another bowl of ramen.

“I told you love, he loves ramen.” Iruka replied to you, Kakashi nodded in agreement. You saw Team Seven look amongst each other when Iruka called you “love”, Kakashi and Iruka had already called you “dear” so it was either you three were really good friends or you three were dating. He had eaten his ramen in record timing, only you and Iruka were able to see him without his mask on. And boi, he was HOT, and Iruka is the most adorable, sweetest, cutest ninja EVER.

“By love I thought you meant 3 bowls not… 12?! Jesus Christ Naruto how fast do you eat?” Iruka, Kakashi, and Naruto laughed their asses off as you rolled your eyes.

“Don’t worry Y/N, I get more annoyed than you think.” Sakura said, patting you on the back. You studied the girl for a second.

“Y’know, you have such a beautiful name.” You said Sakura, realizing she somewhat resembles cherry blossoms.

“Thanks Y/N!” Sakura replied. You patted her on the head before you finished your second ramen bowl.

“Naruto, don’t eat more than 15 bowls or I swear to god.” You said turning back to Naruto.

“Fine.” Naruto said while eating his up-teenth bowl. You chucked a bit.

“Naruto, I do have to pay for six people, and if you eat more than fifteen bowls I won’t have enough on me to pay.” You said to him. He finished what you thought was his 15th bowl after a few because he sat back, trying to make sure he wouldn’t eat any more ramen. To you, you knew he was experiencing absolute torture.

“Sasuke, who do you like?” You whispered to Sasuke. You had a big suspicion it was someone in his team. Cough cough SasuNaru cough cough.

“I know you know.” He replied, a little flustered. 

“You know, I love it when my ships are real. Thanks for that!” You thanked him. You had to make him feel you weren’t teasing him.

“Here’s your check Ma’am, please come again.” Someone said behind the counter. When you received the check you were astonished at how much Naruto’s ramen cost alone. You paid, of course but had the most priceless expression on your face to Kakashi and Iruka. If Naruto ate like that every time they treated him to ramen, you would be astonished at how they would’ve survived. After crying through that traumatizing experience, you smiled at Team Seven.

“You guys did great at training, and Naruto, you were great at eating the most ramen I’ve ever known. ‘Kashi and ‘Ruka still have some work to do so they’ll be around for a few more hours. I’ma head to my house and hopefully I’ll see you three later.” You said goodbye. Sakura hugged you goodbye and the boys gave you high fives.

“Oh, Y/N, don’t you dare tell Naruto or I swear to god I will find out where you sleep.” Sasuke said before you left. You promised you wouldn’t tell Naruto, but Kakashi and Iruka were definitely gonna find out.

Chōji sighs as he slams his fist into the ground, barely missing Ino's head.

He's tired and frustrated. They've been at this all morning and Ino barely has half of her attention on him. Instead, she's mostly been keeping an eye on Shikamaru. It's a nice change from all the ranting that she was doing yesterday about her utter failure to seduce sensei, but it's going to be awful when Shikamaru wins their bet.

And Shikamaru will, he was too confident to fail.

It's not fair, but Chōji will bet on him over Ino any day of the month.

Which is why he's not surprised when Ino jumps onto his shoulders and hisses for him to be quiet.

Keeping Up With the Kage (Part 2)

Tanuki Mode? Or am I in the Sands on this idea?

Everyone knows about the iconic rings around Gaara’s eyes. Everyone. Me, you, that person over there, grandma, the pizza delivery guy... everyone. More or less. 

That eyeliner’s on-point, right? 

Well, ladies and gents, and every one of my respective audience members not in that category, it’s actually not makeup. 

As you should already know, Gaara was the jinchuuriki of the One-Tails, Shukaku, until he had the bijuu extracted by the terrorist organization, the Akatsuki in early Shippuden (episode #12, A Retired Granny; chapter #255). 

Up until that point, Gaara had spent his entire life with the bijuu inside of him, as it was sealed inside of him while he was still in his mother’s womb (chapter #97, page 8, page 9, & page 10) to become the village’s greatest weapon. 

And even just after birth, Gaara had the rings around his eyes.

Not just in the anime (Shippuden episode #297, A Father's Hope, A Mother's Love), but also in the manga (chapter 547, page 3) which is where it really counts.

So it’s a feature he has always had, but wait. In the image from chapter #547, right up above, Rasa (Gaara’s father) has those rings too. It’s genetic, right? No. Or well, not exactly if they are.

Here’s Rasa when he’s not around Gaara from episode 297.

And here how Gaara remembers him in his Tsukuyomi flashback.

So he doesn’t always have the rings around his eyes. Which isn’t more clear than by this image from chapter #546, page 10.

Wait, what? Let’s see that again.

This isn’t photoshop, people. In this clip from YouTube, about 19 seconds in, Rasa activates these rings around his eyes (which is from Shippuden #296 at about 18:54 into the episode on Crunchyroll.com). 

Huh... That looks pretty familiar, doesn’t it.

With Naruto’s Sage-Kurama Mode eyes, the orange Sage marks appear similarly. But that’s not all. There’s someone else that has the same eye rings as Gaara and Rasa.

His name is Bunpuku, a priest who was the former jinchuuriki of Shukaku before passing away of old age, however not before sealing Shukaku into a tea kettle (chapter 97, page 9). He appeared in chapter #660 (Shippuden #392, The Hidden Heart) and he wasn’t in battle nor using his powers for anything at the time. He and Shukaku were simply discussing the next jinchuuriki to take up the mantle, which leads me to believe that his eye rings are also permanent. 

Just like Naruto’s whiskers.

But why does the Father of the Year have these rings?

If you even have to ask, yes. I do have a theory about this. 

Let’s go back to chapter 97, page 9. (I’ve already put in a link to it earlier, so I’m not going to link it again.)

So we haven’t actually discussed Bunpuku’s tea kettle, but it’s actually very important. You see, this relates back to the story that both Shukaku and Bunpuku originated from, ‘Bunbuku Chagama’. 

Now, as the story goes, a poor man rescues a tanuki and the tanuki decides to return the favor by doing something to make him less poor. The tanuki turns into a tea kettle and tells the man to sell it so that he can have money. So the man does and sells it to a monk named ‘Shukaku’ and in one of the many variations of the tale, the tanuki stays and miraculously, never runs out of hot water.

So what if the tea kettle that Bunpuku had sealed Shukaku into never ran out of chakra? In fact, what if it was overflowing? That would explain why Rasa was willing to seal Shukaku inside of Gaara while he was still in the womb.

But then what happened to the excess chakra?

Bijuu chakra like that can’t exactly be left sitting around or free to anyone to use. People could panic. Someone could utilize the chakra for their own personal gain.

Someone could use the Ichibi against Sunagakure. They are on the brink of economic crisis after the Third Shinobi War.

Who else could they use?

Hmm...

Well we know while Rasa was the Kazekage, he had to raise the ability standards of the village so that their shinobi would be able to take on more difficult and more lucrative missions (chapter 95, page 10).

And also according to chapter 547, page 4, Gaara was not the only one Chiyo and Rasa attempted to seal Shukaku into.

What if Rasa tried to have Shukaku sealed inside of him first?

It’s not too ludicrous to believe. I mean, there have been others to have bijuu chakra inside of them that were able to use the chakra to their advantage.

Kinkaku and Ginkaku. They ate part of Kurama’s stomach lining and gained his chakra abilities as a result.

Minato. But he’s debatable since he did have part of Kurama inside of him, but he was only able to use this after death since the sealing process ended his life.

Sora (Naruto Shippuden, episode #54). He’s not canon since it’s anime-only, but I figured I’d throw him in here.

And in Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 4, Rin Nohara was able to harness Isobu’s (the Sanbi’s) powers and transform back. But like Minato, this is debatable since she did have the Sanbi inside of her, although it was never sealed. That and we never get to see her use it since she killed herself using Kakashi’s Chidori. But here’s a video of her moveset in Ninja Storm 4.

So all of that leads me to believe that Rasa in a pseudo-jinchuuriki as well. But you want to know what this could also mean?

These two could also be pseudo-jinchuurikis by birth. I say this because of the iconic whiskers on their cheeks just like Naruto’s.

Only time and more content will tell, but for now, that’s just what I’m going to speculate. And more importantly, now we know why Gaara’s eyeliner is always and will always be ‘on-point’.
