Both groups find themselves investigating the same incidents but are refusing to team up because petty and neither are backing down either.

9.5 times out of 10, Peter Parker ends up going to U.A and happily integrates into Hero Society. That's not how it would go down.

Peter would take two seconds to look at the state of Japan and think to himself, "This is wrong, on so many levels."

I want BAMF Vigilante Peter Parker giving the Pro Heroes a headache. I want to see him team up with the Naruhata Vigilantes and Eraserhead, reluctantly. I want to see him guide villians like Twice and Toga towards a new path. I want to see him rescue Eri before the Heroes even finish filling the warrant.

Is that so much to ask?

Nine Lives by machiroads | You may have been wondering if I was going to start by recommending Nine Lives again and yes I'm going to recommend Nine Lives again, who do you think I am. This fic was my Book Of The Year 2023. I'm also going to recommend its Shinsou-centric spinoff, Naruhata Noir, bc I love Shinsou and NN is so fun despite the literal actual cannibalism (mind the tags, but I didn't find anything in this fic overly graphic!)

Actually, I am going to blanket recommend everything by machiroads, you literally can't go wrong. Special shoutout to 1966 Ford Nutstang GT350 Shelby for Present Mic's quarter-life crisis and Aizawa at his Most Gremlin Ever, I love this fic sm.

let's make some noise (time goes fast when you're having fun) by carolinaa | The first time I read this fic, I actually scrolled right back up to the top and read it again. It's so good. I don't even know where to start. First of all, my favorite Hizashi POV I have literally ever read. The way the author handled everything from his hearing loss to the inherent horror of trying to navigate your 20s. How much he and Aizawa love each other. So much about this fic feels so whole? in a way? I don't know? 1000/10, no notes.

Cry Me A River is another favorite by carolinaa. I literally am wrapping this fic around my shoulders like a weighted blanket.

Passaggio by kashinoha | If you would Like To Cry, this fic is a very recent read for me. Another really good Present Mic POV, but also I curled up into a weepy little ball on the ground upon reading it. I just want the boys to take care of themselves for once is that too much to ask.

nothing as undoing by HalloweenClown | 'Fics that land somewhere between soft and stabbing me in the heart,' which is where a lot of Aizawa & Eri fics land for me. This fic does such an excellent job of capturing the very early stages of building trust™ between them.

acid reflux by lcthe | Vigilante Midoriya AU with a twist(?) The vibes are surreal, the vibes are I'm confused, the vibes are I'm having a great time, and the writing is excellent. It's incomplete and being revised, but I read up to Chapter 3 fairly recently and the erasermic in that chapter,, so painful but so good. Fair warning, this one does get a little dark!

the river walked me home by Thealmostrhetoricalquestion | Writing this post actually reminded me that I want to reread this one. It was the first Todoroki-centric fic I ever read in this fandom (something like a year ago? or close to it?) and I can vividly remember shedding tears over Animal Crossing. I have never played Animal Crossing.

My Brother, My Brother, and Me and Breaking the Ice by seventh_time_lucky | SPEAKING of fics I want to reread, we are going back to 'Liza's pre-ao3 era' (as in, the fics are on ao3, but I was not) These two follow Natsuo as he tries to get to know Shouto after growing up as virtual strangers. There are sentences in the first fic that genuinely haunt me, and the entire coffee conversation (motif?) in the second fic is just. So good? I'm so glad I was able to find them again.

komorebi by Calamitatum | If you're interested in a waaay canon divergent fic, this one reads like a gut punch (in a good way!!) komorebi is one of those fics that I started reading thinking 'oh, that's an interesting premise' and then ended up thinking 'oh god wait what oh no.' I don't want to spoil anything but it definitely went in a direction I wasn't expecting, and honestly it feels like a masterclass in building tension, tackling multiple POVs, and callbacks, my beloved. This author is soo good at unpacking exposition, backstory, and motivation through conversations as well, which I appreciate greatly bc I struggle so hard with that in my own writing. The fic is incomplete with one chapter remaining, so I'm currently rereading it while waiting for the final update!

TheLreads, Vigilantes ch 118, Replies Part 2

1) “Oh yeah, Koichi got a lot of broken bones and lost a lot of blood less than two minutes ago. Good thing that was not easily solved and completely brushed aside, phew, it would be a problem if we had lasting damage to raise the stakes or something. Anyway, how’s your coma going Pop?”- Yet symbolic/meaningful, yet minor damage like Nomura’s scar-creating slash manages to stick around. Gotta love it. 2) “Koichi is mastering the art of of using so much power to blow up his target that whatever is behind said target remains completely intact, especially if it’s made out of glass.

The boy is truly becoming too powerful”- We could chalk it up to precise damage control, only inputting as much force as would be needed to blow through a target and lose all inertia when coming out the other side, but yes, Izuku’s own building-destroying punches always carried some collateral effects, which is why he needed to beat Overhaul up in the sky to go all out. 3) “yeah sure, now all his power comes from the power of friendship”- Friendship, and believing in himself!...but sadly, “believing in himself” also means he believes even more strongly in his “no-killing” rule. 4) “Shame that AfO has ignored the most likely scenario that explains this situation: The author is pulling it out of his ass as needed. It’s in a need-to-pull basis.”- Koichi has evolved to the ultimate tier of power: becoming the author’s pet character, and reaping the benefits. 5) “Well good thing he’s not literally burning himself away by kicking his, erm, quirk, into overdrive. You know, his plasma based quirk.”- Honestly, seeing Nomura start to falter a little might have helped here. Give some sense that this power-up is as taxing on him as it is destructive, rather than him just hovering on the verge of death for several chapters. 6) “All the fun thinking that Pop has more impact in the story as a ghost than as an alive person, I need to start grabbing the beer bottles again.”- Hey, at least this way she gets to contribute! 7) “Oh he’s gonna go for the close-and-personal hit?

KOICHI DID YOU FORGOT HE’S MADE OUT OF PLASMA? DO YOU KNOW HOW HOT THAT STUFF IS?!”-I mean, not much of an issue when Koichi’s punches have an automatic “keep-away” function built into them now. Guy’s a walking, hitting force field. 8) “You know Koichi, you should at least try aiming for his teeth, because apparently he can made solid teeth out of plasma.”- Nomura’s attempts to warp the fabric of reality in his favour to win are commendable, but doomed. 9) “OH MY FUCKING GOD ANOTHER FLASHBACK GOD PLEASE SAVE ME FROM THIS”- I can’t tell if this final battle was harder on Koichi, or you. This would’ve been a terrific opportunity to show Tenko there playing hero with them, although he most certainly didn’t live anywhere near Naruhata.

He did go out and play ball with some of them when he was still innocent, it’s where he picked up the inspiration to become a hero like they all aspired to, until finding Nana’s picture solidified it. 11) “who the fuck just left their All Might figurine behind like that? Kids those days smdh…”- Litterers in the future throw away not only their disposable plastic junk, but also their perfectly-functioning toys too! 12) “You know, everybody just gives up wanting to be a hero a few years later. Everyone.”- Times like these, a re-read to refresh yourself on the inner lore of the world is necessary.  Eiichiro Oda has a whole conspiracy-ass corkboard that he refers to on occasion to keep track of plot points. 13) “DID- DID FURUHASHI FUCKING FORGOT WHAT HE FUCKING WROTE HIMSELF?!”- I can practically see the blood pouring from your eyeballs as you read this. 14) “OH LOOK, THE GHOSTS WENT AWAY

GUESS THAT MESSING UP WITH THE TIMELINE SENT RIPPLES THROUGH TIME AND SPACE”- The ghosts went away, but the fight goes ever onward… 15) “I had a feeling before you were treating me like I was stupid Furuhashi, but after that last flashback I’m sure of that, and I will never forgive you for that.”- To be fair, with the monthly release schedule, I’d totally forgotten about the content of the earlier chapters, so I didn’t pick up on the inconsistency until you pointed it out.

(Vigilantes ch 116) 16) “WHEN YOU PRETTY MUCH ACT LIKE IT WAS NO BIG DEAL, JUST A FANTASY THAT YOU WERE READY TO GROW OUT OF

RIGHT???”- And now, with the hoodie getting burst and blasted away to nothing by Nomura’s barrage, it’s finally time for the Crawler to end his vigilante days for good. @thelreads

The thing about Vig, to me, is that it's connection to the main story is probably it's biggest weak point. On one hand, it gives Furuhashi a lot to pull from and means he doesn't have to set up a lot of parts of the world. On the other hand it means he has to play by BNHA's rules.

And he's not very good at that.

Some of my favorite moments end up creating contradictions or plot holes when weighed against the main series. Why is that how X works? What is Y doing while this is happening?

By being connected to the wider world, Naruhata is opened to scrutiny, and questioning of why the rules it plays by are so different.

Personally, I think this whole fight is really cool. I like the symbolism, I like 6's escalating insanity, and I like 6's increasingly absurd final forms. But when you take a step back from the spectacle and remember that this is supposed to happen in the same world as Izuku Midoriya, a few years prior, no less, the cracks start to show, in the spots where Naruhata ends and U.A. begins.

Still, Vigilantes holds a larger place in my heart than the main series, and I think that might be why I'm more accepting of its flaws.

Yes, you put this precisely into words my friend. This is what I've been saying for quite some time, being a BNHA prequel is detrimental to both of them. Vigilantes should've been about its own thing, about its own plotline and its own characters that just so happen to take place in the same world of BNHA, not trying to tie back to the main series with every passing panel. A lot of the events would be interesting as stand-alone, but trying to fit them into preexisting molds of the main series is completely dumb.

I keep hearing about how Furuhashi's current work, the doc octopus little girl one, is actually pretty damn good both in storytelling and in general consistency, so perhaps there's a bit of executive meddling in here, but it could be that he just improved on criticisms of Vigilantes. Regardless, I like this story, and this is why I need to be direct about the things that are wrong with it.

what are your thoughts on the upcoming anime adaptation of "Vigilante"?

I’m skeptical whether there is going to be an anime adaption. I heard the rumors, but have not seen any official sources confirming it.

Which is sad, because I so would love a Vigilante anime! idk if it would translate well to screen, but I love Koichi, I love Makoto, I love the community of Naruhata, and I love love love Number Six. It would be fun to see them in action. I wanna know what Number Six sounds like !! I want to see him go crazy.

My only crazy wish would be to get a cameo of Shigaraki Tomura. that didn’t happen in the manga. But I don’t care. Just stick a silhouette of him somewhere.

Izuku Midoriya's dream of becoming a hero was dead, thanks to All Might, the man he used to look up to, crushing his dreams into ashes. His mother was dead, officially killed in a villain attack, when in truth it was a hero that struck the killing blow. Not even the orphanages and foster homes wanted him. And yet, despite longing to end it all, his own stubborn will kept him alive, doing everything he possibly could to survive.

Tomura looked so confused “no? H-heroes left me on t-the streets for days before S-Sensei found me and took m-me in, he’s the only one t-that cares about me. M-My family is dead.”

"Sadly there are some who are not that great as well are some areas that get overlooked by heroes. For example, the city of Naruhata barely has any heroes patrolling it. In response, there would be a higher amount of villains there as well as vigilantes."

He was starting to wonder if the person he spoke of happened to be the other parent in this case. He didn't really want to assume the worst but that might be the case.

The Crawler vs USJ Nomu

The Naruhata Vigilantes have been alerted of the attack on USJ due to a late running villain in the last minute. With no time to waste, Koichi Haimawari races forward to deal with the threat while Knuckleduster and Popstep attempt to contact the Pros.

Koichi's win condition is either stalling the Nomu long enough for All Might to arrive or to take it down himself. The Nomu simply needs to kill him. Neither will be receiving help.

Scenarios:

1. Koichi believes that the Nomu is a fully sentiment person and holds back as a result.

2. Koichi figures out (or, more likely, is told that Nomu is basically a zombie) and puts in a bit more fire power, but subconsciously still pulls back.

3. No Mercy.

Mighty Vigilante: If Small Might has worked with the Naruhata crew, how did he react to the Crawler using All Might brand hoodies as costume? And how did the Crawler react when All Might turned into Small Might on live TV at Kamino?

Koichi remembers all of their interactions and is horrified.
