He cut the man’s skin in a clean straight line, top to bottom. This was a huge problem. I had cut a “shark bite” on the opposite side. Now I had a vertical cut roughly at the apex of my cut, about 4 inches proximal (higher) than the end of my incision. The apex of my cut is where the bone was to be amputated. The remaining tissue was supposed to cover the amputation. Because of the vertical incision, I would not have enough tissue to cover the stump. I was at a loss for what to do, but we were in the middle of the surgery. I wasn’t going to give up on the procedure or my patient. I chose to continue with amputation. I’d figure something out when we got to that stage. I took the scalpel and continued to cut through muscle, burning and ligating vessels as I came to them, till I was to the tibia and fibula bones. I took the Gigli saw and prepared to cut into through the bone. It was then that I realized that handles had not been sent with the saw, nor had I requested them. I tried securing the ends with grenade pins. This didn’t work. You might ask why, but most of you are probably wondering what happened to the grenades: not important to this story. I monkey gripped the ends of the saw with my gloved hands and commenced to cutting. Smoke and a fine mist of bone rose from the cut. Social Distortion was playing angrily in the background, “…children are taught to hate…” “Water.” A corpsman squeezed saline from an IV bag onto the cut site. I continued to saw. SNAP. “Ok, we’re through.” There was a sense of relief. We had cut off a man’s leg. It was laying on the litter in front of me, like a movie prop. I had effectively tourniqueted the leg and ligated vessels. The man was alive, stable, and not in pain. The respite was over as quickly as it began. I still had the stump to deal with. I looked at the end of the man’s leg, the bones exposed, mosquito clamps tangling from arteries and veins like ornaments. All eyes were on me. i woke up almost 10 na today doeee heheh mas dugay na kesa last days but ion also like dapat 9:30 lang cos tapulan na dayon ko doe if lapas na ana haahhah issa i tunaw iced coffee doe but i didnt work heheh see issa ma unproductive jd ko if almost 10 na mata so dapat 9:30-9:45 lang!!

issa i tot dis day gonna be unproductive doeee cos not productive ako morning and da weather so nice and just wanna rest but at 1pm kay nag group call mi cos nag finalize sa isa ka final paper for one sub and niapil ko tas 3pm na nahuman sooo dugaaay 🤦🏻‍♀️ i was so sleepy na pajd doeee and bugnaw pajd room ni mommy nya kaligoon napd au ko doeee aishhh issa naka sleep gyd ko doe kamulo minaw sailaha!! 🤦🏻‍♀️ i think ka sleep ko 20 mins doeeee hahah but issa after dat nag tabang man ko arrange sa RRL doeee heheh and omggg mana jd mi sa isa ka final paper!!! gi save to pdf najd so final na hahahha

after dat naligo na gyd ko doeee feels nice to ligooo hehe and just ate snacks after mom made giant cookies das what i ate lang heheh and nag watch lang dayon ko kdrama in da tv heheheh but then i got busy napd again cos i edit ur video doeeee na stop ako kdrama time huuuh aishhh but atleast i’m done napd with one of ur vid ehhehehhe affer dat issa nag work nalang pd ko sako semi-finals nga pila na nako ka days gi baliwala hahahhaa and i finished it na gyd yeheeeyyyy!!!!!

and then sunod2 na dayon ako gi do doeee help tka saimo franchise paper issa dapat put ko ninyo there huh heheh but issa pagka 9 kay nag play mi CODM ni kyla and janica doeee hehe and mga 4 games pd to issa 1 hour kapin nalowbat gyd ko aishhh but i like cos not na lag net hehehhe yaaay das why also dugay kyko ka start saimo franchise paper cos nag dula pko hahahah

but das all doeee i palong da laptop 11 na and im sleepy na doeee 🤦🏻‍♀️ i think no kdrama na tonight huhuhu cos nag scroll2 nalang pd ko but das ok heheheh tom nalang and sa sunday!!!

update: its 1:02 am and gikan ko lablab kang baby and karma doeee!! cos gkan man ko watch kdrama and mag sleep na unta ko but nihapit ko fb doe and ko na see vid nga naay smol dog natagak sa pool huhu and gi rescue sya sa isa ka big dogggg like iya kauban sa house and dugay jd au narescue but wala sya gi byaan huhu and i lablab chivas doe cos naa man sya sko bed i told him not pa sya pwede ma dead or ma in danger hmppfff dat video made me want to lablab my dogs doe cos scared ko mawala sila huhu and nakonsenya ko doe cos ako spank baby kanina kay gaawayon niya karma and saba au sya doeee and i know sa ubos ra sya ga sleep so go ko there ako sya lablab and nag sorry ko doeee and karma da idiot murag mahadlok sya go down but ga cry sya doeee 🤦🏻‍♀️ so adto ko taas ako sya lablab very happy da idiot and gi ambakan pako para mag kiss aishhhh idiot gyyd ehehhe das ol sleep nko bye

I had no training with the FAST1. It was a new device. The med shed had given me two of them, told me they were IO (intraosseous) kits, and I had tossed them in my trauma bag, where they had stayed for the last 8 months until now. I removed the contents of the package and laid them on my patient’s anesthetized chest. I handed the package to one of the corpsman. “Here. Read these instructions to me.” I prepped the site and held the group of needles over the chest as instructed. “…apply firm even pressure”, THUNK!, “…holy shit!” The IO needle launched like a spear gun into the man’s sternum. I connected my IV line to his chest then piggy backed a couple of 500ml bags: one with ketamine to keep him under, and the other with a gram or so of Ancef because this was surgery at its dirtiest. Next, my surgical team (shown), consisting of myself (18D), an 18C SF engineer, an SF warrant officer, a 68W combat medic (in the poncho), and two Navy corpsman prepped the leg for removal. We were on the clock. With a marker, I drew a horizontal v-shaped cut line on my side of the leg. I was attempting to execute a shark bite technique where I cut the bone farther up than the tissue in order to have muscle and skin to cover the stump. I handed the marker to my assistant surgeon, my 18C, and he made his mark. “Scalpel”, I instructed a corpsman. I touched the blade to the skin. “WhoaAAAAAA!” The old man moaned. Everyone froze. He didn’t move or retract but he did yell at the top of his lungs. I had learned that nightmares, specifically sex nightmares, were a side effect of ketamine. I didn’t know if he was in pain or dreaming. I looked at my warrant, who I had trained to be my mud hut anesthesiologist. “Hand me that syringe of lidocaine.” I finished my cut and handed the knife to the 18C. He started his cut. “NO! We were in an elevator, nakalimutan ko sino kasama ko, then suddenly humawak yung mga kasama namin na seaman students yata sa gilid na bakal, like they’re preparing for some impact.

Napahawak din kami ng kasama ko. Then bumabagsak na nga yung elevator na parang container ng truck. Napunta naman kami bigla sa dagat. Pero nasa loob pa din kami ng container.

Tapos biglang umapoy yung nasa side namin, I don’t know pano kami nakalabas don, pero nasurvive namin.

Turns out nasa balita na pala ‘yun. Pagkarescue sa’min, kinekwento ni Mama sa mga kamag-anak namin kung pa’no syang nag-alala, at hindi makakatulog hangga’t hindi nya nakikita ‘yung mga pangalan ko sa narescue. Inabutan sya ni Papa ng tablet na inabot din sakin to show na andun ako sa balita.

And then di ko alam saang part ng panaginip ko to. Pero yung mga kasama ko pa din sa container yung ka-team ko. May parang elimination na nagaganap. Paunahan makarating dun sa sasakyan namin, hanggang sa malagas. 

I remember nakaabot naman ako sa top 5 or 6. Yun lang. Kakarunning-man at chasing tails ko to hahahah

Mej kagigising ko lang and grabe bungad sa akin na posts sa facebook and twitter. Ang daming kailangan ng rescue. Nakakaawa. Ang sakit sa puso. Pinipigilan ko umiyak pero nagbreakdown na ako nung nabasa ko yung sa papa niya na inatake ng 3 am and tuluyan ng namatay dahil umabot na ng 11 am wala pa ring rescue. 8 hours imagine? May chance pa sanang mabuhay. Hindi niya deserve mamatay sa ganong sitwasyon. Naiyak na lang ako kasi wala akong magawa kundi prayers. Maaring magdonate pero hindi sapat yung nasa akin. Parang kailangan kong may gawin. Then biglang nagchat sa akin close friend ko nung college if gusto ko daw ba magvolunteer to pack reliefd and stuff. Gusto ko kaso iniisip ko kung papayagan ako. Kung hindi man, baka ito ipilit ko. Sa mabuti namang paraan yung pag alis ko. Hay Lord, please keep them safe. Sana narescue na yung mga tao. Sana wala na rin buhay pa ang mawala dahil dito.

AaaaAaaaaaa ang saya ko!! Kukunin ko na si Yassi (Oo pinalitan namin ng name) mamaya!! Ahhh grabe sobrang excited na ako. Akala ko hindi na mabibigay sakin eh tapos makikita ko pa babygirl ko na si Star. Akala namin ni kuya hindi na mabibigay yung tuta kaya sabi ni Mama bibilhan nalang daw niya ako sa birthday ko kaso sabi ko ayoko ng bili gusto ko magadopt. Balak ko din talaga magadopt ng aso, yung pitbull sa may Laguna ayun kasi yung mga pitbull na narescue din sa mga dog fight and jusko po sobrang cucute nila!! Meron na nga dun na gusto kong dog kaso di ko pa maadopt :( May isa pang page sa FB na nakita ko gusto ko din magvolunteer dun mga bandang Bulacan naman kasi nakakaawa yung mga animals dun parang kailangan pa nila ng donations tapos volunteer kaya pag nakaraos na kami ngayon sa hirap isa na yun sa mga gagawin ko. Kaya excited na ako kasi sobrang mahal na mahal ko ang mga dogs pati cats.
