man wouldn’t it be amazing if sefirin kizi came back with season two and pulled a total fazilet hanim ve kizlari and just completely turned focus to nare/gediz like fhvk did with yaghaz at the start of their second season. its not going to happen. i know that’s not going to happen. but god it would be so nice.

Gotta ask if there has been any dizis where the male lead and main ship were so unpopular with the fans that writers had to change things (Like get rid of the male lead or turn him into a villain) and promote a secondary character to the lead cause he’s more popular with the female lead? I’m watching Sefirin Kızı and need hope lol. The plot is trash and it’s handle of rape and mental health is trash but I love Gediz and he has way more chem with the lead than Engin. (1/2)

Also Engin’s character comes off as a controlling, possessive sexist pig. He exhibits behaviour that you expect from the villain while Gediz shows behaviour you expect from the hero. Thr controlling, possessiveness is how I interpret his behaviour. But his character is definitely sexist cause he doesn’t want the female lead to work and then complained about being stuck to look after Melek while she went to work. I don’t get how people like him apart from it being Engin and that’s no excuse (2/2)

Lol, this is such a controversial topic, I must say. I don't remember any example regarding your question, (maybe "Kadın"??) however there is a reason for this.

In Turkish dramas, male leads need to be perfect. So people has to love and support main couples. Even if they aren't perfect, there are always some reasonable (of course it's subjective) excuses. He can have flaws, but this makes him human etc, etc. But this "flaw" depends on writer's world view unfortunately. So if a writer is sexist, the male lead she/he creates will be sexist as hell and she/he doesn't seem to be bothered at all. Because she/he thinks this is understandable.

As in Sefirin Kızı case, the writers are very well known to be sexist and approve of male-dominated romantic relationships. One of them used to be a wattpad writer and when I saw a pharagraph of her works on twitter, I got shocked, because it really looks like she thinks women are kind of items and their dignity depends on if they are virgin. Also Engin Akyürek isn't an actor whom writers turn into a villain easily. He is supposed to get support by all viewers *lol* He is listed under A list actors, so even if his character gets hate, it doesn't matter. The writers always justify his wrongdoings somehow. On the other hand, Uraz isn't considered as male lead material or A list actor, so that's why the chances of that Nare&Gediz couple will happen are so slim.

But in some cases if actors are considered on the same level and story requires it, second lead can have his happy ending in the end. So this way viewers don't think it is surprising. "Dudaktan Kalbe" and "Kadın" are the best examples of this. (I don't think Fazilet Hanım ve Kızları suits this category, because Yağız was always a step ahead of Sinan and kind of a male lead.)

DK is the adaptation of the famous Reşat Nuri Güntekin novel (it has the same title), it is also one of my favorite books as well, but some changes had been made unfortunately. However the writers tried to stick to the main idea of the book. Hüseyin Kenan Gün (Burak Hakkı) and Cemil Paşazade (Yiğit Özşener) are the male leads of the show. Latter might be considered as second lead but since Yiğit Özşener is a very good actor, the writers always wrote the most meaningful scenes for him and made his character shine a little. So in the end, the female lead understood what true love was and chose him. 

“Kadın” is the adaptation of Japanase drama "Woman". I haven't watched the original series so I don't know if the husband of the female lead turned out to be alive, but in Kadın, Bahar's husband who was supposed to be dead, came out alive. Honestly his story was so forced and I think the second lead had more supporters but this might not be the reason why the writers killed off the husband later, it also might be because the actor wanted to quit the show. So, Bahar accepted the second lead Arif’s marriage proposal and they lived happily ever after.
