Okay so narail feels. Really separated from her culture, she was born in Sui-No-Sato, but she and her mom fled to gridania when she was 8 because her dad died due to joining the domain resistance and well. Sui-No-Sato is a very hey we don't do that kinda thing place and her mom soon found that people were not very accepting of her husband's actions and death and basically chased her and her daughter out.

So her mom (who I gotta come up with a name for) brought them to gridania and started a new life in the south shroud, growing and selling apples, yes her last name is kind of a play on the fact that her mom has a cider shop, they both think it's funny. Her mom still privately has a number of cultural things she can't let go, and Narail only learned so much of her birthplace's culture before leaving. But because gridania is the way it is she wasn't allowed to be like immersed in her culture and celebrate it, not many au Ra in gridania, and she changed her name because people were already making fun of her for it and her being an outsider and she kind of HAD to acclimate to this place she now lived in.

Her side of the family was specifically the flameweavers (this is shit I have made up dont worry about it too much lol), and they specifically made clothes and ceremony dress for their main branch family, the flamedancers who were responsible for performing ritual dances at the temple and at events in Sui-No-Sato. So Narail Syder was born Naru Flameweaver.

Buuuuut because she immigrated with her mom to eorzea she never learned how to like. Flame weave. She doesn't know how. And returning to Sui-No-Sato in stormblood fucking SUCKS for her, she meets family she didn't want to see and those she was close with when she was a child. But like shits changed. And she doesn't want to be close to this place and it's culture that rejected her and her mom all those years ago.

However however (yes I know I'm not done yet I'm so sorry), I wanna say sometime post shadowbringers her mother made her an outfit that was like. Very Sui-No-Sato, very cultural and it really moved her? Like it was something her side of the family was never supposed to wear, only make. And yet her mother made it for her, and while she doesn't wear it often, the ribbon that was made is almost always in her hair (like actually that one glam piece I always use lol)
