Experience is wildly individual and varies widely from person to person but I cannot begin to explain how fucking weird temporal lobe epilepsy is. Earlier today my field of vision was awash in a "filter" where everything was out of focus, ever-so-slightly shifted out of frame, "colored out of the lines" so to speak, and also saturated in the sickly mad-scientist-concoction acid green and pimp-suit royal purple hues you associate with "a mardi gras king cake themed plastic beaded curtain in a 70s soft porn flick, if you were watching it high." Then I smelled fire and potpourri and my brain played a cacophonous, atonal remix of Nanne (Swedish) and Zaz (French) louder and louder until it sang through my nerves (I still have NO language for this sensation) and I had a Jacksonian march and then threw up. Whole thing ~5 mins

Eurovision 2005 - Number 16 - Cecilia Vennersten - "Var mig nära"
youtube
Cecilia Vennersten appeared at Melodifestivalen twice, with a ten year gap in between. Her first go, in 1995, resulted in second place and a huge hit across Sweden and Norway. Earlier in her career, in the mid-1990s, she had a sort of partnership with the members of One More Time (including Nanne Grönvall) who wrote most of her hits.
At some point in the late 1990s, that partnership dissolved and the hits dried up. Cecilia was still recording but it appears very few people were listening. For several years, there was nothing. 2005 was the year Cecilia decided to try a comeback. There was an album being worked on, but before then - why not Melfest?
Her song was Var mig nära (Be Close to Me), a gentle pop-ballad. It begins with a guitar motif that turns out to be the melody of the chorus. It's filled with intrigue, a touch of mystery and vistas of tractless skies, heavens filled with eternal quirks and novelty ready to be explored. The bridge is even better - like crossing a threshold into the place of wonderment. It feels like an exploration and the possibility of endless enchanting fascinations.
But it turns out that the song is about missing a loved one who's passed away. A song of mourning and grief, and a little bit of desperate heartsickness. The verses are more wistful, while the choruses are pleading with fates and Cecilia bewailing her situation. It's written by Calle Kindbom and Robert Åhlin. Calle especially is a well-known Swedish pop songwriter, with many hits to his name, including Sweden's 2003 Eurovision entry.
It's a competent song replete with shifts in tone and mood which Cecilia sings beautifully while surrounded by the oximating clouds of mysticality and despair. That disjoint between the enticing melody and the lyrics pondering death and loss though. I don't know if it's the song which sounds slightly too euphoric, or if Cecilia is too composed and assured in her performance, or if all that dry ice is making this look like living on top of a fluffy cloud, but this really doesn't feel like a song about someone dealing with loss.
The end result is a performance that teeters between the abyss and the heavens desperately trying not to commit to either, strait-jacketed into stiffness in a particularly Swedish way, as if IKEA sold flat-packed grief.
The Swedish public didn't take to it. Var mig näre finished eighth and last in heat one of Melfest and Cecilia's comeback was dead in the water. That album was released in 2006 without this track, but didn't do well anyway. Despite the big names of Sweden's schlager industry pulling for Cecilia, she didn't go a big as her voice deserved.

Part 1 I Part 2
After Rosalie got home again she had gone straight to her bed and stayed there, angry at the other children, herself, her parents and the world at large.
"Rosie?" Teresa's voice brougth Rosalie out of her reverie as she felt the weight of the bed shift, "Are you unwell?"
"Go away!"
"What's wrong?"
"Nothing, leave me alone!" Rosalie tried to bury her head into the pillow to block out her sister. "I don't want to talk to anyone."
"Oh, well, in that case," Teresa said with a shrug, "I suppose we'll have to send Nanne in instead."
Rosalie shot up, angry at her sister for joking when she was in such a bad mood.
"Stop it!"
"Maybe he'll just gobble you right up!" Teresa said and pulled Rosalie into a hug, rubbing the top of her head.
Despite her anger Rosalie couldn't help but laugh at her sister's antics, even though she wanted to stay angry.
"Stop!" She tried to wiggle free, "Teresa!"
She finally managed to pull free by tickling Teresa, causing her to let go and laugh.
"Stop, stop!" She giggled, "I yield!"
"Ha!" Rosalie said, "That's what you get. I win!"
"Alright, alright," Teresa said, catching her breath, "You win. And you look much happier for it already."
Rosalie paused, realising she had stopped thinking about her anger while Teresa had been teasing her.
"Teresa?" She said, suddenly serious, "Are you my friend?"
"Why, of course I am," Teresa said, taken aback, "I'll always be your friend."
"Do you promise?"
"I promise."

*The Sentinel‘s many tongues licked over his eyes with a smacking sound, his antlers shifting again nervously.*
It’s amusing because you are probably the most powerful being in all the universes, Keeper of Doors. You have the ability to move between all timelines and you can close down realities as you please.
In many ways you are closer to us than your kind. And yet, you decided to serve and help … to serve a king and to help a human. You even made a pact with that mage.
*Yicth‘ararc tilted his skull and let it snap back in place with a rattling sound.*
Of course I could relocate Ituith’ryiel into another medium. But it probably wouldn‘t end good. The wise man that was Ituith’ryiel’s first medium suffered from severe depersonalization after the Sentinel was removed. You don’t want to hear what he did to himself in the end. So, it definitely would be a risk for the sailor, even if the connection is not fully established yet.
But with this experience in mind, the personality change is immediate and permanent. They just have to stop to psychologically deny the entity inside and the change will happen. And when it happened they are bound to fight the Yadujh‘ol wherever they encounter them.
*Solomon looked at Barbatos and shook his head slightly, secretly signaling the butler that he didn’t fully believed the creature. The Sentinel however suddenly lifted his head as if he listened to a distant sound. He then gave a hissing sound.*
Oh my, it seems, the sailor has to decide soon. The Yadujh‘ol currently overrun their civilization. There won't be much left when they're done.
*⚓️*
Nann, the Explorer
I am not as powerful as you may believe... and I very much prefer to assist and help then use my powers. I find it far more fulfilling than whatever else I may be able to do.
*He didn't know what to do at all, solomon said he wasn't telling the full truth but even if that was true could he really risk nann on that. He tried to think of something but he wasn't someone who made such big choices. He looked over to Lord Diavolo and solomon*

Everlark #46
Okay, this took much longer than I’d hoped, but that’s because every time I thought I was finished, something new popped into my head and I had to include it, so it’s also much longer than I’d anticipated. But, here it is, @mandelion82! I hope you enjoy! I’m thinking of continuing it too, so stay tuned! Also going to post it on AO3. :)

Everlark 46: nanny/single parent au
The Nanny/Babysitter/Minder
When Katniss Everdeen placed an ad looking for a nanny to care for her five-year-old daughter Cassie, the gorgeous blond, blue-eyed specimen of a man standing on her front porch was not exactly what she had in mind.
“Can I…help you? Sir?” she asked, trying to wipe the puzzled expression off her face when she opened the door.
He smiled, his hands shoved in the front pockets of his dark wash jeans, looking slightly puzzled himself. “I’m Peeta. Peeta Mellark? I emailed you about the nanny position for your daughter? We agreed I’d come over to meet her at one o’clock today?” he replied. His eyes flickered to the side at the sound of a car horn behind him on the busy street, then flicked back to Katniss while he waited for her response.
Flustered that Peeta was apparently a man’s name and not an old woman’s like she’d assumed, (Why had she assumed that? What could have it been short for? Petunia? Come on, Katniss) she hesitated and then said, “oh, yes, of course. Um, please, come in,” stepping aside to let the subtly muscular man walk past her and into the hallway.
Hesitating again, she decided to throw caution to the wind and continue with the appointment with this man, Peeta. She hadn’t received any other responses to the ad she’d placed two weeks prior, and she was getting desperate. Her surgery schedule had changed at the hospital, thanks to crotchety Chief Abernathy who didn’t care about her childcare woes, and she needed to find someone to pick Cassie up from school until her current shift rotation changed again in a few months’ time. If it changed. Knowing Abernathy, he’d keep her on this schedule indefinitely.
“Cassie? Can you come out please sweetheart, there’s someone I’d like you to meet,” she called down the hall.
She motioned for Peeta to proceed into the living room as a tiny pixie of a girl came bounding down the hall and into the room, her dark brown hair in two messy braids down her back. “Mama, I was playing,” she whined, but stopped and stared, wide-eyed at the blond man standing in front of her. “Who are you?” she asked, curiously.
“Cassie honey, I told you we’d be meeting your new nann-err…your….baby-um…your…minder…today. Remember?” hastily fumbling over what to call Peeta. “This is Mr. Mel-um, Peeta.”
“Hi Mr. Peeta,” Cassie whispered, peering up at him shyly as her little mouth curling into a smile.
Peeta knelt down in front of Cassie and held out his hand. “Hello Miss Cassie, it’s very nice to meet you. You can call me just Peeta, though, if you’d like,” he replied, gently smiling at the girl. “I’m looking forward to getting to know you better, I hope.”
“Cassie, why don’t you tell Peeta about school? Cassie just started grade one. Peeta, can I get you something to drink?” asked Katniss, starting towards the kitchen. She needed to put some distance between herself and this gorgeous man. Needed to catch her breath and steady herself – it had been a while since she’d been around anyone who made her feel so flustered. She was usually so calm and cool-headed; she needed to be, being an orthopedic surgeon and all. When Peeta didn’t reply right away, she turned to face him and found him staring straight at her.
“I’m fine, thank you,” he replied, his eyes warm as he looked at her for a beat longer than normal, before turning his focus back to her mini-me sitting before him on the floor. She could feel the heat from his brief gaze go straight to her core. She shivered and spun on her heel, swiftly walking to the kitchen. What was that? As she poured herself a glass of water, she gave herself a mental shake before gulping it down and returning to the living room to sit and observe.
As Katniss watched the two interact on the floor, her initial hesitations began to melt away. Peeta was patient, attentive and gentle with her sweet girl, listening to her talk about her dolls, how much she wanted a cat (Katniss refused - she and felines did not get along) and how nice her kindergarten teacher Mr. Cinna was. Peeta asked her questions about her favourite colour (purple, but also green, like Mama) what she wanted to be when she grew up (a veterinarian) and her favourite flavour ice cream (Rocky Road).
After 45 minutes had passed and the two seemed thick as thieves, Katniss’s worries were gone. Her desperation to find someone to look after Cassie while she was at work had melted away as she watched Cassie, normally a shy, reserved little girl, open up and giggle at the gentle man who made silly faces and showed her pictures of his cat, Cupcake (she could’ve scolded him for that - she didn’t need Cassie getting any more ideas about wanting a cat.) Occasionally, she’d laugh softly at something one of them would say, and she’d catch Peeta’s eye when he’d glance at her and smile warmly, his dimples dusting his cheeks.
With her ex Gale no longer in the picture, and her mother and sister living two states away, she didn’t have any family support. Peeta seemed to be the answer to her prayers, judging from how quickly he and her daughter got along. Plus…he wasn’t hard on the eyes. Stop lusting after the hired help, Katniss. Get it together.
After some more time had passed, Katniss looked at her watch and said, “Well, I think we’ve taken up enough of Peeta’s time, Cassie, and you have to get ready to head out to your singing lesson too,” said Katniss, standing up and motioning to her daughter to go to her room and get ready. “Why don’t you brush your teeth, use the bathroom and get your sheet music from your bedroom while I talk to Peeta?”
“But I don’t haveta use the bathroom, Mama,” Cassie grumbled. She didn’t make any moves to get up from her spot on the floor next to Peeta, who smartly stayed silent as he watched the mother and daughter talk.
“You will as soon as we get in the car and by then it’ll be too late. Go, please, missy,” replied her mother, sternly.
Peeta stood up from where he’d been sitting crossed legged on the floor with Cassie and dipping into a deep bow, offered her his hand to pull her up. “May I be of service to the young lady and help her up?” His eyes twinkled as she giggled again and placed her little hand in his, letting him easily pull her to her feet. “Will I see you again, Mr. Peeta?” she asked shyly, glancing at her mother before turning back to him.
“I would like that, Miss Cassie. How about I chat with your mama while you get ready? It’s a good idea to listen to her - she knows best,” he replied gently.
Cassie huffed, but turned and bounded out of the room, the chorus of “Let It Go” echoing down the hall as she went.
Peeta chuckled and shook his head amusedly, shoving his hands in his front pockets, adopting his stance from earlier. He turned his gaze to Katniss once again, his piercing blue eyes warm and kind. Before she could speak, Peeta beat her to it.
“She seems like a wonderful little girl, Mrs. Everdeen. I’d be happy to look after her for you when needed,” he said. “I can provide a list of references and my child CPR certification if you’d like. I mean, if you’d like me to...if you’d like t-to hire me?” He stuttered, watching her face spread into a wide, amused smile.
“It’s Dr. Everdeen, actually. Ms. Dr. Everdeen, really. I’m not married. Ever. Haven’t ever been married. I mean, not that that matters, I’m jus-I mean Cassie’s father and I weren’t married, we were just together, but he’s not around anymore, he-” what was wrong with her? She was a top-notch surgeon; a strong, independent woman, raising a child on her own. Why was she so tongue-tied around this man? She took a deep breath and said, “Katniss is fine. And your references and other files would be great. Could you email them to me please?”
Amused by her stuttered response that mirrored his own, Peeta replied, “Okay. Katniss it is, and yes, I’ll send them over today.” He seemed relieved that she was as nervous as he was.
After they discussed hours and rate of pay, the one questions that had been nagging in the back of her mind finally couldn’t be left unasked. “Why do you want this job?” She blurted.
Mortified, she continued before he could even open his mouth. “Sorry, it’s just...when I placed the ad, I expected to find an old, grandmother-type woman. Not a young, handsome guy. I mean-I just...I haven’t come across a lot of male...nannies,” she trailed off, embarrassed by her word choice. Did I just call him handsome? To his face? Oh god, I wish I could bury MY face in my hands right about now.
Peeta shifted somewhat uncomfortably from one foot to the other before replying. “That’s a fair question, I guess. I work in my family’s bakery in the mornings, but my day is finished by noon. I wanted something to fill the rest of my days and I love kids – I have a niece and nephew who are just the greatest, I love spending time with little people that age, they’re so inquisitive and honest. I’ve actually thought about going back to school to become a teacher – I mean, I haven’t ruled it out yet, I’m only twenty-six, that’s not too old. Plus, I thought about how much of a struggle it must be sometimes to be a single parent and if I have the ability and capacity to help someone out, well, then I want to do that.” He realized he was rambling a bit and flushed with embarrassment. “Is that weird? I just thought I’d combine helping people and kids and...well, here I am. Here we are.”
“Here we are indeed,” mused Katniss, staring at him wonderingly. “That seems like as good a reason as any, I suppose.” She started to turn away but stopped and looked at him once again. “And I do appreciate the help, by the way…can you start Monday?” Her lips curved into a small smile, Peeta beamed back at her, this time his dimples on full display.
“Great! Yes, Monday’s great. Okay. Good. I think this will be...great. I’ve said great a lot. I’ll stop,” said Peeta sheepishly, running his hand through his messy blond curls. His face flushed bright red again, a shade Katniss found endearing.
Before she could respond again, Cassie came bounding down the hallway, her teeth clean and music bag in tow. “I’m ready, Mama! Mr. Peeta, so will I see you again?” She asked hopefully, peering up at her new friend once again.
Peeta glanced at Katniss, who smiled and nodded, before replying to Cassie. “You will! I’ll be there to pick you up from school on Monday. I have a very serious question for you though, Miss Cassie. Are you ready to hear it?” Her brow furrowed as she nodded slowly. “Do you like to have fun?” She little face broke out into a grin as she nodded again, more enthusiastically this time. “Well good,” he continued. “Because we’re going to have lots of it.”
Hearing her child break out into giggles again melted her heart and stirred something inside her. Looking at Peeta, she met his intense gaze with one of her own, grateful for this kind man to care for the more important person in her life.
“Well, it’s time to go, sweetheart. Peeta, thank you so much again. We’ll be chatting before Monday to go over the rest of the particulars,” said Katniss, ushering Cassie out the front door and turning to Peeta once again. As he moved past her to go through the front door, his hand lightly pressed against the small of her back to step around her, and Katniss felt the heat of his touch through her coat. It spread from her back throughout her body, right down to her toes. She froze as he passed through the door and hopped down the steps, turning back to look at her and flashed his dimples once again. Oh my. This is going to be interesting…
“I’ll speak to you very soon, Katniss. Cassie, I’ll see you Monday afternoon!” he called, cheerfully as he waved and headed to his car.
“I like Mr. Peeta, Mama. He’s nice. And he has a cat!! Do you think he can bring Cupcake over to play with me sometime?” Cassie babbled as Katniss strapped her into her seat, her mind replaying the memory of Peeta’s touch on her back over and over. She flushed again, thinking of how close his muscular body had to hers been when he walked by, how his blue eyes sparkled when he stared at her, how his dimples seemed to make an appearance when he beamed at her….how his ass looked when he bent over to help Cassie up...
Oh no. She was in trouble.
A young, hot, (she has to admit he was hot, there was no denying it) kind, patient man was going to be looking after her child and thus very, very involved in her life for the unforeseeable future. This would be interesting indeed…

Ras held Nann close, relief flooding through him. "its OK, I'm just glad I got here in time." He didn't care that he was drenched or could taste that weird tea mixed in with spring water. The fact that Nann was breathing, alive. That was most important. He smiled softly at Nann. "I came out of the vision and you weren't there, so I went looking for you. I found you in the spring facedown in the water. You weren't breathing… I hope I didn't hurt you…" a soft blush appeared and he looked away shyly. "I'm sorry about your coat. I'll try and fix it, though I'm a crappy fixer." He gently rubbed her back, worried she was cold. "Rowana?" Ras looked around but there was no sign of the shaman. He frowned, the pot was still there, her blanket too. Ras grabbed it and wrapped Nann inside it. "you might feel sore but when Arianna is awake, she can heal your ribs." He gave her shoulder a light squeeze. Captain Alardice was next to wake. He looked exhausted and immediately turned to the human Doctor. She eventually stirred looking just as drained." Are you two OK?" Ras asked. It seemed that everyone had been through a tough spirit walk. It took almost an hour for Arianna to come around. "w-where?" she spoke quietly as she sat up. In her arms was a small white rabbit. A look of utter surprise on her face. "you came with me little one." she cuddled the little rabbit. "He's my spirit guide." Ras was worried, Arianna looked dazed. He knew her father would execute him if he found out anything had happened. He would have gone to her but Nann… she needed help more. "Arianna can you heal Nann? She has a couple of broken ribs…" Arianna walked over and sat down next to Nann. The little rabbit hopped onto her shoulder. She began to glow a soft blue white light. Touching Nann lightly on the forehead, the blue power spread into Nann's body healing any aches, pains and damage. Nann didn't know it neither did Arianna but her power was pushing Ituith’ryiels form. It was as if her magic was trying to repel him from Nann's body, causing him pain. It wasn't powerful enough to force him out but it was a worrying thing. A thing best kept to himself. The temptation might seduce Nann into forcing him out and reclaiming her body.
Nann listened to Ras, slowly shaking their head. They couldn’t quite remember what had happened, they just remembered that awful stench, that had been part of their vision. They tried to inhale against their aching lungs, but immediately a new pain now shot through their chest and caused them to groan. This was a side effect of them muting Ituith’ryiel. He could keep pain on a tolerable level, but right now, he was sent into downtime. As a result, talking for Nann was painful and only possible with short and flat breaths.
*I guess, … you broke me a rib or two. But … don’t fret. I am alive … thanks to you.
They saw Ras‘ concern in his eyes and couldn’t help but smile, putting a hand on his cheek.
*Don‘t worry … over a ragged … piece of clothing.*
*Inside them, Ituith‘ryiel growled, since he was still able to receive impulses from outside and he didn’t like this at all. But moreover he was worried what kind of creature had attacked the both of them. He knew that Nann currently didn’t remember the full vision and for now he decided to keep it that way.
While Ras wrapped Nann with the blanket and talked to them, the now awakened Captain Alardice helped the clearly overstrained Dr. Kirkham. They leaned heavily onto one another like a couple plagued by a severe hung over.
*Yes, Ras, we‘re alright. Definitely exhausted but alright. Where’s Lady Arianna?
Captain Alardice looked around and found her lying near the still weakly fuming pot. He stepped at her side, followed by Dr. Kirkham, who checked her pulse and shifted her position into something more comfortable, while a little rabbit was sitting on her chest and not moving an inch from her. Dr. Kirkham didn't even dare to question about that animal. The Captain looked at Ras and gave him a reassuring nod, signaling him that he would have a look after Arianna until she wake. Dr. Kirkham then came looking after Nann, while the Captain looked around with a questioning look.
*Where’s that shaman?*
As soon as Arianna woke, Captain Alardice helped her up and walked her to Nann and Ras, making sure she wasn’t too exhausted and would eventually fall. As Arianna sat beside Nann to heal them, Captain Alardice got restless and began to look around for the shaman. Nann wasn’t excited about all this attention, but they were deeply grateful as the pain in their chest slowly faded under Arianna‘s soothing magic. Little did they new, that their fading pain caused Ituith’ryiel to scream in vain within the back of their mind, letting out a sound no mortal would have survived. The magic of the female elf burnt on his shiny skin like fire, making him withdraw even deeper into Nann’s mind.
He knew it, he knew that these elves were dangerous. Dangerous for him and his connection and under no circumstances would he allow them to separate him from this world. Not after what happened in that vision.
Ituith’ryiel snarled again, but he would keep calm for now, since Nann didn’t notice how this magic affected him. However, he silently swore that he would use the next best chance to get rid of both of these elves, even if it meant to go against Nann’s wishes.
While Nann’s condition slowly improved, Arianna seemed gonget more and more exhausted. As soon as Nann could stand on their own again, they Ras and Dr. Kirkham helped to steady Arianna to let her rest. A loud voice startled them. Captain Alardice called harshly for the doctor as he had found the limp body of the shaman behind a rock in a pool of presumably her own blood.

New Orleans
"Have you found her?" - Klaus asked as he finally got Elijah on the phone.
"No. There is no sign of her anywhere.- Elijah replied to his brother holding a post it in his hands.
"She can't have dropped of from the face of the Earth"- Klaus said.
Flashback
a couple of months earlier
Elijah walked in the bedroom and found a post- it on the mirror-
"I am done. It's over"- it said.
"No."- Elijah said and rushed out of the bedroom, taking his phone and pressed the speed-dial.
"It's Elena's phone. Leave a message."- the voicemail said.
"Elena, please, you got it all wrong. Please. Call me."
¤
In Germany
A coffee shop
"Are you coming with us Elena?"- Bonnie said to her friend.
"No. I am going to go home, and work on my story."- Elena replied.
"Ok. I will see you later."- Bonnie said and then took of with her Italian boyfriend Damon Salvatore.
Elena, took out her tablet from the bag and as she wanted to press the app to see the notifications and how many likes her story got, she pressed the gallery button and there it was. The picture she didn't really want to see. The picture of her husband Elijah.
And like the song that came on the radio, this is what Elena still felt about the guy that hurt her so badly.
¤
"I really hate seeing Elena so hurt."- Bonnie said-"she just goes to work and sits in front of her tablet."
"We promised we will not interfere."- Damon said.
"I know. We promised."- Bonnie said.
"What about we break that promise?"- Damon said.
"No. We promised. Behave!"- Bonnie shot a serious look at her boyfriend.
"Ok. No more Elena drama. What are we going to do after the drink?"
"I thought we go clubbing. I have a day off tomorrow, so we can party, party, party."
***
Next day In the morningBonnie's apartment
Elena made coffee and breakfast. She sat down at the little kitchen table, her mind wandering away to the day that cut her heart.
Flashback
Elena shook her head and now took a deep sigh.
At the same time, in New Orleans, Elijah couldn't sleep. Elena was constantly on his mind. He tried hard to find out from all her friends where she could be. None of them could give him the answer.
He flashed back now to that day and the post-it message, and the day that Celine had kissed Elijah. In a conversation with Alex, it was revealed that she had seen Elena come to the hospital and that she and her nearly bumped at one another and that Elena took the taxi.
Flashback
"I didn't kiss, Celine. She kissed me. I have not had anything with her. I broke up with her even before I met Elena."- Elijah said to his brother, who was there and Alex, his old college friend.
"But then you did have a thing with Gia."- Klaus reminded his brother.
"Yes, but Elena and I then just started to get to know one another. We were not dating. We just- had one kiss."
"Yes. Ok. But, you and Celine had a really important history. You started the Medical Center. You have asked her to marry you."
"Yes, because she got pregnant. It was the right thing to do."- Elijah said-"but you know what had happened and then it all kind of fizzled."
"Yes. But none of you told any of it to Elena."- Alex said-"well not the whole story."
"I married Elena. I love her. Only her."- Elijah said.
He now remembered their first kiss.
Back in Germany
"Hey" - Bonnie appeared in the kitchen with a massive hangover.
"Hey"- Elena said-"You had a good night."
"Oh, God, it was mad. But I really needed to unwind."
"You really did."- Elena said.
"What about we do something today. Go shopping, go to that street festival."- Bonnie suggested taking a pancake Elena made.
"I have a shift this afternoon."
"Elena, come on, you can change it. Nanne said that you can do it anytime."
"I just - don't feel like shopping."- Elena said.
"Ok. I didn't want to say - I totally get that you need time, space, but seriously - this is not good. You can't keep being shut like that. It's not good. It's not good for you or the baby."
Elena got teary and looked down at her belly.
"I know. I know, but - it's - I can't. I just can't - HUH, I was so happy when I found out that I was pregnant, and the first thing was to go to the hospital and tell him. I couldn't wait for him to get home - and there - I saw them kiss- and - the way he looked after her- like - "
"Like - what-"
"It was like this longing look."
Bonnie just huffed sympathetically.
"Exactly."- Elena said-"it's like - he still wanted her."
"And what if it was - this goodbye kiss from her like he said."
"If she kissed him only, why didn't he just move away- no- he didn't. Ahhhh! I worked with her and - all these months none of them said a thing that they were together" - Elena huffed away.
"But wasn't that before you came to work in the Medical Center?"
Elena put her head in her hands and then looked at her friend-
"Huh, this is what you get when you just fall for guy blindly. They all said that he is a charmer."
"But he married you, Elena. That counts for something."
"Yeah, on a crazy vacation in Mexico."- Elena said-"how could I think that this could work?"
"That's it. We are going out. No more moping around. Enough. I am going to shower and get ready."- Bonnie was adamant.
💘
Elsewhere, Damon's apartment
The phone buzzed and Damon grunted unhappily as he was not ready to face the world. He took his phone and not looking at the display, answered-
"What?"
"Hello to you, too."- Stefan said.
"Hey bro. What's up?"- Damon replied.
"I changed my flight and I will be arriving this afternoon. I am at the airport now."- Stefan said.
"Ok."- Damon said still not opening his eyes-"you know the address?"
"No. Just send me the details."
"Ok. See you."- Damon said.
"Yeah, see you."- Stefan said back and hung up.
Damon tossed his phone away, but a message alert came through and he now looked at it.
'Elena and I are going to the Street festival. She is really down. Later. Bon. XO"
Damon replied with 'Later. Xo" 💘
***
Bonnie's idea to take Elena to the street festival thing was a great idea. Elena relaxed a bit, and after a long while, she actually felt somewhat better.
"Thanks for this. I really had a good time."- Elena said to her friend.
"So happy I could help. Ok. Let's go and eat something."- Bonnie suggested and soon they found a nice bistro and sat down.
"I am going to the toilets."- Elena said and got up.
As Elena went to the rest room, Bonnie took her phone. She opened the contact list and searched for Elijah's phone number. She pressed the speed-dial.
"Hey, Elijah. It's Bonnie. Look, I am sorry I - never mind. Elena is here, with me. I am in Cologne, Germany."
"She is with you?? Why didn't you tell me when I called you."
"Because she asked me not to. And we have this friendship loyalty thing that I am so breaking it now, and she is going to kill me, but if you love her the way you say you do, you should get here. Ok. She is coming back to the table. I need to go. I will send you details."- Bonnie said and hung up.
"Bonnie, wait- "- Elijah said, but Bonnie was gone.
"What is it?"- Alex asked-"Who is Bonnie?"
"Elena's best friend. She lives in Germany. Ahm, Elena is with her."- Elijah's face lit up-"I should have known. I am so stupid. Of course, she would go there."
"Right. I guess you are taking days off. I can cover for you."- Alex said.
"You would do that for me? Take extra shifts?"
"I will take all your shifts, as long as you get Elena back and stop your brooding and your endless moods about how you messed up the best thing that has ever happened to you."- Alex said.
Elijah's message alert tone went off and he now opened the message icon. It was Bonnie with the details with her address.
"Thank you, ok- I got to go and book some tickets."- Elijah swooped out of the surgeons' lounge.
The next morning

A Vessel for the Future – Highly Commended at MIPIM/AR Future Project Awards 2021
The Floating Office in the Rotterdam harbor:
Highly Commended in the Offices category, FOR is the world’s largest floating office. Its timber structure not only dramatically reduces its carbon footprint but it also allows it to be completely reusable. Without adhesives, FOR is held together with nuts and bolts, meaning that it’s completely demountable and can be reassembled 1:1 on another location.
‘With this building we want to show that architecture can take the initiative in solving climate-related threats.’

Powerhouse Company completes two pavilions at Station Haarlem, The Netherlands
The craftsmanship of a retail pavilion
At the train station of Haarlem,The Netherlands, underneath the historical roofed gallery, Powerhouse Company designed two retail pavilions, one for Starbucks and one for Broodzaak, a Dutch chain for take-away sandwiches, coffee and snacks. With the arrival of the pavilions the site retrieves its original function as an area for meeting and waiting.
photo : Christian van der Kooy
Powerhouse Company was asked by NS Stations, the biggest Dutch railway company, to design two pavilions underneath the roof that will answer to 21st century requirements, but will keep the historical character of the location. The train station of Haarlem, as one of the oldest stations in the Netherlands, has an elegant design in the style of Art Nouveau, with a perfect balance between architecture, art and craftsmanship.
photo : Christian van der Kooy
The large roofed gallery, situated in front of the station, was originally used to provide shelter to carriages and later to many travelers. Due to the dynamic square in front of the station, it was a not logical to leave the space underneath the roof empty, but the historical value makes an all enclosing facade undesirable as well.
The design is based on the precise placing of the two pavilions underneath the roof, keeping the original space coherent and maintaining the idea of a covered square. The facades are based on the formal language of the train station with its authentic waiting rooms, characterized by the use of stone and wood.
The typical wooden frames at the station have been translated into the facade design of the pavilions. The details of wood, brass, glass and stone together form a sleek and fully flush facade, and creates an abstract representation of the existing wooden structures at the train station. The architectural design shows a 21st century version of craftsmanship through wood, glass and stone.

Tuesday round-up
This morning the court will hear argument in two of its highest-profile cases this term: Trump v. Mazars and Trump v. Vance, President Donald Trump’s efforts to shield his financial records, including his tax returns, from subpoenas issued to his accountant and lenders by a New York grand jury and three congressional committees. Amy Howe previewed the cases for this blog, in a post that first appeared at Howe on the Court. Philip Duggan and Robert Reese Oñate preview Mazars at Cornell Law School’s Legal Information Institute, and Sean Kealy has a preview at Subscript Law. Zora Franicevic and Connor Grant-Knight provide Cornell’s preview of Vance, and Jim Wheaton previews the case for Subscript Law.
Nina Totenberg reports for NPR that “[h]ow the court decides these cases could dramatically change the balance of power among the three branches of government, thus shifting the American system of checks and balances.” For The Wall Street Journal (subscription required), Jess Bravin reports that, “[w]hile contending that Congress can’t seek information regarding potential crimes under the guise of legislative oversight, in the companion case Mr. Trump’s lawyers say that states are powerless to investigate him for possible violations of their own laws.” At The Economist’s Espresso blog, Steven Mazie notes that “[p]recedent is not friendly to Mr Trump’s plea[:] When Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton faced other predicaments involving the separation of powers, the Supreme Court decided against both, unanimously.” Joan Biskupic, at CNN, highlights “six things to watch for” in today’s arguments.
At Justia’s Verdict blog, Rodger Citron suggests that the critical question is “which Chief Justice John Roberts will show up.” Commentary on Vance comes from David Boyle at Boyle’s Laws. At The Atlantic (via How Appealing), Quinta Jurecic argues that, ”[a]s it was during the Russia investigation, and during the impeachment proceedings, the core of Trump’s claim is: Everything I do is beyond questioning; everything you do deserves the closest scrutiny.” The editorial board of The Wall Street Journal writes that “Mr. Trump won’t be President forever, and the Court will have to reflect on how its decisions will affect America’s political institutions amid hyper-partisanship that won’t end when a Democrat takes the White House.”
This blog’s analysis of yesterday’s oral argument in Our Lady of Guadalupe School v. Morrissey-Berru, in which the considered the scope of the “ministerial exception” to federal employment discrimination laws, come from Amy Howe, in a post that first appeared at Howe on the Court. Mark Walsh reports for Education Week’s School Law Blog that the justices “spent more than 90 minutes of oral arguments over the telephone Monday wrestling with where to draw the line between employees of religious schools who will remain protected by civil rights law and those who will not because they are considered ministers of the faith.” Nina Totenberg and Krishnadev Calamur report at NPR that “[t]he Supreme Court’s conservative majority signaled Wednesday that it is on the verge of carving out a giant exception to the nation’s fair employment laws.” At Fox News, Ron Blitzer and Bill Mears report that “[c]onservative justices appeared to believe the issue is too murky for the court to decide how religious organizations should define religious roles.” David Savage reports for the Los Angeles Times that “[t]he argument featured a new twist on an old doctrine[:] In recent decades, conservatives have shunned the phrase ‘separation of church and state’ because they associated it with the liberal era when the justices struck down prayers in public schools and barred state aid for children in parochial schools[, b]ut a lawyer representing the Catholic schools in Los Angeles led off Monday’s argument by citing that principle.” At the Constitutional Law Prof Blog, Ruthann Robson writes that, although “the ministerial exemption as rooted in the free exercise and establishment clauses of the First Amendment originally excepted only ‘ministers,’ there is a chance that it will be broadened to include all – – – or almost all – – – employees at religious organizations.”
At Bloomberg Law, Jordan Rubin reports that “[q]uestions asked by Justice Neil Gorsuch” during yesterday’s argument in McGirt v. Oklahoma, which asks whether Oklahoma had jurisdiction to prosecute crimes committed by an Indian within the historical boundaries of the Creek reservation in eastern Oklahoma, “suggest he’s skeptical of the Oklahoma government’s stance against tribes and a criminal defendant in a hugely consequential case over the status of American Indian lands.” At Reuters, Lawrence Hurley reports that “[s]ome justices including conservative Justice Samuel Alito appeared concerned about the potentially broad ramifications of a ruling backing tribal authority.” Jess Bravin reports for The Wall Street Journal that “[a] ruling could potentially put into question hundreds of criminal convictions from Oklahoma state courts,” and that “the case could have even broader implications, depending on whether the court recognizes tribal sovereignty over land that Washington once promised to Native Americans[:] The legal framework in Tulsa, Okla., and the rest of the region could be affected, including taxing powers and contracts involving tribe members.”
Briefly:
At The Detroit News (via How Appealing), Melissa Nann Burke reports that “Aimee Stephens, the Michigan woman who last year became the first transgender person to have a civil rights complaint heard by the U.S. Supreme Court, might not live to hear whether she won,” because she “is now in stage four renal failure and under hospice care.”
In an op-ed for The Philadelphia Inquirer (via How Appealing), U.S. Court of Appeals Judge Marjorie Rendell offers a judge’s guide to the Supreme Court’s live-streamed arguments, noting that “[w]e are privileged, at least for the time being, to be flies on the wall while the sausage gets made.”
In an op-ed at the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin, Daniel Cotter discusses the latest Supreme Court news.
At Dorf on Law, Michael Dorf pushes back against Justice Clarence Thomas’ originalist critique of the First Amendment overbreadth doctrine in a concurrence last week in United States v. Sineneng-Smith, arguing that “[u]nless and until Justice Thomas abandons the modern First Amendment entirely, one should regard with extreme skepticism his call for the re-examination of specific doctrines–like overbreadth and the rule of NY Times v. Sullivan that he criticized last year.”
At The World and Everything in It (podcast), Mary Reichard discusses the arguments in U.S.. Patent and Trademark Office v. Booking.com, which asks whether the addition of “.com” to a generic term creates a protectable trademark, and Little Sisters of the Poor Saints Peter and Paul Home v. Pennsylvania, a challenge to the federal government’s expansion of the “conscience exemption” to the Affordable Care Act’s birth-control mandate.
We rely on our readers to send us links for our round-up. If you have or know of a recent (published in the last two or three days) article, post, podcast or op-ed relating to the Supreme Court that you’d like us to consider for inclusion in the round-up, please send it to roundup [at] scotusblog.com. Thank you!

Conversation
Conversations with Harper (3)..
7ish AM
[My mother had taken my two children overnight because I was working 3rd shift at that time. Owen had been fussy the night before, and my mom was sleeping in late with him, when Miss Harper wakes up and comes into bedroom]
Harper: Nannnny its time to wake up! *speaking loud, and persistent* Wake up sleeepy head!
Nanny: Harper GO BACK TO BED! Dont you wake up your brother, Nanny is trying to sleep.
Harper: Nooooo nann-
Nanny: *threw clenched teeth* HARPER GO NOW!
[Harper tearfully leaves room as if her world has ended, and my mom drifts back to sleep]
11 am
My mom wakes up and is surprised to have slept in so late, without interuption, and is even more surprised when she finds Harper Jean curled up next to her aunt T sound asleep. She kisses her sweet gum drop nose, and gently whispers to her, thinking about how sad she had been this morning, and she kisses her again.
Nanny: Harper Jean It's time to wake up honey, it's 11 am and we have so much fun stuff to do today!
Harper: *with eyes still closed tight, and little to no expression* I sorry nanny, but remember when I tried waking you up this morning? NOW I'M SLEEPING. Sorry!

BACKSTORY:
I was born in Lyon as the eldest of triplets, the children of British traveller and writer Robert Allard and French model and photographer Élisabeth Tessier.
Less than a year after we were born our father was offered the chance to host a travel programme called The Strider for the BBC. Together with our mother they decided to take me and my siblings on those journeys.
Since then, we have spent more time on the road than in our home in France. Together, we have explored Australia and Northern Europe, both Americas, and a good part of Africa.
Despite the unusual conditions, our parents took great care of our education and development. I had private tuitions, practised ballet and singing, learned to play a few instruments. During those travels, I aslo learnt about the culture and traditions of the countries we visited and learnt a couple of languages.
We have settled in the USA for a few years where my siblings and I finished high school. It was then that I met my best friends to this day; Judy and Kayleigh. I later got into Harvard, where I studied psychology and linguistics.
I got my first role - Gertie in E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial - at the age of six; I went to the audition out of curiosity. Later I also played the young Alia Atreides in Dune, but I didn't tie my future to acting. My love for it was born in the high school drama club. My return in front of the cameras was the 1990 film Millie, but it was with the role of Lex Murphy in Jurassic Park, which I got at the age of seventeen, that I was truly noticed. Other productions followed and with them came increasing success and popularity.
At the beginning of the university, I began to take interest in music - my first album, The Woman Who Love Too Much, was released in 1994 and it quickly became clear that I was as talented an actress as I was a singer.
At age of twenty I move alone to cottage house near Zurich.
LIKES: strawberries, misty and rainy weather, incenses and scented candles, cold pizza, winter mornings, sweets, the sea, spices, nightly baths in the lake, self-care days, the wind in my hair when I'm horse riding, forests, long walks, fireplaces
DISLIKES: arrogant people, feelings of lack of control, violence, hot weather, loud noises, bright and cool light, being sick, small and closed spaces, peanut butter, chlorine smell

Mother of Alyssa, Visenna and Alarrick Blackwood

From the Maester Mellor's chronicles:
That's happend sometimes that the most beautiful among womens is the most fierce of the dragons.
Day first of posting moodboards I made about my family in my Asoiaf DR. And of course this one is about my mother.
She is the very person who raised me to the become who I am now, the one that shaped the world for me and teach me how to do that myself.
She is a great inspiration for me. Since I was a kid I was tring to be as courageous and proud as she is. And even tho I already find my own ways to behave I'm still following her's cue sometimes.
My mother is always with me when I need her and I know she will help me even with the most difficult situations, even by using rather morally dubious measures.
