LEGEND OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL

Down in New Orleans, an artifact known as the "Whisperer", a glass crystal skull believed to grant the one who possesses it with immortality, but not in this case when the last one to obtain the rumored unearthly artifact, Bruno Bolet, is found dead. Meanwhile, the artifact remains missing.

Is his death merely a result of his own mortality? Or is time not the only cause of concern?

Head down to New Orleans for rainy nights and warm gumbo to track down a missing artifact and possibly a murderer.

Cody Fern as Henry Bolet Jr.

Bruno's great nephew, who he had taken in when Henry's parents had died, but with all that time Bruno believed to harness from the crystal skull very little would be spent with Henry, who in Bruno's passing was left to tend to the estate. With a somewhat detached nature to the situation, is it possible he is hiding guilt? or is he simply numb to grief?

Danny Glover as Gilbert Buford

Dr.Buford discovered the body of his late friend, Mr.Bolet, in which he determined the cause of his death natural, Meanwhile he possessed the knowledge that his friend claimed to hold the key to immortality, while harbouring secrets of his own. Did he use his medical position to falsify his cause of death for his own ticking clock?

Catherine O'Hara as Renee Amande

The Housekeeper, who spent a great deal of time in Bruno's presence. With a proclivity for dabbling in the other worldly, and tending to her garden, did she unearth Bruno's secret?

Daniel Curtis Lee as Lamont Warrick

Runs Zeke's Curio shop, with an eye for antiques and strange items. Is it possible the crystal skull caught his eye? Or perhaps it would attract the eyes of buyers to his shop.

I think what surprised me most about the CW’s Nancy Drew was how the show sold the story it was telling. I was so skeptical at first of the paranormal element (especially on a CW show), and yet the show not only fully leaned into it, but also balanced it with very real and complex storylines rooted around diverse human experiences. This combined with the performances from the actors—both individual and as an ensemble—truly draws you in. In fact, the times when the writing may fall flat are almost always offset by performances that shine, as well as the incredible chemistry between the actors. This translates to a chemistry between the characters that feels natural, and it is this element in particular which not only lies at the heart of the show, but drives the story as a whole.

I think Nancy Drew would also have been cool as the sort of show where there's not really a "big plot." Like how in a sitcom where each episode has its own plot and the plots from episode to episode don't connect. (Other than maybe relationships or a subtle overall plot for the season.) I know the writers would have had a TON of fun ideas for a format like that.

Lindas young stepdaughter, a curious nature and a craving for attention, especially for playing games, Knoweldgeable and aware of the Manors secrets, is it possible her love of playing games leaves everyone a pawn in her chess match against her stepmother in hopes of moving back? Or is she simply just homesick?

Lucy Boynton as Ethel Bosinny

Jane's tutor from a long line to the Penvellyn Family. Charming and mysterious, with a close attachment to the Penvellyns. Is it possible she knows their secrets? Or maybe has some of her own?

Fiona Shaw as Mrs. Drake

Janes great-aunt, The housekeeper of the Manor, that she would have owned, if not for the arrival of her nephew and his wife, Linda. Devoted to the manor and keeping it in order. Is it possible she might be trying to scare Linda out, so that she may own the manor once more?

Riz Ahmed as Nigel Mookerjee

A historian with interests close to the Manor and the family that resides, Could he be a confidant? or a keeper of their secrets?

Sally Hawkins as Linda Penvellyn

The current lady of the house, refusing to see anyone, believing she is cursed, what keeps her hidden away? Fear of what's out there? or fear of what others might uncover?

but I also know so much of my ND experience is like... growing up with them? so even if I was an adult when I played some of them the memories of the few I did play in childhood resonate. so maybe kids growing up now will find a lot more value in it. BUT.... they're banking on older fans of the games to carry their company. made obvious by the constant references to older games, and frank/nancy, which is regrettably something I *know* their 25-45 yrs old fanbase goes crazy for. so if they're trying to reignite some of that excitement I think it fails on certain fronts. and it's too expensive if you're a non fan looking for a solid puzzle/mystery solving game. but I'm also selfishly glad it exists and that HerInteractive didn't completely go under, due to the aforementioned nostalgia, and that's admittedly very hypocritical of me to say.

Okay I’m on episode 8 of season 1 of Nancy Drew in my rewatch and I’m still blown away by the acting performances, but especially those of Kennedy and Tunji.
