Roommaarriage
Luffy and Law live togheter.
They started living together after Luffy's older brother, Ace, decided to go on a trip around the world with his friends. Luffy was left alone and besides being terrible at taking care of himself, he hates loneliness.but none of his friends had space for him, already having their own roommates or living with their parents. So, Law proposes that they live together, he lives in a huge house and has a huge crush on Luffy, it doesn't hurt to help the guy he likes, even if it can cause a lot of headaches. and hes right, in less than a week everything is already a mess, Luffy's friends come to visit, everything is noisy and so chaotic in the house that used to always be quiet and peaceful.
Still, he persists, determined not to go back on his decision and simply kick Luffy out of the house. That's when everything gets confusing; Luffy was always clingy and honest with how he felt, but since he moved in with Law, this has become more frequent and more intense. He hugs Law in the morning when he wakes up, kisses him on the forehead to thank him for the food, he carries Law when he decides that Law has to sleep no matter what, he sits on Law's lap when they are watching TV, he goes to the hospital to remember Law of eating and worst of all: he often, all the time, at any time, in any place, on any occasion, tells Law that he loves him. And it just drives Law crazy. He knows it's not a lie, Luffy doesn't lie. Luffy loves him, it's just not the love Law wants it to be
All of their domesticity, all of their intimacy, all of it drives Law crazy. He wants all of it, but he also wants more. He is in love with Luffy and has no idea what to do, after all he doesn't want to just ruin their friendship and lose it all because of his greed. So, after months of freaking out about all this, he decides that what's best for everyone is if he puts some boundaries between them, draws a firm line between them, friendship, something less intimate and less...suggestive. something that allows him to sleep properly at night.
Meanwhile, Luffy is confused, Torao has been acting strangely, moving away from him, not letting him touch him or kiss him, almost like in the beginning, when he moved in and Law was still shy. Could this be what people call problems in paradise? WILL TORAO FILE FOR DIVORCE? And suddenly Law has Luffy's friends calling desperately wanting to know what happened? Why are they getting divorced so soon? Why is Luffy depressed about the end of their marriage? Why is the marriage ending in the first place???
#I present to you: law overthinking as usual#but this time with luffy misunderstanding things#Luffy thinks that living together (with someone you like) = marriage#hes not totally wrong but yeaah#he knows that he likes law and he knows that law likes him so he is convinced that they are married#he convinced everyone around him that he married law#nami: what do you mean by married law? you only live with him#Luffy: I went with him to sign papers and we ate yummy food after that. I kiss him. I take him to work. he makes food for me. we're married#nami: oh i can't argue with that#everyone thinks that because law is very private they had a really simple wedding at the registry office#the 'papers' that luffy signed were the rental agreement#they are totally unmarried#Luffy's idiocy + Law's anxiety#lawlu#one piece lulaw#lulaw#one piece#roommates

Oh gosh here we go again- the peak of my hyper fixation on something where I finally post a theory... SO CROCODILE- (Y'all love this guy on tumblr-)I'm going to be very truthful, this started out as a head cannon which I found evidence for in this theory to bring my idea's to completion, and really ties up my thought process together.
What are the key takeaways? 1. Crocodile specifically Avoids having a ring on ring finger, and this could be because he has a spouse 2. Him having lost them in some way, and Iva knowing about them. But why Iva? And why do I say them? Y'all already know- I'm saying Crocodile is gay, and has a husband, well somewhere out there. This makes logistic sense because well, why Iva becomes answered, but we also have a subtle hint in crocodiles overall design. Firstly
Crocodiles Outfit is surprisingly evocative of the victorian dress. Mostly thanks to the vest and cravat look. Additionally, the victorian era began in 1837, very close to when Cigars became popular. I bring this up partially because I think it's cool, and partially because it allows for some implications to come across, as one piece's world spans socially over several decades in terms of atmosphere and acceptance. Mostly that the victorian era was a time where being LGBTQ+ was still considered taboo. So while most of new kama is living in the times of 1970's to modern day, he is very much living in the victorian era. One revolves around being loud and proud, and the other very much around subtleties. What subtleties does he have? Well. For starters, It's a very- Choice colour with the purple vest there. (this is mostly a joke, although purple is associated with signalling, it's usually a different manner as far as I'm aware.) What I actually want to talk about is the earring. Most characters in one piece Wear double earrings if they are wearing them (I.E. Law, bart, Nami, Blackbeard etc.) For those of you unaware, Earring signalling goes like this. Right is gay, left is straight. I could only find three characters wearing a single earring. 1. Zoro on his left. 2. Benn Beckman on his right (Good for him!/hj) and 3. Crocodile on his right. So with this ramble aside. I think his interactions with Iva and the gays TM make much more sense. He's down with the gays because well. He is. They literally give him an entirely new outfit, just like they do for the rest of the LGBTQ+ people they bring in. And why IVA SPECIFICALLY would know that he is married, as per Iva knowing and being all gay peoples parent (/hj). In all seriousness I think it would make sense in this context that he asked Iva to help with his wedding or something of the like, since he (and presumably his husband) likely didn't have many connections to people who could do wedding stuff non-judgementally I.E. a cake or getting someone to do the vows. It's very wholesome, but it's something that I could see as Crocodile wanting to be kept secret, as he's been characterized as someone very secretive. This part is pure speculation/almost definitely false; but. I could definitely see some sort of "held hostage" situation. As Crocodile said "If you want to protect something, do it right." This could be someone who is protecting something, but also someone who lost it. I mean, they've forced the other warlords into similar corners, with the protection of Amazon Lily, or the release of Arlong (and likewise the safe return of all the escaped slaves from the Sun pirates who just wanted to go home.) It makes the "wanting to have a power that can match the WG or any nation in force" goal of his have a much more interesting reason than "KING OF THE PIRATES." We got enough folks aiming for that already, and I feel like if you beat an early antagonist that badly and just keep using him, you gotta have some kind of pay off that doesn't involve him getting beat again.

@climatact - continued from here.
❝No sense lying around feeling more miserable than you have to.❞ The doctor simply shrugged as he relaxed into the cushions beside her, mindful not to sit on the tiny feet curled hidden beneath her blanket. ❝Here.❞ He took a moment to hand over the nearest throw pillow for better support behind her back before offering both the handful of small white tablets and a drink from his own glass of water. Only with those matters adequately attended to did Law allow himself to lean back and rest his head against the back of the sofa, savoring the quiet moment to rest his eyes following one of the longest, most grueling shifts in the resident’s recent memory.
Restful respites like this had always been something of a rarity in Law’s life, but not until his eyes slid closed and he registered the notable lack of giggling and quiet footsteps echoing throughout the apartment did it occur to the surgeon-in-training that this was likely the first truly quiet moment he’d had since Nami and their daughter had shown up in his life several eventful weeks prior.
For some reason, the thought unnerved him.
❝Cora still at daycare? he asked without opening his eyes. It was more of an effort at small talk than anything: a means of keeping himself from growing too relaxed and comfortable to grow drowsy while he lounged next to her. He’d already done a full reconnaissance of the apartment and determined the three-year-old was nowhere to be found in it – after he’d shaken his head to snap out of it when he’d caught himself watching the redhead slumber. Old habits died hard, it would seem: he’d always loved watching her sleep when she curled up beside him.
But that was not the life they lived anymore, and he’d been glad she hadn’t stirred when he’d entered the apartment. By the time he’d crouched over her, risking drawing the woman’s attention by carefully extracting the forgotten book from her fingers, he’d already done his rounds and pieced together the child’s absence – and married Nami’s unanticipated presence to the box of tampons on his bathroom counter.
She’d roused that time, looking around alertly enough he’d sought to cover his closeness by asking if she was still crampy. Law had made a noise of acknowledgement and strode away toward the kitchen as soon as she’d nodded up at him.
What did she expect him to do? Leave her to her own uncomfortable devices because of everything that had happened between them? Was that what he was supposed to do? Looking after Nami might only complicate matters further, but he’d invited her into his home one way or another: he’d be a sad excuse for a doctor if he let anyone suffer senselessly beneath his own roof.
Not to mention the nagging feeling that had been lurking at the edge of his consciousness since he’d caught sight of that box in his bathroom. For some reason, Law knew he wouldn’t have been able to ignore her pitiful condition if he had tried.
❝I can go and get her if you want to call them.❞

two fights for freedom ~ chapter eighteen: more harm than good
Nami hummed, kicking her feet back and forth. “I have another question.”
“Yeah?”
“Are you going to be my dad?”
All body functions ceased, aside from the pounding in his chest, which echoed in his head. His silence not only urged Nami to speak up again, but convinced her to elaborate.
“I know Mom says a lot of silly things just to make people turn red, but I’ve never seen her actually kiss someone! I thought kissing was what adults do when they love each other. Like a mom and dad.”
Why couldn’t there be a tug on his line. Why couldn’t a single fish in the East Blue come save him.
“I uh…” Rosinante cleared his throat. “Well, we’re…pretending to be married. And people kiss when they’re married.”
“Oh.” Nami shrugged. That was that. “Okay.”
He almost wanted to push. He almost wanted to make sure she was getting the right idea, because he couldn’t have Nami running around with her loud voice, spreading some kind of ridiculous rumor. Falling in love with Bell-mère would be ridiculous. Kissing her out of love would just be ridiculous. A domestic life with her and the kids and the farm was utterly ridiculous!
shaking my fist at this chapter because it made me scrap all my drafts for future chapters. right now i only have up to chapter 20 written out. we're playing with fire. especially since i gotta do some zine work and leftover gifts and art commissions... grrrrr i hate being a pantser

Island Of Young
“So, you're telling me that if we go to this island, we'll meet the younger versions of ourselves. For, what? A pep talk?” “More like so that the younger versions of you can see how much stronger and better they'll become.” “OK. I'm in.” “Uh, Jewel-ya, I don't think that's a good Idea,” Law tried to protest. “Shishishi! Let's go!” Luffy exclaimed in excitement. “We're going then,” Nami announced. “Excuse me?” Law questioned. “Trafalgar, you know how your fiancé and our captain are. Once their minds are made up, that's that. Especially if they agree on it,” Zoro pointed out. Law sighed while pinching the bridge of his nose. “It's sad that that's true. Especially since Jewel-ya isn't the captain of the heart pirates, I am.” “I'm the co captain and you know it,” I teased. What surprised me the most was that he didn't disagree or even argue against it. So, about a week later, we arrived on Youth Island. Almost instantly upon landing and exciting the ships and sub, I noticed the younger versions of everyone except Law and myself. “I don't see myself,” Law commented as we wandered. “Try looking in a mirror,” I responded. “You know what I mean Jewel-ya.” “I'm pretty sure I know where we are. Follow me.” Waking further onto the island, we found a secluded meadow in the middle of a small forest. Spotting two small figures, I nudged Law before motioning up to the trees. He followed me up and we crept closer to the younger version of ourselves who were talking over what appeared to be a thick medical book. “Nerds,” I mumbled quietly. Law nudged my rear with his foot, nearly sending me out of the tree. I sent him a glare and flipped him off. “Hey, Law? Do you think the adult versions of us will actually show? We've been here for three days,” the younger me asked. “Yours will. It's impossible for mine to show up,” little Law responded. “Aw, why do you say that?” “I'm sick. I won't live long enough to grow up. There's no cure either.” “But, but, but there has to be a cure! You can't die yet, you're still so young and there's so much to see and do!” “There isn't, Jewel-ya. My family and island wouldn't have been killed off if there was.” Little me suddenly engulfed little Law in a bear hug. “No! I refuse to let my best friend die so young! I'll make a cure myself!” LJ proclaimed. “You're… you're not afraid of me?” LL asked. “There's nothing scary about you, so no.” “But, most people think I'm contagious.” “Aren't you poisoned?” “In a way, yes.” “Then you're not contagious. Poison is only spread from person to person when they consume the same poisoned substance. Since we haven't, I won't get sick.” “You were pretty smart, Jewel-ya,” Law commented. “What do you mean were? I still am,” I responded. “That's arguable due to some of your choices.” “You mean like asking you to marry me?” “I'll push you out of this tree.” “Try it.” Without hesitation, Law pushed me harshly forward. My arms windmilled for about five seconds before I fell out of the tree. The bastard actually pushed me out of the tree! I thought in surprise. “Hey, who are you?” I heard LL ask. Looking up, I noticed both he and LJ were staring at me. “Hi! I'm Phoenix Jewels, the older version of the little girl there,” I greeted, pointing to the younger me. Her eyes widened before she ran over to hug me with a wide grin on her face. “You actually came!” She exclaimed happily. “Of course I did. I remember when I was your age, things started to go downhill. I figured it would be a good idea to show you that things get better. A lot better.” “Really? How?” Before I could answer, LL spoke up. “Jewel-ya, did...is there an older version of me that came with you?” he asked. I smiled at the small sliver of hope I could see shining in is tired, dark grey eyes. They hadn't gotten to that beautiful silver shade yet, but I knew they would. “Why don't you see for yourself?” Standing up, I walked over to the tree and kicked it. Law fell out of it and hit the ground with a grunt. He sat up and glared at me to which I simply grinned and waved. “Was that really necessary?” he grumbled. “Hey, you pushed me out first, it's only fair.” I argued. “Who are you?” LL asked. “I'm the adult version of you,” Law answered. “But, but how? There's no cure! No doctor even wants to come near me.” “That's true, but also false. There is a cure. It comes in the form of a devil fruit you will eat and use to cure yourself in six more years.” LL was completely stunned. I couldn't blame him though. LJ on the other hand, was ecstatic. “Wow! You get to be a devil fruit user? That's so awesome! What can you do with it? What's it called? What type is it?” “Quite the inquisitive one, weren't you, Jewel-ya?” “Yeah. I grew out of it when people kept getting annoyed by my constant questions though,” I agreed. LJ pouted. “I'm just curious!” She protested. “I know. And it's a trait I love about you,” Law assured. LJ and LL looked baffled by that statement. “What?” They both asked. “Ah, that's actually a tough question to answer,” I responded. “You're blushing, Jewel-ya,” Law teased. “Shush. Well, anyway LJ, thirteen years from now, you'll be living as a kitten with your new friend Fluffy. Before a blizzard can hit the island, you'll both look for shelter. What you'll actually find is a pirate ship. You'll be found by the first mate and taken to the captain who just happens to be Law here.” “Whoa! I'm a pirate captain?” LL exclaimed . “You will be, yes. And I sail a sub, not a ship,” Law answered. “Ooh! A submarine! My favorite mode of aquatic transportation! Aside from swimming of curse.” LJ commented. “Yeah well, after three years on the sub together, you two kinda… Uh… Y-you know…” “Sleep together?” LL suggested. “Among other things.” “Hold on. Jewel, is that a ring on your finger?” LJ asked. “You're married?” I nodded while nervously biting my lip. “Wow! So, is it like you always imagined?” “Better! I mean Law's no prince charming, but who needs that when you have a badass pirate captain/surgeon as your life partner?” “So cool! How'd it go? Was it romantic? Was it sweet? Was it spontaneous? Was it traditional?” “Easy with the questions, LJ!” “Sorry.” “It's alright. To answer your questions in order; no, sort of, it was planned for at least a few hours before hand and not the way you would think.” “Wait. Jewel-ya, why are you answering the questions? Shouldn't the older me be doing that?” LL asked. “That's why I said it wasn't traditional the way you would think.” “You mean you proposed to him?” “Yep.” “I thought the guy was supposed to be the one to propose?” LJ asked. “He doesn't have to be,” Law pointed out. “Although I have wondered, what lead you to take the lead?” “Ah. Well, not much, really. After that incident, I was thinking that it might be nice to live the rest of my life with Law as my partner. However, as pirates I thought no one would be brave enough to actually officiate a wedding. Hell, we've been to islands that ran us off simply because we were pirates. So, I tried to think of a way to be married without it really being legal. At the moment, I had just exited from a candy shop and was eating a ring pop. It gave me an idea so I went back into the shop. After explaining my situation to the shop keep, she gave me the idea to propose with a ring pop. She said that so long as we were both serious about it, it didn't matter if it was legal or not. To us, we would be married and that's all that mattered. So, that's exactly what I did.” “Then, why the actual rings?” LL asked. “Because we eventually found someone who wasn't afraid of pirates and was willing to officiate our wedding. So, now we're legally married,” Law answered. “So cool! Hey Jewel-ya, do you have a devil fruit too?” “Mm-hmm. I got it when I was twenty-one so I still have mild malfunctions with it.” “Which type?” “Yeah, and what type is yours, Law?” LJ added. “I have a Zoan type, known as the Dragon-Dragon fruit.” “Paramecia, known as Ope-Ope fruit.” “Ooh! Sounds cool,” LJ commented. “Can we see what they do?” Law and I shared a look before simultaneously shrugging. “Why not?” we agreed. Stepping back a few feet, I let my inner beast take over and shifted into my full, 30ft long, 27ft high golden dragon form. “Holy cow! I didn't know dragons came I'm that color!” LJ exclaimed I'm surprise. “I didn't know they got that big,” LL added. “We come in all sorts of different colors, sizes and species,” I explained. “Species?” LL asked. “Yes. Dragons, wyverns, drakes and other species. There's at least six more but I can't remember them.” “Law, what does yours do?” LJ questioned. “It allows me to manipulation another's body with surgical percision. Among other things,” he answered. “Really? Like what?” As soon as I saw that devious smirk of his, I knew no good was going to happen. I was proven right when I felt myself get much smaller, body parts change and my whole internal temperature change almost drastically. Looking up at Law, I scowled while crossing my arms. “Really Law? Really? You put me in your younger body? Why not my own?” I demanded. Law’s smirk simply widened. “It's much more fun this way,” he responded. “Sadist!” “You know I am. Yet you love me anyway.” “Yes, but this was just wrong!” “I agree with Jewel-ya on this, older me. I feel like I'm cooking alive in this body!” LL complained. “Yeah, that's something you have to get used to. Thankfully, it means I no longer freeze in cold temperatures.” “Is there a way to lower the temperature?” “Being human. I mean, you're still warmer than normal, but it's much more tolerable.” Once Law had returned me and his younger self to our original bodies, the four of us spent the rest if the day chatting with each other. We even talked to some of the others and their younger versions as well. All in all, not a bad day. LL and LJ did, indeed, see how much stronger and better they will become. When we all left, it was with smiles on our faces and pride in our hearts at the hope we had given our past selves.

PROPOSAL
Thank you @nakamachannn for requesting this! Sorry I took so damned long to write this. Hope you enjoy this fic! <3
“It’s been a month since we’ve been sailing island to island non stop!”
“The captain looks so frantic every time he comes back”
“We should ask him”
“What do you mean the item is at Valley Island! I was at Valley Island a week ago, and they told me to come here!” Law shouted through the phone.
“I don’t care what excuse it is, if the goods aren't in my hands in 2 days time me and my crew will slaughter everyone in your store. I hope I've made myself very clear.” a few seconds on the other side replying to him and he laughed. “You must misunderstand me, I don’t do negotiations and I think you’re forgetting that I am a pirate. See you in 2 days, Mr Rager.” With that Law slammed the den den mushi down.
The phone conversation didn’t go unheard by his crew and they knew him too well to even talk to him when he was enraged like this. To them, it was rare to see their calm and collected captain throw such threats to anyone even if it was an enemy at sea. They slowly retreated back to the deck.
“Asking him now would be an apparent suicide”
“Agreed. We’ll wait for 2 days”
Law had bought his girlfriend the most luxurious clothes and shoes in his 1 month of sailing from island to island. Being with her for almost 3 years he memorised her sense of fashion and what she liked and it ranged from what colour she liked and disliked, what accessory she would rather put on. His crew felt like he went overboard with the gift but as he examined all the gifts he bought that were at the corner of his room, it was not enough, he couldn’t just give her so little after spending months apart. He was not one to be clingy or smother her with his affection but it was something he enjoyed doing for her and he knew he would do it for her until the end of times.
CHANGE OF POV
“Neh Robin, don’t you miss him?”
“Law-kun?” she giggled “I do but I don’t mind, he has his goals and we are pirates after all”
“Just imagine if we weren’t pirates and if we had normal lives...what do you think you and him would end up as?”
“I think he would still be a doctor and I would still be a historian, sliding the pirate life aside of course”
“Anyways have you read the news, The heart pirates have been attacking and looting the Navy library archives. What does he even need from the archives?” Nami pondered out loud.
“Let me read that” Robin motioned for her best friend to pass the newspapers
“Trafalgar Law, captain of the Heart Pirates attacks the navy archives for the 3rd time this month.” she whispered/read. “Perhaps he just needs further search for medicines or leverage”
“I forgot your man is as crazy as Luffy” Nami sighed, the two women burst into laughter at that.
Robin was lowkey worried of how reckless Law was, attacking the navy this many times...his luck was bound to run out if they decided to ambush him with any of the admirals. She then again thought of how strong he was and he was one of the smartest men she had ever met so with that she managed her concerns.
CHANGE OF POV
“I wouldn’t know what I would have done if they didn’t have this ring,” Law thought to himself, he was now walking his girlfriend down the shores of Deriana Island where he had borrowed the Strawhat’s historian for a week claiming he needed her expertise on an ancient text.
Bullshit. He needed private time away from everyone, just for this moment.
“I must say I find this surprise different from the others Law-kun”
“I already told you this one is a special”
“So the past surprises weren’t special?” she retorted, always the smart mouth.
“You know what I mean my love”
“You know I’ve always said this, you’re the sweetest and most romantic boyfriend for a pirate”
He smirked at her compliment “There is no woman like you and I’m one lucky bastard if you ask me” he finished and also reached his destination. “Are you ready?” he whispered.
“Always,” she replied. With that he unbinds her blindfold and a beautiful scenery unravels at sight.
Beautiful flower petals all over the beach floor, decorated with sparkles mixed of purple and white colours and a table that had varieties of boxes of presents wrapped nicely with coloured bows, beside them were more shopping bags that were sealed. What captured her attention next made her eyes widened.
“Law…is that? Are those?” she muttered, not whispering. “It cannot be...they were destroyed on that day…” she ran to the table, there were 4 books that looked like they had seen better days. Some looked torn and burnt, evidence that some were soaked in water or even blood stains on them. Robin inspected the books one by one with a hopeful glint.
“Are these really?” she whispered, now this explains the attacks that Law had launched on the Navy base. He risked everything to get a hold of these books.
“Yes, they were books from Ohara. The navy managed to take these 4 books from what I know of” Law replied.
Her eyes watered, this meant the world to her, to even have something that belonged to her home she thought was lost. Robin turned to Law with the book still in hand and crushed him with the most tightest hug ever.
“Thank you Law...this means the world to me!” she exclaimed, Law’s face flushed a shade of pink at her affection especially when her large bust was suddenly pressed against his chest. He smiled nonetheless, her woman happy was the only thing he needed. She pulled away and gave him the most adoring big doe eyes.
“There is one last thing…” he continued while taking her hand in his “You are the most beautiful woman I have ever met and your compassion and kindness warms my heart everytime. This warmth you give me is ethereal just like you and I thought love will never be possible but you changed every aspect of it. I guess what I’m trying to say is, you're the woman of my dreams and I want you forever.” he paused with a nervous smile before getting down on his knees while pulling out a ring with a big shining purple gem.
“You have my heart always and all ways, will you marry me Nico-ya?” his soul took a deep breath, he finally gathered his balls to ask her to marry him.
Her smile couldn't get any wider than this, the man of her dreams asking for her hand in marriage. Law was everything she could ask for, he was dashingly attractive and so incredibly intelligent it's almost ridiculous. She definitely wants to spend an eternity with this man.
“Yes!” she said happily sticking her finger out for him to put the ring on. “A morganite gem.” she whispered.
“Yes this gem is the only one left from the mines of Theriscia Island, this gem symbolises trust and love. It connects with the soul, the heart, and love. Your inner strength and unconditional love is what fits this gem” he finished.
Robin closed the gap, their forehead and nose touching “Your intelligence always intertwines with your sweetness huh?” she teased.
He smiled “I can’t wait to make you my wife”
“I can’t wait to marry you” she whispered and connected their lips together.

And allow me to ask about your selfships in flowers now, iris and zinnia
Both of these have a little bit diff answers to the rest.
Iris - Does your self insert for your f/os source material have a detailed and complex story and character arc, or are they just kind of vibing?
EVENTUALLY I will need to do a self ship post I can link too, because I have a different self insert for each of my top threes. The SIMPLE answer is they all have detailed backstories. The detailed answer I'll put under a cut at the bottom of this post.
Zinnia - how often do you think about your f/o? Do they live in your head rent free, or do you not think about them for months on end before suddenly hyperfixating on them nonstop for a week?
; w ; I feel like you've seen my blog, I never stop thinking about my boys. Sanji and Corazon occupy the most of my brain, but if I see Buggy I get emotional over him too.
OKAY SO HERE I GO about my self inserts. All three are me in personality, interests, and talents. All three have pink hair and green eyes, and glasses.
My s/i Ace x Sanji is an art historian from the South Blue.
They were traveling on a ship that was transporting priceless paintings from one island to another for an exhibition, when the ship was attacked by pirates after the artwork to sell for the Beri it would get them. They were one of only a couple of survivors of this attack, getting away on a scrap of wood that was floating that they managed to scramble on top of. They were rescued by the Straw Hats. This fits in canon timeline between Little Garden and Drum. They fall for Sanji very quickly, despite his bad habits, infatuated with his flirty nature and constant compliments. Despite Nami's warnings that he was like that with "all women," after they come out as nonbinary to Sanji during a heart to heart, he still treats them with the love and affection that made them fall for him. They bond while cooking together, taste testing each other's food and experimenting with new recipes at dinner for the crew. Make quick best friends with Usopp over mutual loves for drawing, plants, bugs, and being snipers. (They are trained in archery.) Jinbei reminds them of their late father, and they quickly get very attracted to the Fishman, looking up to him and asking him for guidance often. Other best friend is Robin, they bond over art history and how it related to archeology, she helps teach them to read poneglyphs so they can help her. [[Sometimes trio ship with Usopp bc I also love Usopp and Sanuso is my otp]]
My s/i Ace x Corazon is a Selkie from the North Blue. This OC is Canon Divergent
Info on Selkies (mostly based on Real World Mythos, but some tweaking done for OP Universe)
Legends Say that a man who finds a selkie for a wife are blessed with a beautiful obedient wife. At least that’s the human version of the tale. In the selkie world, it is a warning, a cautionary tale: never be caught by a human man, lest you have your coat stolen and never return to the sea. Selkies are generally only found in the farthest north points of the North Blue, where seals are abundant. True to legends, Selkies can shift between human and seal form with the use of their coats or seal skins. Selkies are thought to be rarer than mermaids, but due to the nature of their transformation, true numbers are unknown outside the community. When a selkie has her skin stolen she has a compulsion to marry the person who stole it, usually with discomfort to the selkie. If her coat is willingly given to a man, it must be willingly given back. Selkies sometimes bare children to the man they marry, but when they find the hiding place of their coat they will abandon these children to return to the sea. Some legends say that these children are sometimes visited or saved by large seals later in their lives. When selkies first transform, their coat is the clothes they are wearing, so they are naked until clothed in the human fashion.
My self insert specifically!
In seal form, they are a harp seal, dusty grey with dark spots. In human form they have long dusty pink hair and deep dark green eyes, large like a seals. Their coat takes the form of a fluffy winter coat, with the same colors as their seal skin. When they are wearing their coat, it works similar to a zoan fruit, they can transform by choice, and can do a hybrid form (similar to a mermaid) as well. Not trained in any particular fighting style, they're not much use in a battle, but they know basic first aid and are a good support to a team. They witnessed the murder of Corazon by Doffy (and prior, saw Law being placed in the treasure chest). //Canon Divergent// When Doffy leaves the island, leaving Corazon dying in the snow, They nurse him back to health slowly, giving him their coat to keep warm so that he doesn't freeze to death, and builds a small fire to keep him alive. When he comes to, they help him move inside the partially destroyed building. He gives her coat back willingly after explaining to him what it means to her, and that and his deep caring nature made her fall for him. When he's well enough to travel she travels with him so that he can reunite with Law, and they 'adopt' him.
My self ship for Ace x Buggy is a performance Clown part of the Buggy Pirates.
Ace has been a part of the crew for as long as any of the other original members and harbored feelings for their captain for a very long time before eventually breaking down and confessing after feeling like they were going to lose him to impel down. Buggy is initially very awkward and flustered and nervous about the confession but admits that he had feelings too. He's a bit of a tsundere so sometimes it takes a lot to get hid real feelings out in the open. Buggy has huge jealousy issues and will be very very possessive. Has a huge soft spot for Ace. They fight with a comically large hammer, and with a similar style to capoeira where they are dancing as they fight. They are obnoxious after they're officially together, but it's cute.

“Welcome to the Heart Pirates, Nami-ya” Chapter 13: The Lesser Evil
Nami awoke slowly, her fogged brain sluggishly processing her strange surroundings. A high-pitched beeping noise. Low, muttered voices. Scratchy sheets against her skin and a stiff mattress beneath her back. Her eyes cracked open only to immediately shut again in pain from the blinding white light. She attempted to shield them but was startled to find her wrists bound with thick leather straps to a metal headboard.
Memories of Jinzo and the club snapped to the forefront of her mind. Had she been captured? Was this that creep’s brothel? Where was Ikkaku? Was she still bleeding out in the alley? Where was Law?!
Panicked and disoriented, she screamed and struggled helplessly until a pair of large, gloved hands firmly but gently grabbed her shoulders, pinning her down as Law’s hard face blocked out the bright light, allowing Nami to finally see.
“Nami-ya, calm down; you’re in my infirmary.”
“What?”
He neglected to answer as he inspected her eyes, his stern expression softening with relief. “No blue in the iris—looks like I got all of the drug out. Do you remember last night?”
“Of course I remember! Law, you need to get Ikkaku—”
“Right here, Nami,” a voice from one of the other beds groaned. The redhead breathed a deep sigh of relief when she saw Bepo unshackling the engineer before gingerly helping her sit up. There was an IV full of fluids hooked to her arm and she was in one of the Tang’s hospital gowns, but she was alive. “Neptune’s beard, I never want to see another martini again.”
Nausea bubbled in her stomach as Nami recalled Hypnotique and the state she’d had to leave the other woman in. “Those men…they didn’t—”
“They tried.” Penguin’s face was dark as he leaned against the wall. Tension and quiet rage radiated from every pore as he stared at his shipmate, latex gloves squeaking softly as he clenched and unclenched his hands. “We barely got there in time.”
“I was out of bullets, and Mandōreku had me pinned…” Ikkaku trailed off with a shudder.
“Penguin pulled him off you,” Law said quietly, though Nami could see the angry tic in his jaw as he ground his teeth and the way his tattooed knuckles were white with rage as he released the straps around her wrists. “Shot him point-blank in the family jewels.”
“Did you kill him?” Ikkaku asked, turning to the first mate.
“Not right away,” he replied coldly, the brim of his hat casting his eyes in shadow. “You’d lost a lot of blood and the uranos needed to be dealt with immediately, but once Law had you unconscious and in the infirmary, I took care of him.”
“Good. I only wish I could have done it myself,” she snarled. “Apparently, that son of a bitch was the one who spiked our drinks and supplied the drug in the first place.”
“If I’d known that, I’d have let him bleed out from the hole in his crotch instead of finishing him quickly,” Penguin growled. “I thought he was just a regular scumbag.”
“What’s important is that we got the drug out of you both in time,” Law cut in as he helped Nami sit up. “Uranos basically acts as a stimulant and aphrodisiac. If not treated quickly, it can cause enough brain damage to turn even the most level-headed person into a pleasure-addicted zombie. To say nothing of how much it fucks up your liver, kidneys, and reproductive organs.”
“At least your powers could get it out of us,” Nami stated, remembering how he’d managed to remove the birth control from her system.
“Yes, but given how many vital parts it effects and how fast it works, it takes a lot more concentration and energy than usual—especially since I couldn’t afford to treat you one at a time. I also find it’s easier when the patient’s unconscious; a slowed heart rate means the drug’s processed less quickly, plus it lessens the amount of distracting moaning and writhing from the patient. Not that it stops entirely,” he stated, nodding at the leather restraints.
She flushed. So that’s why he knocked her out. She could now clearly remember how she threw herself at him, practically begging him to fuck her. God, how humiliating! And to think she’d been so overwhelmed by need that she nearly hadn’t told Law about Ikkaku. If he hadn’t managed to trick the answer out of her…
“Thanks for getting us, Boss,” Ikkaku said, breaking the tense silence that fell upon the room.
Bepo gave her a faint smile as he rubbed her back, carefully avoiding scratching her with his claws. “Law’d never leave you two behind.”
“Jinzo didn’t think so,” she replied sourly, hands tightening into fists. “Planned on making Nami his star attraction, and he was going to hand me over to the bartender as a bonus for his ‘services’. Knew there was something off about that guy, especially when he wouldn’t get us water.”
“I’m sorry I left you alone with him,” Nami whispered guiltily, drawing her knees against her chest. Mandōreku had seemed so nice, but behind that charming smile had been utter scum. To think, she’d even encouraged her friend to give that creep a chance!
Ikkaku shook her head insistently. “Nami, I specifically told you to go to the bathroom because I had the feeling something was up, and I wanted you safely out of the way in case things turned violent. Which they did, and you ended up coming out and saving my ass anyway, so no harm, no foul.”
“What’s ‘foul’ is the fact that that bastard had enough uranos to spike the drinks of an entire bar,” Penguin snapped. Despite the girls being safe and sound, his scowl hadn’t eased up, and his posture still implied that he’d like to go out and kill something. But even though anger radiated off of him, he stayed put, not moving so much as an inch from his place by Ikkaku’s bed.
Gloved hand rubbing his goatee, Law nodded in agreement. “Uranos is extracted from a berry that only grows on a single island in the South Blue—Jinzo must have sunk a fortune into getting enough juice to dose a whole bar full of women. Just 15ml costs at least 50,000 belli.”
“If he got the shipment in recently, plus factoring in buying property, remodeling, paying his guards, and all his other expenses, no wonder he didn’t have the money to pay you and Drake,” Nami said, tallying up the rough costs of everything Jinzo had likely been spending in the past month.
Frown deepening, the surgeon looked at her in consideration. “He and Kimo-ya had always done well in the black market trade, but I guess with so many upstart pirates moving on to the New World to take advantage of the chaos, he wanted a fallback in case his normal clientele dried up. It’s not a bad plan, but he should never have tried to muscle in on Haiko-ya’s territory; she may be married to his partner, but she’s basically the unofficial ruler of Grimm’s nightlife.”
“Haiko’s that powerful?”
“She’s established quite the foothold over the past two years. Hiroshi once told me that, before she married Kimo-ya, Grimm was even worse; the dead bodies of whores were regularly found on street corners, drug lords ran rampant, you never knew if you were drinking alcohol or formaldehyde, and the slave trade was out of control. When Haiko-ya arrived, she used her influence to start cleaning things up. The first thing she did was reform the brothels; because of her, they’re now run like legitimate businesses with willing employees that are treated well.”
“Yeah? Jinzo seemed to have had other ideas,” Nami said softly. “He had us all drugged so he could cut down labor costs. No need to pay whores if they’re mindless sex slaves.”
Law scoffed. “Idiot. Women who take uranos have a life expectancy of a month, tops, and that’s still longer than men. Aside from the organ damage the drug can cause, being in a constant state of arousal like that typically results in dehydration, puts a massive strain on the heart, and when you’re only focused on fulfilling your sexual desires, basic human needs like eating and sleeping fall by the wayside. Most wither away to nothing.”
Penguin took off his hat to rub his forehead, scowl deepening. “So, even if he’d succeeded, once those girls died, he’d have to pay out again for a new batch of brain-fucked prostitutes.”
Nami shuddered at the thought. That could have been them. She would have died a mindless sex slave. Despite her life of servitude and the dangers she’d faced as a woman on the Grand Line, such a fate had never even occurred to her. Even when Absalom had kidnapped her and tried to marry her, she’d never even considered it—mainly because she’d been unconscious, but also because she never doubted that Sanji or Luffy or Zoro would save her. Those three always seemed to show up when she was in trouble. But Law…
She had far more faith in the Surgeon of Death than she used to, but it wasn’t the same instinctive trust that she had with her nakama—if she hadn’t gone looking for him, would he have shown up in time to get her and Ikkaku out of there? Luffy would drop everything if he even thought one of his friends was in trouble. Zoro, for all his terrible direction sense, never failed to stumble across her in the nick of time. Sanji had a sixth sense for women in danger. Even Usopp and Chopper, her fellow scaredy-cats, could be relied on to overcome their own fears if she were in trouble.
But Law had been on his own mission. The man had his own goals and priorities that wouldn’t always line up with hers. She couldn’t always rely on him to save her. She shouldn’t always rely on others.
Ignorant to the navigator’s inner turmoil, Law shook his head. “You’re assuming Haiko-ya would let him live that long. She already knew he was opening a brothel, so the second she caught even a whiff of uranos being used on the girls, she’d burn the place to the ground.”
“Unless…” Bepo began before stopping himself. “Sorry.”
“Unless what, Bepo?” Ikkaku asked curiously.
“Speak,” Law ordered, eyes narrowed.
The bear looked nervous as he twiddled his claws. “Well, what if Jinzo planned on getting Miss Haiko out of the way? With Mr. Kimo out of commission, it would be a lot easier for him to take over and drive her out. Or kill her. Or,” he swallowed harshly, “maybe even drug her and add her to the brothel.”
It made a sick amount of sense, and Nami watched Law’s gold eyes burn with understanding. “Haiko-ya probably suspected Jinzo was looking to take her out before his new business opened. That’s why she asked me to go after him last night.” Glare deepening, Law stalked towards the door, motioning for Penguin to follow. The first mate reluctantly left his post, tossing a concerned glance at Ikkaku before leaving the infirmary.
The room was filled with an uncomfortable silence until Nami uttered, “Bepo?”
“Yes, Nami?”
“What happened to the other girls? The ones in the club that were also drugged?”
Her fellow navigator seemed reluctant to answer, glancing around as if hoping someone would pop out to answer the unpleasant question for him. “Well…Captain’s primary concern was you two, but he did order us to sedate and deliver them to Miss Haiko. Once he was sure you would be alright, he went to see what he could do for them, but given how far gone most of them looked…” He bowed his head sadly. “I’m sorry.”
Nami bit her lip, tears welling up in her eyes as she stared down at the white tiled floor. Given all that she’d heard about the drug, she felt overwhelming pity for those girls. What would happen to them? What kind of lives could they expect? Did they have husbands or boyfriends or families? Would they ever know the girls’ fates? Were they better off not knowing?
“I’m so sorry, Nami,” Ikkaku murmured, catching her attention. The Heart Pirate looked utterly devastated, tears welling up in her dark eyes. “I was so, so stupid. I figured since Haiko’d been cleaning up the clubs and bars, it was safe to have a night out.”
“You couldn’t have known this would happen,” Nami replied weakly.
Bepo nodded emphatically as he pulled his crewmate into a tight hug. “Don’t blame yourself; even Law thought it was safe enough for you two to go out alone! New bars don’t open without Miss Haiko’s approval, after all. And with the way she’s been running things, it’s more dangerous to go out alone during the day than at night!”
“Really?” Nami asked, surprised.
“Oh yeah. Since Miss Haiko pretty much runs the island at night, she doesn’t get involved with things during the day. It’s the compromise she made with Mr. Kimo and Jinzo. So, slavers and stuff are still a problem while the sun’s up, but once things get dark, it’s a lot safer.”
“Kimo’s really ok with stuff like that?”
“Yeah,” Bepo said nervously, round ears drooping. “He may be more honorable than Jinzo, but he’s still pretty ruthless—wouldn’t be in the black market organ trade otherwise. Handing over control of the island at night to Miss Haiko was basically his wedding gift to her. Jinzo really hadn’t liked that—the red light district had been his domain.”
Frowning, Nami considered his words. Since arriving on Grimm, she’d assumed that Kimo was the lesser of the two evils between himself and Jinzo. But something wasn’t quite right; considering all the work that went into opening a new business, Jinzo must have been planning on starting the brothel for at least a month, if not two. Yet if Kimo had handed control of Grimm’s evening affairs over to Haiko, there was no way Jinzo would have dared disrespected his partner like that, right? And Kimo would have had to be completely stupid not to notice his partner muscling in on his wife’s territory.
Stupid, or in on it, Nami thought, eyes widening as she remembered her brief encounter with Haiko. The club owner had seemed pretty pissed about what had happened to her husband, but not nearly as distraught as one would expect from a woman whose beloved had been possibly assaulted by his long-time partner. And she’d been so quick to point the finger at Jinzo. More than eager to push a slighted Law in his direction. To step back and let someone else get their hands dirty.
It was all conjecture, and she had no proof, but Nami’s gut had told her when they first met that she was the kind of woman who could slit a man’s throat with a smile. And now her gut was saying Haiko was far more involved in this whole mess than she’d let on.
Lost in thought, Nami didn’t realize Law had returned until she heard a low, rapid thumping inches from her face. Looking up, she jumped back like a startled cat as she found herself staring at a beating heart in a translucent cube.
“What the hell is that?!” she screeched.
“I think that’s pretty obvious, Nami-ya; a heart. Specifically, Jinzo’s.”
“Why do you even have that?!”
Tossing the disembodied organ causally into the air and catching it with one hand, he replied, “Well, because I was a bit preoccupied with saving your life, I didn’t have the time to make that bastard suffer like I wanted to. So, I took his heart and handed the rest of him over to Drake-ya.” His grin was cruel and pleased, especially as the organ in his hand beat faster, clearly under some kind of distress. “When I explained the situation to him, he was more than happy to deliver justice in my stead. Especially since Haiko-ya agreed to pay him the money he’s owed, plus a bonus for taking care of this disgusting pest problem.”
“What’s Drake doing with him?” Ikkaku asked, glaring at the heart with cold determination.
“Torture. He promised to use every trick the Marines and his father ever taught him. Broken bones, waterboarding, hot pokers, acid in open wounds, bamboo shards under his nails—but he’s not allowed to kill him.” Gold eyes landed on Nami. “That’ll be my pleasure. Unless you’d like that honor for yourself?” he asked, offering the organ to the navigator like a macabre Valentine.
She gasped in horror. “I’m not killing anyone!”
“You sure? After what he did to you? Think about what would have happened, Nami-ya; he tried to make you a sex slave. He would have profited off your body and laughed as you served every sick scumbag willing to pay. You’d be used, abused, and at the mercy of men who’d only see you as a notch on their belts and a warm hole to fuck,” he sneered, grip on the fragile organ tightening unconsciously.
She shuddered. The picture Law painted wasn’t pretty. Just the thought of what she would have been reduced to made her want to vomit. She and Ikkaku and all those other girls…
Swallowing hard, Nami nervously met his cold eyes. “Law, did you manage to cure the other girls?” Bepo had been doubtful, but a small part of her prayed for a miracle from the doctor.
Law ran a hand through his dark hair. “Haiko-ya’s familiar with uranos—she had some anaphrodisiac on hand to hold back the effects, but not enough for everyone. Some I was able to fully cure. Others will likely be nymphomaniacs for the rest of their lives, but at least still have their higher reasoning intact. Several unfortunately succumbed to the permanent effect before I even got to them. And a few had been taking other drugs that didn’t play well with the addition of uranos and alcohol—needless to say, they died.”
Her throat tightened like a fist had wrapped around it. “Oh my god.”
Holding the rapidly-beating heart out towards her like a rose or box of chocolates, he asked coaxingly, “So, considering the number of lives Jinzo ruined tonight, are you sure you don’t want to give it a little squeeze?”
Fingers twitching, Nami was tempted to take him up on his offer. To grab that fragile organ and crush it between her fingers. To make Jinzo suffer in a way he never could have prepared for in the name of the women he’d been willing to use for his own ends.
But her conscience won out. She wasn’t a murderer. Maybe if it had been Arlong’s heart, she would have done it. This Fishman had spent nearly a decade pushing her to the breaking point. Hell, she’d tried to kill him at least a dozen different ways before resigning herself to the fragile glimmer of hope that he’d honor their deal and free her village.
She had no doubt that Jinzo was just as bad as Arlong, and he’d certainly wronged her and her friend, but as far as personal stakes went, Jinzo paled in comparison. So, even though he deserved it, she couldn’t bring herself to kill him in such a callous, ignoble way. Luffy would never approve. None of her nakama would. She didn’t give a damn about honor or fair fights, but killing him like this, when the man had no chance to fight back, was a slippery slope she didn’t want to go down.
Gingerly, Nami pushed Law’s hand away. “I’m sure. It just…I could never…”
The Surgeon of Death seemed disgruntled that she refused his macabre gift, but he got over it quickly. “Suit yourself. Ikkaku?”
The engineer seemed to consider it, but one look at Nami’s ashen face changed her mind. “Better take that somewhere else, Boss—I don’t give a shit what you do to that bastard, but Nami doesn’t need to see it.”
Law glanced at the woman in question before shrugging and tossing the heart onto an empty bed. Casually, he checked Ikkaku’s IV and stitches along her side as he said, “Fine. I should call Drake-ya first and see if he’s gotten bored of ripping chunks of flesh off of the bastard, anyway. Hate to interfere with his fun. Penguin’s getting your breakfast—eat up, then get dressed. The log pose has reset and we’re leaving Grimm no later than sunset. This visit has been an absolute shit show.” Satisfied with his engineer’s condition, Law retrieved Jinzo’s heart, tossing it up and down like a beanbag as he ordered, “If you have anything you wanted to pick up before we head off, this is your last chance—though you’re both wearing the uniforms. No arguments.”
“Fine by me,” Nami murmured, refusing to look at the vulnerable red organ.
Her chin was lifted gently, and she was forced to meet Law’s tired eyes. “Nami-ya, I promise the next island we land on will be much more relaxing. No black markets, drugs, or creepy psychopaths.”
“That…that sounds great, Law,” she replied uncomfortably.
“That’s it? No complaining? No demands for monetary compensation? No insults?” His frown deepened as he took a step back, taking care to keep Jinzo’s heart just out of her line of sight. “What’s on your mind, Nami-ya?
She worried her lip. Haiko was Law’s friend, or at least they were on good terms. Should she really risk inciting his anger by making accusations against her without proof?
Then again, Law was an intelligent man, and he knew the woman better than Nami did. If anyone could put her mind at ease and prove her theory right or wrong, it was him.
For better or worse, she’d trust his judgment.
Taking a deep, steadying breath, Nami asked, “Did Haiko ever tell you what kind of accident her husband was in?”
A dark blue eyebrow raised in bemusement. “No. We were a bit preoccupied with brainstorming ways of making Jinzo pay for his transgressions. I assume it was something pretty serious, though.”
“But she knows how good a doctor you are. You completely repaired Hiroshi’s hands. You can pull drugs and poison out of people and find out exactly what’s wrong with someone with your powers. Why wouldn’t she ask you to look Kimo over and see if you could help him?”
“Because—” Law paused, quickly realizing he had no answer. “That’s a very good question, Nami-ya.” Brow furrowing, he stood before her in deep thought for a few minutes, idly running his thumb over the heart in his hand. It continued to beat at a dizzying speed—Jinzo was terrified, in agony, or both.
Finally, with a dark glint in his golden eyes, the Dark Doctor stated, “I’ll look into it. As for you two; rest, eat, and be ready to set sail by tonight.”
“Aye-aye, Captain,” Ikkaku replied while Nami nodded mutely.
Without another word, Law stalked out of the infirmary, leaving the two women and the Mink alone.
Determined not to endure any more awkward silences, Bepo walked over to Nami, lifted her up like she weighed nothing, and carried her over to Ikkaku’s cot. The bear sat down and pulled both women onto his lap, hugging them close like they were a pair of dolls.
“You had us all worried,” he whimpered, rubbing his muzzle against Ikkaku’s tangled hair. After six hours and all the craziness that had ensued during that time, the dark strands were regaining their natural curl. “I thought we were going to lose you.”
Despite the stress and trauma she’d endured over the past few days, Nami couldn’t help but feel the need to reassure the sweet bear. “We’re ok, Bepo. You guys got to us just in time,” she promised, patting his soft fur comfortingly.
“We knew you’d never let us down,” Ikkaku agreed, smiling softly at the way the Mink nuzzled her.
“But what if we hadn’t—”
“If you’re worried, next time you’re coming with us on Ladies’ Night,” she offered.
“Yeah,” Nami chimed in. “No one would dare mess with us if we had our fierce Mink bodyguard with us!”
“I don’t think you’re getting a choice on the whole ‘bodyguard’ thing,” Bepo admitted. “Law was a wreck. Pretty sure he’s not going to let either of you off the ship for a while without either him or a whole entourage for protection. Sorry.”
As much as Nami wanted to be annoyed at this, she couldn’t blame the dark captain for such a precaution. Grimm had taught her that, if she wanted to get through the rest of the year in one piece, she was going to have to adapt to her situation better. Life with the Straw Hats had made her forget just how much danger a woman faced.
Ikkaku had said she was lucky to have kept her virginity for so long—that she had the chance to choose who to give her first time to—but she hadn’t fully realized just how lucky. Absalom, Jinzo, Harpin—she could have been raped by any one of them. And though she was fortunate enough to have powerful people looking after her, she needed to be better prepared to defend herself in the future. As it was, she was a liability, and she couldn’t always count on others to rescue her.
Resting her head against Bepo’s furry neck, she made a decision. “Hey, Ikkaku?”
“Yeah?”
“Think you could take a look at my Clima-Tact later? Maybe see if there’s a way to bulk up its attacks, or give me some tips on how to utilize it better? I…I don’t want you to feel like I’d be in the way of a fight again.” Usopp would probably freak that she’d let someone other than him mess around with his invention, but Nami was sure he’d understand that it was for the sake of survival.
“I didn’t exactly think you’d be in the way,” Ikkaku replied, though there was a hint of hesitation in her tone. “I just didn’t want you getting hurt. I mean, if it turned out Mandōreku had a gun, I couldn’t risk him shooting you.”
“I get it, but if I’m going to stand a chance in the New World, I need to up my game. I’m never going to be a great fighter like Luffy or Sanji-kun, but that doesn’t mean I shouldn’t try to get stronger.”
The engineer smiled sympathetically. “Then sure, I’ll look at it. Honestly, I’ve been dying to study that thing for a while but didn’t want to overstep.”
“I appreciate it,” Nami said. She meant it, too; Ikkaku might have been blunt and a bit pushy at times, but it was good to hear that she really did respect Nami’s boundaries.
“If you want some combat training, I can teach you a few of my moves,” Bepo offered, turning to rub his fuzzy cheek against her forehead affectionately.
“That’d probably be a good idea. Law said it was time to start some combat training, but I’ve been avoiding it. Guess it’s time to bite the bullet.”
“You want to learn to catch a bullet with your teeth?!” the Mink asked, shocked. “Not even Law can do that!”
Neither Ikkaku nor Nami bothered to correct him. Not that they could have; both women were laughing too hard.
XXX
Several hours later, Nami, Law, Jean Bart, Shachi, Ikkaku, and Penguin were loading the last of the supplies onto the submarine. The two women weren’t really in any condition to do any heavy lifting, but Nami was determined to spend as much time outside as she could before they submerged, as she had no idea when she’d get the chance to enjoy fresh air again. Ikkaku had decided to keep her company while the men did most of the work, and Law had agreed to let them lounge on the docks as it allowed him to supervise the men and watch over the women at the same time.
Normally, Nami would be on edge from his scrutiny, but she barely noticed as she was more interested in the amount of attention Penguin was giving them. Or rather, Ikkaku. The first mate had come up with practically every excuse under the sun to come over to check on them, mostly under the guise of ensuring his crewmate didn’t do anything to pull her stiches.
“I swear, he thinks I’m an invalid,” Ikkaku scoffed as Penguin scuttled off to help Shachi load up the supplies for the greenhouse Clione had ordered. “I’m not going to tear my stiches getting a drink.”
“Give the guy a break—he was freaking out when he realized you were in danger last night,” Nami replied, sipping her tea as she reclined in her deck chair. Penguin had insisted on fetching them some from the galley to ward off the gloomy island’s chill. It was definitely appreciated; a thick fog had settled over the Fall island since mid-morning and, combined with the chilly ocean spray, even the normally warm navigator was getting goosebumps.
“I guess. He’s a good guy like that,” she acquiesced with a small, affectionate smile. “He’s always looking after the crew. Speaking of, how’re you holding up in the uniform? You’re not getting overheated again, are you?”
The navigator gave the beige jumpsuit she’d once again been saddled with a brief scowl. “I’m fine—just trying to think of ways to make this damn thing palatable without Law freaking out.”
“Maybe we could modify it or something—make you a custom version. So long as it’s got the Heart Pirate emblem on it, I’m sure Law wouldn’t mind if we made it a bit sexier,” she said with a suggestive wink. “Especially if he gets to parade you about like his very own mikan arm-candy.”
Before Nami could tell her off for such an absurd suggestion, the man in question approached as if sensing the girls were talking about him. “And how are the two princesses doing?” he asked, tone teasing as he leaned Kikoku against his shoulder. “Has Penguin started feeding you grapes and offering foot massages?”
“Sadly, not yet,” Ikkaku snickered. “Need something, Boss?”
“I’m going to go run an errand. I won’t be gone long, but until I get back, stay close to the ship.”
The two women shrugged. Law had been popping out to run various errands all day; at this point, none of the Heart Pirates gave it much thought anymore.
“Don’t worry,” Nami replied, waving away his concern as she sipped her tea. “If I never set foot on Grimm’s shores again, I’ll be a happy woman. The docks are as far as I plan to go.”
“Good to hear it. Anything you two want me to pick up while I’m out?”
“Being awful magnanimous there, Boss,” Ikkaku drawled, an eyebrow raising suspiciously. “You trying to butter us up? Bribe us?”
He gave an insincere, too-wide smile. “Maybe I just feel like spoiling my two most beautiful subordinates.”
“And now I know you’re up to something. Well, if you insist on buying our silence, you can get me a huge box of gourmet chocolates or something,” she quipped, smirking up at her captain challengingly.
“Make that two boxes,” Nami giggled. “One for each of us. And a case of the most expensive sake the island sells.”
Law rolled his eyes, exasperated. “Greedy wench. Should have known you wouldn’t settle for a coffee or something.”
“If you don’t like it, I take cash, too.”
“Speaking of, you still owe me—”
“Nope!” she cut him off. “You said I could pay you back in cash, or with a kiss. And guess what, oh Surgeon of Death? I distinctly recall kissing you last night.”
“Under the influence of a sex drug.”
“You never specified the circumstances of the kiss. As far as I’m concerned, we’re even.”
Law let out an annoyed tch, and it took Nami a ridiculous amount of willpower to keep from commenting on the fact that the infamous Supernova was basically pouting. “Fine. I should be back in a half-hour. If I’m not, avenge my death.”
“Will do, Boss,” Ikkaku replied as she reclined in her seat, unbothered by the concept of her captain’s grisly demise. Not that she had reason to be—word had quickly spread about what had happened to Jinzo, so even if any of his former subordinates wanted revenge, only the truly stupid would risk their boss’ fate.
A blue bubble encased him and Law vanished before their eyes. Not wasting any time, the engineer turned to her companion. “So, you kissed him, huh?”
Nami scowled half-heartedly at her. “Because of the uranos.”
“Sure, sure,” Ikkaku chuckled but didn’t press the topic any further. It was good that she was feeling comfortable enough to make the occasional joke about last night’s debacle, but Nami could tell she didn’t wish to dwell on it longer than needed. There was a moment of comfortable silence between them before Ikkaku sighed. “Damn, now that he’s mentioned it, I kinda do want that foot massage. I’m getting a little cold, too; I’m gonna see if I can talk Penguin into giving one inside. You in?”
“Nah, I’m good. I think I’ll stay here and enjoy the fresh air a little longer. Go treat yourself!” she laughed, shooing the engineer away.
Normally, Nami rarely said no to a free foot massage, but she had the sneaking suspicion that Penguin wouldn’t mind doting on just Ikkaku for a while. With all his hovering, concern, and fury towards her attacker, Nami was beginning to theorize that the first mate might just have a burgeoning crush on the beautiful engineer. And even if she was completely off-base, Ikkaku deserved a little extra pampering after the night she’d had.
As Ikkaku meandered back into the sub, Nami wandered over to the edge of the pier, giving Jean Bart and Shachi a reassuring wave when they made to get up from where they were resting atop a stack of crates. Making sure to stay in their line of sight and within shouting distance, she stood there for several peaceful moments and relished the feel of the ocean spray on her face. She hoped the journey to the next island wasn’t too long—Grimm was damp and chilly and grey and an overall miserable experience, but she certainly hadn’t been bored.
“You seem to be doing well.”
Nami whirled around to find herself face-to-chest with Drake. Instinctively, her hand went to her Clima-Tact—Law had practically strapped it to her leg himself, though she doubted she’d risk leaving the submarine without it again.
Drake looked down at her critically, blue eyes lingering briefly upon the Heart Pirate insignia on her breast pocket before snapping back up to her face, a faint blush rising to his cheeks as he realized exactly where he’d been staring. He coughed into his fist awkwardly, waiting a moment for his composure to return. “I heard you ran amuck of some uranos. I suppose it’s a good thing you had Trafalgar for a temporary captain. I loathe the man, but his medical skills are beyond compare,” he spat as if giving Law even the slightest bit of praise filled his mouth with a foul taste.
“Y-yeah, he really came through for me,” Nami said nervously, fingers twitching above her batons.
Drake noticed her disquiet and took a half-step back, putting a respectable amount of distance between them. “I’m not here to kidnap you, Miss Nami—especially not with your companions ready to attack if I so much as blink at you wrong.”
Her anxiety eased up at the reminder. Glancing at her shipmates over her shoulder, she noticed Shachi glaring daggers at the rival captain through his sunglasses as he polished his rifle. Next to him, Jean Bart cracked his knuckles meaningfully. Confidence returning with the knowledge that she had good people watching her back, she returned her attention to Drake, hand retreating from her weapon to rest elegantly on her hip. “Smart man, though if abduction’s not on the agenda, why are you here?”
“Partially to check up on you. I was concerned Trafalgar would want to take advantage of you in your drug-addled state.”
“Law would never!” she snapped, instantly offended on the Dark Doctor’s behalf. The man may have been a sadistic, flirty bastard, but she instinctively knew he had never considered using her like Jinzo had intended. After all, she’d basically offered herself up on a silver platter, and when he’d kissed her back, it had been for the sake of distracting her. Law was a lot of terrible things, but “rapist” was not among them.
Holding up his hands in surrender, Drake raised an eyebrow at her outburst. “You’ve certainly changed your tune. Just two days ago you told me you didn’t even like him and literally begged me to help you strip off his uniform. I’d hoped you’d be smart enough not to fall for his seduction techniques so easily.”
“I haven’t fallen for anything—I’ve just realized that, even if he is a creepy asshole, he’s at least got enough honor to keep me safe from other scumbags. He’s the lesser of the evils out there.” Biting her lip, she reluctantly brought up, “By the way, I heard that you’re the one who…took care of Jinzo.”
With a nonchalant shrug he replied, “Normally, doing anything that benefits Trafalgar turns my stomach, but I was willing to make an exception in this case. The lesser of the evils and whatnot. That, and Haiko offered me a rather impressive sum of belli in exchange. I certainly wasn’t going to turn down that kind of deal—especially when I found out what Jinzo had done.”
“You…said he owed you a lot of money for something. What was it?” she asked, not sure she wanted to know the answer.
Piercing blue eyes narrowed as he crossed his arms. “You’re not accusing me of selling him uranos, are you?”
“Jinzo did sink a small fortune into getting his hands on enough to drug a whole bar. Maybe it wasn’t the only thing you sold him, but you did say he owed you 600 million belli,” she countered, though her heart wasn’t in it. Drake may have been a dangerous Supernova and attempted kidnapper but considering how he’d seemed rather shy around unclothed women, she highly doubted that he’d supply a drug that would turn girls into sex-slaves. Still, it didn’t hurt to check.
His answering glower put doubt into that thought, though. “Miss Nami, I understand you’ve been through a traumatic ordeal, and thus I’ll humor your idiotic accusation—no,” he stated, voice barely more than a deep, threatening growl. “What he and Kimo owed me money for was a job they requested assistance on, plus I had raided a merchant ship full of uncut diamonds, platinum, and silk. And considering how you relieved Jinzo of his cash, even if I did bring in the uranos, do you really think I’d hand it over without getting paid?”
Ice water ran though her veins at his tone. Drake was deeply offended at her allegation. She couldn’t blame him—despite the near-abduction, he’d been remarkably courteous to her since they’d first met. Besides that, even if he wasn’t a Marine anymore, it was clear he was far more honorable than most pirates. But every man had his limits, and if she didn’t lighten the mood fast, she might end up sharing Jinzo’s fate. Backing up a half-step and holding out her hands as if to calm down an angry beast, Nami simpered, “Hey, I’m sorry! You’re right—it was stupid of me to think you had anything to do with this. I-I’ve been through a lot over the past couple days and wasn’t thinking straight!”
Drake took a deep breath, and the tension eased from his shoulders as his hands fell to his sides. Behind her, Nami could hear the safety of a gun clicking, and she suspected her bodyguards had something to do with his new calm. “I may be a pirate, Miss Nami, but I don’t care for my honor being questioned.”
“I’ll remember that.”
His stern expression softened at her obvious fear. A large hand rubbed the back of his neck with a hint of embarrassment. “I confess, though, I do now feel a bit guilty for even considering selling you to that madman. Uranos is nasty business—rumor has it that the Navy briefly considered using it as a form of torture for female pirates in Impel Down, but Sengoku shot it down.”
Bile burned the back of her throat at the mere thought. “Dare I ask who proposed that option?”
“I believe you robbed his mansion last month.”
A disgusted shudder wracked her body. Of course that perverted psychopath would suggest such a thing. Considering Harpin’s low view of women and shady dealings, she wouldn’t have been surprised if he suggested it so he could get his hands on some for his own depraved use.
“God, the Navy employs the sickest people,” she groused. “How can they even look at themselves in the mirror?”
“People will go to quite the extremes in the name of Justice,” Drake answered, tilting his head down so his face was cast in shadow. “You can’t always stop evil by playing by the rules.”
Nami bit her lip. She probably shouldn’t be discussing such things with a former Rear-Admiral. Even if he had no love for his former leaders, she doubted such a conversation would go anywhere pleasant. She was trying to keep the mood light, after all. “Right. So, where are you heading next? Off to the New World?”
“No, not yet. It’s still too chaotic on the other side. Perhaps in a few months, when the waves of idiots looking to make a name for themselves have all killed each other. If I hope to stand out, I can’t just be another voice screaming for attention.”
“Not the worst plan in the world, I guess.” In fact, it was pretty similar to Law’s. Perhaps all North Blue pirates were this pragmatic—it seemed they were the only ones willing to wait for the best moment to strike instead of recklessly rushing into certain death.
“So glad you approve,” he replied sarcastically, though there was an amused tilt to his lips. “I may also be staying on this side for the sake of enjoying Paradise while it’s unusually peaceful—it’s almost like a vacation.”
Just like that, the rest of the tension between them dissolved like sugar in hot tea, and Nami found herself able to relax. Drake was an intimidating man, especially when he was angry, but like Law, he didn’t seem the type to cause trouble unless he could gain from it. Especially not with the Heart Pirates so close by.
That in mind, Nami gave him a small smile, intent of staying in his good graces. “By the way, thank you for…what you did to Jinzo. I’m sure getting payback on my behalf wasn’t a factor in your decision, but it’s good to have the peace of mind knowing he won’t be coming after me again.” Death and torture were never things she’d be able to condone, but it seemed smarter to praise Drake rather than condemn him.
Broad shoulders lifted in a mild shrug, but the large captain seemed pleased enough at her gratitude. “Honestly, while it wasn’t at the top of my list of reasons, when I was informed that he’d drugged you, it did help sway my decision. I thought perhaps my act of chivalry might help you see sense and convince you to join me instead of Trafalgar.”
A wry smile curled her lips and she jutted out her hip as she replied sassily, “Torturing a guy isn’t a great way to earn a lady’s affections, though points for creativity.”
Drake blushed slightly at the mild teasing in her tone, pulling the brim of his hat a bit further down to hide it the damning tinge of pink. “Perhaps not my preferred way to win you over, but I work with what I have.”
Intent on keeping the mood light, she teased, “Well, Captain Drake, how would you prefer to ‘win me over’, as you put it? A shopping trip? Candlelit dinner? A long stroll on the beach under the stars?”
“I’d rather appeal to your sense of reason—you’re an intelligent woman from what I’ve seen, and surely by this point Trafalgar would have shown you his true colors. While he might not be the absolute worst piece of scum sailing the ocean, you’re better off without him. That insane bastard will bring you nothing but trouble.”
Part of her appreciated the fact that Drake seemed even the slightest bit concerned for her safety—it was always good to have allies, after all. “Law’s a little unhinged, I’ll admit, but still far from the worst captain I’ve ever served under. He’s loyal and protective of his crew, and I guess that includes me now. That, and I have this sneaking suspicion that you only want me because I’m his.” She blinked before smacking her forehead with her palm, cheeks burning bright red. “That didn’t come out right.”
Drake let out a faint chuckle as he closed the distance between them with a few casual steps. “Whether or not you meant it that way, you’re not wrong. Considering all the times he’s gone out of his way just to screw me over, I wouldn’t mind the chance for some payback.” He leaned in, his voice a seductive growl in her ear as he continued, “And what better way to do it than to steal away the woman he clearly plans to fuck?”
“Wha—”
“Back it up there, Drake,” Shachi snapped as he audibly clicked the safety of his gun off again, raising the rifle meaningfully. “We cut you some slack when you badmouthed the boss, but trying to seduce our Cat Thief is a big no-no.”
Nami shivered as a puff of Drake’s hot breath danced against her neck when he scoffed. “Oh? Don’t you have faith in her loyalty to your captain? Or do you think she’d be so easily seduced?”
“Like you said, Miss Nami’s a smart woman,” Jean Bart replied, once more cracking his knuckles, ready to fight. “Smart enough not to fall for such an obvious ploy from a guy who tried to kidnap her just two days ago.”
“Then you boys have no reason to worry.” His attention returned to the woman in question when he felt her small hand lightly press against his torso. “So, what will it be, Miss Nami? Surely such a gorgeous, intelligent woman knows she deserves a better captain than an unhinged scoundrel like Trafalgar. Someone like me. Perhaps I could convince you over a bottle of wine in my cabin.”
Memories of the fantasy she’d shared with Ikkaku about how she’d seduce Drake popped into her head. She certainly hadn’t imagined he’d try to beat her to the punch like this. But while his attempt was admirable, the execution was unrefined. He had the proximity and the low, coaxing tone down, but he wasn’t even trying to touch her. He was smart to compliment her looks and intelligence, but he wasn’t quite making her feel wanted. Or maybe she’d just gotten used to Law’s much more patient, methodical approach. In fact, she couldn’t help but wonder if Drake was trying to imitate him but wasn’t quite comfortable enough to commit.
And too bad for him, when a Cat Thief like her sensed weakness, she took advantage.
“Hmm, I admit it’s a tempting offer,” Nami cooed, playfully running her fingers along the fur trim of his bolero. Large brown eyes gazed up at him through long lashes as she continued, “Having the famous X Drake so interested in little old me is certainly doing wonders for my ego. And what woman wouldn’t want to serve under such a big, strong, handsome captain?” For extra measure, she blew a light stream of air against the bare skin of his sternum as she drew a little heart on his prominent abdominal muscles.
Drake’s face turned the same shade as his hair, prompting Nami to laugh and drop the act, stepping away from him. “Unfortunately, I’m pretty sure that if I ran off with one of his rivals, Law wouldn’t take too kindly to it. But I’ll keep it in mind.”
Growling faintly in annoyance at how easily she’d gotten under his skin, Drake sought to compose himself by dusting off imaginary dirt from his sleeves. “Hmph. Well, in case you do come to your senses, just know the offer expires when I leave for the New World.”
“Fair. Now, unless you were looking to say goodbye to Law…” she trailed off, suggestively wagging her eyebrows.
Any composure Drake might have regained fell away instantly. “It was bad enough dealing with that smarmy bastard over the phone,” he snapped, ears burning brightly. Given what she knew of their interactions, Nami could guess that call had been utterly dripping with Law’s smug, suggestive flirtations. No wonder Drake had waited until he was gone to approach her. “All I have to say to him is ‘burn in Hell’!”
“Well, unless you plan on telling him that yourself, you should get going—he’s due back any minute,” she warned with a teasing smile. She’d never admit it out loud, but Law had been right—the best way to deal with Drake was to lean into the sexual tension to knock him off balance.
“Fine,” he growled, shoving his hands into his pockets and marching away with his head held deceptively high. “One last bit of advice, Miss Nami—I know it’s inevitable, but at least make him work for it before you sleep with him.”
Her jaw dropped in shock and outrage. “You—I’m not going to sleep with that jerk!”
“That’s the spirit,” he replied dryly over his shoulder, his large silhouette fading into the fog.
Once the former Marine was out of sight, Shachi was at her side, leaning his elbow on her shoulder. “You ok, Nami?”
The red haired thief was grateful for the cool air, as it helped her blush fade more quickly. “Yeah, I’m fine. Thanks for having my back.”
“No problem. Glad we didn’t have to fight him, though. I hate to say it, but Drake’s got a higher bounty than Law for a good reason—guy turns into a total monster during a fight.”
“Literally or figuratively?”
“Yes.”
“Of course,” she sighed. Not that she was surprised—she’d seen his hand become a green scaled claw back in the alley, and she’d heard rumors that he could transform into carnivorous dinosaur of some kind. “How long until we plan on leaving?”
“Probably no more than an hour,” Jean Bart replied, hoisting up one of the larger supply crates. “Why? Need to get anything before we go?”
A cat-like smirk curled her lips as she fanned herself with a wad of cash. “Nah. I’d just rather we be on our way before Drake realizes he’s missing a few thousand belli.”
Shachi immediately doubled over laughing. “Holy fuck! When did you pull that off?!”
“When you two were distracting him with your chivalrous display,” she said evenly, tucking the money into her breast pocket. Even if Drake did realize his wallet was suddenly empty, there was no chance he’d dare let his hand go anywhere near her cleavage.
“Seems you three are having fun,” Law said, appearing like a specter from the thick fog, Room dissipating around him. “What did I miss?”
“Just Miss Nami picking Drake’s pocket,” Jean Bart said with a chuckle, picking up the crate of sake that had appeared with his captain and hauling it towards the submarine.
“Dumbass tried to seduce her and got robbed for his troubles,” Shachi explained gleefully, though it was replaced with a low grunt as two massive boxes of assorted gourmet chocolate were dropped into his arms. He let out another oof as Kikoku unceremoniously landed on top of them.
“Drake-ya tried to seduce you?” the captain asked Nami, lips curling into a smirk. “Without my permission? I’m not sure if I should be pissed at him or proud.”
“Does he need your permission to seduce me?” Nami scoffed lightly. “Maybe I should have gone with him; having an actual gentleman for a captain would make a nice change.”
“I’m surprised he didn’t try to appeal to your desire for a more flattering uniform.”
“Wait, they have better uniforms? Drake, come back!” she called mockingly, making a show of trying to run off in the older captain’s direction.
Chuckling, Law caught her arm and pulled her back against him. “Shachi, bring those boxes to the girls’ room and check the cargo hold to make sure we have all the provisions we need.”
“Aye-aye, Captain,” Shachi replied, already halfway to the sub. He knew Law was just giving him busywork to get some alone time with the beautiful thief, but he wasn’t going to argue—if Law wanted to, he could easily just Shambles him to the other side of the island to get rid of him.
The Dark Doctor didn’t get to enjoy that alone time for long, though, as his second mate was quickly replaced by a second redhead, though this one was far more beautiful and curvaceous.
“Hello Law,” Haiko purred, her ruby lips curled upwards in a satisfied smile. In stark contrast to the sexy silver dress she’d preformed in, today she wore a smart black blazer with a tight pencil skirt, though her generous cleavage was tactically on display. “Your work last night was exemplary. I’m going to have to think of new VIP perks to give you. Maybe have Hiroshi write another song.”
Nami tensed at the appearance of the seductive club owner. She still had no idea what was up with her—if Haiko could be fully trusted. Law had said he’d look into it, but had he? Or had he just said that to appease his suspicious shipmate?
“Thank you, Haiko-ya,” Law replied casually, though it didn’t escape Nami’s notice that he placed himself deliberately between the two women. “How are Jinzo’s victims?”
The assured smile fell slightly. “I sent the ones you cured home to their families. The dead will hopefully be identified and given proper burials.”
“And the nymphos?”
“A few are going to try and return to their normal lives. The others…I’ve offered them employment at one of my brothels—if they’re going to crave sex for the rest of their lives, they might as well get paid for it. And at least with me they’ll be safe.”
“Very generous of you.”
Though she waved off the comment, Nami could see the subtle stiffness in her posture—as if she were an actress not entirely comfortable with the character she had to portray. “It’s the least I can do. If I’d taken care of Jinzo earlier, none of this would have happened.”
“I can’t argue with that. Though he must have done a great job covering his tracks to keep both you and Kimo-ya from realizing he intended to muscle in on your territory. What will happen to the black market trade now?”
Her easy confidence returned—when it came to talking business, Haiko was clearly in her element. “Well, since I’ll have my hands full keeping that from imploding, I’m entrusting Oscar with running the red light district. Hiroshi can manage Ruby 8 until things settle down. I admit, since so many of your peers have run off to the New World, the black market’s taken a bit of a dip in profits.”
“And with fewer pirates around, the island’s entertainment and legitimate businesses must have been more accessible to citizens and other visitors.”
“All the more reason to clean this town up, I suppose.”
“Kimo-ya won’t be happy about that,” Law said casually, studying his nails.
She shrugged, though her red lips turned in a subtle frown. “My husband’s a crime lord—to him, rampant rape, drugs, and murder meant that his clientele were happy. But when such a thing is the norm, it’s only a matter of time before you fall victim to it yourself.”
“Of course. It’s easy to rule the underworld when everyone else is a good, law-abiding citizen.”
Seductive smirk returning to her face, Haiko playfully stroked Law’s goatee. “Oh, don’t worry, Dr. Heart Stealer; you’ll still have a place to sell of your ill-gotten goods, and after last night, you can expect VIP treatment at any of Grimm’s fine establishments.”
The Surgeon of Death flashed a devilish smirk. “Good to hear. And without the risk of drugging, rape, and kidnapping, maybe next time we visit, Nami-ya will be able to actually enjoy herself.”
Pulling her hand away from Law’s face, Haiko turned to Nami, green eyes apologetic. “Yes, I heard you were one of the girls Jinzo’s goons drugged. It’s good to see you’re doing well. No one hurt you, did they?”
“I’m fine,” Nami replied, shifting uncomfortably. Though her concern over the thief’s welfare felt sincere, she still wasn’t sure if the island’s new Queenpin had a hand in the island’s drastic power shift, or if she was just taking advantage of the opportunity she’d been presented with her husband and Jinzo’s removal. Her goals at least appeared admirable.
“If you’re ever back in Grimm, you’re welcome at Ruby 8 anytime. In fact, next visit your meals and drinks are on the house.”
Law stepped between them again, and for a brief moment, Nami felt him run a reassuring hand over her back. “Perhaps by that point, Kimo-ya will have recovered—we can make it a double date.”
“Oh, I doubt that,” Haiko stated, a nearly imperceptible tightness in her jaw. “My medical staff says that with the damage he suffered, even if he does wake up, he’ll be confined to his bed for the rest of his life. He took a tremendous fall down the stairs and broke his neck, you see.”
“Was that before or after he was stabbed in the liver?”
Green eyes narrowed. “Excuse me?”
This time, Law blatantly pushed Nami behind him, looming dangerously over the older businesswoman as they stared each other down. “Well, since I seemed to be in the habit of doing you favors, I thought I’d add to my good karma and stop by your house to see if I could do anything to heal your beloved husband. He certainly has a broken neck, and the bruises and cracked skull line up with your story, but that stab wound sticks out like a sore thumb.”
Haiko’s stone-cold expression would put a professional poker player’s to shame. “Well, the fall did break a few steps—perhaps he landed on a sharp piece of wood.”
Law’s own face was just as unreadable. “No, the size and shape clearly indicate that it was a knife. A small one that a lady could easily hide under her dress. I also noticed that your home doesn’t have any stairs.”
Her expression hardened, a fierce green fire flickering in her eyes. “Are you accusing me of harming my husband, Captain Trafalgar?”
“Haiko-ya, you’re a woman I genuinely admire—you’re cunning and determined, yet you still have standards higher than most of the criminal underworld. You’ve come a long way from that underground gin joint you started in the North Blue. You’ve spent years cleaning up the brothels and bars on Grimm; I’d certainly be upset to find my husband was conspiring to undo all of my hard work simply because he couldn’t adapt to the changing times.”
Nami held her breath as she and Law awaited her answer. This was the moment of truth.
“That’s quite the theory you have,” Haiko replied coolly, crossing her arms and raising an auburn eyebrow. The anger in her gaze dimmed down into a tranquil simmer. “Do you have any proof?”
“Nothing physical, nor do I really care—if you stabbed Kimo, I have no doubt it was well-deserved. Perhaps it was even an accident, or in self-defense.”
“Or perhaps you’re just making baseless accusations.”
“Haiko-ya, it doesn’t matter to me what really happened. If anything, I imagine you’ll be a better business partner than either of them. I simply don’t appreciate being used and lied to.”
When she gave no reply, Law gave Nami a meaningful look, gold eyes flicking down to her Clima-Tact before holding her gaze intently. “Nami-ya, why don’t you disappear for a bit? I think this is a conversation Haiko-ya and I should have without an audience.”
Catching on, she nodded, ducking inside the Polar Tang just out of sight. While Law distracted the club owner by leading her towards the edge of the pier, Nami quickly cast her Mirage Tempo, rendering herself invisible so she could sneak back over, footsteps silent as a cat’s paws. For extra measure, she crouched behind a nearby crate, peaking her head over the top so she could watch the duo’s interactions.
Law casually slung his arm over Haiko’s narrow shoulders, dropping his voice so only Nami could eavesdrop. “Look, I know power struggles are common in the underworld, and innocents getting caught in the middle happens. However, this little spat hurt two of my subordinates. I’m sure you understand that, if something like this were to happen again, I’d take it upon myself to wipe out both sides of the conflict in revenge, correct?”
The redhead stiffened. “Of course, Law.”
“Good. Because I respect your reasons—Kimo and Jinzo betrayed you. Tried to undo all your hard work because their own profits were down. Potentially even planned to slip you a little uranos out of spite. But I won’t stand for someone else’s grudge putting my crew in danger. Nor do I tolerate being used—if you want me to kill someone for you in the future, I expect you to be straight with me instead of treating me like a pawn.”
For a moment, Haiko stood in silence, staring out at the churning waves as they slapped against the pier. Finally, she spoke, voice tight and minutely vulnerable. “A few nights ago…Kimo came to Ruby 8 with a few of his thugs after closing. We argued about him helping Jinzo open a brothel under my nose—he said if I didn’t give the red light district back, he’d burn my club to the ground and put me to work as one of the whores.”
“Is that when you stabbed him?” Law asked, tone even and calm.
“Of course. Oscar and the band overheard the commotion and took care of the thugs while I ran, but Kimo followed me to the top of the stairs…”
“Well, that lines up with what Hiroshi told me. I appreciate your honesty.”
“You questioned Hiroshi?” she asked, angered at the musician’s betrayal.
“You forget—he owes me. I guess he also figured I’d be more lenient with you if I knew how you’d been backed into a corner.” Law paused, letting the tension between them simmer before he admitted, “He was right. Kimo deserved what you gave him, and if I hear he’s tragically succumbed to his wounds, well, I won’t shed any tears.”
Haiko sighed, shoulders sagging in relief. “I wanted to trust you, but you had a profitable partnership with Kimo. I couldn’t be sure whose side you’d be on—I just knew it wouldn’t be Jinzo’s.”
“A common enemy is a good hook for an alliance—I just hope you plan to be more honest with me if you intend on maintaining our partnership.”
“Of course.”
A shadow fell across his eyes as he turned the woman so she fully faced him. “Did you know about the uranos shipment?”
“No. Nor was I aware that Venus would be used to distribute it,” Haiko explained, looking him straight in the eye. “The owner was new but on the level; he had my full permission to host a Ladies Night to attract customers. When I went to confront him this morning, I found his body—he’s been dead for at least a few days.”
Nodding at her answer, Law’s somber expression relaxed. “Good. Because not telling me about Kimo and Jinzo’s betrayal is forgivable. Not warning me about the uranos…”
“I am truly sorry your girlfriend and engineer were subjected to that.”
Nami had to physically slap a hand over her mouth to keep from screaming “I’m not his girlfriend!” She doubted Haiko would appreciate it if she found out she was being spied on, and Law would be pissed that she’d ruined his plan.
Perhaps he could feel her rage, because Nami caught Law’s amber eyes glance in her general direction before returning to Haiko. “Pretty words aren’t the kind of apology I’m interested in. I expect compensation.”
Haiko’s confident, naturally seductive grim returned as she leaned in, running a finger along the Heart Pirate insignia on his sweatshirt. “Oh? And what exactly did you have in mind?”
“I’m sure you’ve already thought of something—I doubt you would have come all this way just to say goodbye.”
“That I have; in fact, it’s exactly why I came down here. Two weeks ago, a man named Dira tried to sell Kimo and Jinzo some items. Most of it was junk, but there were a few things that stood out. One of them was a lovely white vase.”
“Are you seriously offering me a vase as reparations for Nami-ya and Ikkaku nearly becoming sex slaves?” he sneered, eyes narrowing in offense. Nami bristled in solidarity. She didn’t care how drop-dead gorgeous Haiko was; unless said vase was made of platinum and filled to the brim with belli and gems, she’d kick the older woman’s ass for being so cheap!
“Oh, no—the vase isn’t even here!” Haiko replied, smile never wavering despite the anger radiating from the Dark Doctor. “Once he realized what it was made from, Kimo turned it down and told the man to take his wares elsewhere.”
“And what, pray tell, was it made of?” Law asked sarcastically, patience wearing thin.
Her manicured hands reached up to smooth out the wrinkles in his sweatshirt. “At first, they thought it was marble or alabaster, but upon closer inspection, Jinzo realized that the white was just paint. It took a little arm-twisting, but Dira admitted that the vase originated from a certain tragic island in the North Blue.”
That immediately caught the surgeon’s attention, and the full focus of those golden eyes was fixated on the club owner. The hostility vanished, replaced by cool intent. “Where did he go?”
“Atifakuto. None of us wanted something coated in Amber Lead, of course, but I remembered you once mentioning that you had an interest in such items. In fact, I even have an eternal pose to the island—I took my last vacation there.” Reaching into her generous cleavage, she pulled out the hourglass-shaped device. As she handed it to the pirate captain, she fluttered her long lashes sweetly. “So, am I forgiven?”
“…for the most part. You’d better not be playing me, Haiko-ya,” Law replied, studying the magnetic compass intently, looking for anything that might give away whether or not it was fake.
“I think I’ve learned my lesson about leading on The Surgeon of Death. You did me a favor, so I’m returning in kind.” Standing up on her tip-toes, she brushed a kiss to his jaw. “I do hope you visit again soon. And treat that Cat Thief of yours right—maybe it’s the red hair, but she reminds me of myself at that age.”
“Unscrupulous and greedy?” he asked, taking her hand and pressing his own farewell kiss to her knuckles.
“And a magnet for dangerous men,” she purred as she flounced away. “Safe travels, Captain Trafalgar. Always a pleasure doing business with you.”
When the new Queenpin of Grimm was out of sight, Nami dropped her illusion, jogging over to Law. “Well, that was…quite the conversation.” Part of her was relieved—Haiko had done some shady things, but she couldn’t fault her reasons. Another part was flattered. She was a dangerous, stunning, formidable woman—someone Nami could certainly admire and wouldn’t mind becoming someday. Though, she hoped she’d manage to avoid marrying someone who’d betray her.
And one tiny, sneaky part of her burned with irrational jealousy over the fact that Haiko had kissed him. It shouldn’t matter—Law was obnoxious and arrogant and certainly not someone she had any intention of kissing when not under duress. But for some reason, she had been really tempted to use her Cyclone Tempo to knock her into the water.
“That it was. Seems a trip to Atifakuto is in order,” Law said lowly, the brim of his hat casting a shadow across his eyes as his tips twisted in a sullen frown.
Nami’s brow furrowed. She knew Law had some kind of interest in Amber Lead, but why would he want to hunt some down? “Is that our next destination?”
He rubbed his goatee in brooding thought as his eyes fixated on the delicate needle pointing towards the horizon. Nami could practically see the wheels in his head turning, an internal argument raging in his mind. His body was as stiff as a cadaver’s, the tendons in his neck straining as he held in whatever powerful emotions he was feeling.
Finally, he shoved the eternal pose into his pocket and answered, “Not yet. I promised you the next island we landed on would be far more relaxing, and I need time to plan, anyway. But don’t expect a long vacation; I can’t let the trail grow cold.”
She sighed in relief. After the horrors of Grimm, she was in desperate need of a breather. Especially if they ended up going after an artifact from Flevance; she’d only heard tragic stories about that place. How they’d once been prosperous and highly-renowned, until the whole country had come down with a horrible, incurable disease. A disease that, if Law was to be believed, hadn’t been as contagious as the World Government had claimed.
Before she could ask any questions, Law pressed his hand between her shoulders, gently but insistently leading her towards the Polar Tang. The darkness in his expression had faded significantly, and his sly smirk was back in place. It felt phony, though—like a mask. “By the way, I appreciate you staying close. Considering what she did to her husband, I half expected Haiko-ya to stab me and push me off the pier.”
“Yeah, I figured you only wanted me there so I could save your ass,” she snipped, though her heart wasn’t quite in it. Law had berated Haiko about being honest with him, yet it felt like he was putting up a front with her. Sure, it wasn’t quite the same—Haiko had been using him, while Law seemed to be just keeping his thoughts to himself—but the slight hypocrisy grated at her.
At the same time, she couldn’t entirely fault him for it. Their relationship and sense of trust in each other had certainly improved over the past twenty-four hours, but she couldn’t blame him for not enlightening her to his troubled thoughts. She only hoped he’d confide in Penguin or Bepo.
“The singular pitfall of wielding the awesome power of a Devil Fruit—water is your nemesis,” he replied sourly.
“Then why’d you lead her so close to the dock’s edge?”
“To make her feel less threatened. Her husband attacked in her own bar. Ruby 8 is as much home to her as the Tang is to us. People value that illusion of safety; when it’s compromised, especially by someone we should trust, it can turn someone into a skittish, feral animal.”
“Ah. Yeah, makes sense,” she replied as they stepped through the submarine door. He definitely had a point—if she’d been attacked on the Thousand Sunny, a place she’d always felt safe and secure in, she’d probably be on-edge for months. “It was still a risky move, though.”
“But a calculated one. Did you really think I’d accuse a woman as cunning and dangerous as her without a plan, or at least a basic understanding of how her mind works?” he asked, dark blue eyebrow raised in annoyance.
“No, but are you confident enough in that understanding to guarantee she’s not sending us to our deaths?”
“Another reason to take a slight detour and recover our strength before heading to Atifakuto,” he said nonchalantly, smirk becoming darker but more genuine. “I’m not particularly worried, though. Haiko and I think alike in many ways; she values long-term planning. She knows she only has one shot at killing me, so she wouldn’t risk it all on a scheme she threw together in a day. She’d wait until I least expected it, even if it took years, all the while carefully moving the pieces into place. And when she struck, she’d get the outcome she wanted no matter how the cards fell.”
“Do you…have someone you’re planning to kill?” Nami asked, a hint of nervousness bleeding into her voice. “Because you sound like you’re speaking from experience.”
“No one you’ve met, and no one you’d miss,” he said vaguely, his hand finally moving from her back so he could climb down the ladder to the next level. “You should worry more about getting stronger and preparing for the New World; Bepo tells me you’re finally ready to start combat training.”
“Let’s just say Grimm’s been a bit of an eye-opener,” she replied, carefully climbing down after him. Her heeled sandals made a reverberating clank as she stepped down onto the metal floor. “Luffy can’t risk me being a liability—if I can’t handle myself in Paradise, I’ll stand no chance on the other side of the Red Line.”
“Exactly why I’m willing to train you—I’d hate to have put in all that effort into saving Mugiwara just for his crew to bring him down.”
Nami glared at him, but he ignored her all the way to his quarters. Upon realizing she’d followed him, his eyebrow arched upwards again, though this time in amusement. “Were you looking for something, Nami-ya? A private tour of the captain’s bedroom, maybe?”
She blushed slightly at his suggestive tone but held her ground. “You gave me crap about keeping secrets from you, and yet you spew out the most irritating non-answers when I ask you a simple question. Your hypocrisy is infuriating.”
“I gave you crap about keeping secrets relevant to your well-being,” he countered easily, slipping inside his room. “Your tenure as a Heart Pirate will be long done by the time I enact my revenge, so it’s nothing you need to worry your pretty little head over, sweetheart.”
Before she could reply or even get a good look at the inside of his quarters, he shut the door in her face.
Staring at the steel barrier, Nami felt her stomach twist uncomfortably.
She trusted Law. She knew he was sincere in his desire to help her train for the New World. That he would protect her until she returned to Weatheria at the end of the year.
She also trusted her gut, and it was screaming that he had ulterior motives. That this generosity, along with his rescue of Luffy, had something to do with some long-term plan.
Trafalgar Law was the lesser evil now, but how long until that changed?

Good/Bad News — Sanji X Reader
Summary: What originally were good news, turned out to be bad. Sanji was forcing himself to turn his back on everyone he loved, including you. And those news felt like a spear through his heart. As much as he wished to turn back, he could never undo the pain he did to you.
Word count: 3.2 K
A/N: This takes place at both the beginning and the ending of Whole Cake Island. Long fragments in italics are flashbacks. I literally wrote this after reading a very angsty fic and I needed to let out those feelings of angst through writing more angst. Adding to the never ending chain of angst. But come on, who doesn’t like to feel pain by reading about your favourite characters? There’s a bit of fluff at the end to help soothe the pain.
Warnings: angst, swearing, abusive language.
There was something special in the way Sanji looked at you. It went without saying. An adoration, a sweet fascination sparked in his eyes when he saw you.
For such a flirty guy, his interest in other women vanished when you were close to him. So, as much of a flirt he was, you were never really worried about Sanji cheating on you. You knew for a fact that it was only you who owned the entirety of his heart and soul.
And the feeling was mutual. Even though you weren't precisely flirty, like Sanji, you reflected in your eyes the same look he gave you. You looked at him with that same unconditional love, an endless, melting love flooded through you whenever you saw him.
However, there was something very different in his eyes now. After beating Luffy, you felt your heart begin to shatter. Little by little. Seeing Luffy on the ground, unconscious, hurt like very few things you’d lived. Your captain's pain became yours as well. Stronger that the physical wounds, the new gap in your chest consumed you. Like poison invading your body, clouding you mind as you tried to convince yourself what you just saw wasn't real. However, your body, shaking in both disappointment and anger said otherwise. Torn between your guttural burning feelings, and your blinded consciousness.
"Luffy!" Nami cried as you walked towards Sanji, who's eyes suddenly were unrecognisable.
"Sanji, I have to talk to you" You growled, your voice lower than ever.
The gentle eyes you loved so much were gone. Replaced by cold hollow eyes. And yet, something at the back of them shone. Something you could very well identify. Pain. The quick glance of sorrow invading his eyes made you feel afraid. Afraid of whatever this might unchain.
Sanji could not stand the pain in your eyes. Suddenly, afraid of the wound he’d just caused in your trust, and anger bleeding out of it. He turned around, ready to head back when you called his name. Feeling a rather uncomfortable lump grew in his throat when your voice broke calling his name. A voice that would pronounce his name in so many different sweet ways, now turned bitter and sour.
Swallowing his pain, he shut his eyes closed reminding himself everything that was at stake. His biological family, his actual family, and Zeff. He needed to keep himself under control. Faking, pretending to be the Vinsmoke he certainly wasn't. Pretending to be the cold hearted warrior his father had so cleverly designed. A human on the outside, incapable of feeling empathy for others. He had to play the part of exactly everything Sanji was not.
He turned around, and that set of empty eyes was back. Looking at you like he had never before. You breathed in deeply, keeping yourself from breaking down in tears. If Sanji was going to be acting this way, so were you. Painfully, biting your tongue to the point of tasting blood made you regain the strength you needed to face whoever he was now. He was not your Sanji, not even close. As much as those two looked alike.
"There's something I've been wanting to tell you for a while now…" you said, your voice serious and monotonous.
"I don't have to hear anything from you, pirate…" He said contemptuously, his eyes scanning you in the most uninterested way.
"Back in Dressrosa, I was hoping to get the chance to talk to you. But you disappeared along with the others" You began, completely ignoring him, and making him curse under his breath.
Dammit, [Name], you’re making this harder, he thought.
"Didn't you hear what I said, you dumb vulgar woman?" He barked turning around, however, you kept talking, knowing he was listening.
"Too bad we had to see each other under this circumstances, I had news you certainly would've loved..."
His mind stopped for a bit, now curious for what you had to say. The more your word played in his head, the more terrified he felt.
"...but, because of this mess, I doubt this news will make you happy like they would've originally have done"
"What makes you think I care for what you have to say?" Hissing he quickly looked at you over his shoulder, keeping his hands inside his pockets.
"I'm pregnant, Sanji" You finally said in a low voice, so only Sanji could hear you.
Sanji's heart broke. Shattered into a million pieces. God, not only he was turning his back to his friends, especially to you. He was also turning his back on his chance of starting a family of his own. He would be lying if he said he hadn’t thought of starting a family with you. It was in his plans after all, once you all found the One Piece, and after he found the All Blue. He liked to fantasize about it; a family. A real family, not like whatever the Vinsmokes were supposed to be. And it made sense, you’d been acting weird since you arrived to Punk Hazard.
Something he’d been wanting, dreaming of for a while, it was right before him, but he would never be able to reach it now.
What Sanji didn’t know was that, once Doflamingo was defeated, Law noticed you were looking pale. And after talking to him, he popped a question. You remembered his low voice echoing, your heart stopping and the world spinning quicker.
“Oi, [Name]-ya, did you hear me?” Law raised his voice, staring at you, as all tthe pieces in your head came together.
“I-I...yes…” You sighed breathless with fear.
“So?”
“Now that you mention it…” You sighed. “My period is one week late...and I’ve had the weirdest cravings…” Law had ah ard time listening to what you were saying, your voice couldn’t be lower.
“Does Chopper-ya know?” He crossed his arms over his chest.
“I was going to tell Chopper after all of this ended” For the first time you made eye contact with the surgeon.
“When we’re back at your ship, tell him to run some blood test” He said before standing up and leaving.
On your way to Zou, you felt how time froze. You were both happy and terrified. You wanted to tell Sanji so bad. You needed to tell him. It was certainly the worst timing, but maybe you two could figure something out, the entire crew could help you guys out. However, once you made it to the moving island, Sanji was gone.
“And you expect me to believe that bulshit?” Sanji growled. “Do you want to make me believe I am the father?” As soon as he spoke, he regretted what he’d said. He didn’t even have to turn around to picture your face. He knew he’d crossed the line. Hinting that you were some sort of slut? Low blow. “[Name]” He whispered coldly, hoping that it’d make everything better.. “Don’t tell anyone that you’re pregnant with my child” His words low enough for you to hear, but also sharp enough to pierce your heart.
Right after feeling how your heart stopped the moment Sanji started talking, you then got angrier than ever at that moment. Not realising the intention in which Sanji mean his last words. Forgetting completely about the fact that he had just called you both promiscuous and a liar. You interpreted his words in a selfish way in which his reputation could be destroyed if someone found out the Prince of Germa 66 had a bastard child with a pirate. However, Sanji meant those words to keep the child’s identity a secret, and keep everyone safe. But you wouldn’t realise it.
“I hope you enjoy your life as a prince” You purred, and Sanji still turning his back at you, could not decipher your voice tone, it was monotonous. “And I hope you enjoy your wedding, and your new wife. Really, I hope you live a happy life” The lack of emotion in your voice killed him.
What hurt him the most was how despite your endless anger, you still meant every word you said. You were pissed at him, but still loved him enough to wish him a happy life.
Your ever present kindness even though how unfair the situation could be, was Sanji’s favourite trait of you. And right now, that same kindness he loved so much was tearing him apart painfully.
His heart squeezing painfully as he walked back to the carriage. He wished he could turn around and kiss you. Turn around and hold you. Tell you how much he loved you, and how he happy was at the thought of having a child with the love of his life. In his head, the entire scenario played, showing him what he could have, if only he wasn’t such a coward.
A coward. As much as he knew he could break free from it all if he put his mind to it, the fear blocked his mind. So much depended on him marrying Pudding. The golden bracelets weighed him down. Tying him like a desperate dog to an abusive owner. As every step tore the both of you apart. he felt the distance weight him down as well. Trying his best to keep his tears, he groaned painfully.
"Thank you for waiting" he growled lowly, trying to mask his pain. "We can leave now"
~
Whole Cake Island had been by far, the worst experience ever. The entire time you felt the adrenaline kicking in, followed by the desire to survive. And you knew this wasn't healthy at all at your current condition. You knew coming here was a mistake, you should’ve probably listened to your crew when you decided to go with Luffy to save Sanji..
"[Name], you shouldn't go to Whole Cake Island" Chopper said, his voice firm.
"He's right, [Name]-ya" Law added "The less stressed you are, the better"
"I have to go” You growled “We're talking about Sanji, If you really want to stop me, you'll have to kill me"
"Why are you guys suggesting that [Name] stays?" Nami asked.
"She could have a miscarige" Law said coldly, his eyes matching his voice.
"I will be fine"
"[Name] will be coming with us. I will protect the both of them" Luffy said standing next to you, crossing his arms over his chest. "We'll have a better chance of bringing Sanji quickly if she's with us"
"Strawhat-ya, I want you to understand how dangerous this is. If something happens to her, and she has a miscarige, she'll not only lose the child, but her life will.be in danger as well" The way the both of them exchanged stares was almost intimidating. However, Luffy’s smile grew across his face.
"Nothing will happen to [Name]. I will protect her with my life" Textbook Luffy, putting his life on the line, that confident smile framing his face perfectly.
"Luffy…" You whispered, your eyes getting teary.
"Can you imagine having a baby as a nakama? I wonder how that'll be" Luffy’s squinted, his smile now turning warm and welcoming.
His gentle smile always soothed you whenever you felt nervous or afraid. Luffy wasn't your best friend for no reason. As oblivious as he could be, he knew how to calm your nerves. Whenever something bothered you, it only took that smile to make you feel like you could breathe again.
And right now, you needed that smile more than ever. Cuddled up in the infirmary, you kept thinking of both Luffy and Sanji. The crew was waiting for them in the Sunny. As soon as those two stepped on the ship, you all were going to flee the island.
After Chopper gave you a quick examination, and everything turned to be alright, you started crying. The little reindeer didn't blame you for crying. Everything was too overwhelming. Everything about this island had been so terribly overwhelming, adding the fact that your hormones were all over the place.
You asked Chopper to leave you alone. What you needed right now was being able to cry your eyes out, alone.
"[Name], if you need something, feel free to call me, okay?"
"Thank you, Chopper" Your voice shook lightly as Chopper closed the door behind him.
And as soon as you heard the door close, it seemed like it was the green light to endless tears. Your pain streaming down your face.
Right now you wished for either Sanji or Luffy to walk inside and hug you. A real tight hug. However, for the next several minutes you kept silently sobbing, the pain in your chest not getting any better. A consuming loneliness kept feeding to the gap in your chest, keeping the tears falling endlessly from your eyes. At least until you fell asleep.
By the time Sanji and Luffy made back to the Sunny, Luffy was deeply asleep. Without disturbing him much, Sanji placed him on the grass, where he seemed to sleep comfortably. At once, his eyes scanned the ship, looking at each and everyone in the ship. Brook, Nami, Chopper, Jimbei…but not you. You were not there with everyone else.
“Wheres [Name]?” Sanji asked getting more and more worried by the second.
“In the infirmary” Chopper answered.
“Is she alright?” His voice came out louder than he intended, giving away his concern.
“Yes. The both of them. She asked me to leave her alone" Chopper exchanged stares with Sanji, who was breathing heavily.
“Thanks, be right back” He said taking long steps towards the infirmary door.
He could feel his heart sinking in his chest. He hadn’t talked to you, or seen you since that awful encounter when he fought Luffy. Sanji was aware he had hurt you badly. Very, very badly. He had hurt himself in the process as well. Having to act so careless to such big news, painfully turning his back towards you, keeping a straight voice, and his burning tears from falling. The lump on his throat hurt as much as his shattered heart.
Once he reached the door, he held the door knob and froze. What was he going to say? He didn’t think this through. He was going to apologise, that was for sure. But, how? How exactly was he supposed to ask for forgiveness?
I’m sorry, [Name], I had to keep an act for my family…
I had these explosive bracelets, you see I had to—
It was the only way…
Lame. The more he thought about it, the lamer and more pathetic the excuses became. But that was the problem. They were all excuses, weren’t they? Swallowing the lump on his throat, he wished for his mind to shut up. All of those thoughts were suffocating him, making him wish to either turn back in time before all of this mess happened, or fast forward to the time after he apologised regardless of the outcome.
Once he finished swallowing his poor mental apologies, and gathered the strength to actually push the door open,he did it slowly. The room dark and silent. The door opening so slowly it didn’t even break the peaceful silence. And there you were, asleep on the couch.
Looking at your curled up position, Sanji knew right away you’d cried yourself to sleep. And that thought alone made his eyes tear up immediately. As we walked closer, he saw dried tears on your face. Confirming what he first thought. You were soundly asleep, breathing deeply.
He sighed, a single tear falling down his cheek. The lump in his throat growing considerably. He brushed your hair so delicately, trying not to wake you. However, as he tried his best, your eyes flickered open.
At first slowly, until your sight adjusted, and remembered you’d fallen asleep on the infirmary. There was a dry feeling on both your eyes. Your gaze moves, the slumber still clinging from your lids as you looked at Sanji, who’s hand was gently caressing your hair.
The amount of pain and regret in his eyes was overwhelming by itself. You didn’t even want to think how the guy was feeling inside. And yet, underneath that decrepit mask was the look Sanji always gave you. Swimming among those feelings of anguish was that unconditional love. His eyes, already teary, got much worse as your stare connected to his.
Before you could even articulate any words, Sanji grabbed your hand, shut his eyes closed, kneeled next to the bed and started crying. An awkward apology came out in sobs. His voice low and shaky. However, everything he was saying came out of his broken heart, going out his lips with no filter.
“I’m so sorry [Name]-chan! I was such an asshole, I should not have treated you that way. I was so scared and overwhelmed by everything else. I panicked and let the worst part of me take over. If you chose to break up with me, to never talk to me again, I would not blame you, I treated you badly and said some very mean things to you” Finally, he’d broken down, crying, his forehead pressed against your hand.
Your eyes felt dry, but that didn’t last long. Sanji’s pain reflected on you, and soon, you were crying too. Silent tears falling down your cheeks. You brushed his hair with your other hand without saying anything. At least not until he looked back up, his eyes connecting with yours.
Another new look gazed at you. This one was the open window to his shattered heart. The pain, the regret, the overwhelming disappointment in himself. You could both see and feel everything he was carrying on his shoulders.
“It’s alright” Whispering, you met his stare. “I forgive you, my love” Your voice shaky.
For a brief second, everything hurt twice as much. That kindness broke him a second time. He hugged you and cried burying his face on your neck. His hands clung to you with such strength and desperation. His entire body was shaking. You hugged him back, wrapping one arm around his back, and the other one caressing his hair gently.
“What did I do to be blessed with someone like you? It’s not fair, you deserve someone so much better…”
“Hey” You snapped. “Don’t say that” You sobbed softly. “Don’t you ever say that again, or I’ll punch you in the face” You threatened with a broken voice.
Sanji chuckled softly and pulled back. His teary eyes staring into yours. A small smile on his lips. A small smile that still managed to make your heart skip a beat. Leaning closer, he kissed the tip of your nose and then rested his forehead against yours.
“So...we’re pregnant, huh?” You chuckled at his question, your low laugh caressing his ears warmly.
“Yes, we are” You answered.
Sanji at once cupped your face and brought you closer. His lips very gently, very lightly pressing against yours. The same delicacy as the first time you kissed. When you kissed him back, you locked your lips with his. Wrapping your arms around his shoulders, you brought him closer. That sweet taste in your lip Sanji loved so much felt surreal for a brief second. His chest breathless, his heart going a thousand miles per hour, his head light with charm, and his belly filled with butterflies. Not believing his luck, not feeling deserving of his second chance. But he didn’t care. He promised himself he would never push you away like that again, hurt you again, make you cry again.

Straw-Hat Pirates Death Headcanons
So someone on one my fics took up on my enthusiastic invitation in my end-author notes to ask me about my death headcanons for the Straw-Hat Pirates. (Shoutout to Jeanne-Crab on ao3 for that comment!) I was typing out my answer to that question and realised that I had Way More To Say About It Than I Thought, so I thought i might as well put it up as a post on my tumblr!
I’ll split this into two parts; my headcanons for SHP’s deaths as I think it could happen in canon, and then specifically in how it would happen in the universe as set in my fic, like the seas, you live on (in me). (Shameless plug here: If you like zosan, and also appreciate angst and hurt/comfort, read my fic? It’s zosan-but-kind-of-not-but-also-kinda-is, it’s complicated, but it’s 30k and I worked Super Hard on it and I personally think it’s pretty good so if please give it a shot! Do Read The Tags Before Reading It, Though, because I would never want to cause people unnecessarily extreme distress. And read my other fics too if you want WHOOP) Anyway, without ado, here’s my headcanons for Straw-Hat Pirates’ deaths. This is a very very Very Long post, so buckle up:
AS PER CANON
First off: Everybody, by the time of their death, has achieved their life’s dreams, because of course they have. (I won’t hear of anything otherwise, go away!!)
Luffy: Luffy dies in the war on Raftel, or wherever the final battle for being Pirate King happens. He definitely becomes Pirate King, don't get me wrong, but he dies very soon after because of his injuries and because of the amount of his lifespan he has traded in using his Gears. This is the one headcanon I think (FEAR) will happen - Oda's constant allusion to Luffy's lifespan in his use of Gears and things like that just feels so suspect to me in this regard...
Luffy is buried near where Ace is, because that's what he would've wanted and so that's what the Straw-Hat Pirates did. Not right next to Ace (because that would mean Luffy’s also buried right next to Whitebeard and that doesn't feel right to me for some reason), but somewhere close by, either on the other side of the same island or on an island very, very close by. His emblematic pirate flag is erected on his grave, and its symbol flaps ceaselessly in the wind, always in the direction of where the sea is closest to. (And next to a village called Foosha, however, deep in the heart of a mountain called Mt. Colubo, a monument to a boy is erected posthumously by the mountain bandits and villagers who live there, at the base of a tree where a dilapidated treehouse still stands despite all the years.)
Luffy is the only one to die so young; the rest don't die until years later. By that time, though, they've long stopped sailing together as the Straw-Hat Pirates. Think of it like how Gol D. Roger's pirates split themselves off after the death of their captain; they're still friends for sure, and they hold each other as very precious, but there is no point or need to sail together as pirates anymore after the death of their captain, whom they have rallied themselves with.
For the rest, I'm not sure who will die first, because within the One Piece canon literally So Many Things can happen, but here’s their burial arrangements:
Brook: Brook was interesting to figure out, because he's technically already died once before. I was trying to work out what the implications of his devil fruit is (is he immortal? But given the reverence given to Law's Immortality Surgery, that doesn't seem likely), and I decided that users of Brook's devil fruit will go once they decide it's time to just...go. So that's what Brook did. He lived until Laboon finally passes on, to make sure Laboon is never left behind again, and then he gathers the rest of the Straw-Hat Pirates in one place, says his goodbyes, and simply...leaves. His bones collapse on the ground with no spirit to hold them up, and per his request his bones are scattered over West Blue. His violin and sword cane are erected as part of a monument next to Luffy’s grave.
Robin: I’m not precisely sure HOW Robin would die, but probably for her she would die quite peacefully, of old age. Frankly speaking, after all she’s been put through from childhood to adulthood, she deserves a little peace at least at the end of her life. Robin’s monument next to Luffy’s grave is a simple pair of crossed arms made of pale marble (one of the hands holds a book). Her body isn’t buried there, however; in the West Blue, on a barren stretch of scorched land that people say used to be called Ohara, a singular grave can be found in the centre of it.
Franky: His monument next to Luffy’s grave is of his blue metal forearms (one of which is holding a little hammer). Franky's grave of his human parts, however, are buried on Water 7, at the spot where him and Iceburg and Tom used to work on trains together. A mini replica of Sunny shaped out of metal is on top of it, to tell everyone that the shipwright that built the second pirate ship that ever sailed to Raftel lies here.
Usopp: Unlike everybody else, Usopp asks to have his burial place split into two places. To make this easier, he’s cremated. One half of his ashes is buried in Syrup Village, next to his mother’s grave, and the other half of him is buried under a monument next to Luffy’s. On his monument are the words, “The Bravest Warrior of the Sea, Sniper Usopp, A Giant Among Men” (or words to that effect). His crewmates chose those words for him. His Sogeking mask is hung on his monument. His grave in Syrup Village, however, is much simpler; his original green slingshot is fastened to it (and will slowly wear down, over the years, to an unrecognisable sun-bleached stump), and on it are the words “The greatest liar of Syrup Village that has ever lived”.
Nami: Nami also gets a monument next to Luffy’s grave. (Okay right at this point just assume that every Straw-Hat Pirate has a monument next to Luffy’s grave!!) However, like Robin and Franky, her monument doesn’t have her body. Nami is buried at Cocoyashi, at the cliff overlooking the sea where her mother Belle-mere was (and where her sister is/was buried too, depending whether Nami dies before or after Nojiko does). With her in the grave is the original copy of the world map she has made, her greatest triumph.
Zoro: Zoro probably dies the most second most violent death after Luffy, what with being the world’s greatest swordsman and all. Probably he is killed/ mortally wounded by someone who comes to take his title, as he probably did to Mihawk before him. He’s cremated, and his ashes are buried next to Luffy’s as Luffy’s first mate and right-hand man (Zoro is first mate even if it was never officially stated!!!). His swords, however, are a different story; Wado Ichimonji I believe Zoro requests to be brought back to Shimotsuki, and put next to Kuina’s grave. As for the other two swords, I don’t know HOW precisely it will happen but it’s left out in the wide world for whoever is worthy to wield them again, because I think Zoro wouldn’t believe in keeping the blades for himself post-mortem.
Sanji: He also gets a monument next to Luffy. His body, however, is not there; when Sanji dies he is cremated and his ashes are scattered throughout All-Blue, where a floating restaurant called the Baratie now stays; the most famous restaurant there is in the entire world, and it’s unique in that no matter who you are, if you are hungry and come through the door, you get to eat.
Chopper: He’s probably the last one to die, I think. Not only because he’s the youngest but also because he’s a doctor, I’m sure he knows how to heal himself up whenever he gets sick. His body is buried next to Luffy’s grave, but on Drum Island, there is a monument with a distinctive hat design erected underneath the base of a sakura tree; the tree, despite the wintry climate of the island, blooms pink and full all year round. (Chopper worked with Usopp on genetically developing a sakura horticulture that could do that, before their deaths).
Jinbe: Jinbe buried underneath the sea, but close to where sunlight will always shine bright because that has always been the fishmen’s dream. His underwater grave bears his past as a Sun Pirate and all the contributions and sacrifices he has made for his people, but his monument on land, he is noted (like all the others), as a most dearly and beloved member of the Straw-Hat Pirates, one whose loyalty never wavered, up until the end.
Monuments of Going Merry and Thousand Sunny are erected, because ships are crewmates too.
AS PER MY FIC’S UNIVERSE
In terms of burial arrangements, everything I said about all the Straw-Hats above are applicable here (unless stated otherwise below), PLUS what I will say here below:
Robin and Franky: I think in my fic, Robin and Franky would be the first to die, because they're the oldest (save for Brook). In my fic’s universe it is Never Mentioned but Franky and Robin are as good as married, and had spent their whole lives together (I'm sorry but Frobin is Real to me and you can pry it out of my cold dead hands). Their monuments are side-by-side next to Luffy's. On top of their monuments holding their respective items, their monuments' hands hold each other's.
Chopper: Chopper has yet to die at the time of my fic, but when he does, whatever I described above will apply. At the point of the fic he has already worked out the horticulture of the ever-blooming sakura tree and it has already been planted in Drum Island, and has been growing steadily for years.
Zoro and Sanji: Zoro and Sanji have yet to die at the time of my fic. Their burial arrangements would be the same, however. As for HOW they might die, I recommend you read my fic to find out! (I can’t give away all my cards, obviously.)
That’s all! This has become an awfully long post, and I commend you if you managed to reach this far to the end. Let me know what you think of this: do you agree? Disagree? I would love to discuss this with people, it would be very fascinating, no matter how thoroughly sad. In the meantime, if you’d like to read any one piece fanfiction, feel free to check out my ao3 :)

Happy Monday, minna-san! I hope everyone is surviving the cold winter. Spring is coming soon so hang in there. With that, we’re on schedule and ready to report so you know the drill. First off, last week’s chapter is in jeopardy. Robin is face to face with Oniwaban ninjas lead by a jerk name Fukurokuju. He demanded her to reveal her reason for snooping around. She then states “ox-three boy.” With that, the ninjas attacked her, but luckily it was her clone. She then runs off to a safe location and gets in touch with Shinobu, Nami, and Brook to confirm about the Oniwaban protecting the castle. The ninjas then scattered to find Robin. Shen then was able to return to the banquet and Orochi calls for her with no means to escape except to blend in. Komurasaki then keeps on flirting with Orochi. Other men feel jealous towards him, but Kyoshiro tells them that she is a high courtesan that doesn’t fall for anyone. So then they start talking about the trouble occurring in the capital (note: Sanji’s trouble). So Orochi says that they make a toast of the death of Lord Oden and how his wife, Lady Toki, spoke of some revenge that will come someday with the help of the nine samurais of the Kozuki clan. He claimed all of Oden’s followers were killed by Kaido and the trouble occurring in the capital would be Kinemon’s doing. So everyone’s believing that some of Oden’s followers and Momo still live and must be destroyed by all means. The rest of the guests don’t believe in the return of the Kozuki clan, but Orochi apparently believes they’re alive. Suddenly, a huge laughter bursts out of nowhere and it was none other than the cute O-toko-chan. Everyone’s is in shocked while the courtesans are trying to keep her quiet. Hearing here laughter made Orochi angry and walks towards to her to kill here. However, Komurasaki stepped to speak on her behalf, but Orochi tells her to keep quiet and strike at O-toko-chan, but missed. The courtesans begged the guests to save her, but refused. At the end, Komurasaki slapped him hard leaving everyone in utter shock. One of them yells at her to apologize and bow to Orochi, but she refused saying she is in her right to defend. He tells her that he was going to marry her, but she refused and says that she is a woman of honor and daughter of a warrior that won’t yield to authority. Orochi got angry and transformed into a nine-headed dragon yelling at her that she is nothing but a concubine with no rights. Everyone panicked. Robin grabbed O-toko-chan, but was found by one of the Oniwaban ninjas with Kyoshiro ready to fight. GUA! So much scary trouble! Who is this Komurasaki? What is her purpose? Who is this ox-three boy everyone speaks of? Is Kyoshiro a bad guy or an ally? GAH! So many questions! Don’t miss this week’s chapter! Next, last weekend’s episode had everyone on their guard as all of the siblings ready to kill Luffy when he comes out of the mirror. Meanwhile, Pekoms tells Luffy he will at all costs make sure he survives and use his sulong power to keep the siblings away from him. However, he worries that his transformation might make him lose control, and that Pedro was the only who ever reached out to him. At sea, Nami and the gang reached Cacao island, but with many fleets of Big Mom pirates surrounding them and behind Smoothie’s fleet also on pursuit. Finally it was 1 am! Pekoms comes out with Brulee and transformed into his sulong form attacking everyone. During his transformation, Luffy comes out of his clothes. Sanji then comes in to scoop him out, but was chased by the other siblings. Pekoms helped them, but also attacked Sanji. Just was he was about to strike him, he heard Pedro’s voice and tells Sanji to leave while he backs them up. Poor Pekoms was trapped and injured and at the end, just when the boys was about to meet their end, Germa comes in to the rescue. Next time, a final goodbye to his Germa family as they try to help Sanji and Luffy escape to Sunny. Don’t miss it! Now on with the goods! First, look who came to drop by in this cold weather, Tongari-san! Let’s make it quick so you can keep yourself warm, my friends. Tells us what’s the jig? Tongari-san says more awesome stuff has been announced to celebrate the 4th anniversary. First, more goods! Tower will be selling these anniversary buttons of the Straw Hats including a special anniversary button. All will be in random package. Next, they’ll sell this double side folder with the tower and Luffy on both sides, this long anniversary towel, and this pricey glass clock of Luffy. The store will also have a sticker campaign on the first day until the 31st. They’ll be giving out lottery tickets to the first hundred people so it’s first come, first serve, and will post the lottery numbers. If you see the number on the ticket, you will receive a free ticket by making a 500 yen purchase. Lastly, the awesome Oda-sensei drew this new design for the shopping bags of Luffy getting his eye poked by Ussop’s long nose. GUA! So much fun stuff. If you’re visiting the city, be sure to stop by to join the fun. Next, this Thursday, all arcades will be stocking this new figurine of Luffy from G x materia. Get those coins ready and put your crane skills to the test! Next, more new stuff at stores! First, store in Shibuya and Osaka will be taking reservations to design silver rings from DIY Jewelry. You have the choice to choose one symbol to be engraved on your ring. They have 65 designs. Only will take phone reservations. Next, more Tamago goods! Stores will be selling these new adorable tamago plushies of Luffy, Zoro, Sanji, Nami, Chopper, and Ussop, these hand towels of Luffy with his bros, Koala, Law, & Bepo, and this yellow one with only Law & Bepo, and these double side pillows of Ace/Sabo & Law/Bepo. Moving on, Tokyo Chocolat were selling these new Valentine chocolates and were sold out immediately. If you spot any Tokyo Chocolat shop in your part of the city, be sure to check in the store to see if they have any left. It’s a great gift for a friend or for yourself. Next, OP game app, Thousand Storm, is having a small Valentine campaign. Win enough points you will receive Tashigi and Vivi w/ Karue in their Valentine outfits. You would also receive your prize image of the girls as well. Last, but not least, new DVDs! First, here is vol.19 of WCI that has Luffy in snakeman mode. It will be released in April. Next, here are the covers of the special Log Collections of the ASL brothers. If you order either of it, you’ll receive a double side coaster as a gift. Luffy will have episodes of Nami, East Blue, Chopper and the sakura miracle, and Alabasta which will be released on March 29th. Ace will have episodes of Sky Island, Merry-Go-Round, and 3D2Y which will be released on April 26th. Lastly, Sabo will have episodes of Hand Island, Bond of Brothers, Adventure in Neverlandia, and Heart of Gold which will be released on May 24th. Phew! I think that’s everything. Tune in next week for more news and all. Special thanks to Tongari-san. Stay warm, my friend. Boys! Let’s call it a night.

Bookshelf Briefs 12/16/21
In which Sean valiantly goes it alone yet again.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, Vol. 1 | By Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe | Viz Media – This is award-winning, which piqued my interest, and also a rare Shonen Sunday license, which did as well. Turns out the hype is justified. This is a beautiful and poignant story about the elf of a hero’s party who, after they slay the demon lord and break up to go their separate ways, discovers that she has no idea how people who are not her think, be they human, dwarf, or what. She realizes this too late to talk with the hero, and almost too late to talk to the party’s priest, but eventually decides that she needs to experience more in life, and learn how people who don’t have thousand-year lifespans live. The first volume spans about 6-7 years, so our own sense of time may be skewed. It has humor and heart. – Sean Gaffney
My Lovey-Dovey Wife Is a Stone Cold Killer, Vol. 1 | By Donten Kosaka | Seven Seas – This manga is here for one reason and one reason alone, and that’s the lovey-dovey part of the title. It absolutely does not want the reader to think too hard about her other job beyond as a means for comedy. Certainly the husband doesn’t—as the title begins, he already knows his wife kills people for a living, and is absolutely fine with it. The book itself is filled with romcom staples—though it’s worth noting that, as with apparently quite a few Japanese couples—these two have been married for months and their sex life is still 100% absent. But that’s OK, we still have disapproving sister-in-laws, going out to shop, and trying to understand your partner’s needs even when they’re a husband, not a target. For fans of We’re New at This. – Sean Gaffney
My Next Life As a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom!, Vol. 6 | By Satoru Yamaguchi and Nami Hidaka | Seven Seas – This is pretty much the same as what I said about the series last time: if you’ve read the novels and seen the anime, it’s almost unnecessary. The ‘almost’ part is because Nami Hidaka (who also illustrates the light novels) is clearly having fun doing a full manga version, and the expressions that she gives everyone can be highly entertaining. This especially goes for Susanna/Lana/Larna, who manages to make “I am first in line to be the Queen” easily the least interesting of the jobs she’s currently doing. This wraps up the third novel, and I assume volumes seven and eight will take on the fourth, which is… well, not a popular book, shall we say. But hey, it’s Bakarina. You know you have to take the bad with the good. – Sean Gaffney
Skip & Loafer, Vol. 2 | By Misaki Takamatsu | Seven Seas – Still enjoying the general mood of this title more than anything else. Mitsumi is the sort of character who would simply be an airheaded flake in lesser series, but here she’s not only quite smart and studious, but also good at figuring out ways that she may have accidentally screwed up socially and trying to fix them. This is good, as her not-yet love interest Shima is a very tough nut to crack—a childhood acting career has left him adrift, and he seems to be perfectly happy to stay that way. An upcoming volleyball game is also handled well—Mitsumi is bad at sports, and has to be trained by Egashira, who is still angry at Mitsumi for bad reasons, but does it anyway. The result… is that Mitsumi noticeably improves, but isn’t great. Best realism in Manic Pixie Dream Girl manga. – Sean Gaffney
Snow White with the Red Hair, Vol. 16 | By Sorata Akiduki | Viz Media – This arc with Shirayuki being away is, frankly, taking forever, so it’s no real surprise that it shifts its focus for most of it to Mitsuhide and Kiki. They’re a popular fan pairing, they get ship tease here and there, but… honestly, it does not seem as if the author is all that into them. Things are not helped by her primary husband candidate seeming to clean up his act and pursue her hand with greater effort. That said, the largest problem might be that her other candidates for marriage keep getting attacked. There are a few candidates, but the cliffhanger tells us that the prime suspect is … well, just who we don’t want it to be. If Shirayuki and Zen’s romance is obvious and forthright, Mitsuhide and Kiki’s is deceptive and fluid. Great stuff, though. – Sean Gaffney
Species Domain, Vol. 11 | By Shunsuke Noro | Seven Seas – Having crushed Kazanori’s spirit, and suggested that Ohki might in fact be asexual, we now need to remember how this manga initially started and work on getting the two of them together. It’s going to be tough, but Ohki starts to get a clue here and there as the manga goes on, which is more than he’s done the previous ten, so that’s good. In fact, all the pairings look close to becoming official by the end of the book, which is likely why a cliffhanger is thrown in with Jin and Hanei being in danger from an unknown assailant. This book should have ended a while back—its humor is not quite as sharp anymore, and some of these romances have dragged—but I still enjoy it as a unique sort of title that manages to go several places without actually offending. – Sean Gaffney
Sweat and Soap, Vol. 10 | By Kintetsu Yamada | Kodansha Comics – The start of the book is entirely dedicated to defusing the situation we had in the last volume, and it’s handled, as the rest of the series has done, with love, communication, and reaching across to help each other. With a good dose of loving sex at the end as a reward, of course. Now that Asako’s issues with her body odor have mostly been taken care of, it’s wedding time. The actual marriage is a quick license ceremony, with the wedding itself being done months later. That said, they chose a date which leaves them very little time in which to plan, and I suspect the final volume (the next) may feature some crises. Still, at least we get Asako in not one but THREE wedding dresses—all of which are wrong for her, alas. Still fantastic. – Sean Gaffney
Takane & Hana, Vol. 18 | By Yuki Shiwasu | Viz Media – As with the last volume, this final volume of Takane & Hana is here to remind you that all the drama and conflict have been dealt with beforehand, and we can just enjoy the two leads playfully at each other’s throats. My favorite part may be during the wedding reception, when guests wonder if Hana really thinks she deserves to be Takane’s wife, and she responds point blank “I absolutely do.” Hana’s self-confidence and ability to tear Takane a new one when he needs it have been the main reason to read this. There’s also a limited-edition volume with a different cover and a 30-page booklet with a “7 years later,” showing Hana had triplets (!!!) and that everyone else is doing fine. This was one of the funniest shoujo manga I’ve read in years. I’ll miss it. – Sean Gaffney

Shinsenvember 16 - Family Back Home
Prompt list here.
“I think there’s something wrong with Hijikata today,” Nagakura commented to the other captains over lunch. “He was going through the expense accounts and smiling.”
“The expense accounts must be in order then,” said Saitou. Nagakura was exaggerating, surely. Saitou could call to mind many occasions on which the Vice-Commander had been smiling.
Souji snorted. “Sorry, Hajime, wrong guess. I’ll tell you why he’s smiling. He got a letter from his brother-in-law this morning.”
Shinpachi nodded. Everyone here knew Sato Hikogorou, one of the Shinsengumi’s most loyal sponsors. He had donated a great deal of money to his brother-in-law’s organization, money they’d desperately needed in the days before they were given recognition by their superiors. Saitou had never met the man, but he had great respect for him. It was Sato, he knew, who had introduced Kondou to young Hijikata. And Sato’s wife Toku was Hijikata’s beloved older sister.
“Hikogorou wrote that his daughter Nami gave birth to a healthy boy,” Souji continued.
“Oho! That’s wonderful!” Nakagura replied. “That’s their first grandkid, isn’t it?”
Souji nodded. “It makes you think though . . .”
“Think what?”
“Well, if Toku’s a grandmother now, that means Hijikata-san is a great-uncle.”
Saitou didn’t find anything amusing about this fact, but most of the captains laughed. Heisuke spat out the mouthful of food he was chewing.
“Well, that’s revolting,” said Nagakura.
“I was going to choke!” Heisuke’s face was turning red. “Old Man Hijikata!” He burst out laughing again.
“The Vice-Commander is a few years younger than his sister, is he not?” asked Saitou. “And one does not have to be that old to become a grandmother.”
“Good job we have Saitou to defend the Vice-Commander against the charge of being old,” teased Nagakura.
“Thirty is not young, but I would not call it old.” Saitou ignored Shinpachi’s jibe. “I am going to go congratulate Hijikata-san.”
Saitou found Hijikata sitting at his writing desk with a long scroll laid out before him. He was readying his brushes. When Saitou offered his congratulations, his face lit up with a rare soft smile.
“The baby’s mother - I was twelve when she was born. My sister’s first child,” he told Saitou. “I carried that little girl around whenever the women let me. And now she’s got her own little one. I’m writing some verses to wish the boy good fortune.”
“I think they will be very glad to receive that from you,” Saitou replied.
“Yes, also Toku would probably send someone to remind me if I didn’t send something special. Hmmm, Saitou, what about you? Do you ever hear from your family?”
Saitou froze. Hijikata was the only person in the Shinsengumi to whom he had confessed the entire terrible story of his flight from Edo. In turn, Hijikata had never pressed him for more details or asked him further about his past. “Vice-commander, you know why and how I left Edo,” he said slowly.
Hijikata nodded. “Yes. It’s been three years. The case has been smoothed over. It might not be wise to return to Edo, but you could at least write to them.”
Saitou considered this. He could. Perhaps they would be happy to hear that he was doing well for himself in Kyoto. They had not deserved his neglect. His parents had not understood his determination to be a warrior on his own terms, but they had not blocked his path. He gratefully remembered his father telling his older siblings to leave off trying to correct his left-handed stance. His father hadn’t approved of his younger son’s stubborn behaviour, but he’d tolerated it.
“I do not want to cause them further trouble,” he told Hijikata. “There is a risk that case could be stirred up again if others caught wind of my letter.”
Hijikata sighed. “If that is your decision . . .”
“Perhaps, in a couple more years, I will feel free to write,” Saitou tried to reassure him. It felt as though the Vice-Commander was the one he was letting down, not his own family. And that felt terrible. But it was the right decision for him. “Please continue with your calligraphy. I should like to watch, if I may.”
Hijikata brightened up again. “This will be the first rough copy. I would be grateful for your input. One day, this little boy will be a warrior himself, and I hope he’ll cherish my wishes, whether I’m alive or not.”
“He will,” Saitou replied quickly. “I’m certain of that.”
The poem Hijikata sent for the baby.
Author’s notes: What I’d give to have a translation of the poem Hijikata wrote for his grand-nephew. If you read Japanese, this webpage gives the details of the poem, which is now at the Sato family’s museum.
After first publishing this piece, @csilla-nocturine drew my attention to a bit of name weirdness. Hijikata’s sister is listed in most references as Nobu, but mentioned in Hakuouki Reimeiroku as Toku. A bit of preliminary digging shows me that she went by both, as well as by a childhood name, Ran, though when or to whom or why I have no idea. The Hakuouki nerd writers probably know what they’re up to and I’m writing in Hakuouki, so I’ve changed the name to Toku in this.
Sato Hikogorou was Hijikata Toshizo and Toku’s first cousin. Hikogorou and Toku’s eldest daughter Nami married another Hijikata relative, a member of the Hashimoto family. I’m not sure how they were related but the Hashimoto were the relatives whom young Toshizo famously visited, and liking their takuwan so much, took home a whole bucket of the stuff. These families intermarried over and over again! Both Toku and Nami were in their late teens when they had their first child, so Toku was only 34 when she became a grandmother.
As for Saitou, I don’t think we know whether he was in contact with his family at this point in his life, but later on, when he was living in Tokyo as Fujita Goro, it’s documented that he was. The left handed swordsman story is probably fictional, but since it’s used in Hakuouki, I have to think he must have in-story had parents who tolerated it to some extent.

Phew I finally got time to answer this. First, I hope you are doing fine now, that you are resting and eating properly too, and that the amazing content OP provides us, helps reinvigorating you.
1. I only have ever shipped Zoro with Sanji. It's kinda generic but honestly I don't know if they hate eachother or want to get in eachother's pants. But I'm not super into it, ships in OP have never really called me much, so Zoro x Sword 1, Zoro x Sword 2 and Zoro x Sword 3 also work for me haha.
2. I'm not saying it's never been done, but I personally have never seen it, i'm a sucker for sci-fi lol like actual space rangers and all the strawhats are different alien races.
Extra: I loved Merry Go but at some point having that cute and cozy lil ship wasn't gonna do any favors for them in the new world, i think it was a good call for Oda to let it go, specially when Eustass Fucking Kid may have stolen a dino fossil and be like: "this shit looks rad, let's put in the ship" I mean they gotta outshine that somehow.
3. F/M/K.
Mihawk(M), Croc (F), Doffy. (K)
Damn. I mean, could frick Doffy but he seems kinda freaky sadistic in bed so, no. Mihawk could be my stern, silent yet caring husband any day. + I would remodelate his big ass castle with a pool ngl.
Ace (M), Sabo (K), Luffy (F)
I would never kill any of the ASL brothers under any other circumstances that aren't the FMK game. I would definitely marry my narcoleptic, dorky and clumsy Ace. My second choice is Sabo but I feel our strong opinions and personalities would easily repel eachother. I would frick luffy just because he can stretch EVERY part of his body, I mean what an experiment!!!
Law (M), Kid (K), Luffy (F)
I would marry my one and true (fictional) love. Who doesn't love a tall, lanky, sentient eyebags with so much self-hatred but also capable of loving so much he would die for you? Kid is gonna rip me in half ngl, so no. With Luffy the same thing as above.
Zoro(M), Killer (F), Bepo (K)
I would never EVER want Bepo to die but i don't feel comfortable thinking that i could marry or frick literally and animal hahaha so i propose the FMKA, fuck, marry, kill and aDOPT so i can protect him. I only marry Zoro cuz i have a soft spot for him.
4. At this point in the OP universe we shouldn't just theorize they could be gay couples, we should accept it more, like pirates were symbols of lust and pleasure and this universe doesn't suggest that people frown upon homosexual relationships in general, in conclusion yes they are my dads.
5. Depends of how long do you want them to last. lol.
~Luffy - If you want them to last as pirates but not to get a lot of recognition, (well at least not as big as the actual strawhats) staying out of most trouble and basically making OP a sitcom, take Luffy out of the captain position and put him in other, doesn't matter which. But for the sake of the list, he'll be Vicecaptain/swordsman.
~Zoro - He has big and strong arms so he could be the helmsman. I mean he breaks the helm from time to time but...
~Nami - I think she could be the cook. She lived a long time alone and somehow that gives me the vibe of self-suficient cook, sometimes trying to cook fancy-esque meals.
~Usopp - I mean he could be good as carpinter/engineer. He's crafty and resourceful, also creative.
~Robin - Doctor. Trafalgar Law kinda doctor. Somehow cynical and sadistic doctor. But doctor, nontheless.
~Chopper - Archeologist. He is just smart, intellectual work suits him.
~Sanji - The musician. Sanji exhudes this classy gentleman aura that could be well complemented by the love (and power) of a hopelessly romantic musician.
~Franky: I actually don't know the english word for Usopp's position in the crew? English is not my first. Snipper? Shooter? I can see him flexing some high-tech guns with crazy range, lasers and all sorts of stuff that can snap you form a mile away.
~Brook: Navigator. He's been a around a while. He knows his stuff. He predicts the strenght of the wind, floating in it (light bones hehe) stuff like that. I think he's smart, quick witted and swift, things that are underrated of him...
~Jinbei: Actual Captain and it's tired of everyone's shit but he's a dad and he loves them so much, Luffy is his... Pupil? Somehow? He looks up to Jinbei a lot.
6. Bonney - Prob food, desserts in particular. Also gems. Apoo - Onomatopoeias.
Tbh i can't think something for the rest.
7. I love Bonney because I can't stress enough the lack of female protagonism in OP even if i love it with all my heart this trait is one of it's many flaws. But I also picked Bonney because we literally don't know shit about her? I mean she's a supernova yes but she was focused briefly in the marineford arc crying??? and recently in the Reviere arc just trying to get to mariejois... Like what is her mission? Is she a doble agent? Is she a double, double agent???? She has a crazy devil fruit that we don't know the extent of it's uses/power, Bonney could be hundreds of years old and she's just chilling, eating junk food, going on suspicious adventures in the most important events in this universe...
Like I honestly need to know, my top 3 priorities in the OP universe rn are:
1. Knowing what the frick happened in Port Rocky with Law and Coby.
2. Who, and what is Bonney doing exactly?
3. The missing world history, the empty Century and stuff.
8. I like both. Supernova means it's just so bright and hard to miss, it can be applied to marines or other people that are not necessarily pirates. Saying "the worst generation" implies negativity towards the individuals so you can asume they are pirates and I think the World Goverment is tired of doing paperwork of all the crazy shit they have done so that's why it's the worst, of the worst...
Sorry it's kinda long and full of grammar or spelling errors lol, but it was so much fun!!!
Fun Real Life Update: I have to go in for surgery tommorow, and I'm imagining for the next few days I won't feel much like posting actual posts.
I did think maybe I could throw some questions at you guys. Some hypothetical, some self serving. Actually, scratch that, all of them will be self serving. It will only be like two days and then I'll go back to screaming over the show
(The very last scene I watched showed The Going Luffy so, yes, there will be lots of screaming.)
I'm doing it mostly because I hate hospitals (especially in the current environment) but I love discussing media. I mean I also enjoy flailing over how fucking dumb and adorable Zoro is, but it's a very one sided flailing and thus less distracting. (I'm also kinda nervous even though there is no reason to be, it's just stressful, so I'll likely post a lot. Just ignore me until like Wednesday)
Except the parts where I'm actively watching Zoro be dumb. Those are golden.
My first question is actually super self serving: Do you guys have a preference towards longer posts where I save it all up them jam it together all at once, or when I post like ten small posts one after another because something amazing/beautiful/un-fucking-believable happened and I have no impulse control?
With that out of the way, here are actual topics of discussion:
1. What are your top three Zoro ships? Or, if you think he's ace, what are his three favorite sandwiches?
2. What's a Strawhat AU you'd love but have never seen? Assuming you read fanfic and what not. If not, which do you like better the Sunny or the Merry?
3. Fuck, Marry, Kill: Mihawk, Croc, Doflamingo | Ace, Sabo, Luffy | Luffy, Kid, Law | Zoro, Killer, Bepo
4. I just rewatched the scene where Mihawk takes Shanks Luffy's wanted posters. I'm half convinced they are Zoro's dads. There was no question there, just wanted to make the point.
5. Switch every crew members role on the ship. You'll be graded on how long I think they'll survive afterwards.
6. What do you think the naming themes are for the other supernovas? We know Law's are polar animals and Kid's are nouns. What do you think the others are?
7. Pick a Supernova who isn't Zoro, Luffy or Law. Tell me about them. I don't care how factual it is, I just want to really love that supernova when your done.
8. Notice the show never uses the term Supernova after the time skip? Do you think the worst generation ruined it? I do because that would be hilarious.
Also, feel free to ask me anything. Just know that I will answer at extreme length. I did mention I love discussing this stuff!
Have this picture of Bepo trying to fly. As an apology.

Question do you like WCI arc? What are your thoughts on it? What do you like or do you not like about it?
hi anon thanks for asking me this question XD *cracks fingers* hoo man this is gonna be long. To anyone, please don’t get offended on what I am going to write- just in case you get the wrong idea.
well, before I start I have to admit that I am a BIG *COUGH* Sanji *COUGH COUGH HACK* fan. And the idea of Sanji Year excited me nonetheless when it first came out, along with the Vinsmokes and marriage theme. I expected a lot of things happening during this arc. And in one side, I do am pleased with the revelation of Vinsmokes and all the new characters. I liked them, however I have to really say I am really displeased with Oda’s writing during this entire arc.
The entire arc was a disaster for me. Not because I expected big things or so. Ever since Sanji’s second backstory was mentioned briefly by the wedding invitation, I already expected this arc will full of cliches and oh-my-god I hate cliches so much. Yet I put my faith in Oda- because maybe he will pull shit out nicely like he always did. But no, we got a horrible rushed-off writing instead.
My guess it’s because Oda announced Year of Sanji back in 2016, and in result, he was rushing himself to write this arc and it ended up having a horrible writing. The idea of this arc was nice- but it was lacking execution. If you have been reading what my friend Malky wrote @sleepdepravity about this arc, I agree most of it with her- this arc has no point of character development. Sanji is kind, but the flaunting of that fact in this arc is only shoving that idea in the reader’s face- to make people go “Ooooh Sanji is so kind he is a salvation angel” instead of actually making this a redemption or some short.
The Straw Hats are adults, at this point- character development might not really presented and it was obvious especially ever since the timeskip. They are solid and are collected. And then suddenly this arc happens. If this arc is only going to show how harsh the New World is, it’s not. Because during the entire arc I don’t even get scared at all that Sanji or anyone is going to be killed for that matter. We had that heart attack that Law might get killed back in Dressrosa, but no. Also, apparently Law’s hand can be sewn back just nicely in the end of the arc. It makes me losing the feel that Sanji might actually lose his hands in this arc. Because, for hell if I knew- they could be sewn back just like ho Law’s hands were.
Most of people are disappointed that the SH are separating again, but for me- it’s to be expected. Especially that back in Dressrosa we got mossywara as a group with Luffy. So it’s to be expected that guruwara will be the only team presented in this arc. With addition of Pedro and Carrot in the gang, that was acceptable. I liked the minks when they were first introduced. But then, Pedro and Carrot joining SH on their trip out of nowhere is way too random. Kinemon, Bartolomeo, and Cavendish joining the war as a gang is actually more established than Pedro simply joining by -assigned-. Carrot joining the gang was written out nicely, however I am displeased on how she is portrayed after that.
Don’t get me wrong, I liked Carrot as a character. But don’t you think she is too overpowered? Hey, it’s great to get a strong, badass female character. And she is cute too. HOWEVER- CONTEXT IS she is YOUNG, and she was joining the trip RANDOMLY. She never been outside before. Yet she could stand up against BM’s troops? Dude. Remember the SH back in the early days? Remember how crazy strong Zoro depicted as? He was still struggling and BADLY too at some of low-rank enemies. This is Carrot’s first adventure out of Zou. And she could handle things NICELY without getting much injuries. Even if she is depicted as a strong character, this kind of writing is just too rushed for her character.
Next is Pudding. Oh God. PUDDING. I LOVE LOVE LOVE PUDDING SO MUCH. When she was first appeared, I already liked her cute attitude- and hell, I wouldn’t mind IF she stayed cute like that at all. And then there was EVIL PUDDING revealed with the memory powers. Dude, that really makes me into her. HOWEVER then Oda decided to fuck things up. Because one second, she was shown with a flashback with Lola and then the next second, she was evil. And then, suddenly she was crying just because a MAN calling her THIRD EYE BEAUTIFUL. The backstory was cool. But… are you SERIOUS??? Then she decided to fall in love with SANJI JUST BECAUSE THAT ONE LINE??? I wouldn’t mind if there was MORE BUILD UP between the two. Maybe like— make their exchanges longer during the pre-wedding scenes??? So Pudding can be more touched by Sanji’s gentleman-y and kindness aftermath??? But come on… the build up was so lacking it makes Pudding like an inconsistent little kid. Come on. Also, give us more screentime of that memory power won’t you Oda? What’s the use of mentioning it if you aren’t going to make Pudding USE IT???
And then there’s Big Mom herself. As many have pointed out about Big Mom, it makes ZERO SENSE that she wanted everything to live in peace BUT THEN SHE CLAIMED PUDDING’S THIRD EYE AS UGLY… WHAT??? It bugs me out especially that she is a Yonko. Strong and powerful. One second she agreed to marry her child with Capone for power, but next second she tried to murder the Vinsmokes to gain their power- I mean- dude??? that was so random????? She could’ve go along with the marriage like all the other times but she decided to go against a fucking nationality filled with assassins out of all deals??? What makes her to think of that??? Why didn’t she murder the other marriage dealers instead??? Didn’t she knew the Vinsmokes were rumored to be so strong even if they actually was clueless in this fucking arc? There was no caution to the Vinsmokes at all?????
And now here comes the Vinsmokes. BRO. You were rumored to be a strong ass kingdom and then they are… this STUPID??? I love the power rangers-esque outta them. But like… dude. You are a fucking nation with science basis. And they are apparently so stupid. Falling on BM’s trap just LIKE THAT? You are trying to make a deal with a PIRATE. Are you expecting things to go simply as that? You have troops. What kind of royalties are you? There wasn’t any soldiers at the wedding party. COME ON. YOU ARE TOO DUMB. Also if I were Judge I might as well kept Sanji for his brain and use him as the tactical commander. Or maybe at least KEEP HIM FOR A FUCKING BLOOD AND ORGAN SUPPLY IN CASE ANY OF THE FRONT ROW TRIPLETS ARE INJURED IN A FIGHT. ARE YOU SERIOUSLY TRYING TO BE AN EVIL GROUP OF PEOPLE? THEN YOU FAILED WAYS TO BE EVIL GENIUSES. YOU ARE TOO DUMB TO BE EVIL GENIUSES.
And now I am talking about the Straw Hats. Jinbei joining the SH statement was EPIC but like… then I felt nothing. There was no impact to that or whatever. The only MVP in this whole arc is Brook. And I love Luffy. At least bless the Gods that he never changed. Nami in this arc was… horrible. She is suddenly just being a whiny moody kid. She kicked ass nicely in the last chapter action but like- during the entire thing she was just…. there. We are not seeing much action from her NEW WEAPON that was actually there to be a new fighting spotlight. I mean… come on???
And now we got Sanji. Oh god oh god oh god. Why.
I am not going to comment on how he is crying and shit or beating up Luffy. I actually understand why he does all of that. My only concern here is in the WRITING ON ALL OF THOSE SCENES AND NOT HOW SANJI iS ACTING DURING THE WHOLE THING. Sanji is still Sanji, and how he acts is actually still very in-character and it was nice. Including how stupid he is to think to leave the SH. And then we suddenly got Sanji saving the Vinsmokes on the fucking table scene- like a salvation angel coming from the depths of hell. I knew it was supposed to be symbolic, but it was FAR TOO CLICHE and this fucking arc is shoving down “LOOK AT HOW KIND SANJI IIIISSSSS” in reader’s face too much and I’m hella sick of it. You could’ve done that WITHOUT THAT. YEAH SURE. EVERY OP FANS WHO FOLLOW THE ENTIRE OP SHOULD’VE KNOWN THAT SANJI IS NICE ALREADY TBH YOU DOn’T NEED TO FLAUNT IT OVER AND OVER TOO MUCH SLKGSJKGjsKGS
Also Sanji’s second backstory is suddenly changing EVERYTHING about him. It makes as if the first backstory about starvation never happened. No, of course the readers know it’s still there. But suddenly in this one arc it’s treating like it was all that was about- making him sounded like an entire new and different character instead of the Sanji we are all know all these whole time. Character revealations are good, guys. But last time it happened- it was Luffy with his second backstory(ASL). It didn’t change our view on Luffy at all. However, on Sanji- everything did change. All of sudden people are talking about “look at how weak he was! He is not weak anymore! Look at how he never had a proper family and now he does!” when in fact that past was already long gone and Vinsmoke Sanji was dead- he was already reborn as simply Sanji and he was not weak or not having a family. This arc is talking as if he was never having anyone when he actually does.
There’s also Reiju- talking that she couldn’t disobey her father. Yet she occasionally does. This mechanism was confusing in any matter. Also there was the Vinsmoke brothers showing emotions at each other… everything is too inconsistant. Sanji’s resolve to be a chef is not even as strong as I thought it would be. and especially for fucks sake he is a prince, and he is aware that he is one. The fucking kingdom’s system is too fucked up even though I have to admit I liked the kingdom’s concept…
And suddenly I fogotten what else I wanted to write and everything ended up going into a loop without clear points of what I wanted to actually point out /shot
WCI has too many characters to introduce and to be offered. The thing with BM’s head chef is also written as too sudden. I have no surprises if Sanji and that cook is going to have a battle in the future chapters. The classic countdown thing is a thing in OP battles, like in Dressrosa- the time limit existed before the birdcage closes. During this arc, there was the one day to marriage- and the runaway- and to calm down BM’s rage. Time limit wise, it was great to portray all of the characters hurrying and all however- WRITING wise, it was not good to rush things just to make everything fits in into the deadline.
Events in CP9, Marineford, Dressrosa and many many others were having time limits on them, however they were not as rushed as how WCI’s writing was. Oda could’ve managed to sort out more build ups to make this arc flows better thus fitting all of the characters backstories without making things too cliche or rushed.
New World is a harsh place. And I have to admit- I would’ve prefered Sanji to lose his hands or at least a leg. Or maybe even die to make the whole thing flow better. If Oda is trying to portray New World’s harshness with WCI war- the least he could make is to make the characters severely injured- or at least leave some mark off permanently to show how harsh this adventure is.
I am too tired with this arc’s horrible writing that my mind focuses on things to enjoy like “oh look at how uke sanji is in this arc” /shot
Thanks for reading my stupid rant and I hope none of you gets this to the wrong side… hopefully X”D
I am pretty sure i wanted to rant more about this arc but I forgotten what I am displeased with halfway to this answer wwww :”D

Online Relationships
“Personalities and relationships tend to differ offline. “
(Part 1) I (Part 2)
Title: Online Relationships- Part 3
Pairing:Trafalgar Law X Nami
Genre: Romance/ AU
Rating: T
Word Count: 2828
Disclaimer: I do not own One Piece, they rightfully belong to Oda Eiichiro
"He stole a gun from where?!" Nami shouted in disbelief.
"The Marine Head Quarters." Sabo, Luffy's brother, repeat for the nth time.
"I know this is just our brother's stupidity, but we need your help, Nami." Ace, another brother of Luffy, pleaded.
"Let's take him to the hospital. Chopper's already having a hard time taking the bullet in his chest with the tools he has." Nami said as she looks over her best friend, Luffy, that was groaning in pain as Chopper tries to touch his skin.
"We've already told you, we should not. Our brother would get arrested for what he did." Sabo reasoned out.
"Your grandfather is an Admiral. I'm sure he could pull some strings for Luffy. We need to do this or else he would die." Nami said in despair.
"Luffy would die from Gramps' wrath. Sending him to jail would better than what would Gramps do to him if he knew what he did." Ace shivered at the thought.
"Nami, Luffy's condition is worsening. I'm a failure as a doctor." Chopper's eyes teared.
"Chopper, you can do it. Luffy would not die of something like that he has a very strong will that would keep him alive." Nami comforted his friend.
"I know my limits as a doctor. I specialize in making medicines, not on surgeries. We really need a surgeon."
"A surgeon." Nami thought for a second. "Law is a surgeon and he is the best one in his class." She gleamed as she finally has the answer to their problems.
She quickly dialed his number and to her relief he quickly answered her call.
"Law! It's Nami, I need your help."
"Nami-ya? What's the problem?"
"It's Luffy." She briefly discussed how her best friend ended up being operated in her condominium unit. Around 3 o'clock in the afternoon, Sabo and Ace came banging her unit's door. They brought the already injured Luffy. She hastily made the guest room's bed so his friend could comfortably rest. Sabo had already given his brother first aid treatment before they went to Nami's, however, they needed Chopper's assistance to get the bullet out of Luffy's body.
Law sighed from the other line. "I'll ask more details later. Can you bring him over my apartment? I'll text you the address."
Sabo drive so fast that Nami swear she saw sparks of fire in the wheels. Thankfully, they all reach Law's apartment in one piece. They were greeted by Law in the garage to open a parking space for Sabo's car.
"Law! Thank you for helping us." Chopper said while crying.
"Tony-ya, it's my duty as an upcoming doctor. You need to compose yourself. I'll be needing your assistance." Law said to the reindeer.
Law had a small clinic in his basement. He made it with the old apparatus and machines from his uncle's hospital. It is where he practices, experiments and other stuff like patching up Eustass Kid when he gets in trouble with the police. What he is doing could revoke his future medical license, but he is a man who does what he wants most of the time so it doesn't matter.
Taking out the bullet from Luffy's body was an easy work for Law. Being a genius surgeon and someone who has been practicing medicine since the age of 7, he knew what to do in such case. Chopper was assistance was a great help that fasten up the operation, however, it still took hours to finish. Luffy lost a lot of blood so Law transferred some of Ace and Sabo's blood for him to recover.
Nami was so worried about Luffy. Law did not allow her to enter the clinic so she settled in his living room. From time to time, Ace or Sabo would come out of the clinic and tell her what is happening. Relief washed over her when she heard that Luffy was stable. His brothers went out to get them dinner as a gratitude to their brother's successful operation. Nami wanted to see her friend, but Law still hasn't allowed her to enter the clinic. She decided to relax in the living room couch while waiting. All the fatigue, stress mixed with the relief she was feeling made her tired causing her to doze off and sleep on the couch.
"Law, I'll finish wrapping up his wounds." Chopper said while carefully bandaging his friend.
"I'll call Nami-ya. I'm sure she'll want to see her.... boyfriend?" Law was quite unsure what the relationship of the two is. There were rumors around the campus saying that Luffy was dating Nami. They are frequently seen together being too close to one another. Although it was Luffy who introduced to Nami, he can't help being jealous of how they interact with one another.
"Luffy is not Nami's boyfriend. From what I know, she likes someone from the university. I overhead Sanji and Zoro talk about it, but I never knew who it was." Chopper clarified.
Law simply nod, then, he went to where Nami was. She was sleeping soundly on the couch. He eyed her fair skin and cute sleeping face that draws him near her. To resist the temptation, he gently covered Nami's body with a blanket. Then, he sat on the carpet leaning on the legs of the couch. Being close to her, he could still smell the Tangerine mixed with the ocean smell from her. He sighed and tried to doze off.
"Done with Luffy?" Nami said while her eyes peeking over the blanket covering her.
Law turned his head to her direction. "Yeah. Strawhat-ya is safe now."
"Thank you, Law." She said fondly. She sat upright with the blanket still on her shoulder, then she taps the available space next to her. "Come sit here."
"Nah. Too tired to move." Law wanted to sit beside her, but he smells like blood because of the operation. He didn't want her to smell him like that.
"Okay." Nami ruffled his hair. "Thank you again, Law. What you did mean so much to me. I don't know how could I take it if Luffy died."
“You two are really close.”
“We’ve known each other since first year college. I know I could always count on him like how he could rely on me. He’s a brother to me.” Nami said in nostalgia.
“Just a brother? I thought you two are dating.”
“Why would you think that? I mean we are always together, but our relationship was platonic. I’ll never see him more than a friend or brother.” Nami explained which soothe Law’s worries away.
Both liked how they can freely talk right now. They both wish this moment would repeat again whenever they see one another at the university.
It was almost closing time of Baratie Diner. Most customers are off their last plate or waiting for their bill. One table appeared to be cheerful like they still have all night. Luffy, Zoro, Nami and Robin were on that table. Luffy kept on asking for refills of his meal which was catered by their friend, Sanji, who was working in that restaurant. The diner' s owner, Chef Zeff, allows them to stay in and hang out in all Baratie's branches even way past closing time as long as Sanji was with them. Today, they were all gathered due to Sanji's requested. Ussop, Chopper. Franky and Chopper have some things to do so they weren't able to comply with his request.
When the other customers all left, Sanji quickly joined his friends. He has a very important news to share with them.
"I'm getting married." Sanji said.
The shock was painted in the faces of his friends. They could not believe that the woman loving friend they have is settling down. Despite that, they greeted him congratulations except for Zoro. Luffy commented on how weddings have a lot of food and they should have the biggest cake in the world.
"So, who's the unlucky girl?" Zoro questioned.
"Unlucky? What do you mean by that?" Sanji glared.
Zoro was about to answer, but Nami intercept. "Who's the girl, Sanji? We wanted to know the details."
"My lovely Nami, I shall tell you how it happened." Sanji said in a deary tone. "My beautiful fianćee is the one and only Charlotte Pudding. The moment I saw her Facegram profile, I fell in love. "
"What you just met her online? Well, what do I expect from a love cook." Zoro mocked.
"Shut up, Marimo. Let me finish my story." Sanji rebutted. "Both our families are prominent in the technology business which is why my father wanted an alliance. We were forced into this arranged marriage, however, I just can't help but fall in love with her. "
The girls awed at how bold he is expressing his feelings. Zoro wanted to puke hearing his love-sick friend. Luffy continued to eat with delight.
"Have you met her personally?" Robin inquired.
"No, but based on her facegram account she's a really sweet and kind girl. She even asked me out to meet her in advance before our predestined meeting with our families. Pudding is really lovely." Sanji glee.
"So, you chat one another, huh? That's really nice." Nami said while remembering her relationship with Law.
"This cook might mess up like before." Zoro pointed at Sanji. "You know the Viola incident."
All of them remembered that time. It was three years ago, during Zoro, Sanji, Luffy and Nami's first year in college. Robin has been already in her fourth year in the university that time.
Viola was the university's superstar. She was a slender, charismatic dancer, sophisticated and came from a well-off family. Her beauty magnifies whenever she dances in her Flamenco dress in university events. Sanji was entranced by her beauty. He quickly added her up in facegram and messaged her.
Hi, my one and only idol Viola ~
At first, she replies modestly in his messages. Everyone could be your idol when it comes to dancing. However, thank you.
Sanji continued to chat her whenever he had a chance. There were even times he mentioned that he saw her inside her classes. She finds it very odd, but nevertheless she still answered. He even used his friend, Gin, as an excuse to get her number but he failed. He continued to pursue on chatting her till she stops replying. He wept for days to the he even wanted to confront her. Zoro knocked some sense into him by telling that they barely interact personally and he should just give up.
That time Sanji went back to amorous flirty attitude to any attractive women he sees. He vowed never to settle down to loving just one girl again. He belonged to all the ladies in the world.
"I believe Sanji has learned well from that incident. But, I suggest that you tone down for a little bit. You still haven't seen her aside from what is on the internet." Robin warned.
"Whatever makes you happy, we'll support you. Just be yourself with her. I'm sure it will work out fine." Nami said.
"Thank you, my lovely angels." Sanji was touched by his friends' words.
"Oi Sanji!" Luffy said seriously. "Don't forget to have a big cake in the wedding!"
They laughed at their friend's comment.
Navigation focuses on monitoring and controlling moments of a craft from one place to another. Ironic, that Nami specialized in this field, but failed to navigate her feelings and situations on the right track.
Her professor in Navigation was also her professor in Cartography 1, back when she was in her first year. Professor Arlong is sophisticated and hard to impress when it comes to Oceanographic subjects. His subjects became a bottleneck for his students. Though he was a good lecturer, it was his bossy and dominant attitude that makes his students dislike him.
Even professors are not exempted with social media problems. Nami remembers that when she was taking up Cartography 1, a drop out student rant about Arlong in social media. It was a big issue for a lot of students are scared to say a thing about him. Arlong was enraged by the post in Facegram, he also talked about it in his classes, however, he decided not to take any other actions.
Back then, his actions scared Nami most. She was afraid that she would fail Cartography because her professor was mad. Her fear was lifted when she passed the said subject. It made her think that maybe Arlong was just misunderstood.
"Okay class, you are dismissed." Arlong said to his students. "Bepo, Nami, stay for a while. There's something I'd like to discuss." His sharp eyes were serious as ever.
The two students stayed behind. Bepo was curious why they were called by their professor.
"I don't know if you heard, but there is another occurrence of social media rant about me. This time the faculty is quite shaken." Arlong started the conversation.
"You mean the #FireTheShark Campaign? I've heard it from some of my colleagues." Nami inquired.
The #FireTheShark Campaign is an on-going social media campaign that raises awareness of the hardships of the students taking up a course under Professor Arlong. The admin of the said website that holds the campaign remain anonymous and continue to gather petition from students. They wanted Arlong to be fired.
"Yes! That crazy campaign. I'm furious at how my students could do that. As college students, I expected you to be more open minded. " Arlong ranted.
"Um, I'm sorry, Professor, but this is the first time I've heard about it. We, Mink Tribe, are not too familiar to social media." Bepo said apologetically.
Nami was quite skeptical of what she should say. She knew who are the masterminds in the campaign. It is Vander Decken and his crew. In front of Arlong, they act like they really like him, but outside the four corners of the room they despise Arlong. Not wanting to be involved in such issues, she decided not tell Arlong about it.
Arlong looked at Nami to find an answer. "I'm sorry, Professor. I don't know who did it. But, I believe that you should be bothered by it. The world is still full of fun things to be upset over angry students." Nami advised.
"Very well. Thank you to the two of you. You are dismissed."
Chopper caught a flu at the peak of their midterms. Nami being a good friend took care of him. Sanji occasionally went to visit to bring food and check on Chopper.
"Nami, I'm already late for my classes. Dr. Kureha would give me a bad grade if I don't show up in her classes." Chopper said weakly.
"But Chopper you are still sick. Don't worry, I'll get some notes for you and talk to some of your classmates to inform your professors."
"Thank you Nami."
'Bing'. A notification rang on Nami's smart phone.
Sanji-kun sent a photo to Strawhats
Nami laughed at the photo Sanji sent. It was a screencap of Law's latest status. Don't you think I'm a heart stealer? ;)
She quickly opened her facegram to check Law's account, however, she could not find the certain status anymore. Law probably deleted it because obviously, it’s his friends who posted it. He would never do such things.
Remembering what Chopper needed, she quickly messaged Law. Hey, can you give Chopper some notes? He's been sick for 2 days now.
Sure. I'll just take pictures then send it to you. He quickly replied. Then after a few minutes he sent the pictures.
Thank you Mr. Heart stealer. Nami teased.
Even you saw it? Damn. I couldn't delete it because a lot of people saw it.
Aw, you didn't delete it? I was going to comment; however, it was gone after I clicked it.
It’s still here. Anyway, I'm going to study. Bye.
It was just a subtle conversation, but Nami was content. It puts her in a very good mood. Law was really dedicated in his studies. He doesn't talk too much when he is focused and Nami finds it inspiring. She also finds herself studying harder when he is studying. Which is good because tomorrow she has an examination.
Tomorrow came and Nami was sitting in front of her room, waiting for the previous class to finish. Being bored she decided to open her facegram account. To her delight, Law's status last night popped up on her news feed. She read the comment section and saw most of his friends mentioned her name but didn't tag her.
"Oh. A heart stealer, huh?" She quickly commented to tease him. Then she turned her phone into silent mode since she will enter the examination hall.
It was merely just to tease him a little bit. Little did Nami know, a simple comment could launch a series of events that could change their lives.
