My Trafalgar Law HC's!! pt.5 🤍🤍

He's never told/will tell anyone this, but he once cosplayed as Homura Akemi in his room. He thought he looked super cute (and he did)

He has a Raphtalia nenderoid. He has her on his desk. He doesn't make a big deal about it or acknowledge it, but it's super cute.

This isn't really a HC, but he smells really nice. His entire place smells really good, too. Luffy really likes the smell of his car LOL and never let's him forget that.

I've mentioned this before kinda, but his comfort game is Deemo. He likes listening to the music from the game and putting it on while he works, now and then.

His favorite flavor of ice cream is plain vanilla. He can deal with chocolate chips, but he's pretty picky. If you give him a warm brownie alongside it tho, he'll be hooked.

His Genshin Impact team would be Albedo, Fischl, Yoimiya, and Xiao. He also ships Xiao and Venti. He mains as Albedo, but he also really likes Gorou, Barbara, and Chonghyun (it was his starting main).

He would never have Tiktok.

I've also mentioned one of these before, but he can play the piano and the ocarina really well. Also slightly cannon but he can sing very well.

He doesn't drink soda, but if he had to choose, he prefers regular Dr. Pepper.

If he was the reader, his favorite Straw Hat would be Nami, but he also likes Chopper, Corazon (in every HC in every timeline lol), and Ace.

He loves summer weather. He hates the snow.

He's very good at photography and likes going on walks now and then to take photos.

If you asked him what song he's been jamming to recently, he'd say Der Shelby pt.2-Hozier.

His favorite Victorious character is Jade West. He also likes Beck.

He'd own a dog, probably like a husky, golden retriever, or a samoyed. When he's a doctor, he'd own 4-5 dogs.

I really don't see him dating anyone unless they gave like sunshine/warm colored vibes. Ace or Luffy coded characters would probably have the best chemistry with him.

His favorite SpongeBob episodes are "Shanghaied", "Wet Painters", "Graveyard Shift", and "Dying for Pie".

If he could visit any place in America, he'd probably choose Yellowstone.

He'd cry for John Lennon if he visited the Dakota Apt.'s in New York.

He convinced Luffy that the Blair Witch Project was real.

He would be really good at Prop Hunt.

He is a very patient and safe driver.

Young Law HC's

This HC is kinda sad/sentimental, just a heads up.

I like to imagine if he grew up in the Modern World, he'd really like basketball. Corazon would save up the money to buy tickets to basketball games, and would take Law. Corazon is overall just the best most wholesome awesome Dad ever in my HC. He's doing his best. He'd show up to the Father's, Grandparent's, and Mother's day events at his school to make sure he wasn't alone. If he couldn't make it, he'd have one of his marine buddies go. He'd get Law happy meals and buy him ice cream. He'd have an album full of polaroids with him and Corazon.

This one's kinda sad but I feel like he'd be a really lonely kid throughout elementary school. He'd be really unpopular, but would be seen as "Quiet and Smart, and kinda intimidating". He'd watch Ace play basketball and eventually join him, and get sad when he graduates to highschool. He'd be really lonely and listen to music during lunchtime at a table by himself. He'd eventually have a friend group, but he'd still have issues with depression. He'd also be really good at art, but never pursue it. Teachers would think he's a very bright individual and is very polite, but very quiet.

For his birthday, he'd ask for comic books, robot figures, and a new pair of sneakers.

He'd love Radiohead. This is a bit biased, but his favorite song would be "No Surprises-Radiohead".

He'd also really like the Beatles. John would be his favorite member. He'd 100% have a Beatles poster in his room.

I don't wanna make the HC more angsty, but Corazon would make sure he goes to therapy.

He really likes dogs. He'd like animals in general. Corazon would take him to the zoo, and they'd look at the penguins and the petting zoo.

Luffy

At first, he thought that he was being friendly

Spending time with you, trying to make the Sunny as welcoming as possible, but then he started to get these warm fuzzy feelings

So he decided that he liked it, and spent even more time with you, but it only made it worse

It got so bad, that at one point he had to leave the room when you entered

When he talked about it to Nami and Robin, they just laughed

Then he got pouty and then demanded they tell him what they were laughing about

“You like them Luffy”

Of course, he likes you, he likes everyone on the crew. Then they had to explain to him that he was feeling romantic feelings

It all made sense, but he also got scared

He saw how love affects people and their careers. He wasn’t sure if he was ready to sacrifice that much for another person

But then Nami and Robin told him he already sacrificed so much for his crew

That’s when he decided he was gonna confess

Zoro

He was against you in the beginning

That’s why it didn't bother him when he wanted to spend more and more time with you. But it started to confuse him when he realized it wasn't to keep an eye on you

So he started to train more, but each time his mind drifted of it drifted off to you

Then he decided to (finally) take more showers, but while washing his hair, he found himself imagining your fingers rubbing his scalp

So he stopped taking showers (again)

Whatever he did, his mind drifted to you. How you would like something, what you would do if you were with him

So he opted to spend more time with you

This confused you, so when you asked he kinda blew up and talked about your allegiance. Of course, this made you sad, and seeing you sad made him realize that he screwed up. Later he talked to you in a hushed voice and apologized

I don’t think he’s the type to ask other people, but after yelling at you and apologizing (which he never does) he thinks it’s time to put down his pride

So when he talked to the boiz (I’m not sorry) they also laughed at him. Except for Luffy, Sanji, and Chopper. Luffy and Chopper were confused, and Sanji was making fun of him

This made him flushed, and as he was about to leave they pointed out the obvious, he liked you.

This made him even more flushed, and he slammed the door shut. But now that he knows what he is feeling, he can decide what to do

Nami

Was suspicious of you too

But as she spent more time with you, she realized that you were nice

So you guys started to stay up and talk about where you guys were from, dreams and aspirations, things you two wanted in the future. And of course about love, marriage, and kids. Just about everything

I think Nami would want to adopt two girls when she’s older. Just like Bellemare

She felt a fire bust in her chest when she saw your smile. She felt clouds split and the sunlight creep down her body when she saw you glance at her

And Nami is self-aware. You best believe that she knew what she was feeling

The knowledge made her shy away for a few days, but she realized that pushing you away wouldn’t make her happy

That means she put her flirtation on 10x

It did make you flustered— I mean a pretty lady hitting on you? Of course, you’re gonna be blushing

It’s mostly a series of compliments and dirty jokes added to the mix. But she didn’t confess for awhile

She didn’t want to disrupt the balance of the crew and was too scared to take the risk

But each time you talk to her, it makes her start to not care

Usopp

High-key scared of you

Was hiding behind Zoro as he interrogated you

But as he interrogated you, he realized that you were pretty nice

So he stopped hiding behind the human meat shield and decided to initiate contact himself

He was doing it to protect his crew… right?

Maybe at first, but he started to become interested in the person you are. Where you grew up, if you had any siblings, parents, dreams, and so on

Then he got addicted. He was a moth drawn to a flame, and he started to feel himself burn up— with love (It’s so cheesy, this is something I am sorry for)

He wanted to impress you. He would start to come up with all of these crazy gadgets

Sometimes he pranks you. He thinks you look cute when you’re mad

When he realized that he was feeling something romantic and not platonic— he went back to scared mode. Think of the stereotypical shy, cute, twiddling thumbs girl— yeah that's him

He keeps trying to confess, but then ends up chickening out

But after asking Franky for advice, he finally steeled his nerves

Sanji

Let’s just say that Sanji was a simp from the start

He may have been suspicious, but when he saw you his heartbeat unlike it had ever done before

It wasn't the usual feeling he got when he just saw a girl, it was something warmer

Of course, that made him want to explore it. Cue the excessive flirting

It honestly got kinda annoying, but once you guys started to talk about things that mattered (not him talking about how lovely you look) was when he started falling

And he fell hard

Sanji had never actually fallen for someone, so he got scared. That meant no more flirting, and him hiding when you entered the room

After you leave he holds his hand to his heart and breathes like he ran a mile

Poor Sanji, you give him butterflies. Too many butterflies

He wants to confess and get over it, but he finds himself getting lightheaded at the thought

Oh, there goes the blood

It gets so bad, that the crew has to take matters into their own hands

Chopper

He fell for you

Because you accidentally tripped him

(I’m not gonna make this romantic)

Robin

She was one of the only people who weren’t super suspicious

Instead, she took the time to get to know you better

When she got to see who you were, she couldn't help but start to fall for you

Make no mistake, Robin is very self-aware. When she started to get an inkling of feelings— she knew

But she likes to play oblivious. She’s good at masking her emotions. Plus, she doesn't want anything to change between you (except for the fact you don't kiss her yet)

She spends even more time with you now. She likes to read and do domestic things with you. She likes to imagine that you two live in a remote cottage

She likes to bring you tea when you read together

She wants to make a move, but she also doesn’t want to ruin what you guys already have

She likes to talk about her feelings with Nami

So every time you walk into the room, you catch Nami doing the wiggling eyebrows and Robin lightly slapping her arm

She just loves the way your brain works (as well as the way your lips look when they pull into a smile)

After enough pestering from Nami, she grabbed some flowers from her garden and decided to finally act on her feelings

Franky

You just started hanging out with him

Probably because he didn't care that you used to be in the navy

You would just watch him make things. And to be polite, he would let you try them out

Of course, this lead to you calling it amazing and boosting his ego

So he started to like when you were around

Then as a pastime, you two would get to know each other

That’s when he started to fall for you. He would start to notice the way your hair fell, and the way it caught the light

You became his muse. And all of a sudden, he's coming up with all of these crazy and brilliant inventions

No one noticed his growing crush on you, since you guys spent most of your time in his workspace, but one dinner the crew found him staring at you during dinner and tripping over himself

Cue the unnecessary teasing. He tries to cover it up as him being a pervert, but everyone knows that he is lying

Since he can’t convince anyone, he tries to convince himself. That means he starts to push you away

But when he starts to feel more empty, he owns up to his feelings and decides to change that

Brook

You would listen to his music

Listen, not just let it play the background

You always had this look of wonder in your eyes as you watched him

After getting to know him (which started by asking him how he learned so many instruments)

He likes the way you laughed and smiled, and… just do anything

He would start blushing when you would come up to him and talk. When he would see you across the room. When he would think about you… all the time

The crew started to notice but brushed it off as him being flattered by you being interested in his music

But when you guys weren’t doing something music-related, the two of you can be seen drinking tea or watching the ocean

He’s pretty self-aware, but he wants to deny it for a little while

But once the crew notices (due to his non-existent eyes following you) they push him to go after it. He’s been lonely for so long, it seems kinda weird for him

He also feels bad for liking you, since he’s dead and old

But he decided that you only live once, but in his instance twice

Jinbei

He was very suspicious of you

He didn't even want you to join. So he decided to keep an eye on you

That backfired

Because he started to notice how good you looked… doing everything. When he started asking you about yourself— boy he started sweating

He can’t get over how cute he thinks you are. Everything from how you look to how you act. The thumping of his heart can be heard by the fishes below

Cue the shifty eyes, twiddling thumbs, and flushed cheeks

He is honestly so cute. But of course, if anyone asks him what’s wrong, he’ll say he’s fine… sure

He tries to woo you by showing you his helmsman skills. If that doesn’t work he’ll tell you stories about Fishman island. If that doesn’t work… he’ll just listen to you and give his sage advice

The crew catches on quickly. He is just too obvious. That means incessant teasing from all of the members (excluding you)

Most of them find it ironic how he was telling Luffy it was a bad idea to let you on board, to think what it would be like to grab your hand with his webbed fingers

He’s self-aware, but he is also scared since he has never felt this way before

But after getting tired of the teasing, he decided he was gonna take you out for a swim… and whatever happens, happens (aka he’s preparing for a stuttering love confession)

Another series of which I had read the original manga but dropped for (probably) legitimate reasons and placed on my watch list for this season, Houseki No Kuni (Land of the Lustrous) is the brainchild of Haruko Ichikawa. Houseki No Kuni began its serialization in Afternoon magazine in October 2012.

To celebrate its first volume’s publication, a promotional video was made by animation studio Studio Hibari in July 2013. The PV featured snippets of the first and second chapters of the manga and its art style mirrors the manga’s original artwork. The manga is ongoing at seven volumes and is being translated into English by Kodansha Comics USA since June 2017.

The animated adaptation of the fantasy action seinen story is produced by Kodansha and TOHO animation, with animation studio Orange handling the anime. It is set for twelve episodes.

Like all fantasy-genre stories at their beginnings, there is a grand need to explain their extensive world. For Houseki No Kuni‘s first episode, the story concentrates on the two races featured in the story’s world. One group is the 28 houseki (gems) who are essentially invincible beings made from crystal. Each gem is a specific crystal. For instance, the character Dia is made from diamond. The houseki are assigned two tasks: they can live as warriors or as healers in their colony. Although houseki appear feminine and have feminine voices, they do not possess a gender. Listening to the Japanese audio and my little knowledge of the language after watching a lot of anime, the pronouns assigned to the houseki is male. For the sake of this blog post, I’ll just use “they/their” pronouns.

The houseki’s body can be damaged but are able to regenerate if their broken limbs are put back together. As we learn in the first episode, if the damage made to a houseki is too great (ergo if they are damaged via poison), then there is a chance they may suffer from memory loss if their wound isn’t treated properly. The houseki are constantly on alert because they are being hunted by Lunarians, who want to capture them and use their bodies for their own needs.

Lunarians, the spoopy goopy moon people whose appearances are based off of Asian deities are thirsty for some bling-bling.

There are quite a number of characters who are introduced in the first episode and have gained enough screen-time to have a personality. Our protagonist, Phos (short for Phosphophyllite) is deemed as a useless houseki because they (or he) have a very delicate body and are extremely clumsy. Phos has a light-hearted personality (as in, they’re the loud, cheerfully obnoxious yet cute lead protagonist we’re familiar with) and aspires to become a warrior gem. They’re assigned to become a historian – whelp ain’t that kinda familiar – writing down information in an encyclopedic volume of work for future generations of houseki to use as a guide.

Another notable character is Cinnabar (a.k.a the sad lonely more competent gem who will eventually become best rival friend of the leading protagonist) who possesses a dangerous ability in that they (or he) can produce liquid poison from their body and use it to dissolve anything, anyone and everything around them.

Poor Cinna having to live in the most dangerous part of the island because they’re a danger to everyone. °(ಗдಗ。)°.

As best rival friends, the personalities of Phos and Cinnabar are opposites. Unlike most shonen friendship pairings have the cooler character being slightly arrogant in nature, Cinnabar vocalizes their dislike of violence and their desire to end their life because they cannot cope with their intense loneliness (due to everyone pretty much banishing them for who they are).

And of course, poor Cinnabar literally suffers as they use their ability despite having a weak body like Phos. #notfun

The animation that studio Orange uses for this anime is in part 3D animation mixed with digital art which offers a lot more flexibility in creating special effects for Cinnabar’s ability as well as putting in the “kira kira” in all of the characters’ hair. When compared to the manga artwork and the promotional video, the anime’s art style loses a bit of the cute soft lines to gain brighter colours and a whole shit ton of shine (to the point where I need a pair of sunglasses to watch some scenes, I joke you not).

The camera angles used by Orange is another aspect that really works in entertaining me. Not only is it used to showcase the difference in status and power between characters, it adds visual tension to the moment it is used in and makes action scenes more dynamic.

For instance, Master Kongo is always shot from a lower angle, emphasizing his position and status as the authoritative figure among the 28 houseki. It makes him appear daunting with his tall stature compared to the other characters as well.

There’s no doubt that he will crush you.

The visual tension added to this scene set at a lower angle helps the viewer understand a number of things:

As stated before, Master Kongo is basically a tree compared to everyone else.

Their sanctuary is hella big.

Despite how far the subjects are in the frame, Master Kongo’s voice reverberates, adding to the power he possesses in his relationship to Phos.

The dandelion fluff is significant because its symbolic of Phos, they are still developing as a gem but are moving along at a leisurely pace in their growth because they aren’t deemed as anything great. This scene foreshadows a “big” change in Phos’s life, which is also pointed out in Kongo’s line.

The lighting in this anime is hella intense.

The action scene featuring Morga and Goshe against the legion of Lunarians features a camera that moves along to the characters’ movements, which makes the scene a heck of lot cooler. Switching from an extreme close-up of Morga’s face as they flip backward to avoid arrows and the shot changes to a far shot that remains on Morga as they run forward toward the camera.

The characters’ movements are pretty slick in the action sequence. 

Once Morga grows closer to the camera, the shot becomes a middle shot before returning to a close shot of their face.

Studio Orange did a great job with the landscapes and detailed shots in the anime.

The music in the first episode did well to illustrate a scene’s mood. The beginning of the episode, for example, is a little piano melody which captures Cinnabar’s sadness in their solitude to a perfect S. The same melody builds in the proceeding seconds to a lighter melody to reflect Phos’ light-hearted character.

As I mentioned in my watch list, the opening song of Houseki No Kuni, Kyoumen no Nami by YURiKA is a true gem to my ears. The translated English lyrics I found online  deals with water imagery (including words like water’s edge, evening showers, evening dew) matching the look of the opening sequence to the anime.

My concluding words?

I’d like to binge the rest of the episodes once I get the chance.
