pairing: nam-gyu x gn! reader
genre: angst with some fluff
summary: nam-gyu relapses into drug use, and when y/n finds him in a fragile state, they offer comfort and reassurance. y/n promises to help him through the struggle, reminding him he’s not alone in the fight.
author’s note: i love nam-gyu. i just wanted to contribute and provide something for my fellow nam-gyu admirers. this imagine takes place prior to the games.
The dim light of the apartment barely illuminated the chaos inside. Clothes were strewn everywhere, a chair overturned, and the faint, acrid smell of smoke lingered in the air. You had come straight from work after Nam-gyu hadn’t returned any of your texts or calls all day. A pit of worry had settled in your stomach, and now, as you opened the door to find him sitting in the corner of the room, trembling, that worry turned to a heavy ache in your chest.
His knees were drawn up to his chest, arms wrapped tightly around them, his head resting on top as if the weight of the world was too much to bear. His once-vibrant eyes were clouded, red-rimmed, and glassy. A crumpled packet lay nearby, damning evidence of the fight he had tried so hard to win but lost today.
“Nam-gyu…” Your voice was soft, cautious, not wanting to startle him.
His head snapped up anyway, his face crumpling the moment he saw you. “I’m sorry,” he choked out, voice hoarse, as though he’d been screaming or crying—or both. “I—I tried. I swear I tried.”
You immediately knelt in front of him, reaching out, but he flinched. The sight broke your heart into a thousand shards. “Hey, it’s okay,” you whispered, even though it wasn’t okay. Not for him, not for you. But right now, he didn’t need reminders of failure. He needed you to anchor him before he drifted further away.
“I promised you,” he said, voice cracking. His hands shook violently as he pressed them against his temples, his breath coming in ragged gasps. “I promised I’d stop. I just—I couldn’t. It hurts, Y/N. It hurts so much.”
You inched closer, carefully wrapping your arms around his hunched form. He stiffened at first, but then his body crumbled into yours, his face burying in the crook of your neck. His skin was clammy, his breaths erratic.
“I’m here,” you murmured, stroking his disheveled hair. “You’re not alone in this. I’ve got you, Nam-gyu.”
He clung to you as though you were his lifeline, sobs wracking his frame. “What’s wrong with me?” he mumbled against your shoulder. “Why can’t I just be normal for you?”
“Nam-gyu, listen to me.” You pulled back just enough to cup his face, forcing him to meet your gaze. Tears streamed down his cheeks, and the sight of his anguish nearly undid you, but you steadied your voice for his sake. “You’re not broken, and you don’t have to go through this alone. I’m here, and I’ll keep being here, okay? We’ll get through this together.”
He nodded shakily, though his eyes still brimmed with self-loathing. You pressed your forehead to his, letting the silence stretch between you. Your steady breaths guided his, slowing his erratic rhythm until he could breathe without gasping.
“I’ll call the counselor tomorrow,” you said gently, brushing a tear from his cheek. “We’ll get you back on track. One step at a time.”
Nam-gyu sniffled, his lips trembling. “You really don’t hate me?”
You gave him a small, tender smile. “I could never hate you. You’re fighting, Nam-gyu. Even when you stumble, you’re still fighting. That’s what matters.”
His arms tightened around you again, and for the first time in hours, a faint glimmer of hope flickered in his tired eyes. You stayed like that for a long time, holding him close, reminding him with every touch and every word that he wasn’t alone—that you’d always be there, even when the battle felt impossible.

◯ Cho Hyun-ju x Gn!Reader
△ You join the games due to unexpected financial troubles, but you know someone familiar
▢ short story of two baddies not confessing to each other but they will soon
⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯
More of baddie hyunju because she has my heart :3 Wrote this while playing block blast! Also what if I wrote for daeho or se-mi or hear me out namgyu(player 124)
⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯
You were in complete shock when you found out Hyunju was also roped into the same game as you. Just seeing her for the first time in 2 months and she is risking her life to help two guys cross the line in the first game.
You felt your blood boil because she hasn’t answered any of your calls or text in 2 months and now you suddenly see her here. But you couldn’t bring yourself to hate her. You knew what she going through but it just broke your heart that she pushed you away when all you wanted to do was help.
Though you knew this place wasn’t safe you couldn’t help but press that damn blue button you just wanted to be on her side. To get close to her. To talk to her. To understand her more. So you choose something you’re not sure you will regret.
“Hyunju” you say as you approach her. “Y/n, what are you doing here?!” She says in a rushed and shocked tone while grabbing you to see if your hurt.
Though she won’t admit it to you, well not yet anyway. She has always felt something more for you but was too scared to act upon it because of the fear of losing another person she loves.
Still in shock she continued, she just couldn’t understand why you’re here. For all she knows you’re the most financially stable person she knows. Hell you even gave her some money for surgery as a present.
“Why are you here?” She questions with a demanding tone.
“Well it’s not like you would know considering you basically went radio silent for 2 months until now.” You answer while trying your best to not yell or cry. “But um…my parents were caught in fraud so image were that led up for me…” you felt so ashamed everything your parent were doing was happening right under your nose and you had no idea.
Grabbing your chin forcing you to look at her “I know you probably feel really shitty and stupid but considering what happened today we need to get out of here.” “But yo—” “I know what we both voted for but now with me knowing your here I can’t help but feel guilty that I pressed a stupid button that can make me lose you”
Your heart started pounding. She cared for you. She really did. But you just wanted to know one thing
“Why did you cast me out? Why did you leave me? Why did you disappear when I needed you most?” Your questions felt like multiple knives to her heart that didn’t stop coming. Especially with the tear forming in your eyes. She not sure how much longer she can stand seeing you like this.
It hurts. She just wants it all to stop. Wished she could go back and fix what she did and if she did made you wouldn’t even be here in this awful place you both got yourself into.
All she could just do now is hug you. Hug you like she going to lose you. Because based off what happened she not sure what will be either of your life’s outcome. She doesn’t want to pull away from you not now nor does she think ever. She knew better than to push you away but she didn’t want you get hurt considering her debt and the threats she thought it was for the best.
By the time you both finally pulled apart it was time for dinner. But you can’t help but think about when Hyunju would stay over and make the best dinner for you. Oh what you would give to eat her food at this time.
Unfortunately for you the meal provided looked and smelled nothing like Hyunju cooking making you frown. “Hey, I promise when we get out I will make you 3 meals a day for 2 months straight because after this we probably need it” you couldn’t help but giggle at Hyunju statement.
“Hmm. I think we need to make that 2 months into maybe more. Because nothing can beat your cooking at all.” You say while poking at looking at the food disgusted. “You’re like a real house wife, wait maybe you can be my house wife.”
Hyunju thought about that a few times. The thought about you two being together and oh man it makes her feel like teenage girl getting a text from her crush. She just wants to giggle, blush and kick her feet at that thought.
“House wife? Aren’t you moving a bit too fast?” She questions while blushing. “Well it the less you can do, come on think about it. I beg.” You say with a fake pout. Oh what that pout does to her. She just wants to kiss..
Wait kiss? Wait she really likes that idea maybe when she does become your house wife she can peck you.
“Fine. I will think about but you have to sleep. Who knows what in for us tomorrow.” She sighs. It finally comes back to your mind where you were and you sigh wishing nothing more to be back at your place with Hyunju.
⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯ ⎯
This will most and likely be a series though I wanted it be a one shot I got other ideas while writing! So hopefully chihiro comes back with more soon

To Love Again

Summary: Namgyu joined the deadly Squid Game to pay off debts and win back his ex-fiancée, Y/N, only to find she’s also a participant. Amid the danger, they confront their past, and love again.
Warnings: Substance abuse, stealing & betrayal, emotional conflict, cussing, angst, fluff (?) etc!
Characters: Namgyu x GN! Reader *Y/N*
Now Playing… Motel Whore - Nessa Barrett

Namgyu, a struggling club promoter buried in debt after years of failed gigs and poor decisions, is desperate to turn his life around. He needs the money, after all—he’d spent most of it on drugs and alcohol. But that wasn’t the only thing on his mind. Even with his financial problems weighing heavily on him, they didn’t compare to how much he thought of you. Namgyu joined the games to win, to return with enough money to provide the comfort and luxuries you both wanted—and so desperately needed. However, he knew it wasn’t going to be easy. After all, you were his ex-fiancée.
When Namgyu was invited to join the Squid Game with the promise of an enormous cash prize, he saw it as his only chance at redemption.
As Namgyu navigated through the brutal games, he was shocked to discover you were also a participant. Driven by your own financial troubles after the engagement was called off, you had found yourself here, just as desperate. Determined to win you back, Namgyu threw himself into dangerous situations to protect you, often clumsily flirting in the midst of life-threatening chaos. Despite your history and the emotional scars from the broken engagement, it soon became clear that you both still loved each other while fighting to survive together.
It was difficult to repress your feelings for Namgyu. You avoided his eyes, his flirting, and any other advances he made. You wanted nothing to do with him at first. He had stolen money from you multiple times before to feed his addiction to drugs and alcohol. The final straw came when you caught him stealing for the third time. You had thought you were marrying a good, caring man, someone who only had eyes for you. Instead, his real love had been drugs.
Sure, during your relationship with Namgyu, you had known about his drug use. You both weren’t perfect, but your relationship wasn’t miserable, and it still wasn’t without its cracks. You had trusted and cared for him so much, even when he tried to push you away. But when you discovered he had stolen from you—not just once, but multiple times—you called off the engagement in hurt and betrayal.

Three Months Ago:
Y/N: I can’t believe you, Namgyu.
Namgyu: What are you talking about?!
Y/N: Don’t play stupid with me! The money I had in my account—it’s all gone. I can’t believe you stole from me.
Namgyu: What the hell are you talking about?
Y/N: Don’t even begin to lie to me. I already know the truth.
Namgyu: I- I.. was going to return it! I just needed it for a little while.
Y/N: ‘You were going to return it’? That’s your excuse, Namgyu? I know this isn’t the first time you’ve stolen from me, too.
Namgyu: … I needed it for drugs, okay?
Y/N: Are you serious? So your solution was to steal from me? From the person who trusted and loves you the most? I’m your fiancée, for fuck’s sake!
Namgyu: I wasn’t trying to hurt you… It’s just—look, I can fix this—
Y/N: ‘Fix this’? By lying to me and stealing my money? That’s your idea of fixing things?
Namgyu: I messed up, okay? I’m sorry. I’ll do whatever it takes to make it right.
Y/N: Sorry isn’t enough, Namgyu. You’ve broken something between us, and I don’t think it can be fixed.
Namgyu: Please don’t do this… I lo—
Y/N: I’m done, Namgyu. I’ve always supported you, and this is the thanks I get? If you think I’m going to handle any more of your crap, take your ring back.
Namgyu: Baby, please… wait, please—

Present:
In the end, against all odds, you both survived the games. When the final votes added up to “X,” the players sighed in relief. You sat on your bed, eating your last meal, when Namgyu approached with a nervous chuckle.
Namgyu: You know, this whole ‘life-or-death’ thing really makes you rethink your priorities. I… I’ve been thinking about us.
Y/N: Namgyu, don’t start. This isn’t the time for your romantic speeches.
Namgyu: I’m serious, Y/N. I know I screwed up. I was selfish, irresponsible, and… I took you for granted. But seeing you here, fighting through all this—Y/N, you’re everything I wanted to be but never could. I don’t deserve you, I know that. But I still—
Y/N: Namgyu, stop saying you don’t deserve me. I’m not some perfect saint. I made mistakes, too. I wanted you to succeed so badly I didn’t see how much pressure I put on you. But… I never stopped loving you.
Namgyu: You… never stopped loving me?
Y/N: No, you idiot. I just didn’t know how to deal with the pain when we fell apart. But now… seeing you here, risking everything—risking yourself—I see the man I fell in love with again.
Namgyu: Really? Are you saying there’s still hope for us?
Y/N: We made it out alive, yeah? We’ll figure it out.. together this time.
Namgyu: I promise, Y/N. When we get out of here, I’ll spend the rest of my life making it up to you. No more running away. No more excuses.
Y/N: And no more drugs! But let’s wait a while before getting engaged again. We’ll get through this, Namgyu. Together.
Hand in hand, you left the game arena with a newfound understanding of love and resilience.
Years later, after rebuilding your lives together, Namgyu surprised you with a heartfelt proposal—this time ready to face life’s challenges as a team. You said yes! And your love story became one of hope and love again.

Note: Hi everyone! This is my first time writing a fanfic like this, and I’m still figuring out how to use Tumblr. I’d love to create a masterlist, but I’m not sure how to do that just yet. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed this little story! Feel free to follow me on TikTok for more content. Thank you! ♡︎

author's note: i hope you all enjoy and thank you so much for the likes and reblogs on my previous nam-gyu imagine. thank you!!! <3333
The shelter was dimly lit, crowded with uneasy contestants huddled together in small groups. The air reeked of sweat and fear, a grim reminder of the nightmare everyone was trapped in. You sat quietly in the corner, staring blankly at the ground as your mind wandered. For a moment, you managed to forget where you were—forget about him.
“Y/N.”
The sound of your name shattered your thoughts, and your stomach dropped. You didn’t need to look up to know who it was. His voice, deceptively soft yet laced with a possessiveness you knew too well, was unmistakable.
Nam-gyu stood a few feet away, his arms crossed as he surveyed the shelter. He ignored the wary glances thrown his way, his attention entirely fixed on you. Around you, conversations quieted, and the tension in the room seemed to shift.
You reluctantly lifted your head, meeting his gaze. “What do you want, Nam-gyu?” you asked, keeping your voice low.
He smiled, but it wasn’t friendly—it was smug, a predator’s grin. “Just checking on you,” he said, stepping closer. “You’ve been awfully quiet.”
You stiffened as he crouched down to your level, his face uncomfortably close. He reached out, brushing an imaginary speck of dirt off your shoulder. “You shouldn’t isolate yourself like this,” he murmured. “It’s not safe.”
“I’m fine,” you said curtly, leaning back to create some space, but he only moved closer.
“Fine?” he repeated, tilting his head. “I don’t think so. You’ve been acting strange lately. Distant.” He lowered his voice, his eyes narrowing. “Are you trying to avoid me?”
The murmur of the other contestants rose slightly, a few people glancing in your direction, but no one dared intervene. Everyone had their own battles to fight.
“I’m not avoiding you,” you lied, trying to keep your tone steady. “I’m just trying to get through this.”
His smile faltered, and for a brief moment, anger flashed across his face. But he quickly masked it, leaning closer until his lips were near your ear. “You don’t need to ‘get through’ anything, Y/N. I’m here. I’ll take care of you—like I always have.”
You turned your head, your voice firm despite the quiver in your hands. “I don’t need you to take care of me, Nam-gyu. That’s over. We’re over.”
A sharp intake of breath from one of the nearby contestants broke the tense silence. Nam-gyu froze for a moment, his jaw tightening. Then he leaned back, chuckling softly. “You’re still angry,” he said, his tone almost amused. “I get it. I messed up. But we both know I’m the only one who’s ever really cared about you.”
“That’s not true,” you said quietly, but he ignored you, his voice growing louder for the benefit of the room.
“Tell me, Y/N,” he said, gesturing to the shelter full of strangers. “Do you really think anyone else here would risk their life for you? Do you think any of them would even notice if you disappeared?”
The people around you looked away, avoiding your gaze. Nam-gyu’s smirk widened as he leaned in again, his voice dropping to a whisper. “But I’d notice. I’d always notice.”
You clenched your fists, willing yourself to stay calm. “You don’t own me, Nam-gyu. Stop pretending like you do.”
His smile faded, replaced by a cold, calculating expression. “I don’t have to pretend,” he said, his voice barely audible. “You’ll see. When this is all over, you’ll come back to me. You always do.”
He stood abruptly, his presence looming over you. “Remember what I said, Y/N,” he called over his shoulder as he walked away, his voice loud enough for everyone to hear. “Stay close to me. It’s the only way you’ll survive.”
The room was silent as he left, and you felt the weight of countless eyes on you. You sank back into your corner, your thoughts racing. The games were a nightmare, but Nam-gyu? He was a hell you’d thought you’d escaped—only to find yourself trapped with him once again.
