"The relationship of textiles to writing is especially significant, not only for the cuneiform-like qualities of many patterns (preserved in a Hungarian term irásos, meaning 'written'), but also for the parallels between ink on papyrus and pigment on bark cloth. There is, in fact, little difference between the two. Such connections are implied in many textile terms. For example, the Indian full-colour painted and printed 'kalamkari' are so named from the Persian for pen, kalam; the wax for Indonesian batiks is delivered by a copper-bowled tulis, also meaning pen. The European term for hand-colouring of details on cloth is 'pencilling'. The Islamic term tiraz, originally denoting embroideries, came to encompass all textiles within this culture that carried inscriptions. And the patterns woven into the silks of Madagascar are acknowledged as a language: the Malagasy vocabulary for writing and preparing the loom are synonymous, while the finest stripes are zanatsoratra, literally children of the writing, or vowels. The study of textiles is, in fact, a branch of palaeography, in which deciphering and dating reveals the stories encapsulated in cloth 'handwriting'.
With or without inscriptions, textiles convey all kinds of 'texts': allegiances are expressed, promises are made (as in today's bank notes, whose value is purely conceptual), memories are preserved, new ideas are proposed. Records were kept in quipu (khipu) a method of knotting string used by the Incas and other ancient Andean cultures to keep accounts and communicate information, the oldest of which is some 4,600 years old. Many anthropological and ethnographical studies of textiles aim at teaching us how to read these cloth languages anew. The 'plot' is provided by the socially meaningful elements; the 'syntax' is the construction, often only revealed by the application of archaeological and conservation analyses. Equally, the most creative textiles of today exploit a vocabulary of fibres, dyes and techniques. Textiles can be prose or poetry, instructive or the most demanding of texts. The ways in which they are used - and reused - add more layers of meaning, all significant indicators of sensitivities that can be traced back to the Stone Age."

Look what Google just recommended to me!!!!
I already own (and love) Shabbat and Portico.
But I am OBSESSED with the rest and must acquire them immediately.
Top of my list is Love Japan because LOOK AT THIS BEAUITFUL BOWL OF MATZO BALL RAMEN!!!!!
Tumblr media
We hear a lot about Jewish people in Europe and MENA, but we do not hear a lot about Jewish culture as it blends with East Asian cultures, and that’s a shame. Not just because it erases the centuries of Jewish populations there, but also because there are plenty of people of mixed decent. People who may not have come directly from Jewish communities in East Asia, but people who have a Japanese Father and a Jewish Mother, for example. Or people in intercultural marriages. These are all real and valuable members of the Jewish community, and we should be celebrating them more. This cookbook focuses on Jewish Japanese American cuisine and I am delighted to learn more as soon as possible. The people who wrote this book run the restaurant Shalom Japan, which is the most adorable name I’ve ever heard. Everything about this book excites and delights me.
And of course, after that, I’m most interested in “Kugels and Collards” (as if you had any doubts about that after the #kugel discourse, if you were following me then).
Tumblr media
This is actually written in conjunction with an organization of the same name devoted to preserving the food and culture of Jews in South Carolina!
I’m especially excited to read this one, because I have recently acquired the book Kosher Soul by the fantastic, inimitable Michael J. Twitty, which famously explores faith and food in African American Jewish culture. I’m excited to see how Jewish soul food and traditions in South Carolina specifically compare and contrast with Twitty’s writings.
I’m also excited for all the other books on this list!
A while ago, someone inboxed me privately to ask what I recommended for people to read in order to learn more about Jewish culture. I wrote out a long list of historical resources attempting to cover all the intricate details and historic pressure points that molded Jewish culture into what it is today. After a while I wrote back a second message that was much shorter. I said:
Actually, no. Scratch everything I just said. Read that other stuff if you want to know Jewish history.
But if you want to know Jewish culture? Cookbooks.
Read every Jewish cookbook you can find.
Even if you don’t cook, Jewish cookbooks contain our culture in a tangible form. They often explain not only the physical processes by which we make our meals, but also the culture and conditions that give rise to them. The food is often linked to specific times and places and events in diaspora. Or they explain the biblical root or the meaning behind the holidays associated with a given food.
I cannot speak for all Jews. No one can. But in my personal observation and experience—outside of actual religious tradition—food has often been the primary means of passing Jewish culture and history from generation to generation.
It is a way to commune with our ancestors. I made a recipe for chicken soup or stuffed cabbage and I know that my great grandmother and her own mother in their little Hungarian shtetl. I’ll never know the relatives of theirs who died in the Holocaust and I’ll never meet the cousins I should have had if they were allowed to live. But I can make the same food and know that their mother also made it for them. I have dishes I make that connect me to my lost ancestors in France and Mongolia and Russia and Latvia and Lithuania and, yes, Israel—where my relatives have lived continuously since the Roman occupation even after the expulsions. (They were Levites and Cohens and caretakers of synagogues and tradition and we have a pretty detailed family tree of their presence going back quite a long time. No idea how they managed to stay/hide for so long. That info is lost to history.)
I think there’s a strong tendency—aided by modern recipe bloggers—to view anything besides the actual recipe and procedures as fluff. There is an urge for many people to press “jump to recipe” and just start cooking. And I get that. We are all busy and when we want to make dinner we just want to make dinner.
But if your goal isn’t just to make dinner. If your goal is to actually develop an understanding of and empathy for Jewish people and our culture, then that’s my advice:
Read cookbooks.

Trying to figure out the year in Bram's/Fyodor's Backstory
So what I'm looking at is Vlad the impaler's timeline along with a few hints in the manga. But not much Dracula because I haven’t read the book, and also because the book takes place about 400 years later.
So the castle that Bram lived in, for people who don't know, is an actual castle in Transylvania Romania named Bran.
Basic info
Tumblr media Tumblr media
-Bran castle was built between 1377 and 1388. (Vlad the impaler never set foot in it but Dracula lived there.)
-Vlad III ruled Wallachia
-Vlad the impaler / Vlad III lived from 1431-1476 (He was defeated by the ottomans not Romans and his head was shipped to Constantinople/Istanbul)
-Vlad III’s reigns; 1448 (For a few months), 1456-62, and 1476-77.
It is a bit hard to truly connect to two while they ruled two different regions (Transylvania & Wallachia)
The knights
Tumblr media
In this panel, we can get a look of the types of armor these knights wore.
The majority of the helmets resemble a barbute helmet which was used in the 15th century
The rectangular shields (scutum) mostly disappeared by the end of the 3rd century
Mainly spears and Halberds (The spear ax things) with an occasional sword in the crowd of knights. (Spears were cheaper at the time)
The full body armor became popular between 1400-1500s.
Byzantine empire fell in 1453 while the holy roman empire fell in the 1800s.
What nation are the knights from?
This is the main question. Are these knights from the Holy Roman empire? The Byzantine empire before it fell? Most likely not the ottoman empire due to the amount of christian symbolism. It can’t be the Byzantine empire because they rarely if at all used Halberts. Also the Byzantine empire fell pretty early so it's unlikely they were associated with Bram’s defeat. It seems like the Holy Roman empire however they did not use rectangular shields, favoring a kite or heater shield instead. Then who else?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I couldn't find any good maps
Fyodor mentioned the North (Idk why Bram started blabbering about the west). Do you know what was north of Transylvania? The Kingdom of Hungary who also had a skilled army known as the black army that used rectangular shields and was big on spears and Halberd.
The Hungarian Black army (1458-1494)
From the evidence gathered so far, it must be 1458-76.
King Matthias & the Sultan
Tumblr media
Here, Bram asks Fyodor who he serves, either King Matthias (The king of Hungary) or the Sultan (Leader of the Ottomans). Bram was suspicious of the Sultan for the reason that they started eyeing Europe once the Byzantine Empire fell, along with his history with them (Held hostage as a boy). The tension between King Matthias and Vlad III started when Matthias received a letter from the saxons allegedly written by Vlad III in which he offered support to the Ottomans. This was enough to convince Matthias of Vlad III’s treachery so he imprisoned him from 1463 to 1475. Vlad III was intercepted and captured by Matthias after he had escaped Ottoman capture and sought Matthias for assistance. This could be when Bram was defeated in the manga(?) So I guess the year may have been 1462-1463?
Some bonus info that I noticed is that Matthias signed a peace treaty with the Holy Roman empire in 1463. Maybe Bram was defeated after they signed the treaty so they could form some sort of coalition against him (This could explain why the knights all had religious imagery on their helmets).
Another thing is that Bram was impaled(?) alongside two other women. In the Dracula book, I believe it was mentioned there were three female vampires that the protagonist had to defeat before killing Dracula in the castle. This could hint towards the fact that Bram was in the castle when he was attacked and defeated.
(I'm having trouble mixing history and fiction. Fyodor definitely had a hand in this. No way he just came to warn Bram for no reason)
None of these images are mine (I'm sure you know, but just in case)
Yeah that’s all I got, please comment to correct me and/or let me know if you know anything. (Might edit later idk)

incredibly Intrigued with your second entry in the What if george russell was cruel and mean list!! i looooved imperator could i get a snippet or maybe something about this second entry 🥺
Ooooh yes nonny you may! This WIP is unfortunately sitting in the proving drawer at the moment in the hopes that it will somehow double in size without me having to do anything, but it is essentially a James Bond AU where Alex, frontline agent for His Majesty's Government, finds his missions going sideways and his comms interrupted by scathing criticism from his dead former partner. A man he watched die.
Then things get, unsurprisingly, worse.
(This one is some way from completion, sorry nonny. But I'm pretty sure one of my halloween fest fics should qualify for the cruel and mean George category I have come to love so much, if that's any consolation.)
Snippet from what little I do have written of The Name's Bon, Al-bon (I promise that's just the stupid Gdocs title) under the cut
There’s still blood bubbling out between his fingers when the message comes. Horner’s cursing in his ear, telling him to switch extraction point asap, even though Alex has taken down the two who caught him off-guard and they’ve politely finished dying. Headshots will do that. They weren’t so kind to Paul though, and his throat is still working under Alex’s palm against the warmth pouring into his stomach.
It’s only the thought that letting him bleed out faster is a kindness at this point that persuades Alex to lift the pressure. He takes one of Paul’s hands in his own and squeezes. Clinical. Kind. Exceptionally selfish. It’s a particular skill he’s honed. Comforting the dying just enough to comfort himself.
Horner’s swearing cuts off for a split second of silence that makes the hairs on the back of his neck lift, though he’s still secure in his exits. There’s a soft, low whistle on the fresh feed, and then:
“Crikey, bit of a mess there, Albono.”
Alex’s right hand spasms around his Glock.
You can fake anything now, with enough raw material. Five minutes of audio, one of the techs had told him once, far too much enthusiasm in her voice, and she could sack half the Cabinet in the clear Harrovian tone of whichever prick they’d put in No 10 that month.
They’d had George for three days before he died. They’d had cameras. They had five minutes, easy.
Still, some animal part of him can’t recognise what he already knows. He should cut the line for being compromised, but he can’t bring his hand up all the way, caught on the too-loud breathing in his ear.
“Silent treatment? Wearing a bit thin, mate.”
It’s not quite right, the voice. Too smooth, Norfolk rock knocked off at the corners. Lower, too, like George is- was- older. Than he had been. But the words, the cadence - that’s good. Well-produced. Alex forces himself to think through the talent behind it, the intent and the work, as he takes the stairs three at a time. There’s a clatter below as the Hungarians make it through the back entrance and the hasty barricade the students had piled up before the gas got them.
“Tough day at the office, I guess. I thought you’d be better at this by now.”

My actual CVC headcanons written as I trudge through episode after episode in the hopes that I might see him for twenty glorious seconds (LONG)
Cookie Monster is his bestie, they hang out and act Strange together
He has phases of enjoying counting in certain ways. There are some days when counting zero of something is like hell to him, and others when it's all he wants to do.
His memory is borderline photographic; that's both how and why he keeps his counting diary. It helps him empty his head and show he's able to keep track of countable things that would otherwise be forgotten.
He moved to Sesame because he was getting sick of the same-same life of back home, restricted by whatever more ancient relics of count life were supposed to be; especially having to spend time talking to other Important People. On Sesame he gets to do what he wants and be like everyone else, even if he is different. It's also why he says his name is because of his hobby and not, like, the actual reason
He went to an international/accelerated school, where Matilda also went; it was indeed maths oriented, but the Count is exaggerating a bit when he says it was a "counting school".
He did actually catch a bit of an Australian accent from Matilda as a child, as she was his main source of English speaking, but it faded after she moved; all the teachers were either American-accented or had accents like his
He actually has no negative physical reaction to sunlight, he just doesn't like it because of the 'tism
He actually needs the monocle, it's a glasses lens, he read way too much in the dark as a kid
He didn't realise that hyponotising people for his counting purposes could upset people and had to be informed of the fact; but of course, this happened quite quickly, which is why it only happened a few times.
He loves watching sports and pays a great deal of attention to the stats. He especially loves sports analysis shows with "360" in the title. Book keeping etc has also, of course, always been of great interest to him, as well as anything else stats-based in pop culture, such as the census (as we know), elections, algorithms, and so on.
However, he isn't some sort of betting wizard. He is certainly good at counting up things, but putting them into practice and making an analysis of them takes more effort for him, especially if it's a synthesis of a variety of factors.
While he doesn't need a steady job these days, he does do odd accounting jobs during tax time to get himself something nice
He can do all sorts of mathematics, but he simply finds the most interest in counting (and by proxy smaller multiplication tables). He can help you with more challenging maths if you ask him; however, it isn't very interesting for him and he only knows it because of his time at his cute little special boy school
He and the Countess do speak Hungarian reasonably frequently, but not all the time
They knew each other before they met on Sesame, but only vaguely, through friends of friends of friends as children
He was nocturnal for a pretty long while but after he made more friends on Sesame he started to change his sleep schedule for convenience
^ In general, a lot of his vampirisms started to naturally go away after he made friends, and a healthy dose of counting every day keeps him hunky dory.
34,696 was only his favourite number on the day they asked; it changes constantly
He has one of those birthday cake books which teach you how to make numbers for kids' birthdays and we frequently bakes them for friends' birthdays as well as for whenever CM comes over
I'll add more later

So what makes you General Illyrin? Or does it mean you're Illyrin in general 🤔
Hello, @nerdy-catfish; thank you for the question!
When I first joined tumblr, I had recently finished reading The Secret Ways (also known as The Last Frontier), written by Alistair MacLean. The book is an espionage thriller inspired by the Hungarian Revolution of 1956, and centers on a British secret agent on a mission in Hungary during the Cold War. I don't know how historically accurate it is, but I remember really enjoying the book. (I haven't read it in a few years, so my memory of all the details is a little hazy.) My favorite character in it is Major-General Alexis Illyurin, the head of the underground network working against the Soviet government and a very smart man who has endured a lot in his life. He reminds me a bit of Maedhros, if that helps visualize his character. Because I admire his character, I decided to name my blog after him, changing 'Illyurin' to 'Illyrin' in order to hopefully make the name sound a little more fantasy-like.
And the only reason the name isn't Tolkien-related was that I had not at that point read the Silm XD

Okay so like. I feel like I keep pestering you in your notes about veilguard, so if it's annoying tell me to back off by all means. You're just in about the same spot in the game as I am and I need to scream about this to someone. Because like I got to *that* decision (between Minrathous and Treviso) and on one hand. I've been thinking of romancing Neve with my cocky, impulsive, righteous crow Rook, Felice. On the other, it would be deeply out of character for them to pick another city over the one they've been exiled from and miss like a limb. (And I'm from Italy and know the actual, real life Treviso well so it feels wrong for me too.) So like. Argh? I don't want to say I dislike that Bioware put this sort of decision in, if this choice really locks us out of either Lucanis' or Neve's romance. But I hope that it's more that it adds in a different twist to it...?
Oh no, not at all, I love your little comments! ❤️ (Even if I happen to get sidetracked and not respond right away, I do read them and nod along vigorously- plus, you know I'm a yapper, I do go on and on if someone just gives me an opportunity lol!)
I really don't dislike the decision itself! I LOVE that it has real stakes, especially in the interpersonal relationships, and especially in the ways that they affect each character differently depending on their background! It's all fine!
(Let's be real, there was no way in hell my Verbena was ever choosing another city over her beloved and beloathed Minrathous- and that would have been really tragic if I had intended for her to romance Lucanis, but I eat that drama right up. So this now feeds into a headcanon that even beyond the immediate and visceral attraction she felt to Davrin, there's also that awkwardness of an "if-literally-everything-had-been-different-then-maybe-something-could-have-been" with Lucanis on the back burner.)
I just... I don't know, all I really wanted was a warning, you know? A "hey, this makes certain quests unavailable, if you do this. are you sure?". Then I wouldn't have had to reload, and things wouldn't be all jumbled up in my head, because I wouldn't have fallen back hours in my playthrough, and I wouldn't have felt like I was forced into Treviso. I would probably feel more affection for the place if they had let me explore it on my own time, without it changing irreversibly being tied to the recruitment quest of the character I was most interested in since the very first trailer, ykwim?
I also get the strange feeling about it being tied to the real city- though I've gotta say, I personally hold so little affection for my own country that if it had a Hungarian city's name, I would... probably never organically choose to save it, lol. That would have completely written playing that faction off for me.
Already, when I ran into Neve's contact "Elek", oh god, I was instantly repulsed. Good thing NPCs are invulnerable, because I'm not the NPC-throttling kind, but him? I would probably have felt the urge to at least smack him. Just for the crime of being named Elek.

The Twins' Ethnicity (Migi & Dali Observation)
One thing that I haven't really seen talked about is the question of Migi and Dali's ethnicity. Of course, this is probably not important and likely has no bearing on the overall story and its greater messages. But I could be wrong, so who knows.
tl;dr: The boys are likely of French descent from their mother's side.
Below, I will elaborate and provide evidence towards this claim. Do note that *spoilers* from throughout the story will be mentioned.
One thing any reader/viewer will notice almost immediately is that the twins are not like the other people around them. Not only due they have blue eyes (which only Eiji shares), but they are also blonde (no, Youko doesn't count since she wears a wig). This is not surprising since the story takes place in Japan, and these traits are quite uncommon. In Chapter 1 of the manga, Youko takes note of this fact:
Tumblr media
Later, it is confirmed that Migi and Dali were the result of an affair between their mother Metry and Akira Ichijo. Assuming that Akira is mostly or fully Japanese given his name and appearance, it's likely that the twins are half-Japanese and that their "foreign blood" comes from Metry, who strongly resembles them.
To begin, it should be safe to assume that Metry is most likely of European origin. However, based on clues from the story, we can make a stronger conclusion, that Metry was French, and so the twins are likely half-French and half-Japanese, or something like that.
The biggest clues should come from the Ichijo house in which the twins were conceived and born in. After all, Reiko hired Metry to be her housekeeper, so it wouldn't be surprising if Reiko had an affinity towards Metry's culture.
Without further ado, here's the evidence I could come up with:
Based on the left/right meaning of the twins' names, it is likely that Metry is short for "symmetry" or "symétrie" in French. It's possible that Métrie was actually how her name was to be spelled.
The "Water Flea Song" that the twins remember when they were staying in the Ichijo confinement room was actually the song Clair de Lune, which means "moonlight" in French, and was composed by the French composer Debussy.
In Chapter 19 of the manga, the Ichijos have breakfast, which consists of croissants, and I think that a French omelette may have also been shown. There's also something about the Ichijo dinner table that just screams "French" to me, though I can't quite find the right way to describe it. I'm sure that someone with a better understanding of French cuisine can.
When Eiji asks for a kiss from Sali (Dali), he uses the word baiser, which means "kiss" in French.
When Eiji tries to send Reiko away so that he can talk to Sali (Migi), he specifically asks her to buy pain de campagne (a French sourdough bread) from Descartes (a bakery with a French name).
When Reiko discovers Sali (Migi) in the attic, she attempts to attack and later chases Migi with a baguette.
Not a clue, but there's just something about Dali's timeskip appearance that gives me "French intellectual/mathematician" vibes. I can't really find the right way to describe it.
Dali mentions that Migi's art is a form of cubism, whose origins can be traced back to Paris, France.
The final shot of the anime shows a tribute to Nami Sano, which is written in French.
In the sequel manga, Dali is seen reading what appears to be a Japanese translation of La Preuve, which was originally written in French by the Hungarian writer Agota Kristof.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hopefully, this is enough evidence to support this seemingly silly hypothesis. I do wonder if there are any particular reasons why Sano references French culture, but for now I can't really think of anything.

Again not a translator by trade I just do what I can with the knowledge of the language only the Devil and Hungarians speak. I would love to get some notes, or help, because this one is full of misinformation in my humble opinion. So… uh… have the Youngkin book ready I guess…
Peter Lorre – the hero of horror movies is – Hungarian!
Talking with the famous actor’s father in Budapest
Slowly climbing our way up the snow covered street in Buda. We stop before a modest looking villa that stretches into a garden. Under the doorbell stands a small nametag:
LAJOS LÓRÁNT (Translator’s notes: Okay, so this article came out in 1947, after Hungary’s involvement in WWII… on the worst side possible and after the “liberation” by the Soviet army. Now it wasn’t uncommon for Jewish people to change their name to something more Hungarian for assimilation purposes. And during that time people who had a German sounding name could be deported back to Germany… even if they lived in Hungary for generations and had no political involvement in the war. The worse option was of course a brutal death. So that’s my guess as to why it says Lóránt instead of Löwenstein.)
Inside the warm room, among the heavy furniture we shake hands with a kind old man. With Lajos Lóránt, the father of Peter Lorre, the world famous actor, the big star of the so-called >>horror movies<<. We are talking about his son, who appeared in nearly almost every big European city, but his success reached its zenith in Hollywood. Old photos, yellowed articles emerge from the depths of the huge drawer. The past is mixed with the present here, the drawer shows us the ascending career path of a great actor.
– Peter was born in Rózsahegy (Translator’s note: If you are not Hungarian I guarantee you are pronouncing it wrong.), but he was still a child, when we moved to Vienna. He studied there, – the old man’s eyes start to shine – he graduated with honors from the Wiener Handelsakademien. For a short while he worked at a bank, but his dream, to become an actor, didn’t let him rest behind the boring desk of the foreign exchange department. With his young friends he organized an experimental stage, where they performed commedia dell arte plays. – they failed with it. He first performed in a serious play in Breslau, and from here his journey lead to Zürich. (Translator’s notes: If anyone could add more to these please do so. I don’t remember anything about either places.) Then he performed in Vienna with astounding success, then he went to Berlin. There he was spotted by Fritz Lang, who contracted him for the main role in >>M<<. The peculiar movie became a world hit, and with certainty established Péter’s career as an actor.
A faded newspaper, with yellowed edges comes out from the drawer now, the first Hollywood article, which was written of Peter Lorre.
>>…Peter Lorre – states the article – doesn’t hold onto the hundreds of critiques, he only put away one. That copy of the Times, where Chaplin has said that he has seen >>M<< three times and that he considers Peter Lorre the best European actor.<<
After the nazis seized power Peter Lorre has also immigrated, first to Paris, and then to London… The great actor was received with a warm welcome by the free people of the free countries. In London with one of his roles he won the English producer’s first prize, which is equivalent to an American Oscar. (Translator’s note: What?) Mr. Lóránt is now telling us about an episode in London:
- There was a group that got together in London, the immigrants, we went there together with Péter. (Translator’s notes: The story makes it sound as if papa Löwenstein was also there with him in London, but he wasn’t… as to my knowledge… anyway let’s continue…) One day a producer has joined us, he also came from Germany. He told us of an interesting and a typical incident. When the nazis took over the UFA studio, one day Goebbels visited the ateliers in Neubabelsberg. Everyone was there to see the >>tall<< visitor. Then Goebbles had asked: - Tell me, you had once a great actor… a sort of short little man… Why is he not here? - Minister, there’s a bit of a problem with him… - Problem?! What sort of problem?! I can smooth it over! - I’m afraid, Minister, that this problem cannot be fixed. - ??? - Minister, with Peter Lorre the problem is with his… religion! Goebbels straightened himself out, and his expression turned dark: - I no longer know this man! (Translator’s notes: Not a loss if you ask me. Burn in Hell nazi scum~)
Newer photos emerge, these are from America. Success, after success.
- Does your son write often? - Oh, of course. Always with such love and would love for me to move out to him. There’s a possibility it’ll happen around the summer. And he always writes in Hungarian, always, and he always states he is Hungarian. (Translator’s notes: Again what??? Man didn’t speak the language, but he could write??? That’s new info for me… but in a previous one we were also told by papa Löwenstein that he hates writing letters and would rather call home instead… I do feel validated tho, because yes Hungarians ride horses and women, man did not deny his roots. If anyone calls him a different nationality from here on I will be collecting kneecaps just saying.)
Our time is up, the photos and articles go back into the drawer. Mr. Lóránt puts away even the smallest paper piece with such great care, as if it were expensive porcelain.
Original article by György Gaál.
Text under images:
In the first movie, in the main role of Fritz Lang’s drama >>M<<
With his father, in 1930, at Siófok (Translator’s notes: Uhhh… in the previous one I translated this image was said to be taken in 1921 Budapest… Did papa Löwenstein remember it wrong, it has been 10 years and I’m unsure how old he was at this point… He could’ve just misremembered, or the journalist made an error. Either way I feel gaslighted. If anyone knows if he took any vacays near Lake Balaton lemme know.)
With his wife in Palm Springs. The white horse was a gift from Robert Taylor

now. fair warning. this got LONG. so. sorry about that. you're just too talented.
okay but i just saw this graphic so. that's the favorite right now 'cause the colours? the style? the concept? the space/magic vibes? devastating for me in particular? the font/style choice in the 'la pista magica'? stunning. 'cause the edges aren't smooth? they have a bit of texture to them, which i LOVE 'cause it makes them look like ink? like they've been written on paper?
BUT. moving on to more of your things 'cause i can't name just ONE of your things to be my favorite.
the first edit i ever saw of yours was the bottle cap series? which. i still LOVE them. the way you gave each of them such a different personality/vibe. my favorites are 'hamilton's seltzer' and 'tsunoda's strawberry soda' but i love ALL of them and i fully intend to buy all of them the next time i order from redbubble 👀
now. we absolutely cannot talk about your edits without bringing up your race poster series. 'cause. i might have said that your most recent poster was my fave but. it's got some TOUGH competition there. the zandvoort, the belgian, the hungarian, the silverstone, the austrian, the spanish. like. do you EVER miss? i say not. now. to stop this from getting veryVERY long. some cliff notes. the zandvoort one brings out some real 'spending the day at the beach' vibes. and the simple colours makes it long real nice in juxtaposition to the hungarian one 👀 'cause that also has simple colours but much darker ones? now. the belgian one. i LOVELOVELOVE old american national park posters? so you being inspired by them when making that one? for me actually 😌 the silverstone ones? all bangers. a very different vibe to the other posters but so clean and beautiful? the bright colours all look so nice together. they would all make beautiful posters on their own but together? there's just something special then. now. the austrian one. MIGHT be the actual fave. it's difficult af 'cause they're. ALL. faves. but. it's SO FREAKING COOL??????? it's the same sort of style as your pinned post and your galex aka THE BEST FUCKING STYLE??????? but DAMN, it must take an eternity and a half to make??????? the different text styles, finding colours that match nicely together but also stand out on their own? figuring out what to WRITE???? all the little comments??? 'indycar? logan sargeant app launch!' OUCH. in hindsight. 'williams? alpine? sauber? the big question' HILARIOUS. in hindsight. now. NOW. we get to another one where i'm like. is THIS one? actually my favorite?? 'cause. the spanish gp one??? so simple? but so stunning? really gives off old school vibes and i fuck with that. and there's NOTHING superfluous there? it has everyhing it needs and not a bit more. it just makes the rainbow track stand out even more.
+ bonus faves
this alex one. it just- i LOVE the style you went with for the car? so much? it just gives me. balloon? vibes? one of those novelty balloons you get from a clown? idk. it's hard to describe but i lovelovelove it.
this one for miami/logan 'cause i would LOVE to have this on my wall/slanted ceiling with the rest of my art/postcards that's on there. i know it's technically a recreation of the days of thunder poster but with an f1 twist but i would argue it's actually better than the days of thunder poster 'cause it doesn't have any tom cruise on it. 10/10. would buy. (sorry issy. not a cruise fan 😅)
this paramore one. once again. WOULD and WILL buy this as a poster when i make my next redbubble order. 'cause. i. love. space. so. much. and i just love this piece so much 'cause it's quite simple but also very beautiful.
your 'meet deafleppard' one? absolutely. BAFFLINGLY good. like. how does one even? (also i'm still freaking curious what your beef with pinocchio is????)
this lewis one????????? 'cause. 'don't call it a comeback. i've been here for years'? *CHEF'S KISS* combining ll cool j and lewis is the best fucking decision ever. actually.
the galex one????? no words. just stab me. 'he's always been at the front in everything he's done and i don't know what the hell is going on and i feel really bad form him because's hes being made to look like an idiot and he's absolutely not' INSANE to include. they drive me crazy. (also i adore the little gif like sections? the little moving heart/etc)
this seb one. 'cause. yes. (again. would put on my wall.)
send me a 🎨 and i'll tell you my favourite gifset/edit/fic/art piece/fanvid/etc of yours

On the topic of nfcv and its inconsistent; i tend to feel im harsher on nfcv and it's usage of representation since i dont tend to pay much attention to it ( It is good to let ppl see themselves on screen and its important to not fall into harmful sterotypes but it wont make or break a show for me unless its really bad). And castlevania has multiple historical/mythological inconsistencies (Matthias Corvinus rolling in his grave) and could have better representation ofc (the only poc main character i can think of is Ortega the were-lion antagonist from Legacy of Darkness the obscure n64 game). But you know? Cv's half goofy tone from it's origins as a monster smash makes it work w that, plus it's not the main focus. Meanwhile a huge selling point for nfcv has been it's ""gritty realism"" and ""seriousness"", and it's been praised to hell and back for it's "representation", when said rep isn't really good. So, i can be fine w SotN using a funny n completely historically innacurate mummy boss or having an skeleton serpent named Qetzacoatl (even if you can debate how those stereotypes can be harmful like egyptologists having to debunk the mummy curse myths), but the whole Sekhmet catgirl n aztec Orlox parts just makes me roll my eyes bc it will be blindly praised. I fear to be hypocritical here so that's my argument, and apologize for rambling in your inbox i swear this was shorter in my mind-
Pd: Yes Ortega is the og catboy, respect for him
I use this logic for Isaac lol. Yes, he relies on old and potentially offensive gay stereotypes, such as being in-your-face sexual, kinky in a creepy way, and even effectively molesting Trevor in the stabbing scene with his little kiss. And he's the villain contrasted with the more masculine hero. And he dies in the end. Yeah.
But aside from the fact that the game series overall is old-ish so outdated writing is to be at least expected, I don't get the feeling that this is meant to be "representation". And I'm certainly not meant to ohhh and ahhh at it. It is what it is, you know? The story says "here's the antagonist, he's very fruity", and you decide how to take it.
NFCV wants to be praised, and it is praised, for representation, for adding POC and gay people and cultures from all over the world, and it does so in a far less goofy setting that forces me to apply real-life logic to it. It also began in 2017, definitely at a time where writers were asked to pay attention to what the hell they're writing.
CV as a series was born as a love letter to Hammer horror movies, so it's a mishmash of monsters without rhyme or reason. NFCV wants to have a serious, real-adjacent world building, so that's why I ask "why is a Hungarian vampire worshipping an ancient Egyptian sun god"? Why are there Japanese people in Europe about a century before Europeans contacted Japan? Why is your idea of bi representation a threesome turning into rape?
So yes, I do believe that the show, in its arrogance, needs to be put at a higher standard than games written between the 80s and the 2000s. Not that they're exempt from criticism, ofc, I will always complain about stuff like the fridged women. Just... The games don't expect an applause for what they did.

Oz & Eddie donutified. 28/03/2023
A few words about what it all means under the cut, because hell, I won’t let my shameless overthinking go to waste lol. (It's not a few words, it's long, be prepared).
EDWARD
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So, kiwi and pennyroyal mint icing.
The kiwi is interesting, kind of a visual thing. You get that brown fruit, nothing spectacular but all fuzzy and kinda cute, then under that skin (skin that is edible but most often discarded because not very enjoyable to eat) you get that delicious shiny bright green thing! So that is, to me, little old Edward Nygma the forensics guy being discarded in favor of the Riddler. Though I would argue that Ed is tasty too but… he himself wouldn’t quite agree, would he?
As for the pennyroyal mint, I wanted something fresh and delicious and green, just like our Eddie, that would go well with a fruit (at that point I had chosen lime rather than kiwi but both work well with mint), so mint naturally came to mind. I looked into different types of mint, all very tasty, and pennyroyal can be toxic (even caused some deaths!) so I couldn’t choose anything else, really. Also I first misread its binomial name as Mentha Penguin instead of Mentha Pulegium soooo yeah. Do you believe in fate?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And the filling.
Answer to the riddle (I’ve never written a riddle before I hope this wasn’t too bad lol):
Mystery salts: My twentieth is capital, my twelfth a lesser case. But bring them together, and eighty-one they'll make.
“Capital” and “lesser case” are hints, you should look into letters. The 20th letter in the alphabet is T. The 12th is L. Bring T and l together, you get Tl. Tl is 81, because it’s the symbol of thallium, atomic number 81 in the periodic table. Also I called it “mystery salts” as in chemical salts. Soluble thallium salts you could put into food.
Yes it’s fucking THALLIUM FLAVORED. That is actually tasteless, but you’ll definitely start to feel the spice - so to speak - after a few hours. Fortunately, the filling is still delicious thanks to the star fruit base. This one was chosen for obvious reasons aside from being sweet & sour ⭐ ✨ Thallium, I chose for three reasons:
It is a grey metal, nothing special visually, but it makes bright green flames when burned. Good old Ed consumed by Riddler’s fire… Or unleashing his fire through Riddler? Also chemistry is cool and Ed agrees.
Ed’s donut needed to be murdery, obviously. Thallium is extremely toxic and has often been used as poison, including for murder :) Being tasteless is a great advantage in this context.
The guy put a bullet in a cupcake and I thought I’d honor the tradition. Something about him being tasty af but also toxic af. A dapper dude in shiny green is a dangerous thing. That is also why I chose a straight up toxic chemical element instead of looking for a toxic fruit or whatnot - it needed to absolutely not even remotely sound like it belonged there, like the bullet.
OSWALD
See the lace decoration I put there? There’s a nice little explanation behind it.
I was writing about Oswald’s identity, how he became who he is and how he embraced the whole Penguin thing. And I thought it would’ve been sweet if, after Gertrud’s death, he went back to his original name - Kapelput - as a way to honor her and put pride back in the name he discarded before.
So when I started drawing his donut, I really wanted some Hungary and some Gertrud in there, while not overpowering the rest of Pengy. I also wanted some elegant decoration, so I thought I’d check whether Hungary had some nice fabric, embroidery, etc. Something Gertrud would’ve probably liked. And indeed! I found out about Matyó embroidery.
Tumblr media
The more I read about it, the more it fit (Source: nlc):
“ ‘Well, that’s no Matyó embroidery’ - we used to say disparagingly about an old-fashioned, slightly tasteless piece of clothing. “ Oswald is nothing if not stylish. He would learn this phrase in Hungarian and insult his pawns during important meetings when he can’t just lash out, hiding the snark under the language barrier.
The name apparently comes from a king, King Mátyás. Nothing less for the king of Gotham.
The most known motif is the red Matyó rose… A red rose is a symbol of love and passion - who better than Oswald, a man of heart and all its whims, could wear it? Also, the story behind this rose is about finding a clever solution to an impossible, dangerous situation, which is also very Oswald. The story, translated as well as I can from the linked article:
“The devil kidnapped the groom of a Matyó bride and demanded a bunch of roses as a ransom. However, since it was during winter, there were no roses blooming anywhere in the area, but the resourceful girl did not despair. She drew a copy of her huge apron, embroidered it with more and more beautiful blooming roses during the night, and then took it to the devil. The devil liked the gorgeous dress and the girl's creativity so much that he was forced to return the groom, so the expected wedding took place without any problems.”
I first drew it in full color, as close as possible to the real-life stuff, but it wasn’t very Oswald, so I only kept the patterns and changed it to dark lace. Just the ghost of his mother - she isn’t there anymore, after all, but her influence and love will follow him until the end.
Tumblr media
And now the flavors…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
First, the icing:
Apple - the forbidden fruit, of course. You don’t just refuse Oswald anything. If you tell him the apple is forbidden, he’ll soon be an apple magnate (or in this case an apple donut) - and you’ll be dead or worse. I specifically chose hidden rose apple, because it has a secret :) Its flesh is pinkish-red (hence why it works for this icing). You can read as much or as little symbolism as you like into this choice, as apples have a lot of history and beliefs attached to them. Personally, after much reading, I like the general sense of temptation and love it has. Oswald is all about that, passions. Wants. Love. And he’s certainly full of surprises, like the hidden rose… also, “hidden rose” in reference to red flesh. Red rose, then. Passion. How fitting.
Purple yam (ube) - tastes nutty and earthy. Big balls energy. Purple. Works great in pastries including donuts. Sometimes, a simple solution is best.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The filling:
Norton grapes. Thanks NBC’s Hannibal for showing me this one. Same color on the outside and on the inside, unlike most other grapes. “A grape with nothing to hide”, a grape that shows its true colors, a grape that finds strength and value in its identity. I’m talking about Oswald, of course, after he learns to do the same. Notably, Norton grapes are used to make red wine - Ozzie’s favorite thing after Ed - and it’s apparently a good one. I know nothing about wine though lol, I just drink it.
Black Prince Pepper. Ozzie got downgraded from king to prince but oh well, still royalty. I really wanted pepper in there, something well-known to the public but with bite and heat, thunder - something you don’t just bite and get away with it unfazed -, so I looked into purple peppers and found this one! It’s a tiny little pepper, but it can get really hot! It changes colors as it grows: purple, black, red. Oswald’s three colors :) yes I’m counting blood in there :)
I’ll let you decide whether the “it bites back” warning is literal or not.
ANYWAY. Did I spend wayyyyy too long thinking about a donut version of two fictional characters for a silly drawing, neglecting my real-life responsibilities in the process? Absolutely. Do I regret anything? Absolutely not.
Real talk though this was a really fun puzzle to figure out! I love how much thought and research I ended up putting into this. At first I just wanted to make nice looking donuts for the boys but… it got a bit out of hand. If you have any alternative flavours in mind for them I’d love to hear about it!
Thanks for reading, and have a very nice day!!! Think of me next time you eat a donut ~ 🍩
PS. I have a batman (mostly Telltale and soon Gotham) blog @thelordofthelaughs. Not very active rn but you never know.

Alright. Let's Talk Matthias Corvinus
Tumblr media
Okay. As the good guy now finally showed up in The lesser Evil, let's talk about Matthias Corvinus, because he is so weirdly important to Castlevania Lore, while also being completely ignored by it.
See, it is agreed upon that in quite a few ways Mathias Cronqvist, aka Dracula before he became Dracula, was based around Matthias Corvinus, who was King of Hungary between 1458 and 1490. Though very few aspects of Corvinus stayed when the character was written into Lament of Innocence outside of the name and some similarities in design, as well as a (claimed) fascination with the occult. Other than that, of course, Mathias in Lament of Innocence was mostly based on the depiction of Vlad Tepes Draculae from the 1992 Dracula movie by Coppola.
But, let's turn towards the historical character of Corvinus. Now, I will flat out state: Yes, I took some bits and pieces of what we know about him and basically designed an original character around it. But as I started to write the story, I looked a lot into who was ruling what bit of land and how were politicsgoing in Europe at the time. Now, we already do know that the history in the Castlevania Lore will differ in two ways: For one, the King of Wallachia is definitely dead and there is no successor (we see that in season 4), and, two, said King was very probably not Vlad Tepes Draculae, as I do assume there are no two Vlad Tepes running around at the same time. 😅 We can, however, assume that Corvinus still is the King of Hungary, which had a direct border to Wallachia at the time. Historically speaking, Vlad Tepes and Matthias Corvinus were uneasy allies in the fight against the Ottomans, which was going on at the time in question (though technically speaking it went on for a long long time after). But, also, Corvinus was having a war with Bavaria-Austria at the time over some parts of Austria and Bohemia, which Corvinus claimed should be part of Austro-Hungary. The entire issue about the Austro-Hungarian Realm is another thing, that stretches through history and brought a lot of conflct over the centuries.
In this case specifically, it just had happened, that there had been revolts against the clergy and the power of the Holy Roman Empire in Bohemia and even though it was revolts, it turned out that it was hard to quell based on the fact that the revolting folks had literally outgunned everyone else. They had guns, everyone else did not. And they knew how to tactically use them, too. So Austria and the HRE were struggling to suppress the revolts and asked Hungary for help. Hungary basically said: "Fine, but we gonna talk about those pieces of land that should be Hungarian." And yes, they suppressed the revolt, but in the end Hungary did not get that land, hence they had a war. And yes, Hungary went for two-front-war (against Austria and against the Ottomans), because Hungary had something nobody else had: A standing army of professional soldiers, compared to the other armies, that were mostly armed peasants.
Now, of course, those conflicts have probably changed through what has happened within the series. Namely: The entire Ottoman-Wallachia-Hungary conflict was very probably broken up, given that the night creatures did not give a flying fuck about who they killed and I do assume that both the Ottomans and the Hungarians withdrew from Wallachia, to try and secure their own lands against the night hordes. And while we do not know how far Dracula's armies did get, we do know that they at least made it to Austria, based on Carmilla's words at the beginning of season 3. Which also makes me think, that the Hungarian Black Army did loose at least some of their 19 000 men to the night hordes. Which might lead to them trying to find a way to fill up their ranks again.
Which is where the claims (that are not quite proven historically) about Matthias Corvinus being fascinated by the occult come into play. I decided to just run with it and have him hence be quite open to Bluebeard coming in and offering him a magic army. Especially as Dracula has now established the might such an army might have. So, yes, our dear king is playing with forces he does not quite understand. But I guarantee you, he will be an important character in this. 😊

THE RECORDING SESSION
Tumblr media
Soundtrack Recordings for Paramount’s King Creole January 15–16 and 23, 1958 at Radio Recorders and February 11, 1958 at Paramount Soundstage, Hollywood. King Creole gave Elvis his most challenging movie role yet. Based on the Harold Robbins novel A Stone for Danny Fisher, it presented an opportunity to work with the acclaimed Hungarian-born director Michael Curtiz (whose work included Casablanca) and placed Elvis alongside accomplished actors such as Carolyn Jones [as Ronnie, Maxie's mistress], Walter Matthau [as Maxie Fields, the local gangster], and Dean Jagger [as Mr. Fisher, Danny's father]. The music was to be an integral part of this serious and rather dark story of a young singer (in the novel he’d been a boxer) trying to make it in the nightclubs of New Orleans. Traditional New Orleans music had its own very specific African-American roots, and Elvis always pointed to New Orleans R&B (Fats Domino was probably its leading exemplar) as instrumental to his development. But Elvis hadn’t gone over all that well in New Orleans when he appeared there three times in 1955, and the Memphis brand of rock ’n’ roll was very different from the New Orleans tradition. To help create an authentic Dixieland sound, Paramount hired some of L.A.’s best session players for the recording: a four-piece brass section augmented by bass player Ray Siegel, who doubled on tuba. Elvis’s own band was supplemented again by piano player Dudley Brooks, and by a second drummer at an extra recording date later when the complexity and variety of the rhythms proved too much for Bill Black and D. J. [Fontana] to handle. With fourteen musicians in the band, this was by far the largest group Elvis had ever worked with in the studio, but for engineer Thorne Nogar it would be business as usual. Elvis’s support team included Paramount musical director Charles O’Curran as well as Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, who had just signed on as producers for RCA. As Elvis’s favorite writers of the moment they brought material to the session, along with other Elvis Presley Music regulars like Aaron Schroeder and Claude DeMetrius, who sent in two infectious rock ’n’ roll originals. The ever-dependable Ben Weisman and his partner, Fred Wise, came up with “Danny” as a proposed title cut, along with several other new songs.

LYRICS — "DANNY" (Fred Wise/Ben Weisman)
My name should be trouble My name should be woe For trouble and heartache Is all that I know But Danny, yes, Danny is my name My life has been empty My heart has been torn It must have been rainy, oh, yeah The night I was born Oh Danny, oh Danny is my name I'm so afraid of tomorrow So tired of today They say that love is the answer But love never came my way I'm writing a letter To someone I know So if you should find it, yes, And if you're alone Oh Danny, yes, Danny is my name Oh Danny, yes, Danny is my name

TELL ME ABOUT ABIGAIL
OKAY OKAY :DD
abigail is a young adult novel written by hungarian author magda szabò in 1970 - as far as i know it's like a cult classic childhood foundation text in hungary but i dont know anyone from hungary so cant really confirm that
its about a young girl, gina, who's father is a military general in the second world war - he is sending her off to an incredibly strict boarding school all the way across the country. hungary was on the losing side of world war two. she of course, doesn't know this as it hasnt happened yet, and is mad about being sent away from her father. she's really quite pretentious and has a general attitude of superiority which leads to her being almost immediately ostracised by Everyone in her year. and i mean Everyone, all the other girls hate her. the title, Abigail, is the name of a statue in the grounds of the school, which all the girls think is some sort of magical being who helps them out in surprisingly tangible ways (gina of course thinks this is rubbish).
with the war looming over everyone, and surrounded by young girls who's lives are entirely the world of the Very insular school, and the elaborate fantasies in their minds of meeting a handsome boy and getting married, gina learns........ to be a nicer person is not a very good description of it?? like she Does learn how to respect other's feelings and relationships and people work, and is a lot more likeable at the end, but also how dangerous the world was for her.... like the character development is just sooooo so so so good ough. like the war was a nebulous concept for all the girls as the school in their very filtered view of it, whereas You The Audience know that her father is the general of an army working with nazis. she doesn't. usually i dont like wwii books because i dont want to read about war or nazis but they arent central to the story, just looming specters over it. haunting the narrative one might say. i don't mean to be offputting in this bit btw!!! just feel like i should mention
it does for sure have a somber tone, and it is a bit depressing, but that's not really the point? of the book?? like she is quite sad, but is a contemplative and atmospheric way, and it isnt brushed aside as 'teenage sullenness' but also isn't dragged out for no reason, its very very well written. i don't remember the exact content for warnings or anything, but even though it does have a dark tone, nothing horrific happens - sad, not horror in any way.
but yeah i really really liked gina, even though she is Awful nearer the start of the book, there's a sort of spark in her, and i loved her rebellion and then later her contemplative moments and oagsiasiahiun i think i might go reread this rn..........

Ok, so hungarian nicknames, I thought to mainly compare the ones I saw in your post. I actually logged in to desktop to write this ask cause formatting kept screwing me up on mobile.
Mein(e) Liebe/Liebste - my love/dear - szerelmem/drágám(kedvesem) (drágám is often used, the others aren't foreign but might get you called cheesy, I personally like kedvesem a lot) 'szerelem' (love) is the base word that turns into 'szerelmem' to signify that you're My love. 'drága' (expensive) turns into 'drágám'. 'Kedves' (nice or kind) is the base word that turns into 'kedvesem'.
Mein Schatz - my precious - drágaságom (used more jokingly, especially if one knows of Gollum) drágám is more like an adjective while 'drágaságom' is the noun version and yes hungarian Gollum says this
Mein(e) Spatz(el)/Taube - my sparrow/dove - verebem/galambom (will get you teased if used very publicly but i think it's cute) 'Veréb' turns into 'verebem' and 'galamb' turns into 'galambom'
Mein Herz - my heart - szívem (very common pet name, szívecském too as a very diminutive form, used more jokingly) 'szív' is the base word, turns into 'szívem'. It's written with a long "í" that is pronounced as a long "í" in szív but is pronounced as a short 'i' in szívem (usually, dialects differ everywhere tho)
Schnucki - cute (cutie?) - cuki (aranyos) I'm pretty sure cuki comes from 'cukor' which means sugar. Aranyos is the less slangy way of saying it but it's not used as a pet name (arany = gold, aranyos could mean cute or endearing or golden, though the golden use of aranyos is old fashioned and not really used)
Hasi - bunny - nyuszi(m) (used frequently) 'Nyúl' is the base word that turns into 'nyuszi' or 'nyuszim'. Nyúl isn't used as a pet name, it's always turned into nyuszi first and maybe nyuszim to signify 'my'.
Kätzchen - kitten - cica (cicám) I put this here cause kitten is so prevelant in fic and i have the great fortune that my mom has called me the equivalent ALL my life and still. So whenever I see it now it gives me the most visceral of icks. (:
The rest of the nicknames don't really have a counterpart but i do wanna ask what "Däubsche" means cause google translate doesn't help.
Well, I hope you'll find this interesting, I went and checked google translate and it pronounces the words quite well if you're wanting to know how they sound like!
Thank you for such a thorough list/ explanation! I need to remember to look the pronounciation up because I am very curious!
Also drágaságom makes me think of dragons 😂 and just based on how I pronounced them in my head I really like aranyos. The word is giving me ✨ vibes ✨
Which brings me to some you mentioned I didn’t.
So I left out the literal translation for cute/ sweet would be Süße/Süßer but that‘s only used when you flirt with people as far as I know and not when you’re longer in a relationship.
Kitten I left out on purpose because I’ve never heard anybody call their significant other that though it could get more prevalent with fanfic but idk. Also something that might be used as flirting or teasing.
I think a lot of people use Baby nowadays, especially millennials and under. My mom uses Schatzi/ Schatz a lot which I’ve also heard with younger people.
Okay for Däubschen: there are some German dialects where certain hard sounds like T and P are turned into softer sounds like D and B as well as ch into sch. „Chen“ as an ending or „schen“ in dialect always makes a word mean the cuter (and usually smaller) version of whatever you have.
Taube -> Täubchen (cute version of dove) and in dialect (don’t ask me which dialect lol) it then would be Däubschen which truly sounds atrocious
Hope this made sense I wrote this after waking up from a nap
