Illium / Aodhan Question from Nalini Q&A with with Sarah J. Maas: Archangel's Sun

Nalini says:

“When I started, Angel’s Blood was meant to be a one off. It was meant to be this one book that I wrote. Completely one book. So I never wrote the secondary characters as anything but to be in that one book, and so who I thought they were then is not who they’ve become. It’s been this learning curve for me, especially with Illium and Aodhan.

When we began - when we first see them interacting - I think it’s very clear that Aodhan is the damaged one and Illium is the stronger one. As it’s gone on, I feel like particularly in this latest book and the book before it, it’s becoming more clear that Illium is actually the more vulnerable one and Aodhan is starting to find his strength. So their relationship is the definition of that Facebook status, you know: ‘it’s complicated’.

 So for me, it’s complicated as well. I’m very open to wherever they’re going to take me, but I’m very wary of predicting it at all because I have been surprised multiple times through this series. I could not have predicted that vulnerability in Illium that we’re seeing. So, I guess, my answer is that the book for either character - both characters, however it may be - will come when they’re ready, and there is a hint to what’s happening in the end of Archangel’s Sun and that is all I’m going to say. The end.”

Quick review:

Nalini has very quickly become my top author without a doubt! She never seems to miss with the world building and the fully fleshed out characters whilst also bringing in the characters I love to see from previous books. The main characters in this book, Memory and Alexei really mesh well together and brought several tears to my eyes. 

Will definitely come back to reread.

Haven't done one of these in two weeks. I've been knee-deep in promoting Moonlight, Monsters & Magic, the anthology featuring my short story, WHITE, and redrafting my first novel. This series is excellent! Despite my nearly nonexistent free time, I have managed to get through the first three books. Elena Devereaux is a mixed-raced vampire hunter hired by the Archangel of New York, Raphael. An immortal being of incalculable power, he is the ultimate Alpha male. But Elena's not having any of it and the novels are so much better because of it. The first 3 books trace a relationship that goes from powerful physicality to deep partnership, with all the negotiations and turbulence one could expect between an Archangel and his Hunter-Consort. But they reach an equilibrium that feels honest and real.The cast is diverse, the dangers real and the writing flawless. I don't always follow a series through to the end but I might actually stick to this one. 5 enthusiastic stars. While waiting for the next book in the Inkeeper Chronicles, I decided to revisit an anthology that I bought for the Kate Daniels story. • ANGELS' JUDGMENT by Nalini Singh is a short story in the Guild Hunter's series. Being completely unfamiliar with this universe, I was pleased to fine that I was immediately immersed. There was enough information presented through the amazing storytelling, that I did not feel like I was missing anything.
