Highlights from my weekend at the Middle Kingdom 50 Year Celebration

Watching home movies of Pennsic III/IV with Count Jehan (the guy who basically founded the Middle Kingdom).

Someone I don’t know giving me (to keep) his spare 2-person tent when I discovered that the one I borrowed was missing its poles.

Meeting (and hopefully befriending) some of the best bards in Midrealm, Northshield, and Calontir and hearing their songs.

Tasting some truly excellent homebrews at the tavern. Best were a lemonade cider and a raspberry ginger beer.

Teaching a class. It didn’t go as well as I’d hoped, but I’m glad I had the experience of teaching at RUM.

Tasting a period chocolate drink.

Finally figuring out how to do nalbindning. 

Buying some cool stuff and still sticking to my budget.

Learning how to use the Younger Futhark.

Taking persona classes from Cariadoc, and later having him turn up to the bardic circle. Also hearing the story of the first Pennsic directly from him.

Watching the Crown Tournament finals (which was even better for having heard “Sold His Daughter for Some Pancakes” a few nights before), and then realising I’d met the new prince at twelfth night.

The baroness of Shattered Crystal telling me she liked my necklace (the one I made from Walmart beads).

King Edmund telling everyone who plays in Midrealm to stand and then sit down when he got to the year you started. He went all the way down to 1972 with just Jehan and Moonwulf still standing (why he didn’t go all the way to 1969 I don’t know--maybe he was hungry for feast?)

The sugar tree at Sunday night feast. 

Having my baroness serving our table at feast (although tbh it was kind weird until I realised all the servers were peers).

Performing my first story at a bardic circle, and being given a token by Mistress Eliane Halevy for it.

Getting kicked out of the tavern at closing and then staying out singing until 3am. #bardlife
