Non-Surgical Alternatives To Hair Transplants
Hair loss affects millions of people worldwide, leading many to seek effective solutions to restore their hair and confidence. While hair transplants are a popular choice, not everyone is willing or able to undergo surgery. Fortunately, there are several non-surgical alternatives that can help manage and mitigate hair loss. This article explores these options, providing insights into their effectiveness, benefits, and potential drawbacks and for more information visit hair transplant Southampton.
Topical Treatments
Minoxidil Minoxidil is an over-the-counter medication available in liquid or foam form, commonly known by the brand name Rogaine. It's applied directly to the scalp and works by stimulating hair follicles, increasing blood flow, and prolonging the growth phase of hair. Minoxidil is effective for many users, particularly in the early stages of hair loss. Consistent use is crucial, as discontinuing treatment can lead to resumed hair loss.
Finasteride While Finasteride is typically taken orally, there are topical formulations available. Finasteride, known by the brand name Propecia when taken orally, reduces the production of dihydrotestosterone (DHT), a hormone linked to hair loss. Topical Finasteride is designed to minimize systemic side effects while delivering the drug directly to the scalp. Users must continue treatment to maintain results, and it’s generally more effective in men.
Laser Therapy
Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) Low-Level Laser Therapy involves using red light wavelengths to stimulate hair follicles and promote hair growth. This treatment is delivered via devices like laser combs, helmets, or caps that can be used at home. LLLT is non-invasive and painless, making it an attractive option for those seeking a non-surgical approach. Clinical studies suggest that LLLT can improve hair density and thickness, particularly when combined with other treatments like Minoxidil or Finasteride.
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy involves drawing a small amount of the patient's blood, processing it to concentrate the platelets, and injecting the plasma into the scalp. Platelets are rich in growth factors that can stimulate hair follicles and promote hair growth. PRP therapy is minimally invasive and can be performed in a clinical setting. Multiple sessions are typically required for optimal results, and it is often used in conjunction with other treatments for enhanced efficacy.
Nutritional Supplements
Biotin and Multivitamins Biotin, a B-vitamin, is often touted for its role in maintaining healthy hair, skin, and nails. While biotin deficiency can lead to hair loss, most people obtain sufficient biotin through their diet. However, biotin supplements, along with multivitamins containing vitamins A, C, D, and E, as well as minerals like zinc and iron, can support overall hair health. It's important to note that supplements are most effective when addressing specific deficiencies rather than being a standalone treatment for hair loss.
Scalp Micropigmentation
Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is a cosmetic procedure that involves tattooing tiny dots on the scalp to mimic the appearance of hair follicles. This technique creates the illusion of a fuller head of hair and is particularly effective for those with thinning hair or bald spots. SMP is non-invasive and provides immediate results, but it does not promote actual hair growth. It’s a long-lasting solution that requires touch-ups over time to maintain its appearance.
Hair Growth Shampoos and Conditioners
Many shampoos and conditioners are formulated with ingredients like ketoconazole, saw palmetto, caffeine, and biotin, which are believed to promote hair growth or reduce hair loss. These products can help improve scalp health, reduce inflammation, and create a favorable environment for hair growth. While they may not be as effective as medical treatments, they can be a supportive part of a comprehensive hair care regimen.
Lifestyle Changes
Diet and Exercise Maintaining a balanced diet rich in vitamins, minerals, and proteins is essential for healthy hair growth. Foods like eggs, nuts, seeds, leafy greens, and fish provide nutrients that support hair health. Regular exercise improves blood circulation, including to the scalp, which can help promote hair growth.
Stress Management Stress is a significant factor in hair loss, leading to conditions like telogen effluvium where hair falls out after stressful events. Practices such as yoga, meditation, and mindfulness can help manage stress levels, potentially reducing hair loss.
Conclusion
Non-surgical alternatives to hair transplants offer a variety of options for those seeking to combat hair loss without undergoing surgery. From topical treatments and laser therapy to nutritional supplements and lifestyle changes, these methods can be effective in managing hair loss and promoting hair growth. While results may vary based on individual circumstances, combining multiple treatments often yields the best outcomes. Consulting with a healthcare provider or a specialist in hair restoration can help determine the most suitable approach for your specific needs, ensuring a personalized and effective hair loss management plan.

Right now i understand its all to do with the controversy with ole in Norway and not football matters 🤔 the experience thing is nonsense plenty of ex players went straight into management and did well ! So that's not a problem the same players are doing the same things under ole that they did under jose what happened to maguire has messed him up pogba again saying he wanted to leave 🐍🤬 caused stress greenwood being a muppet and twat Ed being completely incompetent to run a club and deal with the transfer market and undermine ole in that is where the problem is! Having a policeman as your dad should let you see things from a correct view not based on other contexts
No you did not understand me at all. First and foremost my issue with Ole is that he IS NO WAY COMPETENT enough to manage a football club the stage Manchester United are on. He is clearly out of this depth but you refuse to see it or acknowledge it, simple as that. You are hanging onto Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the player, the super sub, the one who has won it in 1999, the club legend and it's clouding your judgement of him. If he wasn't either of those would you still defend his disasterclasses tooth and nails? Would you? No.
You are going on about how it's the players are to blame for everything but do you even realize we have a better squad than every prem side save for Liverpool, City and Chelsea? Do you realize? Yet we are sitting proudly at 15th (with a game in hand) and our football is utter shit and totally unwatchable. These players aren't coached properly or at all for fuck's sake!! What's not clicking about that? We have so many quality players or players with considerable potential but they aren't managed the way they should be. We have no game plan, Ole knows next to no tactics that would actually work and he can't even use his subs smartly! His lineups? Let's not talk about that either cause it's ridiculous what he is doing most of the time.
If our players are such crap then do you seriously think Leicester City, Spurs, Arsenal, Wolves, Aston Villa, Everton, Southampton, Leeds, Crystal Palace, Newcastle and West Ham United have a better squad than us??? No, they are just managed way better, all of them, at the moment. We on the other hand are clueless as hell and so is your hero Solskjaer.. he is counting on a spark of genius from Rashford, Martial or Greenwood to win games for us but that's it. Heaven forbid we concede cause sure as fuck we can't come back from that, he doesn't know how to achieve that. Like how we defended that 2-1 yesterday.. pathetically. So yes, lack of experience is proving to be a HUGE fucking issue and it's laughable that you think it's not. In this moment of time Ole does NOT have what it takes to be Manchester United's permanent manager and appointing him on such basis was a mistake. Oh yes he went straight into management and had fantastic success with Molde in the Elitserien and of course I did not forget that he got promoted with Cardiff City.. then relegated them right away and almost sent them to the third tier... Anyway, like I said he has great achievements in the Norwegian league but with all due respect to Molde and the Elitserien that absolutely cannot be compared to the United job which is an entirely different stage. You refuse to see it cause you can't view him objectively. If he wasn't Ole Gunnar Solskjaer United legend but simply Ole Solskjaer from Kristiansund you would not overlook his shortcomings and fuckups like the way you do.
As for Woodward we ALL know he should have nothing to do with the football part and the transfers but you straight up act like Ole is somehow getting a worse treatment than the previous managers..which IS NOT TRUE. Moyes didn't last one season ffs, he was sacked with 4 games to go which was a bit disgraceful on our part tbh. He was bad but he didn't deserve that in my humble opinion. LvG got more time sure but not much more support when it came to transfers and especially the players he asked for. He managed to win an FA cup though as a parting gift. And José.. he didn't get nowhere near that backing that he needed to succeed and at the same time his ego alone was bigger than the whole club itself and created a very toxic environment in the end. He wasn't it for us either but it wasn't because of his competence. So Ole isn't some special snowflake who has it worst.. all of our managers got the short end of the stick from Woodward and the board and they had to deal with that. Solskjaer can't even put together a decent lineup or manage that squad he has at hand.. what does it say about him? He didn't get the players he asked for but if he can't even coach those he has then it's pointless to complain about that.
Controversy in Norway??? Please you did not just say that to me. Controversy? Your hero supported and played and coddled and captained a player who raped at least 5 women. He decided to just turn a blind eye to that, to excuse that because football and his personal success was more important to him than exposing and excluding Babacar Sarr from his team!!! What context or perspective am I supposed to see this from??? You are one of the very few people on here who know what was done to me and you are still implying I should just excuse that? Solskjaer supporting a rapist? I can't and I won't. You better accept he is very much morally questionable and is no way a saint and I don't fucking care that "he has won it".

The process behind my new film idea
In my proposal essay I acknowledged a new appreciation of cinema and an awareness of the voyeuristic eye. When researching Laura Mulvey’s film, Riddle of The Sphinx (1977), I found that Mulvey brought woman’s true perspective to light. She fought against the overshadowed female figure. I want to carry on this subject in correlation towards my mask idea, which has evolved to the feminine masquerade. Furthermore, in my dissertation a grotesque character inspires both empathy and disgust; the mask of femininity can also be understood in this way. In our patriarchal society women have conformed to wearing masks: they are expected to obey the social standards and ideals of beauty that have been imposed by male desires as opposed to female. By understanding the social pressures and standards of stereotypical beauty, I feel compassionate towards this false representation: it binds women to men, imprisons them behind a mask and is put on for the male gaze. As a woman, observing the screen from this voyeuristic perspective, I undeniably also feel the pressure to live up to this representation. Writing and researching about this in my essay has developed my film idea hugely and I now have successfully come up with final idea:
My film is about an untidy girl (Caitlin actress) who looks through magazines, cutting up faces of models and sticking them on her bedroom wall, showing her obsession and concentration on the models expression and poses. Then will show her weird obsession with the mirror, watching her mimic these faces we see in (advertisement) magazines and on screen. But like most girls we do tend to stare at ourselves in the mirror and any reflection we can find, practicing our face for the world, of man’s desire. Then will show her in shops, walking through the big isles of makeup, to capture the ridiculous amounts of products we are told to use for man’s desire. Second part: creepy transition of Caitlin getting a makeover in a horror like sinario, she will get all the classic treatment, waxing legs, face masks and makeup. Then the finishing product will show Caitlin with a gross, grotesquely looking mask and the metaphor for the feminine masquerade. I plan to make this mask out of papier-mâché and paint gloomy scary colours.
Plan for film (notes)
(consumer) (watching the screen from the voyeuristic eye/perspective).
- Caitlin watching tele
- Reading magazines
- adverts (bus stops) ?
- Southampton billboards (on route from Hampshire and London)
- London billboards
- close up of eye (tv screen close ups) of adverts face and eyes. The close up of Caitlin face, lips etc.
- Caitlin cutting out girls from magazines and sticking them all over her bedroom wall.
youtube
“ways of seeing” John Berger. - research.
- Show caitlin in church - around image has meaning “everything around it confirms and consolidate” its meaning... then show Caitlin watching tele. (icon - Mary and Jesus).
Can I use quotes from John Berger’s ways of seeing? To help direct the narrative and flow of the film.
“reproduction distort” - talking about paintings but this can be referred to the reproduction of women. (now men have evolved women).
“feel this authenticity” when seeing the painting in person (the original) - I could visit it this at the church.
- Caitlin looking into the mirror - men looking through the window watching her. or holding mirror. (rolls in hair, makeup)
- Caitlin mimicking pictures and paintings?
- Caitlin looking in mirror/ glancing in shadows (paranoid moment)
- TV/ adverts (beauty pageants, girls smiling).
Naked is to be oneself:
“nude seen as an object”
“spectators looking which shave them”
“naked as you seen them”
Mimic Caitlin from paintings, her looking in mirror and men looking at her. She’s looking in the mirror to see how men look at her. She’s being looked at as an object.
- behind shot of Caitlin in nude.
“calculated charm” expression - women’s face when passing, she knows men are looking at her.
“hair is associated with sexual passion”.
“paintings don’t mean human beings to me”
“admire them as paintings”
photographs/screens “compare myself. I’ve been encouraged to think of myself in this way.” wouldn’t think about this with Renaissance oil paintings.
Empathy - pressure for women.
Men are dressed and women are naked. “women are humiliated”
“we are always dressing for a part” “putting on a uniform in one kind of another”
film name suggestion: putting on my uniform
“women are always dressing as characters”
Women is derived directly from mans desire.
women is derived directly from a mans desire.
women is in passive situation.
self delight - matters - relationship - gain relationship with.
Relationships are so important men and women.
essence of self-delight. compulsion with the world.
me: she’s not naked, she’s nude
“I’m not naked i’m nude, if i’m not beautiful i do something about it.” (Mirror shot idea)
Furthermore into plan (more of an idea into what my film will look like).
untidy/ undressed/messy /catching yourself in the reflection in shop windows and cars.
- church - silence in church looking at oil paintings. There is a local church I can use for filming. The same church I used in the my identity project. I am close family friends with the local priest in the country who can let us in during this pandemic.
- adverts magazines, TV etc.
- reflections (getting paranoid) (lymington town window shops)
- Mirror at home - showing a weird relationship Caitlin has with the mirror. Mimicking faces.
- cut outs/ magazines
- Makeover ( the grotesque transformation scene ), turning into the grotesque.
...
scenes of caitlin thinking lying down?
...
Location for grotesque scene. The Old Dairy building. A white marble interior oval building. An amazing little building/ room. great place for a creepy, grotesque scene. Men can look from the window and watch caitlin (referring back to John Berger’s “men look at women”. This building is also really good to use for my wide angle anamorphic lens.
Old Dairy: turn into a beauty salon/ becoming the grotesque version of yourself/ desire of women/ grotesque character.
- spinning chair effect (office chair). Have Caitlin spinning in the middle of the marble room surrounded by mirrors to show the mirror obsession stage. The relationship with the mirror and her weird relationship she has with them. To show Caitlin in this weird set up will convey on the idea.
- men watching Caitlin through the windows of the Old Dairy/ beaitician scene.
- Caitlin naked/ nude, looking at herself.
- Many poses of herself trying to imagine how she would look for men.
DISGUST ( grotesque definition ) and meaning:
Caitlin changing into grotesque: women changes herself for men. Bit ideally this is mans doing, with this idea men will walk in to the Old Dairy, lay Caitlin down on a creepy white cotton hospital type bed. These men will be dressed up as doctors / beauticians.
Props needed: Buy and borrow list
Long table, white bed sheet, covid masks, towel, face masks, covid protection screens, teeth dentist equipment, tools, comb, hair brush, tanning equipment, laser, hair treatment, waxing strips for hands and legs/ wax for legs/ hospital gowns/ nail polish/ other nails equipment.
Here is my call sheet for my filming days and scenes. These were the papers I took round with me when filming and buying props:

Reviewing the best (and worst) of this season’s European soccer jerseys
Let’s take a look at the fashion statements made across the top four soccer leagues in the world
One of the most unique aspects of soccer is that a team gets to make a new image of itself when they release new jerseys or “kits” each season. In recognition of that, we have decided to give our honest and subjective opinions on the best and worst that the top European leagues have to offer this year.
We looked at the kits of all the teams in England’s Premier League, Spain’s La Liga, Italy’s Serie A, and Germany’s Bundesliga and selected five of the best and worst they will take the field in this year. The categories for judgement are:
Best Overall Team Kit: The team we felt had the best combination of home, away, and third kits
Worst Overall Team Kit: The team we felt could have brought their home, away, and third kits back to the drawing board
Most Boring Overall Team Kit: The team that needed more inspiration when creating their home, away and third kits
Best Individual Kit: We chose the one kit that was the most strikingly beautiful, amazing, and awesome throughout the entire league
Worst Individual Kit: After looking at all of the kits, these were the ones we think will be finding the clearance rack soon
We also decided to prevent teams from being placed in similar categories. For example, if a team was selected as the Worst Overall Kit, they could not be represented in the Worst Individual Kit. The same goest for Best Overall and Best Individual. However, as we will see later in this list, we allowed for a team to be selected for the Best and Worst Individual Kits if we felt they were merited.
Before we begin, all photos were taken from footyheadlines.com, one of the best websites for soccer jersey leaks and releases.
With that, we start our list in England.
English Premier League
This was apparently the year that Premier League kit makers decided to be experimental. Some kits worked well, others crashed and burned in glorious fashion.
Best Overall Team Kit: Everton
These kits are clean, bold, and inoffensive. The home kit is traditional with great subtle design details. The away kit features an amazing shade of yellow. The third kit is a shade of mint that we don’t love, but unlike a certain German team’s mint kit, the accents are subtle. A great result for Everton here from Hummel.
Honorable Mentions: Southampton, Manchester City, Arsenal
Worst Overall Team Kit: West Bromwich Albion
The home kit isn’t bad at all. In fact, the bar code stripes have been worn by West Brom before with good results. The problem really lies in the away and third kits. Not only does the same pattern in the home kit continue to the other two, but the colors are terrible. The away kit directly rips off a fellow English team in Norwich City and the third kit causes me such intense headaches that I can’t look at it for too long. Why Puma?
Honorable Mentions: Chelsea, Manchester United, Newcastle United
Most Boring Team Kit: Fulham
Simply put, all three of these kits look like they were Adidas templates you would use when you’re making jerseys for your rec league team. Add on the fact that the third kit was their same last year and these kits look like the epitome of laziness.
Honorable Mentions: Leicester City, Crystal Palace, West Ham United
Best Individual Kit: Manchester City away
via Footy Headlines
This thing is beautiful. Shades of blue in the gothic cathedral design on the shirt play nicely with the black base of the shirt. The bronze accents and bronze monochrome badge really make this kit the beauty that it is. Man City went in three bold directions with all of their kits, but this one totally payed off. Maybe the best Puma kit for the year.
Honorable Mentions: Southampton third, Leeds United away
Worst Individual Kit: Manchester United third
via Footy Headlines
Do I really need to explain this one? The same design is on the shorts too. Yikes Adidas.
Honorable Mentions: Chelsea third, Liverpool third, Newcastle third
La Liga
The top flight of Spain brought a lot to the table with many impressive kits. Some stood out like a sore thumb, but most of these were fantastic.
Best Overall Team Kit: SD Huesca
A quality kit collection should be balanced, clean and varied. Huesca nailed all three with their range for the 20/21 La Liga season. Choosing a soft color for the cross in the home kit allows it to complement, not contrast with, the deep yet sparkling blue. The away is simple and all white, but it’s cohesive and has an understated topographical design element giving it dimension. The third is quite simply a green and gold accented stunner. The zig-zag design element makes it look flowing and royal. You either play a sport as beautiful as football in it, or you clap twice to have peasants carry you on a golden pillow to a goblet filled with peeled grapes. No in between. I’m shocked Kelme produced our winners, but they deserve it.
Honorable Mentions: Deportivo Alaves, Eibar, Valencia
Worst Overall Team Kit: Real Madrid
This requires some defense as Real is one of the biggest clubs in the world. The home and away kits suffer from the same problems. They both just look like white and pink t-shirts with as minimal design as possible. A lack of design on the shoulders and sleeves hurt this kit. On top of those two, the third kit features a design that doesn’t make sense for Real Madrid and failed to impress the two of us. Better luck next year, adidas.
Honorable Mentions: Celta Vigo, Sevilla
Most Boring Overall Kit: Getafe
It’s the same shirt, three times, in three basic and flat colors: blue, red and white. As a consummate procrastinator, I know ‘Whew, at least I made the deadline’ when I see it. Do better Joma.
Honorable Mentions: Celta Vigo, Osasuna
Best Individual Kit: Cadiz away
via Footy Headlines
Full disclosure: I would place Huesca’s third kit here but we are trying to be fair. Having admitted that, Adidas’ design on Cadiz’s away shirt is not far beneath Huesca’s third shirt. It’s not as opulent, but it would still feel good to pull on ahead of a match. It has a wonderful use of an accent color, which is a vivid and perfect shade of yellow that contrasts well with its blues. I typically dislike plain gradients (see: Chelsea’s third shirt), but the upward stripes are actually design elements that merge to create a gradient effect. Up close they are unique and interesting, and that continues to the crest, which is outlined in yellow and filled-in with a pearlescence that shifts from blue to a soft pink or almost purple depending on the angle and available light.
Honorable Mentions: Barcelona away, Eibar away, Valencia away
Worst Individual Kit: Granada third

This is just ugly fam. It doesn’t deserve the classical collar it has, the glowing aquamarine is framed by flat yellow sleeves, the sponsor is a big red ‘W’ and the crest and Nike logo are blacked out. It’s a confusing mess of a shirt and I hate it, so I’m going to show mercy and stop typing so that you can scroll down.
Honorable Mentions: Barcelona third, Villareal third
Serie A
A league in a country that is well known for its fashion produced some amazing kits. Unlike the other leagues, only two teams were in the running for worst overall team kit. But, the loser is a big one.
Best Overall Team Kit: Genoa
Genoa’s kits this season are as good as Genoa kits get. They have a set style and Kappa didn’t deviate, but this year I think they hit the pinnacle of what they’re capable of. The home is perfectly balanced and has understated design elements to give it depth. The away is just as balanced and looks especially clean on an all white backdrop. The third is the beauty of the bunch. I love how the logo and crest treatments make them a cohesive part of the shirt, and the subtle red in the collar accents the red piping down the sides. The prominent design on the shirt is balanced by deep colors, giving it depth and making it interesting even though it’s simple.
Honorable Mentions: AC Milan, Atalanta, Fiorentina
Worst Overall Team Kit: Juventus
I don’t know what Juventus is doing with any of these. There’s no cohesion in any of them and two of them look like they were designed by children at the height of a sugar rush. WHAT IF THE STRIPES WERE LIKE TIRE MARKS INSTEAD OF STRIPES JUST LIKE SKKKKKRRRRRR! WHAT IF IT WAS LIKE ORANGE CAMO BUT NOT REALLY ORANGE CAMO BUT LIKE IT LIKE JUST BSH YA BRRRSHHHHS ALL OVER! Go to your room, Adidas.
Honorable Mention: Sampdoria
Most Boring Team Kit: Spezia
The benefit of looking at these shirts is that they will make you infinitely interested in something else just to make sure you don’t accidentally slip into a coma. ONLY MALE PLATYPUSES ARE VENOMOUS — whew, thought we almost lost you there.
Honorable Mentions: Hellas Verona, Torino
Best Individual Kit: Roma away
via Footy Headlines
I feel things looking at this shirt. The primary thing is an appreciation for life and the possibility that it could be beautiful. This shirt is a reminder, or more accurately a refresher. It can exist, it can be endlessly beautiful, and that must mean that not everything is terrible. The cream with deep burgundy accents, the throwback wolf crest, the retro styling; it is a perfect shirt and Nike’s best of the year.
Honorable Mentions: Atalanta away, Inter Milan third, Genoa third
Worst Individual Kit: Roma third
via Footy Headlines
Nike, continuing their quest to be the most confusing kit manufacturer, made two stunning shirts (one an immediate classic) and then decided that they would build the third shirt using construction paper. It makes no sense, it’s overly complicated, poorly designed, and has what looks like asphalt pouring from the armpits. I almost respect Nike’s commitment to ensuring that their expectations are never set too high. Every now and then you gotta fart at the dinner table just so everyone is reminded that you do not, in fact, have your life together. Correct, this shirt is a fart.
Honorable Mentions: Inter Milan away, Napoli home, Sampdoria goalkeeper
Bundesliga
One of us writes for a Bundesliga team blog. So, when we say we were underwhelmed by the offerings from the German top flight, we really mean it.
Best Overall Team Kit: 1. FC Union Berlin
There weren’t many dazzling kits this year in the Bundesliga, but this one stood out for all the right reasons. The collar and sleeve stripes on the home kit are perfect. The lines on the away kit are a great color of blue. The third kit uses that same shade of blue plus some awesome design elements that help Adidas knock these kits out of the park.
Honorable Mentions: 1. FSV Mainz, Armenia Bielefeld, Borussia Mönchengladbach
Worst Overall Team Kit: RB Leipzig
We both realize what Nike was trying to do when they announced the third kits of a bunch of teams (see Juventus, Roma, PSG, Spurs, Chelsea) would take inspiration from old Nike Air Max shoes to show the connection between streetwear and football culture. The design they used on the third kit for RB Leipzig should have stayed on a pair of shoes. It is ugly to look at and I almost feel like there’s an optical illusion I should be finding. The away kit has two (2) different shades of yellow with the club crest and Nike logo being darker than the bulls on the front of the shirt. A boring, uninspired home kit wraps up this nightmare.
Honorable Mentions: SC Freiburg, Bayern Munich
Most Boring Team Kit: FC Augsburg
*snoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooore* Huh? Did something happen?
Alright, I know that Augsburg’s traditional kit structure is white home kit, green away kit, red third kit. But did they have to be so boring about it? Three radically different collar designs don’t help these shirts and Augsburg should think long and hard about what they’ve done.
Honorable Mentions: Bayer Leverkusen, VfL Wolfsburg
Best Individual Kit: VfB Stuttgart away
via Footy Headlines
Jako kits don’t often get a lot of love outside of Germany. But gaaaaawd these are sick. The monochrome badge plays really well with the intricate design of the map of the city of Stuttgart on the kit. They also apparently aligned the map in a way so that the middle of the stadium was under the crest. Lots of points for creativity and a fun look.
Honorable Mentions: Borussia Dortmund home
Worst Individual Kit: 1. FC Köln third kit
via Footy Headlines
To the average fan, this is a garish kit. However, for Köln fans, it’s a throwback to a classic shirt known as the “canary kit”.
However, unlike the effort from Puma in the 90s, this uhlsport kit has un-subtle and blocky stripes that truly ruin any good things coming for it. This reminds me more of something I’d be wearing on the 20th of April rather than what I’d wear to a football match.
Honorable Mentions: Bayern Munich third, VfL Wolfsburg third, RB Leipzig third
So these are our rankings. This is the way.

The 10 best Premier League players outside the ‘big six’
With a new campaign about to start, most eyes fall on the & # 39; big six & # 39; clubs and their talent-laden squadrons.
Outside of this bubble, however, the abundance of gems are waiting to press their authority on the Premier League and achieve great things this season.
Sportsmail takes a look at the best Premier League stars in the rest of the division, who can shake up the elite.
Artistic Portuguese international Ruben Neves will enter Europe with Wolves this year
Wilfried Zaha (Crystal Palace)
The obvious choice and the main candidate for many fans as the best player outside the top six.
The Mercurial Crystal Palace may not be much longer outside the nose of the Premier League side after requesting a move, but after the Arsenal connections have blurred, Zaha remains an eagle … for now . However, if he leaves, Everton seems to be his most likely destination.
Now, perhaps eager to impress more than ever before, the 2019-2020 campaign could be the largest Ivory Coast international to date.
Season after season, Wilfried Zaha has shown himself as one of the best in the top flight
Youri Tielemans (Leicester)
After his breakthrough in English football, Leicester was wise enough to secure his loan from the powerful Belgian midfielder. and convert it into a permanent £ 40 million deal.
Manchester United prowled about a possible deal, but Leicester got the switch completed and will build it right around this versatile star.
After capturing a permanent movement from Monaco will show Youri Tielemans what he can do
Declan Rice (West Ham)
Previous campaign saw everything click into place for Rice, who for themselves role of defensive midfield anchor in West Ham.
After declaring his international loyalty, Rice was immediately picked up by Gareth Southgate and integrated into the higher ranks of England.
Another year of promise beckons for the 20-year-old rice, which will undoubtedly attract the attention of Europe & # 39; s elite if it continues to patrol the same level in the midfield of balance and power.
Last season was huge for Declan Rice, who nailed to a senior position in West Ham in style
Ruben Neves (Wolves)
Was it all a hyperbole around the early gifted Neves?
The international Portugal answered these questions immediately and was both calming and artfully present in the midfield of Molineux and on the side of Nuno Espirito Santo.
In a repeated performance, especially on the Europa League stage, the next summer Neves could see it as a giant purchase.
David Brooks (Bournemouth)
The Welshman was unhappy last season that the injuries began to nibble, but the time he spent on the field was a joy to see.
Playing with self-confidence and maturity beyond his years, Brooks influential performance for Bournemouth immediately showed him the Premier League level.
Links to both Manchester clubs popped up, but the cherries managed to keep their jewel. Another top campaign led by meticulous Eddie Howe should work wonders for his progress.
David Brooks could be one of the biggest emerging stars if he is able to remain injury free
Abdoulaye Doucoure (Watford)
The Frenchman was a relatively unsung hero last season, as he showed the metfordome of the Watford midfield and his impressive impressed athletic skills.
Doucoure, on his day, has a nice contrasting mix of aggression and subtlety, along with a graceful style on the ball that almost looks chilly with its gangly frame.
No fewer links to top teams, the name of Doucoure is heavily mentioned during the transfer window, but he stayed on Vicarage Road. Watford, if they have ambitions to get bigger and better this season, it must keep it that way.
Adoulaye Doucoure is a calming presence in the watford midfield and keeps ticking things
Ben Chilwell (Leicester)
Another Leicester star who made huge strides last season, Chilwell appears to have become a regular England and to hold one of the full-back positions lay like his.
His aggressive forward game is compensated by a good understanding of the game, along with a high degree of defensive competition that seems to be growing all the time.
Chilwell was labeled a hugely important piece in the puzzle by manager Brendan Rodgers when he arrived from Celtic, a The Northern Irish is fully intending to cultivate the 22-year-old under his leadership into the real deal .
Ben Chilwell has improved the season and is now firmly in the English pleat
Jack Grealish (Aston Villa)
Jack Grealish, newly promoted with his boy club Aston Villa, needs no introduction.
The hard-working playmaker, 23, was comfortably the best player in the championship last season, and took on the captain's bracelet with passion and dignity. Grealish said it was a & # 39; dream come true & # 39 ;, and he certainly meant it.
Grealish has a huge job for him this season to help Villa regain his status as part of the English top layer. Gareth Southgate will be watching him closely in the coming months.
After helping his boyhood club regained top-flight status, many eyes will be on Jack Grealish
Richarlison (Everton)
Questions were asked when Marco Silva paid a lot of money to Richarlison for Goodison and linking back to the Brazilian from their Watford spell. However, those questions were quickly put aside.
Richarlison offers the Toffees a dynamic in the last third that is missing for a season and has many strings to its bow.
The one moment he can come across as a passionate street fighter, the next nimble maker who radiates flair in abundance. It is exactly the kind of mix that is desired in a Premier League attacker, especially someone who comes, can handle the hardships of the division.
Now an established position in the national team of Brazil, playing together with Neymar and Philippe Coutinho, the Richarlison trajectory is likely to continue to skyrocket.
Richarlison offers Everton a dynamic at the front that was missing many seasons
Callum Wilson (Bournemouth)
It was no coincidence that Chelsea England International Wilson was the first candidate to fill the void left by Alvaro Morata, only to be scanned by a transfer ban.
The 27-year-old is arguably one of the best finishers in the division, with movement and working speed that match.
Wilson is the key to Bournemouth's ambitions this year, who want to improve their 14th placed finish last season.
Whether Wilson can spend as little time as possible outside the treatment room is the central problem.
[1945908] England's international Callum Wilson is the key to Bournemouth's ambitions this season

Should You Add Retinoids to Your Skincare Regimen?
Retinoids have created quite a buzz in the skincare industry in recent years. While they aren’t new, their popularity has grown exponentially recently the benefits as both an acne and wrinkle treatment have been widely touted. Would retinoids enhance your current skincare regimen?
Dr. Elliot Weiss of the Laser & Skin Surgery Center of New York and head of our Southampton office recently shared his expertise on retinoids. He explains what they do, who should use them, and how they should be used. This information can help you determine whether retinoids should become a regular part of your skincare program.
What are retinoids?
Retinoids are derivatives of vitamin A. There is a wide range of retinoids available, ranging from low concentrations you can find over the counter to higher concentrations that are only available by prescription. All retinoids work in a similar fashion, but higher concentrations tend to work faster and produce more dramatic improvement in the skin.
What are retinoid’s main functions?
Topical retinoids offer numerous benefits to the skin. These molecules help to regulate the growth and differentiation of healthy skin cells. With repeated use, many functions of retinoids become visually apparent. In an interview with CNN Underscored, Dr. Weiss explained that retinoids are used to:
Boost collagen production in the skin
Reduce areas of excess pigmentation
Smooth out areas of skin roughness
Decrease markers for photo damage in the skin
Reduce inflammation around the follicle
When these functions occur, damage to the skin can be reversed. This includes damage due to acne or the aging process. The result is skin that is firmer with fewer wrinkles, more evenly pigmented, smoother, and with less acne.
Can anyone use a retinoid, or are there people who just can’t tolerate it?
While there are many great benefits to gain from retinol, there are also side effects that can be problematic for some users. The issues most associated with topical retinoids are redness, flaking, stinging and dryness. Some patients who have particularly sensitive skin may not be able to tolerate using any of these formulations.
Even if a patient experiences some of the side effects in the beginning, with proper use their skin may be able to adjust to the program. With retinoids, unlike other topical creams, more is not better. Retinoids should be started at the lowest concentration and at the lowest interval. Over the course of weeks, these products can be slowly applied more often and/or at higher concentrations if side effects do not occur. Many patients who are “intolerant” of retinoids have simply not allowed their skin to properly acclimate.
Can you describe what the average acclimation period entails?
The acclimation period can vary from person to person. It usually takes 1-2 months to fully acclimate, depending on the person. The process begins by applying a low concentration to the face once, or maybe twice, weekly. This schedule is continued for a couple of weeks.
If no excessive irritation occurs during that initial time frame, the frequency of application can be increased from 1-2 times a week to 2-3 times per week. If this routine is also completed without excessive irritation, the frequency can be increased further.
This process continues until either the patient is using it daily without problems or reaches a frequency of application that is tolerable. Slight pink color and dryness is common and not a significant concern during the acclimation process. However, more significant irritation, dryness, or stinging should be a signal to take a break or decrease frequency.
How should one be using a retinoid in their routine?
The frequency of retinoid use depends on the condition and needs of the skin. However, most of us could use a collagen boost. We can also benefit from a more even skin tone and a smoother appearance to the skin. Dr. Weiss believes that finding a retinoid that can be tolerated at least two, maybe three times a week is beneficial for most patients.
A retinoid should be applied at night and washed off in the morning. Dr. Weiss usually instructs patients to avoid moisturizing after applying a retinoid because it can spread the product onto sensitive areas that patients should avoid, like the eyelids. If needed, patients can apply a small amount of moisturizer to their face and then apply the retinoid to prevent irritation of more sensitive skin.
Should people be using specific retinoids for acne and others for aging?
Most retinoids have similar effects in the long term regarding aging or acne. For acne specifically, there are over the counter retinoids, such as adapalene, that are less irritating and more suited for acne or sensitive skin. Formulations that have more emollients will tend to be more tolerable for dry skin. For someone who is acne prone and has oily skin, some decreased oil production due to the retinoid can be beneficial.
Are there any preferred retinol or retinoid products?
Dr. Weiss uses many of the prescription tretinoin at varying concentrations, depending on the specific needs of each of his patients. His favorite over-the-counter option is the Alastin retinol products. These come in different concentrations and have formulations that tend to be less irritating.

Chicken Meat Linked to Drug-Resistant UTI Epidemic Dr. Mercola By Dr. Mercola In the 2013 report “Antibiotic Resistance Threats in the United States” issued by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 18 superbugs were identified as “urgent, serious and concerning threats” to humankind.1 The majority of these dangerous bacteria are in the gram-negative category, as they are equipped with body armor that makes them particularly resistant to the immune response. Most disturbing of all, an increasing number of bacteria are now exhibiting “panresistance,” 2 which means they’re resistant to every antibiotic in existence. The emergence of E. coli carrying the drug-resistant mcr-1 gene is also major cause for worry. While this bacterium is most commonly thought of in terms of food poisoning, a form of E. coli known as ExPEC (which stands for extra-intestinal pathogenic E. coli) is responsible for over 90 percent of urinary tract infections (UTIs).3 Beware — 10 Percent of UTIs Are Drug-Resistant Interestingly, while conventional wisdom has maintained that UTIs are primarily caused by sexual contact with an infected individual and/or the transferring of fecal bacteria from your anus to your urethra, research has linked drug-resistant UTIs to contaminated chicken meat.4 This is not a surprise once you realize that over 80 percent of the antibiotics used in the U.S. are given to animals raised in concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs) and it’s rare for commercial chickens to not be raised in a CAFO environment. Scientists have indeed warned that infectious disease could potentially spread through the food supply, and when it comes to UTIs, DNA matching overwhelmingly supports this hypothesis. In other words, many UTIs are caused by zoonosis, meaning animal to human disease transfer.5,6,7 Of the 8 million UTIs occurring in the U.S. each year, an estimated 10 percent — some 800,000 — are resistant to antibiotics. Drug resistance has become common enough that doctors are now advised to test for drug resistance before prescribing an antibiotic for a UTI. Drug Resistant Bacteria Can Turn Urinary Tract Infections Deadly The mcr-1 gene was discovered in pigs and people in China in 2015.8,9,10 It’s a mutated gene that confers rapid resistance to the drug colistin — an antibiotic of last resort due to its potency and nasty side effects. Its DNA also contains seven other genes that confer resistance against other antibiotics. Researchers have warned that the features of mcr-1 “suggest the progression from extensive drug resistance to pan drug resistance11 [i.e., bacteria resistant to all treatment] is inevitable,” and this threat is a global one.12 Indeed, in less than one year, mcr-1-carrying E.coli was identified in several parts of the world, including a U.S. slaughterhouse pork sample and an American patient admitted with an E. coli infection.13,14,15 Writing for National Geographic, Maryn McKenna reported:16 “The woman who was carrying an E. coli containing resistance to the last-resort antibiotic colistin went for medical care because she had what felt like a routine urinary tract infection, a UTI for short … A small, dedicated corps of researchers has been trying for years to emphasize that these infections represent a serious danger, an unexamined conduit of bacterial resistance from agriculture and meat into the human population, and have mostly been dismissed … Colistin was seldom used in people until recently because it is toxic, but agriculture has been using it enthusiastically for decades, which has seeded resistance through the bacterial world. And those highly drug-resistant bacteria are turning up in urinary-tract infections. Why UTIs? Because E. coli bacteria are carried in feces, which can easily spread to the urethra and cause urinary-tract infections, especially in women … [W]hen UTIs go untreated — which is effectively what happens when the antibiotic administered for them doesn’t work — they climb up the urinary system from the bladder, into the kidneys, and thence into the bloodstream. At that point, the minor problem becomes literally life-threatening.” DNA Matching Proves UTI Superbug Can Spread Via Contaminated Chicken Meat As mentioned, a number of mcr-1-related infections in humans have been linked to consumption of contaminated meat. For example, the gene was detected in the blood of a Danish patient in late 2015, and mcr-1 was also found in five poultry samples purchased in Denmark that were imported from Germany between 2012 and 2014.17 Again, part of the problem goes back to the fact that antibiotics — including colistin, in the case of Chinese poultry production — have remained widely used in agriculture for growth promotion purposes, allowing resistance to develop. This despite the fact that agricultural use of antibiotics has been suspected of causing human infections since at least 2001. As early as 2005 papers were published showing drug-resistant E. coli strains from supermarket meat matched strains found in human E. coli infections.18 As reported by The Atlantic in 2012:19 “[T]he origin of these newly resistant E. coli has been a mystery — except to a small group of researchers in several countries. They contend there is persuasive evidence that the bacteria are coming from poultry. More precisely, coming from poultry raised with the routine use of antibiotics … Their research20,21,22 in the United States, Canada, and Europe … has found close genetic matches between resistant E. coli collected from human patients and resistant strains found on chicken or turkey sold in supermarkets or collected from birds being slaughtered. The researchers contend that poultry … is the bridge that allows resistant bacteria to move to humans, taking up residence in the body and sparking infections when conditions are right. Touching raw meat that contains the resistant bacteria, or coming into environmental contact with it — say, by eating lettuce that was cross-contaminated — are easy ways to become infected.” Flies and Contaminated Manure May Also Spread Drug Resistant Gene Aside from consumption of contaminated meat, flies have also been identified as a carrier of the mcr-1 gene. According to PBS:23 “Flies at poultry farms in China were loaded with bacteria containing genes for antibiotic resistance, the team discovered. The same team also found E. coli containing mcr-1, a gene that imparts resistance to colistin, an antibiotic of last resort, in 1 percent of hospital patients in two of China’s large cities, neither of which have a history of using colistin to treat humans. They also discovered in the hospitals genes that offer resistance to carbapenems, another class of last-resort antibiotics. Researchers think the flies carried the bacteria from farms to cities, where they transmitted the bacteria to humans. Carriers like these flies could be more commonplace, suggesting the need for experts to keep a watchful eye on superbugs’ paths.” For over a decade we’ve also known antibiotic-resistant bacteria are present in agricultural soils, typically deposited there via contaminated manure and/or so-called biosolids (toxic sewage waste),24 and this is yet another route into the food system. Sadly, even organic gardeners may inadvertently contaminate their home garden by applying potting soil with biosolids. Researchers at the University of Southampton are trying to understand the situation better by studying “how antimicrobial resistance is introduced into natural soil bacteria, for example from manures applied by farmers or exposure to domesticated or wild animal and bird fecal droppings, and how this transfer takes place in different soil types.”25 To Protect Your Health, Avoid Antibiotics — Both in Medicine and Food — and Practice Safe Hygiene The use of low-dose antibiotics allows meat producers to add weight on animals for less money because they make feed absorption more efficient. The drugs also help prevent disease outbreaks in the crowded and unsanitary housing conditions that concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs) are notorious for. But just how high a price are we willing to pay for cheaper meat? Tens of thousands of Americans now die each year from drug-resistant infections, many of which clearly appear to be spread through our food supply. Some chicken producers have started reining in or eliminating medically unnecessary antibiotics in their production, but not all. Sanderson Farms for example, which is the third-largest poultry producer in the U.S., has refused to even acknowledge the risks associated with the practice. They are a reprehensible company; they market themselves as “all natural” even though they load up their chickens with antibiotics. And, while experts have urged the food industry to cease use of antibiotics, data from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) suggests agricultural use is actually increasing rather than decreasing. According to the FDA’s 2014 Summary Report on Antimicrobials Sold or Distributed for Use in Food-Producing Animals,26 domestic sales and distribution of cephalosporins for food-producing animals rose by 57 percent between 2009 through 2014. So, what can you do to protect yourself? Three key steps are to: Avoid antibiotics unless absolutely necessary, and remember antibiotics do NOT work for viral infections Avoid all meats raised with antibiotics. Your best bet is organic grass fed and grass-finished beef and organic pastured poultry raised without antibiotics. This is a serious issue, so if you chose to eat meat, make sure it’s antibiotic-free Practice good personal hygiene. This includes carefully washing your hands before and after you handle raw chicken, making sure to wash between your fingers and under your nails, and be sure to wash any utensils and kitchen counters when done. Ideally, use separate cutting boards for meats and vegetables to avoid cross-contamination How to Treat UTIs Without Antibiotics You've probably heard that drinking cranberry juice can be helpful in supporting a healthy urinary tract and can help flush out a UTI. However, most cranberry juice is also loaded with fructose, which tends to promote health problems when consumed in high amounts. For this reason, I don’t recommend drinking cranberry juice when you have an infection. Since your immune system is already taxed, adding fructose into the mix is inadvisable. A far better alternative is pure D-mannose, which is the active ingredient in cranberry juice responsible for its benefit to your urinary system. It can also be derived from berries, peaches, apples and other plants. Pure D-mannose is 10 to 50 times stronger than cranberry and has been shown to cure over 90 percent of UTIs within one to two days. It’s nontoxic and completely safe, with no adverse effects. I also recommend trying D-mannose before you resort to antibiotics, to avoid killing off beneficial bacteria. Digestive problems and secondary yeast infections are common side effects of antibiotics. D-mannose doesn't actually kill bacteria — it just renders them unable to stay in your urinary tract. The cell walls of E. coli are covered with tiny fingerlike projections called fimbria, made of a glycoprotein called lectin that makes them sticky. This allows them to cling to the inner walls of your bladder and even work their way upward to your ureter and kidneys. The lectin on the bacteria's fimbria binds to mannose, which naturally covers the internal lining of your urinary organs. This is why they’re so difficult to flush out. When you take D-mannose, the E. coli suddenly find mannose molecules present not only on the surface of your epithelial cells, but also in the urine. As they latch on to the mannose in your urine, they are easily expelled through your urine. To help flush the bacteria out, be sure to drink plenty of clean, pure water to encourage plentiful urination. To alleviate the burning sensation, dissolve 1 teaspoon of baking soda in 8 ounces of water and drink the whole glass first thing in the morning. Its alkaline nature can help neutralize or lessen the acidity of your urine, thereby making urination less uncomfortable. Pay Attention to Symptoms of Kidney Infection and Sepsis While D-mannose has a track record of working quickly and effectively in most cases, with the advent of drug-resistant bacteria, be sure to take any UTI seriously and watch for signs and symptoms of kidney infection and/or sepsis, both of which will require medical attention. Kidney infections can cause permanent kidney damage and kidney failure if not promptly resolved, or can spread to your bloodstream, leading to sepsis (blood poisoning). One-quarter of sepsis cases are in fact related to UTIs. In addition to the classic UTI symptoms — which include burning with urination, frequent urge to urinate, lower abdominal pain, cloudy or bloody urine — symptoms of kidney infection can include: Fever Back, side (flank) or groin pain Abdominal pain Constant thirst Signs of sepsis, which can quickly become lethal if left untreated, include the following: Fever; chills Shortness of breath; rapid breathing Increased heart rate Diarrhea Vomiting Rash Pain Disorientation; confusion If you have any of these symptoms, get immediate medical help and let them know you could potentially have sepsis. If it’s after hours, go to the emergency room. Again, be sure to inform the staff you may have sepsis, as time is of the essence when it comes to treatment. If that fails to incite a rapid response on their part, be assertive and insist on quick action, which would ideally include a combination of intravenous (IV) vitamin C, thiamine (vitamin B1) and hydrocortisone (a steroid). This treatment was developed by Dr. Paul Marik, chief of pulmonary and critical care medicine at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital in East Virginia, and has become the standard of care in that facility. Giving septic patients this simple IV cocktail for two days has been shown to reduce mortality nearly fivefold, from 40 percent to 8.5 percent. Best Podiatry and Chiropody Treatment | Bucks Foot Clinic
It is important to understand that the podiatrist is a highly qualified professional with special expertise in caring for all conditions affecting the foot and lower limb.
HCPC registration identifies those who adhere to guidelines on minimum standards of practice. It is also a prerequisite for employment within the NHS. Members are selected at random every two years for audit and must sign a declaration of competence to work in the profession, as well as participation in continuing professional development. These guidelines are there to protect you. The register was first opened in 2003. It is possible for members of the public to look up whether or not their chosen podiatrist is registered with this body (www.hcp-U.K.org/check/).
Under these guidelines podiatrists are expected to meet criteria on how they work.
Examples include:
*How instruments should be sterilised scrubbed to remove debris, ultrasonic cleaning to remove smaller particles and then vacuum sterilised where they are packed in pouches for single use. Some of the instruments/tools are single-use – disposable (files and blades): Waste disposal sharps are initially placed in yellow bins and clinical waste is bagged for removal by specialist contractors for incineration. Paper waste and confidential material is professionally shredded by contractors.
*The type of flooring Continuous with no joins to reduce cross-infection and improve the potential for sanitising.
*Professional conduct The ability to safely perform tasks, communicate efficiently with the patient, Carter’s and other professionals.
Podiatrist may belong to a professional body CoP (formally SOCAP) Access to a consultation with a podiatrist may be through the NHS via a GP or self-referral into the private sector.
All podiatrists will be able to advise and treat a wide number of foot pathologies from routine nail care, corns and callus to infections, footwear and preventative care.
Podiatrists hold a BSc Hons in podiatry, usually, a three-year full-time course incorporating clinical learning, placements, and lectures.
Further training and qualifications may lead to Podiatric surgeon status or the ability to prescribe medication relevant to the care of the foot.
Specialisms may include: biomechanics, sports medicine, cosmetic, nail surgery Generalists may treat many of these conditions in a broad sense before referral to colleagues who specialise.

Wear A Mask But Ditch the Maskne (Mask Acne)
You’re diligent about wearing your mask during errands, work, and play to protect yourself and others from COVID-19, but that diligence has come with a price: You’re breaking out around your nose, mouth, and chin.
“Maskne” — or mask-induced acne — isn’t a new thing. At least, not for medical professionals. Women and men who wear masks for their jobs have been battling this type of contact acne for decades. Healthcare workers on the frontline of the pandemic have reported multiple skin issues related to their constant use of masks, shields, and gloves.
The good news is, unlike the novel coronavirus, we know a lot about maskne, including why you get it and how to prevent it. Our expert dermatologists here at Laser Skin Surgery Center of New York, located in Manhattan and Southampton, believe you should have beautiful skin that you feel good in, no matter what the situation is outside. If you’re battling maskne while you’re shielding yourself from coronavirus, here’s what you need to know to keep your skin clear while staying safe.
Masks = Friction
If you’ve ever played sports that required protective gear, you might already have experience with contact acne. When a piece of equipment (or a mask) rubs against your skin for a long time, the friction can cause enough irritation to trigger a breakout of acne.
Add moistness caused by sweat or, in the case of masks, exhalations, and you have a perfect environment to grow the types of bacteria that feast on the oils and dead skin in your pores. Next step: inflammation and a breakout. The friction and irritation from a mask could also trigger a flare of rosacea or eczema.
Masks = Mouth Underwear
You change your underwear daily and wash it before re-wearing. Use the same level of hygiene for your mask. If you have to wear a mask all day for your job, you might consider changing your mask at least once or twice a day.
Underwear’s a good analogy when thinking of fabrics, too. While an N95 mask gives you the most protection, they aren’t necessary or appropriate for consumer wear.
The best non-medical masks utilize natural, breathable fabrics, such as cotton and silk, rather than thin layers of synthetic fabrics. Thinking about a neck gaiter? Think again. The Washington Post reported that they’re worse for protecting others than no mask at all because they break respiratory droplets into smaller particles. An ideal mask would consist of three layers of natural fabric that covers your mouth area and nose completely.
Be gentle with your skin
Now’s the time for a more gentle skincare routine. Gently clean your skin no more than twice per day with a non-irritating, non-comedogenic cleanser that’s formulated for your skin type. Ask your dermatologist to make a recommendation if you’re not sure which cleanser is best for you.
Wear a light moisturizer
You might guess that wearing heavy skin products under your mask increases your chance of a breakout. You guessed right. Avoid heavy make-up or greasy lotions, which trap moisture and increase the risk of irritation or a breakout.
But wearing a light moisturizer or sunscreen can help reduce friction and also protect your skin. Our dermatologists recommend medical-grade skincare based on your unique skin type and needs. We offer top brands, including EltaMD, SkinMedica, and Alastin.
One of the benefits of wearing a mask is that it intensifies the delivery of whatever skincare you’re wearing. So you get more hydration from a light moisturizer than you otherwise would. That’s also a reason to skip intense skin treatments, such as retinoids and retinol, on your lower face. The enclosed environment of the mask could make these ingredients too irritating.
Don’t forget the sunscreen
Although sunscreen is always important, whether we’re in the midst of a pandemic or not, you really don’t want to neglect to protect your skin while you’re outside wearing a mask. The fabric acts as a sun shield, which could mean that you’d be left with a suntanned upper face and paler lower face. Not a look you’d like to sport indoors, mask off.
Treat your maskne
Just because your lower face isn’t public right now, doesn’t mean you have to tolerate pimples, cystic acne, rosacea, or irritation. Our team complies with the CDC’s COVID-19 protocols to ensure your safety when you come in for an office visit. If you have maskne, our dermatologists will examine your skin and recommend therapies, such as topical or oral medications and in-office treatments.
If left untreated, acne can leave scars. Our physicians use a wide variety of lasers and devices to treat acne scars. You can expect to see some improvement immediately after a laser treatment, but most patients require more than one session to achieve the optimal outcome.
