We had the opportunity to sit down with LA based multi-instrumental musician Naia Izumi and discussed his creative process, what it means to Be An Original and much more. Enjoy!

What’s the creative process like for you?

I beatbox a nice little rhythm, line up a melody over that, toss it around in my head until I find a chorus, go back to my guitar and custom build chords and countermelodies around that. And just build up.

If you could get dinner with anyone, from any time, who would it be and why?

Cardi B ... she fine and funny as hell. I would just like to have her as a homie in general.

What does it mean to Be An Original?

Understanding that very few people are going to understand you, or why you do things. While being sure to be patient with your self and all you come in contact with,while always following your heart and working hard for what you want.

If you could do a song with one person right now, who would it be?

Jorja Smith ... that voice <3

Outside of what you do now, what would be your dream job?

I would love to make bespoke suits. I grew up tailoring and making some of my own clothes because my family was poor. I love the sense of dignity you get when you put on a good suit that fits just you.

What do you do to unwind and relax when things get stressful?

I Go for a walk and force my self look at random things, stress always comes from not being physically present enough.

Who would you want to play you in a movie?

Daniel Cesar.
