This is my depiction of RÉRIR, also known as the Rächer of Solnari—one of the Five Sinners of Khaenri’ah mentioned in the Archon Quest "Bedtime Story."

The name Rérir comes from Germanic myth, where he is known as a mighty ruler who avenges his murdered father and becomes the ancestor of the legendary Völsung bloodline—a clan of tragic heroes and cursed legacies.

His title, "Rächer of Solnari," may translate to Avenger of the Sun-Corpse—a poetic nod to:

Sól (the Norse sun goddess)

Narfi, son of Loki, who may symbolize death or decay.

Symbolism in the Art:

Sword Upright: Rérir holds his blade like a gravestone—a symbol of justice turned to penance. The sword is massive, sacred, and unmoving, as though weighing the sins of an entire kingdom.

Facing Left (Past): He gazes back—not to fight fate like Surtalogi—but to mourn what was lost. The leftward gaze invokes remembrance, regret, and the passage of time.

Freckled, Scarred Face: A weathered man whose beauty lies in grief and survival. Every line tells of battles fought, oaths broken, and hopes extinguished.

Sunlike Halo + Sword Lightburst: “Solnari” may mean sun-corpse—and so Rérir is framed in dying light.

Armor Grid Motif: Like Surtalogi, his armor is patterned with structured alchemical geometry, marking him as a product of Khaenri’ah’s elite warriors.

Ares and Hephaestus Dinnertime

After a day of tinkering for Hephaestus, he realizes the sun is setting when his automatons start buzzing, flying around to close curtains and turn on lights. It's then he realizes he hasn't eaten since morning.

His Repair shop never gets too busy in these country crossroads, but he gets lost in his ideas and projects. And after sitting for so long, his legs ache. One golden automaton chirps and brings his cane. It's still a good day for his limbs. After stretching and encouraging blood flow to return, Hephaestus can tolerate using just the cane for balance.

The moment he opens his workshop door, he's blasted with aromas of earthy flavors. His stomach delights in reminding him that it is empty. Being deities meant they did not need food in the same way, but their mortal forms craved it just the same.

Still Hephaestus frowned.

It meant Ares was in the kitchen.

Hephastus lumbered through the hall to the kitchen, wrinkling his nose as he entered. Ares hadn't burnt anything in centuries, but he had a heavy hand with spices. Hephastus resigned himself to a large meal. Ares hadn't done more than reheat leftovers or takeout in months. They were either finally finished with those, or Ares was in a mood.

A shrill whistle announced an incoming call to Ares's phone. Seemlessly he answered it and just said, "No," before hanging up. The whistle started again. Ares scowled and hung up without answering.

Definitely in a mood.

Hephaestus took the opportunity to dip a spoon into the tomato sauce for a taste. It wasn't bad, just not what he was in the mood for. "Too much garlic." He turned away to see what alternatives hid in the refridgerator.

Ares grumbled over the pot. The only clear words were "No such thing." Ares did open the oven to reveal roasted squash. This caught Hephaestus's attention. "This is for tonight. The sauce is not for you. Now, steak or pork?"

Hephaestus had to laugh. "You made both, didn't you."

"Couldn't decide. Didn't see you down here making dinner either." Ares eyed the multi-armed flying automatons. "Set the table. It's almost done." Millennia had a way of changing the world. Ares fell in line and changed right along with it. Unlike most of their family.

Writing Prompt: Ares the himbo

Aphrodite is talking to Ares. "Y'know, Persephone gives Hades flowers everyday. I wish you'd do that." The next day, Ares goes to the Underworld and gives Hades flowers. "Yeah, I'm not really sure why Aphrodite wanted me to do this, but here you go."

The Hellish realm fell quiet as the sound of a sword being dragged across the floor echoed throughout.

Hades sighed. His nephew always instinctively made his presence known. As the darkened figure reached close, Hades cocked his brow at a familiar scent reaching his nose. ...Persephone?

That's when his face was shoved with flowers, big and beautiful of all kinds. Ares had brought him flowers of every species from all over the world.

The scent had brought in the sensitive spring Goddess as well, who perked her head out the large window above Hades' throne.

"Ares, explain yourself at once." Hades' voice boomed. Perhaps the only creatures that didn't tremble at this very moment in all of his kingdoms were his beautiful wife and moronic nephew. Persephone giggled.

"This is for you, uncle. I present you with flowers that wish to match your wife's beauty. Please accept my gift." He bowed.

"How sweet of you, Ares.' Persephone was certainly enjoying herself. 'My dear, won't you accept his declaration of love?"

"I refuse to take flowers from anyone but the queen of the Underworld. If you wish, gift them to your aunt."

"But- my love asked me to do this! I shall not return till you accept this, uncle." Ares was an adamant knucklehead, so his family knew to inquire further.

"Well, Persephone gives you flowers every day, she wished I'd do the same." The laughter that echoed throughout the darkened world almost made it seem like the divinity of the heavens. Persephone's giggles soothed the ears of the suffering and terrified them after the thunderous laughter of the King of the Underworld followed.

"Why must you laugh at a lover's plight? I am doing what she asks for, is that wrong?" He asked Kore, as she wiped the tears of laughter from her eyes.

"Oh my boy, you have much to learn! Hera would be in tears to hear about this!" Persephone wiped a tear and rushed to find his mother.

"Well lad, let me teach you the art of wooing the fairer sex..." Hades started, after taking away the flowers from his hand and placing them on his lap, finally accepting the innocent gift. “Lesson one, Ares: know which goddess you're trying to impress before raiding the gardens of the Earth.”

Ares sat beneath, sitting on one knee, and listened carefully as somewhere above the Goddess of Love sat expectantly, with cheeks flushed; clutching a beautiful sharp dagger that had been gifted to her by her beloved the day before.

They say you go up the gravel road, through the trees that succumbed to the black plague. Long has it been this way, the locals say, generations back, when the first elders arrived in these mountains.

They were cruel and demanded sacrifices, first in the form of herbs and local meat. Then their satisfaction was greater with a different kind of meat.

When the locals didn't comply with their wishes, they unleashed monsters upon them. And the monsters would drag people into the darkness of the mountains.

There are no gods here, only monsters.

Original world (long) lore dump!

My first visualisation of the place where souls go after death, before they are ready to be brought into the underworld by the Boatman inspired by the Greek myth of Charon. Most souls who came before the Psychopomp's (inspired by Thanatos) revival have taken residence and formed a community of sorts who stays and helps the regretful souls who wander along the Liminal Pathways move on.

The Liminal Paths where souls wander through. Those who are troubled by unresolved issues easily get lost in the infinitely winding path, while the residents who have long since come to terms with their circumstances will take a leisurely stroll around the paths, never getting lost as their minds stay clear. Sometimes residents will meet lost souls trapped in the paths and help guide them through their obstacles.

These are inspired by liminal spaces, which are places where one is not supposed to stay at for too long like shopping malls, corridors, staircases, swimming pools, etc. Since this is the Border where souls await the boatman to take them into the underworld, I thought it would be fitting to represent that through liminal spaces as most souls are not meant to reside there, but to move on to their next destination.

Boats of Leisure and a Raft, perfect for souls to go sightseeing. Boat tours are great as they allow a clear view of the ever-shifting Planes of Liminality and the never ending Paths, allowing the viewers to never truly become bored of its sights. Soft yellow flowers seem to follow these water vehicles, but also be generated by the water ripples, creating a magical trail of flowers. More flowers bloom when the Boatman is near, due to his abilities relating to life.

A Giant Blue Dragon swims in these waters. Fear not, it is friendly and loves the flowers.

The Performers are people who go to the Border to entertain the souls there. They can come from both the Outside and Underworld, they are usually brought in by the Boatman or Psychopomp through an exchange program created by the World. Performances can be anything which is visual (magic, dance, song, etc.) or can entertain such as comedy skits or plays (souls can express emotion, and if they laugh, you'll know).

The Keeper is one who cares for all things living in the Border. They are easily recognised by their flaming robes and calming energy as they attend to their tasks of feeding the fishes, keeping the water temperature suitable for the Blue Dragon, checking up on their friend under the land, among other things. They can use his fishing rod to move the water around, creating flowers for the creatures to feed on. They have quite the sense of humour once you get to know them. Ask about their story and maybe you'll know some trivia about the World's history.

The World is here to greet some old friends of theirs. Seems like some older friends may be due for a visit soon.

The Psychopomp (the grey one with wings) is bringing souls over to the Boatman for transport into the Underworld. The Boatman (the blue one with swirls) brings life wherever he goes, and has a title corresponding with that aspect. The boats can phase through solid things and move through the water without much resistance.
