But I love how, for the Fontaine Archon quest; the Traveller is all set to mind their business and bother Furina for answers before they leave, and they only get involved on the basis of rep.

Traveller and paimon are, at least from the point they first get attacked at the Fountain of Lucine, only involved because they can't let a cheap shot slide.

In Mondstat they're driven by a sense of on the spot duty and curiosity.

In Liyue they're forced into clearing their name and inadvertently uncovering an insane plot.

In Sumeru, genuine concern for Nahida and the people they meet drive them to protective action against injustice against new loved ones.

But in Fontaine?

Lumine: "if you're takin' a shot at the king, you bet not miss"

WORLD SEED

Is this project I started 2-3 years ago that was supposed to just be a 3.5e DnD module so a group of friends and I could play a game set in the soul eater universe. But... No version of DnD could really encapsulate roleplaying in soul eater, much less the combat. So since I've been fucking around with roleplaying and informally teaching myself game design for most of my mortal life, I swan dove into the rabbit hole.

It's intended to be for tabletop RPGs, what "RPG maker" is to video RPGs (but hopefully less of a hassle to actually edit where necessary (⁠´⁠ ⁠.⁠ ⁠.̫⁠ ⁠.⁠ ⁠`⁠)).

And I had Soul Eater, Soul Eater NOT, Kill La Kill, Okami-san and her 7 companions, & Sgt. frog, and Kingdom hearts, in mind when I built it, lateral and "technical" solutions are intentionally built in like you'd expect from any tabletop RPG.

It's gameplay design heritage pulls mostly from trading card games like Yu-Gi-Oh, Duel masters, and MTG (the ancient game not the loud idiot). So it almost became a deck builder, but I don't hate myself that much.

I'm just about done with the base system, so I'm finally working on the module to make soul eater playable right now ✨

Got this idea yesterday: a tabletop RPG that emulates the action of early YuGiOh when the card game was already established but it didn't seem to have any clear rules yet meaning that it almost seemed to play like a weird card-based Calvinball. Your usual "your flying castle is obscuring your monsters so I'm going to put my turtle in a cannon and shoot it at your castle's flotation disc so it falls on your monsters and they die" but in TTRPG form.

But it'd probably be more like a game you can lay on top of any other game, with rules to facilitate the above type of play while playing a completely different type of game. So you'd be playing Chess with your friend and go "not so fast: since my king is next to a pawn my king is going to grant that pawn a title, knighting them. Then I shall put my bishop in horse mode, attaching them to the knight. This allows my bishop to ride right into the middle of your units, converting them all to Christianity. It's your move."

LiEat's fun, so we're gonna play more but it seems like the trio of games is... Way shorter than I imagined. Not a bad thing, they clearly know exactly what it is they want to do and are doing it. Though I've got some questions about the world building 🤔

Anyway, we might break LiEat up with finishing Moonlighter (seeing as I apparently forgot all about it) or maybe we could try another small horror title 🤔 we'll see ✨

I wanted to beat it when I found out it was real, so we're definitely pulling it off as 2B before we put the game to bed forever 🖤

I wish moonlighter had a prequel, so we could see it's concepts more fully realized. I don't even care about the story, I just want better moment to moment gameplay in the shop.

I want to see Rynoka come to life and actually build up an intimate relationship with it, not ironman the half hearted attempt at the aesthetics of a lively town because I feel bad about being critical of an indie game I bought like 4 years ago or something when I was still made of meat.

I'm sad that'll probably never happen.

Anyway, we're gonna play NieR this Wednesday & Thursday afternoon, and prolly most of the weekend.

If the void lets me go free tomorrow, we'll play moonlighter ✨🖤

I think one of the few last steps for World Seed on its own is translating the metric system into a 0-99 scale so people don't have to do math at the table to figure out if they can push furniture around 🤔

The androids all pop out as adults it seems like, inexperienced or no. But the machine life forms can be kids 🤔

I really wonder how their consciousness works.

Considering that 9S starts out by saying they're simply regurgitating data from the old world they've collected, does that mean that their personalities are formed out of various composites of random bits of human data combined with their alien artificial intelligence?

1 does that make them children of humanity and aliens, as a sort of unwilling love child? Or more specifically, is that what Adam and Eve must be? Is that why there's so much baby Christ and general birth imagery surrounding the machines? Or is this incidental?

2 can the machine's personalities grow the same way an android or human's can?For example the sisters in Pascal's village, and the child & mother in the same place; will they always be kids and moms? Or do they choose their social roles/genders intentionally, and play out their parts for their own satisfaction? Pascal's words suggest that their personalities are as innate and unchoosable as a human's from the way he talks about kids, but the "weird" machine you meet in the second run suggests that the machines might exist with more intention than that 🤔

Are they all autistic?
