So finally... finally... Aeon Dream Studios made a Twitter post, announcing their hiatus. 

“Fantastic!” I thought. “They finally linked the blog post!” Curious, though, that it came on the tail end of Egle (aka Stormvalkyrie) quitting, citing mental health issues.

And then I saw that the blog post was not... the original. As you can see from my photos, the original hiatus post was considerably longer, and now... it is gone. Replaced by this one, where Ajané (aka Xel) is... what? Throwing yet another one of her former team members under the proverbial bus.

This is not the first time she’s done this. Her blog posts and personal Twitter - not to mention the TTEOTS account she also runs - are rife with blame-shifting.

This is incredibly disappointing. It is, in fact, highly unprofessional.

She has shown time and time again through her reactions to former fans that she is incapable of taking criticism, and in fact seems to believe that she cannot possibly be to blame. Instead it is Gess, the third original founder and the original artist. Or now perhaps it is Egle, another founder and lead writer.

It can’t possibly be that Ajané decided to put TTEOTS ahead of her obligations to Kickstarter backers for Mystic Destinies (now more than a year behind schedule). Or that she chose to go ahead with it using the likenesses of members of BTS - without waiting for permission from their agency, BigHit. 

The ensuing legal issue because what was originally supposed to be a free game suddenly had paywalls - and suddenly meant BigHit had huge legal cause to issue a cease and desist - also most certainly isn’t her fault.

Except it is.

Look. I was a backer for Mystic Destinies Deluxe, and Echoes after that. I was a huge fan of Serendipity of Aeons. I told friends about it, I pointed out the gorgeous art, and the fact that - while it had some issues writing-wise - it was a pretty solid first game, and worth looking at. Worth following.

Not any more. The things that made ADS a company worth backing have been run out, run ragged, and are suffering mental health issues because of it, and I’m pretty sure I know the cause.

Changing the hiatus announcement - the original of which was never posted anywhere but the blog - to mentioning Egle’s leaving, and then - and only then - posting it to Twitter for all to see... that is manipulation, pure and simple. It is disgusting, emotional manipulation designed to encourage empathy for her.

She doesn’t care about the fans, she only cares about how much money people are willing to give her.

Well, she’s not getting any more of mine.

Mystic Destinies: Serendipity of Aeons - Hikaru’s Route

NO SPOILERS IN THIS REVIEW. (The pictures don’t give anything away spoilery)

Holy Hell !!! Wow. This route was amazing, and super, super Meta.

I loved it so much, no wonder they split it into 2 parts. Amazing.

I'm quite sad to be leaving this world behind for a bit, but Roll on the sequel Mystic Destinies Echoes, where you romance the admittedly gorgeous villains of SOA. I will definitely be playing it! Can’t Wait.

Mystic Destinies: Serendipity of Aeons - Hikaru Kazama (Main Story) Review.

Unable to pick a tutor to help with her new powers, Tsubasa chooses the most knowledgeable out of the group the professor -- Hikaru Kazama.

However, they don’t really get along and things just gets worst when they are attacked by a goddess, Tsuneka, that seems to hold a vendetta against Hikaru.

Now, Tsubasa has to work through various timelines in order to put Hikaru back together. Though, she might learn more about the mysterious professor and his connection to Shizuka -- how will she be able to handle all that and her growing emotions? 

★ ☆ ✰ Rating: 9/10

Tsubasa is usually shown as logical and following everything within reason, a slightly different side of her is shown here. She is scared of her new powers and what has happened to Hikaru, but she keeps moving forward to save him because he saved her. Tsubasa feels a lot of confusion over her personal feelings in regards to Shizuka, but she tries her best to better understand the woman that will one day be her mother and the connection she has to Hikaru. Through all her training, she takes everything with stride and while she does complain here and there, it seems that there is barrier between teacher and student that cause a hostile tension early on. However, as she gets to know him, Tsubasa becomes very supportive of his actions and tries to ease his burden through everything that she has seen of him. She might get angry at times, but it is in response to the way Hikaru talks about himself and she is always there to remind him of all the good he has done for people. Yet, it takes her awhile to understand the type of person Hikaru really is. 

Hikaru Kazama is the enigmatic professor that can’t seem to get along well with Tsubasa, though there might be rumors about him being a womanizer he always seems to have a sour look on his face when she is near. From the beginning, Hikaru is shown to be knowledgeable in what he is teaching Tsubasa, though he doesn’t seem to like spending the extra time teaching. However, he does his best to protect when they are attacked by Tsuneka. From that point on, Hikaru slowly lets go of his defenses and shown to be a person that deeply cares about helping others, though that has left him with a deep guilt of his past failures. He cares deeply about things and was very idealistic about what he could to help, though his powers sometimes got in the ways of things. At the same time, Hikaru lives in two world due to the type of powers he has and seems to have a rather lonesome air to him, even though he appreciates everything that has been given to him. However, the most shocking thing about his past might be his connection to Shizuka.      

As stated beforehand, Tsubasa ends up choosing Hikaru to teach her how to control her new powers, though neither of them seem to really like the arrangements made. There is a tension between and seem hostile towards each other until they are attacked by Tsuneka -- the weaver of time-- who seems to hold a grudge against Hikaru. It is now up to Tsubasa with the help of the God of Chaos and Hikaru’s mother to gain the missing pieces of his soul and bring him back to the world of the living. Through this journey, she sees very different sides to the distant professor that she knows, but the most shocking thing is how he knows Shizuka. How will Tsubasa handle meeting the woman that will become her mother one day? Will she be able to save Hikaru in the end, or fall to a similar fate?

First off, I want to say that this is a great route to end the series off with there is good amount of background story to the main character’s powers, Shizuka, and a lot of other things that might have been left of in previous routes. It might be a bit unconventional, but Tsubasa and Hikaru do get to better know each other and see that there is more that whatever they first thought of the other. They are similar in various ways, but certain things needs to be pushed aside in order to for them to talk and actually understand where the other one is coming from, and the whole issues with his soul and time traveling did its part in that. Also, for a long time, it was questionable how Shizuka and Hikaru were connected and the story does a good job in explaining both sides. 

Throughout all these routes, Shizuka is a shadow that has been haunting Tsubasa and in this route she --at least a younger version of her-- shows who she once was. Tsubasa might not be given all the answers, but she gets a clearer background about Shizuka’s past and the curse, how long Shizuka has suffered, and how hard it might have been for her to actually go through it all. With all the drama and secrets going, Shizuka’s relationship with Hikaru is given a simple explanation and while he might feel differently and it reflects on how he treats Tsubasa early on, it never becomes the biggest issue of their blossoming relationship -- and I thank the writers for that!     

In terms of supporting characters, the rest of the MDSOA bachelors shine in their own routes timelines and how much they care about Hikaru and Tsubasa in their own ways. However, Shizuka shines when it comes to Tsubasa because through her support and their brief connection, Tsubasa is able to see the kind woman her mother once was and find closure in the issues that have been haunting for her since the beginning of the game. The God of Chaos also adds his funny moments here and there in how he interacts with both Hikaru and Tsubasa. 

Mystic Destinies has been such a good series and Hikaru’s route does tie up looses ends while leaving some things opened ended should it ever continue. A the same time, it doesn’t make it the overall “canon” route since it does explain towards the end of the route and overall Hikaru and Tsubasa make a pretty adorable couple! So, if you haven’t tried this route yet, I highly recommend you do and it you have never played MDSOA before I really hope you take the time to -- because it has wonderfully writing and a well-developed cast of characters and it has been a wonder going through all their journeys.

Mystic Destinies: Echoes Fiasco or how not to Kickstarter a project: UPDATE

As of Friday 18.01.2019 Aeon Dream Studios are on a long-time-in-the-making hiatus. Something that was proposed to them repeatedly over the last year (by many people, me one of them).

There’s so much that happened since the post I made in the end of October, but at the same time it feels frustratingly little.

As devs promised in their last Kickstarter update, they never showed up on the site again. The only source of information from them, up to this date, remains to be their official website and their twitter.

After October update ADS twitter produced lots of information on TTEOTS and, as it could be expected, not a word on Echoes. The closest we got to hear about it was a personal blog post created by ADS leader, Ajané, on 18.12.2018, who explained that she is no longer able to be productive due to one of BTS members’ injury.

Almost a week later we got an official ‘update’ were, to my frustration, more delays were announced. And while delays came to no one’s surprise, what came as an unpleasant shock were the attempts of Ajané to put it all on Echoes creative team. The newbies that she chose and appointed herself. The people with genuine interest in the project who wanted to help make it come to life and who now were thrown under the bus.

For every ‘update’ there was a commotion on steam forums, where you can check for more input of people other than me.

After the Christmas update devs twitter went seemingly quite. The only things posted were related to some troubles within the BTS (forgive me for not delving into that one as I am not a fan of the band). So nowhere on social media where fans notified that the studios finally went on the hiatus.

To me, this speaks of cowardice. Of her (yes, her, Ajané, as the one who’s in charge and, in my opinion, the one responsible for the whole mess) being afraid to face another backlash for her actions. Of her hoping that if she avoids and ignores the problems long enough, everyone will forget about them too.

Well, I, for one, sure am not gonna let it go that easy :D

I don’t want this be swept under the rug.

I know I am not the only one hurt and pissed off by this situation.

On the last post I made I was asked what do I want from ADS. I answered - I want acknowledgment. I still do. I may not get my money back. I certainly will not get the product I payed for - and it does not matter if the game will actually be released or not. But I don’t want for this to go unnoticed since it would mean ADS got off the hook - with backers money and zero regrets. And I despise the very thought of that. Just because they are indie devs does not mean we should close our eyes on their behavior.

So I, in turn, want to ask a question of my own. What can be done? I’m not asking for a witch hunt but I do want to spread the word. Mostly, on twitter, since it seems to be the only platform used by the studios to communicate with people.

I’ll be grateful for any input.

~PERSONALITY~ She is shy when she is placed in a new environment, but once she gets comfortable with those around her she talks a lot more especially when it is something she’s passionate about. She is actually a very affectionate person and will generally hand out hugs and other affectionate gestures once comfortable with friends. She is warm and friendly. She is quite sincere in what she says as she dislikes lying, equally she always strives to keep her promises always and not let her friends down. She is always willing to help and listen to her friends - she would do anything for them or a love interest.

Kimiko is conscientious about her study though she does have a bad habit of procrastinating, it doesn’t help that she’s a perfectionist which can cause her much frustration. She can be preoccupied and loses track of the time, which often means she’s late (that and her habit of sleeping through her alarm). She is compassionate and empathetic, always wanting to help others in any way she can, though this does mean at times she’s too selfless and too trusting. She is taken advantage of and can be too soft to say no. 

She is a pacifist for the most part and rarely argues but if something is important to her she will dig her heels in and speak out about it. More often it is relating to those important to her. At other times she can be apologetic even if she isn’t the one at fault because she doesn’t want confrontation. Can’t stay mad at people. At times though she can be irritable and lack patience if she’s had a trying day or is going through some rough things. Kimiko is a night owl, always stays up late but loves sleeping in and hates waking up early. She can be kind of dense especially when it comes to flirtation. If she does realise someone is flirting with her she’s probably going to blush and fumble. She is a romantic though.

A/N: Uploading this quick drabble from my phone, sorry for lack of formatting right now! I will fix it and add a banner when I get home.

“Hey, Cillian?” You called out, looking up from your book. You were lounging on the couch in your guest room at the Spring Castle, and you were entirely bored. You looked up and noticed that Cillian had been assigned to watch over you. It was probably an order by Miki, you thought. She noticed your affections for the knight.

“Yes, my Lady?” He said, standing at attention. You gestured for him to come over, and the knight walked over confused. “What is it that you need assistance with?”

You gestured for him to lean down closer, and he did, turning his blushing face perfectly away from you. You stood on your toes, planting a quick kiss on his cheek.

“That’s all,” you said, giggling silently at the flustered knight who stood back up and seemed to scramble a few steps back from you, “Thank you, Cillian~”

“O-of course, my Lady,” he stammered, saluting at attention. “I-I was informed to help you in any way-”

“What a cutie,” you said, cutting him off. You flopped back on the couch, picking up your book and going back to reading. “That’ll be all, thank you.”

Cillian stared at you for a moment before walking back to the door and standing guard again. He didn't say anything while you read, but his mind raced in confusion.

His cheek burned pleasantly for the rest of the day.

Mystic Destinies: Serendipity of Aeons - Takumi’s Route

Takumi’s route was great, Noir Detective mixed with badass ninja really sums it up. I love the route, It’s very different from the other 3 I have played so far, as as always the CG’s are extremely pretty. Love you Takumi.
