21 sentences for you anon! TW: medical, canonical child death, murder.
"Why can't you fix me?" Ravi asks on one of the occasions when the entire Pannikar coven crowds into his room and feels the whole room flinch.
"Blood moves like water but breathes like the earth. They are mixed, see," Meghna Aunty leans down, smelling like fresh buttery mysorepak, to the blood bag hooked on the IV sand, watches it drip down to the tube into his vein. "Which is why you're so stubborn鈥攂ecause you're made of the earth. But water, it is fluid and wild and tumultous, dangerous."
"That's why I can't make sandcastles?" Ravi asks, huddles tighter into the five scratchy linen blankets on top of him, wiggling his toes to stay in the blanket. When he had last gone to the beach and sunk into the chilled wet mud sagged into a sad pile within minutes.
"Like that. A mountain has no use for the sea. Do not trust it."
Twenty years later, he dives into the ocean. While he scrambles to not drown in the weight of the water, he jacks his shoulder. The water cuts him off from the world, clogs his nose and senses. Submerged under the water, he loses sense of the pier's floorboards of what's up and down and left and right. He flails and thrashes against the current, spotting two darker blobs and hauling them up, kicking his feet toward the sun.
In the end, there's a child's body on the bottom of the ocean and his killer kissing the ground. Seargent Grant slaps the cuffs on the father when he breaches the surface and drags himself to land. The car didn't go off the pier by accident, she tells him.
His parents drag him away while he drips water into the backseat of their car and falls apart. His father watches him through the rearview mirror, gripping the steering wheel with white-knuckle strength, The sea has no use for the mountains. You cannot beat its tides. Do not blame yourself for it failing you.
It seems dramatic; the whole coven is, but Ravi could have鈥攊f he had been on land鈥攏oticed the sagebrush curling in on itself in distaste and judgement at the father before the car swerved off the Santa Monica Pier.

Small Story 124 Shyamala's Shock
Small Story 124. *Shyamala's Shock*
* Ram was reading the newspaper when his wife, Ambujam, called from the kitchen, "You take the phone and find out who is calling me." Ram picked up the phone and found it was Shyamala on the other end. "Hey, why no calls from you?" Shyamala asked. Ram replied, "I鈥檓 Ram speaking. I鈥檒l pass the phone to her." "Ambujam When are you returning from the UK? It鈥檚 been over three years since we met. Shyamala replied How鈥檚 Desikan, my favorite boy? Sandhya always asks about him. Is he with you?" "Why don鈥檛 you visit us for dinner?" Ambujam suggested. Shyamala responded, "No, I鈥檒l come over for tea at 5 PM with your favorite Mysorepak." At 5 PM, Shyamala arrived and was greeted warmly by Ram and Ambujam. "You've gone down, Ambujam! Here, I bought this shirt for Desikan. Where is he?" Shyamala asked. Ambujam fell silent for a few seconds. Then, with a heavy heart, she said, "I lost my dear son last year." Shyamala was shocked. "How? What happened?" Ambujam explained, "He went with his colleague鈥檚 parents to a wedding in Udupi. On the way back, their car was hit by a heavy vehicle, and all three of them were killed. His colleague, Vasanthy, who was a good friend, promised over the phone that she would take care of us, as she too lost her parents. We moved from Chennai to Bengaluru last year to live with her. This house was built by her father. Even though we received a sizable compensation for Desikan鈥檚 death, it鈥檚 nothing compared to losing him." Shyamala was devastated. "My God, I never knew. I haven鈥檛 communicated with you in over 18 months, so I wasn鈥檛 aware. I鈥檓 so sorry, my dear friend," she said, hugging Ambujam. Shyamala Continued, "Sandhya wanted Desikan as her life partner once she settled down, and my husband Murali too. Ambujam whisphered ,But Desikan was firm in his decision not to marry. He loved me deeply, and since he was the only son, he chose to stay with me. Then, this tragic incident happened." Shyamala spoke softly, "When you came to Bengaluru, Last year.I immediately sent our address. I thought you were calling from Chennai." "I came yesterday from London to attend a wedding. I was planning to leave for Chennai tomorrow but never thought i will meet you here," Shyamala explained. Ambujam smiled. "You can stay here until you leave for London. It鈥檒l be good to have you with us." "I was planning to come only for you, to see you and Ram. But I鈥檓 missing my charming boy," Shyamala whispered. Ambujam reassured her, "Now, relax. Tonight, we鈥檒l go out for dinner. We can reminisce about our school days in Madurai, and later, our time in Palayamkottai, Tirunelveli. Go ahead and bring your luggage from the hotel. I鈥檒l join you soon." Both women left to bring the luggage. K.Ragavan 13-1-25

Small Story 92.
Small Story 92 Story of M.M.P. . Gopal arrived at Bengaluru Station, where he was warmly welcomed by his daughter-in-law, Swapna. "Hello, Dad! How are you? Was the journey comfortable? You left Tirunelveli 14 hours ago. Come, take it slowly," she said as she gently took his hand from the train's doorstep. Gopal carried only a big suitcase with him, the rest of his belongings had been sent through transport. It had been a year since his wife, Savitha, passed away due to severe complications from diabetes. Gopal had been living alone in Tirunelveli, his hometown, since his retirement from a leading pharmaceutical company in Mumbai. After his wife's death, his only son, Ram, a Program Manager at an IT company, and Swapna, his daughter-in-law, suggested that he move in with them. With no other option, Gopal agreed to come to Bengaluru and join them. After a comfortable drive through the city, Swapna brought Gopal to their house in Jayanagar, an independent house that Ram had built. The house had a huge garden, which was an added attraction. Swapna had always treated Gopal like her own father, and they shared a deep attachment. Ram and Swapna, however, had no children. Swapna, a dietician at a leading hospital, explained Gopal's daily routine: a morning walk, followed by some time in their mini library, and breakfast, which she would prepare in advance. Lunch was made by their North Indian cook, consisting of vegetables and rice. In the evening, around 5:30 p.m., both Ram and Swapna would come home. At first, Gopal was not happy with the cooler weather in Bengaluru, but over time, he got accustomed to the climate and the people. Swapna, being cautious about Gopal's health, especially after the loss of her mother-in-law, was very mindful of his sugar levels. She prescribed only one sweet treat for him each day, as Gopal was near the border of diabetes. Gopal, on the other hand, was very fond of sweets and often indulged in them excessively. However, Swapna made it clear that he could have only one sweet per day, and that too a different one each time. Gopal鈥檚 favorite sweet was Mysorepak, and Swapna designated Monday as Mysorepak day. Gopal eagerly awaited Mondays, counting the days for his beloved treat. Three months passed, and Gopal was not only maintaining his sugar levels but also enjoying his favorite sweets in moderation. He realized how well Swapna cared for him, treating him like both a father and a child with equal love and attention. He was grateful to his daughter-in-law and Ram for taking such good care of him in their beautiful, peaceful home. He also learned an important lesson during his time with them: contentment was the key to controlling everything, especially his desires and habits. Gopal had found peace, not only in his health but also in his life, thanks to the thoughtful planning and care of Swapna. K.Ragavan 29-11-24
