That new expansion, which is as of now a piece of the most recent beta adaptation, has disgraced TikTok and numerous different applications — that were getting to client information through the clipboard. Following this, TikTok has said that it has just presented a refreshed rendition of its application to the App Store.

Wyrd Sisters
Pratchett, 1988
Finished Sunday, January 4
Pratchett is a master storyteller and I’ll fight anyone about it. In Wyrd Sisters, all the usual humour and absurdities are present. What Pratchett does so well though, is weave a story about the power of language in history and memory, and he crafts a wonderful story about identity and ‘destiny’.
For some unknown and unfathomable reason, I have read all the Discworld (well the ones which I have read) out of order. I don’t think it’s taken away from my enjoyment of the stores though, and I always love a good cameo (like the librarian)!
Pratchett is also someone who I read sparingly because I love his work, and I don’t want to run out of it too soon.

City of Girls
Gilbert, 2019
Finished Saturday, February 7
I’ve never read any of Gilbert’s work before, yes, even despite of Eat Pray Love, being made into a film and all that. I’m not sure what I expected of this novel, but I remember being uncertain of whether I would actually enjoy it - but enjoy it, I did.
The reflective structure of the novel makes it read like a memoir and I thought the ending was tied up quite nicely. Vivian Morris was such an interesting protagonist, it was delightful to watch her navigate New York City, and grow and change.
The book is so long, and there were so many good parts, that I can’t list them all! The central themes of life, love, the passing of time, and friendship (amongst others) were delved into with a fair amount of detail.
I will definitely be reading more Gilbert in the future.

1917
Universal Pictures, 2019
Monday, January 13 2020
This was a beautiful and cleverly shot piece of film, and although I don’t really like war films this was pretty good. Upon reflection it was nice to see a war film which didn’t go on with the gratuitous violence. It reminded me of those Kenneth Slessor poems, about the waste and futility of war.
The quest trope is always a good one to get characters to move from relatively safe environments and put themselves into all manner of danger, and in this sense, 1917 achieved that. George Mackay and Dean-Charles Chapman were really engaging to watch and there were some really good sections of the film, which felt super discordant - which I love, I think you should never be too comfortable in the cinema.
At the end of the day though, I wouldn’t say that I loved this film, but I can certainly appreciate how it talks about war and the people who suffered through it. There’s a banality in evil, and that’s what war is, and this film does a good job capturing that banality. All these lives were wasted and for what.

Knives Out
Lionsgate, 2019
Tuesday, December 31
Great story, great cast, great twists. This film has it all. It’s an epic game of clue, and it was so fun to see how every character was linked, and how every single one of them had a motive.
There were so many little bits of malice in each of the characters, and they were so cleverly and humorously done. My favourite was when Richard talks about how Marta is more than just ‘the help’, she’s ‘part of the family’, then passes her a used plate. And when each of them tells Marta that she wasn’t invited to Thromby’s funeral because they were ‘outvoted’.
Daniel Craig’s super accent and affectations in this was mad. I don’t know what was going on there, but it was certainly entertaining.
There were so many great little things in this film, but the best thing of all (the best thing in any good whodunnit) were the twists. And wow, there were so many towards the end. I’d definitely watch a sequel!

The Princess Diarist
Fisher, 2016
Finished, Friday, April 10
Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia was a turning point in my childhood (or early teenage hood as it were). When I first saw Star Wars in the late 90s (yes, I was very late to the game), it had such an impact on my appreciation for storytelling and character. I loved it, and it started a lifelong appreciation for science fiction.
This ‘sort of’ memoir was an interesting read, and I guess it answered a lot of questions that I had as a young fangirl. Carrie writes with such a warm voice, and it feels like she’s having a conversation with your when you read this book.
She’s also such a humorous writer, I imagine it would be easy to lament her lot, but she writes with such a wry humour, that again, it’s like having a laugh with an old friend.
Hmm, perhaps it’s now time to find ‘Wishful Drinking’ and carry on the Carrie reading.

Little Women
Alcott, 1868
Finished Sunday, December 29
This novel is so wholesome! I loved all the girls! I can’t believe I’ve never read this, although I can see now why this is a classic. I like the way that it’s set up, with half set when the girls are growing up and the other half set when they’ve grown into their prime.
It was an interesting exploration into the context of Alcott’s writing, and I thought that there was good discourse about the purpose of art and literature between the authorial voice and Jo. Should art be didactic? Can it just be entertaining? What makes good art?

Jojo Rabbit
Fox Searchlight, 2019
Sunday, December 29
This was a super clever film. I loved it. I do agree with Waititi, that sometimes the best way to combat hate is with comedy. This felt like a mashup of Boy and Moonrise Kingdom. It was not as good as Boy (I love that film, and everyone should watch it poste haste), and it was much better than Moonrise Kingdom (I’m not a massive Wes Anderson fan).
I liked the treatment that Waititi gives to young people and families in wartime Germany. Yorki’s line at the end about just wanting to go home and hug his mother really adds another layer. It’s strange how cheerful the whole film is, there’s such a richness here. I would highly recommend.

Will my cat eat my eyeballs
Doughty, 2019
Finished, Tuesday, January 14
So first off, I guess it’s considered quite morbid to think about death (of yourself, loved ones, pet, other people, etc) and decay, but this was so interesting! Doughty creates such a friendly tone through the book, and the way that she explains things is so easy to follow (yes, I realise that this is a book for younger readers probably).
The questions raised were really interesting too. It’s funny because I am in contact with lots of young people in my work, and the one about eating popcorn just before you die did come up a few weeks back!
I also think, everyone is on some level afraid of death, but like anything, the more we know about it, the more myths we dispel, the more we will become accepting of it being a fact of life. I will say, that it did put me in a calmer frame of mind - not that I have ever been particularly panicked about death.
I would recommend this book to anyone who had even a passing interest in mortality. Although death can be a very solemn thing, Doughty also takes the time to find some humour within it all.

Little Women
Sony, 2019
Tuesday, January 7
I love this film! Gerwig does a great job at putting together all the source material (and wow there is so much, I didn’t realise until watching the film, now much was left out). The best part about it was that even though Jo was framing the story, all the sisters were well rounded. I loved all the characters - everyone did a great performance. There were so many strong emotions, just wow!
Gerwig added some really good stuff to the original. I love that Amy rejects Laurie at first, Jo’s speech about being lonely, her letter to Laurie, the spaces for Beth at the end, hot!Bhaer, and Amy telling Laurie that marriage is absolutely an economic proposition. So many good things! And the costuming! So beautiful! I also loved that the ending was ambiguous about whether Jo ended up marrying Bhaer.
I really enjoyed the treatment that the characters got in Gerwig’s adaptation. It would have been easy for her just to fit the sisters into just how they were described in the book, but she didn’t. She moved beyond that and showed that although each had their weaknesses, they were well rounded characters trying to find their way in the world.
The editing of the film into a non-linear timeline was really well done - although I can imagine that some viewers could be confused. I did think that there were enough differences that audiences could pick out which timeline was which. I can imagine myself rewatching this many times and forcing it upon others.

The Gentlemen
Miramax, 2020
Saturday, January 4
You are never unaware that you’re watching a Guy Ritchie film. They always have that distinctive style of his, and this was certainly no different. I had so much fun watching this film.
I went into to it not knowing anything about what the story was about and so whilst watching it, I got the double whammy experience of enjoying a really fun film and enjoying the way that Guy Ritchie makes a film.
There were so many good people in this and so many good bits! And so, so many threads. I think that was my favourite narrative device. And the bringing together of the threads - masterful. There were also heaps of great little easter eggs for GR fans.

Addams Family
MGM, 2019
Friday, December 13
This was a cute family film. Quite a sedate pace with some adult humour thrown in. I think it wasn’t quite sure of what it was, there was quite bit happening.

Beauty Queen of Leenane
STC, 2019
Wednesday, December 11
An Irish play! This was my first one, and wow, this was phenomenal in the psychological build up. This play was so gripping, and every moment just pulled you along that little more. There was so much good foreshadowing.
The first act was such a slow build, and you just get this sense of heightened uncomfortableness, and there were so many moments where the characters were almost painfully real.
And the conclusion was so chilling. I was super impressed.

Much Ado About Nothing
Bell Shakespeare, 2019
Saturday, November 23
Much Ado About Nothing is my favourite Shakespearean comedy, and Bell Shakespeare have done a good job. This production was quite fun. And as an added bonus, I got to convert someone to the joys of Shakespeare.
Who doesn’t like an enemies to lovers story? I also liked that Claudio was actually called out a bit more in this version. He’s the bit of the narrative that’s always bothered me the most - such an idiot!

Secret Life of Pets 2
Illumination 2019
Saturday, August 17
The sequel can never live up to the original, but that’s not to say that it can’t still be a fun film. Secret Life of Pets 2 was super cute. The characters seemed fairly true to brand.
It did a good job in showing some character development, exploring the inevitability of change, and looking into mental health.
My favourite character is still Gidget. She’s such a boss! I love that she’s so multidimensional, she’s this lovelorn fool for Max, she has her own storyline, she has no problems asking for help, and other characters respect her.
I would keep paying money to this franchise. It’s super cute!
