The Future
Time to establish what's going to happen from this point forwards.
The vast majority of you have been exceptionally patient this last year, and for that you have my deepest thanks. You've given me the time to not only write a book, but edit it, and send it off to literary agents, something I would have long given up on doing without the continued support of those who enjoy my writing.
Now that the book is off doing the rounds independently, it's time I got back to Myrk Mire.
Originally Myrk Mire was built in ChoiceScript, a scripting language created by the Choice of Games company. Choice of Games control what is done with their script, understandably, they own it. This does pose some restrictions. I can't, for example, release any paid material built using ChoiceScript unless it is directly through their publishing label. If I do publish under their label, I maintain IP or Intellectual Property Rights, however I also grant them the exclusive rights under perpetual license to publish the multiple choice game 'electronically'.
Source: Choice of Games.com
As you can see from the outline above, they do make exceptions for stories published in non-competing formats, and for sequels, prequels, and spin-offs. However, traditional publishing houses might require stricter control over IP, distribution, and exclusivity. It will only become more and more complicated as things progress, and being locked into a perpetual license agreement of any nature is not a decision to make lightly.
As some of you may be sensing from the tone of all this so far, I'm going to be moving Myrk Mire away from Choice of Games and ChoiceScript, and into a new medium/format.
After tinkering, and trialling with a few alternatives, I've decided to go with Renpy. Renpy, while largely used for visual novel style games and stories, provides a very workable framework for interactive fiction, and is an Open Source script, it isn't beholden to publishing contracts, licence cost, or exclusivity.
I'm not going to be diving into transferring Myrk Mire right away, it's a huge piece of writing, in an entirely different scripting language, and as previously stated, there are a lot of changes I want to implement with the cast. Instead, I'm creating a trial story: One Háḟest Day. My Patrons have been aware of all this for about a month or so, and have already seen some previews.
One Háḟest Day takes place in Aldmirham before the events of Myrk Mire, around the time the Main Character and the Wanderers first arrived in town. The reader will have the choice to follow one of the romanceable characters through a single day, with opportunities to explore their lives and relationships before the Main Character and Child come along. I hope it will provide a proving ground for the changes that previously caused debate, and an opportunity for people to try out the new format and interface.
My plan is to distribute One Háḟest Day through Itch.io, working with their early access framework and voluntary payments for such as soon as one of the character routes is ready to play from beginning to end, updating regularly with the other characters as they too are completed, and with additional features as required. Once the full game is complete, I will release a separate full build with a set minimum price that can be discussed with the community as we move forwards.
At the second, I'm aiming for a web hosted format and a desktop/laptop downloadable format, with phone compatibility to come later down the line once things are stable.
I will post production updates and info when I can to tumblr, though a lot of what I'm doing now is very python coding heavy, so perhaps not that interesting?
I've included some screenshots below of very early development, featuring a Character Log and Word Log that I hope will allow readers to more easily navigate the story. I'm toying with the idea of having a Mysteries Log as well that will keep track of snippets of information gleaned from each character's route, but that can be a tinkering feature for now.
Let me know your thoughts, concerns, or excitement, though do keep all messages objective and polite.

Notes: Session #0
Summary: Rogan Underbite travels to Waldstad, learns of the Aerfleet Plant, and breaks an invisible boundary.
The session starts in Gre'gel, in the workshop of Rogan Underbite (PC), a dwarven engineer and inventor renowned for experimenting with flying contraptions. In Rogan's company is Luca Myrk (NPC), a long-serving half-elven doctor of the Benfer Army currently stationed in Gre'gel due to the unrest and ambushes in the surrounding Gilpfel Mountains, and Wish (NPC), a tiefling engineer who has come halfway across the world to see Rogan.
Wish has only been around for a couple of days, having left her companions, Zia (PC) and Aaria (PC) at the Bardic College in Nordhafen. Luca, on the other hand, is a good friend of Rogan's. The two have worked together on multiple occasions to develop various tools for Luca's practice, especially in recent time as Luca prepares to leave the army, marry a doctor from Nordhafen (Aurora, PC), and settle down.
Tonight, Rogan is making plans for an expedition to Waldstad, a town – barely large enough to be called such – a few days' travel from Gre'gel. His research indicates there might be some natural resource there he might harvest in order to get his flying contraptions off the ground, so to speak. Wish offers to accompany him, and Luca has a few days off and decides to accompany them.
During her time in Gre'gel, Wish is staying with a wealthy patron, Lady Adelaide Merrill (NPC), and upon mentioning the expedition, the Lady expresses a wish to join them, as her family used to run some business in Waldstad and she should like to visit again.
In the morning, the party sets out.
In Waldstad, they take rooms at the Perlen Tavern. Rogan makes enquiries, and eventually finds his way to the Herbarium – an overgrown building with a few loose tiles, ivy, and a veritable jungle inside. Rogan takes the time to repair the loose tiles, and the proprietor, Maggie, a red-haired half-elven woman, emerges. She is happy for it to be repaired, as her landlord has made no move to repair any of the issues yet.
Rogan finishes with the tiles. Inside, Maggie offers tea as thanks. In return, he offers to make any other repairs. (In the morning, he fixes a leaky tap in the bathroom.) From Maggie, Rogan learns of a lily-like flower called an Aerfleet Plant. Supposedly, this plant can be used to create a substance that helps constructs fly. As far as Maggie is aware, it grows best north of the Flachwasser, the river that runs north of the woods encircling Waldstad. There is an old path through the woods in the north-western corner of the town, to where there used to be a bridge. Whether it's there still, she doesn't know.
Rogan spends the night with Maggie. In the morning, they express a mutual desire to see each other again, then Rogan leaves, gathers his travelling companions, and sets out to find the Flachwasser.
After an hour of trudging along a partially overgrown path through the Walden, they reach the slope down to the banks of the Flachwasser. It's 30 feet across, and the majority of the bridge seems to have either collapsed into the river or been scavenged. Rogan lays his foldable travel ladder across and, after some poking about, discovers an invisible wall running along the centre of the river.
The party is attacked by a spectral being and, despite their bests efforts, are consumed by it. Rogan is the last to be captured, and in his final moments his mind expands and reaches for anyone who might hear him: "If anyone can hear me, we need help. Some bullshit magic north of Waldstad. It's got Luca, Wish, Adelaide, and me. Come find us."
In the late morning of Nordhafen, five people hear the message: Niko Warren (PC), a homeless wizard; Aaria (PC), a travelling bard; Zia (PC), a travelling story collector; Aurora (PC), a doctor looking forward to her wedding; and Frederic (PC), a mercenary guard on his way to work.
There are no traces left of Rogan and his party, except a 2-foot crack in the invisible wall, right where the bridge ends.
STAT BLOCKS: Luca Myrk, Wish, Adelaide Merrill

Demihuman pantheons like the Morndinsamman and Yondalla's Children and so forth haven't changed their line-up for centuries.
Meanwhile the human Faerûnian pantheon seems to be doing something drastic every few centuries, I wonder if the longer lived humanoids (and their gods) find that annoying? Especially the ones who don't have much daily contact with human society.
"Yes, praise Myrk- Oh wait, their death god is called Kelemvor now, isn't it?"
"Actually Myrkul's back again."
"Seriously? OK, so praise My-"
"But Kelemvor's still god of the dead."
"What."

Minor Change to M
Minor change to get you all informed on concerning M.
Previously, the gender naming splits on M went like this:
Male - Marrin
Female - Marryn
Nonbinary - Marren
All of this was put in place before I really got to grips with how I was going to tackle names and language in the story.
Now that I do know a little bit more of what I'm actually doing, these names have had to undergo some changes:
Male - Marren
Female - Merrá
Nonbinary - Marrin
Sorry for the confusion.
Beyond names, M remains largely as they were, at least up to the point that you all got to get to know them.
If you want a guide on how these are pronounced, I recommend having a squint at Old English Pronunciation Guide.
Vowel sounds have shifted somewhat in the past 1000+ years (go figure), but not too much.
Dashed accents over letters means a longer sound, there's some debate on whether r's were rolled or not, so roll em if you can, don't worry if you can't, and for the true nerds among you, emphasis is on the first syllable.

Character; Anakin Solo Plot: Anakin Solo survived The mission to Myrk, enduring a six-month recovery process. His body is being strengthened, and organs are being replaced with cloned ones. His physical form parallels Starkiller after his first resurrection on the Empirical Station. Inspired by a what if video where he went through a coma and had forced visions of his life in the past, culminating in meeting ---- his namesake.
" I'm physically healthy. Stronger than I ever was before, the only reason I'm not on the front lines is because you have tried to stop me. I want to do my part."

Me again... sorry but you said you didn't want to do your assignment 👀
And I'm curious about your world building and thoughts. So I love that we can have a little girl I'm bias af tho cuz I have a little girl so I'm definitely gonna project alil.
I know some people aren't all in for the having a kid thing bt I love it, its different. I don't think I've played an if where we have a kid before. I've seen some where you kinda find a kid and raise them/take em under your wing because they were in a dire situation or had no one left. (Esper and abyssal) or where if we had a kid the kid was like 10ish (myrk mire) but not really where MC had a toddler that was bio to them. So it's unique.
What made you want to add that factor into the story? If it's okay to ask. ♥️
Don't apologize!! These questions are a delight to answer :D
Originally my main goal was to come up with something that the MC would kind of be forced to consider important - something they simply would not be able to give up unless it was pried out of their cold, dead, hands. I considered a pet of some sort, but with the things I was planning that just didn't make sense, and in any case everyone has different preferences, so I couldn't think of any way to make the pet important enough for the story. Then I considered maybe a close friend, or keeping Alix alive, but quickly realized that wouldn't work out lore-wise either.
Therefore, I figured a child would work best - even if you don't want a child (which I totally get, not everyone wants kids, me included), as the monarch and an only child MC would be expected to produce at least one heir with their political marriage partner, and even if you don't care for the kid at all (which is an option), they're important to the kingdom as your heir. There's just no way to willingly give up Luminosa regardless of whether or not you actually love her.

Send me a △ and ask a really invasive question aimed at my character | accepting !
cue a tiny sneer as myrk peers down at his uncle's human partner, the muscles in his jaw twitch from grinding his teeth behind a closed mouth. he isn't one to go out of his way to meet any of his family's partners. not now. not ever. however, it seems as though dusty has a knack of knowing someone may need her help on something. much like now. but he'd rather not indulge and answer her invasive question. -∞ / 10
" sorry, but i'm not one to share my personal life with someone i don't know. i'm sure there is someone else who would rather need your help than me. " he quips monotonously, not entirely keen on telling her what's ailing his mind. though, his attention did trail off when he sees tor making her way towards her end of the bar. a definitive frown begins to take shape on his lips. feeling a headache coming along, myrk sighs and reaches up to pinch the bridge of his nose, being mindful of his sunglasses, and taking a small breather before, once again, peers down at dusty with a grimace of a smile.
" not going to judge, huh? " maybe, just maybe, he'll give her a chance and indulge her blasted pestering. " i guess, well, i'm dealing with relationship problems. " he shrugs languidly, stuffing one hand in his pocket.
↳ @theknifeinyou asked : △ + Come on, tell me about what's got you all over the place, I promise, I'm not going to judge you and maybe I can even help you! (dusty to myrkos)
