The Hummingbird Feeder Poem

It started with a hummingbird feeder.

I found it in the summer aisle of a dollar tree

Floating in a sea of pineapple and flamingo decor.

It was a bright hibiscus red along the top and bottom

And had little yellow flowers along the base.

I took it home with me that day.

I don’t exactly remember why I did.

I hung it by the front door of my house.

Filling it wasn’t hard in the beginning —

It was just sugar water after all.

Then it was time to wait patiently by the door

In quiet anticipation hoping to catch

Even a simple fleeting glance of a visitor.

The wait was agonizing.

The first time I saw a hummingbird was a rush —

A moment punctuated by a gasp, and left me waiting

With a pounding heart and silent awe by the door.

Waiting, waiting for more wondrous moments

That brought such a simple and long awaited joy.

But those fleeting moments don’t last so long,

And joy is but a simple sip before it’s gone.

I don’t remember when it happened,

But I couldn’t bring myself to refill the feeder.

One day it felt like too much to mix the sugar water.

Too much effort for something I’d be too busy to notice.

Too much effort for something that now brought too little joy.

So the bright red feeder was forgotten,

And like many other things I cherished, tossed aside.

…

I found the hummingbird feeder the other day.

The once hibiscus red color had long since faded

And the pretty yellow flowers were dirtied with time.

It’s too much to do anything these days,

Too much effort for apathy.

Yet I pushed on to fill it back up again

And hang it by the front door once more.

Birthday: 5th of December 2001; barely 18 hahah

Zodiac: Sagittarius; dunno if I believe in zodiac signs but they’re really interesting to read about and myn is weirdly accurate

Height: 5’3; I really wish I was taller haha

Last song I listened to: Sunset glow by bigbang; such a feel good song I can’t-

Hobbies: I’m pretty lazy tbh but mainly watch netflix, write poetry, we are off school and I really want to start writing fanfic again but I have no ideas left in my head haha. Also dancing, reading, and of course listening to music

Favorite colour: VioLeT

Last movie I watched: Don’t judge me but it was Shrek last night at 1am. That’s such a good movie and I think you all need to watch it again... :D

Favourite book: I’m really loving ‘We Hunt the Flame’, it’s reallly intriguing. Also my all time favourite would be “Rebel of the Sands”, it’s really creative and there’s some romance too haha

Dream job: Hardest Q yet no doubt. I want to work in the UN or as a marketing agent, but I still have absolutely no idea. I love languages and hoping to study in Korea but then again I was thinking of studying european law in Holland so who knows where I’ll end up really...
