2•3•23 ~ To say I love my job is an understatement. To say I am blessed to have my job is also an understatement. God has blessed me far beyond what I could have asked or imagined. I get to do what I love, in an environment that I love, with people that I love every single day. Today was extra special because I got to spend the evening with these people at the Knoxville Christian School Winter Formal. Five years ago on this day, I got a tattoo. The tattoo is a semicolon on my left wrist. This tattoo is special to me on more than one level. When used in writing the semicolon represents a sentence that could have ended but the author chose not to. The sentence is my life and God is the author. My story isn’t over yet. Since getting this tattoo, it has become quite common because of what it represents. The semicolon tattoo shows support and encouragement to those who are struggling with depression, having suicidal thoughts, suffering addiction, and facing other mental health issues. Suicide is a topic that I do not take lightly. On June 30, 2000, I lost my father to suicide. That is part of my story. I am clinically diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, depression, and anxiety because of the role that loss played in my life. I can now say that I am no longer ashamed to say that I struggle with those issues. It’s a daily battle but with God, I don’t fight that battle alone. I want to reach out to anyone who is experiencing suicidal thoughts, depression, addiction, or other mental health issues and say I am here. If you need someone to talk to, I am here. If you just want someone to pray for you, I’m praying. Your story isn’t over yet and there is hope. There is a freedom from what you are experiencing that you never thought possible. I am here. I may not know exactly what you are going through but I can listen and I can tell you what God continues to bring me though and I can help show you that life is worth giving it your all.
