Tonight's lesson was Math\Numbers Mason is working on minute addition and Christian is working on number recognition, counting and matching. We tied it all together with a fun game they all could play a cool puzzle I found at target in dollar spot that helps to reinforce counting concepts. Christian had a hard time with his 3s and there were tears 😢 so we will continue to work in this area to build his confidence level. What does this Saturday night consist of? Listening to my son breathe freely for the first time in 3-4 days. No wheezing, whistling or panting for breath in between coughing and sneezing fits. Sleeping in peace, soundly. The other just creeps in and you don't notice how bad it actually is, even when you're awake several times during the night to monitor his breathing - and he "seems ok"...until the noises aren't there anymore. With Nate, the changes are so gradual that, until it gets super bad like today, you don't really notice the severity of the shortness of breath, because he's not panting yet or stomach breathing. And you think the coughing and sneezing will be helped by allergy meds. Until they're not and nothing changes and your concern is where is the best place to take him, and the closest, if his treatment doesn't work - since the rescue inhaler didn't work at all during the day. This is peace. This is contentment...when my son, who is completely wiped from such a rough day, wants nothing more than to rest his head on my sweater clad shoulder and hug my arm as he falls asleep. And I listen to his gentle breathing, albeit deep - because it's as if his lungs can't get enough oxygen, now that they're not starved for it. Single parenthood isn't easy. It's hard not having anyone to fall back on with your concerns, or just to be held and told that it's ok, and you're not a bad parent for not noticing sooner how bad it was getting, because it's been months since he's been this bad. But, to tell you the truth I'd much rather be here, holding on to my sleeping angel boy, than anywhere else or with anyone else on a Saturday night.
